Heeeeeeeeeeey! How are you? I wanted to know if you could do a oneshot where Reader is a gem hanging out with the cool kids + Pink Lars? And they're like, attacked by a bad gem and Reader poofs them and gets out like a baddass?

Buck Dewey, Jenny Pizza, and Sour Cream & Lars with Gem Reader

"So what exactly are we doing?" You asked as you were hanging out with a new bunch of humans.

"A bonfire!" Said Jenny as she drove you and everyone else out into nowhere.

The only one you kinda knew was Lars, only because he was pink and hard to not noticed. Steven and a few others have pushed you into trying to hang out with humans.

So you ended up here, in a car with a bunch of humans.

"So how do you enjoy your new look?" Asked Buck. "Since you've came back from your corruption, Steven told us that when that happened to other gems and they came back look different."

Oh. That's right, you do look different now.

"Oh. I didn't really noticed. I'm fine with it, I think it makes me look cool sometimes." You told them.

"Well you definitely look cool." Said Lars. "I should know something about having a new look." He said before everyone laughed.

You had arrived at a clearing in a forest. Clearly people have done this before as there was already wood in a pile.

"Does anyone have a lighter?" Asked Sour Cream and everyone shook their head no.

"Hang I got this." You said before shoot a fireball at the wood and it light up in flames.

"Aw! Thanks (Y/n)! You're a real life saver. We would have to go back if it weren't for you." Said Jenny.

"You're welcome, what do humans usually do around a pile of fire?" You asked as now not knowing what to do.

"There's usually alot more people here and we would dance and have a party but since it's the 5 of us. Why don't we tell scary stories?" Suggested Sour Cream.

"And then marshmallows." Said Buck, holding up a bag of them.

"That's sound cool." Said Lars.

"Yesss. We are totally doing this." Said Jenny.

Human do not know how to actually be scary, you thought to yourself as you listen to each and every story. Buck was clearly the one who told the scariest to the others as he had gotten the most reaction.

"Thank goodness for marshmallows to calm my heart." Said Sour Cream as he stuffed some in his mouth and then stabbed one on a stick.

"Why are you stabbing it?" You asked him.

"For a roasted marshmallow." He said and showed you how to cook marshmallows.

"That's very interesting. Thank you for showing me." You said before hearing a growl from the woods.

"What was that?" Asked Jenny.

"Probably a wild anim-!" Said Lars, getting interrupted as a corrupted gem jump in front of the group.

"Never mind on the animal part." Said Buck as the group slowly crept away from the gem.

You stood still, knowing what just to do when it attacked and when it jumped at you to attack, you took out your weapon and cut the gem down in one blow.

You bubbled the gem.

"Lars. Keep this safe until we can get to Steven." You said handing the bubble to him and he stored it in his hair.

"Wow! You didnt tell us you so amazing!" Said Jenny hugging you.

"Guess this means I actually am a lifesaver."

I know I'm going slow and not answering alot of asks. I'm just going through a slew where I don't want to do anything creative and that's diffently something I think something for so I'm sorry.

I've gotten on antidepressants and they had to up my dose since it wears off way before and I just been getting use to having the feeling of wanting to something.

Favorite character: Peridot! Also Pearl and Spinel.

Least Favorite character: I’m not Jasper’s biggest fan, tbh…

5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): Lapidot, Spinearl and Connverse are the three I actually like-like. Then VolleyPearl and RosePearl, I guess. Plus a really crack pairing: Skinny!Jasper X Nice!Lapis. I’d have loved to see a healthy Malachite!

Character I find most attractive: I’m straight, but considering that in the main cast the males are either a 16/17 year old boy (I’m turning 29 this September) or a middle aged man (Greg)… I mean, there also are Lars, Buck Dewey and Sour Cream, but they’re not my type… So, I’m gonna have a bi moment and say Pearl: she looks amazing in a suit! (Also… Spinel like this. HOT DAMN. Curse you, @thelostmoongazer! XD)

Character I would marry: Which girl/woman wouldn’t dream of finding and marrying a guy like Steven? (Ignore the age gap, I’m talking about personality here, not the actual 16/17 year old character)

Character I would be best friends with: Peridot (we would fangirl over lots of things/series) and Pearl (let’s have OCD together! :D)

