#if people are anti comprehensive sex ed

Advocacy work is fun because it means getting emails from groups claiming to fight child abuse/sexual violence being like "whee! we do stuff you care about! let's work together" and then sixteen google searches, hours of reading, an way too much time later it turns out they're actually some far-right group that rebranded themselves but is still on their anti-sex ed, anti-lgbtq rights grind.
By this being fun I mean super annoying and I'm peeved.

Ok I feel like we don’t really get into what sex-repulsion can look like when discussing aspec experiences.
For a long time I thought sex-repulsed was the stereotypical “ew sex is gross” stuff that gets perpetuated. For years I struggled. I called myself sex-favorable because I was all for being sex positive, offering comprehensive sex ed, discussing sex, viewing erotica, etc. At this time I got into relationships with allo people and there were intense feelings gnawing out. I didn’t mind talking about sex as a concept or between other people but the minute I was placed in a sexual context I would get the ick.
It took me so long to realize that this was sex repulsion, because I thought it needed to be grandiose and intense. I still feel weird identifying myself as sex-repulsed because I don’t want people to assume I was against sexual freedom. I feel like we need to do more to challenge the notion that being sex repulsed is inherently anti-sex and let know people know that’s being sex repulsed isn’t a shameful thing, it’s just a piece of you.

You know how adults go "oh no one came out as trans or gay when I was a kid. Must be all social!"
I graduated high school in 2019. So many people in that school only came out after they graduated because it's in such a conservative evangelical area.
Many of the teachers and stuff were commuting from Chicago because Illinois public school system sucks for anyone who's not in an upper middle class area and were supportive.
The issue was mainly being afraid of parental backlash. The GSA tried to get more comprehensive sex ed (we didn't even learn about mouth guards, all we learned about was condoms with a huge push on abstinence), and immediantly got a no because it can come off as "encouraging" that behavior. The school counselors tried to keep the GSA from inviting older queer people to speak because then they may be forced to allow anti gay speakers in.
The Day of Silence got so many students picked on and for a video about it the club got in trouble for showing two boys kissing. It was rebranded by students as "for kids who committed suicide from bullying" without the LGBTQ part. The Day of Silence.
That was the club that allowed me to come out and accept myself by the way. It wasn't all negative but it was beyond limited and filled with the reminder that we were not welcome like cishet students were.
I came out in that school because I didn't have any other choice. My mental health was life risking at the time. When I did I got a bit more popular, but that's because I never talked or hung out with anyone before. I had to constantly be on guard though and did get harassed. There were students that actively avoided me too.
Of course I met trans people in the school, but usually they came out to me because I was the out trans person. They too avoided being too out.
ROGD was published in 2018. The year that I finally got the ability to socially transition in school. And it's so, so ignorant to what many of us outside of big cities and liberal areas go through. What people say about how it's so better now and for *my* generation are right in many ways, but also dismiss what me and many of my classmates went through. It took so much bravery to come out at that school and we were all kids.
And I know that I still had it much better than students in middle and high school right now in other schools in America.
Point is, I wish those people would shut up. Not only because their scare tactics are hurting the rights of queer kids, but because their attitudes of them are so dismissive to what they go through every day.

