kat talks: 5-star

tldr; it did not take long at all for this comeback to grow on me i love it so much. i find that with most new songs my first listen is always very apathetic and/or ??? LOL and there exists only a small handful of songs that i immediately was like oH MY GOD (this is across all artists i listen to) but yeah i always forget that when listening to new music and i think this comeback is the first time i fully acknowledged that my first listen is rarely (and doesnt need to be) instant likesies. theres a lot of small bits throughout the album that remind me of other songs (not a bad thing, just smth i noticed i kept noticing?). topline, dlc, the sound and time out were/are my favs hehe (update: relistening to the album again and collision and fnf are creeping up to my favs too help)

the song/chorus has a.. an urban tropical feel? like it's ALMOST something you would hear with a tropical background but smth about the key, maybe, plavces it instead in an urban setting at night (bc lyrics) and seems kinda bittersweet

THATS WHAT THE AMUDO MOREUGE LINE DOES it adds such a sad kinda tired/resigned feel to the song which is like. on one hand the lyrics are so 'lets dance like crazy without a care in the world' but on the other hand the song feels so lonely and kind of. 'don't worry about me, i'll manage my sadness alone'??? like, 'let's have fun together but i'm really sad even though i'm smiling' kinda thing ARGHHHHH

Not much. Mainly, she just doesn't have the budget to keep up with trendy clothing or makeup - she'd rather spend that money on art supplies.

15. Would your character wear something someone else picked out for them?

It depends on who picked it out. She of course trusts Jace, Emily, and Ahk and wouldn't hesitate to try out something they picked (though Ahk's tastes may be a little antiquated). Others, it kind of depends. She's not picky about clothing, but she's kind of curvy and it can be embarrassing for someone else to pick out an outfit only for it not to fit... she'd rather shop for herself

2. What gift would your character give to someone they didn't like but felt obligated to?

She'd try to still put some thought into it and tailor it to their personality, but she'd stick to something easy like a gift card, or a book/movie in their preferred genre.

4. Is there an item your character liked that they can’t get back? 

She's always a little sad when art companies change the formulas of their products (goodbye, Dandelion Yellow...), especially since her choices are either to hoard what she has left of the old formula and never use it or to use it anyway and lament when it's finally gone.

14. Is there an item your character is embarrassed they own or want?

I think she'd realllly want to try out some of those trendy gimmicky art products, knowing they're stupid but wanting to try them out of curiosity anyway.

Not that I can think of. There's foods she dislikes for sure, but she'd try anything once.

Tiramisu and a latte from her favorite Italian bakery! It's her go-to "finished a big project and I'm gonna treat myself" prize

16. Is there a food texture your character doesn't like?

Look. She's a Southern gal through and through. But grits have to be a very certain texture for her to enjoy them, otherwise they just feel strange and a little slimy.

4. Is there a natural phenomenon that scares your character?

I think she always gets a little wary of tornadoes. She's seen them do some damage, though thankfully not to her own home.

15. Is there a creature that scares your character?

She's got a healthy appreciation for venomous snakes. And she gets freaked the fuck out by ticks - she's the one loading up with bug spray every time she'll be out in nature, because if she has to get a tick off of herself she might cry.

16. What celestial body would interest your character the most?

Not one particular celestial body, but she likes linking astronomy with history. The star Antares representing the goddes Serket, Polaris and Sirius and their historical significance, how stars are translated differently by cultures... she finds it fascinating and beautiful

Does your character prefer company or solitude when sick?

Company, for sure. She'll never ask, but she loves being taken care of at times like that

5. Who would your character first seek if they needed medical help?

....a hospital. None of her friends are really skilled with medicine, so she'd rather be safe than sorry (the closest would be Jace, as a tattoo artist, but that's still iffy)

10. Is there a habit your character has that they learned from someone else?

I feel like she's started to adopt Ahk's regal posture when she needs to do something intimidating (like talking with McPhee, or doing midterm evaluations with her instructors). She doesn't even realize she does it, but she sort of pulls herself up the same way he does.

20. What would it take for your character to get into a fight?

It would take a lot for her to get into a real, physical fight, but if someone were posing a genuine threat to one of her friends, she'd be the first to jump to their defense.

