#if you tell them I guarantee you they will know it's problematic content

Hey not a ask and you don’t have to answer this publicly but on your nsfw twitter, I noticed you drew the mercs drinking while having sex and I wanted you to know that drunk sex is r/ape/non-con. They’re intoxicated so they can’t properly consent so I recommend editing those pics or deleting them!
Scout is not intoxicated in the drawing. I imagined it happened the next day at night, perhaps? Since I did depict him hungover, or even a couple days after since an 0rgy like that does require proper planning and preparation
Anyway

I'm so sick of performative activism like it will be the end of me.
Let's not pretend the entire thing with DSMP or Boyfriends (using those are examples because they're the ones I see the most) had *anything* to do with the problematic content/creators. At least, a mass majority of the people who claimed they cared, did not.
It was never about the offensive things Dream said or whatever weird thing that Tommy kid said. It wasn't about the "bad" poly rep (I haven't read the webtoon so I can't say anything about this,) it was never about the racism. It was because it's "cringe." That's it. They will tell it "oh no it's because they're bad people and I don't like their supporters!" And while normally I'd believe them, I don't anymore.
Considering a large (and I mean LARGE) portion of these fandoms are filled with literal children who don't know any better, it's so weird to harass them over liking media y'all deem problematic, as if you didn't like anything problematic as a kid. And I can guarantee you, you did.
Lizzo isn't really that best example but lemme put it this way, the minute she was deemed problematic and an awful person, people dogpiled on her and fat shamed her to all hell. Which was extremely inappropriate and not helping anybody.
The point is, people always wanted to do these things. People always wanted to tell DSMP fans to k*y, people always wanted to send Boyfriends fans death threats, and they always wanted to fatshame Lizzo. The list goes on and on. They just waited until it became "acceptable."

IkeGen Sampler #1 - Kurama
Tumblr media
Kurama: “Are you afraid of me, human?"
I have a ton of Ikemen Genjiden translations sitting around (accuracy not guaranteed, as always) and I thought that just for fun I'd try posting some of my random favorite scenes from various routes. This will be the first in an occasional series, maybe? If you guys are truly interested in anyone or any more, let me know and I'll see what I can do! For now, we'll kick it off with my problematic favorite, Kurama.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
(From Chapter 20)
"You there...what are you doing?"
The air is suddenly so tense she can't even breathe, the men's leers frozen as they all turn in the direction of the unknown voice in unison... And she's thinking no, no way, this can't be real...
"Did you touch that woman?" Kurama falls from the sky, his wings spread wide as if to embody the fury emanating from his frame, the enemy soldiers completely stunned.
Tumblr media
All she can wonder is...what is he doing here?? She doesn't even have time to ponder the answer, when she feels tears well up and fall from her eyes.
He’s silent at the sight before he bites out an order for her to wait, spreading his fan open, and the wind shrieks around all the men at once.
Tumblr media
Kurama looking on coolly as they all begin to scream, the invisible blades slicing into them. They back away from her, shouting, scrambling for their swords.
One man tries to threaten MC to get Kurama to back down - making it halfway through his words before Kurama's eyes meet his and his sentence shears off. Silenced by a single blade of wind slashing his throat. He cuts down a second that tries to beg for his life, drawing his sword and dispatching him with just one blow, never even glancing at the man. A third tries to back away, but -
"Where are you going?" Kurama asks. He chases the man down with a few powerful beats of his wings, landing in front of him and cutting off his escape. "I'll send you straight to hell."
His ice-cold voice is the last thing the man hears.
Kurama looks out over the assembled men, covered with blood, and grins - saying that today is a good day, because he can vent his fury to his heart's content. MC's thinking in horror how ruthless that is...and the remaining men all freeze with terror, basically pissing themselves.
"M-monster!" accuses one.
Kurama agrees that he's right. "And your blood is the only sacrifice that's going to appease me."
His wings are soaked with it, so much so they almost shine, and it's the most unholy terrifying thing she's ever seen as he tells them he won't be leaving a single one of them alive now that they've seen the real him. His blade flashes, laying into them all, and she realizes he's dead serious - he means to kill every last one of them. She's half-dazed with exhaustion and everything else, as she staggers to her feet and croaks out for him to wait.
He stops immediately at the sound of her voice.
Tumblr media
"Don't...kill them..." She doesn't even know why that request popped out, so nervous and exhausted she can't even think properly, and Kurama studies her in silence for a moment...before he turns her down flat.
He leaps into the sky, landing behind the next man - taking flight again before the man has even finished hitting the ground to fly on to his next victim...and she knows what she's witnessing is nothing more than wholesale slaughter. The soldiers not standing even the ghost of a chance against him.
Gore covers the ground, already congealing in a nightmarish sight as she tries to think - what should she do? What can she say to him? She approaches him slowly, and is struck by the very real thought that she might be killed too.
Nothing burns in his scarlet eyes but the exultant flames of slaughter.
"You're shaking," Kurama notes.
"I..." is all she gets out.
His blood-coated fingers reach towards her, touching cheeks that feel frozen into a mask. "With these hands, I slaughtered your kind. Like crushing insects, without hesitation or mercy. Are you afraid of me, human?"
Tumblr media
Her hands and feet feel numb with tension, as she prays not to give him the wrong answer. Knowing he will detect even a hint of a lie. "...I am afraid," she admits. She can hear him draw a short, sharp breath at her quivering answer. "But...thank you for helping me."
"You..." His voice sounds confused, his words cutting off abruptly as if afraid she might hear how it shakes, before he goes on. "Your cheeks are warm."
It sounds as if he's saying it aloud simply to reassure himself.
"You're alive," he finishes.
Tumblr media
She agrees, her chest aching at the overwhelming relief in his tone. Wondering why he acts this way, when he swore to kill her himself someday.