A random thought: ♫ Here comes a thought… ♫

An unpopular opinion: They really should have done Peridot and Lapis’ relationship much better in the end. They go from enemies to friends to barnmates to it’s-so-almost-canon-I-can-taste-it, then Lapis screws everything up and flies away with Peridot’s barn (it was hers before Lapis decided to stay on Earth), Peridot is desperate, then Lapis returns and their last onscreen interaction is “It’s really you…” “…Hey.”. Done?! That’s it?! I wanted them to talk about the problems they have with themselves and their relationship and culminate this loving, patient and trustful relationship into a not-permanent fusion, that could show that one bad experience doesn’t negate the possibility of good, especially if the good one is with someone you love and trust. (I love this fic) …Okay, I’ll stop rambling.

My Canon OTP: You’ll have to pry Lapidot away from my cold dead hands Connverse. In the end, these two are only onscreen canon relationship.

My Non-canon OTP: *grumbles* LAPIDOT! And Spinearl.

Most Badass Character: You just can’t watch what Steven has been through and not call him badass. The boy deserves to be called badass.

Most Epic Villain: Spinel.

Pairing I am not a fan of: Jaspis (Jasper X Lapis): that’s a toxic relationship, people. I also don’t really like Pearlmethyst and Amedot, but with the fans of these two ships I have zero problems interacting with: they’re healthy relationships, at least.

Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): Pretty much everything about Jasper is screwed up and toxic, but the worst part is that they “reformed” her by having her being shattered by Steven, come back to life and suddenly become Steven’s butt-kisser (in her own way). JASPERS STANS, I WON’T ARGUE ABOUT THIS/HER WITH YOU, SO DON’T BOTHER SENDING ME ASKS ABOUT THIS. I also didn’t like Lapis taking everything from Peridot and flying away, tbh.

Favourite Friendship: I live for the BROTP that is Steven and Peridot! The episode “In Dreams” was the culmination of a beautiful friendship! *chef’s kiss*

Character I most identify with: Pearl (She’s such a ISTJ Virgo!) And also Peridot (Let’s fangirl about this thing until everyone else is exasperated!).

Character I wish I could be: Spinel, maybe? She’s a literal toon, that’s so cool!

Gen1

Chocolate Chip (Chippy) - bleblesscra cat that Blez brought in secretly at first, but Jess found Chippy chilling in the bathroom. Chippy is very affectionate and clingy. She's brown and white. Her favorite people are Jess, Blez, and Kaya (which is funny cause Kaya hates furry animals)

Kira 2.0 - Logan's dog he adopted after his first one died (also named Kira). She's a hyper german shepherd, and is super attached to Logan. She thinks she's a lap dog.

Kaneki - Michael's blue maine coon. He named him Kaneki after the protag in tokyo ghoul. Notorious food thief.

Robin - a mischievous and playful fox. His name was something Michael suggested. He's very fond of Avery, to the point where Zenn jokes that Robin might as well be Avery's pet.

Rigby - the Celieday raccoon. He's an asshole to everyone but Celieday. He can be pretty destructive at times, as well as a food thief. His favorites are strawberries and cheez its

Ligma - jase's egyptian mau mix. He thought it would be funny at the time to name her that. She avoids Jase and Zeon, and sometimes will destroy or pee on their things. She is very fond of Kael, Blee, and Sacra. Ligma can seem to sense when Jase really needs the comfort, tho, because she will climb all over him when he's sad

Vernon - Adrien's crested gecko. Alora and Adrien Jr picked out his name. Vernon doesn't have much of a personality, he's just vibing

Gen2

Lars - the fluffy grey and white cat Grant adopted shortly after moving out of his sister's house. Grant named him Lars bc of his metallica obsession. Lars is unpredictable. He can be very sweet sometimes, then very mean at other times. He seems to dislike Damon the most, and other than Grant, his favorite people are Jase, Venus, and then later on Devon.

Nightmare - Arvid's tarantula he got in sixth grade. Scarlette and Sebastian call Nightmare "Pudding" because Arvid hates when they do that. Arvid says that his name is Nightmare because he will live inside other people's nightmares once they take over the world, but he actually initially called him that because Arvid suffered from frequent nightmares at the time and he hoped Nightmare's presence would help fight them off.

