20: A song that has many meanings to you

Fast Car - Tracy Chapman

The storytelling in this song is timeless and relatable as something I had experienced myself. It's bitter-sweet and healing depending where you are in life listening to this song.

I remember listening to the original with my parents when I was young. If my life was a tv show, this song would have been played in yhe background as foreshadowing. Fast track to 2014 hearing Jonas Blue's cover and it's just uplifting nostalgia. Skyway's 2015 cover [titled: Back in the 80s this song ruled] on repeat healed me like Blink 182 headlining Coachella.

Honestly, it's a damn shame this show did not get renewed for a second season. The music and acting was brilliant and just 😘👌

I sobbed so hard when I first heard this song, and I still tear up after my 100th rewatch of JATP.

Special mention to Helena by MCR. I saw them again last month and Gerard still slaps my emo heart.

Talk You Down - The Script

I'm honestly still so devastated of Mark's passing this week. Such talent and so young. He wrote so many of my favourite songs.

I've seen the Script live that many times I almost needed a third hand to count. They never miss. I'll always hold onto those memories and feelings, and so grateful to have met him.

Rest in peace, Mark.

This song just makes me nostalgic and still brings all the warm and fuzzy that you feel when falling in love.

I remember 2013, standing on the concert floor for 1D. 18 started playing as we waited for the boys and all the fans started singing along, and it's a feeling I won't ever forget. Also, I've known my partner since highschool and been married for 8 years now ❤️

This body was never made is a meditation on #grief and its attendant fears surrounding the #body – the body’s frailty, lineage, and legacy. Its #poems paint portraits of #maternal #loss, of a fractured #family, of nature’s eloquence, and of transcendental beauty. While This body was never made does not solve the problem of death, it embraces the “night sounds” that accompany an awareness of the body’s temporality, resolving in the chapbook’s final lines, “There is nothing in this room but shapes of us—amorphous/organs ascending and descending underneath the bed sheets.” In this collection, still-life speaks, seascapes listen, and math provides counsel, reminding us that #life exists before and beyond the body.

Tara Propper has earned her MFA in poetry and PhD in English. Her poetry has appeared in the Southampton Review, Janus Unbound, Literature Today, Ekstasis Magazine, Shuili Magazine, Taj Mahal International Literary Journal, Moveable Type, Vagabond City Press, and P – Queue. Cerebral, lyrical, witty, loving and grief-worn, Tara Propper’s life-infusing poems in the collection, This body was never made, reveal an immense talent, a rare gift to the world of poetry. In a sky of many, Propper is singular. The poem “Seascape at 4:42 PM” concludes: “One chiseled cloud makes a metonymy/ of itself. Cotton mammals lurk above/ both pure and untrue. /4:43 PM drops/its un-blessings. It’s the ugliest of day–/and most aware.” Propper’s poems are sinuous tracings that unnerve the tick of the clock; a lot happens between 4:42 PM and 4:43 PM, a lot that is “most aware.”

Tara Propper’s This body was never made tests the precision and range of mathematical concepts in particular and, more broadly, any intellectual construct we use to understand the stunning input of our senses. Can a fractal describe a pregnant female body? A miscarriage? Rage? Death? This body was never made also tests the language with which we express these concepts, using rhymes, chimes, puns and syntactical play to push words to their limits: “Outnumbered, she let the numb root.” The raw power of these poems comes from the pressure they are under to bridge the rational and the anything but.

Effects artist Ralph Miller joins the Grue-Crew to add his experience working on Gremlin’s creature crew, led by Chris Walas, the designer of Mogwai and the gremlins. Though the crew focuses on the film’s effects, they also delve into the cast, cameos, crew, and behind-the-scenes stories.

Hi. Do you know what that crazy fuzz pedal is that you can hear during the final section of Climbing up the walls (1997 - Live from the 10 Spot)? Sounds crazy with lots of clipping! Thank you!

In the late-1990s, Thom switched between two pedals for acoustic guitar distortion: an original Tech 21 Sansamp and a ProCo Turbo Rat. His acoustic guitar pedal was kept to the left of his mic stand, while his electric guitar pedals were kept to the right of his mic stand. He only had a single pedal on his left during that era, using it for Paranoid Android and Climbing Up The Walls. Thom can be seen stomping on the Sansamp during Paranoid Android on Jools Holland, filmed on May 21, 1997. However, Thom is instead using a ProCo Turbo Rat in footage from Radiohead's appearance at Eurockéennes de Belfort on July 4, 1997. The distortion on that performance sounds pretty similar to the distortion on the Hammersmith (10 Spot) recording from December 19, 1997, so he most likely used the Turbo Rat for both.

Also, make sure not to confuse Thom's acoustic guitar distortion, heard at the end of the song, with Colin's fuzzy Novation Bass synthesizer, heard throughout the song. No amount of distortion will make an acoustic sound like the blend heard at the end of Climbing Up The Walls: the layering of Colin's synth bass, Thom's distorted acoustic, and Ed's distorted electric.