maybe i am just a weirdo and am being a Bad Person but like
I feel like banning proship shit and starting to censor other ao3 shit is a realllllllll fucking slippery slope
like- what happens then? do we get a council that starts filtering fics? are we going to get a site split and send those writers away? is this a stepping stone to things like... censoring gore and censoring just general ships?
how do we define proshipping? i don’t want to engage with the discourse, just because then i would just die of like “every single fic I have ever read must make me a bad person ive read smut before ive definitely touched at least one problematic things before i am such a bad person” but even so, i feel like the line is more blurry than we think it is? i get the genuine idea that “proshippers believe that fiction doesn’t impact reality!!!!” but what does that translate to in a shipping part?
i look at ao3 like an archive, instead of a social media site, it’s a record of transformative works, and part of that record will be problematic ships and that type of content if that is part of the fandom, right? its not a social media site, either
i definitely get that problematic fanworks can be used for awful things and have definitely caused hurt, and i get that dldr cant apply all of the time because at all times there is going to be someone who does not tag, there is someone who uses character tags, youre new to the fandom and you don’t know to filter out things, i 100% get it
but i feel like proshipping- like as a concept, harassment does not work, or it does but in like an awful way. i would hate to think that due to one of my moral principles about something on the internet caused someone to want to harm themself, because otherwise, I really doubt that a lot of people who have already got the subcommunity that creates this content are going to be really convinced by comments telling them how morally wrong their interests are is going to change due to this
why would we change this? like... would the impact be that we just alienate this part of fandom? because in that case, if proshipping and problematic content is the worst thing in fandom, isn’t that actually worse? doesn’t that just isolate large swaths of people who might have been, in theory exploited or groomed by these communities? because i can almost 100% guarantee that this would just lead to another website or something else, getting around tags and still posting it there, etc, etc, etc. this content will not stop with suppression, I just think that it would get more isolated. if you leave a community on itself and dont engage with it other than with scorn or mocking (which is what we already do, and look what that does) it will just- there’s no sounding board, and this idea of like... they just hate us, no matter what we do, the other part of this group will just hate us- which is obviously not a good thing
alongside this, doesn’t it make the moral part worse? if you start fandom like this, and then you gotta make that transfer to general fandom, isn’t a large stigma going to develop about being a bad person, making the transition out of these communities harder? is being a proshipper an isolated identity, where if you create or consume problematic content or believe in proshipper ideologies (god that sounds fucked up), you no longer have the same engagement with regular fandom??
so, yeahhh. while the board changes, i think that that would be fucked up and bad, i think that would be a bad change because it would just make the problems that exist in theory worse! you have the isolated content problem and the “how?? where is the line of proshipper content” problem (ive met different people who draw the line differently so) yeah
uh not a good idea
if my language feels too neutral here, it’s because I don’t know enough about either communities to be like: oh okay this is exactly how i feel, these are the exceptions, etc, and I know enough about problematic discourse for some fandoms and thats what ive based this post on
if you want to critique and shit go for it but like there isnt really proshipper stuff i care too much about, and i dont want to do genuine discourse, this just was like opinion vomit so yeah
if thats block worthy for you (not really caring about proshippers) go for it

I Already Said It
Yeah they’re brats, but Mikey and Jay got brutally executed here. For cheating at a CARNIVAL. A flipping CARNIVAL. Yeah they deserve some sort of lesson, but...
You know what, I take back EVERYTHING I said about Jay’s mom being tolerable. She’s bad.
Yeah I think the punishment was way too far. They wanted the tour prize, and they don’t get it. THEY SHOULD HAVE STOPPED THERE.
But no, they don’t even get to be at the party AT ALL after that, AND additional punishments on top of that.
Heck, Mikey’s mom DRAGS HIM BY THE EAR AS HE SCREAMS.
Dhar Mann, dude, THIS IS ABUSE YOU’RE SHOWING, NOT FAIR PUNISHMENT.
So, let me get this straight, and August The Duck brought this up too in a video:
TRYING TO KILL SOMEONE, warrants NO punishment, in fact reward.
CHEATING AT A CHILDS GAME, warrants SHUNNING, physical abuse, mental abuse, and all of the above at once.
I’m not getting the message here Dhar Mann. Either you’re encouraging that kids will be punished for their bad actions, or they won’t be. PICK ONE.
I already said everything in my ‘How Mikey is an example of an abused child’ post. Links Here:
https://www.tumblr.com/blog/view/nexy308769/691344441229836288?source=share
I covered everything I could find involving Mikey’s character, and how bad the parents are. If I covered the latest video of these brats, I’d just be repeating myself. (Tbh, that post is probably my favorite Dhar Mann post I’ve made so far)
Honestly Dhar Mann’s just going off the wall at this point, with the MUCH more cartoonish thumbnails there whey SPIRTE the actors and you can see the white edges on them. (Why not just take a regular photo? You’re just making the hilariously bad faces on the thumbnails look stupider) I don’t know what his goal is anymore, and MORE AND MORE, it’s so blatant that he just wants views.
I’m heavily convinced it’s just the views, and he’s not even trying to send a decent morality anymore. People love watching Mikey suffer. So if Mikey suffers, people will watch it.
Political video? Even if it’s bad representation? Boom. Views.
Just describe the scenario in the most descriptive, EXTREME, and off the wall way possible, and a sixteen million people are GUARANTEED to watch it.
I know, I’m only helping him since I have to sit through these videos to make these posts, but views ain’t everything guys. Subscriptions ain’t everything.
Especially with stuff like this, people’s mental health and well being is more important than getting followers. Admitting when you make a mistake and apologizing, and acknowledging you’re a person, is more important than playing the rich and famous ‘I can’t do anything wrong’ card.
I only have 40 followers on this blog, as of the time of this post. So I have WAY less subscriptions than Dhar Mann does. But someone messaged me awhile back, and thanked me for my existence, thanking me for making these posts and calling out these videos. It was just ONE person, and yet that made my day.
To quote @womanofwords
“ Hi. I just wanted to express my gratitude for your existence. I don't normally see people critiquing Dhar Mann videos (AFAIK, you and @mellometal are the only ones that make posts like this) and exposing them as the problematic garbage that it truly is. You don't need to reply to this at all; this is just to say thank you for your service. “
You know what this tells me? Besides proving my point here? Even if it’s just forty people, or ten, or ONE, I’m making a difference from what I do, that it’s worth it to make not just these sorts of posts, but other content as well, like my drawings, my fics, my writings, my essays, and a ton of other stuff.
Now, for the record, I might as well get this out there: I do want to make more essay posts in the future, on content that I actually enjoy. So you might not see me making as many Dhar Mann posts as I did before. I’ll still do them, just expect other stuff from me. If you guys have any of his videos you want me to cover, message me, and I’ll think about it.
I can’t promise any of this, because of that time of the year where you’re so busy you get no sleep. If I need to step out to take care of myself, I won’t hesitate to do so.