Shelby - Arianna's dog. She originally wanted to adopt a cat, but none of the cats at the shelter really stood out to her. When she looked at the dogs, Shelby did stand out to her. She doesn't really know why. Shelby is a german shepherd boxer lab mix. He's super loveable and protective over Arianna, but he also stays by Sacra's side a lot too.

Lola - Casey's german sheprador he adopted after moving into his own place. She's his emotional support animal, and helps keep Casey calm.

Pink Lemonade - Harrison's little white mouse. He originally got her to impress Venus after Galatea convinced him Venus liked mice. He was going to get rid of Lemonade when he found out Venus didn't actually like mice, but Kat convinced him to keep her and they both take care of Lemonade together

Lucky - Blezbian's black cat. She found her injured in the street, and she and Michael took her to the vet. She hadn't been chipped, and she wanted to adopt her. Michael agreed to let her. Blezbian called her Lucky ironically at first, but it stuck. She's very sweet but hates being picked up.

Roe - Cyra's corn snake. He's mostly just vibing but he's also an escape artist. Roe loves to chill on Cyra's head. She doesn't get to have Roe until much later, obviously.

Jenga and Sour Cream - Adrien Jr's red eye tree frogs. Jenga was named by Devon, while he was the one to name Sour Cream. He likes to make little hats and frog sized furniture for them.

A and X - Grant's two angelfish. He wasn't caring for them properly at first, but when Ezra moved in he kind of took over them by getting a better aquarium for them. A and X are basically Ezra's fish now

Loopy and Fresca - the black and white bunnies Arvid took in after he moves in with Izan (and Avery). Loopy was named by Izan, and Fresca was named by Avery. Loopy is very Odd. Fresca is a sweetheart.

Banshee - Josine's cream and white cat. She was named Banshee because she is Very Loud. She is of course very close to Zander, but she does not like Kiyan and Trioti. She also fights with any other cat she comes in contact with.

Beano - Kiyan's fluffy cream and white cat. He's a chaotic asshole that kills lots of smaller animals and brings them back to Kiyan and Jax. Beano tears up anything paper, and often knocks Kiyan's puzzle pieces around

Judy - Dallon's grey cat. She's also Zander's cat, technically.

Legato - a blue budgie that Adrien got for Alora. He's a very social and lively bird that loves to chill near Alora whenever possible. He can say some simple words and phrases like his own name, but I imagine Alora and Galatea also teach him to say weird shit too. he also says Arvie everytime he sees Arvid, and Alora gives him treats when he does

Bandit - Arvid's solid white cat. She's missing an eye, and she tends to be very nervous around everyone but Arvid and Scarlette. She is warming up to Izan, Amanda, and Fel. Arvid initially wanted to get a cat after he found out that Chuck had one, but he acquired many more reasons for why he wanted one. He convinced his parents, and they let him adopt a cat. Arvid declared her as his second evil sidekick.

Like Jamie, lars, sour cream and so on. I just need a lil something like this because people were making fun of me at school when I took out my insulin. I’m in 11th grade rip

Jamie, Lars, Sour Cream, Buck, Jenny, and Sadie meeting diabetic!Reader

I only know stuff about type 1

Also I will fight those people for you because you are amazing.

Jamie-

• All was normal until your meter to check your blood sugar and he questions you.

• You explain what it is and why you need to do this.

• "So you need to check your blood sugar so you can give yourself insulin in witch you can live."

• "Simple version, yes."

• He would question you every now and then on what you can or can't eat.

• "I can eat everything, just better if I know what's in it."

Lars -

• "Why are you sticking a needle in your leg?!" He yelled/questioned you.

• "Because it's what needed for my existence! Why are you pink?!" You yelled back.

• You were enjoying your lunch and he walked buy just as you were giving yourself some insulin.

• He yelled why he was pink and sat down in front of you.

• "So for you existence?" He questioned and you laughed at yourself and explained yourself better.

• He offered to give you free dessert for yelling at you and then questioned you if you could have it.

• "Of course! I might have to stick a needle on my leg again though so don't yell this time."

Sour Cream -

• You were at one of his races when your sugar dropped so you had to rush to food table to get it back up.

