Antipsychiatry as in against psychiatry. That includes being against big pharma. Psychiatry has harmed my life much more than it has helped it. Honestly? It hasn't really helped it at all. It doesn't promote autonomy. A lot of people are forced onto treatments that don't work or make things worse. Psychiatrists neglect their patients, don't tell them the long or short term risks of the drugs they prescribed. They don't give us a choice in what we're prescribed or not prescribed either.

They'd rather us docile and sedated than have us healthy. This is especially true with antipsychotics... which, from my (light) reading, were considered pharmacological lobotomies at some point.. and that was supposed to be a good thing. But it even goes beyond meds. They pathologize and stigmatize natural human states, understandable responses to horrific situations. Problems are treated at the individual level only, there is no care for societal issues, and they not only dont care for them, they perpetuate them with bigotry and oppression.

This isn't me saying that disability wouldnt exist if society were better, it would. This isn't me saying medication can never help, it can. But psychiatry at its core values and practices, is a monster. It makes us worse. It was founded on so many gross abuses and human rights violations, and continues to commit these crimes today. It doesn't actually bring forth sustainable change, empowerment, etc. It's institutional. It just controls us... any help it gives is a happy coincidence or down to privilege.

-punk by ancient society terms. not big on ascension, very much a "don't we have it pretty fuckin good? why are we in such a rush to leave" kind of person

-stayed in the iterator project after fire's failure because in losing him she realized how human the iterators were. spent her life working to make their rights more solid and complexities more widely understood

-very close friends with fleck. looks at fleck as her son, looked at fire as her son as well

-met flowers at the start of their schooling. they quickly bonded as they got to work together and were endorsed for esteemed position together

-left flowers in part because of the trauma surrounding the situation with fire, but more because she didn't like what she was beginning to see in flowers. he invented the first model of the demolishers after fire's attack, which descent hated. they would have split up eventually even if fire had lived and they'd continued work on him together. i think their political views and morals are too different, and their personalities too headstrong for it to've been avoided forever

-was VERY happy to be selected to work with corners

-puts maybe too much energy into caring for flowers and trying to help him, when he pushes back so hard

bark is a very old man who just wants to do his work in peace. cloud is an introvert who is very calm and professional. smoke is pretentious and self-involved. they're a teacher at the school of solutions and endorsed flowers and descent for the esteemed position. west is a hot guy flowers knew in school that he had a short-lived fling with after his divorce. journey was rivers' admin before flowers, but then she went to the void so she had to be replaced.

as a submas fan who recently got into hazbin I would absolutely love to hear your au thoughts!!!!

Ok ill have to try to write out everything i've got so far!

So the original premise was that ingo and emmet got mixed up and ingo got sent to hell instead of emmet as an oopsie (emmet didnt do anything overly bad in life but heaven/hell stuff is so arbitrary they probably just made a weird decision somewhere down the line lol) but i thinkkk i have switched it to Ingo gets sent to hell because Volo successfully sacrificed him in a ritual and emmet, while dying in the same place, wasnt actually part of it so normal rules still applied to him. Ingo's soul is all messed up and corrupted because of the ritual which caused his amnesia. Emmet finds out about Ingo being sent to hell after he cant find ingo anywhere in heaven and rightfully gets upset at heaven's lack of action because he see's ingo's situation as a huge injustice. So Emmet's whole thing is basically just causing problems until he finds his way to hell and reunites with ingo.