#Repost @nysmallfarma ・・・ Happy Presidents Day NY, I know we are preaching to the choir but just in case there is anyone out there who has not found their hymnal just yet.... Potency has somewhat to do with THC but it is far from the whole story. The terpenes present, which ones, in what amount, and in what ratio has a whole lot to do with it as well. There are over 400 chemicals in a cannabis plant and more than 100 are cannabinoids. THC is 1 of them. One. One. THC is a snapshot of what is present in cannabis from a chemical perspective. THC percentage has nothing to do with the quality of your weed, and is also a poor indicator of potency. If that were not problematic enough, the current potency tax is based on weight. WEIGHT! There are no regulations when it comes to testing THC in labs and results can vary widely. Most importantly it continues to perpetuate lies about this plant. To focus solely on THC content not only does not guarantee a better high, but it robs the consumer of the full, well-rounded experience that different types of cannabis can offer. Allowing this tax to stand will kill the industry, mislead the consumer, and continue propaganda about this divine plant. Senator Cooney's bill S4831 fixes this wrong. It removes potency tax and utilizes a more realistic excise tax to support the Cannabis Reinvestment Fund. Go to the link in our bio and click Aye in support of this bill and better yet, call your local Senator and Assemblymember and tell them to support it as well! Thank you Senator Cooney. #shinebrightasyou #bethesunshine #sungrownregenerativecannabis #nysungrownregenerative #itsallabouttheterps (at Washington Heights) https://www.instagram.com/p/Co47pvbOEHT/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Hi, I saw your post about ao3 so I figured that you may know more about this than I do. I'm a bit conflicted about continuing to use and support it, cause I keep seeing people say that the creators of it are pedos? And that we shouldn't support them, but I haven't been able to find any evidence for this. So I just wanted to know if you have any ideas about this because I don't. Thank you.
Alright buckle in as I yeet myself into the inferno
The people calling the creators of AO3 pedos are basically toddlers stomping their feet because the siterunners aren't engaging in censorship at their demand. AO3 hosts content that depicts pedophilic relationships, and the only time they step in is if a work hasn't been tagged with warnings properly.
The toddlers are cranky about this because they don't think they should be responsible for their own internet experience, and they think they ought to be allowed to dictate what people can and cannot read/write. So they make attacks against the PEOPLE who run AO3 because they know it's much harder to disprove those sorts of accusations than it is to do any real work on their own internet experience.
Here's the thing: these people who don't like that AO3 doesn't censor content? They could run their own archive! AO3's parent organization, the Organization for Transformative Works (OTW), has made the code that AO3 is based on completely available to the public!! That's the tagging system, the site skins, everything. But the angry anti toddlers don't want to have to spend money and work to build their own sandbox, they want to be the tyrant in OTW's, stomping around destroying people's sand castles.
So essentially these are purity police who think that anyone who creates or consumes content that is problematic are instantly monsters. This is a failure of critical thinking. Real adults are able to tell the difference between fiction and reality, and can enjoy something fictional without enacting it in reality.
Now if you're thinking "well idk why AO3 wouldn't want to ban pedophilic works" let me put this little thought exercise down for you: Say AO3 does make said content a bannable offense. What's to prevent antis from abusing the reporting system to go on personally motivated crusades against specific authors, or specific tropes? What's to prevent homophobic fans (and I guarantee they exist) from using that reporting system to brigade against all slash fic?
The Archive and the OTW would either have to create a bot that would probably not work very well to evaluate these reports, or they would have to find scads of volunteers who would be willing and able to slog through every report sent to the system.
I'm not very good at coming to conclusions but essentially this boils down to "don't like, don't read" (aka MIND YOUR BUSINESS) and "the back button exists for a reason, as well as every warning the archive allows authors to use." If you have another question and you don't mind the way I answered this one, please feel free to ask!

The Exaggeration of Problematic Ships
Tumblr media
WARNING: Mention of Abuse, Death Threats
Hello! In this post, I will explain my point of view on this whole thing about “problematic ships”.
The reason why I decided to discuss about this kind of subject is because I’m completely tired of seeing people throwing hate and bullying other people over something so harmless.
By the way, excuse me if there will be any grammar mistakes.
First of all, I will explain what “problematic ship”, “pro ship” and what “anti” means
“Problematic ship” means a ship between two or more fictional characters, regardless if they’re abusive, age-gapped, blood-related, or just considered wrong in general. (examples of proships: Sebastian x Ciel, Hisoka x Gon, Endeavor x Todoroki, Bakugo x Deku, Illumi x Killua, etc)
“Pro ship” means to believe it’s completely fine for people to ship whatever they want, even if it’s a problematic ship.
“Anti" means to be against pro shippers.
Now, I will explain why being a pro shipper is completely normal and deserve respect just like all of us.
Never compare fiction with reality. It’s dumb and makes no sense when you compare these two different things in a case like this.
A problematic ship would be bad in real life because it does harm someone. Though, in fiction, nobody gets hurt.
We can do whatever the hell we want in fictional world and no one can tell us what to do, and that’s the beauty of it. We can do whatever we want without caring about anyone else. Telling someone to stop fantasizing about something just because you find it wrong is pointless and dumb
Fiction doesn’t affect reality. At least, not in the way to be considered as dangerous. It’s silly to blame a video game for a person’s actions, the game has no fault. An adult is completely aware of what they are doing, so they should know that any action they take has consequences they must consider. If it’s a child or a minor, then it’s the parents’ fault for not checking up on them and not taking enough care of them.
I understand that it may trigger you and may be a sensitive topic, but it’s not our problem. I don’t want to sound rude, but it’s honestly not our problem. We can create, post, and discuss about whatever we want as long as it’s not harming anyone directly. If it makes you uncomfortable, just block us. It is not up to us to create content that you find enjoyable or at least decent. It’s our posts, our accounts, our lives. We don’t hurt you on purpose.
Don’t say “but it teaches children to behave badly because they saw in a fanfiction it’s okay to be abusive or be fondled by adults!” just no. As I said, the parents should be more responsible with their children and check up on them whenever possible (not as in “spying your child every time you’ve got the opportunity” but you get my point). Also, if you really need to believe that everything displayed in fanfictions is normal/healthy, then you should get proper education.
I am myself a pro shipper, and while I’m not that hardcore of a fan, I still had previous experiences with angry and frustrated antis.
I know it will make me seem like I’m complaining or anything, but this will be an easier way I can guarantee you that people like these exist, since it was in my own experience.
I once wrote a fanfiction that implied pro shipping. I did put warnings in the description and before the story began, but I see that it was useless because people prefer to get triggered and shocked than read the description and pay attention to the warning so they can insult the living shit out of me later on. The next day, I woke up with 20+ hate comments and death threats in the comments.
All of them were horrible, it made me feel like shit and made me wonder why people are like that. Luckily, after a hour or two, I calmed down and realized that I shouldn’t stress on people like these so much. I should take this bad experience and make it something good to teach other people, something that I can give to other people so they can learn from my experience. I was stronger than before. (as cringe as it sounds lol)
At that moment, I realized that people like that barely even care about the real “issue” here. They only see it as a chance to bully someone without looking bad in front of other people. They are so sucked up in their own mind that they think what they’re doing is right.
People like that are the worst. Their morality is corrupted.
Because, their morals is like: it’s not okay to write things like that, but it’s okay to send death threats and bully them”
Don’t get me wrong, it’s completely fine to dislike a ship! I dislike some ships too, but that doesn’t give me the right to go and jump on them like a wild animal.
Not all antis are mean, but most of them are like that. It’s okay to not like something, but don’t make a mess out of it.
Now here are a few examples of frustrated and crazy antis.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hell, they are so annoying when they put heart emojis at the end of their comment so they can make themselves look quirky and cool. Disgusting, that’s all I have to say about this kind of people.
If you really believe someone is doing something wrong, approach them in a gentle manner and talk respectfully towards them.
I’m sorry if I sounded rude in this post, and remember that you should look in other perspectives too, not in only yours. Even if someone does something wrong (but pro shipping is not the case), then explain to them what they’re doing wrong, not fuck them up.
Thank you for taking your time to read this.
If you have any questions, just comment on this post or message me privately.
(Yes, I edited this post because I have mistaken the difference between “problematic ship” and “pro ship” and fixed a few typos. Don’t worry, my points in this post are still the same and I fully mean them.”