• He noticed that you look nervous as you ate something while taking out your meter.

• He put on a song before going to you to see what's up.

• "Are you okay? You seem nervous." He asked.

• "Oh, my blood sugar dropped so I need to eat something and check it to see how low it is." You explained.

• "What?"

• He didn't understand so you had to explain the whole shebang to him.

• "Next time, I'll bring something in case this happens again while you're here."

Buck -

• He noticed you were getting out your meter after getting your food.

• He actually knows someone diabetic so he didn't really is the deal there.

• "Is your blood sugar low?" He asked you.

• "Oh no, I just have to see how much insulin I need to take." You said. "Usally people ask me why I am doing this. It is nice to meet someone who asks about my blood sugar."

• You guys talked as you ate your food.

Jenny -

• She saw you getting out your things after giving your food.

• "What are you doing? Do you have a food allergy?" She asked.

• You shook your head no.

• "I'm diabetic, I have to give myself insulin before and sometimes after eating, depending on my blood sugar and what's in the food."

• "Cool." She said before asking the basics questions and you answered them all.

• She left after being yelled that she was not on break

Sadie -

• She also knows someone diabetic!

• So she rushed to help after seeing your shaking hands trying to prick your finger for blood.

• "Here let me help please." She said.

• "Of course." You said, hand her the finger pricker. "Can you put a new needle in it?"

• "Totally."

• She did that as you were eating your emergency snack/drink.

• After getting your finger pricked and eating enough of your emergency snack/drink.

• "Thank you. My blood sugar just shot down."

• "It was no problem, I didn't want to leave you here alone." Said Sadie.

• The two of you chatted until you checked your blood sugar and it was back to normal.

• She also gave you, her number.

Warning depressed overindulgent rant about kids cartoon incoming

I’m cross-posting that’s from spacebattles. You know I really need to start posting some positive s*** about Steven Universe. There’s a reason why it keeps getting my attention. I really love the setup, there are wonderful events, I love that its Aim so well. It’s managed to assemble a number of things as well as had a way of interacting with fans that encourages creativity and a community that produces so much that can be loved and expresses Joy.

I guess I’m just a natural Grump and I can only talk about things when I’m pissed off or think I’m being smart by dissecting it. Which in my mind means needlessly ranting about every silly little thing that I observe about a work or feel about a work or I feel about the people that I’m watching the work alongside. I understand if this is not the kind of thing that you like. I can also understand if you want to be defensive of the show. Just respect the fact that I’m a person who has watched the show for a bit or just a person at all. But I do want to have some sort of discussion. It is why I am posting this out loud. It’s just with the ramp up for more speculation and another interview I just feel like we’ve been at this dance so many damn times and we’re just being jerked around here. Which of course is the purpose of any work of art. At least serial media. You constantly give just enough so that people feel inclined to come back for more. But I guess well read the rant

No mo, it felt much much worse. See Lost had no answers when it was written. It was created to pile up mysteries for a season or so and then get cancled like Twin Peams and every ither wekrd mystery show so they never had to answer any. It became too popular to cancel and they had to scramble to invent answers. SU has had dorwshadowing and setup as warly as season 1. It knows what it is doing.

.... I personally think that Steven Universe's character development and pacing is hampered by the fact that it wants to make everything a f****** mystery. This was a characteristic of Lost in a way that it got ridiculous. To the point where things like what's on Jack's tattoo or who is married or who was not or who had a terminal illness that they had known publicly forever and so on and so forth.

I think Steven Universe suffers from the same problem. Basic character development, interaction, or what-have-you tends to be put in a mystery box just so that that way we can create drama and then have it emerge later to create a resolution without progress.

The problem is that while mystery is their main tool in this endeavor to set up interest it's not the only way in which they do this and then be annoying. Now some of this is the fans frothing themselves up.

relevant example, when we see a title and then flip out about major speculation for a major plot point and then get disappointed when it's basically not so.

However I think this is in a part with all of their setup plot developments. As an example the return of Marty.

I actually want to be very fair-minded here. The Sour Cream situation identity and everything about him was very carefully set up over the course of a year and it actually made sense for once that he was a relatively new char in Stevens life. He's apparently older, runs with a different crowd, all that stuff.