Ingo's situation is where the fun is lol. So he wakes up after spawning in hell and is just a total odd-ball. Half because he doesnt remember ANYTHING from before he died. Maybe not even his name? Which is weird. And also because he's a total sweetheart. No one can figure out why he's even there because it's not like he's a hellborn so he must have done something to end up in hell. After a brief period of wandering around aimlessly, Lady Sneasler, who is an overlord in this au, kinda adopts him and takes him places because she thinks hes so charming and adorable. Melli is just a guy that hangs around lady sneasler even though he acts like he doesnt like her? She's the poison overlord (kinda like an aqua tofana situation for sneasler) and melli is a poison guy. So they kinda just fall into the same group. So they both become friends of Ingo. After a while of character introductions and some brief fun stuff like Sneasler getting Ingo to do all kinds of fun stuff he probably wouldnt do on his own (like the clubbing thing lmao) Ingo has his first blackout, probably triggered by some sort of memory thing, and its kinda terrifying. When he has those blackouts he shifts into his full demon form and his power goes haywire causing a lot of destruction. Its a huge shock because normally regular sinner demons dont really have much in terms of inherent power and also because Ingo cant actually use his powers while conscious so there was no sign of him being capable of that level of chaos. Anyway, after he has his little blackout his body sustains damage from exerting that kind of power and is kinda down for the count for a while afterwards. His story from there on is figuring out what is going on with him and trying to stop those blackouts before it either destroys him or a good chunk of the city, whichever comes first lmao. Sneasler is kinda just there to reign in ingo and melli she just loves a good show lol Melli is kinda where i wanna connect it more to the existing hazbin characters/storyline. Because this is lowkey more of a crossover. He accidentally becomes charlie's new pet project which no one is a fan of 😂 melli did not volunteer for this at all but his character arc is learning to make friends and care about other people after pushing people away for so long because he's a huge ball of self-hatred. He's kinda perfect for the "i can fix him" thing the hotel is all about. SO he's stuck learning to become a better person and being the narrative connection back to the core of the actual show lmao. Not sure if they ever even stay at the hotel. Maybe ingo and melli could flip flop between sneasler's place and the hotel. They dont actually have places of their own so its one or the other. In terms of intra character interactions i think its like this (this is prolly set post-s1 so no sir pentious): Charlie: thinks ingo is nice, wants to fix melli and is working with ingo to do this. Her relationship w sneasler is similar to rosie in my head. Alastor: finds Ingo somewhat threatening because Ingo can read him like a book. would otherwise find him pleasant but because he has a hard time keeping up his mysterious scary image around him he avoids him if possible. Ingo really likes him because "he reminds him of someone but he cant put a finger on it", will teleport away if melli is in the vicinity, finds sneasler charming. would gossip with her 10/10. When emmet shows up they try to kill each other which is entirely unsurprising. Everyone else in the hotel is more or less "theres something not right about that ingo guy but he's nice enough i guess", "FUCK melli get him OUT OF HERE", and "lady sneasler is chill" and when emmet shows up theyre just like "oh this explains why he likes alastor so much. Now theres TWO OF THEM." I would like to develop the other character's opinions on the situation more but this is getting. so so long. misc other character stuff: 

Lady sneasler still has sneasels, usually 3 of them. they just have tiny wings and horns but otherwise look like regular sneasels. No clue what their deal is they just exist. 

Rosie and Sneasler get along great. they are kinda similar but fill different power-niches in hell. 

Rosie finds ingo SO charming. She loves his odd vintage flair despite literally dying like. in the 2020s lol. He's very popular in cannibal town because he's a train freak and edwardians love trains. He takes the cute edwardian cannibal kiddies on train rides.

im not really sure what goes on with emmet in this au i just know he's having a shit time of it and eventually finds ingo. I havent decided if he actually falls or just leaves heaven because it sucks and no one cares enough to stop him. Also only slightly related but i actually have a voice-canon for him which is will wood which works great for this au lmao. Also emmet plays killer jazz piano and alastor is so mad about it because its actually good.

emmet and alastor dont really have all that much in common besides the smile thing but its just enough for them to beef over it. really its a similar feud as alastor and lucifer, alastor sees emmet as a threat both because of his power and the smile thing and emmet doesnt like that ingo is following alastor around like a lost puppy. emmet is def way less mysterious, he's just pissed that his brother is suffering even if ingo doesnt seem to notice his own problems.

volo doesnt really come back up in this au because he's still alive. just imagine that akari is kicking his ass in the living world or something lmao. 

i cant decide if pokemon exist in this universe. It would be funny tho to have chandelure exist in a world where souls are like whole ass people who can die for a second time. worlds nicest guy's pet lamp eats people until theyre perma-dead for breakfast.

