(Donnie and reader are both 18!) Disclaimer/ this is purely fantasy, if somebody is cruel to you irl it does not mean they like you, they’re scum :)
Summary: You were hired by Rose and Eddie Darko to baby sit for their youngest child Samantha, little did you know you would be sitting for some else.
Tumblr media
Being an eighteen year old student, you were painfully broke, so when your mother had referred you to her friend to baby sit, you immediately accepted.
When your mother had told you the name of the woman who’s child you would be looking after you felt a wave of anxiety rush through you.
Rose Darko. As in the parent of Donnie Darko.
You and Donnie had been in the same school, you were the same age. And unfortunately you couldn’t stand him and vice versa. There was something about the pair of you that didn’t work. He was always so uptight and had to be right about everything, it was infuriating. There was one main factor that contributed to the continuous clash between the two of you, which was the fact you dated his best friend up until pretty recently. You hadn’t seen Donnie since then considering you had no reason to be around each other anymore but the thought of seeing him again made you want to scream into a pillow.
Whenever you two would be in the same vicinity he would just straight up ignore your presence or when he did acknowledge you he would be blunt and snappy. You had no idea why but this lead to a lot of animosity between the two of you.
So when your mother had told you you would be babysitting for Samantha Darko you immediately wanted to call up Rose and tell her you wouldn’t be able to do it. However you were pretty broke and you assured yourself you probably wouldn’t see Donnie, not if there was no one to baby sit his younger sister. Plus what was you supposed to tell her? Sorry I can’t watch your child that I’ve already agreed to watch because your son hates me? Yeah no.
———————————————————-
“Hey (y,n) yeah we’ll be gone for a couple hours but we left some money for pizza.” Mrs Darko told you as you stood in their kitchen.
You already knew Samantha from when she would bug Donnie at school and run up to the friend group. She was a sweet kid and she liked you well enough so that definitely eased your nerves.
“Okay great, does Samantha need to be in bed by a specific time.” You asked sweetly, knowing full well you’d probably let her stay up regardless.
“Um nope just not too late and by the time we get home. Oh and she has homework to do.”
Rose sterling looked at Samatha as a warning.
“Boringgg.” Samantha protested whilst stood directly by your side.
“Okay well we’ll see you later, have fun” Eddie spoke as they made their way out of the door.
Rose returned and popped her head into the door before leaving .
“Oh (y,n) I’m sure Donnie will be glad to see you again.” She smiled and quickly left before you could even form a response.
Your mind paced. Was Donnie supposed to be here? Why did they need a babysitter then? Did they know you two used to be in the same friendship group? Had he mentioned you? Was it negative? Did he express how much he hated you? Would you actually see him again?
“Can you paint my nails?” Samantha snapped you from your spiral of anxious thoughts.
You turned to her and smiled. “Of course”
You had painted her nails, watched her dance rehearsals and told her how good she was, ordered pizza and now you were helping her with her homework.
She had to write about the character of Pony boy Curtis from ‘The Outsider’ by S.E Hinton.
You had loved studying this book when you was her age and literature in general. So it was absolutely no bother helping her complete her assignment.
“Well, he’s obviously very different and unique to the other characters which can be inferred through-“
You were cut off by the sound of the doorbell ringing.
“Pizza, thank God!” Samantha cried out holding her hands together.
Laughing at her childhood silliness you walked over and opened the front door with cash in your hand, your stomach very exited to finally eat.
However, you were not laughing when you opened the door to someone that was not the pizza delivery man. In fact you no longer felt hunger but complete nausea. Instead a tallish guy with dark hair and piercing blue eyes stood on the other side. Donnie.
You didn’t say anything, just moved to the side to let him through. He didn’t say anything either. Simply walked past as if you weren’t there, the smell of cigarettes trailing behind him.
“Ugh it’s just my stupid brother, not pizza” Samantha whined.
Donnie pulled a face at her as he made his way through the house.
“Hey Sam, when she goes home tonight, Freddie Kruger is gonna craw out from under your bed.” He teased through a creeping voice, obviously trying to upset her.
Samantha in her upset state, Freddie Kruger clearly being a touchy subject, yelled out whist nearly in tears
“SHUT UP DONNIE, NO HE WONT!”
He then made his way over to her homework and scoffed, picking up her copy of The Outsiders and mumbled “mediocre.”
He then proceeded upstairs, leaving the minute he’d managed to make someone else feel bad. Typical.
You rolled your eyes at his cruelty. Of course she wouldn’t be reading fucking Dostoevsky at her age.
Remembered what it was like being in an English class with Donnie gave you a headache. He had great ideas but god forbidden you had an opposing idea. He would scoff and roll his eyes. It drove you crazy. He wasn’t always like that thought, at one point he used to encourage your ideas and even swap notes with you.
You were cut from your thoughts once again when the door bell went again, fortunately this time the pizza man was the one on the other side.
Sam ate some pizza, you no longer felt hungry but you did eventually managed to calm Sam down. The pair of you just chatted about whatever she wanted. She was telling you about some childish drama in her friendship group and you nodded your head pretending like it wasn’t the funniest shit you’d ever heard. Childhood drama is always hilarious when you’re no longer a child.
Despite being distracted by Sam, you kept thinking about the boy upstairs. “Do you think your brothers eaten?”
Sam shrugged her shoulders “who cares?” annoyance laced in her voice at the mention of her older brother.
You said nothing and proceeded with her homework.
Once she had finally finished she was ready to sleep. Her expression exhausted and she yawned after almost every word of her sentence.
“I’m- not even like- that- tired.”
You giggled at her before telling her she should probably head up to bed but you did promise to braid her hair first.
“Thanks for keeping me company (y,n), you were always my favourite out of Donnie’s friends” she smiled and hugged you at the bottom of the staircase.
The word ‘friend’ lingered for a while in your head. It was true, you were friendly at a time. It sucked because he felt good to be around for a time.
You stayed downstairs as she marched off to bed, whispered a sweet “goodnight” as she made her way to bed.
There was still around an hour and a half until Eddie and Rose were supposed to be home and you hadn’t seen anything of Donnie since he had come home. It was weird, you felt like you hated him but you also wanted to be around him. You especially wanted to know why he hated you. A part of you hoped that maybe he’d go back to his old self but instead you pushed him into the back of your mind and stared to clean up a little.
Once you had cleared up you sat onto the couch and grabbed a book from your bag and stared to read. You only had a few chapters left so decided to try and finish them tonight.
You were so drawn into the book that you didn’t realise a familiar figure loomed behind you. Donnie stood behind the couch reading over your shoulder. After a couple second of you not noticing his presence, he leaned down to your ear.
“Good choice.”
You jumped and your head snapped round to Donnie, almost slapping him out of instinct as a small yelp slipped past your lips.
“What the fuck Donnie. I could have woken up your sister. What’s wrong with you?”
His face was close to yours, and a small smile crept onto his face as he watched your second of distress. “Hello to you too (y,n)”
“Why are you being so friendly? Thought you couldn’t stand me?” You asked with your brows furrowed and your tone daring. You weren’t even with his stupid friend anymore so you had no clue why he was still such a dick.
“I’ve never said that.”
His answer was short and blunt but he had that smug grin on his face. Not one that radiated happiness or flirtation but something else. Power maybe? Like a wolf who had corned a bunny and laughed hysterically as it tried to escape.
You didn’t try to escape from him though. You kept your eyes locked onto his, not daring to dart your eyes away as a sign of weakness.
“You didn’t have to.”
He however did not have any snarky remarks in response. Instead he made his way round to the spot on the couch next to you and snatched the book from your hands.
“Ah 1984. George Orwell. You know when I tried to explain to your small minded boyfriend. Oh no. Ex-boyfriend, the concept of this book it was exhausting.” He rolled his eyes dramatically with that mean playful look on his face.
Why on earth was he doing this? Mentioning your ex boyfriend, calling his own friend small minded, even speaking to you. You racked your brain on why he was doing this. Sure you had known he hated you but that usually manifested itself through his lack of interest in engaging with you or his need to argue with everything you ever said. Now it was like he was taunting you by giving you this almost flirtatious, slightly sadistic attention. It was so odd but so hypnotising.
“But then again, I never did understand why he was with someone like you.”
You couldn’t tell if that was a compliment or an insult. Someone like you? What exactly did that entail.
“What are doing Donnie?”
Your brows were furrowed slightly and your eyes a little sad, completely fed up of trying to work out his cruel ways, or even justify them to yourself.
You and Donnie had been somewhat friends before you started dating his best friend, but as soon as you did he became a new person. When you’d occasionally chat in the library about whatever book you were studying he’d always smile or when you’d catch each other on the way home and he’d be a little awkward but totally engaged with whatever you were saying, it was nice. That all came to a stop when his friend had started to pay you attention. You thought maybe Donnie felt as though you’d stolen his best friend and for that you did truly feel sorry.
You were now face to face in the dimly light room. Just a lamp illuminated the two faces.
“What were you doing (y,n)?”
He was no longer smug but he had caught and attitude with you. There something underlying in this anger in his voice. A deep irritation sat on his tongue.
“What do you want me to say Donnie? Sorry I didn’t live up to the expectation of being your friends dream girl, or sorry that you felt abandoned by him?
He shook his head and let out a hysterical laugh. As if your words were a pathetic joke.
“Ugh (y,n) I honestly thought you were smarter than this. I didn’t give a fuck about losing ‘crucial friend time’” He mocked.
“It frustrated me that someone as smart as you would even consider giving someone like that your time of day. Someone who you couldn’t converse with about anything slightly philosophical or opinions on a new book or poetry, because ‘books are useless, or ‘metaphors are stupid’. Mimicking his best friends voice as he spoke.
You said nothing. You were speechless and your brain hurt from trying to work him out. You just thought to yourself after his little outburst. Then it hit you. Was this jealousy?
“Why do you care so much Donnie? It’s not like I could talk about poetry or a new fucking book with you. You wouldn’t even talk to me.”
You snapped back, testing him. Was he truly jealous of not you, but your ex?
You were both still face to face. Inches away from each other.
“Only after you climbed into bed with someone who didn’t deserve you.” His voice was assertive and filled with envy yet his voice was low.
The realisation on how close you two had gotten finally hit the both of you. You were staring at him with your lips slightly parted and a slight confusion brushed your features. Why did you find this hot? God, you told yourself this was wrong but the sound of jealousy in his voice made your chest heave with excitement.
The sound of your heart beat was loud, it felt as though your heart had been placed to your ear. His lips were so close to yours. But you were upset, with another overwhelming feeling aching in your chest. Lust?
His eyes were still fixed on yours. “It should have been my bed you were climbing in.”
He brought his fingers up to your jaw possessively.
The two big black holes that had replaced his usual pupils drew you in. His eyes trailed down to your slightly parted lips. There was a part of you that wanted to cry and shout at him for being such a dick, but you couldn’t. It was like you had been hypnotised. Or maybe you’d just awoken from the trance you’d been under. This complete and utter blindness towards Donnie’s feeling towards you, or yours for him.
Amongst your silence he crashed his lips to yours. The kiss was hard and desperate. He pushed his tongue past your lips and you let a small moan slip. His hands cupped either side of your jaw as his teeth sank into your bottom lip.
A small hiss left your lips at the sharp pain that send a shock through your body. Donnie’s hand trailed down from your jaw to neck and his hand slowly snaked it’s way around to your throat. He added a little pressure, not enough to hurt you but just enough to make you feel everything more intensely whilst his other hand brought some hair behind your ear.
He pulled away from the kiss, keeping his hand exactly as they were and just admired the mess of emotions plastered along your face. Anger, confusion, fear and lust. To him you looked like a beautiful oil painting, so many different things happening at once and he got to be the observer. The artist even, controlling what you felt next.
“Donnie” You whispered.
“Shh baby. I’ve got you now.” There was an element of comfort in his voice but mainly possession. A wider grin played on his face as he said those words, violently bringing his lips to yours once again.
The feeling of his long fingers inching closer up skirt and thighs made you want to cry out and tell him exactly where to touch you. But you didn’t.
The slight pressure from his veiny hand wrapped around your neck and the near brushes to your clit through your underwear, were getting you so worked up.
“Donnie, please.” you whispered against his lips, your voice quiet and needy.
He practically growled in response “Oh now you want me? Such a slut.”
As you whimpered underneath his tough he chucked into your ear. “Bet he couldn’t make you feel this good.”
You came quickly under his palm, your head was a mess. There was so many emotions running through, it was like ecstasy. He was a drug.
“Mhm, good girl. If only you hadn’t been so stupid, could have had this ages ago.”
He pulled his fingers out of you and brought them to your lips.
Taking them into your mouth and swirling your tongue around his fingers while he starred at you intently, made him throb hard.
Snatching his fingers from your lips he grabbed your jaw harshly.
“Now be a good girl and sit.” He motioned to the spot on the floor between his legs. “Cmon baby, sit.”
You obligated, desperate to hear him feel good. Desperate to win his approval by being the cause of his pleasure.
Sat on your knees in between his thighs, he sat on the couch and wiped the mess from the corners of your mouth with his hand. The same hand in which his fingers had been inside you.
Reaching for his zipper, his hand caught your wrist tightly as he peered down at you.
“Did I say you can touch me?” From your angle he looked so much bigger than he was.
You huffed out a small whine, “Please can I touch you Donnie. Please?” You looked up at him with doe eyes, it used to work on him when you wanted him to do something for you. Usually homework. And it did.
He now brought his lips in between his teeth, admiring how pretty you looked on your knees.
He nodded his head and you quickly undid his zipper and brought his jeans down to his ankles.
The hard erection confined to his underwear made your mouth melt. You kissed him over his tight underwear and he groaned quietly.
Staring up at him innocently, he nodded his head, giving you permission to take off his underwear. Immediately you pulled down his underwear and grab him by his base.
You licked him from his hard base to his red tip and started to kitten lick around the top of his cock.
Donnie breathed heavily and grabbed your hair into a make shift pony tail roughly.
“Stop teasing (y,n) or I swear-“
The warning was enough for you to cut him off by taking him into your mouth suddenly. You bobbed your head and licked his veins as his grip on your hair got tighter.
“Fuck. Gonna cum soon. Look at me.”
He pushed you onto his dick deeper, it violently hitting the back of your throat as your eyes watered.
The sight sent him over the edge, shooting his cum down your throat as you swallowed submissively.
He let go of your hair and offered his hands to help you up, once again wiping away the mess he’d made from your lips with his finger.
“It was nice to see you again (y,n).”