ok so this might come off as a bit rambly so please bear with me lol
i've noticed that the acotar fandom has this incessant need to be right when it comes to canon and it really sucks out the funness of fandom. shipping is supposed to be fun but when it comes to this fandom, it's almost like a competition to see who will be more right when the books come out. engaging with theories/predictions about characters and the plot is supposed to be exciting but when it comes to this fandom, some of the theories/predictions are problematic at worst and nonsensical at best. like how can you say with your full chest that you're so confident about where the series is heading in the future because of this or that theory when you're stuck in the past and refuse to see what all of the text is telling you in the present. it doesn't make sense. the selective reading is so strong that it has me looking sideways sometimes lol
i guess my question is why do you think the fandom is so divided when it comes to ships right now? i've seen people say this wasn't the case for feysand and nessian, so what's the difference here?
Oh boy Brielle, I have some thoughts on this. It's complex.
To be clear, I am not saying that this applies to literally every single person who ships a certain way. This is a commentary on the fandom as a whole, and there are always exceptions.
This got really, really long, so I'm putting it under the cut.
I think that one of the main draws of this series, and of sjm's writing in general, is her ships. I think that people get very, very attached to their ships.
I also think that sjm does NOT fully think through some of the choices that she makes when writing. See: the way that she takes from all these different cultures and mashes them together, which could be seen as disrespectful of their origin. She has retconned things, like Mor being queer and Lucien being Helion's son. I think that she thoroughly thinks about some of the aspects of her books, like Rhys's reaction to sleeping with Feyre for the first time, but then really half-asses other aspects of her books, like Mor coming out.
Then, we have your good old misogyny and homophobia - people in the fandom don't like Mor because she hurt the poor bat boy's feelings when she didn't sleep with him, and they don't have a mating bond, but she's never really told Azriel "no", and so every single moment of pain that Azriel has felt in 500 years is Morrigan's fault. And Mor's experience as a closeted queer woman who feels unsafe around the people she should trust the most is completely disregarded by the fandom.
Finally, I think that a combination of these factors has created the monster we know as e*riel, and that the fandom is perpetuating its own mythology.
What all of this comes down to, and the real reason I think that the fandom is behaving this way right now, is that e*riel is dead. It's never happened, it's not going to happen, but because we don't have the clear closure we got with moriel (where people would be accused of homophobia for continuing to ship it), people are still trying to figure out any possible way for e*riel to become canon, though every single sign points to it being a non-issue.
This weird thing where people have to be "right" all the time, and the way that "right" = "canon" is a relatively new development. It's as if everyone in this fandom forgot that they are in fact in a fandom, which inherently diverges from canon.
However, I think that the need to cling to canon is because the alternative would be to admit defeat and say "well, even if it doesn't happen I will still ship e*riel, it's fine, I will live with that." But they don't want to do that. In response, they look at canon so hard that they are reading the white space between the letters to create their theories, which as you noted as largely nonsensical and often fail to take into account who the characters are as individuals, how they are connected to other characters, and why it would or wouldn't be appropriate for them to be involved in various plots.
People could say, as eluciens having been saying since day one, "I really ship this thing but I can see that it might not become canon". But they don't say that. They literally refuse to see any other possibility than e*riel becoming canon.
You pointed out that people are stuck in the past - absolutely. The number of reimaginings I have seen of scenes where either Azriel or Elain has literally zero to do with the scene, but people try to shove one or both of them in there. And this from books ago. People are stuck on the Truthteller scene, and refuse to acknowledge that neither of them have acted on their feelings, whatever those might be, for years. And they ignore the fact that once Elain and Az do act, it goes horribly wrong.
Here are the facts as of right now:
ACOSF is the most recent book. In that book, sans extra chapter, those two had no interaction other than looking at one another.
If we include his POV, then he said it was wrong, we got confirmation that nothing has ever happened between them, she returned his necklace. Elain was aroused, but that does not mean she was ready to even have sex. "Yes" to a kiss is not "yes" to every single sexual act Az can think of. They parted on awkward, bad terms after a scene in which it seemed like they were about to start something. Yikes. Unlike Wings and Embers, they did not end that chapter still thinking of one another. After they part ways, the omniscient narrator does not mention Elain, or Az thinking about Elain, again.
His POV occurs months before the end of the book. They do not interact after that.
Elain has a mate she has not rejected, nor accepted.
So anyway, your question was why are people like this. lol. I think the fandom created a monster, and that monster is clinging to life. It can't accept the idea of morphing into a non-canon ship, though it never was canon in the first place. It had just convinced itself that it was.
There are other aspects to this, that have to do with gwynriel and elucien.
Gwynriel is a new ship, it's almost guaranteed to happen, people are super excited to ship it and give Gwyn all their love. I'm sure they would rather create content for that ship than argue about whether or not it's going to be canon, but they are in constant defense mode. Some people honestly didn't like e*riel before because they don't like Elain, or because they don't like Azriel, and those are valid reasons for not liking it. Why people ship gwynriel doesn't matter. The tone of the discussion is, unfortunately, being shaped elsewhere, which I will mention below.
Elucien is an old ship, older than e*riel. I can speak from this perspective - personally, I have been holding my tongue for 4.5 years. I have been letting people live, and just talking about the things I like. Then when acosf came out, it was like I could finally say all the things I had been thinking about Azriel, because I now had proof that the things I thought about his character (and because of that, about e*riel) now had solid canon foundation. This is 4.5 years of me holding in a lot of shit and finally being able to say it. Sometimes yes, I might take joy in having been right.
I think that a few people are clinging to canon, and that sets the tone for the discourse in the fandom. Someone says "according to page whatever, blah blah blah" and people feel the need to respond, and then it turns into and "I'm right" contest instead of... a fandom... A lot of us like debating. To me, it's fun. But when Person A starts a conversation that's about canon and it actually ignores canon, it's hard to let that conversation go by and just keep creating whatever we want to create. Instead, we respond, and so the tone of the conversation is shaped by what Person A decided to say.
I also think that there is a lack of distinction between theories (what will happen in the future) and meta (analysis of what we have now).
There is also a lack of "I" statements. Opinions are being stated as fact.
idk if there is a way to make it better, other than to just go back to ignoring one another. This whole situation makes me want to throw out every single canon ship I like and create exclusively non-canon content, just for spite. Except I really like doing meta, and so I don't want to. I guess for my point, I'll just keep doing meta, keep creating different content, and keep reminding people that they aren't here to continue perpetuating canon, but to play with it.