Elesa (and probably also drayden and iris depening on your headcanons) are very sad :( i like emmet/elesa so it makes it extra hard on elesa tho. there is no solution for this.

not sure what the arceus situation is here. hazbin as far as i know doesnt have a canon god design so for all we know god could be a dumbass llama i guess. its doesnt really matter besides stylizing volo's ritual

about the ask that was talking about host-centrism and where you brought up that a lot of singlets take that and add the idea that "the host is the only real one" reminds me of how a lot of the community views the term "core." for context, in our system we do have a core. our core isnt one of our 3 hosts. we dont know if we have been plural since very early childhood or if we became plural in middle teenagehood, but either way our core feels that term is right for her. now with the term core, we have seen a bit of hate for it because people say "there is no 'original', we are all real." and of course, yes, all our headmates are real! but for us we do have a headmate that identifies with our pre-plural self. we wouldnt use the term "original" but the term core makes sense for how our system works.

i would say this is a sysmed idea but ive seen endogenics also disagree with the idea of a core. i feel like this could stem from the singlet idea you brought up of "only the host is real." i think some plurals are uncomfortable with the idea of a pre-plural self because of that. and idk i just think thats an interesting possible result of the singlet idea. and as someone who isnt in a tulpa system but still has a pre-plural self, i think the comparisons of experiences with that is interesting as well!

And yeah, I'm pretty sure that most tulpa systems, like us, probably have cores.

And I think the term core is very useful since, as you touch on, a host and core aren't the same thing. You can have someone who was there from the beginning and is the core, but isn't a host anymore.

I'm honestly not sure where the idea that there isn't a core comes from. I see a lot of people saying it. But I've never seen a solid source.

Of course, some systems don't have cores, don't know who the core is, or have splintered cores where multiple headmates could claim to be the core. That's completely valid! Some will have cores and some won't. But it does feel that systems with cores are often given the shaft in this community sometimes.

And I think you hit the nail on the head with that interpretation...

Although... I might add that maybe systems are a bit responsible for that too.

Many systems experience denial. And I could see some hosts latching onto the idea that they're the only "real" one, leading to a ton of internal conflict.

So I'd agree that, yeah, this is mostly an issue because of ableist singlets. But I also think it might be blowback from systems themselves using the concept of a core to justify self-denial. (And possible even trauma from that.)

Oh anon you are IN for a WILD RIDE here. I will mostly focus on their relationship with each other in order to highlight their key character traits.

I will start by mentioning that Convex’s relationship is full of nuance and is constantly evolving just like the characters themselves.

Some key elements to remember about the characters in order to understand their relationship is that Scar is characterized by a morbid need for attention and would do quite literally anything for the spotlight, while Cub is extremely prone to boredom and has to keep himself entertained in progressively more dangerous mind games and activities.

They both play 4D chess with each other. At the end of act I Scar’s crush for Cub completely escalates in a morbid attachment and downright obsession that will only get worse when Cub convinces Scar he is the only person he has left now.

Remember that Scar has just seen his face, the epitome of his beauty (which equals attention), tarnished forever, he has been humiliated by his defeat. Sure he could get plastic surgery to fix SOME of the damage, but it wouldnt be the same. His ego has been wounded too.

So Cub is there. He is the only person Scar talks to while he recovers and he makes sure to be the only “landmark” that Scar has left. So of course Scar’s obsession with Cub only gets stronger, but Scar knows this. He is aware that Cub is playing him but the thing is. He doesnt care AT ALL.

Cub is willing to give him a chance to be reborn, to forget about his failures and for once in his life take the stage for himself and do as his heart desires. He is enabling him, and that’s all that matters to Scar.

Cub is. Easily bored. He dropped out of med school after refusing to take the hippocratic oath and started a series of incredibly dubious medical practices that he managed to keep for himself, only to satisfy his own curiosity.

At some point he got bored so he decided to bring his attention to the human mind. That’s where Scar comes in. In the story Cub and Scar meet by chance in the middle of the night, they then exchange a few words about the clear luminous night sky above them.

That’s it. That’s all that happened… if it wasn’t for the fact that Cub had visible blood stains on his clothes and Scar didn’t even bat an eye. That intrigues Cub, so when Scar advertises that he’s looking for a roommate, Cub immediately takes his chance. Scar becomes his long term “project” and everything culminates to the end of the first act where Cub offers Scar the chance to work by his side. Perfect, right?

