As much as I adore conlangs, I really like how the Imperial Radch books handle language. The book is entirely in English but you're constantly aware that you're reading a "translation," both of the Radchaai language Breq speaks as default, and also the various other languages she encounters. We don't hear the words but we hear her fretting about terms of address (the beloathed gendering on Nilt) and concepts that do or don't translate (Awn switching out of Radchaai when she needs a language where "citizen," "civilized," and "Radchaai person" aren't all the same word) and noting people's registers and accents. The snatches of lyrics we hear don't scan or rhyme--even, and this is what sells it to me, the real-world songs with English lyrics, which get the same "literal translation" style as everything else--because we aren't hearing the actual words, we're hearing Breq's understanding of what they mean. I think it's a cool way to acknowledge linguistic complexity and some of the difficulties of multilingual/multicultural communication, which of course becomes a larger theme when we get to the plot with the Presgar Translators.

Outfit breakdowns for all of my Kirby hero of yore ocs! I don’t know if I can count Galacta (or Papi) as ocs but my interpretations are rather far from the source material at this point ^^;
First is Galacta, the Hero of Heart, who is the hero among heroes of the four of them. The most honored, the most gallant, the light and hope of Halcandra.
Second is Nebula, the Hero of Dream, who is a laid-back, mostly relaxed figure who is calm and kind. Though they can often be found napping in various locations around town, in battle, they are a fierce warrior, and are very protective of Galacta.
Third is Papilio, the Hero of Soul, also known to many as Lio, or by their personal name, Anax. They are the smallest and the youngest of the heroes, a prodigy with the blade, and known as the fastest and most light-footed of the heroes.
And finally, the Hero of Dark, whose true name is only known to their friends. They are the quietest of the heroes, and wield a spear, though most of their powers are long range magic.

Tell me less about how we don’t know how they would identify today (a statement that can be made about literally every historical figure) and more about how they expressed themselves in their lifetime.

Just, Sonic being reminded of little Tails whenever taking care of either of the shatterverse foxes.
Sonic being reminded of the feral, scruffy, starved and tiny child when stopping Mangey from biting someone, when he grabs him and his hands wrap around his torso almost completely. Or when he sits late nights outside by a campfire (because he failed to drag the fox inside the workshop just yet.) trying to fight off the endless knots in the years neglected, messy fur.
Sonic getting flashbacks once he runs by a crater in the sand on the beach undoubtedly left behind by a failed bomb crafting test and later finds Sails quietly trying to get all the gunpowder and grime out of his fur. When he sees the light shining in the fox's eyes as he's fired up to help out on a mission and Sonic knows there's no convincing him otherwise.
Sonic being reminded of the early days, when both him and Tails got mostly used to each other, but not quite, as he reaches out to Nine just a bit too quickly, or touches him without warning and the fox flinches. When he sees the same heartbreaking disbelief in his eyes as Tails still sometimes has when giving him an earnest compliment. When he has to remind the other that there's no secret criteria he has to tick off every day to deserve love.
Sonic getting to raise Tails all over again man.

grabbing fistfuls of my own hair rocking back and forth repeating to myself like some kind of fucked up wizardly enchantment you should care about womens sports because its literally the same fucking sport why do i have to bend over backwards to convince you to care about womens sports like at an abstract level it is the exact same fucking thing and yet you cannot bear to possibly watch it unless you think the women are hot or there is some sort of social gain why is it so hard for you to care about womens sports when they are literally doing all of it better than the men

Tbh the whole 'bloodclan bans families and hates Cat God' thing really reminds me of the anti communist bullshit I was fed in highschool history class.
Every day I count my lucky stars that I got educated in a well-funded school in a blue state. My teachers were shockingly good in hindsight, I didn't get half of the same propaganda some of my friends in other states got.
