I read a Defenders collection once years ago, and I still remember the proto defenders story in the Sub-Mariner (if only because of the three characters). I haven't read it in ages, but I remember (rather vaguely, mind you) the time these three teamed up:

The Hulk, The Silver Surfer and Namor. Three outcasts hated by humanity, but who never deserve hate. These are three of Marvel's most tragic characters, and it's legitimately a shame these three didn't get much to do with each other after this. I could read about these three all day.

something about how max is the most imperfect hero not only in the overarching moral dilemma of do you stop bad things if it could lead to worse things but also little things like looking through dana's trash and or adding her name to the "was here" graffiti. even before the events of lis dropping chloe after the move. i feel like she is a perfect representation of how insecurity can make you selfish. she has to let go of that to be a better hero for arcadia.

New office

Jay stood nervously outside the journalist office, the early sun rising behind him in his hand he held his briefcase, the black leather material shining in the sun. Today was his first day on the job and he had with him what would hopefully be the biggest breakthrough in Peterson's case about his missing kids. He had been trying to get into the newspapers for weeks now but today was the day he just needed to get inside. So with a shaky step forward he started to make his way up the stone steps of the office pushing open the door, several people turning their heads in his direction, the women behind the desk raising an eyebrow. “Hello sir, who are you?”

Jay looked at her, almost panicked, “Jay Roth,” he said, trying to seem confident, straightening his tie and playing with the end of his jacket until it seemed like it was decently straight. He wanted to make a good first impression after all. The women's well manicured fingernails were now tapping against the keys of the computer eliciting a loud clacking noise. She smiled and stopped clicking on a certain name “you will be working with Miguel Esposito!” Jay nodded and started to make his way down the hallway before stopping and saying to the “what room?” The lady nodded and clicked on something else “room 27” Jay nodded and made his way down the hallway.

‘Room 27… Room 27!” Jay said to himself in a mild panic as he threw open doors sticking his head around the corner trying to find his office and new coworker. His papers were a tangled heap, a paper clip sticking out making him sigh and hastily try and fix them. “Are you lost?” he heard someone behind him. He probably looked like a toddler who was running around trying to find his mum. “Hello” he said back picking at his fingers as he was met with a sweet looking woman who also had a stack of papers in his hand. He smiled awkwardly as he straightened the papers in his hands “I need to find room 27” he blurted out.

The woman looked shocked but soon laughed out a little. She pointed to the top of the door he had been leaning against was in fact room 27. “Oh…” Jay said blandly he had been going on a wild goose chase all this time. The lady opened the door and motioned for him to follow in after him as he entered his new office. 

Two people were already in the office, a man and a woman. The man was wearing a pair of glasses and the woman was wearing a headband that was a bright yellow and had little blue flowers on it. The man with the glasses had a mess of brown hair atop his head. He was tapping away at his computer eyes trained on the next groundbreaking story or whatever. Jay felt a light push on his back making him stumble forward and knock over the wastebasket in the corner making the two people look up and stare at him “hello” Jay said with a shy wave placing the papers down on the table next to him trying to straighten himself up playing with his tie and fiddling with his cuffs of his shirt.

One of his new coworkers (the man) stood up and made their way towards Jay sticking out their hand offering it to him “Im Miguel '' he said. Jay smiled and returned the shake “very nice to meet you I’m Jay'' Miguel nodded slowly his eyes drifting to the women still behind him “Angela maybe next time don't push him through the door!” He seemed concerned that Jay had a rough start to the office day. Miguel picked up the stack of notes he had made and read over them his eyes scanning the page “these are really good”.

Jay smiled “thankyou”.

i feel like not enough ppl are factoring in the cultural clash between laios and shuro and the many micro agressions shuro faced while being in their group. literally the name 'shuro' in itself is one

his name is toshiro 😭 lets also not forget that he has his own communication issues, in the opposite way that laios does- thats literally a factor in their argument, that his envy for laios's ability to express himself sincerely manifested as part of his distaste for him.

ig all this to say like, was their fight heart wrenching, especially when reading laios as autistic? absolutely. anybody whos ever been in laios's position knows how much it hurts to realize someone you thought was your friend doesnt actually like having you around, especially when they didnt tell you and you had no way of knowing due to not understanding their cues. but im begging yall to step back and see the nuance of this situation cause im gonna be real a lot of you are kinda just brushing over it acting like everything is toshiros fault and that hes a terrible person when in reality hes an average guy who really, really clashed with laios and it led to a very long misunderstanding due to their supremely opposite methods of communication. even laios and toshiro, after letting everything out in their fight, were able to come to an understanding and start a foundation for an actual friendship built on better communication

ok yknow what Edit: i shouldve made it even more explicit at the end of this post, i hadnt thought i would need to since i started the post with this, but i think a few too many people are missing my point so i just wanna clarify. i shouldnt have said 'really clashed' and left it at that because yeah they did, but it wasnt just their opposite methods of communication, it is also very much that toshiro was experiencing microaggressions via laios. it may have been unintentional on laios's part, but it still happened and wore him down, made it harder for him to communicate on top of both the more subtle social cues that he was raised with and his own communication difficulties. i also want to say that the fandom reaction to toshiro and the complete ignorance of this point is also racist tbh or at the very least ignorant. i understand that the anime did not cover this panel, and neither did the manga, as this was an omake, but im gonna be real with you guys. there are enough context clues within the story to clue you into this. if you didnt pick up on it thats ok, but i think this is a good lesson in picking up subtext in the stories that youre watching and/or reading. kui shouldnt have to explicitly say 'by the way laios was racist to toshiro' for this point to be understood, and at the very least, when the author portrays a character in a sympathetic light (as kui clearly does) it should make you question Why they are doing so and what makes them sympathetic, rather than youre immediate and only reaction to be 'well i hated what this guy did/said so i hate them and they suck'. idk exactly how to finish this, just. idk. question your biases and gut reactions to things you see in media and stories, and think about whether or not theres subtext that youre missing.