Girl, Put Your Records On | Eddie Roundtree x Reader
A/N: I haven't seen any fics with him, so I had to make one. I love his character so much.
Blurb: Being the daughter of a music producer has its perks, and one of those is meeting Daisy Jones and The Six's Eddie Roundtree.
Warnings: Just fluff and a hit of angst, implied intercourse (no detail)
Daisy Jones and The Six Masterlist
Tumblr media
Being the daughter of a music producer had it's perks. For starters, you were able to listen to new albums and singles before anyone else. While the rest of the world waited for upcoming releases, you were already taking the record out of its sleeve and putting it on the phonograph.
Not to mention all the artists and bands you were able to meet. Your father was constantly popping open a bottle of champagne to celebrate his clients to celebrate their upcoming albums and tours.
Although you were too young to drink yourself, it was nice to feel included. Being there with your father, surrounded by new and interesting people with dozens of stories to share.
But being the daughter of a music producer has its downsides, too. On the smaller scale, sometimes your favorite songs wouldn't make the cut. When you were younger, it hit harder. But as you got older, you just accepted it and moved on.
That wasn't the only down that the role came with, however. You were a young, beautiful, kind girl with a heart of gold and a lot of love to give. Not many men in the industry had any problem taking advantage of that.
There was a thrill to it, for them. Sneaking around with their producer's daughter with the possibility of getting caught at any moment. You were sixteen when you had your first love. He told you all the right things, did all the right things. But the night before he left, he tried to convince you to "live in the moment" while leading you to his van.
It didn't take long for you to realize what was happening, so you freed yourself from his grasp, shoving him back and walking back inside your home.
He was too old for you, anyway. He was twenty, and you were still a kid. It wasn't right, but it was the seventies and he was gaining popularity. It didn't matter what he did, he had every girl in America wrapped around his finger. You, however, had made the choice not to be one of them.
A few years later, when you were nineteen, an up and coming group walked inside your father's studio. He was hesitant about letting them record, but he trusted Teddy and gave them a shot, alllowing you to sit inside the sound booth to hear them play.
You could see the nervousness written all over their faces as they got ready to play. They wanted to impress Teddy, and you didn't blame them. He wasn't easy to read.
Reclining in your seat beside Marcus, who gradually increased the volume on the lead vocalist and lowered the sound of the guitars, you smiled as you listened to them play.
By the end of their demo, you were on the edge of your seat waiting to find out whether or not they'd get an offer.
While Teddy went to discuss it with your father, you stepped out of the sound booth and made your way towards the group.
Smiling, you held out a hand to the only woman, who was closest to you when you walked in, introducing yourself, "Hey, I'm Y/N."
Karen gave you a gentle smile, shaking your hand, "Nice to meet you, I'm Karen."
The drummer, who was fiddling with his drum sticks, hollered over her, "That's Karen Karen."
Raising a brow, you couldn't help but release a small laugh, "Karen Karen?"
The blonde shot him a look, "Fuck off, Warren."
Warren grinned, nodding his head as a way of greeting you.
Beside him, the lead vocalist looked over at you, "Is there something you need, Samantha?"
"It's Y/N," You corrected, "And I just wanted to say I like your sound. It's different. I think you guys have a good chance of getting a deal."
One of the guitarists, the one with curly hair who had been ogling Karen for the past half hour, smiled up at you from his seat on the amp, "Thank you, Y/N. Our main focus is creating music that people l-"
"For the love of God, Graham, shut up," The vocalist grumbled, turning back towards you, "Look, it's nice to meet you, but we're a bit busy here."
Graham held his hands up in surrender, returning to fiddling with his guitar, mouthing "sorry" to you.
The fifth member of the group, who had been nervously tapping his foot flashed his bandmate an irritated look, "C'mon, Billy, she's just being nice. At least people actually like our music."
"Eddie, all I'm saying is that we need to spend less time socializing and more time figuring out what we do if we don't get this deal."
On that note, you cleared your throat, "You'll get the deal."
Simultaneously, Eddie and Billy spoke over one another, the former asking if you really thought so and the latter asking how in the hell you knew.
"I know Mr. L/N well, and so does Teddy. Look, the last few bands Teddy has invested in haven't been doing too great. But I really think you guys have a chance. I know you guys do."
Eddie gave you a lopsided smile, "They liked us in Pittsburgh, I don't see how this is any different."
Billy glared back at him, "If you'll excuse us, I think we have a few things to discuss."
Nodding, you turned to exit, giving the band one last smile. But before you could step out the door, Teddy came back in with your father in tow.
Teddy looked at the band, "We're giving you a shot, don't blow it."
The band, who Teddy had earlier referred to as The Six, erupted in smiles, hugging each other and patting one another on the back.
Your dad wrapped an arm around you, addressing the band, "I see you've met my daughter?"
Billy's eyes widened a bit. He thought you were just some random kid. But you had been in the sound booth, he should've known better.
Warren, who was very obviously high, nodded, "Yeah, she's hot."
Wincing, Karen glared at him, "She's been very kind, Mr. L/N."
Your dad eyed Warren, kissing you on the head before congratulating the band one last time, kissing you on the forehead, and walking back to his office.
Once he was out of sight, Eddie took one of Warren's drumsticks out of his hands and smacked him on the head with it, muttering, "Dumbass, that was her dad."
The drummer's mouth formed an "O", "You think he knows?"
"Jesus Christ, Warren," Karen said, shaking her head before turning to Billy, "And you, you need to get the stick out of your ass."
A look of pride settled on Eddie's face. You could tell the two of them didn't see eye to eye just from the small interactions you had with them.
Moving towards the exit, you waved them goodbye, "I'll see you guys around."
Warren and Graham waved happily, Karen and Billy nodded, and Eddie tilt his head to the side with a smile.
Once you were out of earshot, Karen looked back at Eddie, "Jealous, are you, Roundtree?"
"Piss off, Karen."
Warren looked between the two of them, connecting the dots, "Psst, Karen, I think he's jealous."
Rolling her eyes, she flashed him an irritated smile, "Yeah, I figured that out, thanks."
------------------------------------------------------------
Billy: As soon as we got the news and packed up, I ran to the nearest phone to tell Camila. She had always believed in us, and now everything was falling into place.
Karen: I think I went back and got drunk in my room afterwards. We may have gone out to eat, I don't remember. We had been living gig to gig, I was just happy to have an income.
Camila: It was the first time in a while that Billy really seemed happy with how the band was going. He had always believed in it, but I really think it helped him to see that everything was coming into place. That we wouldn't be living in a shack forever.
Warren: I don't even remember being in the studio. I was in my twenties, I was doing anything I could get my hands on. Drugs, alcohol, women. I was just along for the ride.
Karen: I could still kill Warren for telling the producer's daughter, Y/N, that she was hot in front of her dad.
Warren: We all thought it. Especially Eddie. I was just the one who said it.
Eddie: There was something about Y/N that was different. She wasn't just a newfound fan, she believed in us from the start. She and Camila were the first people to have our record in their hands. As for Warren's comment to her dad... She was beautiful, still is, I just think he could've handled it better. A lot better. By not saying anything.
Graham: It was nice to know that someone outside of the band and Teddy believed in us. Moving out to LA meant that we were starting over. In Pittsburgh, nearly the whole city had heard of us. At least, the people our age.
Eddie: That day was a turning point for the band.
Camila: There was no going back after that. They started recording and within a month, they were on their first tour.
------------------------------------------------------------
You came to every recording session The Six had, excitedly listening to their songs and giving input. You studied the way Marcus moved the volume and reverb, making a mental note of it. What he did had always fascinated you, and he was willing to teach you. It was one of the perks of being F/N L/N's daughter. People bent over bsckwards to make you happy.
Over the course of their time recording, you went out for drinks a few times with them.
You met Camila, who you adored, and quickly became friends with. You wouldn't have changed any of it for the world.
Well, except one thing.
From the moment you met Eddie Roundtree, your heart hadn't stopped fluttering, skipping a beat every time he walked into the room.
Warren constantly teased the two of you about it, suggesting different ways to release the tension between the two of you.
Karen kicked him under the table, giving him a look that sent fear down his spine.
It made the moment awkward for a minute, but the band could sense it was bound to happen.
Eddie was used to being pushed around by Billy, who was by far the most popular and well-known member of The Six. But for once, he was first place. With you.
The two of you often nursed a glass of champagne, talking to one another at the bar while Graham attempted to flirt with Karen, who wound up finding another guy to hook up with, and Warren fell into a crowd of women.
He took a sip, looking down at you, "What's it like, getting to hear new music before anyone else? Not just ours, but in general."
"It's incredible. Don't get me wrong, being in the studio so much has its ups and downs, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. There's nothing else I can imagine myself doing. That's why I want to work in the sound booth."
"You do?"
"Yeah, Marcus offered to teach me a while back. I just wanted to wait until you guys went on tour. I just want to focus on The Six, just taking it all in."
Eddie bit his bottom lip, "So... You and Marcus...?"
You shook your head, "Are friends. My mother is friends with his. We grew up together, he's just a few years older. He's protective, like how I imagine an older brother would be."
He nodded, "So, are you seeing anyone?"
"No," You let out a shaky breath, not meeting his eyes, "Are you?"
"No, are—I already asked you that," He said nervously, swirling his glass in his hand, "Do you... Have an interest in... You know, seeing anyone?"
"It depends on who it is," You said, heat rising to your cheeks, "And you? Anyone on your mind?"
He set down his glass, looking at you, "There is."
Meeting his eyes, you turned your back to the counter, leaning on it for support, "What's she like?"
"You have a mirror?"
You burst out laughing, "Is that your best line, Eddie? C'mon, you can do better than that."
He put his head in his hands, embarrassed.
Pressing a hand to his back, you used your other to pry his head away from his hands, "Don't worry, you can make it up to me."
Raising a brow, he tilted his head, "And how can I do that?"
"Pick me up on Friday at six."
"That's the day before tour starts."
"I know."
He nodded, "Wear something nice."
"Don't I always," You tease, stumbling into his chest.
He lifted the glass from your hands, "You know what I mean. I do, however, think you've had enough of this. C'mon, I'll drive you home"
------------------------------------------------------------
Warren: I was so happy to see Eddie leaving with Y/N. He was growing up, leaving the nest. It was about time he got laid.
Eddie: I drove her home. She had driven herself, but I was worried with her having three glasses. Truthfully, I just wanted to see her get home safe. And she did. I dropped her off at her door, walked her up, and waited until she got inside before I left. Once I got back in the car, it hit me—I had a date with Y/N.
Karen: I think he was more excited about the date than the record deal.
Eddie: It had just been a big few months. Moving to LA, getting a deal, meeting Y/N. Things were finally going my way.
------------------------------------------------------------
Eddie: Long distance relationships weren't easy by any means. I was the one who had to call, since we were constantly moving around. It strained us a bit, but she was able to go to a few of our concerts and I got to see her, take her out a few times.
Karen: Y/N visited us while we were in the northeastern part of the states. She stayed with us for a week and a half. And I never got any damn sleep while she was with Eddie. They could've been quieter, but I guess it was young love.
Eddie: She had her own hotel room during her time staying with us. Her dad set it up. We'd just stay in mine talking to one another.
Warren: Eddie swore nothing happened in his hotel room when he was alone with her, but I was on the other side of the wall. Look, I was pretty high, but it'd be hard to forget that. I may have been the one to call her hot, but he was the one that took it three, four steps further. Good for him, though.
Eddie: It was only when we got back from the tour that things started to go downhill with me and Y/N.
Camila: After I gave birth to Julia, Billy checked into Rehab. I was on my own for a while. But when the band came back, they were there to help me. Julia enjoyed time with Uncle Graham and Eddie, and Y/N whenever she was off work.
Graham: Eddie and I were there a few times a week just helping out and checking in on Camila and Julia. I loved that kid more than anything. We'd just sit out in the grass and I'd sing to her.
Eddie: Camila needed all the help she could get, especially with Billy not being there. Not that he would've done much anyway, to be honest. I tried to be there for her and Julia in any way I could. I didn't realize that it would tear Y/N and I apart.
------------------------------------------------------------
"Eddie, I barely ever get to see you. Can't you go one day without seeing Camila and Julia? You can stay with me. It's better than that shack."
"That shack is my home, whether it's shit or not, Y/N," He grumbled, "Camila needs all the help she can get with Julia. She's only a few months old."
"Her mother is with her, Eddie. She's got her mom, Graham, the whole band really. It's not that I don't want you to be with them, I just want to see you. I never get to see you."
Eddie sighed, "Y/N, they mean everything to me."
"They're your bandmates, I get it, I just—"
"Y/N..."
It was written all over his face. He wasn't just talking about The Six.
------------------------------------------------------------
Karen: We'd all known, except for maybe Billy and Camila, that Eddie was in love with Camila. We just thought that he had put those feelings aside when he met Y/N.
Warren: Out of all the girls Eddie had dated, which hadn't been much, she was my favorite. She was fun, she kept up with us, she was passionate about music and the band. When they broke up, I nearly snapped the guys neck. And I'm not a violent guy. She just deserved better than whatever the hell that was.
Eddie: Camila and Billy were married. I would never have come in the way of that. At the same time, it wasn't fair to Y/N. I loved her with my whole being, but I still had some unresolved feelings for Camila that started stiring when Billy was gone. It's wrong, and I know that, but it wasn't fair.
Graham: Eddie was an idiot for what happened. I remember when he came back from their first date. He swore up and down that they'd get married one day.
------------------------------------------------------------
When the band broke up, everyone went their separate ways. Karen continued touring, this time without Daisy and The Six. Warren got married and started working on boats, which became a passion for him. Billy stepped away from music and settled into life with Camila and his daughters and Graham continued working in the music industry, starting his own family. Daisy recovered from her addictions, and wound up adopting kids of her own.
These all took years to play out. But not for Eddie.
As soon as the band was over with, the first thing he did was buy a ticket to LA and knock on Y/N's door.
He explained everything and told her he loved her, he always had.
------------------------------------------------------------
Y/N Roundtree: Eddie proposed to me the night he showed up on my doorstep. He told me he couldn't imagine a life without me. I was touched.
Eddie: But she said no.
Y/N: I loved him, but I told him it would take time. We still had so much we didn't know about each other. It had been ages since I had seen him. I didn't even know that the Six had split up until he told me. He was back in LA that fast after the split.
Eddie: We did get to know each other, though. And I proposed almost a year later. We got married a few months after that. And the rest is history.
Y/N: It was a quiet ceremony. Eddie didn't want Billy there, and thought it may be a bit off putting for me to have Camila there. But I knew how much he cared about her and the girls, so we extended an invite.
Camila: Billy and Eddie never really saw eye to eye, and with Billy finally getting comfortable with family life, I didn't think it would be good to thrust him back into that.
Eddie: Y/N was a little upset they chose not to come, but understood. If you invite half a family, it doesn't exactly work.
Billy: I was surprised Eddie found the balls to get married.
Y/N: It wound up just being Eddie's immediate family, mine, Marcus, Warren, and Graham. Daisy showed up a few days earlier to congratulate us on our wedding, bringing a guitar with her as a gift. She just didn't think being back in that environment would be good for her. There would be too many questions.
Daisy: Just because the band was over doesn't mean the music couldn't continue. Eddie was a good guitarist and Y/N knew everything about managing sound and rhythms, so I figured it was an appropriate gift. I was really happy for them.
Eddie: Karen was touring at the time and wasn't able to make it, but she visited once the tour was over and stayed a few days.
Y/N: I preferred having a smaller wedding, with the people we knew the most.
Warren: They had great alcohol. I wasn't high during the reception, so I was actually able to enjoy it. I even met my wife there.
Graham: It made me long for a relationship, honestly. But it also made me realize I need to focus on myself first. I didn't want to just settle to settle.
Y/N: Our son was born a year and a half after we got married and music was automatically a big part of his life. He'd sit on Eddie's lap at not even a year old while Ed played the guitar. I still have pictures of them back then on the mantle.
Grant Roundtree, Eddie and Y/N's oldest son: I remember when I decided I wanted to pursue music. Dad sat me down and explained what happens when you achieve fame and how to handle it. Mom told me that I needed to take it one step at a time and really enjoy my childhood.
Farrah Roundtree, Eddie and Y/N's daughter: Grant never stopped playing that damn guitar mom gave him.
Grant: Sometimes I played just to drive Farrah and Eli crazy. I never stopped.
Eli Roundtree, Eddie and Y/N's youngest son: I wanted to be just like Grant when I was younger. He was my cooler, older brother. He even taught me how to play the guitar and I could carry a tune, but my stage fright got in the way of anything beyond that.
Eddie: Grant went into the music field, Farrah pursued modeling and is now acting, and Eli is just now graduating from high school, planning to attend college this fall.
Y/N: I'll always be grateful for Daisy Jones and The Six, but I've got to be honest—I'm even happier it ended when it did.
Eddie: Everything happens for a reason, and for me, it couldn't have ended at a better time.