But their relationship is… extremely complicated to say the least. Cub doesn’t do “love”. He doesn’t feel that kind of attraction. Scar’s feelings aren’t love either, they’re more akin to obsession. Scar is extremely unpredictable and that drives Cub insane, but he has to admit he enjoys a challenge and Scar himself doesn’t mind at all how scarily controlling Cub is. He likes the attention :)

Cub promises Scar he will kill Grian when the time is right. You can imagine how ecstatic Scar is, he wants to destroy everything related to his “old life” in order to truly enjoy his new and better life.

When Grian takes Cub’s eye out at the end of the second act Cub’s priorities change. Now he wants to be the one to kill Grian for the sole reason she dared to actually impair him. LOL. Notice the parallels?

Things get worse when they get locked up in prison. Scar is always on edge and is extremely violent. He gets thrown into solitary confinement a couple of times. This is the point in the story where Scar realizes just how empty he is and is just a husk of his old self. He is TERRIFIED of being left alone with his thoughts.

Obsession can imply going through stages of deep hatred for the object of said obsession. So Scar does snap at Cub in this incredibly pressuring environment and it only gets worse when he learns Cub has no intention of letting him kill Grian. Cub doesn’t budge. Scar had the illusion of being finally free with Cub but it was just that. An illusion.

Scar’s mood swings from manic states to depressive episodes so he is extremely delicate to handle with, but Cub manages to keep him loyal to him, LOL! Because at the end of the day they truly only have each other. It’s too late to go back now.

Sometimes Scar scares Cub and they both know. Scar acts like he doesn’t know Cub’s tricks until he does. Their relationship is a constant push and pull, it’s a match made in hell and I wouldn’t have it any other way. <3

Seeing people talk about how the collar might not truly control James/Anharion and I do find the line of 'I remember everything' so interesting

because what does he remember. What does he know that Will doesn't recall - especially when we have seen what Sarcean's fall looks like. Working for the Sun King in the shadows, powerful and disliked then already when he was 'good'. We don't know what he did, or what he didn't do, for the Sun King to bare down against him. We don't know if it was reasonable or justified.

Because Will is good. To his core, Will is good - manipulative and traumatized but he is a good person. And maybe you can put it down to a nature v nurture thing but Elanor clearly wasn't the kindest of mothers.

So if James remembers everything and wants to conquer with Will - which Will did not order; the Collar is either giving him that need or whatever he remembers is driving him to it. Or, I suppose, all of this was planned by Sarcean long ago when he had Anharion killed and he's following a very old order. But if the collar doesnt control him, if he still chooses to side with Will on his terms..

But i dont know. It certainly wouldnt surprise me if the twist was 'oops the protag is actually the evil king, oh oops again the evil king wasnt actually the bad one' because its Pacat and this entire book series is so heavy handed in 'dark' and 'light' and Pacat isn't the type of writer to simply let darkness be evil in every form, and lightness be always good and perfect.

Idea for a little Cucuhalo fic/au. Ok hear me out:

Roommates/Office au

So, I haven't fully fleshed out the details yet, but Cucurucho as a rich boss that owns some kind of company and Bad is an employee that just moved from somewhere and started working in his company not too long ago. They try to get along... well enough in the office, albeit there's some tension and passive aggression between them.

Their co-workers love to gossip about them because it looks like there's something going on between the two, but it's all speculation for them. What they don't know is Bad and Cucurucho are actually secretly roommates, and they "hate" each other even more outside of the office.

Cucurucho has a cat that Bad wasn't initially fond of named Emotional Support (they're actually raising that cat like it's their baby lols) because Bad is more a dog person, but Cucurucho insisted on getting a cat as a pet. That's only one of their roommate quarrels. Most of the time they are extremely passive aggressive, and do things like, idk, not washing the other person's dishes lmao.

Despite how much they claim to hate each other, neither want to leave because "it's easier to share rent" or "no one would take care of Emotional Support when the other person is busy", some kind of excuse like that. But really, it's because they do enjoy having each other around, and sometimes, they have nice dinners and movie nights together. Then they fall asleep on their couch and wake up entangled, but neither wants to admit they were literally cuddling the night before. They are so attached to each other, but no one wants to say it out loud.

