Backstory | Jaeyeon
Just a little backstory to Jaeyon’s timeline and her relationship to the boys.

Jaeyeon’s Masterlist
Tumblr media
2009
Jaeyeon was a determined 16-year-old, once she puts something on mind, sat a goal, made a decision, she always saw it through and made it happen. And this year she made a decision that will change the course of her life. This year she’ll get into a Korean entertainment agency. How can she not? It was only last year that she’s gotten into K-pop after a visit to Korea to see her extended family, and in which her cousin introduced her to the phenomenon that is about to be. K-pop. To say that Jaeyeon loved the music would be a huge understatement, the girl was hooked, obsessed, addicted, call it whatever you want but that day in Seoul, South Korea has changed this girl’s life forever.
Admittedly her parents were reluctant at first, how could they send their daughter from the UK to Korea and have her living alone for god knowns how long, but seeing how their daughter trained and worked hard everyday with what she's got in the UK made them unable to do anything but support her no matter how many times their two sons complained about Jaeyeon singing in the morning they didn’t have the heart to stop her.
The one thing Jaeyeon seemed to struggle with is her Korean, she tried to talk with her parents in all Korean but with two other siblings not sharing her need it was hard. Her mum reassured her that once she was in Korea serounded by all native speakers she'll pick it up in no time.
So once she found a global audition to a company called SM Entertainment she signed up. It didn’t take her long to find out that she was accepted.
Jaeyeon did go through a small culture shock when she first arrived at her dorm in Korea. The dorm was so small it could barely fit two people but it had eight girls living in it. 9 counting Jaeyeon. With only one other English speaker, Jaeyeon picked up Korean faster than her new appointed Korean teacher at SM expected.
Jaeyeon got on with the other trainees quite nicely, she formed friends during the non-existed free time, between dancing lessons, vocal, Korean and now Mandarin added to the mix she almost quit each day, but her older brother who talked to her everyday reminded her that she didn’t go all that way to just quit, so she powered through it, she graduated high school in Korea, all while training.
2009 was such a busy year that Jaeyeon had hard time keeping track of everything she’s done.
•───────•°•❀•°•───────•
2010
April of 2010 was when everything crashed in Jaeyeon’s little bubble. SM have decided to let her go. She was no longer a trainee at SM. Just like that. Jaeyeon had to pack her bags and find a new place for her to live, she didn’t tell her family in England or the ones in Seoul. She wanted to do this on her own, so she went from agency to agency from audition to audition avoiding the big 3. She didn’t want to got into a company and be kicked up because of the competition. Or have to go through so many friends in a month, she had her share and she won’t be able to go through it again.
She found a part time job, that with the money her family was sending her, she was able to find a cubical room.
She’s seen so many agents in a short span of time she couldn’t keep up with how many. The auditions were brutal, Jaeyeon met so many trainees that shared her drive and tired look in their eyes, some companies rejected her for the sole reason she’s a “foreigner”, but quite a few companies accepted her and so she spent her time looking all of them up and deciding which one was better for her, in the end she chose a small company called BigHit, she remembered that the people at the audition left a good impression on her and the company owner was even present. He did look over her credentials and was impressed with her progress and her abilities to pick up new talents easily. With BigHit Jaeyeon felt like she was being seen for the first time since she went to Korea, they could see potential in her and so she signed her trainee contract and was back in a dorm with a few other girls, and back into the practice rooms every day.

(2010 – 2011)
It took only one year for Bang Si Hyuk to let Jaeyeon debut. She debuted as a soloist, even though he had planes for debuting a girl group next year which would be co-managed with Source Music he couldn’t wait that long without another active artist, the company was suffering, they were on the verge of announcing bankruptcy, they needed another source of income and soloists don’t need as much as groups do, and Jaeyoen was eager to debut.
Since signing into BH, Jaeyeon had met almost all the trainees at the company, including a talented Namjoon who she had formed a friendship with, he could speak English which was something that Jaeyeon found herself looking for now a days. Both were passionate about music and would often be found bouncing off ideas off each other.
Jaeyeon admired him, he’s a year younger than herself, and no matter how many times she told him to drop the honourifics he wouldn’t, so when Min Yoongi joined the company Jae was over the moon, the 17-year-old and her formed an unlikely friendship. Even though he originally joined the company to become a producer he was turned into a normal trainee, and so Jaeyeon found herself helping both guys with dancing, only to be joined by Jung Hoseok when he joined the company, that man was a dancing machine.
