My essay for class. Applying an existential lens to Sukuna. Don’t mind the leaps in logic. I had to take them to make the theory fit Sukuna’s character. Enjoy if you read. Share thoughts if you have them.

Ryomen Sukuna is a 1000-year-old sorcerer who has taken the idea of existential freedom very literally, thus resulting in imposing his sense of self upon those he deems as weaker. He likes to eat people, literally and metaphorically, and can be considered a hedonist. Sukuna claims to have lived a life devoid of higher ideals and finds “love” to be worthless but romanticizes the thrill of finding an equal.

He rejects versions of reality that don't align with his sense of self, but fails to realize his sense of self is limited by his definition of the world. He has been challenged to grow but continues to assert his will and in doing so only reinforces his confirmation bias about how he sees the world. According to Schneider and Krug (2009), one way to deal with an individual like Sukuna, is by exploring the limits of freedom. Sukuna is one-sided in his approach to meaning-making and fails to consider others, thus the limits of his freedom would involve acknowledging the value of the existence of others, even if it limits how he operates in the world. Easier said than done, but a way to help him reconcile the limits of his freedom might involve helping him sit with feelings of discomfort that might come from having his freedom challenged, and feelings of “enchantment” he experiences when he finds someone who might be able to challenge his perception of the world. Since he is Japanese, despite his predominantly individualistic worldview and mindset, it is important to help Sukuna by assessing his values (Kress & Seligman, 2021).

Does anyone know a good way to display a bunch of single issue comics? Preferably something economical but doesnt have to be.

Basically ive got a shitton of Flash comics but theyre in a box, which is less than attractive. I mean, its pink so thats nice, but id rather display the comics themselves rather than a box 😅 So i was wondering if yall had any ideas or have come across anything cool.

my psychology of language class is now making spiral into the abyss of how capturing the identity of something in its name is no use.

the quote from r&j "a rose by any other name would smell as sweet" kind of is the perfect exmaple for this hmm

taking into account that we have three different things in a term: the meaning, the significant and the symbol. the meaning is what this thing is, the word we use to refer to it (rose, or tree or bird), the significant is what we use to identify that thing (a rose is a flower that -usually- is red and is an specific way and has thorns, a tree is this nature thing that has a bark and then it has some sort of leaves, a bird is an animal that has feathers and wings), and the symbol is the object we use to picture it in our heads (if I saiy tree, you would probably imagine one since we cannot read a word of something we know and not imagine it, or using the terms i've said before, we cannot read a meaning and not see the symbol of said meaning if we know it)

but of course it gets waaay more complex than that, as you can guess, because different symbols and objects have the same word or the same meaning, although their significant is different and their symbol is too. And using a significant for two things does not mean they share meaning. Picture for example the story about Plato, defining a man as a "featherless biped". A man IS a featherless biped, but, as Diogenes proved, a chicken plucked of its wings also shares that significant.

But what about the identity? Because we sure love to use that term and yet, do we know how to define it? The identity is the description of something, the significant; and yet is it? Significants do not change, they are definitions of something, descriptions. The identity is something that, to some point, allows change.

For example, if you take me, Carmen (meaning) and you describe me as a white caucasian young adult girl with ashy blonde hair and grey eyes (significant), you might get more or less a picture of me in your head (symbol. probs not an accurate one since the significant is vague, but a representation of what i described you, nonetheless). Therefore, if I dyed my hair purple and tattoed my whole body and used colored lenses, the description and the symbol you have of me would change.

But not my meaning. Cause I'm still Carmen.

If I decided to change my name, my meaning would change.

But not my behaviour, not my likes and dislikes, not my identity. I would, to some point, still be me.

I guess there's some comfort in knowing that, even if everything about you changes on way or another, you would still be you on the inside.

Okay I have a question bc I'm genuinely shocked this was allowed.

So apparently, in my town a girl went to school (highschool) with nothing on her top besides a red bra. This isn't normal, right? It seems incredibly inappropriate to me, and the girl should've known better for a number of reasons (mostly for the sake of basic respect, not everyone wants to see that). She got away with it, as well, according to a family friend who's kid saw this. I'm not overreacting, am I? /gen

Hey shawtys- I’ve been seeing a lot of people getting mad at a person for disagreeing with them on their own blog and I just… go back to twitter please.

Blocking is a real part of tumblr culture so there is zero need to argue and infantilize someone even if they got mad at someone. Stop doing that on other people’s blogs and then complaining about being told to go fuck yourself when it’s been shown as a pattern they don’t care about your points.

They should not be expected to educate you on their own fucking blog.

Funniest bit of the dnd movie is Xenk clearly being an NPC the DM introduced for lore and plot purposes who’s a competent fighter because of course he is, his reputation and backstory require it. But whoopsies the DM made him too powerful, the whole party likes him, and now they want him to come with to fight the BBEG which will completely and utterly fuck up the encounter balance

So instead of there being any actual plot reason he can’t join Xenk just says “I can’t. This is something only you can do.” And then walks off, never to interact with the party again because the DM just knows those little shits will find a way to use their OP creation against them

#but this movie was fun! clearly understood and had fun with its source material without being pure fan service #like don’t get me wrong there was fan service and jokes but I feel like even not knowing dnd you could enjoy it #I also really liked how you could tell what each spell was as it was cast even if they weren’t named! my wizard main self was so excited lol #xenk yendar #dungeons and dragons #honor among thieves #dungeons and dragons honor among thieves #dungeons and dragons movie #dnd #idk what we’re tagging this with gang so I went with all of it