Basically this au is me wanting Cucuhalo office and roommate drama with a dash of sexual tension and long-term denial, romantic comedy sitcom style.

I love them living together and making up excuses to do so....

"Its expensive to live alone" "Emotional support is already so attached to him itd be mean to take her away from him" "We bought the furniture in a way that would make it weird for us to move out" (bad bought both the beds, or the one bed hayoooo, cucurucho bought like 20% of the spices and condiments, they dont feel like splitting up the furniture is what im getting at) "Theres no available housing in any areas id want to live in" etc. etc. any excuse to stay together even though to everyone else it seems like theyre at eachothers throats all the time!!

I think the way the workers would find out is a couple of them getting invited over. Like after a night out, one of them cant find a ride home so bad (resident guy who doesnt drink) offers to let them sleep on his couch for the night, and the next morning they wake up to arguing. They sit up on the couch and over the back of it who should they see in the kitchen together but CUCURUCHO and BADBOYHALO who are arguing because bad didnt ask before inviting said coworker over!! They kiss and make up (either metaphorically or literally) and cucurucho lets it go for now and sneaks off back to his (possibly their) room so he isnt caught and has bad send the coworker out as soon as they wake up. The coworker doesnt say anything about seeing cucurucho right then... but later on cucurucho and bad hear a lot of whispering that gets suddenly quiet when they walk by, and then it continues when they walk past.... more so than usual!!! And they dont think too much of it, but then someone comes up to bad's desk one day or approaches him in the hallway or by the water cooler and goes "so.. you and cucurucho, huh??"

(and then they realize bad's not the one to approach because hes very aloof and wouldnt pick up on the implications that the coworker would be dropping.. but theyre too afraid to go ask cucurucho about it for fear of getting chainsaw'd LMAO)

I can’t see Lupin ever settling down for long enough to ever actively parent a kid. Of course, his legacy is important to him, as it has been to his father and grandfather, but he’s never been one to do things by-the-book.

Goemon, I thjnk, would be more inclined to live a slower, easier life. He knows he can’t pretend to be young forever, even if that doesn’t necessarily mean having kids.

Lupin is great with kids from a merely entertainment-centric standpoint. He’s animated and wacky and constantly in-motion; and most kids love that! His natural charm makes him a wonderful candidate for children’s birthday parties, but not so much for babysitting. He is, of course, level-headed enough to safeguard a child. He cannot, however, be trusted not to let them get away with murder.

In fact, he… actually actively encourages bad behaviour. In his experience, breaking rules is great, and it’s exactly what he did as a kid. And who wouldn’t want to turn out like him?

On second thought, maybe don’t leave your kids around him at all. Just to be safe.

When it comes to kids of his own, Lupin is pretty indifferent. He loves the idea of having someone to carry his family name into the future, but he knows he could never be a reliable father figure. He recognises first-hand how messed up it is when your dad is some daredevil big-name thief, and he knows that he couldn’t possibly give up his lifestyle for long enough to break that cycle.

Over time, maybe he starts to recognise that there’s potential for an adopted heir of some kind further down the line? I can see him taking an older kid under his wing and teaching them the tricks of the trade, and I think that would be a much better fit for him and his nature and the level of responsibility he can reliably be trusted with. We know that he’s more than comfortable sharing his life with his found family, and I think having an heir who isn’t necessarily a blood descendent wouldn’t be any kind of issue for him.

The Lupin name itself is important to him, however, and he’d make a huge deal of passing it down to someone else. You don’t get to wear the Lupin name and not live up to the legend. He’ll make it his mission to haunt you otherwise.

In short: they’ll have to be one badass kid.

Goemon isn’t planning on settling down any time soon, either. Though he toys with the idea, he knows that he isn’t satisfied with his own abilities yet. Training is rigorous and the hours he spends away are long. He can’t in good conscience have a child when he’s so busy bettering himself.

With that said, he is well aware of the slow passage of time. He recognises that they’re all going to get old one day, and when he can no longer work, he will need other things to keep him busy and fulfilled. While he has no active interest in children, he doesn’t totally write off the idea. It’s just… there, in the back of his mind. A situational ‘maybe’, if you will.