Both him and Jaeyeon would spend hours dancing and still smile at the end of the lessons. A lot of people came and left the company as the time went on, but a few stayed and those were the ones Jaeyeon allowed herself to get close to.
•───────•°•❀•°•───────•
Debuting obviously wasn’t an easy task, there were so many preparations, even as a soloists. Jaeyeon was told of what to expect and all the steps, but being told was one thing and actually going through them is another thing. Jaeyeon had even less time to spend with her friends, than she did before, but they were understanding, it’s the life of K-pop idols after all, the life they all wanted and aspired to be.
Jaeyeon’s debuted song didn’t make a splash which was expected she was a nobody from an unknown company. Jae wasn’t disappointed and neither was the company because Jae did gain a few fans. Her Twitter followers went up a little with her debut.
BigHit didn’t waste anytime and Jaeyeon was back in the studio recording another mini album. In the free time she had, she spent in the company and with trainees, she didn’t really have a life outside the company. Finding her friends was easy the building was so small she didn’t have to look for long.
Jaeyeon met Jungkook the doe eyed 15-year-old after one of the dance classes her friends were taking. He was so shy his eyes went wide when he first saw her walking into the room. Of course everyone at BigHit knew her, she was their only fully debuted artist. After giving hugs to her friends she gave Jungkook a smile and little nod, the boy bowed a full 90 degrees making her grin.
“Hello, sunbae-nim.” His voice came out small and shy, his cheeks tinted red.
“Call me Noona.” She told him, and asked for his name which he gave her, before she left with Yoongi, Jungkook looking at her with wide eyes, making Hoseok pat his back and chuckle. He and Namjoon shared a look of amusement, Jaeyeon is beautiful, they admired her looks a few times before, but it was Jungkook’s first time seeing her in real life. Looks like 15 year old Jungkook had a crush.
That same year a handsome man joined BigHit. He was a year older than Yoongi and Jaeyeon his name’s Seokjin and Jae had to admit she enjoyed his company a lot. He had a sense of humour that made her feel right at home.

2012
In 2012 GLAM debuted, for some reason most of the girls in the group did not like Jaeyeon and so she kept her distance, but she did promote their debut whenever she got the chance. As Jaeyeon continued to comeback every few months, her steady rise in fame didn’t go unnoticed by the company, she was able to make more money. And thus the company was able to function a little. It was needless to say that she was making the most money out of the two other groups at the company. And as time went on Bang Sihyuk could see her creativity coming though, she always wanted to be there for every step of the music making, hoping to learn and help in anyway, and besides the money she now sent her family however little it may be, Jae took only a little for herself, she now had a small dorm and by small I mean a studio apartment for herself. Everything else went to the company. She had a contract signed that all her money would be giving back to her whenever they had money in the meantime since her small trining debt was payed it’ll go to the company. It may take a few years but she trusts her gut feeling, and her gut feeling told her to trust the company.
Yes, her parents called her stupid for trusting them this much but they weren’t there, they didn’t interact with the people working there like she was, she knew everyone at the company and she trusted her sense of judgement.
Taehyung joined BigHit and became a new member to the group that was forming, and set to debut in mid 2013. Jaeyeon admired the group and was wondering how such a diverse group could work together so well.
The boys were sometimes acting as her backup dancers, making them even closer to Jaeyeon. She for one was always happy when that happened as a soloist she mostly worked alone, so when she had them with her she was happy. It calmed her knowing she wasn’t alone on stage even if every eye was on her and not them.
•───────•°•❀•°•───────•
2013
It was the year that Jimin joined the company and Bangtan got ready to debut, they got busier and busier as the time went on. And now it was her turn to be the understanding friend. Which she was happy to be. BigHit was busy with her comeback and their debut which were close to each other, her comeback would be first, giving her a chance to promote the group.
As they made a channel on YouTube to post videos of the female idol, on her days working, just like a vlog, most of the time it would be her filming what she was doing other times a staff member would help her. Her fans seemed to enjoy that, they felt closer to the idol and that made her fan base grow a little bigger, she still hadn’t gotten a win, but everyone was hopeful for her next comeback.
And a first win she got, standing on stage Jae was waving to her fans not really focusing on the MC, she hadn’t expected the win even though she was up for it, so she interacted with her fans, a grin on her face.