Marty comes back for one episode

Not only do they run the most cliched plot imaginable about a deadbeat father and artsy dreamer son and the man who doesn’t get their passion but they do this basically to setup a virtue signal and reconcile sour cream and yellowtail in perhaps the worst way imaginable. In the first episode they actually share a scene.

But they don't share a scene in anyway proceeding to their actual reconciliation. All of that is cut aside just so that we can get to our cute little happy ending. This kind of ran things into the ground for me in some ways. Everybody defends moves of aborted long-term plot like this by saying that Steven Universe is more about people and characters and it is not about big plot twists and Sci-Fi Action.

That might be true but they're doing that character and living the life stuff in a bad way as well. By not having the family reconcile but by having Yellowtail basically come around and agree because Sour Cream suddenly has a villain for Yellowtail to prove immediately better than.

For a show that's often praised for its diversity and lack of stock archetypes this was too cliche You see this time and again with long setup plot points whether it's the eventual return and revelation of the backstory of lapis Lazuli, the face off with the cluster, and others- That isn't to say all long-term plot points have fallen on their face but a lot of them have and it seems as if what succeeds or what gets the necessary follow-up is arbitrary and random

This isn't the usual complaint of "this is filler! where is the plot?" This happens whether it's character Focus-interaction that often feels as if it's taking forever to happen or gets bogged down in Mindless drama such as the entire relationship between Sadie and Lars to the point that Lars doesn't feel as if he has a real character until these last 7 or so episodes.

He was basically the Grump. A cartoon stock archetype, a television stock archetype, a place talk archetype.

You didn't have to think about why he was grumpy because there was no reason other than to make him and grumpy. And remember this is the longest term character that's been on the show (was in the pilot) and he had a ridiculously thin characterization.

All of this would still be bad even if he didn't have a plot line that made me cringe

Sure there are a lot of scenarios where the Zoo could be where it is and Pinks holdings only cover the solar system but just looking at what we have seen so far it looks like Pink administrated space covers more -shrug- How the Gempire is governed is sure to be more complex than X diamond runs this area and Y diamond runs that area anyway.

And this just all ties it together. We get all of this stuff that's supposed to matter then push it all to the side and then come up with confrontation that's in many ways not satisfying because there's no build-up or it's just confusing or inevitably leads to more stupid questions that aren't even asked in the show. I guess what makes this so frustrating is that the show has great set up. it does set up very well. But every time, or at least many times, when it's time for the payoff for those Domino's to go it always goes off like a bad fart.

All of these are pointing to the same issue. . .

For some people this is the climax of The Cluster. For others It's the Return of Marty. For others it's The Search For Answers. Some others feel disappointed because they think that there hasn't been enough queer text in the show. Others feel like characters are often push the Wayside and not given enough time to interact with the world shaking plot. All of these are pointing to the same issue, broadly speaking. Crewniverse throws something in the air but they don't follow through. Or they passport or just suddenly resolve something with another IOU.

The weird part is when they do this with a plot point they say that it's about the people. But Fusion Cuisine (wryyyyy) I think keeps hurting me because it's the episode that proves they don't respect people and character interaction.

Character interaction has to have consequences. Those consequences can be negative. It can be positive but it has to arise and seem to follow from each other. Subtle or flagrant but the consequences of character interaction, if having dramatic focus, have to be observable and meaningful. Instead, all too often, we see artificial ways in order to create drama and then arbitrarily end or ignore it. For some people this is Stevens disturbing naivete childish behavior when he supposed to be a mid teenager. The lack of follow-up questions or the way that plot points will conveniently go off screen for months at a time only to then pop up in order to keep up interest and tease us and then come off with a lack of resolution despite lots of build up to no change or wasted opportunity.

I think one thing that's bothering me is the reintroduction of there being some mystery to the death of Pink Diamond and Rose Quartz's crime against her. We've been here. already. we know what the answer is supposed to be. And yet apparently there's a new mystery.

Only I bet this new mystery is going to end up just as dissatisfying as “What is Lapis’s backstory?” or “How are we going to find Malachite?” or “How are we going to resolve The Cluster?” or “How will Beach City recover and her people deal with overwhelming change and trauma of an unnatural disaster?”

