Babes!! Never Break The Chain is a passion project I have been plotting (with the help of the ever talented @softanon) for some time. I took one look at Din and popped into her dms going "what if din djarin was a dinosaur wrangler". And the fic was born.

I love the song The Chain and figured why not be funny and play it off the readers job (geneticist). Of course I don't know shit about the science of genetics so it's been a bit of research for the descriptions on my part.

The relationship between Din and reader (nickname: bishop after the chess piece) is very much similar to Alan and Ellie. They are past lovers who had planned their whole future together in college. Until Din made a choice. Now they're coming back together - albeit very reluctantly - and maneuvering a world in which dinosaurs exist again.

Here's a small tiny snippet of chapter one:

“He put in the recommendation?” How was that possible? The last you heard from him was…the night before he left—the night that everything changed and life shifted entirely. “He’s…working for you?”

“Well not yet,” he replied, grasping for a small envelope in his bag. “He still has to go through the final stages of training, learning what his job will be, but when he asked if we’ve hired geneticists your name was the first one up.” He handed the dingy looking white paper off to you, a scrawled out name on the front clearly marking it as his handwriting. “He said to give that to you if I found you.”

The breath caught in your throat as you looked down, the name Bishop written across the front in pen. You knew that handwriting better than you knew your own, having seen it on small notes you found scattered across your shared apartment. Fuck it was nearly a decade ago and still…you felt your heart twist violently in your chest—the memory of him, so real that you swore you could touch it. He’d always been there in a way. At the back of your mind and for so long you figured you’d never encounter him again.

Given that his path led him across the oceans to a different country. While yours left you to remain right where you were. Living on the campus where you met him, teaching the same classes you took with him—connected to him even after he couldn’t promise you forever.

i know we all laugh (mostly fondly) about the paper-thin plots in porn that only exist to make the sex happen, but i was reading some old stargate fic over the weekend, and i really think we're sleeping on the paper-thin hurt/comfort plot that only exists to force the characters to FEEL THINGS.

like, is this scenario realistic? no. does it make any rational sense? no. does it provide a built-in excuse for a character to collapse, bloody and disoriented, into the arms of his beloved/friend/partner? obviously, that's the whole point of this exercise.

i love it. it's my favorite thing in the world.

The Ghost distribution system... He really is like a stray cat, or a bear that learns minivans have food in them, he just keeps coming back no matter how many times you try to send him on his way. It doesn't matter how it happens but any scrap of kindness and he just determines he's going to attach himself to you.

Maybe he offers you a hand moving your couch when he passes your place and hears you swearing. You offer him dinner and Ghost has never been the sort to turn down a free meal, so he sticks around. It's weird that he doesn't even pretend to refuse, just takes you up on it immediately and even offers to help cook. You send him home and he's... there again the next day, waiting on your doorstep with a box of pasta asking if you could do anything with it. He's going to come back, he's going to keep coming back.

Maybe it's from meeting you at a bar. He's the biggest guy you can grab when your ex walks in, and somehow he seems approachable despite... well, everything about him. Fake boyfriend for a few hours at the bar is one thing, having him show up the next day to fix your sink because you mentioned offhandedly that it was leaking the night before is another. Having him sit in your kitchen and peal an orange for you because you said you were hungry is really driving home that this guy isn't leaving.

Hell maybe it's just a one night stand that never seems to end. You wake up and Ghost has already made breakfast. The two of you sit at your little table and eat quietly, Ghost scrolling his phone while you eye him warily, trying to figure out his game. He asks what you want to do today and somehow you can't find the right way to ask when he's planning on going home. He just sort of moves in, you realize he's printed a key for himself while you're grabbing groceries. It's nice he offers to pay, but you don't know when having him around became your normal.

Ghost sees you, he wants you, you're his. He's not leaving, he'll come back. He knows that this house has food and warmth, he knows that families forget to tie their trash up off the ground. He's a man of instinct, and you are going to be his perfect match.

Hey fanfiction writers: If no one's ever told you this before, it's not just fanfiction.

It's something you spent hours, days, maybe even months on, pouring your heart out onto a page because you were so full of passion and thoughts about a story or characters, you felt like you were going to explode if you didn't get it out. Maybe you lost sleep because your mind was racing with ideas or you forgot to eat or drink water because you were so focused. Maybe your back aches from being hunched over for so long, unmoving. Maybe you even felt like you were going a little feral because you were so excited about what you were creating, or were frustrated when you got stuck. Either way, you put your heart, mind, soul, and body into making something.

It's okay to want people to read it, and it's okay if you're disappointed that they don't or it doesn't get as much of a reaction as you were hoping for. Humans are social creatures. Sure, we write for ourselves, but we also share because the joy of doing so is just as powerful as the joy of the process. Of having created something.

We all experience that joy and that disappointment, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

So it's okay. It's not just fanfiction.