⚠️ warning this post contains adult themes - do not read or engage if a minor ⚠️
To the anon who keeps telling me I'm being groomed - I hope you know my only two major online friends are @jenniferdiazisatransgirl and a spn blogger like 4 years younger than me.
I am also a while-ass adult with a degree in communication and social psychology, a full time job, a girlfriend, a dog, a car and irl friends.
Listen, I appreciate that you're coming from a good place, but have you ever thought maybe you're wrong? I'm not brainwashed, all of my arguments are backed by actual evidence, that I have listed. I haven't seen you attempt to refute one point I made. Instead you throw the straw man argument of paedophilia at me.
I never said I supported shipping minor characters with adult characters. I said I was against censorship on the internet. I said that a lot of the things people say is paedophilia on tumblr is not. I've seen people called paedophiles for:
Shipping a 19 year old with a 29 year old
Shipping a 16 year old with an 18 year old
Shipping a 20-something woman who looks young with someone the same age as her.
Shipping two 12 year olds together
This. Is. Not. Paedophilia. Is it morally wrong? I won't comment! You decide! That's not what's fucking important. If I see someone talking about being a "map" or a pedo? Blocked and reported. But let's be real, most of the pro censorship gang is only in it to feel morally superior about ship wars.
I've said it once, I'll say it again, I'll say it a thousand times: the argument isn't about paedophilia. It's not about abuse, it's not about incest, it's not about racism, or anything else the censorship mob likes to trot out. It's about whether or not censorship in online spaces should be allowed.
When someone tries to bring up the actual conversation, y'all shut up real fast. Because there is no logic behind your arguments. There is no evidence that any of this shit is actually damaging, there is no actual reason why well-tagged "squick" should be banned. The censorship gang stems from a knee-jerk reaction to uncomfortable topics, and the guilt free ability to bully people on the internet when you are morally superior to them.
I guarantee I'll get people coming back at me saying the same shit you did "you see a paedophile and think that's acceptable you're delusional". No. I see a paedophile and I block and report the blog. I have explicitly fucking stated that. Problem is, you don't actually have any real arguments against me, just the cult-like repetition of a straw-man argument.
Who's the one brainwashed again?
And here's another thing: do you campaign to get lolita banned? What about game of thrones? Shouldn't you be fighting to get GRRM locked up? I mean if writing problematic content means you want to do that, Georgie boy is the trifector of abuser, incest-committer, and paedophile. What about the creators of the show? The actors? Should Iwan Rheon be sentenced as a rapist? I mean, he was in misfits as well - another show that should be banned! Really he must like to explore problematic material, he must be problematic!
And if you aren't campaigning for these pieces of content to be banned then why the fuck do you believe small time fans should be censored? You really think Jane Normal writing a reylo fic has more of an impact than Lucasfilm having them kiss on screen???
That's some hardcore, mass scale cognitive dissonance right there! That or you're just a literal hypocrite.
I will not be responding to any subsequent anon asks about this topic. If you or anyone else sends me one, I will delete without reading. You want to argue with me? Do it off anon.

(TW: mentions of pedophilia and good old 'antis being antis'.)
Honestly, incest is the lesser of two evils when it comes to proshipping, (the other being justified romanticizing/sexualization of minors, for the love of God please don't tell me you believe that's ok as well...) but It would still be looked down upon if someone found it on your computer/phone, so I recommend deleting any traces of it and turning a new leaf before it gets you or someone else fired from their job...
Yeah shipping incest doesn't hurt anyone directly. Not every slasher fan is gonna become a serial killer, so not every pro shipper will become a molester. (I know antis can be rough but some of em are being kinda unrealistic for believing stuff like that.)
And yeah, the characters portrayed in these illegal scenarios ain't real, but encouraging it, and other people to ship 'problematic' content is gonna do a shit ton of damage to people's lives if word about that side to them spread.
This is why I'm concerned about it on this site, sure, thinking two brothers should bone won't end the world, but if proshippers continue to push that there is nothing about their actions to be frowned upon, people are gonna end up behind bars for distributing child porn.
I saw a case of it yesterday, someone was hella concerned that the authorities would find their nsfw art of a character that is a canon minor. My brother in Christ, if you didn't want to go to jail for making and distributing pornogrophy of a minor you shouldn't have done it in the first place.
Buuut who am I to think about the future anyway? Most proshippers are a bunch of kids who were left on their mom's iPads too long who won't care about the consequences until it hits them like a wet fish in a few years, I just hope the point I'm making gets through the thick skulls of a few before that happens.

*Emmet whispers to Ingo* ...It isn't illegal. Sure, we'd lose a couple friends if someone found out, but it's not on the level of pedophilia or murder nsfw.
Aaaaand it's not real. It's cartoons. People can draw cartoons of just about anything...rape, murder, cannibalism, just so long as it's not Muhammad it won't get them killed. Personally, I'm comfortable with myself and my idiosyncrasies, so if anybody found this kind of thing on my phone irl, I'd guarantee that there'd be a room full of uncomfortable people, and the only one who wouldn't be.....would be me.
BTW....blankshipping doesn't automatically have to be seen as dirty. Maybe they are asexual life partners. Maybe they just like to give each other backrubs. If they're autistic, maybe they like to stim by licking each others ears. People draw them in bed together. Maybe they're just like an old married couple who do everything but that one thing that old married couples don't bother with anymore. -But if people want to imagine them like two rabid obstagoons in the sack, that's perfectly okay too. Chill. Damn...