The Political Platform of the Democratic Socialists of America:
Abolition of the Carceral State
Abolition of White Supremacy
A Powerful Labor Movement
Economic Justice
Gender and Sexuality Justice
Green New Deal
Health Justice
Housing for All
International Solidarity,
Anti-Imperialism, and Anti-Militarism
DSA' Political Platform on
Gender and Sexuality Justice
DSA is a socialist feminist organization. We organize people of all genders to fight against systems of oppression and exploitation, including patriarchy, capitalism, and white supremacy.
Liberal representation feminism is content with increasing the number of female faces in oppressive structures. A few women in positions of power, however, is not liberation. Liberation means all genders having freedom and control over their own lives and bodies through ending exploitation.
DSA fights to build a feminism for and by the working class and all oppressed people. Capitalism specifically impacts women workers through devaluing of feminized labor, sexual violence in the workplace, unpaid housework, and the expectation of emotional labor.
DSA fights for the democratization of domestic and care work, political and social liberation for all genders, full bodily autonomy for all, and the end of state recognition of the gender binary.
We stand in solidarity with grassroots feminist movements around the world in their fight against capitalist oppression and exploitation.
We organize for the liberation of queer people, understanding that liberation – having the power to define our life choices, and fulfill our greatest potential — depends on achieving economic justice for the multiracial working class, and all oppressed people.
We fight against violence against black transgender women, federal and state discrimination, and all political and social barriers to full control over ourbodies and sexualities. We seek equity so that queer people, subject to discrimination and violence, have the means to livea liberated, fulfilling life.
We strongly oppose “rainbow capitalism,” in which banks, police, andcorporations wrap themselves in Pride flags during June in order to make profit, all while exploiting queer workers.
We likewise reject “homonationalism,” the process of using superficial support of LGBTQ+ people, such as US military propaganda featuring gay couples, to provide cover for the brutalities of the American empire. Companies in the military-industrial complex may march in corporate Pride parades, but we recognize them for what they are: enemies of the global working class, and of the international queer liberation movement.
We seek nothing less than liberation.
OUR DEMANDS:
Reproductive Justice for All
Free contraception and birth control for all who want it, provided by the state
Free fertility treatment for all
Free abortion on demand
Repeal of the Hyde Amendment and all legal restrictions on abortion access
Reparations for all those impacted by reproductive and sexual violence committed by the state, such as those forced to undergo hysterectomies in ICE detension
An immediate end to forced sterilization of disabled people
Affordable representation of disabled people within family courts
Protection and expansion of the legal rights of disabled parents regarding guardianship
Paid parental leave for all people
Universal child care, elder care, and pre-kindergarten
Quality, age appropriate, and comprehensive sex-ed taught in schools
End Employment and Housing Discrimination Based on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity and Expression
Enact federal and state anti-discrimination laws, including passage of ENDA and the Equality Act, as well as the addition of “sexual orientation, gender identity and expression” as a protected category in all human rights laws
Require “just cause” for evicting someone from housing or terminating employment
Enhance and strengthen equal pay guarantees, including by requiring the EEOC to resume collecting pay data from large employers, forbidding prior salary from being considered in setting pay rates, and increasing transparency and protections for workers discussing their own pay
Housing for all and a universal ban on housing discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity
End Anti-Queer Violence
The establishment of community-based response systems to transphobic and homophobic violence, especially violence targeting black trans women, that is entirely separated from the police and criminal law system
Put in place greater protections for survivors of sexual assault and abolition of the requirement that survivors file a police report to access funds
Allow transgender prisoners to be housed in facilities reflecting their gender identities
Guarantee Queer-Friendly and Gender Affirming Healthcare
Enact a single-payer Medicare for All system that provides free queer sexual health and gender affirming healthcare, including HIV care, PrEP, fertilty treatments, birth control, abortion care, mental health care, hormone replacement therapy, and gender-affirming surgeries
Allow trans minors to access gender affirming care without parental consent
Prioritize funding for health centers that provide transgender healthcare, especially in rural and conservative areas, on reservations, and in underserved urban areas
Guarantee that transition-related healthcare, including HRT and surgery, to all incarcerated people who request it
End gender restrictions in insurance coverage, such as the practice of only covering contraceptive costs for women, and demand healthcare tailored to our actual bodies rather than our ID cards
End gendered restrictions on medical care, including but not limited to services available to sexual assault survivors
End the Repression of Sex Workers and Fully Decriminalize Sex Work Nationwide
Repeal FOSTA/SESTA
Increase consideration of the intersection of disability and sex work and provision of specific resources for disabled sex workers
Dignity for domestic and care workers
Increased wages for domestic labor and care work, including through a $15 minimum wage indexed to inflation
Require domestic laborers and home health aides to be paid for all hours worked
The end of mandated 24-hour workdays
End the State Recognition of the Gender Binary and Enforcement of Heteronormativity
Remove all barriers and requirements to changing one’s ID gender marker and legal name
End all laws prohibiting cohabitation of unrelated people, which exist only to privilege the heterosexual nuclear family over nontraditional and chosen family
End conversion therapy and provide stronger supportive care for minors whose families abandon them
Grant all privileges afforded to married couples to all consenting partnerships
Eliminate the financial and healthcare barriers for disabled people to marry freely

