She knew it paid well, and that was going to make this a harder pitch than it would have been otherwise. “It’s my agency, it’s new,” she explained once she had his ear. “I can pay a nice sign on bonus. I got a really nice ‘anonymous’ donation, but after that, I can’t guarantee much of a salary unless we get the clientele. It could be tight for a while, and if money is important, I completely understand.”
Pausing for a breath, she then continued, “I wanted to be in the FBI. It was the dream, but in the last couple years, I realized the people who need me most are the people no one else is going to believe.” Her features softening, she added, “that’s why I’m asking you—even though I know I annoy you and your job pays really well and it’s money you’ve never had before. I think you might want to help the people like you: the people who don’t understand what’s happening, who need answers, who no one would believe. So I’m asking you if you want a job. With me.”
Shiloh gave a nod as she explained it was her agency. He recalled Ryder mentioning something about some money Ruth had received and remembering how she had basically pulled his entire life’s history going off just his name, he wasn’t entirely surprised to hear what she did with that money.
Shrugging a bit, he said, “Money was important to me. When I didn’t have any stability or a roof over my head. I’m living more comfortably now, so I guess I’m less dependent on it than I was before. So it’s not a deal breaker.” As she continues, he listens quietly as she laid out her proposition in full. And it was a hell of a proposition too.
His own features soften as he takes a moment to let that all sink in. “That was partially why I ran. When I killed that guy... I couldn’t understand how it had even happened in the first place. How I’d gotten to that point. I still don’t even remember hitting him past the first...” He took a breath as he shook his head. “It was like no amount of intervention or anger management seemed able to help me. I always just felt so out of control and I didn’t understand why or where to get the right help until it was too late.” He lifts his head to look at her. “If I can help someone else like me, I’d really like the opportunity to do that. So.” He reaches his hand across to her to shake on it.
staff: our april fools joke this year is a silly feature that doesn't really do anything but give you a button to boop other users! they have to opt-in first though :)
my partner doesn’t use pet names nearly as much as i do, which is very funny because i will crack my gay little knuckles and say some shit like “good morning my sun and moon, my loveliest boy, my baby my sweetheart my darling dearest” and he will reply “hello adrian”
VERY IMPORTANT a dam in the Netherlands, the weerdsluis lock, is directly on a migratory path for spawning fish. They have a worker stationed there to open the door for the fish, but they can take a while to open it. So to keep the fish from getting preyed on by birds they installed a doorbell. Only, the fish don't have hands to ring the doorbell. If you go to their website, they have a LIVE CAMERA AND A DOORBELL that YOU RING FOR THE FISH when they're waiting, and then the dam worker opens the door for them! I can't express how obsessed I am with this. look at this shit. oh my god.
Please check on the fish doorbell once in a while :)