<< Part 2 --- Part 4 >>
Tumblr media
Halloween was Y/n's favorite holiday. She always loved an excuse to look weird. After finishing her makeup, she went to look in her closet. She moved the tapestry that hung in the closet doorway and turned on the light to search through her clothes. She threw on her outfit and an oversized black jacket before deciding it was good enough. Y/n grabbed her bag and walked down the hall and straight into the bathroom. Messing with her hair until it was a good and proper mess, she smiled to herself and walked into the dining room for breakfast.
Y/n's stepdad made a face when she walked in but went back to reading the newspaper. "Hey, man," she greeted Max, ruffling her hair. Max smiled, eating her cereal.
"Y/n, I know it's Halloween and all, but do you think you might try and look a little more... n-normal?" her mother asked, walking into the kitchen with a sigh. Y/n rolled her eyes, "Ma, I'm going to dress how I want to. I don't care if people don't like it. Screw 'em," she replied, biting into her Eggo, and following Billy and Max out the front door. Billy passed her his lighter and they were on their way.
Y/n tapped her nails on the Zippo, wondering if kids dressed up here like they used to in California. Her wonders were answered when Billy swerved into the parking lot that had no costumes in sight going in or out of either school.
Guess they save them for later. Y/n thought.
She went into the school and straight to her locker. Students stared at her as she walked through the halls, some whispering or giving her dirty looks. Y/n shrugged, grabbed her books, and walked into first period and into the same seat from the day before. Nancy gave her a smile and turned around to talk.
"Hey! Cool makeup!" she said.
Y/n smiled and thanked her, waving at Robin and Samantha who were sitting by a guy she didn't see the day before. He had long brown curly hair that came down to his shoulders, wearing mostly black with some band t-shirt on with his feet propped up on the desk.
The boy stared at her between the two girls he was talking to. Samantha looked behind her when she noticed he wasn't paying attention to the conversation. She sent him an amused smile when she saw he was staring down Y/n as she chatted with Nancy.
"So, you gonna go talk to her or just stare like a creep?" Samantha asked, turning back to the boy in front of her. "Huh?" he replied, still staring at the black-haired girl across the room. Robin looked over her shoulder and smirked. "She'd never go for him. No way," Robin said, shaking her head. Samantha snickered.
"Why wouldn't she?" the boy asked, now interested in what they had to say.
"Eddie, come on. She's actually pretty cool. I feel like she wouldn't want to hang around you unless in small doses," Robin replied.
Eddie crossed his arms and glanced at the girl again.
"I didn't even know we had a new girl!" Eddie huffed, "Would've been nice to know," he added.
"Munson! Feet down and eyes front!" the teacher called so he could start class. Eddie rolled his eyes, dropping his feet. He kept sneaking glances at the new girl who caught his attention. Here's this girl, brand new to Hawkins, showing up in all black in platforms with black hair and dark makeup you only see on metal bands. How could he not find her interesting?
Class dragged on with Eddie continuing to stare, and Y/n continuing not to notice. The girl slipped off her jacket, causing Eddie's eyes to widen at the art littering her arms.
Tattoos.
Eddie Munson's weakness.
Eddie set his cheek on his hand with a dreamy smile. Robin would've sworn he had hearts in his eyes. He tried to discreetly lean to see the ink on her back but failed to do so before the bell rang.
He sighed in defeat. Eddie didn't have big enough balls to approach her and was hoping he could just see her again in another class.
Y/n entered her second period, smiling at Robin and Nancy who beat her there. "Y/n! Settle something for me," Nancy said, calling her attention. Y/n hummed, agreeing to help out. "So, I have this friend... he's kind of a loner, sits by himself, you know? But we're friends! And there's this Halloween party tonight and I think he's going to come because Steve and I and our friends are going and I think if we all go, he's going to want to go so he won't miss out on the fun! But Steve says Jonathan isn't going to care if we're all there or not. What do you think?" Nancy asked.
Y/n nodded, thinking. "I mean if he goes or not won't really affect the night. So, either way, I don't think it matters. If the guy's antisocial then he's antisocial. Can't do much about it," she replied, shrugging. Nancy saw her point and decided she would end the Jonathan concept with a bet on who would be right.
"Are you going?" Nancy asked. "Where?" Y/n replied. Nancy gave her a deadpan look. "To the party!" Nancy said.
Y/n stared at her with wide clueless eyes. Nancy sighed in defeat.
"Y/n, the Halloween party Tina's throwing tonight," she said. Y/n thought for a second before she remembered what they were talking about. Her face lit up in realization, earning a laugh from Nancy.
"Uh, I don't know man. I didn't even know there was one," Y/n said slowly. Nancy gripped her hand with a sly smile on her face.
"You're coming." Well, it's decided then!
Y/n shrugged and agreed on the condition that she got to ride along with Nancy and Steve. Y/n didn't feel like going to a party with Billy ass her ride because then she would end up having to walk home and that was for losers.
Y/n was not a loser.
Nancy was okay with it, so Y/n was okay to go. The teacher got up and started his lesson, offering candies to kids who got the answers right. Y/n, really just starved for candy, raised her hand every time. Even if she didn't know the answer. Still, she tried. Nancy gave her an amused look on the way out of the classroom at her carrying all her candies in her jacket with a satisfied smile. Y/n was content. She had food and all it took was playing a guessing game. She smiled like a goof all the way to the music room.
Y/n sat down in a different spot closer to the rest of the class that all sat in a big clump in the center of the chairs the music teacher had set up. Robin was doing some test in another class, so Y/n didn't expect to see her in third that day. She pulled out a little Hershey's bar and popped it in her mouth, doing a little dance as she ate it. She looked up in confusion when someone came in and ran right back out of the classroom.
Eddie Munson was currently freaking out in the hallway. Him and Y/n had the same third period. Music. Even better! Eddie loved music. He could roll with that. There was still a possibility that she was in his lunch or the last classes of the day, but the fact that she was in the same class right now was mind-blowing. Eddie took a deep breath, fluffed up his hair, and walked with fake confidence back into the music room. His heart almost melted at Y/n bopping to herself in her seat just because she had some candy. Eddie smiled to himself, hiding his grin behind his hair while he sat in the end seat in the row she was sitting in.
"Okay, uh... Hey! I'm Eddie. You're pretty. Wait- no. That's so stupid, what the fuck?" Eddie mumbled to himself. "What's up? I'm Eddie. I've never seen you here before," he whispered, mumbling curses and other various insults to himself. He was not smooth at all. The number of times Eddie had talked to a pretty girl successfully had yet to reach double digits. People just thought he was weird. Girls especially.
Eddie glanced over at her every five seconds. He was trying his best to be stealthy he really was. Was it working? Absolutely not...
A couple of the guys that sat in that class noticed his behavior and decided to call him out on it. "Hey, Munson! You got a new victim to stalk or are you just tweaking?" the random dickhead laughed. Eddie rolled his eyes and crossed his arms, looking like a toddler in time out.
Y/n furrowed her eyebrows, confusion clear on her face. "What's your issue, man?" she asked the dick two rows up. He scoffed, "That freak's been staring at you all class. You probably would've noticed if you weren't pigging out on candy." Y/n sent him a bored expression and sighed, "Alright brother. My love for candy has nothing to do with you overcompensating for your tiny cock and balls." Eddie let out a loud "ha!" before covering his mouth. "Whatever. You're probably both freaky psychos," the tiny penis man sneered. "Hey, you got a cool dog. What breed is it?" Y/n asked the asshole's friend.
The music teacher butt in before they could fight anymore with a warning and started class. Eddie took that as his chance. He quietly slid down the row until he sat a seat away from Y/n. "Thank's for that," he whispered. She smiled at her notebook and looked up at him. "No biggie. Dude was acting a fool," Y/n replied. Eddie snickered and pretended to pay attention to take notes in his own book.
Y/n snuck a peek at his book and smiled to herself at what he was actually writing. Eddie had drawn a stick figure with long hair and a guitar with lightning coming out of it. "Is that for monsters or something?" Y/n whispered, pointing out the lightning bolts with her pencil. Eddie looked up at her and down at her notes. He twirled his pen and drew another little stick figure on the corner of her page. Y/n laughed and drew a smiley face on his paper. They went back and forth until class ended. Eddie quickly drew an arrow pointing to the stick figure he drew on her paper and put Eddie in his messy handwriting.
"Who's Eddie?" Y/n laughed.
Eddie stood up with a flourish before motioning to himself. Y/n giggled and stood up after shoving her books into her bag.
"Well, go ahead and name that smiley face Y/n for me," she said. "That's you?" Eddie asked like he didn't already know. Y/n nodded, starting to walk out of class. "See ya, Eddie."

Honey - Steve Harrington x Single Mother! Reader - pt 2
Welcome to part two of my single mum fic! Sorry it's taken me so long to get this out, but I sort of screwed myself over, I left it at a place I couldn't figure out where to go from there. But I hope you guys like this! Xxx ____________________________
3rd Person pov
(y/n) hummed to herself as she walked through the aisles of the store, picking up products, glancing at the prices and then putting them back. She had baby Jamie in a wrap, pressed against her chest and Sam was trailing along behind her, holding on to her mama's sweater and her other hand gripping her blanket. A lot of the women in the store had already seen the little family walking around, either frowning in disdain or in absolute shock that the fabled single mother of Hawkins had such well behaved children, she seemed to be taking care of them with such ease!
(y/n) had a smile on her face as she picked up some things for dinner, still slightly humming to herself and the sleeping baby. As much as the glances and the 'quiet' comments bothered her, she was happy, she was away from her past and looking to her future with two wonderful babies!
"(y/n)?" A voice asked from behind her, turning around, she saw a head of dark, curly hair, arms covered in tattoos and a ripped shirt.
"Eddie?" She responded, keeping her voice low and even, looking him up and down, she was shocked at just how little he had changed. The two had been friends when she and her family lived just outside of town. Her father and Wayne had worked at the same car shop until Wayne and Eddie moved further into Hawkins, that was when the two of them were about thirteen.
Leaning an arm over the baby against her chest, she gave him a tight, one armed hug, "It's so good to see you again!" She smiled, already smelling the familiar scent of faint pot... Eddie smiled his signature grin, which quickly dropped when he noticed the children alongside his childhood friend.
"It's great to see you too! Who's this?" He asked, glancing at the baby and again at the toddler. (y/n) smiled shyly, introducing her kids to the metal head.
"These are my kids, this is Jamie, and this is Samantha, we recently moved back here." She told him, seeing his eyes widening in shock as he took them in. They were a family, the three of them, it was immensely obvious just how related the three of them were. They all had the same nose and Eddie could feel they were the same. (y/n) always had a certain aura about her, something that made everyone around her feel calm and soothed. He could see how baby Jamie relaxed into her chest, could see how Samantha got calmer the closer she got to her mother.
Eddie hadn't expected this, he saw her from behind and thought, 'It can't be her, no way, she left years ago...' And obviously there was the sudden show of kids... But she was here, this was the same girl he'd grown up with! And she has kids...
He couldn't wrap his head around it.
"Eddie?" (y/n) was waving a hand in front of his face, he seemed to have broken.
"Eddie?" Another voice seemed to appear from nowhere, coming up behind Eddie and clapping a hand onto his shoulder, startling him from his reverie. "Hey, I couldn't find the cereal you wanted so I just picked up-" Realising the two had company, the voice looked up and saw (y/n).
(e/c) met shocked, chocolate eyes, seeing Steve, the guy she had met the other day. "Steve!" She cheered, earning herself a smile from the young man holding the most sugary cereal she had ever seen and probably wouldn't let her little ones eat.
"Hey! It's good to see you, I wasn't expecting to see you again so soon!" He said, going to shake her hand but realised her hands were a bit full of baby Jamie, who he gave a small smile and a wave to. Turning to see Sam behind her leg, he bent down to say hi, offering her a wave and smile also. Seeing him there, Sam came out from behind her mama's leg slightly and went over to Steve, starting to clamber into his lap, seeing as how he was low to the floor.
(y/n) stuttered, "Sam, honey, Steve might not want to cuddle!" She said quietly, hoping that she would understand and climb down without bawling her eyes out. Steve chuckled and sat firmly on the floor, helping Sam get comfy in his lap.
"It's cool, I'm just glad she likes me!" He said cheerily, smiling up at the young mother, who swore she felt her heart skip a beat at how cute the two of them looked together. At this point, Eddie had finally gotten over the news.
"So... You have kids now! When did that happen? Hey, who's the father?" He asked, his rapid fire question overwhelming even him. (y/n)'s face dropped suddenly, holding Jamie closer to her chest, protectively. Her foot turning towards Sam out of reflex.
Swallowing heavily and clearing her throat, (y/n) responded in a voice Eddie had never heard from her before, "They don't have a dad." It was a sound that was cold and sharp, clearly saying to stop asking. Eddie knew better, so he dropped it, reaching over tentatively to run his finger along Jamie's chubby cheek, eyeing (y/n) cautiously, to make sure that it was okay. She simply smiled her angel smile, her demeanour and bounced the baby in her arms.
Steve and Sam were getting along like a house on fire, she hadn't said a word, happily toying with the man's fluffy hair and listening to him babble and ask questions about how she liked living in Hawkins and what her favourite foods were. (y/n) couldn't help but melt at the scene, she had never seen her little girl so comfortable with anyone other than her, especially a stranger. She worried a little at how her heart skipped a beat, she had felt this feeling before and it hadn't ended well, she didn't want to make the same mistake in men twice.
Eddie seemed to have another revelation seeing Sam and Steve together, "Wait, you two know each other?" He asked curiously, looking between the two of them. (y/n) nodded, beginning to look through the aisles for things on her shopping list again. She began picking up very sensible items, herbs and spice to clearly put in a meal, unlike the children's cereal Steve just picked up for Eddie.
It made Steve realise just how different they were, he was deemed the mom of the group, but (y/n) was literally a mom, and she was kicking ass at it! Steve thought about the amount of times he'd tried to get Eddie to eat a bit healthier, like not buying the cereal that had three times the sugar and was three times the cost of healthy cereal... Seeing how (y/n) was interacting with the kids and Eddie, Steve fully believed that using her angelic voice, her beautiful smile and pure motherly instinct she could get him eating lettuce for every meal!
Steve hadn't realised just how much he had been staring at the young mother until Sam pulled on his hair and Eddie kicked him in the ribs at the same time. "Ow!" He told the metalhead disapproving, rubbing his side. Hearing (y/n) laugh at him was not something he knew he wanted, but it was delightful, like jingle bells... Steve tried to put Sam down to follow her mom down the aisle of the store, but she wouldn't budge, so he lifted himself to his feet, heaving her into sitting on his hip as he himself followed (y/n).
"So what's your plan for dinner tonight lil mama?" He asked the woman cheekily, leading to (y/n) giggling bashfully. Sam began jumping up and down, or as much as she could in Steve's embrace.
"Spaghetti!" She cheered excited, her mom smiling at her lovingly. Steve also smiled at the young girl.
"Spaghetti huh? Your mom's spaghetti must be awesome!" He enthused, loving the look the (y/n) was now giving the both of them at the sweet interaction.
Sam nodded quickly, "It's the bestest!" Causing Steve to chuckle at the sweet error, hearing a soft correction from the young girl's mother, the two practicing the word a few times.
Eddie popped into the conversation, "What's wrong with the word bestest?" He asked, testing the word a few times around his tongue.
"Because it's not a word, Edward." (y/n) admonished gently, "Then again, unless it was vulgar or forbidden, words weren't really your forte, were they?" She teased, Eddie faking a look of offence, placing a hand over his chest.
Sam giggled at the man's antics, "Uncle Eddie's funny!" She laughed, causing (y/n) to smile, but look steadily at Eddie, who had frozen in his shocked ploy, but now the shocked face was incredibly real.
"Did she just say Uncle Eddie?" He asked cautiously, in case he had misheard her, Steve looked on in worry, hoping for both an explanation and to make sure Eddie didn't bail on the small family, instead the metalhead stepped closer to (y/n), asking a question with his eyes.
(y/n) simply smiled at him, "I wanted to have her named after someone close to me," She tried to explain, Eddie immediately interrupting.
"Her name is Samantha, that's nothing close to my name..." He pondered, (y/n) edged closer, taking his hand gently.
"Her full name is Samantha Elizabeth (l/n), I wanted to name her after your mom..." (y/n) looked off, hoping he wasn't angry at her, "I'm sorry if that wasn't okay, I just- I loved your mom and she meant a lot to you as well, so when Sammy was born, that was the first middle name I thought of when I saw her face-"
(y/n)'s rambling was cut off when Eddie pulled her into a hug, being mindful not to squash baby Jamie in the process, "Thank you." He whispered softly, pressing a teary kiss against (y/n)'s forehead in the middle of the frozen aisle.
After the hug was over, Steve watching smiling from the side, not wanting to disturb the peaceful moment between old friends, (y/n) wiped away her own tears. "Well after all that, I am hungry, so I say we get shopping done. You guys wanna come eat with us, I can make plenty?" She offered sweetly.
Steve could see Eddie getting ready to say yes and interjected, "As lovely as that would be, we have to get back to Robin, she'll be getting hangry..." Steve mentioned, causing the sweet smile on (y/n)'s face to droop slightly. Steve was concerned, was it really that hurtful to have to decline her dinner request? Or was she sad about something else? Like him mentioning a 'her'.
Eddie was still buzzing over everything, his old friend returning with two little cherubs, one named after his own mother, he kept chattering, "Robin won't mind, maybe we could invite her, you'd love her (y/n), Robin's our roommate!" He rambled, dancing around on the linoleum tiles, pulling faces to make the kids laugh, and succeeding.
(y/n) paused slightly, "Robin's your roommate? So not a girlfriend or anything?" She tried to ask as subtly as she thought she could be, it wasn't hugely subtle...
Eddie guffawed, a choked laugh, "She should be so lucky! No she's not into either of us in any way!" Eddie laughed, leading (y/n) to relax her shoulders slightly. Steve looked at (y/n), confused but slightly hopeful, maybe she was interested?
At the relaxation, she smiled again, a bright, happy smile, "Sure thing, the more the merrier!" She told the boys, who smiled in appreciation, wondering how that dinner would go... ____________________________________
Sorry this chapter took so damn long! It's been way too long and for that I cannot apologise enough... My brain has been a bit dried up recently, I'm hoping to get back into my writing slowly! I hope you enjoyed it! Xxx

Fictober prompt #29: "That's all? Easy."

Security Questions
Chapter 4: Small Potatoes
Scully stood up and placed her hands on her hips. “I’m not gonna let you off the hook so easily. You came here wanting to talk, so we’re gonna talk. But I think our conversation has been a little one-sided, hasn’t it?”
Mulder wore an expression that bore a vague similarity to a trapped prey animal. “What… what are you talking about?”
“You’ve very skillfully steered the conversation towards me all night, but you’ve barely said a word about yourself. I’ve shared so much with you tonight. Now it’s your turn to tell me something.”
“Uh… okay.” Mulder shrugged, trying and failing to appear nonchalant and confident. “What do you wanna know?”
“First, come sit back down.” She pointed firmly at the couch, and he slowly made his way back, hurrying the last few steps when Scully crossed her arms over her chest and began tapping her foot.
Once he was seated, she sat down again beside him. “Tell me… about your sister. Your clearest, most vivid memory of something you did together when you were kids.”
A relieved smile came over Mulder’s face. “That’s all? Easy.” He started telling a long and elaborate story, with enough specifics to sound believable but general enough that it could’ve been a pleasant memory from almost anyone’s childhood.
Anyone except for Mulder’s, that is. His answer to that particular question was far from pleasant; and while he doubtless had happier memories of Samantha to share, they would all be tinged with a poignant sense of nostalgia and regret, which was utterly absent from him now.
“Wow,” she said when he was finally done. “That’s a fascinating story… Eddie.”