I'm thinking about starting a radqueer-aligned anarchist ecovillage commune, but I'd want there to be some infrastructure in place to create a healthy environment. I'm thinking comprehensive sex ed courses, anti-abuse and anti-grooming training, nonviolent conflict resolution courses and some minimum requirements such as avoiding harmful contact and making sure to self govern. I want people to be honest about their boundaries and to create a culture of consent. I think the government structure could be a form of modified consensus. I'd love to have a permaculture farm integrated into the ecosystem as well. I'd definitely need more people to help organize the commune but I want it to be non-hierarchical. it would also be cool to integrate solarpunk infrastructure, praxis, and aesthetics into the design of the community.
I don't have any income or resources at the moment so getting a community started would take some help from others, but honestly that may be for the better since it could create healthy lasting bonds from the start.

If you're a US Citizen over 18, remember to VOTE in the midterms. Irritate everyone you know into voting. Even if the candidates are blah. Even if you're burnt out. Let's get this the fuck over with!
*Feel free to use any of my graphics on your social media. Please do.
As bad as things are, a Republican congress is going to make it a million times worse.
Tumblr media
If the GOP gain control of #Congress, in addition to stopping the investigation into January 6 and gumming up the process of getting bills that HELP PEOPLE passed in favor of performative "anti-woke" "anti-CRT" and anti-Biden measures, they promise to pursue a NATIONAL ABORTION BAN.
Tumblr media
No ban will end abortion. It will end legal, safe abortion. The rich will get them anyway from private doctors who lie for them. The poor and desperate will do it to themselves and die in the process.
The American Health Care system is already terrible when just money is corrupting it. Adding in confusing "only if the life of the mother is in danger" rulings make it even worse. Women will die… Have died. You are punishing not just people seeking to terminate a pregnancy but couples getting fertility treatments, incest/rape victims, and ovary-havers facing an unexpected medical crisis. You are in favor of unnecessary, pointless death.
If you personally believe abortion is amoral, don't get one. Work to prevent the need for abortion with comprehensive sex ed and contraception. Crusade for maternity leave and make American society more welcoming to mothers.
If you want abortion banned to "punish sluts" who get an abortion the day before their due date on a whim, get in a trash can. You're not pro-life, you're pro-forced birth.
Democrats must keep the House and Senate and hopefully increase their numbers to make Manchin/ Sinema irrelevant as they should be.

You asked me to remind you about this on friday- little late, but!
I would like to hear your thoughts n perspective as a black gay man on the 'conservative v liberal gays' vid by jubilee. or the 'why trans is a lie' vid by kai decadence
youtube
I watched it! I liked it! I thought it would be bad, or have a conservative lean. But honestly, a lot of people had good points that you can take and discus.
-Gay community is oversexualized
I would have to agree, but like, more into, that there are a lot of places to express your sexuality. And there are places to express other parts of your sexuality that aren't related to sex, and those places aren't given enough shine or credence. And it's not the community's fault, its the fault of individuals. We have the power to choose what we advertise and big up.
-Pride is still necessary
Absolutely. Pride isn't just America. It's worldwide. The majority of lgbt people in the world are not living free or in countries with at least neutral laws. They need pride. Also in america, we are seeing an uptick of anti-lgbt laws, of hatecrimes, and children being bullied and commiting suicide. Pride is important more than ever. we cannot be complacent.
-LGB should be separated from TQIA
Absolutely not. If you wanted to separate the two, it should have been done long time ago in the 1970s. It's too late to do that now. We are a sociological group and a political group. Also it's just not useful to separate us. There are lots of trans people who are bisexual, gay, and lesbian. Too much overlap, you can't have an LGB space without including trans, intersex, asexual etc. Also Queer is ambiguous and LGB people identify as queer as well.
And I think that man made a good point that the Q is important to fit all those people who don't identify as LGB or don't want to identify as LGB. We can't just pretend they don't exist cause they don't fit nicely.
-Drag Shows are too sexual for minors
Most drag shows that are done, are done for adults and not appropriate for kids. However, the drag shows being done for kids, are age appropriates. Hateful people pick out extreme examples, or lie about examples, to try to attack the community. Drag Story hour is appropriate. Seeing a drag queen at pride is appropriate. And again, it's always parents choice! parents right! but not when Susan wants little Timmy to get his life at drag brunch
-I would date a transman
I would. I never have because I haven't met a trans man who've I've been intimate with but I am not against the idea. Trans people are people who are experiencing the world just like we are and they are not waiting with baited breath to see who whose gonna to love to them, because they are already being loved and cherished by the people they do. These debates are silly and dehumanizing.
I also think people need to get over the fact that some people's sexuality is based on sex, some are based on gender, some are based on both sex and gender. They're all valid. It's all about being respectful to people.
-LGBTQ topic should be taught in the school
Absolutely. It should be taught, celebrated. Not just during in sex ed. (We need comprehensive sex ed for all genders and sexuality). We should also mention the sexuality of prominent lgbtq historic figures.
And let's not remember the anti-gay propaganda laws are also attacking the personal rights of teachers and students. Teachers can't mention their queer families in passing, as well as students. It's stopping expression of the individual.
-Monogamous relationships are hard to find in the community
Not true. They're easy to find. Of course, if you're looking on grindr and sex clubs you're not going to find it. But you still can. There are other places.
The problem is that people such at relationships. They don't know how to set boundaries and rules and have conversations and cannot accept the fact that people change and what they want change. They don't want to be honest and vulnerable. This isn't a gay thing. This is a human thing.