“JaeYeon-ssi.” The MC said making Jae look up her eyes went wide as the confetti fell onto the stage and suddenly she was being handed the prize along with flowers and a microphone. It took her a full moment to realise what was going on. Tears gathered in her eyes, and her lips quivered.
“Oh my god!” Was the first thing she said making her fans go wild. “Thank you so much my Loves, without you I wouldn’t have been able to have this prize, I love you all so much.” Tears slip down her cheeks, the other idols were leaving the stage as ‘Firework’ her wining song played. “Please look forward my company’s new group Bangtan Sonyeondan.” She said before she started singing, tears still leaving her eyes, she’d sniff in between lyrics, as the song came to a close, she bowed deeply to the fans and waved to them as a sob left her lips.
Walking into the company the next day, Jaeyeon was met with congratulations and clapping as she walked, the young woman bowed to everyone she passed, the glow of the win is yet to go, making the smile on her face permanent.
Jaeyeon’s manager led her to the meeting room where she was told Bang Si Hyuk was waiting for her. She opened the door to be met with cheering, confetti and a cake. There was a staff member holding a camera filming the whole interaction. The boys of Bangtan and GLAM along with her staff members, producers and Ban Si Hyuk were in the room. It was a wonder they all fit in the room. It wasn’t the biggest room.
“CONGRATULATIONS!” they all shouted shocking the living hell out of her, she took a step back her mouth falling open, before her hands went up to cover her mouth, her eyes were wide as she took in every single person in the room.
“You guys.” Jaeyeon whines, a pout on her lips her eyes filling up with tears once again. Walking further in the room, Jaeyeon shared hugs and bows with everyone in the room, making sure not to leaving anyone out, maybe a member or two of GLAM.
“Congratulations, Jaeyeon-ah.” Bang PD said to the 20 year old, he gave her a warm hug and patted her back, she bowed deeply to him.
“Congratulations to you too, Bang PD-nim.” She said her eyes shining with unshed tears, but a big smile was on her face. “If you hadn’t taken a chance on me, I wouldn’t have done it.”
Jaeyeon moved to cut the cake as everyone took a piece. The air was warm and filled with talking and laughter, everyone was given a piece, some of the idols and idols to be were a little reluctant but a small piece or bit didn’t hurt.
One by one people left to go back to work. Jaeyeon and the rest of Bangtan found themselves standing on one side of the room, talking before Jungkook shyly tapped Jaeyeon’s shoulder.
“What is it Jungkook-ah?” She asked the younger boy, who smiled shyly up at her.
“We- uh- we got you something.” He said handing Jaeyeon a long black box, she raised a brow at the seven men in front of her.
“You guys didn’t have to get me anything.” She said and gave them a smile. “But thank you.”
“We hope you like it.” Namjoon said and Jaeyeon opened the box to find a thin chain with a butterfly charm hanging from it, it was clearly made of silver, not expensive, but more than the boys could afford.
“You seriously didn’t have to trouble yourself, this is too much, you haven’t debuted yet.” She said and looking up from the necklace.
“Noona honestly, we know we wouldn’t be able to debut without you.” Hoseok and the others mumbled their agreements making the female sigh and then grin.
“Okay, group hug.” She said and everyone sprang into action, they gathered around in a group hug making everyone in the room laugh.
•───────•°•❀•°•───────•
13 of June 2013
It was finally the day her closest friends would debut. They boys have been working harder than Jaeyeon’s ever seen them before, which made this day even more anticipated. She knew that one day they’ll be winning awards and making music that’s played on the radios. They had to with the amount of hard work they put in and the amount of talent, they were just a perfect cocktail to make it. Thankfully Jaeyeon had the day off so she could go and see them after their performance, she had gotten them flowers and planned to take them out to dinner when they have the time, she had managed to save enough money to be able to take them all out.
Jaeyeon was able to watch their performance on screen backstage she felt so proud of the guys, she felt like a proud mother. When they finally made it back to their small dressing room she was the first to greet them with hugs and congratulations with compliments thrown in as well.
She then gave them the traditional flowers you get people in Korea when they accomplish something.
“I already told your manger to put in when you next have free time, cause I’m taking you all out for food.” She told them after they settled in.
“You don’t have to noona.” Namjoon was the first to answer making Jae give him a look that had him raising his hands up in surrender.
“I want to, and you all will come.” She said and grinned at them as she thought about the fun she’ll be having with the boys. “But honestly you guys, you were amazing out there, I can’t say it enough.”