Part 1
💔🖕❓
This by far was the absolute worst summer you have ever had. 3 long grueling months spent with your grandparents in Nevada. You hated the dry heat. It was almost unbearable. But what you truly hated was being away from your best friend. You hadn't spent this much time apart since Eddie went to camp back in 7th grade. Where he inevitably got kicked out and was no longer able to return. In return made you happy because he got to spend summers with yours truly.
3 months of letter writing and phone calls weren't enough for you. You had to see him, hug him, sniff his cologne when he wasn't paying attention. You had love Eddie since your pretend wedding at the old oak tree you guys use to play at when you were 6 years old. Eddie had given you his mom's old ring that he taken before he went to live with his uncle. And you gave him a mood ring that you got from a cracker jack box. Your ring never did fit correctly so you had put it on a chain, still wearing it til this day. Eddie still had his ring too. Well kinda. He had broken the plastic band on it so he took the mood gem and glued it to a band that was a little more him. He wore it all the time. Even now as your senior year was about to start Eddie's 2nd time around. He wore it. Eddie was a year ahead of you but now you guys got to do senior year together. But this year was gonna be different. You were gonna finally tell Eddie how you feel. How you always felt. And if him still wearing that ring means something, you were gonna be going into senior year with a boyfriend.
...
Outside the Munson's trailer you were so giddy with anticipation. It was early, Eddie probably wasn't up yet. But you didn't care if you woke him. You need his hugs. You walked up to the door and before you knocked you heard Eddies guitar. It was coming from the living room. Your heart jumped. He was awake. You eagerly knocked. But your face fell when Eddie wasn't the one who answered the door.
"Hey y/n. How's it going?" Samantha greeted you with a smile.
She looked so different with out all that intense eye makeup she wore to parties. You didn't know her and Eddie were hanging out. He never mentioned her in his letters or phone calls.
"Uhhh hey" you faked a smile. "Is uhh Eddie-"
" There she is!" Eddie yelled from his couch.
You gave him a half smile as you watched him put down his 'one true love' his words. And came to the door. But instead of hugging you. He put his arm around Samantha's shoulder.
" Hey Munson. Uhhh I just wanted to come by and say I'm home." You smiled at both of them not wanting to give yourself away.
"Cool Samantha was just about to leave for work. So we can hang out for a bit before she gets off."
You nodded not sure in what else to do. You looked down to the ground when they kissed each other goodbye.
" I love you" Samantha said giving one last kiss before she left.
" Love you too babe."
What the hell happened this summer? Fuck.
Eddie and you hung out for about an hour. Before everything became to much for you to bear. He explained how he and Samantha Stone hooked up at the Hideout one night and they had been inseparable since. His eyes twinkled when he said her name. He was head over heels for her. That made your heart sink. You thought that maybe you missed your chance with him. But maybe you didn't have a chance at all. Samantha was pretty, thin, and blonde. Everything you were not. You never really had a problem with your weight. It just stung sometimes when the jocks or the cheerleaders would make fun of you. But it was whatever. You were used to it. However you were not use to sharing your best friend to another girl. And though your jealousy was eating at you, you decide as long as Eddie was happy. You had to be happy for him. You left the Munson's still not getting the hugs you waited so long for.
...
First day of school was always the worst. Halls filled with freshman laughing away. Being so damn loud. Stupid kids blocking your locker. Dumbass blondes stealing you guy right from under you.
Ok ok Samantha wasn't dumb to be fair. And she didn't quite steal Eddie away from you. But still that bitch.
You were gonna sit next to Eddie in your homeroom class. But the desk next to him was occupied by none other than the harlot Samantha. They were kiss on each other and that made you nauseous. But you turned your frown upside down when Eddie waved at you. You found a seat just a few rows ahead of the disgusting couple.
You looked up from your text book when the door opened. In came the principal followed by a frizzy blonde hair kid. He look super rough around the edges. He was wearing a denim choker, and a denim vest. He had a white shirt with the sleeves cut off. He wore a brown leather strap on one wrist and a chunky watch on the other holding onto a single notebook.
The principal introduced him to the class.
" Alright kids settle down. This is Vance Hopper. Hopper? Are you related to chief Hopper?"
" uh yeah his my uncle."
" Oh ok well then find a seat."
Vance scanned the class room and found an open seat next to you.
You returned your eyes to your text book. He was cute you thought. Definitely seems like you had a type. Just a few minutes after the tardy bell rang you felt a tap on your shoulder. Vance was looking at you.
" Hey uhh do you have a pencil I can borrow?" You smiled at him while handing him yours. You reached down into your pack stealing a glance at Eddie. They had pushed their desks together. Eddie was whispering sweet nothings into Samantha's ear.
Ugh gross
You pulled out another pencil and continued to work until class was over. You walked behind Eddie and Samantha. Watching them holding hands. You felt tears coming but someone tugged your arm. You turned to piercing blue eyes.
" Uhh I forgot to give you back your pencil."
" Oh no that's ok. You can keep it."
He smiled. " I'm Vance"
"Hi. I'm y/n." You offered up a smile.
" Uhh do you know where I can find this class?" Vance pointed at he scheduled putting the pencil behind his ear and moved closer to you.
You looked down at the sheet. The warmth radiating off his body made you shudder for a second. "Oh yeah I have him too. Ummm just follow me"
You guys walked to the next class. You studied his schedule seeing you had about half of the same classes as him. Making small talk you guys went to class. He sat next to you in all the classes. You quickly became friends. But you noticed how really rough he was. He was someone who definitely didn't shy away from a fight. And he cursed...a lot. guessing he's nothing like Eddie. That was a good thing you thought.
You started hanging out after school and on weekends. There would be times where Eddie would call to hang out, but you always had plans with Vance. It wasn't until one day did things went a step further.
You were at lunch and Vance was walking with you to an empty table. As you passed the hellfire table you saw Eddie watching you two. You gave him a wave and he gave you a small smirk.
When you sat down to eat Vance put his hand on the lower part of your back. You were in shock. A sudden fit of insecurity race to your mind. You face became flushed and your heart was racing. You were suddenly ashamed of your back rolls. But to your surprise Vance was making small circles with his thumb pressing a bit harder into your clothed skin. But a voice brought your focus somewhere else. You looked up and saw Jason Carver and some of his buddies making their way to the table.
" I see you have a habit making nice with the freaks" Jason sneered
" What did you say you dumb shit?" Vance tried to get up but you pulled him back down.
"Oh what. Your really know how to pick them huh thunder thighs. It's nice to know you can get around." Jason said giving you a wink.
" alright today's the day mother fucker" Vance was so quick you didn't even get the chance to stop him. You watched in horror as he took on Jason and all 3 of his buddies. He was totally kicking their ass. This making you feel some type of way. A way you haven't felt for anyone but Eddie.
For a guy of Vance stature he was really fucking strong. He picked Jason up off his feet.
" Come here you bitch! Don't you fuck with her again. Or I'll end your pathetic little life"
The jocks ran off and Vance stood there heaving. You got up and and checked his hands.
" Let's get out of here." He said
You agreed and let Vance pull you out of the cafeteria. Once outside you took the lead. Taking him to the picnic table Eddie usually used to make deals. After a few awkward seconds. You spoke.
" Jesus man that was narly."
" No one is gonna speak to my girl that way!"
His girl? When did that happen? Did you actually mind that sudden relationship change?
" That's cool right? I mean if you want to be." Vance had lost a bit of confidence.
You met his gaze. " umm yeah no it's uhh cool"
He made his way to you and pulled you in for a kiss. Grabbing your ass. You wrapped your fingers in his messy curls as the kiss became heated. He pulled you close so that you could feel his growing erection. But the sounds of twigs breaking pulled you two apart. You looked up and saw Eddie standing there looking like a dear in head lights.
You pulled out of Vance's embrace.
" Uh hey bud" you said nervously
" Shit sorry didn't mean to interrupt. I uhhh just want to see if you were ok?"
" She's fine" Vance spoke for you.
Eddie nodded and turned to leave.
" What's with that guy? Your ex or something."
You pause for a second. " yeah or something. He's uhh my best friend."
A few weeks went by and you and Vance had started seeing each other. Constantly hooking up. He was very forward when it came to sex. It was a nice change of pace for you. He was wild. You couldn't get enough of him. You barely noticed that you hadn't been speaking to Eddie. Though you missed him. Vance made you forget how much.
Vance seemed to be getting into a lot of trouble at school. Constant yelling and fighting became the norm for you. But one day did he really screw things up. He was fighting and accidentally hit a teacher. Causing him to get suspended for 2 weeks. You guys got into a heated argument about it. Which eventually lead to some of the best sex you've had.
The next day you were looking for somewhere to eat at lunch when Eddie waved you over. Samantha wasn't sitting in the spot you sat in before Eddie started to date her. It was weird to say the least. She must be sick or something.
" Hey stranger." Eddie said while you sat in the chair to his right.
" Hey" you replied
As if no one else was at the table Eddie was chatting away. It wasn't until he mention Vance did you feel like a complete ass. You never properly introduced them. But honestly how could you. Eddie was always around Samantha. And well you and Vance were busy with... Stuff.
" You're guy has a real bad temper huh?"
Eddie's question made you move your eyes to his. Oh God how you missed him looking at you. Fuck he was so beautiful. Shit no no you have a boyfriend. You returned your eyes back to your tray.
" umm just a bit"
" A bit?! Jesus H Christ y/n. He literally took out half the basketball team." Eddie paused when you didn't look at him. " Hey he didn't or he doesn't lose it on you does he?"
" Only where it counts" shit...fuck. why did you say that. Ugh now Eddies gonna think you're some type of sadist.
Well more like a submissive. Vance was definitely a dominant. Which it wasn't until this moment did you realize that though it felt good. It never felt nice. Like being cared for.
Eddie didn't say anything to your comment. But he definitely wanted to. He wanted to say that that guy wasn't good enough for you. You needed someone to show you they loved you. Not get into random frivolous fights over meaningless things. To not be so rough with you all the time. To smother you with kisses whenever they got the chance. To show you how much they loved you every second of every day. You were beautiful. You've always been beautiful. Eddie wanted you when he was finally old enough to understand the wanting he had for you was love. He wanted to tell you but he was afraid that it would ruin your friendship. He was scared that you wouldn't feel the same. And his thoughts were confirmed when you acted all nonchalantly when you saw Samantha. You didn't like him back. And what finally broke Eddies heart was when he saw you two kissing in the woods. He was first angry that Vance was touching you but the sudden thought of Samantha made him change his feelings.
She was supposed to be just a hook up. Eddie had missed you so much that he was drinking a lot to fill the hole in his heart that developed when you left for the summer. He was really hoping you would ask him to come with but he knew that was impossible.
So he hooked up with Samantha. But she never left. He had gotten use to her warm body next to him every night. Most of the time wishing it was you he was spooning. You who he was kissing. But he felt bad. He shouldn't be doing that to Samantha. She was a nice girl who deserved someone to actually give her their full attention. So Eddie did that. He shoved his love for you away so that he could give him and Samantha a chance.
But then you came back. And all his feelings returned the moment he saw you. But Samantha was there. So he couldn't. He wanted to hug you so bad. But he just couldn't. He wouldn't hurt Samantha that way. Then she left and said she loved him. Sure they said it before. But you were there, looking as beautiful as the day you two met. Eddie shook off the his feelings and said he loved her too. He immediately regret it. Yes it was wrong of him to say it if he didn't actually mean it. But what could he do. He should have broken up with her and confessed his love for you, but he was a coward. That would be the day he would regret for the rest of his life.
...
The remainder of lunch was filled with awkward glances and silence between you two. Eddie had decided that if you were happy, he would force himself to be happy for you. But he voiced how he missed you. And made plans for you to come over and watch a movie, like old times.
You were apprehensive about it at first. But you agreed. You missed him very much. And a night alone would be a perfect reminder of how deep your friendship went. But unbeknownst to you things were gonna change that night. You were gonna be forced in making a decision you didn't think you would ever have to make.

@lovipop2049 So this is my incoherent, rambling opinion of the Jonathan Ships lol and I decided not to tag the ships because I really hope no one is going to be mad about my opinion. If they do find me please hide me. 🫢 I do love or enjoy all the Jonathan ships so far but I just prefer some dynamics over the others.
I'm so glad you said that! Jargyle is my favorite too. Right exactly they are so perfect and Argyle is so sweet to him and caring and kind its just nice to see Jonathan being treated right for once and be shown so much love and praise and Argyle just babying him and taking care of his kids and showing him nothing but love and support UGGH! It's so adorable. It's the same reason why I love Samantha x Jonathan and Eddithan so much too. But Jargyle is easily my fav.
AHH I figured it out Samantha x Jonathan is SONATHAN. How did I forget that when its spelled so much like Stonathan?
So yeah Sonathan, Eddithan, and Jargyle are my top tier ships. As much as I enjoy Jommy/Stoncy/Stonathan ext, I still favor Jargyle and them.
And seeing someone take care of Jonathan for once instead of him having to take care of them is amazing. He deserves all that love and care and needs it. I can't wait to see Vecna try and come after Jonathan in S5 and Argyle comes in like a handsome prince and saves Jonathan! It better happen. But I guess it doesnt matter cause its already been happening in my head.
Eddithan is my other favorite for the same reason. But Jargyle is still superior imo because its canon I don't have to make up how sweet it is in my imagination-Jargyle was on the show itself while Eddie and Jonathan didn't interact. Not that I'm against non canon ships ofc but I'm sure you know what I mean. Its easier to love a ship where the two are already close and connected to begin with and you don't have to do all the heavy lifting yourself to think of how their relationship is.
I think I got foreverautumn converted finally and supporting Jargyle more than Stonathan. I love Stonathan and that don't get me wrong, but Jargyle is superior and I'm tired of Argyle being overlooked because of Steve supposedly being prettier and better than Argyle and how hes a fan fav.... it makes me mad. Like I'm sorry but thats bs. Argyle deserves Jonathan a lot more than Steve ever has. Argyle has done so much for Jonathan, got him to trust and open up, and Argyle's entire storyline has been about how he supports Jonathan and helps him through everything and makes him happy. I'm tired of people saying Argyle is dumb too when S4 clearly showed how smart he was if it wasn't for him they wouldn't have saved El in the first place and it was his whole idea to go to Surfer Boy so El could piggyback and rescue Max. As much as I love Steve and Stonathan, Jargyle is the superior ship.
I really enjoy Jommy too but I want to see more of us all getting away from it just being the second coming of Stonathan. Because Tommy and Steve may be similar, but Tommy isn't Steve and I'd like to see to see how Tommy treats Jonathan differently and how his relationship with Jonathan goes instead of him just being Steve 2.0. Especially since Tommy treats his S.O. better.
Yeah I want to be clear-No hate to Byergrove or the Byergrove shippers at all. I see the appeal of Byergrove and I love foreverautumn's headcanon of it where Steve and Billy are fighting over Jonathan and how much depth and character development went into that. Billy is so hate-able in that especially because hes trying to break up Steve and Jonathan just so he can have Jonathan, but hes also loveable in that because of how much appreciation he shows to Jonathan and how he keeps bettering himself for Jonathan. I found myself cheering on Billy momentarily because its sweet how he thought Jonathan was worth fighting for and how Billy changed for the better and became a good big brother to Max once Jonathan got ahold of him. There are times I love Byergrove just because its always a really compelling story, but at the same time I wouldn't call myself a Byergrove shipper.
I love Billy I really do I think hes a really interesting and complex character and he really adds to the plot of the headcanons and stories, but I always favored the ships like Jargyle and Eddithan where its someone taking care of Jonathan and showing him love and support instead of the ships where its Jonathan saving them in more ways than one and fixing their lives and helping them and taking care of them and helping them to grow up [like Stonathan/Stoncy/Byergrove/Jommy]. Not that I don't like those stories, I love those stories and those ships and see the appeal cause it shows how special and heroic Jonathan is and puts him in the spotlight and shows off what makes him such an amazing person, but I prefer the ships where the SO takes care of Jonathan instead.
Jonathan doesn't need even more people to baby and take care of he needs to be taken care of and showed a lot of love and support. I guess I favor the 'fluffy' type of relationships too much. Don't get me wrong I love the angst and complexity of ships like Stonathan and that, but I just favor Jargyle and Eddithan because its Jonathan being taken care of and saved and shown so much love. I know I'm rambling and I hope this was coherent.
I was in a rush so I don't know how coherent this was, but hopefully you get what I'm trying to say I love Stonathan/Stoncy and that so much, but Jargyle and Eddithan will always be superior because Jonathan takes care of Eddie and Argyle, but they take care of him even more and help him through his trauma and show him so much love and support and give Jonathan everything he could ever need or want emotionally. All Eddithan and Jargyle is is some big love fest where they just adore Jonathan and praise him and help him and remind him constantly how special he is. Even if Vecna does still brings the drama and angst into their relationship anyway.....