If you could make a trigger warning list for Tsukihime, what would be on it? There's a lot of people who are just getting interested in it with the remake (myself included) and I think having a tw list would be a really nice thing for those getting in now. If you can't remember every scene, a general list is good enough!
Oh boy.
Ohhhhhhhh boyyyyyyyyy.
Alright. So. A little bit of explanation: there's a reason why Nasu actually wants to remake this game. Tsukihime is by miles his darkest and most brutal work, and a lot of it is completely unnecessary edginess made by poor and almost literally starving Nasu and Takeuchi. Kara No Kyoukai wasn't exactly making waves, and the two were living on cup noodles and working other jobs to keep themselves afloat. To finish the VN Takeuchi even made Nasu quit his job and worked two in his stead (biking home in-between said jobs to do art) just so Nasu would have time to write. The nastiness of what they felt at the time is everywhere in the script, and it speaks to Nasu's talent that what came out wasn't complete edgelord garbage.
Did you ever read the original Fate/Stay Night? Did you get taken abrupt when Illya and Berserker first attack Shirou, Rin, and Saber, and Illya orders Berserker to behead Saber and rape the corpse so that Saber would rather die than continue to regenerate and fight? Did you think that kinda came out of nowhere and was unnecessary? The Realta Nua rerelease didn't just remove all the bad sex scenes, they removed lines like those entirely.
Tsukihime has waaaaaaaay more of that, and unlike Fate/Stay Night it couldn't easily edit all of them out and get rereleased without changing the story. It needed to be rebuilt from the ground up.
Personally, I've been so excited for the remake because Nasu has expressed regret before on how misogynistic his writing was before. Specifically he was asked in an interview about his focus on female characters in his works and he something like "I've been told before 'Nasu respects womens rights' because of all the powerful girls in my works, but looking back I can clearly see my own prejudices" especially singling out how Shirou treated Saber in the Fate route and how Tohno Shiki needed to get uppercut by Arcueid. I'm far more excited to see how Nasu will approach Tsukihime with that hindsight in mind more than I am about the visual and music upgrades the VN will get. I don't think Nasu wants to (or even should) remove all the problematic content of the original Tsukihime as this IS a work of horror, but a lot of editing would greatly improve the script.
Releasing Tsukihime R on PS4 isn't just a message of a console release, it's a sign that things will be different this time due to Sony's strict rules (that do not apply to its first party games apparently).
With that being said, a general trigger warning list from memory:
1.) There is a LOT of rape and sexual assault. Mentions of the act, internal narration from characters witnessing or attempting to find someone to rape, Shiki can straight up rape two of the girls on two seperate routes if he makes the wrong choice (he will be killed the day after). There's also a line where Shiki tells Ciel that if she doesn't do what he says, he'll rape her. The context there is that he's extremely weak and she can snap him like a twig so he just shouts the most hurtful thing he can think of, but it's still dumb. If I remember correctly, there's a choice that makes Shiki sexually assault Hisui and it DOESNT lead to a dead end, with most guides recommending that choice to get the CGs. I got annoyed and that's when I made my own guide for the route.
2.) Unknown to Shiki, his family's bloodline carries a powerful violent impulse to kill any non-human they see, strong enough to temporarily take over their wills and delight in murder by conflating it with sexual pleasure. The first time Shiki sees Arcueid, he falls into a trance and stalks her back home before brutally cutting her up into 17 pieces and experiences multiple orgasms while doing so. He then comes to his senses and starts vomiting and crying from what he just did and the shame of how much he enjoyed doing it. They're not taking this scene out (It's in the remake PV) but I'm preeeettyyyy sure Shiki's narration won't suddenly talk about how much his dick is loving this.
3.) Incest. Akiha is Shiki's sister. She's also a romantic interest. Technically they're adopted so it's not incest and they haven't seen each other in 8 years so it's not like they grew up together the whole time, but any tine you got to say "technically it's not incest", it's not great. I heavily doubt this is getting removed from the Remake as it's, you know, a whole route. On the other hand, Akiha has a biological brother, and he is creepy about her so that's 100% guaranteed ick right there, but fortunately he never goes far enough that you can tell if he's a sicko or if he's just really possessive of his sister.
4.) Kohaku's backstory. Koha-Ace once joked that this is the true reason the Remake took so long. It forms the backbone of Tsukihime and one of the main threads that ties everything together, but also Kohaku is the middle link between Fujino and Sakura. You can guess what that means.
5.) Heavy gaslighting, heavier drugs. Both Shiki's past and his present in the far side routes involve an almost hilarious relationship to the truth. Everyfuckingbody is lying to Shiki, and his father literally gaslights him with magic by using hypnosis to conveniently erase some traumatic memories that the old man is responsible for and replace them with falsehoods. Shiki nonchalantly talks about his terrible memory when it comes to his childhood throughout the VN, but the actual reason for that is that he got gaslit to hell and back. In the present, Shiki gets drugged out of his mind by someone in his house, and experiences long and detailed hallucinations, all the while being told by his family that nothing is going on. It becomes difficult to tell what's really going on; if he's really walking around town or if he's in bed babbling at the ceiling. It is terrifying and is a part of what gives the Far Side routes great psychological horror, but it still deserves a TW.
6.) Suicide. At least one character kills themselves onscreen.
7.) Torture. In the Ciel route, Roa tortures someone by repeatedly and slowly stabbing blades into them while Shiki is forced to watch. It goes on for a while.
8.) Grooming. This particular bit isn't a part of the Tsukihime VN itself, but more of a fandom joke thanks to Carnival Phantasm. A big part of Shiki's backstory is meeting the mage Aozaki Aoko as an 8 year old and her teaching him about life in the short time they have together. Due to Shiki's nature he almost certainly would have become an evil person, but meeting Aoko instilled a moral compass in him that is the only thing he has to fight his impulses, which is why Shiki loves his sensei so dearly. Melty Blood later made a joke that Aoko is mad she never got a route in Tsukihime, and Carnival Phantasm later had a whole scene stating the real reason Aoko cared for Shiki was that she was grooming him to be her boyfriend as soon as he turned of age. It's super gross and a perversion of what is literally the sole wholesome relationship Shiki has and the only reason there is any good in him at all. I really fucking hate this joke among all others in the Tsukihime fandom.

