One of the most monumental sites in Rio de Janeiro is that of the "Selaron Steps," famously known as :

🇧🇷 𝐄𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚 𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐫ó𝐧

An intricate, public work of art that is an homage to the Brazilian people, it possibly one of the most sought after tourist hotspots in Rio.

𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞 𝐦𝐞 𝐢𝐟 𝐈 𝐭𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮, 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐩𝐬 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐚 𝐁𝐫𝐚𝐳𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧?

In fact, a Chilean artist is the brainchild behind this 1990(s) reconstruction. What started out as a project to renovate some dilapidated steps, soon turned into one of the greatest works of art in Rio de Janeiro.

The artist, whose last name was Selarón, initially started incorporating tiles that replicated the colors and patterns of the Brazilian flag. An avid traveller, he soon started collecting tiles from all over the world (namely 60 countries) to add to his already vibrant mosaic staircase project.

He was so passionate about Brazil, that some of tiles on the walls surrounding the steps say :

‘𝐁𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐥 𝐄𝐮 𝐓𝐞 𝐀𝐦𝐨 𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐫ó𝐧’ = ‘Brazil I love you – Selarón

His gift of artistry to the Brazilian people has not only transformed the community, it is now a huge part of Brazilian history.

🗽Visiting the Statue of Liberty🇺🇸 If you are planning a visit to the Statue of Liberty and find yourself confused after some initial research…don’t worry..everyone is ! 😅😅
 After my first visit I can assure you that its actually quite simple! I over think it at the time of my visit and was worried about the potential of a line…missing the ferry…going through security etc.. Turns out it was easy breezy…perhaps thats why I couldn’t find detailed visitor information online…because you really didn’t need it! Some pre-planning is still required: ✔️You’ve got to make sure you are pre-booking the ticket from the official and authorised concessioner! ✔️Pedestal Reserve includes General Admission and only $0.30 more. ✔️Crown access is currently closed. ✔️Your ticketed reserved time for the Pedestal is for entry to the Pedestal area at the foot of the statue and NOT for ferry. ✔️Ferry runs continuously between the ports and islands. Wait for Ferry varies depending on the crowd. The actual ferry ride is about 10-15 minutes ✔️Audio Tours are included with your admission. You can pick up the audio guide in a booth to your right after exiting the boat on the island. ✔️Backpacks and large bags/purses are not allowed in the Pedestal area so either bring a small purse or be ready with change to put your belongings in a locker! ✅Tips: The Cafe Plaza is ALWAYS busy! There are a couple of food stands past the Flag post Plaza with better than average food! There are also seating areas where you can enjoy the food - and without the crowd! ✅You have the option to wait for a tiny elevator to the top of the pedestal…or take the stairs to the top! It’s less than 200 steps so completely manageable …keep in mind you do have to walk down so that would be another 200 steps !! Bab Boujloud - The Blue Gate 📍 So what is so fascinating about this gate? It is considered the entryway to the Fez medina. Built in 1913, one side faces the outskirts of the old city of Fez, while the other lands you in the middle of the busy medina. The greatest feature of this wall is in its color. If you are entering the gate from the old city, the wall appears cobalt blue, a color depicting the vibrant city of Fez. However, on the other side, the wall is green, symbolizing the color of Islam ☪️. ……………………….. I absolutely love how much intricate detail is put into some of the architecture in Morocco.
