#byler #mike subtly trying to one up will over his gf being better #bc that's what guy friends do #like him and dustin #but he has to do it subtly bc he's too much of a scaredy cat to ask will about this girl he 'likes' (according to el) #and so when mike makes a subtextual joke about his milkshake being better (his girlfriend being better) #and angela rolls up at that exact moment #comedic timing that 99.99% of the audience missed #also interesting that mike seems sort of dejected after this conversation... #i think mike thought he won in his little gf competition with dustin in the episode previous #he kind of just laughed off dustins remark but it does look like he felt sure of himself #the problem was that his arguments for why his gf is better cannot compete with will's gf in his eyes #bc what mike sees is will being practically entranced by angela #us the audience knows that's not what's happening #but based on everything leading up to this point #mike gets the impression upon meeting angela and watching will 'pine' after her longingly #that this is THE girl will made the painting for... #and will's visible attraction to angela (again from mike's unreliable pov) outweighs mike's attraction to el #which is why he gives his milkshake another sip #only to look dissapointed #he didn't win this round #will is in love with a girl and mike cannot compete because he is not in love with *gunshots*

Oh my god they’re finally almost done! The Superboy ones took me somehow nearly 5 hours. Curves are the fucking worst when trying tocut cardboard neatly. My exactoknife is getting dull super fast from this unfortunately so I’ll likely have to go out and get replacements tomorrow.

I think they look super nice and I’m very happy with how they turned out! Just waiting on the glue for the SB logos to dry so I can attach them to the shortbox!

What markers do you use and what kind paper? The textures are so Delicious

Very basic paper, actually! I find I overthink when using expensive stuff and it makes my sketches worse.

As for markers, I use Copics! Not that this is an endorsement (my first set were a very nice gift), but I have really liked using alcohol based markers over water based ones; lovely texture, good blending, and less streaking. However, the price can be *brutal*, and you can very easily get by with other markers + pencil crayons.

#ask #art faqs #fancy supplies are nice but the dont really help THAT much for art skills. Consistancy and persistance does. #I balked the first time I needed to go in to buy a few new ones to fill out my roster. #if you are going to invest; my strategy was to make those fancy new supplies a reward for drawing X amount of days in a row #that way one doesnt buy a bunch of stuff for a soon to be abandoned hobby #Art is a relatively cheap hobby at its basics. You do not need the fanciest and most expensive things. #I think watercolour is the only exception for me; that paper better be high grade. The paint mix also matters #but I digress. Buy what you need and not what you want. Save your money. #Guilt will make you stop drawing. Hoarding supplies and never using them is wasteful #when I drop money on new colours I'm going in with a list of what I want #and looking through the swatchpad for hours until i get the right colour. #cant emphasize enough how fortunate I am to have been gifted my copics. I never would have bought them on my own.

One of the first attempts at sculpting the boy; the head was later altered quite a bit and the legs entirely scrapped, and the torso bulked up shaking my shoulders feverishly: we need to properly represent his 110 cm bust and what we have isn't cutting it. Scabbards were made (which survived till the end!) and the original clay swords were made by this point.

New torso and legs give (hallelujah), as well as the loops and holes for the ears (such finicky small work, fuck me) were made. Holes were first made with straight wire and dried before the hoops were gently (and with swearing) inserted through.

Clothes added, also with swearing as the clay dried and stiffened faster then I wanted to and made it hard to get nice folds. Scarf was re-made and smoothed later.

Scabbards added! Immediately drops it and breaks a piece of it off. I've glued multiple bits of the scabbards back on the flimsy bastards. He remained armless for a good while. A Venus on the shelf by my desk...

Because the clay sword (after a good hour of tender focused work) would IMMEDIATELY would break upon the lightest touch, annoying me to no end, one evening was like God I wish I had actual metal to use instead wouldn't that be cool, and then was like OH! I COULD DO THAT! So the metal is actually cut from the tin of a cat food can, straightened and sanded., as seen in photo!

First layers of paint on various parts; I generally paint via colours I'm using at the moment (ie, greens in this instance)

More layers laid down. I generally go for shading in rules of three (main colour, lighter, and darker hues) and apply them at different opacity of acrylic. Adjusted the green since I found it too pungent. Once the fur tones were finished I gave him his stripes (cue me searching up loads of photos of tigers and tiger fursonas to see how people have done the stripes. Did you know depending on the area they are from they have different face shapes and stripe patterns? Fascinating stuff)

Finished project! Last layers, and highlights where added, adjusted the eye and fuck-ups re-adjusted. Dropped and had to reglue things. The gold is actual gold leaf I applied using a glue you paint on but that was a bit of a whole mess and took a long time, and doesn't go on very flat on very not-flat surfaces... (Who would have thought...) In the future may instead use gold paints for metallics.

my problem with art is that to get better at line art I need to practice line art but it's so much easier to fudge everything with paint. so I get into the line art and then two minutes later I'm painting. on the upside I have greatly improved at painting but STILL. THE LINEART. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.