i can tell who your tog anon is by the content of your last post. so could anyone in tog fandom who’s had the misfortune to live through the top/bottom disk horse that’s been running off and on since this time last year. those of us who arent part of the debate are tired of it. we just want them all, on either side, to stop
it’s not about racism. it’s about a bunch of people seeing kinky stuff that isn’t tailored to their kinks, taking offense as loudly as they can, and then trying to control the fandom narrative by being assholes to anyone who doesn’t agree with them. lgbtmazight was one of your anon’s backers and abettors. they and theirs have made a lot of people unhappy and scared, poc and MENA people included, so i’m not surprised that now the tables are turning they’re feeling a bit worried. they started this shitshow. without them and their friends, the tog fandom would not now be the trashfire it is
i’m aroace. most fic is written by allo and amatonormative people for allo and amatonormative people, and i deal with that every time i go looking for fic on ao3. a lot of fic, explicit and not, is repulsive to me in ways that would never occur to anyone not aspec. i accept that, and i don’t expect any writer to accommodate me for things that would never occur to them and would also be completely contradictory to their own needs. if i click on something that offends me or makes me feel sick i take responsibility for my own experiences and click back out
problematic content exists. so do tags. it’s pretty easy to avoid the content you don’t want see, these days, if you pay attention. and sure, there are racist fics written for tog. there are racist fics on the top!Joe side of things. there are a number of them on the bottom!Joe side as well, and some others that are neither. on the whole, though, there isn’t a huge amount. certainly not as much as one sector of the fandom would like everyone to believe
the person you’re talking to is one of the main bottom!Joe stans. they don’t seem to comprehend that there are people who write a specific character topping because they’re their fave and they identify with them, and they are themselves tops. the discoursers make it all about supposed straight cis women wanting to write a gay couple the same way they would a straight couple. of them wanting to write the partner they identify with on bottom, because of course they are straight cis women and of course the “receiving” partner must be who they identify with. which is a very binary, very ignorant way of viewing the matter
in addition to being aroace i’m afab enby. i’m trans, i’m queer in all senses of the word, i’m kinky as hell in some very weird ways, and i’m an exclusive top. it’s safe to say that i have very different wants and needs from my fic reading and writing than pretty much the entirety of tog fandom, especially given that there are only three tog fics aside from my own that i haven’t backbuttoned out of. i also identify with Joe, so even though it’s not guaranteed that i’ll write him topping since i hc both him and Nicky as vers, there’s a good chance he will top, no matter whose pov i’m writing from. i’m not going to change my tastes; i’m old enough to understand them and be comfortable with that side of myself. i’m not going to apologize for it, either. i don’t know because i don’t interact much within the fandom, but there are probably a lot of people who feel this way. people who are fed up with /both/ the bottom!Joe and the top!Joe stans
i will say, though, that the bottom!Joe side of the fandom has been colonized by Len and her clique, and they’re where most of the toxicity originated. i’m sure your anon saw many people reblogging the call-out post from you and rushed over to your asks to try to do damage control as best they could, as they have with many other blogs in the past. from what i’ve observed, they harass via anon, they don’t act in good faith, and i sincerely hope you don’t become one of their next targets. i’ve been unpleasantly surprised to see the discourse trickling over into blogs i follow that i’d thought were exempt; i admit i’ll be sad if yours becomes the next platform to be absorbed into it
--
Oh, nonnie, when is my tumblr not consumed by discourse?
Don't worry, once I watch the Sarah Z video and post what I think, she'll probably start vaguing about me and then my inbox will be full of Sarah stans screaming at me again instead of TOG anons. Haha.
You could be right about exactly who this anon is. (I wouldn't know. I just read the fic in this fandom. I don't socialize over it usually.) You could be right about their motivations. That's certainly the read I got from their first messages to me. But IDK... I profoundly disagree with their analysis, but I don't think you should discount the possibility that they're some rando lurker you've never heard of and that they're operating in good faith. They don't need to be intentionally misrepresenting things for me to disagree with them.

Being in fandoms for so long yourself, do you have any tips on how to approach fandom in general? It can be so overwhelming sometimes!
Honestly avoid fandom as much as possible. 'Tis a silly place.
Tumblr media
On a more serious note, I DO have a draft on staying sane on social media I’ve been slowly making. The main points are about knowing how your social media sites work in regards to tags, searches, cuts, filters, blocks, and mutes, and being liberal with using them for whatever reason you need. In general for this post: limit following counts and be picky about who you follow and why--don't just “follow back” because. Don’t sit in Discords that make you uncomfortable and keep utility servers to those channels needed and mute/hide the rest. I should get around to the rest eventually.
I maintain that sticking to what you love and with friends is better than trying to interact with “the fandom” at large. Especially as a property gets well known and a larger following, the vocal negative 1% seems to get louder and tiresome quickly. Protect yourself and your pals and enjoy what you wish, minimizing stress and drama and hurting real people over what’s supposed to be a shared interest of pretend characters and stories. More specifics of that below.
Limiting myself to some friends and branching off their recommendations, getting to know folks before hopping into servers or groups, helps a lot. I don’t have to engage with the entire fandom. I tend to hear about random dramas in passing, like a shadow underwater, because I interact with chill folks more interested in simply enjoying an interest, not in making it their entire life and identity and so having to be right or chase clout or whatever over a pretend world and make-believe characters, even if resonates with us.
Don't give too much of yourself away. Don't tell people all the ways to trigger you, or your vulnerabilities. Don't give away locations. Use basic internet safety and anonymity to keep folks at arms’ length as much as needed. You're not obligated to answer every DM, right away or ever. You can make some dear friends through fandom, but a single shared interest is not a guaranteed safe and healthy basis of relationships.
Focus on what you love, ignore what you don't. Yes, you want a healthy level of objectivity and criticism and sometimes you need to vent but overall, fandom experience is much better if you're actually enjoying the things you engage with. Don't force yourself to put up with things you don’t have fun with, but also let others have their fun (even if you don’t think that it is fun, if it isn’t harming other real people and dragging them down it’s fine even if you don’t get it). This can include leaving that fandom when the base material is no longer fun for you, leading to...
Remember that you don't own the characters and story; it's someone else's world, we just play in it. The creators are going to make choices and changes, some good and some bad; learn to accept that and keep fanon separate from canon. Interactions with creators via social media are also usually very surface level and parasocial; just because they make part of themselves visible and accessible, doesn't mean you know them, are friends, or are owed anything by their social presence.
Other fans have other takes; you may not like them, but they're valid. Sometimes those other ideas too can make you rethink or add to your own, make you realize some things you hadn’t considered due to a blindspot in your own experiences, and add to your understanding of characters and story arcs. So be open to others’ ideas. Find those of a like mind more or less and stick with ‘em.
Don’t let fandom ruin a thing for you. If you find yourself surrounded by a lot of negative opinions, especially about something you enjoy, you can speak up if comfortable, but if not, simply stop following/interacting. I cull my following lists regularly, and a lot of times remove people who tend to be negative about things too often for my taste. Their blog/timeline/whatever but I don’t have to interact with it. If I find my enjoyment of a thing souring, I ask myself if it’s due to the actual story/characters/how the creators act, or if it’s due to the corner of fandom I’m in and if I have to clean up and then see how I feel about the thing.
Don't assume the worst of people. I often make myself stop and reread what someone said, slowly and even out loud if I must, to make sure I understood. Go back some posts/threads/pages for context if needed. Some people are just bad at communicating. They may be ignorant of even the most basic of modern social manners, internet etiquette, and so on. English may not be their first language. I tend to assume unintentional oopses until someone makes it crystal clear they mean harm--it's generally easy to tell. Let things roll off your back; they don't know you, really, just the persona you present online. You don't know them and their issues, either, just what little you see. It's usually not worth the hassle and heartache to do more than eye-roll and move on with life.
Others won’t censor/remove everything you personally find a squick or trigger, but do advocate for proper tags, warnings, and hiding the content. Learn to skip past the crap you dislike to find the things you do; you do not have to read or view or comment or like everything. There's only so many hours in a day, and not everything is your taste.
My personal annoyance usually come from how people who engage with questionable content react to other fans being upset, especially when they didn’t take the proper precautions to warn/hide their content based on the site. Anyone who then revels in their “problematic” status and starts making their dark content “to spite antis” has lost sight of why they wanted to make that content to begin with and are acting like brats, IMO. Especially a waste when it can be well written/drawn, even if out of my own comfort area. Don’t do things for spite if you can help it; sometimes it leads to interesting things, but a lot of times, it ends up hollow and a regret down the road.
There’s likely more to this, but these are some general rules I’ve been trying to follow as I get older and realize a lot of time and emotional labor over fiction isn’t worth stress and negativity, but should be relaxing and fun, as the real world is difficult enough. Have fun and make things fun and positive for others when possible, don’t tear others down for the sake of it. Fandom is meant to be a shared interest and love of a thing, after all.