About Me
Hi! I'm leaves-lilies-and-esther, this is just a random post I made to summarize the blog.
I mostly post about feminism here, though occasionally I may veer into other topics that I'm interested in. I enjoy cooking, old music, reading, and creative writing. My favorite animals are easily cats, though I can't adopt one at the moment. INFP.
In the future I want to study some combination of literature, history/social sciences, or international relations. Ideally I would love to be a published author, anthropologist, social worker, etc. Currently learning the Spanish language!
Politically left-leaning by USAmerican standards. If you disagree with me you're welcome here- I like to (respectfully) debate! I wouldn’t be considered a true radical feminist because I am not "gender critical", but I agree with their analysis on other topics.
Reblogging is not an endorsement of their entire blog
My feminist beliefs are:
The beauty industry is destructive and predatory to women and girls. An ideal situation is one in which women feel comfortable going out in public without an altered version of their faces, cosmetic surgeries, unhealthy weight-loss regimens, and perfectly hairless legs. Body neutrality is healthy and should be promoted.
The sex industry is likewise degrading. Porn tends to be very violent and misogynistic, and is associated with increased domestic violence etc. To paraphrase Catherine MacKinnon: sex work is usually neither sex nor work, but coercion.
Pro-choice is best for women's health. It is not ethical to force anyone to undergo pregnancy due to the physical and mental toll that it requires. Anti-abortion laws typically have casualties- ie, Savita Halappanavar and Olga Reyes. Most late term abortions are fetuses that were wanted (until new circumstances) or cases where women could not have access in time. Therefore, improving access is critical. Reproductive autonomy extends to procedures like getting tubes tied etc.
The government should have policies which help mothers, and women with reproductive autonomy overall. While abortion should be legal, the widespread necessity of it is symptomatic of other structural problems. Ie, we need paid parental leave, larger tax breaks to low-income families with children, crisis pregnancy centers, educational opportunities designed for teen parents, to fix our foster care and adoption systems, comprehensive sex ed, etc. Being pro-choice means that women should have the true choice to keep their baby if they wish.
We should be trans inclusive. Regardless of your beliefs about gender, trans people would probably exist either way (even if you successfully abolish gender, people will still experience dysphoria with their bodies). Transition can be the best informed decision. Statistically, trans inclusion in bathrooms etc make no difference in sexual assault rates. Denying these rights exposes trans people to assault and polices the appearance of cis women- enforcing gender even more strictly.
Traditional gender roles put women at the disadvantage. While there is inherent value in traditional "women's work", gender roles play out to put women in a position of insecurity and dependence (ie, if you want money, then you are the mercy of your husband to give it to you. And if he loses his job or dies, then you're broke). This is only one example.