After all, Goemon… struggles, shall we say, with children. He finds it a little grating to constantly have to explain himself and the world around him, especially in simple terms. While he’s kind and generous in his own way, it’s clear that the distance he keeps socially might not always gel with raising a kid; especially when it comes to teaching societal norms and expectations.

To Goemon, in opposition to Lupin, his name is less about passing it on and much more about making sure that he himself does it justice. He is going to be the best he can be, because that’s what his name implies. The weight of his family’s history is on his shoulders: THAT is what’s important to him.

With that said, I think out of the two of them, Goemon is most likely to have children of his own. While Lupin may have a protégée, Goemon would likely take a much more active role in parenting a potential child. I think he’d secretly enjoy all of the baby babbles and firsts he’d get to experience. As long as he had a helping hand, so he could slip away for a break every now and then.

The secret third answer to this prompt is Zenigata, by the way. Again, not the most… devoted or present father, that’s for sure, but certainly the best father figure out of the whole gang. Probably the most likely to have children, too, considering he’s been there, done that, left to get the milk.

Also definitely the most intent on passing down his name. If he wasn’t insanely obsessed with Lupin, I reckon he’d be living a stereotypical nuclear family lifestyle. Definitely deep in the closet, but you know what? At least he’s great with kids.

A child in Ithersts mentions a school. While we don't see it in game, imma take that kids word for it. So fran goes to that school! As well as this I think itward home schools Fran, or at least teaches her some stuff that likely wouldn't be covered in the school!

Wanting your own house forever is valid, but it makes me curious about your opinion of marrying someone who ALSO doesn't want anyone in their house and would like to live separately. I don't see why giving up your space has to be a requirement for everybody who gets married. (Obviously its fine to still not want that either lol. Not wanting marriage for any reason is valid!)

but no yeah i actually totally agree with you, theres no reason marriage has to look like how society tells us to. you know, a man and a woman in the suburbs with a white picket fence and 2.5 kids and a dog. i think that you can absolutely have any sort of arrangement you want with your partner

for a long time while i was growing up my parents were long distance, and that was fine and normal to me. i understand now that this wasnt really a choice (with the financial crisis in greece, my dad had to move to america to find work, and we all eventually moved once enough money was saved up etc) but like, it didnt make them any less married in my eyes. and i think that you can absolutely be in different houses even by choice and still be married if thats the kind of relationship youre both happy and secure with. who cares, right?

similarly my grandparents have different bedrooms but never had marital issues. my grandma just likes having her own space during the day, and she says theyd usually just pick one of the rooms to sleep in overnight. thats a mindset i can totally get behind and honestly that would also totally be the ideal setup for me, if i were to ever hypothetically get married.

i joked in the post's tags that one of my most "23 year old opinions" is not wanting to get married and start a family, and a lot of that is just because i dislike the idea of those obligations. but i also think a lot of that is because im young enough that i dont really see it as something i want- i still wanna be single and have fun because thats the kind of asshole i am (JOKE!). like, commitment to something that long term is just not in my field of vision yet. i do genuinely not want kids though but thats a different story. a spouse is something id want only if we really clicked i guess. but isnt that the case for everyone?

i always have a million ideas in mind for why aizawa might have gotten kidnapped, my brain churns them out by the dozens.

but i feel like in this instance they probably got him while he was walking home from work. i feel like even in the rooftop agency au the guys all have second jobs - aizawa's being teaching, mic at the radio and shirakumo doing extra rescue work on the side, and later mic and shirakumo have three jobs including teaching and aizawa is like no I'm going to bed. so they'd have somewhat different schedules and i think there could be a moment when aizawa is out and about alone

i also feel like in an au where afo doesn't have a perfected nomu yet and is still interested in erasure there could be a sort of quiet "rumor" that getting erasure could get you a lot of money or power. it couldn't be too official or it would likely be picked up by underground heroes, so it wouldn't be something they necessarily deal with all the time but there could be an unfortunate set of circumstances where aizawa happens to be alone in a situation that's not ideal for him - somewhere enclosed like a bank or store with scared kids where he has to take the fight head on, in full view, and reveal his quirk early, and split his focus to keep others safe, AND he happens to be up against someone physically strong outside their quirk who has heard of this rumor