8. What scents does your character find comforting?

She loves the smell of old parchment. She associates it with Ahk, for one, but it's also a very nostalgic smell for her and reminds her of wandering the aisles of her local library as a kid

14. Is there a secret thing your character longs to hear?

She wants to hear that she'll be remembered. Not in the sense that she'll be famous, but she wants to hear someone say that one of her art pieces moved them, and so there will be a piece of her that will always stay with them

10. Is there a skill your character doesn’t know they’re bad at?

She doesn't realize how many insecurities she still holds onto. She's gotten a lot better about that, but there are some things she still hasn't fully let go of and she doesn't entirely realize it

16. What’s an activity that reminds your character of someone else?

Cooking always reminds her of her mother and her grandmother, since they would cook together every night.

18. What is a topic your character wouldn't want to talk about?

She doesn't really like talking about the future. For one thing, it's so uncertain, especially in an art-based career - she doesn't know what opportunities will or will not pop up for her. And for another, there's always some difficult thoughts about the future, particularly in how her life will move on but the museum will stay constant.

A = Affection (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?)

Ryukyu

She can be affectionate but it really depends on how busy she's been. Some days she's very tired and would like to cuddle next to you as she naps. Days when she has more energy, she likes to hold hands with you, exchange kisses to the cheek, things like that.

Yukiko

She can be pretty affectionate, but only in private. Otherwise it'll be glances and a brush of your hands. But in private, she's a big fan of cuddles and just laying down together as you both talk about your day.

C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)

I kind of answered this already oops 😅

but yeah they're both big fans of cuddling, it just takes a bit.

Now for how they cuddle,

Yukiko is absolutely facing you as she burries her face in your chest. At first it was to hide how flustered she got. Now it's because she likes being able to feel your heartbeat.

Ryukyu is happy to be either the big or little spoon in cuddling. She likes feeling like she's protecting you, but also it's nice to rest and let someone else care for her too.

D = Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking and cleaning?)

Ryukyu

This is an interesting question for Ryukyu. While I think she wouldn't mind, I don't think she would. Just because a lot is going on in the hero world and she wants to continue being a hero and helping others. One day she'll be fine with retiring, but not anytime soon.

As for cooking and cleaning, she's good at both. Her cooking is pretty yummy but not any 5 star chef meals. She does enjoy cleaning though.

Yukiko

Eventually she would like to, but that's after she's confident with what she wants to do in life and she's proud of herself. She'll work on herself first but then she's happy to settle down.

She can clean, she's very good at cleaning. When it comes to cooking, well she's a lot better than she was. Her food is edible now. And she takes cooking lessons when she can! So she's trying.

F = Fiance(e) (How do they feel about commitment? How quick would they want to get married?)

Ryukyu

She's very committed when it comes to just about everything. But again, she wouldn't want to marry or be in a relationship anytime soon just because hero work is number one on her mind right now. Once she's sure things are fine for her to retire then she'll be glad to meet someone.

Yukiko

She does find herself daydreaming of finding a prince charming or a princess for herself some day. It's a silly daydream she has but she likes the idea of having someone that's always there for her and someone she can confide and trust in.

I = I love you (How fast do they say the L-word?)

Ryukyu

She says it pretty early. She knows that anything can happen any day and so she doesn't want to waste time with hiding her feelings.

Yukiko

She stutters on the word a lot. Yukiko wants to say it sooner than she's actually able to. Of course the process to get there does take a while, but when she realizes she's very flustered and trying to say her feelings only to stumble a bit.

Chapter 5

I went home with an extra pep in my step, resisting the urge to hop, skip and frolic around like a cutsie whimsical princess or something.

I shut the door to my room and kicked off my shoes, plopping into bed, stomach first with my legs kicking behind me.

I decided against texting Dave- and Karkat and John for that matter, because I didn’t wanna come off as weirdly clingy and desperate for “friendship”. Besides, they’re still working anyway. So instead, I go to text the group chat so I can report the good news.

It takes a few seconds before anyone answers but like always, Roxy is the first to respond.