A couple of them blushed bashfully, while others thanked their friend and sunbae. After spending a few more moments with the guys and taking a group picture, Jaeyeon left to let the guys rest and go on with their day.
“Noona!” Jungkook called after Jae, making her turn and look at the almost sixteen year old. “Let me walk you out.”
“Oh, you don’t have to.” She said shaking her head no she knew these halls well enough to be able to leave and get into the company car, unlike group cars or soloists from big companies the car she rode was a small one if she ever was in a bigger car it would be because some of her team were coming with her, Jungkook looked at the space besides her head as he said his next words.
“I want to, I can’t really sit still right now.” With his words Jaeyeon nodded and turned back to where she was going.
“I know what you mean.” Jae said stepping closer to Jungkook in the busy hallways, she bowed to those who recognised her or vice versa, she did have a hat on, her mask was pushed under her chin while she talked. “The rush you get on stage doesn’t die down right away, hopefully we’ll both get to do more and more stages as time goes on, and get used to the feeling.”
“Hopefully.” Jungkook mumbled, he kept glancing at Jaeyeon as he walked, he did admire her, and as his hyungs pointed out, he does like her, he has to admit that she’s his ideal type.
“You were amazing out there Jungkookie.” Jae said looking at the maknae of her company, a grin on her face. “You were born to be on stage, I swear.”
“I wasn’t.” He muttered looking at the ground, not wanting to meet her eyes.
“You are, and you’ll see it.” Jaeyeon said confidently. “One day you’ll have girls screaming you name so loudly you wont be able to hear anything else.”
“I don’t believe that.”
“Well you better start believing then Kookie, cause I know I’ll be screaming the loudest.” With a chuckle she patted his back as they reached the door where they’ll separate. “I’ll see you soon, take care of yourself Kook-ah and don’t push yourself too hard.”
“I won’t.” Jungkook said looking at Jae.
“Bye.”
“Bye.”

Jaye X Ampersand show world tour 2024
The Ampersand world tour 2024 project is initiated by Casey Zoltan of the Known gallery Los Angeles. Each artist must interpret the Ampersand pattern. The exhibition will travel to several countries and several continents.I live in a country where graffiti artists have little or no opportunity to show their work. I became interested in metal work in 2014 because once settled in Tunisia I did not…

direct article link regarding shift-up, stellar blade developer, removing a woman’s work from their gacha game Destiny Child for defending feminism
I’ll make this its own post (original here) because I’ve seen people believing this didn’t happen, or there was some twitter thread that was deleted so it means it didn’t happen. this is a link to a direct Korean news source regarding what happened:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
article regarding SHIFT-UP removing an artist’s work from their gacha game “Destiny Child” after she said there shouldn’t be a problem being a feminist and voiced support for the VA, Kim Jayeon, that Nexon fired for taking a photo of herself wearing a shirt that said “Girls Do Not Need A Prince”. The shirt was part of a fundraiser to help victims of domestic violence (see the npr article linked below) , the rates of which are especially high for women living in South Korea. You can note here that literally anything vaguely feminist is met with “are you megal?” (referring to the defunct website megalia) and it doesn’t even matter how she responds. This woman made some simple statements and is smeared as some feminist terrorist. tbh sometimes it’s an uphill battle trying to explain to anyone, especially on the western internet, that these women aren’t making some evil dogwhistle to the feminist illuminati when they make basic feminist statements. I’ve gotten called “terf/terf sympathizer” (???) for trying to explain that the artist Vellmori was being smeared on the western web with the term “terf” as a targeted campaign by Korean incels who know that term puts a target on your back and nothing else about it. I am of course not saying megalia was a totally unproblematic site with no ideological problems but none of these women being attacked and fired are saying anything like “yeah the homophobia was great” they’re literally advocating for basic women’s rights. I’m also not saying “basic” in a condescending way, on the contrary I think these women are brave for speaking out and have created complex feminist ideologies and movements. “Basic” and “simple” are meant to show the absurdity in the reaction (extreme male anger, firing, censorship, etc) in relation to the original statement (molka is bad, it’s fine to be a feminist, etc).
this is an article in English regarding the VA who wore the shirt:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Whatever your thoughts on megalia the fundraiser wasn’t even made by the main site as you can read in the NPR article. Regardless of your opinion regarding how this was handled it was a misogynistic act of feminist ideological verification.