We can see his Tech 21 Sansamp on the floor to his left, and his electric guitar pedalboard on his right (featuring a Boss DD3, Marshall Shredmaster, and ProCo Turbo Rat). This was just a week after the Jools Holland performance, so it's no surprise he's still using the Sansamp for his acoustic. Compared to the later performances mentioned above, the distortion sounds a little less extreme in the BBC session.

Noddy you’re insane. But I also like a challenge. Here’s most of them.

1. What were your summers like as a kid? My grandma and grandpa lived right next door, they took care of us while my parents had to work. In the summer, I usually just played pretend outside with my two cousins and sister that also lived next door on the other side of us.

2. Do you enjoy thrilling rides like rollercoasters? Yes!

3. Who was your childhood hero? I looked up to the creators of atla a lot!

4. What is your favorite book? Probably still Behemoth, the second book in the Leviathan series by Scott Westerfeld

6. What is your favorite outfit? Probably my cherry blossom tee with a pink skirt. Comfy and cute.

7. Does seeing people in love make you happy? Sad? Annoyed? Annoyed and jealous, if I’m being honest. I wish I could feel that way. At least as naturally as other people.

12. Iced drinks or hot drinks? Iced drinks. My favorite drinks are iced coffee and iced tea.

13. Bright colors or neutral tones? Hmm. Probably neutral. I’m a big fan of pastels, if that counts.

16. What’s your favorite feature of yours? As much as I complain, probably my squinty eyes. My Dad and Grandpa both have them too and I like that I inherited that feature from them. I think it’s endearing that our eyes disappear when we smile, lol.

21. What’s the stupidest fight you’ve ever gotten into? I remember arguing with a cousin over the phone when I was little on if it’s okay to run a red light if no one else is at the intersection. I insisted it was because my grandpa told me it was. She valiantly disagreed. That phone call lasted forever XD

23. What's your dream date? I don’t know. Maybe a movie or car ride so I don’t have to make eye contact LMAO

25. Do you like parties? Nope. Too loud.

26. Did you enjoy high school? Somehow, yes. I liked band and during lunch I got a break from everyone by eating lunch in a teacher’s room.

27. Who is the craziest person in your family and why? Pfft. Dear lord. Just one? My family has issues. Gonna skip over the mental illnesses and addictions and interpret this lightheartedly. My bisexual??? aunt is the life of any party. She can make friends anywhere. She lies all the time, over the dumbest things too. She is so fucking funny and problematic and I love her.

28. What's your favorite holiday tradition? 4th of July. My grandpa hosts the best party in the area at his house. My uncle and dad are usually the ones that organize it. Along with the help of most other family members who cook, clean, set up, etc. A lot of people come out and we eat barbecue, play games, light sprinklers, and watch the fireworks show.

31. What's a show that everyone loves that you didn't? Survivor. It’s so boring to me.

35. Who are your top 5 celebrity crushes? Only one I can think of is Robert Sheehan. I love his hair.

36. If you could learn one language fluently what would it be? Ugh this is hard. The weeb in me says Japanese. The “language I’ve studied but am not great at” in me says Chinese. And the practicality in me says Spanish.

44. Do you have a favorite quote? “And the universe said I love you because you are love” and “despite everything, it’s still you.”

47. Biggest pet peeve? Someone demanding me to do a task without 1. prior notice and/or 2. me even agreeing to it

84. Any wild stories passed around in your family? Apparently one time my dad and (older) cousin were walking across the beach on their way back to us from the bar and my dad tripped on a cord. The cord came unplugged and he accidentally cut off the music to someone’s wedding. Oops.

85. Do you consider yourself an independent person? Socially and emotionally? For the most part. Financially? No.

87. What was your childhood dream? I wanted to be a counselor to do better for the mentally ill kids like me than any of the “professionals” that handled me did when I was at my worst

89. What's one thing you want to achieve this year? Get a job that doesn’t make me burn out (impossible challenge)

93. What's your craziest work related story? One time a kid bit me on my boob really hard and left a bruise for weeks. One time another kid bit my finger and made it bleed so hard I had to go to the urgent care. One time one of our kids somehow spelled out the word ‘sexy ❤️’ by placing random letter stickers

94. What's the best job you've had so far? Being a carhop. It had a lot of downsides too but it is the only one I haven’t gotten fired/nearly fired from due to my autism swag yet LMAO

97. Are you more of a planner or a spontaneous adventurer? Planner, for sure

98. Do you think you see yourself the way other people see you? No. Depending on the context, most people would either see me as pretty wise and smart for some reason (friends) or the dumbest and most immature person you’ve ever had the displeasure of working with (coworkers). It seems like there’s never any middle ground. I’d like to think I’m in the middle of those extremes.

99. What's the last show you binged? The Owl House

100. What's one of your fondest memories? Making shadow puppets for my sister as we snuggled up in her bed when we were little