Hmmm rare you say,,, somewhat hard to judge because everything besides like the main 5 league ships could be considered rare but LOL let's see what have I not really talked about before

Kalista and Vennix from the Ruination novel that only like 7 people apart from me have read. I do love Kalista and Ledros as the canon pairing but Vennix is so much fun you have no idea how elated I was when she was actually confirmed sapphic in the book

I'm quite partial to Quinnsona, there's a great knight/princess-esque dynamic in there that I'm always drawn to.

If I see good fanart I can be convinced of anything, I see Irelia with either Karma, Riven, or Syndra and I'm like yeah okay sure. Same goes for the Miss Fortune/Katarina and or MF/Shyvana stuff I see on twitter.

The Katarina comic got me on board with KataLux bc why not (and I think Kat and Garen is boring sorry) as well as Katarina and Drann from said comic. They've got Energy.

You hit the nail on the head with that ask. We never hear Colby complain just show hes tired, yet Sam literally is seen out more and has commented that he has panic attacks and Colby has to come help him out with that. I just had a talk about this with someone on reddit and we were saying how as soon as they returned from Europe, Sam left to have another trip with his siblings while Colby stayed behind to edit. Yet when he returned it was Sam who made the post about not needing to vacation and preferring to work than have time off. When Colby is finally seen out, Sam always has to post some version of a story or snap to show hes editing yet all we see on the screen is the thumbnail. Colby looks so down and depressed sometimes it worries me and where is Sam? Golfing? Or taking Katrina to Hawaii? Colby barely took time to see his family in Arizona because he needed to get back to editing. Just know many of us don’t say this because parts of the fandom are so toxic you cant get a word in but we all see it, and many of us feel it. You though hit the nail on the head.

my thing is, i'm not saying he doesn't deserve time off. if anything, i would love for him to find someone that could take some shit off his plate. both him and colby work their asses off, they BOTH deserve to have editors do their parts so they can focus on other things. my issue is that when colby edits, he sits in his room and does nothing else but edit. maybe you see him go out at night, maybe he goes on a walk or something. but even that's rare. sam on the other hand…. he's out with kat, or her group of friends. he's out drinking. he's doing a bunch of stuff. but then comes back and complains on not having enough time to edit. in one breath he will say he loves editing and it's his favorite thing to do, but in the next breath complain about needing an editor or showing all the shit he had to do just to get to the point where the video is almost finished.

both of them do a lot of editing all the time, but only one complains about it. and then that same one complains about not finding an editor that can copy his style, or that he has to give notes and 20 page documents on how to do his style. and it also seems like at times that he "deserves" an editor bc he has a gf and since colby doesn't, that's why who cares if he has to do his part in the end regardless. that's my issue.

and as i've said before, usually when snc are in a time crunch is when sam likes to pull out the "let's try something different with the editing", and it usually just makes the video feel a bit off, even if the thing that changed seemed somewhat interesting. there was just no follow-thru bc YOU DIDN'T HAVE TIME.

again, i don't care if sam wants time away from work. i IMPLORE both of them to take breaks. but do not come back from a 5 star vacation talking about "i love working, idk why anyone would want a vacay, you shouldn't live for them".

some of us only work to live here, samuel. you think i love working in retail for slightly above minimum wage? fuck no lol

The arguments they get into post reveal? Fuckin horrible. Katherine doesnt want to see their face, let alone hear their voice, and all Shelby wants to do is talk.

They do talk; more than once and not with Shelby being in the rain. Every time, without fail, Shelby ends up staying the nignt at Kats because Kat still cares. Probably cares too much.

Every time, without fail, Kat ends up cooking them breakfast in the early hours(2-5 am) and every time, Shelby's gone by 7.

They have shared a bed on these nights. they have gone back to Kat's bed after breakfast. Kat feels lonely everytime Shelby leaves, and wishes for him to come back.

As hateful as their relationship started post reveal, there will be days Shelby gets a text [Kat: I miss you. Wish you were here.] [Shelb: I thought you hated me.] [Kat: Hates a strong word to use now.] [Shelb: I can come by tonight?] [Kat: Gem's coming over..