This shows up in other ways such as the not taking care of the Rubies when they have a ship. Or the fact that Homeworld keeps taking its sweet damn time in order to take care of the Crystal Gems and Earth even when it keeps on being a hostile instigator in the lives of the gems.

And I think Fusion Cuisine is emblematic of this fault with regards to character stories and showing that statement about character over grand plots as a poor excuse. They will create a situation that literally doesn't require any crisis which won’t be treated or result as one. The family just needed basic common sense or respect, even between strangers, and then they won't follow through on the natural consequences of the family’s disrespectful lies or dangerous actions.

And underlying this is a sense of- I don't know- condescension or virtue signaling? On one level the Crewmiverse really do follow through on the implication that yes Steven has a queer family. On the other it feels as if they've set up the Maheshwarens as strawman that they've spent the rest of their appearance just being someone in order to goof with. I still claim this due to the fact that Dr. Maheshwaren is treated as if she's overprotective or crazy because controls her daughter media consumption; when connie lied to her (twice) regarding her experiences and activities with STeven and his family. She lies about taking dangerous lessons from a person who partook in an assault of her daughter and has expressed bigoted opinions of her race -as in the human race- for months. This disobedience, to make Connie a fighter, is Justified because the story made Dr. Maheshwaren too damn stupid to notice not only does her daughter not wear her glasses anymore but that the three limbed candy colored being with no heartbeat is a gem Fusion and Connie saves her from it. So the resolution is Connie NEEDS to be a sword fighter for the growing dangers of the Cluster.

For a show that keeps purporting being about togetherness, the cast herding and other things kind of put that as a lie. And Fusion Cuisine is an exemplary of this. It exists for a lot of reasons, but the number one thing it ends up doing is helping justify this sense of distance between humanity and the gems and completely ignoring ways in which they can come together and be understood. Or conflict and come to resolution and understanding. So the character conflicts and development feel artificial or low stakes or superfluous and the plot and combat and Magic feels as if its always being sandbagged for these meaningless character beats.

I think the show is going to lose me. And I don't think there's any big thing that it can do now to convince me. It's spent so much of the goodwill and belief from its initial run and set up. It has undermined all of it set up when it's actually gotten anywhere. I no longer trust the show to turn out to be well. At least in a way that I think will be satisfying for when they pull another “wait until you see the payoff for this” move AGAIN. And I suspect it's going to keep misfiring in ways while implying that it's so damn clever.

There's just something incredibly artificial about Lars being captured with Steven and effectively telling all of his emotional issues that I feel like they have not been appropriately Illustrated despite multiple character Focus episodes. And given the track record on how long it takes to actually engage with plot points or how they can be unsatisfying-ly resolved and then put out the way until they are unsatisfying-ly resolved is also bothersome.

I was kind of okay with the end of The Cluster but I also understand how that could frustrate some. But one way that I can agree it was bad is we effectively spend all this time setting up the end of the world and the resolution of The Cluster basically put it out of mind and hasn't been Revisited or had any further effect. The only lasting consequence has been the Turning of Peridot.[and according to some that’s been flattened to irrelevance too]

So that meant that The Cluster basically existed so that that way we would have something in order for Peridot to oppose to justify her becoming a good person. Which reminds me of how they handled Marty and Sour Cream and Yellowtail and so I'm really really uncomfortable about them trying to go “oh, we're going to be all about character don't be all about the magical Destiny b*******.” only characters remain thin and ignorant and nothing but potential fodder

Maybe I'm just in a really nasty mood[edit- looking back I was]. But I will say this; I think after this much time the show has set up its relationship with the audience and I think it's made me distrustful and doubtful of its reliability. I don't want any more promotional material. I don't want any more interviews covering for stuff not in the show. I don't want any more teases. I want an actual story executed on the screen in a satisfying manner. And honestly I think what with the relative Circle walking season 4 and the reintroduction of more complications about mysteries about Rose and more drama about Steven feeling sad and more “Steven is going to have to introduce Humanity to this alien-person” as his own life seems as divorced from Human Experience as possible.

The artifice of the show is coming out. It's much like how some can't take Game of Thrones seriously anymore. It makes sense to kill off the characters that they have killed off but there's no more emotional investment and we’re getting more and more sense that all of this is a bunch of Sensational nonsense.
