Why are the youths trying to bring back the landline? Do they really think having an old school Garfield phone is somehow ironic and hip? It's not. Yet The Guardian says some kids want them purely as decor - lifeless husks mounted on their walls like the head of a hunted deer. Is that the extent of their vision? The phone companies are practically begging people to ditch the landlines, yet the hipster breed keeps zapping these relics with jolts of electricity to simulate life. Why swim against the stream of history? If you want less digital noise, get one of those new stripped-down mobiles like the Light Phone 2. Disconnect from the internet or whatever it is you youngsters feel you need respite from these days. But don't drag us back to the technological stone age.

I ditched my landline in '06 when cell plans went national. I once ran up a $112 bill calling my Kentucky native gaming friend on the landline. Lo and behold calling them on my cellphone back then was absolutely free. The only memories I have of that old plastic nuisance are high blood pressure and anxiety. It was the sound of bad news - schools closing, car accidents, cats run over and dead in the street. The endless trilling was a call to panic.

So let the past die, kids. Stop this revival nonsense. We've enough e-waste strangling the planet. Mobiles suit me fine, and I'll wager someday you young lot will feel the same.

Take my advice - don't go looking for magic in technology that's already failed you once. Progress marches forward. The only footsteps you'll find behind you are your own.

the other day my dad texted me that his neighbor friend had a neighbor friend who was giving away a vintage sofa and did i want it? and it turns out that the second neighbor friend sometimes works as a contractor sourcing furniture for the winchester mystery house (though this sofa was in her regular mystery house, where a rabbit chewed on it a little bit)