If you really want to understand what conservative leaders want from abortion bans, all you really need to do is look at how they respond to other measures which would be much more effective for reducing the total number of abortions that happen. The  obvious ones being comprehensive sex ed, convenient free access to contraceptives, family planning services, and strong, consistently enforced consent laws. All of these measures would drastically reduce the number of pregnancies among people who are not interested in or ready for parenthood. However, conservatives fight such measures tooth and nail because they would give women power over their own bodies, while enthusiastically supporting literally the only anti-abortion measure which has ever been proposed that strips women of rights.

Do you think antis have repressed kinks of fantasies and they're lashing out at proshippers as harshly and obsessively as they do bc of some internalized shame? Not excusing them ofc, bc antis'words and actions go beyond the pale, but i wonder if that's one of the reasons why they consume problematic media yet hurt others for bullying the same.
I wouldn't say thats true 100% of the case, but sometimes they will infer something... disturbingly specific about my sexual fantasies.
I'd say that a lack of comprehensive sex ed is a problem. At least, when I was younger, I was confused/grossed out by stuff I didn't understand and nobody bothered to explain to me. If you don't understand why people do what they do, you tend to assume the worst motive possible.
Of course, this isn't letting them off the hook. Google is still a thing, and other options exist if your parents go through your search history. (though it would be a weird parent okay with suicide baiting and not sex.)

trying to figure out a way to say what i want to say without it getting lengthy but
if you know me, you know i gave up on my bachelor's in psych earlier in my 20's when i had to move coasts, and instead switched to an associates in programming
its hard dreaming big when mental health is so terrible but my mental health is finally to a point where i believe in myself again and theres a much more stable foundation under me now
im going back to school, hopefully this spring, to finish my bachelor's in psychology, then to finish my associates in programming. im really excited about this. i feel like the two belong together, especially in an age where A. our mental healths are so bad and B. the internet and technology at large is increasingly insidious and creates this endless feedback loop that feeds on anti-social behavior
my goal is to make a website (or a series of sites) that is a comprehensive stop for educational resources, information, and research on subjects that are vital learning for navigating ourselves within the world around us
im not sure if that makes sense!! but basically information on proper sex ed (including reproductive information, information on gender and sexuality), information on healthy relationships and how to spot unhealthy ones, as well as a more organized and cohesive directory of global, national, and local resources and programs.
im very very excited to announce this, it seems to have gotten good feedback whenever i mention it to people. im not sure how exactly im going to do this, or which information im going to start with, but im going to try! i may start a sideblog to document my progress and save related information for the site