a lot of people have very logically and understandably suggested turning anon asks off, and i realize it would help minimize the harassment, but the thing is, i also get a ton of really nice anons! and as a terminally shy person i understand the wish to comment anonymously, even if the thing you want to say is nice and positive. nice anons who share little ideas or leave funny (but kind) comments are my favourite :(
mcsiggy:
someone did this to me a few days ago right after i made a post saying i was happy you liked my art, and like, i was incredibly offended they sent me that, especially since i've been following you for literal years, so like, i'm ready to just tell people to shut up. ty for sticking to your guns but also being an inspiration
uuuuuugh that is so fucking scummy of them, i’m so sorry. that stuff is what really bothers and angers me about this - most of the hate messages that are sent to me i can ignore and they don’t get to me that much, but when people A) bother completely unrelated people with this shit, and B) go around spreading outright lies about me? that upsets and pisses me off. thank you so much for telling that person off, that's super sweet of you and makes me really happy ;;w;;
nucleoplasmic:
lol the funniest thing is they're all "oh no but the art was so good its a shame"... buddy, pal, even if they dont have "antis dni" in their bio, most adult artists (and by extension skilled artists) with half a mind do not give a shit what people ship, and certainly do not condone harassment over fictional characters. if they keep driving artists off their platform there will come a time when fan content just stops being made there.
lmao yep, not to mention that the anti-shipper mindset is pretty much completely restricted to western fandoms (and mostly english-speaking fandoms), so any and all asian/east-asian artists whose art they like? i can guarantee that like 99% of them have either drawn some “gross and problematic” stuff themselves or just think that equating fiction with one’s morals and harassing people over what they like/consume/create is ridiculous as all fucking hell.
...honestly, while i understand perfectly well people not wanting to get involved with this garbage, i still do wish content creators (especially the really big and popular ones, and the ones that only or mainly create "non-problematic” content) in fandom were a little more vocal about being against harassment. no one needs to label themselves as anything or explicitly “pick sides”, but just saying “don’t harass people over what fiction they like or create or consume, no exceptions” would do a lot, and maybe antis would start to realize that the majority of fan creators don’t agree with them, and that if they really want to rid all fandoms of “problematic” people, that would mean having to get rid of all of their favourites as well.
demonesskneesocks:
"this person is a p*do" "oh wow, I will definitely not look up for myself and rely on the opinion of a complete stranger anon"
exactly T_T like if someone i know really well and trust a lot informed me that someone i follow is a pedophile, i would STILL want to see proof of it for myself, and the fact that some people completely uncritically accept whatever some random anon tells them is...it’s infuriating and second-hand embarrassing

Another data fight down, took a break on Xigbar because he's a stupid goofball I don't wanna deal with yet. Overall I'm pretty happy with this run outside of the few impulsive guards and mashes I had.
I know KH Tumblr is more on the casual side but considering there is like *no* try hard content I'll try to appeal to the absolute lack of demand or just show the more normal players some cool stuff. That being said I wanna explain how Vanitas works a tiny bit.
Sort of Vanitas guide?
If you hate having to react in fighting games, you'll hate Vanitas.
This guy is "think fast" personified. He has many attacks that are just barely reactable which are made with the sole intention of mixing you up so you'll impulsively block or mash which will let him punish you. It's pretty awesome. He'll always have some slight cues though, for example... You can tell if he'll followup after his firaga geysers by the height they're at. Low geysers with an extremely high one at the end means that he'll do a teleporting overhead slash that you can block and risk dodge. High geysers mean that Vanitas won't followup and you can just air step to him. You can also guard the firaga geysers to reprisal in some forced damage but this route is a bit riskier since you may sometimes get a classic "Osaka guard failure". Later on he'll begin to do a long drawn out combo where he shoots out keyblades but this is reactable since his lock on icon appears before the attack comes out so you'll know when to guard.
No forced reprisal damage.
Many of Bowl Boy's attacks do not allow you to reprisal them. This may seem obvious like "of course you can't break his armor with them" but some bosses allow you to get extra damage on them by abusing the invincibility frames of a reprisal. This means that you'll be able to cancel the reprisal into a guard to get a usually guaranteed perfect block so you would take absolutely no damage while getting out some damage and getting a perfect block.
For example, Young Xehanort's tempest combo attack has two parts. You can block the first, reprisal during the middle where he's not swinging and then block the next part of the attack and reprisal that one. This is hard to describe in text but you'll just feel it whenever you play a fight like that.
Due to how dark Sora teleports after a lot of his attacks, his hurtbox is already gone by the time his fade away animation is starting up. You can see an example of this whenever I reprisal his "You Wish"; notice how he takes no damage.
Just skip the desperation move
Repressed bisexual has two desperation moves in which he keyblade surfs. But just like Birth By Sleep, you can knock him off of it- only when he's jumping onto it though. The first one is easy enough to dodge since he just throws out some ice and you have to dodge roll/avoid his keysurf charge. The other one though, I don't know. Everyone just says to skip it. So uh, skip it. When you see him summoning those keys, just thunder.
Why are you using Shooting Star? Isn't Ultima/Oathblivion better?
Yeah but I like this keyblade. Also the Dark/Light forms can be somewhat problematic due to them removing Risk Dodge (the Dodge prompt that can appear vs Larxene or Vanitas) which can be annoying in certain situations when you're trying to do things effectively. You might have also noticed or will soon notice that I don't use arrow guns. This is because it has no guard so it sucks for this fight. You'd need to really experiment to see how you need to specifically dodge these situations. Also since magic shoots from the gun and doesn't just spawn to who you're locked to, it'll be delayed when getting to the gremlin which can be problematic to prevent his keyblade surf attacks.