and in that case if he gets overpowered and taken away, i think he'd first be annoyed he slipped up enough to be overpowered, then relieved the situation is being taken away from civilians, and then he'd be doing the math on how long it will take the others to notice he isn't at home, figure out where he was last and then track him down

i think it wouldnt be until a few hours into being bound and blindfolded that he'd start to notice his mind wandering to wishing he was at home with the cats and how yamada might be handling this, and then he immediately shakes it away. he'd probably attempt to cat nap to stay somewhat coherent but it's difficult even for him with injuries from the fight and being tied up. and though i think he would compartmentalize the shit out of the thought until he's safe, he would NOT enjoy being blindfolded long term, would be constantly jumping at the smallest noises. same with hoping for rescue, he's just very severe with himself like that's not an actionable thought, they either find me or they don't and it should have no influence over my actions.

and yes along the same line of thought he'd absolutely be trying to escape his bindings the whole time. possibly even does but i drew him with an injured foot so maybe he's caught hobbling and crawling out and tied up even tighter. I feel like he'd be so sleep deprived at that point he keeps having to shake himself awake - knows he needs sleep but doesn't want to sleep too deeply to be able to fight back at a moment's notice

also i feel like when he does get rescued he achieves a near perfect zen state upon hearing hizashi's voice bc he's just like any thought i may have in this moment is too dangerous and irrational. all rejected. completely clears his entire brain to avoid having Irresponsible Feelings. maybe that's the expression there, the absolute panicked nothing going on in that man's skull.

You and Daryl had never exactly seen eye to eye. Blind, unshaken optimism wasnt something that went along with a harsh mixture of cynicism and logic; a world of colour versus someone who sees the world in black and white. Or at least, that’s how Daryl likes to say he sees the world. You always knew there was something in him that understood why you were the way that you were, he just didnt want to admit it.

You were always the one to lift everyone’s spirits, no matter what. You could always be relied on for that, and everyone in the group adored you for it. A smile on your face, a spring in your step, and you had the power to push the storm clouds away.

There were a few times that you crossed paths with Daryl, most of them small talk, but there was one incident in particular that stood out to the both of you in terms of clashing personalities. It was just after Shane broke into the barn and the group found out where Sophia had really been. The group was broken after that, naturally, and you did what you could. Optimism wouldnt do much for Carol, you werent stupid, but you also werent just a cheerleader to the people you loved. You were a source of comfort, and you held Carol as she cried, which was the most you could do. Very few people in the group had the strength to look Carol in the eye, feeling as though they’d let her down, but you stayed with her as much as you could, without being overbearing of course. During one particular moment when you werent helping Carol, you decided to go and check on Daryl, the next worst affected in the list of broken hearts. You knew blind optimism wasnt going to work on him either, not after something so awful, but you wanted to do what you could. Much to your surprise, Daryl barely let you get a word out before he snapped at you.

“You think sprinklin’ some of your fairy dust over shit will stop it bein’ shit!?! You aint helpin’ me, I dont need no help, ‘specially not from someone who dont see what the world really is! That fuckin’ smile o’ yours wont last out here!” He was making big gestures with his hands, raising his voice, pacing back and forth. While you stood, calm and collected with your arms crossed.

“Feel better?” You asked him, your voice so gentle it only pissed him off more.

“‘Course not!” Daryl retorted, throwing his arms in the air again

“And that right there is the difference a cynical attitude makes.”

You walked off without explaining what you meant, but Daryl knew. Your emotional outbursts brought so much joy because of how optimistic you were, you helped lift everyone up, including yourself, and you brought everyone together. While his outbursts just made him angrier, and pushed people away.

After that, understandably you and Daryl didnt talk for a while. The next time you interacted was after the farm fell, but even then, the two of you didnt talk.

When the group spent a night outside after the farm was overrun, you taught Carl a dance, just for fun. He was shivering from the cold, everyone was weighted down with the grief of the home they’d lost. So you jumped to your feet and taught Carl the cha-cha slide. It warmed him up and made everyone smile, it was the perfect idea. Beth got up and joined in, then Maggie dragged Glenn up with her, and soon enough everyone was joining in. The cha cha slide didnt last long, soon enough everyone was free-styling, dancing to no music.

