Screencap redraw ft. animated Tabaluga and my version of Lilli.

I tried to make Tabaluga as close to his 90s version. He didn't have a ribbed stomach in the og, that was something i added because it looks good

For Lilli's design i took inspiration from ballet & porcelain dolls. I made her eyes yellow to mimic Arktos. Her hair is supposed to be a cloud and i think that's fancy enough. IF she had a larger role in the show she should look like a main character, and since Tabaluga is a dragon I thought it be fun to give my Lilli a princess theme.

People who think Ahiru staying a duck at the end of the show is bad watched the show wrong. I can say this because I used to think it was bad and this was because I did, in fact, watch the show wrong.

The Fake Princess and the Obsessive Prince: A Decade of Hidden Desires Behind the Ice Mask - By Tenten (8/10)

Meaningful, strategic decisions. Convenient memory loss. Those two aspects don't mesh well, and it makes the story more average. It's sweet and dramatic, and the Ice Prince is super obsessed. It's worth a read, but the Plot Convenience is always there in the background. The story gets murky.

Lilly is a body double. She thinks she's friends with her princess, but it's a really toxic relationship. The Princess casually tells Lilly to sacrifice herself.

She does. Foolish, loving Lilly walks into marriage with a madman. All because her mistress and twin bestie deserves better....while she deserves nothing apparently.

The ice prince doesn't look very appealing.

Lilly wants to save her princess.

Lilly is a convenient orphan who definitely isn't the real princess with memory loss. Or a lost twin. That would be crazy. The other princess totally isn't keeping her as a brainwashed servant because civil war is coming. Lilly totally isn't a sacrifice.

Gray the reaper isn't that bad.

The mega sexist pushy arrogant prince is way worse.

But wait.

He's evil on purpose.

He keeps messing with Lilly because he KNOWS Gray is obsessed with her.

Behaving like an animal is sure to push Gray towards making errors out of anger.

It's all a plot. Nothing is real, except the bullying Lilly has to suffer through.

Gray earnestly tries his best.

He wants to be a loving husband.

Everybody else wants to torment Lilly because she's a foreigner.

Lilly isn't dumb. She knows the maids don't want to abuse her. Other powers are forcing them. Gray tries his best.

He really does...

....but it escalates

Lilly also thinks he loves the real princess, not her.

Gray has been torturing her bullies.

Also, his younger brother wants Lilly gone because she's an unessessary weakness. Even high ranking ladies are pawns in this world, but Gray stands strong. He ruthlessly carves a path to power, for Lilly.

Not the princess.

Lilly.

The stakes are high.

It's tense, but the memory loss aspect magically fixes everything...and that's boring.

My interpretation of Lilli from Tabaluga

I just got into Tabaluga lore and I adore Tabaluga x Lilli. So imagine my disappointment when I found out she only appeared once in the 90s cartoon :[

I took it upon myself to create a design for her. I want her to look more like a Main Character, using elements of the musical and official illustrations + my own headcanons.

For her hair gave her Curly/wavy texture to represent clouds. Imagine they take on a magical mist form. Since she's technically Arktos' daughter I gave her yellow eyes to match, as well as to contrast her color palette.

I intended to make her look more princess-y in line with the trend at the time. I tried to keep the basic silhouette of her iconic dresses with extra details to stand out. I gave her puffy sleeves to represent snowballs, some skirts have jagged layered, whole others are solid and basic for animation.

Forgot to add but she wears a tiara to complement Arktos's hat, it's made from icicles and colored a simple blue to stand out from her hair

Now for story: Arktos carves her from ice and uses her to bait Tabalufs, ofc they fall in loce and succeed over Arktos's plan. Lilli runs away with Tabaluga to the Greenlands. From there she and Tabaluga unites both lands against Arktos, Lilli herself learning to be more "human" ironically she already had humanity to begin with. That your background doesn't always define you. She accompanies Tabaluga on many of his journeys essentially she ends up being in a lot of canon episodes.

Ability: After joining the Greenland's she is taught how to defend herself in case Tabaluga isn't around. She learns to create illusions with her ice magic, and given a magic dance ribbon she can use as a lasso & grappling hook.

