Er war Opener für Grössen wie Roy Buchanan, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Mentor Lonnie Mack, Joe Walsh von den Eagles und teilte sich Bühnen mit Peter Green, Sting, ZZ Top und Bo Diddley. BIO:

Mack is the youngest of three children, with 2 older brothers. Despite being the only girl, she was always able to hold her own, fighting right alongside her brothers, even giving them a run for their money when they were kids.

In school she excelled and loved to learn, her favorite subjects being History and English. She wasn't at the very top of her class but she always earned A's and B's.

She was a social butterfly in high school, not fitting into a single clique. Rather, she was friends with everyone, from the loners to the jocks and cheerleaders. Though she has a smart mouth and a loud one at that; it got her into trouble on more than one occasion.

After high school she did not know what she had wanted to do for a career so she went to college undecided, at first going for the social life. After an incident at a party, she saw how the firefighters and first responders helped save lives. So she then decided what she wanted to do.

Her parents were supportive of her decision, commending her for the path in life she chose. She wasn't sure if she'd be a firefighter or other first responder, but her school offered fire science so she took some classes and enjoyed them.

After graduating with her degree, she moved back home and decided to join the fire academy in town back home in Kismet Harbor. She never knew if she would end up back home or live elsewhere but her family drew her back.

Dating here and there, she was more focused on her career than to find love. However, when she was 23 and fresh into the academy, that would all change.

During a call one after while she was still a candidate, she was arguing with a nurse in the hospital and one of the other nurses came over to see what was going on and if he could help. That nurse was named Ethan Hoffmann. At first she didn't think anything of it, though she thought he was quite attractive. That was the beginning of the rest of her life.

After becoming friends and hanging out after their shifts, she was head over heels (before they had even officially started dating). After two years, they were married and she was absolutely estatic to have found the love of her life.

Around a year later, they welcome twins, a boy and a girl, Darren and Quinn, as well as adopting a golden retriever puppy. By the time the twins were four, they welcomed little Ashton, the final piece to the Hoffmann family puzzle.

Juggling a family and a career hasn't been easy, but with an amazing partner in life with her husband, Mack couldn't have asked for a better life.

Her and her brothers, along with their parents are a very tight knit group. Since her parents still live in town, she (along with her own family) try to see them as much as they can. They even try to get together with her niece and nephews, Alli, Marcel and Chase since they all live in Kismet Harbor as well.

I swear, I read the little asides in the David R George III novels about DS9 about the Cardassian architecture (at least, before he blew up the station... Yes, even with the novels getting their continuity reset, I’m still pissy about that)... I feel like he didn’t LIKE the station. Like he includes a reference in Ascendance to Kira, some nine years into her tour of duty on DS9, thinking about how she still occasionally trips over the raised divides in the doors, which... No? That’s never been shown or said to be a thing? Not to mention how much the novel Raise the Dawn seems to emphasize the architecture as oppressive, which... Okay, yeah, when the Occupation was in full swing, I can see it, but I don’t get that feel when I binge on episodes of DS9 - if anything, the station has WAY more character than the neutral industrial grey of Starfleet designs. Plus there’s the downright bizarre reference where a character who’d worked on the station for seven years, all of them AFTER the end of DS9 the show, has to correct himself about how it’s THE CAPTAIN’S office, not THE PREFECT’S office. Like... The guy was never ON the station when it was “the prefect’s office,” why the hell is that happening but to emphasize the “evil Cardassian design”?

And when I combine that with the feeling I’ve had before and spoke about, and more than once, about how I don’t even feel like he particularly CARED for much of the cast who’d been established prior to his taking over the the line... It makes me wonder why HE got tapped for the job.

Like, he jettisoned a number of the side characters from the initial run - Treir, Vedek Yevir, Gul Macet, and freaking KAI OPAKA were all major characters, roughly on the level of Rom or General Martok, in the novels before he took over, but Yevir’s gone into the ether, Treir’s functionally written out in a blink and you’ll miss it reference to her running Quark’s franchise on Bajor, there’s A reference to Gul Macet’s ship in one book before it’s gone, and, most egregious, despite her last appearance setting up her importance in the coming Ascendants crisis, Opaka’s just not even MENTIONED.

Then there’s a character like Counselor Matthias, who’d gotten a pretty heavy increasing presence in the novels prior to his taking over the line, reduced to just being referred to, instead of appearing. Then there’s tanking the character of Cenn Desca, the character who above who thinks of it as the prefect’s office, which, again, makes no sense, and ultimately, given the progression of his arc, I feel like he got turned into... the first word that comes to mind is “zealot,” but that doesn’t quite feel right. Like, the character was just starting out when the line went under his pen, sure, but... There’s this OFF flavor to him for me, that really settles in during the arc where he gets written out, like DRG was more concerned with having the plot he’d set into motion have a practical effect than having it be part of the character’s arc.

And Prynn Tenmei... He really only seems to care about her in relation to her father. Like, I picked this up during his Mission Gamma novel - that spent SO much time exploring how Vaughn felt about the estrangement between Vaughn and Prynn, yet showing her side of it felt like an afterthought, included near the end of that plotline. And then, in the time since he’d been the sole writer of the ongoing story, she spent her time at Vaughn’s bedside as he lingered in a coma, and then just kinda fades into the background once he dies. Like it’s telling that the most use Prynn got in the “new, Starfleet DS9″ books was in David Mack’s novel about Bashir torpedoing his Starfleet career to cure the Andorian reproductive crisis.

And, now that I’ve beaten around the bush, with the caveat that I’ve ranted about how he handled Sisko in the above linked posts and don’t want to go into that again... his handling of Kira and Ro...

Like, I’m in agreement with Nana Visitor that “Vedek Kira” is NOT right for this character, but what gets me is that, once the business with Bajor’s moon of Endalla being revealed as a “falsework,” a construct, that somehow proves that the Prophets ARE just aliens and not gods, Ro, a character who’d been pretty well established as an atheist, starts questioning matters of faith, which... It starts to feel like he’s trying to turn Ro INTO Kira, and... It starts feeling like “okay, so what was THE POINT of moving this character into this role if you’re just turning her into a copy of this other character?”

It doesn’t help that he writes Ascendance with bits from Kira’s point of view that frame her as having been uncomfortable with her position for some time, but... That WASN’T anything we saw. It’s being told, rather than shown. And, in the telling, he’s trying to tell us that this is some evolution of her character arc, when this is the first appearance.

All this to, in my typically long-winded fashion, ask... WHY did he get the majority of the DS9 novels when those books timeline moved to the post-Star Trek Destiny era, because... I DON’T feel like he has great love for all the things that made DS9 what it was.

Like, for all that I’m going to miss from the Novel Verse as it was, beginning with the Avatar duology, I’m GLAD to see his take on DS9 be undone.

Radio Presenter Chris Evans launches massive showbiz auction to raise money for Ukraine

This morning Chris Evans launched a mega online auction of classic showbiz items on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show with Sky on Virgin Radio UK, to raise vital money for Ukraine.

The auction is hosted by online auction company Bid-In free of charge and will be live until Friday March 25, with all proceeds going towards the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC).

Chris told Virgin Radio UK listeners: “The Frothy Coffee Man has done the best job ever with this. Basically everyone we contacted to get involved has said yes.

“If we raise a tenner it’s a tenner they don’t currently have – but let’s hope it’s a bit more than that. We are not attached to any kind of optimistic outcome, we are just going to do it and send the cheque where it needs to go as soon as possible when the money comes in.”

The star-studded lots available for bids include:

Owning all the rights to an unpublished song by Boy George which he wrote about Ukraine after performing in the country.