Sweetheart - (eddie munson x reader)
Ch. Two - Stev
Tumblr media
summary: the day drags on at school and tensions are high between our oldest step-siblings. pairing: eddie munson x fem!goth!mayfield! reader warnings: 18+ (minors dni) this is obnoxiously long, unfortunate use of y/n, me projecting my love of corn, language, mentions of abuse, billy hargrove, very light bullying -i think that's all- author's note: these parts are coming out so fast omg. I have pretty much the whole story written already I just need to put it on tumblr with all the extra stuff and whatever. am so excited for this one. love you <3
<<Part 1 --- Part 3>>
Tumblr media
Y/n was afraid of third period. It was the only class she didn't have with Nancy so far, and it was the only class she could potentially be embarrassed in. Needless to say, she was nervous.
She tried to hide and walk in the room, but the teacher saw her.
Of course, he did.
Thankfully, he didn't make her introduce herself and let her pick a seat anywhere. Y/n sat down swiftly in the emptiest part of the room. She pulled out a book and used her bangs as a cover for her face. Thank God this class was the shortest. She jumped as someone sat down directly next to her and tapped her shoulder.
Y/n slowly peeked out of her hair at the person.
"Robin! Thank fuck! I was so worried I would be by myself!" Y/n exclaimed, putting her book back in her bag. Robin laughed and took a peek at the book Y/n just put away.
"You like Stephen King?" Robin asked.
Y/n nodded with a big smile. "Me too! We should read one together! That would be cool," Robin said.
Y/n agreed and with that, Robin started rapidly talking to her about literally anything and everything. That day ended up being more of a free day than an actual class and Robin looked at Y/n's schedule.
"Nice! We have first through third, lunch, and gym together!" Robin said.
"That's good, man. I hate gym! I've been faking ankle injuries for years," Y/n said, pulling a rolled-up ace bandage from her bag. Robin covered her mouth and laughed, "You gotta teach me that one," she said, giving it back and offering Y/n some headphones.
"Wanna listen to music with me?" Robin asked, a crooked smile on her lips. Y/n nodded, putting the headphones on and leaving one off her ear to talk some more. Robin did the same before popping a Fleetwood Mac tape into the Walkman. Y/n unconsciously bopped along to the music as they talked. The bell interrupted them mid chat about one of Y/n's tattoos, but they kept it going in the halls. Y/n tossed her bag into her locker and grabbed her jacket before following Robin to the lunchroom.
Y/n passed the lunch lady five dollars and smiled when she was given extra corn and another biscuit.
"Ah, hey. I gotta sit with the band kids today. It's some, like, unspoken rule that on game days you have to sit together. We can sit together tomorrow!" Robin spoke. Y/n smiled and nodded, nudging Robin's shoulder, and sitting down with Nancy, a few random people and that guy from before.
"Wassup, wassup," Y/n greeted, sitting across from Nancy and the hair man. They all greeted her, and hair dude introduced himself first.
"I'm Steve Harrington," he said, expecting some kind of reaction like everyone else so he could say no and stay loyal to Nancy. "Y/n," she replied simply, shaking his hand before fist-bumping him. Steve stared a little wide-eyed at her. He liked her already.
"So, what's with all the corn? Where did you get extra food from?!" the girl sitting next to her, Samantha, asked, noticing she had two of almost everything.
"Paid the lunch lady. It worked in Cali," Y/n shrugged, taking a spoonful of corn and humming in satisfaction. Steve and Nancy smiled at their trays trying not to laugh at her. "I like corn, dude!" Y/n laughed, triggering the table's laughter loose. They were interrupted by two guys coming up to the table and standing behind Y/n.
"Yo! Freak!" the shortest of the two, Tommy H, spoke first. Billy didn't say anything, just glared down at his stepsister. Y/n took another bite of food, dusted off her skirt, and turned in her seat. The boys had little smirks on their faces at their height over hers until she stood up. Tommy's face dropped as she stood over them both, looking down at them.
"I want you to repeat that," Y/n said nonchalantly.
"Uh, what?" Tommy laughed nervously.
"Repeat what you said! I didn't hear it the first time," she replied cheerfully, earning snickers from Steve. "Billy just had a question for you," Tommy mumbled. Billy stared at her blankly before holding his hand out. "Oh! My bad," Y/n laughed, pulling some money from her bra and giving it to Billy. "Have fun, make friends! Don't spend it all in one place!" she said, waving as they walked away. "I carry our lunch money. He can't keep track of it," Y/n rolled her eyes playfully.
"Who is that by the way? He's been here five minutes and he's already acting like top dog!" Another girl, Anna, asked. "Oh, that's Billy. He's my dumbass stepbrother. Yeah, he's used to being popular, so I guess no point in starting over," Y/n said.
The rest of Y/n's school day was filled with the same routine. Walk in, introduce herself and feel like an idiot, talk to one of her new friends, take notes, and grab catch-up work. Y/n sighed in relief at the last bell and walked out to Billy's car. He was already there and smoking a cigarette. Max was rolling down the hill, meeting the two at the car. Y/n with her arms in the window and prepping another joint, and Billy still smoking without a care in the world.
"Hey, pissant," Y/n greeted, "Hey, Ace," Max smirked at Y/n's fake glare.
"Can we go?!" Billy shouted.
Y/n opened up the car door, allowing Max to jump in the backseat. Y/n glanced around before licking the paper and rolling it up the rest of the way. She flopped into the passenger seat and leaned into Billy's light he had opened and ready for her. She coughed a little as she inhaled and rasped out a "sick!" as Metallica blasted through the speakers.
Y/n was squinting and humming to the music in the car as Billy and Max started yelling at each other. "Yo! Yo! HEY!" Y/n yelled over them, "Shh. You are so loud and for why?" she said quietly.
Billy rolled his eyes and swung the car into the arcade parking lot. Y/n and Max both got out, Max flipping Billy off as he drove away, and Y/n traipsing inside behind her. Two middle school boys ran up to the doors but didn't go in. They watched the two girls play different machines, "Is that Y/n?" Dustin asked, pointing to the girl in all black.
Lucas shrugged, putting up his binoculars to see Y/n leaned on the machine lazily playing Ms. Pac-Man. "Yep. That's her," Lucas said. Dustin's eyes widened and he pressed his face to the glass again. "No way!" he exclaimed watching her play with a bored expression on her face.
Dustn took a second to look at Y/n while Lucas oggled Max. There weren't many (if any) goth people in Hawkins, so her look was definitely new to them.
Dustin liked it.

Tumblr media
The film premiered in New York City at the RKO Palace on August 13, 1942. That same day Disney’s long-awaited Bambi opened at Radio City Music Hall. At the Capitol, Orson Welles’ The Magnificent Ambersons, also starring Agnes Moorehead and Gil Perkins, continued its run. Nearby, at the Albee, a second-run cinema, Top Hat (1935) starring Ginger Rogers and Lucille Ball was playing. The Big Street opened nationally September 4, 1942.

PRINCIPAL CAST
Lucille Ball (Gloria Lyons aka ‘Her Highness’) was born on August 6, 1911 in Jamestown, New York. She began her screen career in 1933 and was known in Hollywood as ‘Queen of the B’s’ due to her many appearances in ‘B’ movies. With Richard Denning, she starred in a radio program titled “My Favorite Husband” which eventually led to the creation of “I Love Lucy,” a television situation comedy in which she co-starred with her real-life husband, Latin bandleader Desi Arnaz. The program was phenomenally successful, allowing the couple to purchase what was once RKO Studios, re-naming it Desilu. When the show ended in 1960 (in an hour-long format known as “The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour”) so did Lucy and Desi’s marriage. In 1962, hoping to keep Desilu financially solvent, Lucy returned to the sitcom format with “The Lucy Show,” which lasted six seasons. She followed that with a similar sitcom “Here’s Lucy” co-starring with her real-life children, Lucie and Desi Jr., as well as Gale Gordon, who had joined the cast of “The Lucy Show” during season two. Before her death in 1989, Lucy made one more attempt at a sitcom with “Life With Lucy,” also with Gordon.
Gloria’s singing voice was provided by Martha Mears, who also did Ball’s singing in DuBarry Was a Lady (1944).
Tumblr media
Henry Fonda (Augustus Pinkerton II aka ‘Little Pinks’) first worked with Lucille Ball in the 1935 film I Dream Too Much. When Lucille Ball first got to Hollywood, the two actually briefly dated. They collaborated on the TV special “The Good Years” (1962) and the film Yours, Mine and Ours (1968). During the 1970s, Fonda and Ball often turned up on the same awards and tribute shows. Fonda was nominated for three Oscars, winning in 1982 for On Golden Pond. He also won an honorary Oscar in 1981. Fonda died in 1982 at age 77.
Tumblr media
Barton MacLane (Case Ables) was seen in the film The Maltese Falcon (1941) but is probably best remembered for his final role, the blustery General Peterson on “I Dream of Jeannie” (1965-69).
“A fat man’s always listening to love stories, but he’s never go any to tell.” ~ Nicely Nicely Johnson
Eugene Pallette (Nicely Nicely Johnson, The Greatest Eater Alive) was seen as Friar Tuck in Robin Hood (1938) and in Mr. Smith Goes To Washington (1939).
The character of Nicely Nicely Johnson was played by Stubby Kaye, who reprised the role he played on Broadway, in the film version of Runyon’s Guys and Dolls (1955).  He was so named because his usual reply to the question “How are you doing?” was typically “Nicely nicely, thank you!”
Tumblr media
Agnes Moorehead (Violette Shumberg) was a classically trained performer who collaborated with Orson Welles on Citizen Kane (1941) and The Magnificent Ambersons (1942). She is best remembered as Samantha’s exotic mother Endora on the TV series “Bewitched” (1964-72).
Violette weighs 100 pounds, four ounces.
“She has a very large capacity for groceries.” ~ Pinks (about Violette)
Tumblr media
Sam Levene (Horsethief) originated the role of Nathan Detroit in the Broadway stage musical of Runyon’s Guys and Dolls. Singing great Frank Sinatra played  Nathan Detroit in the movie version in 1955.
Tumblr media
Ray Collins (Professor B) also collaborated with Orson Welles on Citizen Kane (1941) and The Magnificent Ambersons (1942), along with Agnes Moorehead. He is best remembered for playing Lieutenant Tragg on “Perry Mason” from 1957 to 1965.
Tumblr media
Marion Martin (Mimi Venus) would also be seen with Lucille Ball in Abbott and Costello in Hollywood (1945). Although she was often cast as a brassy stripper, showgirl or tough gun moll, off screen she was known to be extremely shy and retiring.
“That dame is a lump of mud!”  ~Gloria (about Mimi)
Tumblr media
William Orr (Decatur Reed) was an actor turned executive. As the head of WB Television for nine years, he was executive producer of the studio's early forays into the medium, helping to put ABC on the prime-time map with a steady staple of westerns and detective shows. In 1959 he received a Golden Globe for his contributions to television.
Tumblr media
Vera Gordon (Mrs. Lefkowitz) emigrated with her family from Russia when she was seven years old. She became involved in the theatre and was active in silent films and early talkies. She had previously appeared with Lucille Ball in 1938′s Having Wonderful Time.
Tumblr media
George Cleveland (Col. Venus) makes his fourth film appearance with Lucille Ball. In 1949 they also did Miss Grant Takes Richmond. He is best remembered for playing Gramps on “Lassie” (1954-57).
Tumblr media
Ozzie Nelson (Himself) was considered the pre-eminent TV dad of the 1950s thanks to his successful family sitcom “The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet” (1952-66). Before TV fame, he was a bandleader with his wife Harriet the lead singer. Nelson later appeared on several talk shows with Lucille Ball.
UNCREDITED CAST (with connections to Lucille Ball)
Baby (Gloria’s Pekingese Dog)

BIG STREET OPENING
"Loser's Lane - the sidewalk in front of Mindy's Restaurant on Broadway - is not as high-toned a trading center as Wall Street, but the brokers are a lot more colorful. Generally they prefer to put their money on a prizefight or horse race, but when the action slows, anything can happen and it usually does. Tonight, for example, the citizens of the Lane are discussing the latest contest in their usual quiet way..."
BIG STREET TRIVIA
The Big Street was a nickname for Broadway, where this movie's plot starts, and where all Runyon's stories take place. The film opens at West 50th and Broadway in New York City, with the marquee of the Capitol Theatre in the background.
Tumblr media
Damon Runyon originally wanted to cast Charles Laughton and Carole Lombard in the lead roles, but neither one was interested in the project. The two had previously paired on White Women (1933) and They Knew What They Wanted (1940), Lombard suggested the producer consider her friend Lucille Ball and, despite pressure by RKO to hire a better-known actress, Runyon offered her the role.  Unaccustomed to playing series roles, Lucille asked advice from Laughton on how to approach such a difficult part. Laughton told her not to hold back: “If you are going to play a bitch, play a bitch!”
Tumblr media
Ball later recalled that at the time she was cast, "nothing much seemed to be happening for me at the studio. My $1000 weekly paycheck came regularly, but I was still a regular among the Bs."
Tumblr media
Philadelphia Daily News ~ June 6, 1942
Reports that Lucille Ball sent a $25 War Bond to each of the ten girls that were fired from backing her up on “The Big Street”.
During filming, Lucy’s new husband Desi Arnaz felt so insecure about leaving Lucy and Fonda alone together that he’d often pop by the set to keep an eye on them. His paranoia so exasperated director Irving Reis that he finally banned him from the set.
This was Lucille Ball’s favorite of her nearly 80 films. She felt her performance was unjustly ignored by the Academy.
Tumblr media
The vocals for "Who Knows?" by Harry Revel and Mort Greene, performed by Gloria in Case's Manhattan club, were provided by Martha Mears. The character later reprises the song with Ozzie Nelson and his orchestra in the Miami nightspot.
Tumblr media
The film was re-released in 1955, at the height of Lucille Ball’s television success. Although Fonda remains first billed, Ball’s photo clearly indicates that she is the drawing card.
Tumblr media
Damon Runyon also created the source material for the hit Broadway musical Guys and Dolls (1950), which starred Robert Alda, who went on to make several appearances on “The Lucy Show.” The two stories share the character of Nicely Nicely Johnson. When the film version was made by MGM in 1955, Lucy and Desi were also under contract to the studio. A brief clip of the film was inserted into the middle of an episode of “I Love Lucy” called “Lucy and the Dummy” (S5;E3), although the clip was removed after its initial airing. Further, when Lucille Ball first came to Hollywood, before becoming a contract player at RKO, she worked for Sam Goldwyn as one of the Goldwyn Girls. In Guys and Dolls, the Hot Box Girls are played by the Goldwyn Girls.
Tumblr media
In 1949, Lucille Ball starred in another film based on a Damon Runyon story, Sorrowful Jones, a remake of the 1934 Shirley Temple film, Little Miss Marker.
Tumblr media
Damon Runyon was a big fan of Lindy’s, a Manhattan restaurant famous for their cheesecake, and wrote the eatery into his books as Mindy's. The musical Guys and Dolls, based on Runyon's writings, immortalizes Lindy's in one of its songs. In “Ricky’s Contract” (ILL S4;E10), Lucy tells Fred and Ethel that Ricky took his entire band to Lindy’s to celebrate learning that he had been offered a movie contract.
In The Big Street, a sympathetic Pinks decides to take Gloria to Florida to recuperate - by pushing her wheelchair the entire way - starting with the Holland Tunnel!  Although Lucy and Fonda never left Hollywood, the locations are achieved by rear projection and establishing footage.
Tumblr media
The Holland Tunnel figures into “I Love Lucy,” not once - but twice. In “The Marriage License” (ILL S ), after finding out that her marriage license may be invalid, Lucy goes on a twelve hour walk to East Orange, New Jersey. “How I ever got through the Holland Tunnel, I don’t know.”
Tumblr media
The Holland Tunnel will be mentioned again three years later in “Lucy Learns to Drive” (ILL S4;E11). Reportedly, she tried to make a u-turn in the Holland Tunnel resulting in traffic being tied up to East Orange, New Jersey.
Tumblr media
Action is also set in Miami Beach, Florida. Pinks and Gloria hitchhike there to visit with Nicely Nicely and Violette who are operating a night spot there.
Tumblr media
In “Off To Florida” (ILL S6;E6), Lucy and Ethel also hitchhike to Miami Beach Florida after being left on the side of the road by their ride share, a suspected hatchet murderess.  They arrive at the North Miami train station covered in chicken feathers from riding in the back of a poultry truck.
Tumblr media
Doting Pinks has a pet name for haughty Gloria: 'Your Highness'.  In Florida, her friends conspire to get people to come and hear her sing by fibbing that she is the Princess of Corolia, a fictional place.
Tumblr media
In “The Publicity Agent” (ILL S1;E31), Lucy conspires to get Ricky more publicity by pretending to be a fawning fan of royal blood: ‘The Maharincess of Franistan’!
FAST FORWARD!
Tumblr media
On a 1971 episode of “The Dick Cavett Show" with guests Lucille Ball, Carol Burnett, and Lucie Arnaz, Lucie compliments her mother's dramatic performance in the film.
The film is referenced in the television film Lucy & Desi: Before the Laughter (1991)
A poster for the film is on Lucy’s dressing room wall in Lucy, a 2003 TV movie.
The Big Street turns up in the TV listings in the low budget film Hollywood Mouth (2008) starring Joe Bologna.
A clip from the film is featured in a montage during “AFI Life Achievement Award: A Tribute to Henry Fonda” a 1978 special attended by Lucille Ball.
Henry Fonda: The Man and His Movies (1982) contains dressing room and dance floor scenes with Lucille Ball.
The Emmy-winning documentary Lucy and Desi: A Home Movie (1993) features a brief clip from the movie.
When Cher is TCM Guest Programmer in 2011, she selects The Big Street as one of her films to be aired.
Tumblr media
In December 1948, Lucille Ball reprised her role on radio with John Garfield taking the role of Pinks.