The only one left not dancing, was Daryl Dixon. Your dance halted as you made eye contact with him, and when a mischievous smirk took over your face, a worried expression overtook his. Lifting your hands in the air, you spun an imaginary lasso that you threw around him, and you started pulling him to the also imaginary dance floor. You didnt know if it would work, honestly, you had no way of knowing if most of the things you did would work. Majority of the time, your optimism was needed very suddenly, there wasnt time to carefully consider a plan, you just went with what felt right. And when Daryl rolled his eyes, swung his crossbow on his back and started jumping forward in time with you pulling the invisible lasso you had wrapped around him, you knew that once again, you had done what was right.

You werent mad at him for not making the effort to apologise or fix things with you, the two of you werent exactly friends, but that night formed a silent truce.

He saw his heartbroken group smiling and laughing, enjoying themselves in the wake of a disaster that had ended lives and taken away their home. The fact they were able to forget about that, even for just a few minutes, was all thanks to you.

He didnt speak to you, he was still in the midst of processing the gift you had, but after that, you bet he was in absolute awe of you. You were an angel to him, a ray of sunshine in the endlessly stormy world.

When the group found the prison, their optimism almost matched yours. Sitting around the fire with Beth and Maggie singing, you held up a hand.

“Hold on, if there’s actual music going on, you all know what has to happen. C’mon Carl, show me what you learnt!”

So you and Carl started dancing again, gradually bringing everyone else up to dance with you.

Carol and Daryl approached from his place taking watch, and the way everyone mirrored the smile on your face showed him just how precious you really were to this group, to every single person, including him.

As Lori got up to go and talk to Rick, you followed Daryl back to his watch post.

“Hey, Dixon, wait up!” You called.

“Why you gotta be so loud for?” His voice was sharper than he intended it to be, he wasnt comfortable with how kind he wanted to be to you.

“Part of my charm, sweet cheeks.” You nudged his shoulder.

Daryl scoffed. “Whaddaya want?”

You smiled up at him. “I wanted to get an update on the last conversation we had. Still think a smile like mine wont last in a world like this?” As if to prove your point, your smile widened, practically beaming up at him.

“Naw.” He replied in his usual gruff tone, but you knew him well, despite not talking to him much, you had overheard countless of conversations among the group. Meaning the nervousness that was in his voice was loud and clear to you.

“Ahh, interesting, could you elaborate on that?” You took your eyes away from him, choosing to look up at the stars in the sky to help him feel less awkward.

“Think this world needs a smile like yours, t’ keep everyone goin’. Could you do sum’ for me?” His question was rushed, which you know was a deliberate effort to avoid you commenting on what he’d said before it.

“Of course, what’s up?” You questioned, turning to look back at him to see his gaze fixed on nothing in particular, directly in front of him.

“Keep smilin’, ‘cause I don’ like admittin’ it, but sometimes I need it, too.”

Somehow, his words sent the two of you into even deeper worldwide silence, it was comfortable, but it tugged at your heart. It was so quiet, you could hear Daryl’s shaky breaths, and then in the corner of your eye you caught sight of his shaking hand. Without thinking, you took ahold of it. Well, as much as you could, your hand being much smaller than his. You expected him to pull away, but instead he turned his palm up and intertwined his fingers with yours.

“Likewise.” You told him, your voice being the only sound better than silence, Daryl thought.

“Whaddaya mean?” He asked, mostly wanting to hear you talk to him more, but also out of curiosity.

“A smile as rare as yours, one that doesnt need to be big and bold for the world to see, a quiet and reserved one. It’s the greatest gift you could give a girl, Daryl.” You smiled again, a softer smile, as you rested your head on his shoulder, the two of you staring at the same patch of nothing straight ahead.

“I’ll let cheesy shit like that slide on one condition.” Daryl replied, and you couldnt help but laugh.

“Name it.”

Daryl had that small smile playing on his face, proud of himself for making you laugh at something that he didnt think you’d find that funny.

“Im the one who’ll be callin’ you sweetcheeks from now on.” He told you, and you laughed even harder, holding his arm as well as his hand, snuggling into him in the most casual, unaddressed way.