As a fan of fancy dresses, I appreciate that so many of the Pokegirls have been given one.

Not everyone is admitted to the gala though:

Explanations:

Pokemon Masters EX outfit: Leaf, Misty, Kris, Lyra, May, Hilda, Serena, Lillie, Lana, Marnie.

Iris uses her champion dress, and while Rosa does have a champion outfit in Masters, the princess costume from Pokestar studios was closer to what I had in mind for this. Dawn also has a Masters Sygna suit but I don't like how it looks and her contest dresses fit this theme alright.

Shauna and Chloe have Pokemon Performer (?) outfits (I'm not up to date with the anime terminology), though Chloe's is more like just reusing May's contest outfit so it doesn't feel truly hers, so she's on thin ice. Also the performer outfits feel more like idol costumes than formal party dresses to me so while they are fancy, it's not quite the kind of fancy I really want to see.

Elaine has the Formal Set and Gloria has some customisation options, namely the Party Dress, that are reasonably formal, though still underdressed compared to most of the other guests (meanwhile Hilda and Rosa are sort of overdressed but that's not a problem). And then there's Akari who I almost put in the other group but then remembered she does have the Tailored Suit outfit. Which is extremely not what I'm after, but then again if I were to include the Poke Boys in this, that outfit would be alright for any of them. So fine, let's not be sexist and she can stay too.

Then there's Selene who does have customisation options but none of them are fancy enough; this is the best I could come up with but it's not nearly enough. And Bianca, Mallow, Klara, Juliana, Nemona, Penny, Carmine and Liko don't have a fancy dress that I know of.

In the second Tabaluga album there is an ice princess and I've heard from someone that it is confirmed to be Arktos eldest daughter and she lives far away from him. It's true?

Well, I've never heard of anything like that in any of the interviews I've read and watched. And the albums also never imply anything of the sort.

So, this seems more like a fan theory to me.

Still, if the person you heard this from does have a source for that claim, I could try and check that out!

But until then, I’ll say it’s more than likely not true, or at least, not confirmed.

I can understand where the thought comes from though, the Ice Princess character from the second album seems to have a very similar nature to Arktos and Lilli, so it makes sense to speculate about an in-universe connection.

Her habit of freezing people to keep as part of her collection is similar to what Arktos does in several depictions of him, and her luring in people with false promises of love is similar to what Arktos usually intends to use Lilli for and extinguish Tabaluga’s fire.

Personally, I kinda like the idea that perhaps she is Lilli herself, from an alternate reality. After all, the Jadestone is capable of transporting Tabaluga to different worlds and eras, it seems.

That’s just my own idea, though ^^

But it’s also just as possible that she simply happens to be a similar creature without a direct connection.

The German lyrics of her song actually contain the line “Es gibt viele die so sind wie sie” (”There are many who are like her”), but I think that one refers to the real life concept she symbolizes.

In real life, I also wouldn’t wonder if the Ice Princess either consciously or subconsciously influenced the creation of Arktos’ character a bit.

In the second album, there is an especially strong focus on characters who are personifications of concepts, like Daimon being an incarnation of hatred, etc.

And the Ice Princess seems to represent the concept of a toxic/emotionally abusive relationship, in a very broad sense.

In the third album, Arktos represents the idea of hatred, opposing the idea of love, very similar to Daimon - but maybe the idea to make Arktos’ element ice instead was inspired by the Ice Princess?

That’s also just my own idea, though.

Also in case anyone is reading this who doesn’t know the albums well, this is referring to the otherwise unnamed “Ice Princess” character from “Tabaluga und das leuchtende Schweigen”, localized to English as “Tabaluga and the Magic Jadestone”.

Her character song is “Sie ist kalt” (”She is Cold”) in German, and “Cold Cold Heart” in English (videos might be blocked in certain countries.)

Fantasy Romance Recommendations Pt.1

I'm a big fan of Fantasy Romance books but I've noticed that a lot of recommendations lists have the same books over and over again. Nothing against Sarah J Maas, Jennifer Armentrout and Holly Black, but I have read their books already and I'm looking for new suggestions. And thus, I decided to make my own little list (with help from @housebaylor and @shirewalker). Maybe it will help someone somewhere.