Narrative Mirror Characters in Supernatural – An Overview for the Uninitiated.
Mirror characters have always been a classic story telling device. The purpose of a mirror character is to reflect on the main characters journey and emotional state and to provide lessons for the main character to learn. Mirror characters in TV and movies can also be used for foreshadowing purposes and encourage the audience to question the main characters path.
A famous example would be Frodo Baggins and his narrative mirror Gollum in The Lord of the Rings. Gollum is a dark mirror for Frodo in that he represents everything that Frodo could become if he succumbs to the power of the One Ring. Frodo’s present is Gollum’s past as Smeagol, and throughout the books Frodo becomes more and more aware of his fate as he grows closer to Gollum/Smeagol and makes the decision to try to save him as a reflection of his desire to save himself.
Narrative mirrors are everywhere and widely used in all forms of storytelling. To deny them, is to deny basic storytelling tropes. Sometimes the narrative mirrors are extremely, painfully obvious, and other times they are quite subtle and have only a very minor meaning in the greater story.
Supernatural is a series which has used narrative mirror characters quite extensively throughout its long history. It frequently uses mirror characters to provide an additional layer to the emotional journeys of its lead characters to encourage emotional growth. Supernatural also often uses mirror characters to highlight unspoken main character storylines which support subtextual themes as well as foreshadowing potential future plot outcomes.
Supernatural relies so heavily on its narrative character mirrors, that recently in episode 14x04 Mint Condition it gave its viewers a textual lesson on character mirrors straight from its lead characters mouths:
Tumblr media
Gif Source: (x)
DEAN (Pointing at Samantha): She’s like your twin.
[SAM pushes his hair back just as SAMANTHA does the same.]
SAM: What? What are you talking about?
DEAN: Soft, delicate features, luxurious hair. She’s like your wonder twin.
SAM: Yeah.
[A man, DIRK, is crouching in front of the comic book stands picking up comics. He has a lollipop in his mouth. SAM points to him.]
SAM: Well, okay, if that’s me then that’s you over there.
DEAN: That guy?
SAM: Yeah.
DEAN: Yeah, we have zero in common
(The scene then proceeds to show just how much Dean has in common with Dirk)
Following this fun scene, the episode continues to show how much Sam and Dean have in common with their mirror characters in many ways, including a moving moment between Dirk and Dean in which Dirk talks about how important his friend Stuart is to him. (Stuart who was first introduced in this episode wearing a tan trench coat similar to the classic coat worn by Castiel – Dean’s best friend).
From this blatantly obvious in-show commentary, we can infer how the Supernatural creators like to present their mirror characters and how we, the audience, can keep a look out for them. The key indicators are as follows:
Similar clothing - Character clothing choices are very important in this show. The brothers are almost always dressed in plaid and what Castiel would probably call “lumberjack chic”. Castiel always wears a tan trenchcoat, formal attire, white shirt, blue tie. His mirrors are pretty much the easiest to spot. Arguably any side character wearing a tan trenchcoat is a mirror for Castiel.
Siblings – Where side characters are siblings, they are mirrors for Sam and Dean.
Parent/Child pairs – Less common, but also often a comment on Sam and Dean’s dynamic, Dean being the parent to Sam.
Immortal characters with a sympathy to humanity – usually a Cas mirror.
Tastes/interests – Like with Dirk, if a side character appears who the main characters bond with over mutual interests, the chances are they are a mirror for the main character in question.
Storylines; depending on overarching season plots – less obvious, but sometimes the most interesting. Characters that appear in standalone episodes that have an emotional tie to the mytharc plot of the season usually serve to give lessons to the main characters. Those characters will stand in for the main characters when dealing with their own emotional turmoil, which will usually be similar in theme to the emotional turmoil that the main characters are going through. Consider Ed and Harry from 9x14’s #Thinman episode - such a blatantly obvious Winchester mirror that it should need no explaining here.
By taking all these various indicators into consideration when watching any episode of Supernatural, it becomes rather easy to spot the character mirrors and depending on the actions and plot purpose of those mirror characters, we can usually conclude their purpose and the connection to the overall mytharc, or in some cases character development plot.
I’m about to pull out some big examples so you can use those as templates to go forth and find the mirrors! But my main point in this post is to argue that meta writers aren’t pulling this stuff out of our asses. Character mirrors are a story telling technique that is used frequently and with clear author intent. Don’t ever let anyone tell you that you are seeing things when you believe that characters are meant to be mirrors. It is far more likely that they ARE intended mirrors than not.
I recently came across these tweets on Twitter:
Tumblr media
Mark Harris is a former Entertainment Weekly executive editor and author of several books on Hollywood and the film industry.
Brian Koppelman is the co-creator and showrunner of the TV show “Billions” and has worked in the TV and Film industries for over two decades.
I would hazard a guess that both of these individuals have a greater authority on the inner workings of TV show production than YOU or I or anyone else in this fandom about to scream those immortal and highly ridiculous words “yOu ArE rEaDiNg InTo ThInGs!”
But by all means, if you are going to disregard my post as nothing more than a “crazy” fan trying to claim author intent where there is none, perhaps you could first take a look below the cut, because these mirror characters in SPN are hardly coincidence, and the general motto to run by is that if some characters are definitely mirrors, then the chances are that wherever you THINK you see a character mirror, and it makes logical sense, the INTENT was for you to see a character mirror all along.
So therefore, never disregard a fan interpretation of a narrative character mirror when they see one.
If you do, you are going to look like a huge jackass.
Please keep reading for glaringly obvious Destiel character mirrors along with some nice brother character mirrors for comparison. We ain’t kidding around folks.
First of all, lets consider some examples where Supernatural has used narrative mirror characters specifically to highlight Sam and Dean’s emotional growth.
A recent and very obvious example is from 14x12.
Tumblr media
The brothers interview Eddie, the twin brother of a murdered man in a case they are investigating. Eddie is distraught by his brother’s murder, and he says the following:
“I can’t believe he’s gone. We were close. Best friends. Alan always said he was my big brother, ‘cause he was born first. By, like, four minutes. Losing him is like losing a part of myself. I never knew it could be this bad.”
In this situation, Eddie is a clear Sam mirror character, because his emotional response to his brother Alan’s death is exactly what Sam’s would be if he were to lose Dean. Dean, in this scenario, is the one learning the lesson. He is having to witness through a character mirror the pain that Sam would go through upon Dean’s suicide. This reflects the current mytharc plot in which Dean has chosen a suicide mission of locking himself away with the archangel Michael in order to prevent Michael’s escape.
This is a simple mirror which specifically relates to the theme of the episode. However, other character mirrors have a wider lesson in mind. Another recent episode that used character mirrors for the brothers was 13x12 Various and Sundry Villains.
In this episode, the brothers come up against a pair of villainous witch sisters. The sisters are determined to bring their mother back from the dead and will stop at nothing to succeed. The sisters are dark Winchester mirrors in that they symbolise the lengths the brothers will go to in order to save themselves and their family – putting their own goals above the safety of the world. This episode took place during a season 13 mytharc plot in which the Winchesters own mother Mary was trapped in an apocalyptic universe and the Winchesters were looking for a way to save her (and Jack) regardless of warnings from Death herself that no good would come from jumping universes.
It was also a wider commentary on the Winchesters own toxic co-dependency – a theme that has been running within the subtext of the show since Season 8 which portrays the brothers co-dependent relationship as a negative force in their universe and something that they need to break free of – a theme which has been building quite nicely in these later seasons.
The episode 13x12 ends with the witch sisters horrifically murdering each other whilst under a spell in a scene which symbolically shows just what could happen to the Winchester boys if they don’t free each other from their own toxic relationship.
Tumblr media
This was a prime example of character mirrors have a deeper message in terms of their relation to the main characters and their overall character journeys on the show.
Sam and Dean have had mirror characters established in the show since the early seasons. One obvious example was in 1x18 Something Wicked This Way Comes which prominently features a young boy called Michael who feels responsible for his little brother Asher. Michael is an obvious Dean mirror used to emphasise Dean’s loss of innocence at a young age due to the boy’s early introduction to monsters by their father.
Many of the early season character mirrors were used to provide backstory for Sam and Dean such as this one, or to provide dark foreshadowing (like used with Frodo and Gollum) for Sam particularly with the “Special Children” throughout seasons 1 and 2.
In the later seasons, character mirrors are more likely to be used to either provide Sam and Dean with emotional lessons, or highlight their co-dependency as a negative force.
See, its quite simple so far right? Would you actually deny that these characters were Winchester mirrors? You can possibly argue with my interpretation, but you can’t really argue against the mirrors themselves, that much is obvious.
Now is where it gets interesting. Because whilst you may have no problem seeing mirror characters for Sam and Dean in the show, would you feel the same way if I was to present you with an EVEN LARGER mountain of evidence for mirror characters for Dean and Cas?
Another frequent use of character mirrors within the show in the later seasons is to highlight a potential romantic partnership between Dean and Castiel. This is a controversial opinion and one many viewers of the show either ignore or adamantly deny. However, arguably you can’t pick and choose your meta in this show. If you agree with one set of thematic mirrors, you must surely admit to the same filming techniques being used elsewhere. If mirrors exist between Sam and Dean, they must also exist between Dean and Cas, and sometimes those mirrors are just as blatantly obvious, if not more so.
One prominent example (and probably the most obvious) comes from episode 9x20. Written by the current showrunner Andrew Dabb, this episode was an attempt at a spin off show with a completely new set of characters. One part of this episode included a love story between monster characters David and Violet.
Please refer to this post: http://bluestar86.tumblr.com/post/178577156431/i-cant-recall-where-but-i-read-somewhere-that-a for further detail about this character mirror. Because it’s so obvious its laughable.
The basic mirror is that David is Dean. He is the son of a powerful monster family in Chicago who is pulled back into the war when his brother Sal is murdered. “David” = Dean, “Sal” = Sam. Get it? That’s one clear mirror. The back story alone is obvious enough.
Violet is the daughter of another powerful monster family, one that is actively antagonising the others and supports the war. She spends most of the episode wearing this:
Tumblr media
Violet is clearly our Castiel mirror. A daughter of a troublesome monster family that wants to start war, but who tries to prevent that because of her love for one of the other families sons? Its Romeo and Juliet but it is also very Dean and Cas.
The turbulent relationship between David and Violet is told using lines previously spoken between Dean and Cas word for word, but in an obviously romantic way (because heterosexual romance is irritatingly obvious even when using lines previously given to “just bros”). Seriously, go read the linked post and just TRY to deny this mirror.
One of the more recent obvious DeanCas mirrors in the show comes from season 14 between Mary Winchester and AU!Bobby. In the episode immediately following 14x04’s lesson in recognising mirror characters in Supernatural Mary and Bobby show up to put our mirror recognition to the test.
Mary has been used as a mirror character for Castiel and vice versa since she was reintroduced to the show in season 12. In terms of the key indicators, she has often been seen wearing a tan trenchcoat, or a general tan coat with white and blue clothing (her clothing is often coded for Castiel) as well as her emotional journey being tied to his in her struggle to find belonging among her family.
Tumblr media
AU!Bobby is a Dean mirror. His story very closely compares to many of Dean’s storylines over the years, including Purgatory and being traumatised by the loss of his son (a canonical fact being that both Sam and Dean acknowledge that Dean raised Sam and was practically his only parental figure).
The romance between him and Mary is still pretty much completely subtextual, and yet people still acknowledge its existence. It has been shown through longing looks and conversations with the brothers where Mary voices her frustrations at her inability to break through the supposed communication barriers between her and Bobby (an interesting storyline which compares extremely closely with season 13’s long running miscommunication theme for Dean and Cas.)
Bobby and Mary’s current story reflects Dean and Cas’s especially in Mary’s frustrations to get Bobby to open up to her about his troubled past. There is an underlying message here which indicates Castiel’s own frustrations at Dean for not being more open and honest with him (again this was shown far more subtly as recently as 14x12 in how Dean keeps things from Cas because they are far too painful for him to address). This mirror is practically undeniable, just like David and Violet. Yet both are romantic.
The other glaringly obvious het character mirror pairing for Dean and Cas was Cain and Colette in seasons 9 and 10. Just because the story didn’t resolve itself, doesn’t mean the mirror wasn’t intended and specifically catered for Dean and Cas from the start.
Cain and Colette is a HUGE example of a mirror that was practically textually confirmed (and was actually confirmed by Jared Padalecki at a convention).
Tumblr media
(x)
In fact, arguably 10x14 called for the audience to notice character mirrors before 14x04 did! Cain constantly reiterated that he was a Dean mirror TEXTUALLY. He told Dean that Sam was his Abel. He very clearly stated how Dean would live his life in reverse - Cain killed Abel first, then he unwillingly killed his wife Colette, before finally giving in and killing his demonic kin - the knights of hell.
He told Dean he would first kill Crowley - his own demonic kin in a sense, then he would kill Castiel - Deans... partner? Before finally killing Sam. How can I make this any clearer? Oh yeah. This:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In fact just got take a look at the source post for those gifs to see all the other ways Cas is a mirror for Colette and watch me laugh at anyone still trying to deny this: http://casclaire.tumblr.com/post/119456988024/and-everyone-you-know-everyone-you-love-they
Those were the het pairings (among many others) but Dean and Cas have also been mirrored to practically every other queer pairing in the show save one (and that was played purely for jokes for W*ncest fans).
Now the importance of queer representation is something we frequently discuss in fandom. So before some asshat decides to pipe up and accuse me I’ll just add a nice little disclaimer so said asshat can shut the hell up:
Theorising that queer pairings in Supernatural may also be mirror pairings for Destiel does not diminish the pairing or the representation in its own right. To claim it does so is utter bullshit. The pairing is still awesome and should be celebrated because hey! It’s on the show isn’t it? It’s out in the open as a canon queer pairing! YAY for US! Speculating that it could also be a Destiel mirror pairing only ADDS to the awesomeness. It does NOT diminish it in any way...
Unless you hate Destiel of course in which case... well:
Tumblr media
So now we’ve got that out of the way:
Several of our best queer pairings in SPN over the years can also reflect Destiel and their relationship.
Charlie and Gilda is a prime example:
Tumblr media
Gilda appears in episode 8x11 as a fairy from another realm who has been taken prisoner and forced via magic to do horrible things against her nature by a bad guy. Charlie is able to free her from her “masters” spell.
Sound familiar?
It should do, because this is basically Castiel’s story in season 8. He is brainwashed by Naomi to do bad things against his nature which culminates in Dean managing to break through to him by declaring how much he “needs” him. Isn’t it all so marvelously gay?
How about this awesome gay couple:
Tumblr media
(x)
Honestly I could wax poetic about this episode for a thousand years, but I will just stress this: Anyone who tries to suggest that the mirror here is for Sam and Dean is clearly missing the fact that the entire point of this episode was about a BROTHER getting revenge for and mourning the loss of his BROTHER. So the Brother mirror is already well established at the start of the episode.
But Cesar? Cesar is all Cas. He’s the “foreigner” supporting his partners revenge quest regardless of his own desires. Hell, even their names are similar. Besides, their entire relationship was a lesson for the audience in how to recognise body language. All those shoulder squeezes and longing stares? Destiel was all over Jesse and Cesar. I have no doubt in that.
But if that didn’t swing it for you how about this lovely canon pairing?
Tumblr media
(x)
The fandom coined “DreamHunter” pairing between Claire Novak and Kaia Nieves was built completely on famous Destiel moments. Longing looks, pledges of protection, “I’ll go with you”, saving each other, trying to go back for each other, mourning the others death… Dreamhunter was also still completely subtextual until recently when Jody Mills stated “First love strikes quick” a simple sentence, and it was confirmed as canon in the show.
Here’s a handy post of how dreamhunter was built on a Destiel framework:
http://bluestar86.tumblr.com/post/179549508598/tinkdw-first-love-strikes-quick-to-lose-it
Other than these obvious pairings above, there are literally hundreds of character mirrors used throughout the show’s 300 episode run so far which are put in place by the writers and the crew specifically to indicate some deeper meaning to the overall lead character emotional arcs. This has been common and frequent in the show throughout its long history. The above examples are just the most obvious ones related to either Sam and Dean or Dean and Cas.  Almost every episode of this show includes character mirrors in some way or another. Character mirrors specifically linking to Dean and Cas have been particularly frequent throughout Carver and Dabb era (practically every episode in season 8 had a tragic human x immortal creature love story for example).
So for ANYONE to argue that we are seeing mirrors where they don’t exist? Well, those people are straight up wrong. I don’t care who they are, or whether they have some status within fandom or if they are just some asshole on the internet, unless the denial of character mirrors is coming from the writers or the directors of the episodes, they are wrong.
Which leads me nicely to this:
Tumblr media
My reason for writing this long meta post was because of this. Simple enough right? We got three kids in 14x13. One is a tall nerdy boy who just seems to radiate with the same aura as Colin Morgan’s young Sam Winchester. One is a fiery young lady called Max, who wears a plaid jacket and has a shy crush on her friend - she also gets behind the seat of the Impala at one point as if that wasn’t obvious enough. The other girl Stacy we don’t know much about, other than that she is quiet, pretty, with dark hair and clearly the object of Max’s affections.
When I first watched this episode with @tinkdw and this scene came up we both didn’t even have to think about it. It was so clear to us. Nice one SPN, we see what you did there. The framing, the characters personalities, the coded clothing... there wasn’t a doubt between us that this was framed intentionally, and in a scene literally moments before Cas comes home to his family.
It was supposed to be simple, no big deal. Yet another Destiel mirror among the mountain of Destiel mirrors the show has already given us. Its not even anywhere near as impactful as one of the character mirror pairings previously mentioned in this post. Yet it was enough to cause such a huge wank storm on Twitter and have BNF accounts start a parade of abuse and blame towards meta writers for even DARING to consider that Destiel mirrors may exist AT ALL in this show, let alone with author intent!
Colour me effing surprised.
If ANYONE tries to tell ANY Destiel shipper that they don’t have a right to see character mirrors in the show, to believe that there is author intent, to SHAME them for seeing those mirrors in queer pairings specifically. You go right ahead and block those people. Because their opinions are their own no matter how much they may scream like they have some kind of authority. They don’t.
No one has any authority over the way you interpret the media you enjoy. Even me.
Don’t forget that.
So my point on this post was basically to say this.
You go right ahead and keep looking for character mirrors in SPN, because they have been intentionally included in the show since its humble beginnings.  Destiel mirrors are a huge part of that. You are NOT wrong for seeing them.
Max and Stacy in 14x13 were just the latest in a long line of Destiel specific character mirrors in a show renowned for using character mirrors to the point that it has textually given its audience A. Lesson. In. How. To. Spot. Character. Mirrors.
I am not making this shit up.
At the end of the day, by believing the mirrors are intentional, and what makes this post controversial, is that it means I am telling you that TPTB are intentionally providing us with romantic Destiel subtext.
Well, that is exactly what I am saying. Because they are. There is no doubt about this. You don’t fill your show to the brim with romantic tropes, romantic character mirrors and an underlying romantic narrative C plot for at least 4 seasons without having some intentional desire to potentially make this thing an actual thing.
You just DON’T.
The writers know what the hell they are doing. They want to keep Destiel an option for endgame, so they keep it going throughout the show. Whether or not they eventually make it textual to a point that a general audience can’t deny its existence is another story, because that’s the kind of thing that need a green light from the CW suits.
But the writers, the creators of the show, everyone involved to an extent, they all know what they are doing. Anyone who at this stage would deny author intent regarding Destiel loses all my respect because frankly its insulting to the creators themselves. No one is so idiotic that they would make something look unintentionally romantic for 10 years.
The mirrors are real. Destiel is real. The creators of SPN continue to include it so they can keep it an option for endgame because (and this is the part I don’t know for sure but can at least guess because I don’t consider the entire writing team to be asshole queerbaiters) they want to make it canon as much as we want it to be canon.
Whether they actually CAN or not is the issue at this point. The debate on whether or not we “are reading into things” has been null and void since season 12. It was practically null and void since season 8 TBH.
So keep looking out for the Destiel mirrors (and the Sam and Dean mirrors and any other character mirrors you may pick up on) and you go right ahead and post and speculate and tweet and blog and do whatever the hell you want to do to voice your opinion on the topic because NO ONE has the right to police what you see in the show - especially when it has already been proven to be clearly intentional on the part of the creative team.
Finally I will leave you with this humble message from our “overlord” in case my post hasn’t already swayed you away from negative thinking and believing the deniers:

Warning: fighting and cursing
Part 1, Part 2
Part 3
Every one wants a happy ending but life doesn't work like that. You have to work for it. Pain, blood, sweat and tears are the price for true love.
🖤🖤
You sat on your bed and opened the shoe box. There were so many. Eddie was never the best writer. It took you a long time to get used to his sloppy writing. But you never expected this many letters. You ran your fingers over the folded up notebook paper and picked one at random. You opened it and saw water marks on it. He was crying when he wrote this.
' it's been 1 month since you left. And it feels like forever. This has been the worst month of my life. I miss you so much. So does Wayne.'
You put down the letter and picked up another.
' I have to tell you something. I fucked up. Do you remember Samantha Stone? Well I was drunk last night and I hooked up with her. It was a mistake and I'm sorry. Damnit y/n I'm so sorry. I know I said that I'm in love with you. God why did I do that. I was so fucking stupid.'
' fuck will you come home already. I really need to hold you. Please just come home'
' y/n I'm sorry I have to give Samantha a chance. I can't keep loving you when I'm with her. It's not fair to her.'
'one week and you come home. I hope me being with Samantha doesn't stop us from hanging out. I miss you.'
' I've been waiting so long to tell you this. But y/n I love you. I'm in love with you. You are the best thing in my life besides my baby. I didn't think I could ever feel this way towards anyone. But I do. You make me so happy. I wish I could tell you this. I should have told you this a long time ago.'
You put all the letters back in the box. You couldn't read anymore.
...
When you left Eddie grabbed his keys to go to Samantha's. He sat on her bed listening to her cry and yell and cough.
" it's because of y/n right? I knew it. You know you say her name in your sleep."
" I'm sorry"
"No Eddie I'm sorry. Sorry you wasted my fucking time.... You know what you two deserve each other. I really hope Vance kicks your ass."
That was Eddie's que to go. He could take Vance he knew he could. But he didn't want to. He was only violent when he had to be. Against Jason or his buddies. Or when some drunk douche would get grabby with you at the Hideout. But he would take on a hundred Vance's just to get you away from him. Eddie knew that one day Vance was gonna hurt you. It was only a matter of time. And he wasn't going to let that happen.
...
It was Monday morning and Eddie just pulled in to the schools parking lot. When he was suddenly pulled out of the driver seat.
" Come here you fuck." Was all he heard before getting thrown to the ground. When he finally moved his hair out of his eyes Vance was there. Trying to throw a punch. But Eddie moved and got up to create some distance between them. Getting ready.
" Do you really think she's gonna pick you? Please you're a pathetic piece of shit."
" Hey man. I don't know what you heard-"
" Oh? So you're saying your cuntwad is lying? That you're not after my girl?"
"It's not like that man. I love her"
"You mother fucker" Vance charged tackling Eddie.
They were rolling on the ground when you saw them. Shit no. You ran over to try and stop them. But by the time you reached them they were throwing blows.
"STOP STOP! VANCE STOP! EDDIE PLEASE!" You tried pulling them off each other.
You don't know who did it. Or when it actually happened. But you were now on the ground bleeding from your mouth. Your gasp and body thudding to the ground made the guys stop. You were dazed for a moment but Eddie kneeling next to you brought clarity.
"DON'T YOU FUCKING TOUCH HER" Vance screamed tackling Eddie again.
" FUCKING STOP!" you screamed at the top of your lungs. Eddie had Vance pinned to the ground with the collar of his shirt in one hand and a balled up fist raised up by his head. Kids surround you guys now. You felt someone help you up and walk away from the crowd.
Robin had led you to the lavatory and was helping you clean up.
"See that's why I like girls. Guys never use their words. It's alway a pissing contest with them"
" please Robin tell me I'm not missing teeth."
Robin inspected your mouth. " No you're good. But your lip is really messed up."
That's when Eddie stormed in pushing Robin away.
" Munson what the hell you can't-"
Eddie gave her a look that made her shut up real fast.
" I uhh guess I'll leave it to you."
You watched Robin leave when she opened the door Steve was looking past her to see what was going on.
"Oh common he's in there." Steve said before Robin pushed him away as the door closes.
You shut your eyes because you didn't want to see how bad Eddie was.
" I'm sorry y/n. I-i didn't mean to hit you. I just - I just saw red"
You opened your eyes and looked at eddie. He hit you. Eddie hit you? You always thought it would have been Vance who hurt you. But no it was Eddie. You looked at him. All he had was a small cut on his brow and his shirt was torn. He had grass and leafs in his hair. You looked down at his hands. They were all bloody and bruises started to develop. He had bits of skin embedded into his rings.
" Y/n Im so sorry."
...
You hadn't seen or spoken to either one of the guys. They both got suspended for a week. You picked up the phone to try and call one of them but you couldn't choose. You wanted to call Vance because technically he was still your boyfriend and he was hurt. You wanted to call Eddie because he was your best friend. But you had thought since they didn't call you either, that they must hate you now. Vance hating you because Eddie kicked his ass and Eddie hating you because he got in to a fight in general. Either way you never felt so alone.
You decide to go finally confront these issues. You got in your car and drove to your first destination. You stood on the porch building up the courage to knock. You took a deep breath and closed your eyes. After 3 knocks the door swung open. You opened your eyes just a bit to only make out his dirty white shoes. He didn't say anything.
" I -im sorry. I just can't do this. I never wanted it to come to this. I love you for fighting for me. But I just can't do this." You said as you turned to leave. You were sobbing as you drove to the next place.
You only had to knock once before the door opened. The smell of cigarettes and cologne with just a hint of musk punched you right in the nose. You hung your head because you couldn't look at him. You felt so awful.
"I know this is not easy. And I'm so sorry this happened. I wish I could take it all back. But I just can't. I don't know what to say other than I'm sorry and I love you. I can't picture my life with out you. But I'm -im so scared of you. I know it wasn't easy dealing with that situation. But what if it happens again? What if you loose your cool at something stupid I said? I know you didn't mean to hurt me but the fact of the matter is you did. And now I need time to heal this wound I have in my heart. Eddie I want to be with you. I want to be with you always. But I can't. Not like this. Not when I feel like this. But please please Eddie...wait for me. lts gonna take some time to get over this. but I promise I'll do my best to get back to you. Please love just wait for me."
" y/n I will wait as long as it takes. And not a minute less. I promise. I will wait for you."

----------------------
Like every weekday afternoon since the beginning of school until today, the day before spring break, Samantha Campbell was reading a book and idly eating a sandwich in her van with the back doors open instead of deigning to step foot in the cafeteria. Eddie had offered her a seat plenty of times but she had never taken him up on it, preferring the peace and quiet and lack of crowds and shouting.
Samantha didn’t stop to give anybody the time at school, in and out as fast as possible, talking to nobody, no eye contact, never initiate a conversation. In fact, over the past few months, her actions cultivated themselves into an aura that the people around her seemed to think was pretty intimidating.
Rarely did anybody interrupt her silent lunches in the parking lot, occasionally a teacher worried for her mental health, sometimes Eddie in an attempt to light up quickly before class, and every once in a blue moon, she would see a couple of Freshman standing on the perimeter of the parking lot, each whispering and occasionally smacking the others and gesturing to her van, until inevitably Dustin Henderson would nervously walk up to her while his friends waited and looked on curiously.
Today was one of those days. She wondered if he’d ever be able to convince one of the other ones to come and talk to her, or if they always made Dustin do it because they thought he had the family advantage. But she didn’t really know Dustin, aside from one sleepover in the guest room that had been sparsely decorated with objects she had left behind and a few awkward dinners, she hadn’t spoken to him. It’s not that she didn’t like him, he seemed like a good kid. Sam liked his mom, too. She liked seeing her Dad happy, she liked watching him try to teach Dustin to play catch in the front yard. They looked like a family. A family that Sam didn’t know how to fit into, no matter how many times they made it clear that she was welcome to try.
Dustin walked up to her cautiously, fiddling with his hat and waving casually as if she hadn’t seen the rock paper scissors battle between him and the tall skinny one to come over to her.
“Uh- hey, Samantha. Okay, so Lucas joined the basketball team this year because he wanted to stop us from being bullied and-” Dustin started quickly, and she interrupted.
“I don’t know who Lucas is.”
“Not important. Have you ever played Dungeons and Dragons?” He asked a little desperately.
“I don’t know what that is. Or what you being bullied by the basketball team has to do with dragons.” She said, already uncomfortable. She didn’t know how to talk to kids, Dustin seemed cool enough but she didn't know whether he was at the "hard truths of life" stage or if she was supposed to give him a lollipop or something.
Dustin started rambling on about the rules and dice with twenty sides.
“I’m sorry dude I don’t think that’s my thing.” She said, interrupting him again, and the little guy deflated, instantly filling her with guilt.
“Shit. Eddie’s gonna be so pissed if we can’t find someone to replace Lucas.” He murmured to himself.
“Okay? I don’t know your Drowning Dragons Eddie-”
“I feel like you know that’s not what it’s called.”
“S-o that’s really not my problem, sorry bud.” She said, not sounding sorry at al.
“Do you know anybody that would be interested?” He asked hopefully, glancing back to his friends who were probably expecting a better answer.
“I don’t know anybody.” She said flatly, starting to look around for something to end the conversation.
“Seriously? You don’t know anybody?” Dustin said, now with sarcasm in full swing.  “Is this the first time you’ve ever spoken to another human being? Didn’t you go to school here for 11 years?” his tone was so confident all of a sudden that she would have laughed if she wasn’t already so annoyed.
“Yeah and then I left and all my old friends graduated.” She said flatly.
“Fine, fine. Message received.” Dustin grumbled and started to walk away, but turned back. “Oh, this is a weird question now that you said no to the first thing but, uh- can you pick me up after DnD at nine? I usually get a ride from Lucas.”
“Tryin’ to kill two birds with one stone, huh?” Sam asked and he nodded. “Sure. But don’t be late.”
Dustin smiled a little and Sam had to admit that he was kind of adorable.
---
Dustin did end up running late, but Sam didn’t really care about being left to wait in the car when she carried her home with her everywhere she went. She rewound the Pogues cassette and restarted it, glancing towards the door opening and saw the boys come out of it. She furrowed her brow when they were with none other than Eddie Munson, who seemed to be in peak form, all arms and hips and menacing leans forward as he articulated whatever he was saying with his entire body to the absolute delight of the other boys. It didn’t even cross Sam’s mind that they were talking about the same Eddie, but now that she saw him she probably should’ve seen it coming. The boys were all talking and high fiving, and Sam honked the horn so he would hurry up. They all looked at the cars and Dustin waved goodbye to his friends.
“Oh hey- I just saw a friend, I’m gonna go say hi- later guys, great job on the big finale tonight, humble adventurers.” Eddie said, waving to them.
“My ride's here, later!” Dustin said, and they were both a little surprised when they both took a step in the same direction.
It wasn’t that strange, there were a few cars with people in them parked closeby, but eventually they reached the same van and they gave each other strange looks.
“Is- is Sam Campbell your ride?” Eddie asked, confused.
“Uh- yeah she’s my moms fiance's daughter. Is Sam Campbell your friend?”
    “Yeah, I think-”
On the other side of the glass Samatha was cranking her window down and gave them both a stern stare.
“You know it’s weird to have a conversation directly outside somebody’s closed window.”
“Sorry- I saw your van and came over, didn’t know you were here to pick up Ser Dragonthorn, Knight in Absentia to the Realm of Neverwinter.” He said in a dramatic tone and bowed, making Dustin laugh, but then turned to Sam with suspicion.
“I thought  you said that you ‘didn’t know anybody’” Dustin accused, finger quotes and all. Eddie snorted and leaned over to rest his elbows on the open car window. When Dustin had no more space to Sam he walked around to the passenger seat and got in.
“Don’t give her a hard time, that’s not a lie, I’m nobody.” He said mournfully, batting his eyelashes and her, now completely bent over and resting his chin on his arms. Sam grinned at how close he was getting, though she leaned away all the same.
“That’s not true- you’re the best damn DM I’ve ever seen.” Dustin said enthusiastically, then thought for a moment. “Don’t tell Mike I said that.”
Eddie laughed and stood up. “Stay on my good side and I won’t, Henderson.”
“How do you guys know each other?” Dustin asked, obviously extremely curious.
“He sells me-” Sam started, only to be interrupted by Eddie.
“-concert tickets!”  he finished, and she glanced at him in confusion.
“I got….all the good seats.” He said kinda lamely, now leaning away from the  car and hanging onto the window.
“Yeah. All the good seats to all the great concerts that I go to now. In rural Indiana.” She said blankly and then stared at Dustin with a fake smile and she could see he wasn’t buying it.
Eddie stood up on his own two feet and taped the top of the van awkwardly a few times.
“See you round, Campbell. Henderson, figure out your level up stats and I swear to god if you don’t fix that -1 in agility I’m going to trap Ser Dragonthorn in a well and you’ll be stuck in there forever.” he said sincerely.
“I’m a barbarian I don’t have to be agile-” Dustin started, and Sam took the car out of park and slowly started to back away.
“Bye Eddie!” She said, cutting the conversation short and driving away, looking in the rear view a few times that he was staring after them and grinning.
---
Dustin sat back down and fiddled with the radio to get to his favorite station.
“How do you really know Eddie?”
Sam glanced at him in confusion. “What he said. He sells me pirated tapes or whatever.”
“Concert tickets. He said concert tickets.” Dustin said flatly, and Samantha frowned.
“He sells me both. Duh.” She said, and noticed Dustin getting quiet.
“Look, if he didn’t say anything it’s for a reason. You obviously look up to him and maybe he doesn’t want to ruin that by crossing wires or whatever.”
“You can’t say that- now I have to know!”
“Honestly, it’s not even a big deal. I don't know why he would even bother lying about it, you’re old enough to know that weed exists. You’re- what? 9?....17?””
    “I’m 15.”
“That’s about the middle of what I said. Whatever, it doesn’t matter.”
“So he sells you weed? That’s the big secret?” Dustin said, obviously disappointed, and Sam laughed.
“You look so disappointed, what were you expecting?” She said, and Dustin grinned.
“Maybe he fights real monsters on the weekend.” He said in a tone that made Sam feel like she was missing something. The mention of monsters soured her mood, flashes of what she saw that night at Starcourt flickering behind her eyelids while she stared at the road and tried not to blink.
“Monsters aren’t real, Dustin. You’re 15, you should know that.” She said quietly, and he could tell that her mood had changed.
“You’d be surprised.” Dustin said, almost to himself, and looked out the window.
She pulled up to his house and let him out, and she could see her dad and Dustin’s mom playing cards at the table. Dustin got out and waved goodbye, and she saw her dad look out the window at her van and wave. Sam waved back. She wanted to go inside, but the silhouette of Dustin came around the corner and hugged his mom, and high fived her dad. By the time he turned back to the window she had driven away.
----
Back at the trailer park she waited for Eddie to invite himself over but he didn’t come as soon as she had expected after she saw him come home and go into the trailer. She even saw little puffs of smoke coming from the window and she frowned. He didn’t have to come over, it’s not like they had standing plans or anything. Just as she was overthinking it she saw him walking towards her, and she leaned back in relief.
He sat down next to her and passed her a beer out of the six pack he was carrying, and she took it gingerly.
“You know Dustin asked me to play today. Told me that Eddie would be so pissed if they couldn’t find a sub.” She said, grinning. “Didn’t occur to me til I saw you that they might be talking about you.”
Eddie chuckled too. “Yeah, I didn’t really connect the dots either that Dustin was your step brother. What with how you’ve never said his name and he…never mentions you.”
There was something off about his voice that she couldn’t identify.
“He’s not really my brother.” She explained lamely, and he nodded. “Why didn’t you want me to tell him that you were selling weed?” She asked, and he screwed up his face for a minute, tensing up his shoulders before relaxing them.
“I dunno. They look up to me, y’know? Every year there’s always a couple of weird kids that don’t fit in and I want to- God damn this sounds so cheesy- I want to make a nice space where they can just be themselves. It’s not like it’s a secret and everybody figures it out eventually it’s just, with Dustin in particular…” He said, swaying back and forth and explaining himself. “I’ve never had a kid latch onto me and expect me to role model him like that. It’s a lot of pressure.” He finished, and Sam smiled.
“Sounds like you’ve got a new little brother. It’s sweet.” She said, and Eddie took a sip without looking at her.
“I mean, if you weren’t gonna do it then somebody should, right?” he said, and immediately looked guilty.
“Wow.” She said, sitting up from the relaxed position she had been in so she could look him in the eye. She shook her head, unsure how to respond.
“I’m sorry, it’s just- he talks about your dad Ron all the time and he’s never mentioned you. Sometimes his friends ask about you and all he has to say is ‘she’s not really my sister’ and that he’s too scared to talk to you.”
“I’m not his sister, though. Why is Dustin my responsibility all of a sudden, sounds like he’s got plenty of role models to go around.” She said, offended, and she sat quietly for a moment while his words sunk in a little more. “He’s too scared to talk to me?” She asked incredulously.
“Yeah. They all are.” He said it as if it was obvious. “I just- I know this whole ‘new family’ thing has been kinda hard on you, and you know I love the whole standoffish loner thing you’re doing now,” He said, clearly ramping up to something and trying to gather some courage, but she couldn’t figure out where he was going when he looked her in the eye.
“but I don’t like bullies- and if you’ve been giving Dustin or any of those other kids a hard time-”
“What? No, of course not. I'm not giving anybody a hard time.” She said angrily.
“Then why are they all scared of you?”
    “Because they don’t know me!”
    “And why is that?”
“Because I don’t talk to them. I’m a standoffish loner, remember?” She said, kinda defeated and thinking back to all her past interactions with Dustin to search for anything that would have scared him. She couldn’t come up with anything, but she certainly couldn’t come up with any moments of connection either.
“Okay, maybe I haven’t exactly put in any effort with him but I haven’t done anything mean to him either.” She admitted begrudgingly, and Eddie seemed to accept that, looking like he felt guilty for insinuating anything. But she was glad that he said it, whether or not he had a point or not (she knew he did), that meant that somebody was looking out for Dustin. Somebody should if she wasn’t, after all. That thought struck her as selfish in the quiet lack of conversation until Eddie spoke again.
“Man, I’m sorry. Maybe I’m just sick of hearing him complain about your empty bedroom.” He said with a weak laugh, obviously he had said what he came to say and hadn’t thought much beyond that.
    “What?” She asked, confused.
“He complains about your empty bedroom constantly. Annoys the shit out of me.” He said. “ Always talks about how his mom was thinking about buying a computer before she cleaned out the whole office so that you could come and live there. How he keeps asking to put his damn radios back in there but his mom says no every time because she wouldn’t want to make you feel unwelcome.”
Sam paused. She didn’t know that. She had suggested that they just get rid of the room once and her dad said no, but she didn’t know that Claudia cared or that her not being there was causing any kind of absence in their family. She shook her head and chewed on the inside of her cheek, trying not to think of any symbolism there.
“Next time…” she paused, unsure what she wanted to say. “Next time he asks me to play DnD with you guys I’ll say yes. And maybe I’ll think about sleeping in that empty bedroom. Maybe.” she said to Eddie, and smiled when he grinned. “And for what it’s worth, I’m glad that you’re looking out for him enough to talk to me about this.” she said, honestly, and he looked away bashfully in a way she thought was very sweet.
“I’m just worried he does have enough badass influences in his life. I don’t want him to be a mini Steve Harrington.” He mused, and Sam laughed incredulously.
“Why would you possibly have to worry about that?”
“They’re like, best friends.” He said, and she gaped at him.
“Why?”
“I have no idea. Dustin worships him, though.” He said, clearly irritated.  Sam squinted into the night sky contemplatively.
“Is Dustin really cool, or has Steve Harrington massively fallen from grace?” She asked, and Eddie snorted a laugh.
“He works at the video store with Robin Buckley and apparently spends all his time with her and the kids he babysits or whatever, so I think so.” He said smugly.
“As opposed to you who…doesn’t have a job, only hangs out with me and the exact same kids in the official school club that you are technically the administrator of.” She said, even more smugly than him, and he rewarded her by falling backward onto the mattress.
“You’re killing me, Sam. Literally. I’m literally cursed and going to die because you keep calling me a sellout.” He complained, and she laughed, feeling more free than she had since getting back to Hawkins.
“Yup. Sellout, total corpo. Might as well be wearing a damn necktie.” She said, starting to giggle freely and he joined, though it died down quickly with a soft look between them that made her feel ridiculous for not thinking of him as a real friend until now. Glancing away back at the evening she decided that it was time to stop living her life at arm's length, and now she knew she had somebody to do it with.