really? you don't think that in a few years being a man or woman will feel like an outdated thing? because i think it's very likely
There's no way, at least, not in the US, where I live. We don't even have comprehensive sex-ed, and there's a huge debate here about whether or not it's "appropriate" to teach children that LGBT people exist. This is the current state of the US with regard to gender and LGBT issues:
Only 58% of Republicans and Republican leaners in the US think that homosexuality should be accepted. Same-sex marriage has only been allowed in all 50 states since 2015. Only about four-in-ten U.S. adults (38%) say that greater acceptance of people who are transgender is generally good for our society, while 32% say it is bad and 29% say it is neither good nor bad.  65% of conservative Republicans say acceptance of trans people has been bad for society. One study found that most participants (73%) were taught traditional gender roles in their childhood home, and 89% had heard negative opinions about non-conformity. That same study found that 13.6% of heterosexual participants reported they had been bullied for gender non-conformity as did 42.7% of LGBTQ-identified individuals. Nearly 1-in-4 (23.6%) participants believed that male cross-dressing is wrong.
Plus, opinions on issues of gender aren't really changing. Half of Americans say they would feel very or somewhat comfortable using a gender-neutral pronoun to refer to someone if they were asked to do so, but 48% say they would feel very or somewhat uncomfortable doing so. These numbers are virtually unchanged since 2018. A majority of U.S. adults (56%) believe that whether someone is a man or a woman is determined by the sex they were assigned at birth, with 41% saying that a person’s gender can be different from the sex they were assigned at birth. These numbers are unchanged since 2017.
On a policy level, Montana, Tennessee, and Arkansas all passed laws last year that require schools to give families advance notice of lessons on gender identity and sexual orientation and allow parents to opt their children out.
Just two months ago, Alabama's governor Kay Ivey signed two anti-LGBT bills into law. One criminalizes gender-affirming surgeries for trans youth, and the other is a ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill that prevents teachers from teaching "divisive concepts" in schools and only allows people in schools to use the bathroom of the gender listed on their birth certificate. There's just no way that in 2030, Kay Ivey is suddenly going to be like, "actually, I feel like being a man is outdated, let's just get rid of gender in Alabama and call it a day."
People are terrified of gender norms being broken. I know some people who are okay with binary trans people but not with nonbinary people because they're that uncomfortable with people who are gender non-conforming. It's going to be a real uphill battle to get those people to let go of their misogynistic views, much less to get them to accept the existence of trans and nonbinary people, to get them to break down their own preconceived notions about what gender means, to become comfortable with gender non-conformity in others, and finally to become comfortable with gender being "outdated" and falling by the wayside on a societal level, meaning that they will also lose their personal relationship to it. Even in big cities that are liberal, that's a huge ask. It's definitely not going to happen in Montana or Tennessee or Arkansas or Alabama or Florida. But those are the steps it would take to get to the point where we can just "get rid of gender".
Certainly, I think there's a growing acceptance for gender non-conformity and people who feel like gender is outdated, particularly among Gen Z, where about 5% of them identify as transgender or nonbinary. But that's certainly not a representative population for the rest of the US or even the rest of Gen Z, and it's definitely not a representative population for the rest of the world.

Why do you invest so much time ranting at people you don’t even know or care about? You have no intention of opening your mind. You don’t care about what they think. So why keep coming back to them?
What an unusual and strangely combative ask.
The truth of the matter is that I often don't even have to look for conflict, this is tumblr, people with no reading comprehension often create the fights for me.
In that case I suppose it's my instincts from being a teacher that take over.
But I do criticize homophobia and transphobia where I see it, I doubt that I'm actually changing many minds but if I'm able to unsettle some homophobes in their prejudice.. I see no reason not to.
Prejudice survives by isolation and it is propagated by repeating it. So maybe I can't actually get a dyed-in-the-wool bigot to come to a nuanced understanding of why anti-Queer prejudice is immoral; but if I can inspire a little bit of shame or paranoia I might be able to reduce the chances of them actively spreading those prejudices around in front of vulnerable or impressionable people.
Part of why I like discussing the Bible in relation to homophobia is so that a lesser-known perspective can be seen. It can be quite impactful if all you've ever known in the church is hatred and disgust. And I've already done all this legwork to learn all this information about translation and semantics.. so I might as well share it.
I think it's generally healthy for these conversations to be happening, many people lack the adult capacity to have a disagreement while understanding that their "opposition" are still thinking breathing people with functioning minds.
I'm generally a pretty amicable person and, while I don't consider an openness to learning bigotry to be a virtue, I'm very convincible. I've had my mind changed many times and sometimes I even tell detractors what would convince me(not that they usuall care to listen but that's another matter).
But I also won't pretend that I don't find these sorts of discussions fun, I like talking about complex ideas, especially with my friends.
Like I said I think that this is a healthy thing for all people to do, I do think that there are benefits to it, but I also consider the language and the presentation of ideas to be potentially fun creative endeavor.
I also learn a ton.
Gosh you'll never learn so much as you do while trying to answer other people's questions.
I know so much more about history, linguistics, sex-ed, biology, statistics, just because I was trying to verify the ideas that other people said.
So in that sense my mind is changing all the time.
I just like to talk and think and learn, if I can help out a bit too all the better.
If nothing else, my words per minutes is very good.

What I'm getting is that most people get their kinks not from running across actual fetish content (like how a lot of antis like to frame it) but from totally SFW content ranging from the weird to the totally mundane to even just playing pretend as a child. And there's a good debate to be had there about if that stuff causes the kink or merely awakens what was already there or a mixture of both. A better solution would be comprehensive sex ed that includes discussion of kink, not trying to prevent teens and kids from ever getting contaminated by icky kink stuff.

Yup.