My Top 10 Favorite Musical Movies
I love top 10 lists for no legitimate reason, and I really don’t understand why they’re a thing other than the fact that they’re somewhat pleasing in some inexplicable way. So here’s one of my “Top 10s” lists. Enjoy
10. Into the Woods
Honestly, this one just makes this list because I enjoy shitting on it. Although it was decently cast, I’m still not sure what Johnny Depp was doing as the wolf (or even why the wolf was present? Does he actually serve a purpose to the ultimate story? Didn’t think so). Anna Kendrick is always charming, and frankly, her “On the Steps of the Palace” song was just fabulous. And sure, intertwining fairytales sounds like a cool or innovative idea, but seriously, it’s been done so many times (re: abc’s Once Upon a Time, Cornelia Funke’s Reckless books, etcetera)--and perhaps Sondheim did do it before it became a “thing”--but the movie comes across as tacky, boring, and generally pointless. Next.
9. Sweeney Todd: the Demon Barber of Fleet Street
Also known as, What Happens When Tim Burton Directs a Musical. It’s almost so gaudy it works, but not quite. Helena Bonham Carter does some good work in this one, but certainly not her best. It’s almost a shame to see someone who has done such beautiful movies as A Room with a View and The Wings of the Dove fall into this constant cycle of playing these borderline goofy characters (see Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella, Dark Shadows, etc.--none of which I did not enjoy, by the way; I absolutely loved all three of these mentioned films, but HBC plays such one-dimensional characters it’s f r u s t r a t i n g. Johnny Depp was actually nominated for a Golden Globe for this movie, which I don’t think was necessarily called for, but did he win? Nope. Wasn’t going to. When the kid and the mostly mute prison girl are the best parts of the cast, something isn’t working right. Plus, the movie was just so gray. I get it, London is no pretty city, but--oh, wait, yes it is. London’s beautiful, shut the fuck up.
8. La La Land
Oh, La La Land. So right, but so, so damn wrong! I adore this movie, although it took me three times to watch the full movie to get to this point of appreciation. When I first left the cinema, I was livid. I had gone with my aunt and uncle for my birthday, and we all left just frustrated. Damien Chazelle had given us such a visually stunning and cinematically innovative film, but he also gave us a shit excuse for a love story. Honestly, Mr. Chazelle, please don’t write another script. Leave that to actual writers. You stick with cinematic brilliance, hun. Thanks, x. Justin Horwitz, however, ABSOLUTELY KILLED IT. The music is astounding. Simply astounding. I had the privilege of seeing La La Land at the Hollywood Bowl with a live orchestra, and damn, it was good. It was so good. Ryan Gosling is nothing special (unfortunately!), and as much of a bitch as Emma Stone’s Mia is, she absolutely deserved that Oscar. Now about the singing: frankly, I didn’t mind it. I have friends who hated it (because they’re trained singers so they have a bit of a superiority complex about these kinds of things), but as someone who cannot particularly sing well myself, I enjoyed seeing two more realistic characters thrown into a musical world and pull it off more than adequately well.
7. The Phantom of the Opera
I want to rank this higher. I really, really, really do. But for obvious reason, I cannot. The singing is mediocre, and the acting is even worse. I don’t know who cast Gerard Butler, but yikes. A lot of the editing is rather shoddy, and as much as I do love Minnie Driver as Carlotta, they should have chosen an actual opera singer instead of choosing a decently known Hollywood name. Also, the deformity is literal horse shit. Just horse shit. But now the good things: 1. Patrick Wilson; yes! I absolutely love his Raoul. He’s tragic and a little girly and a bit of a pussy but so in love that he steps up when he needs to. And his voice is arguably the best in comparison with his coworkers’. 2. The cinematography and set design are stunning, absolutely stunning. I get the chills every time the chandelier is raised during the “Overture”, and although the Phantom’s lair isn’t exactly a house on a lake, I thought it was very reminiscent of the stage production, which I appreciated greatly. 3. The costumes! Jesus! Although Christine’s “Think of Me” dress does not go with the time period of the opera she’s supposed to be performing and the Phantom’s last few costumes are waaaaay too hot, I thought the costume department did a fabulous job creating dazzling costumes that just worked with the whole “pretty” feel of the film. 4. They nail the story. I remember watching Phantom as a child and sobbing every time I finished it. The Phantom doesn’t deserve Christine, but he deserves to know what love is just like any other man, and in telling this, the story succeeds.
6. Grease
I’m not one for teen movies, I’m just not. Clueless is nice, and Heathers has a special place in my heart, but I’ve never been into the whole high school drama film thing. Still, I must admit that I loved Grease. I refused to watch it for the longest time because I had a friend who literally based his entire look on Danny Zuko, and it was so obnoxious I refused to watch the film. Plus John Travolta has always sort of creeped me out. But I gave in, and I was so surprised. Olivia Newton-John is just darling as Sandra Dee, John Travolta isn’t unbearable as Danny Zuko, and Frenchy is such a charming character, but the one person I think gets so overlooked but could be such a show-stealer is Rizzo. Stockard Channing set the bar high for this character, as she does a fantastic job conveying the too-cool-for-school but has-a-heart-of-gold-kinda Rizzo. My favorite player on the Chicago Cubs is Anthony Rizzo because of this movie (Can you tell I’m not a huge sports fan?).
5. Chicago
Many people call this the best musical movie ever made, and really, it’s very, very well done. I mean, it is. A movie doesn’t get six Academy Awards just because. The dancing is actual fire, Richard Gere is one dazzling bastard, and Catherine Zeta-Jones absolutely steals the show as Velma Kelly. Sorry, Renée Zellweger. Zellweger's Roxie is charming, sure, but she comes off as so weak a character and a person that it’s difficult to even enjoy most of her scenes. The set designs are nothing spectacular, but what makes everything come together is the musical numbers (somewhat ironic, because almost every musical number physically departs from the story’s setting). “All That Jazz” is a killer opening, Queen Latifah’s “When You’re Good to Mama” is too much fun, “Cell Block Tango” practically changed the game for musical movie choreography, and where do I even begin with “Roxie”? Spoiler: it was Zellweger’s most convincing scene, but that’s almost completely due to the choreography and set design. Chicago will certainly be studied in film schools in years to come. As much as there is on the surface of the film, there is so much more than meets the eye, and for all these reasons, Chicago is a fabulous, fabulous film.
4. Les Misérables
I actually considered ranking this between Phantom and Chicago but ultimately decided to move it up. Victor Hugo’s novel is a challenge for a number of reasons, but chief among them being the massive span of time his novel covers. So a musical version obviously has to fit this all within three hours, and say what you will, I do believe Les Mis does a good job. The story is obviously cut down tremendously, but it really does not lose much (if any) of the message it has to offer. Now, the film is not perfect. For instance, I absolutely hated Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe. I really did. A lot of people hated Amanda Seyfried, but I really loved her portrayal of Cosette (but maybe just the acting part, her singing is a bit shaky). Samantha Barks and Eddie Redmayne are class-acts, and HBC does a fine job as Mme. Thenardier. I almost have nothing to say about Anne Hathaway. Her performance speaks for itself. I sob every time Fantine dies. She is so, so, so, so good. And three cheers for Colm Wilkinson. He’s just a great guy and a great performer. The film’s direction is often debated, whether it is good or bad, but I really thought it was quite good and quite different from what others might have done. Tom Hooper took advantage of the screen in ways the stage cannot be taken advantage of, offering the audience a chance to look closely at the faces of the actors, to really appreciate the emotional tolls the characters endure.
3. Cabaret
Liza Minelli embodies Sally Bowles. I mean, never have I ever believed so strongly that an actor was born for a role, but Minelli was born for Sally, and as the soul of the show, she breathes life into the film and somehow manages to carry the story on her shoulders. Joel Grey is a fantastic Emcee, and the supporting characters are great as well. Although I don’t care for several of the subplots, I thought the primary storytelling was borderline flawless (except for the ghastly ending; Lord help me, I have so many qualms with the ending; the level of vague is off the charts and unnecessarily so). But the singing is splendid and the dancing is spectacular. The way the Kit Kat Club fits into the story almost as a character itself is subtle and brilliant, and just about every single set is exactly how I imagine it should be. Again, Liza Minelli was born for this, and she rightly won the Oscar for Best Actress. Go you, Liza. Lots of love, x.
2. Moulin Rouge!
Usually, I would consider Moulin Rouge! my favorite movie of all time, but I’ll explain in the next entry why this is not the case for this list. Like I said, this is my favorite film of all time, and for a plethora of reasons. 1. It is unique and innovative; Moulin Rouge! made the 21st-century musical possible, and everything from Chicago to La La Land owes much to Baz Luhrmann. 2. Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman’s chemistry is everything. They work well together, they sound good together, and they carry Luhrmann’s admittingly wild storytelling techniques with grace and fun. 3. The sets and general production design. This entire movie was filmed in a single room (granted, a very, very large room), but Luhrmann creates a world so vivid and so alive that it hardly feels claustrophobic. 4. The music is different but familiar and well-orchestrated. Luhrmann did something most people wouldn’t even think twice about doing because it’s “tacky” or “unoriginal”, but he instead takes familiar and beloved songs, sets them all to a beautiful story about love and loss, and creates a new musical so vibrant, it changed the face of the musical genre.
1. The Sound of Music
The Sound of Music. Arguably the greatest musical of all time, The Sound of Music is a timeless story of faith, love, war, family, and hope. The only musical on this list based on the actual events of Maria Kutschera and her life as the governess and step-mother of the von Trapp children, The Sound of Music embodies everything a musical (and a good story!) should be. Life is no fairytale--it is full of hard times and beautiful times and times when it seems the whole world will collapse upon itself. Life is no fairytale, and as beautiful as this film is, it relates to its audience real life morals and real life messages that should be taken to heart by anyone in search of a happy life. Julie Andrews is the only person to embody a character more than Liza Minelli embodies Sally Bowles, and her Maria is a sweet, powerful, kind woman, who, though unsure of the direction her life will go, stands for what she believes in and positively changes the lives of so many along the way. Christopher Plummer is the perfect Captain von Trapp, and the children are perfectly cast as well. Actually, fuck it, the whole cast is perfect. Governess Elsa Schräder, Max Detweiler, and the Mother Abbess are flawless secondary characters, who come and go throughout the film flawlessly. I would also like to note how it stayed in cinemas for FOUR YEARS after its release. Now that’s a bloody good film. The sets and cinematography are fabulous, the script is so well done it’s unreal, and the songs--the songs!!!--are as good as they are iconic (and damn, are they iconic).
So here is my first (second, actually) post on Tumblr. Cheers. x
