Chapter 16 “I’ll Follow the Light in You”
“There wasn’t much recreation time on Kamino,” Rex goes on. “But when two hundred thousand cadets with amped up hormones for muscle and body growth get bored, fights break out. The Long-Necks frowned on their merchandise damaging themselves so they gave permission for off-duty cadets to spar whenever they needed. That turned into competitions to see who was the strongest, the fastest, the best shot.”
Rex chuckles, watching a brother turn the tables on another in the ring and double flip them until he's on top. His gaze slides to Cody, who is surrounded by several brothers, watching and cheering.
“We’re nothing if not competitive,” he snorts.

We Want That one
This is a Satine/Cody/Obi Wan of a flavor that I have not seen before and hope to see more of. It takes a bit there but I think it will be worth the wait.
At the end of the mission to Mandalore, Obi Wan decides to stay with Satine and leave the Jedi Order. Now it is important to note this is done with Qui Gon’s full and loving support.  In this one Qui Gon is not a raging asshole with many issues and trauma (Melida/Daan happened and after it did both Qui Gon and Obi Wan were required to go to therapy-both separately and together- before they were allowed to go on mission together again). Also it is important to note that in this one ‘Will of the Force’ is not an excuse Qui gon uses to do whatever the hell he wants. The Force does actually have OPINIONS that it will share with specific Jedi (There is no tie to power, abilities, position, or previous messages for who will get a specific message. There is a tie, though not complete because the Force has other measures that mortals cannot comprehend, between who is making the decision the Force has an opinion on and which Jedi gets the message).  The Force did let both Obi Wans and Qui Gon know that it fully supported Obi Wan leaving the Jedi to be with Satine.
So Obi Wan returns to the temple to formally leave the Order, get comm codes for people he wants to stay in touch with, and his remaining things from his room.  He is allowed to keep his lightsaber and encouraged to keep his login to the Temple Archives so he could keep learning.  Six months after he returns to Mandalore, he and Satine marry with his Jedi friends and family in attendance. A year after that their son Korkie is born. He and Satine take up the mantle of Duke and Duchess and balance each other well.  Though Satine remains a pacifist, she does not begrudge her husband not being one and the addition of Obi Wan lessens the power of some of her more odious advisers. At some point within the first few years Death Watch attacks and through a series of strange and unfortunate (for Death Watch) both Satine and Obi Wan simultaneously defeat Pre Vizsla and win the Darksaber. They both take on the title of Mandalore jointly and unite the clans. The stabilization of Mandalore goes largely unnoticed by the republic (Including Sidiuous and Plagieus, they both just kind of assumed that everything was going as planned)
Now we come to the Naboo mission, a few years down the line. There is little change to the start, save for the places where we are missing Obi Wan. Qui Gon still ends up, with Padme, on Tatooine and helps free Anakin. The High Council is still leery of Anakin and accepting him. Qui Gon is still adamant that this child must be trained. Padme is still tricked into calling for a vote of no confidence. There does come a change when Qui Gon meets up with Padme again as they conspire to return to Naboo. Qui Gon gets an idea and puts in a call to someone he is sure Padme should talk to immediately. When the call connects, greet the pair on the other end as Duke and Duchess Mand’alor.  The man, Obi Wan, sighs deeply and turns to Padme, and in the driest tone she had ever heard goes, ‘I apologize for Qui Gon. He thinks he’s funny and no one has ever been able to disabuse him of that notion. We can be either called Mand’alor, or duke/duchess, you do not need to call us both’.
Qui Gon explains what is going on with Naboo and Satine immediately goes to Padme, ‘Oh, you poor thing, we will get you some humanitarian aid immediately, right dear?’  to which Obi Wan agrees.
Something about the way Qui Gon is now looking amused and mischievous and the way that Satine had said that left Padme, for all that she was a bit on the naive side when it came to galaxy politics (As evidenced by the fact that she did not realize slavery did exist until she faced it directly and that she did really believe that doing what was right drove the Galactic senate), with the belief that there was something more going.
They leave Coruscant and are met, just before reaching Naboo’s system, by a ship full of Mandalorians led by Obi Wan.  He apologizes that Satine could not be there as well, but they tried not to be off planet at the same time, just in case, and Obi Wan was better for this.
Also as soon as Obi Wan saw Anakin, he felt the immediate and nearly irresistible urge to adopt him (Both the Manda AND the Force had opinions here), only the knowledge that he did not know whose child it was and the fact that Satine would kill him for adopting without her stopped him.  Obi Wan did take a moment to ask Qui Gon why there was a small child going into a warzone.
Eventually they got down to business. Obi Wan explained that, since Mandalore was not part of the Republic, they could not send an army to help with the Trade Federation’s illegal block (particularly since, officially, no one knew about it).  However, if their old friend Qui Gon (Qui Gon good naturedly protested the ‘Old’. In the same dry tone as earlier, Obi Wan said that they all knew that Qui Gon had been there at the start of the Republic (i.e 25,000 years old), there was no need to lie. Then Obi Wan winked at Anakin, making the boy giggle) happened to mention that Naboo was experiencing a crisis and Mandalore chose to send humanitarian aid, well that was not declaring war on a Republic entity. Of course they would also have to send a security force with their aid workers (Never mind that each aid worker is also a commando) there might be pirates or other dangers along the way.
Blockaded though Naboo may be, the blockade was not meant to hold up to a platoon of Mandalorians (sorry a group of Mandalorian aid workers with their security escort). They get to the surface, though liberation would take more firepower than they had immediate access to (particularly since they people were dying, thus a time crunch) so Padme negotiates with the Gungans to take back their planet. By the way, as soon as the Mandalorians and the Gungan warrior meet they get along like a house on fire (to the concern of more than a few politicians later). Our core group heads to the Theed palace to end things, while the Mandalorians and the Gungan begin the liberation of the camps (Made easier by the fact that the Naboo had not just been waiting to be rescued, many had been working from within the camps to make things as difficult for their occupiers as possible. At least two of the camps, upon hearing that liberation was incoming, promptly rushed their guards and were in the process of tearing the droids apart when the Gungan/Mando liberation team arrived. It may or may not have done more for Gungan/Naboo relations than anything Padme did).
Obi Wan does go with Qui Gon to battle the Sith. He goes armored, made specifically so that he can fight like a Jedi in it. He also goes armed with the Darksaber and a slugthrower (Obi Wan did indeed bring a gun to a lightsaber fight). While there is a little fighting, long before they reach the power reactor, Obi Wan drops back far enough that he is able to shoot Maul in the knee and they capture the Sith.  Anakin does end up taking out the shield generator (though the ship he ‘accidentally’ acquired was from the Mandalorian ship- where he had been told to stay for the battle; most of the mandos were a little alarmed at the 9 year old in the space battle but making heart eyes at the fact that the was able to hotwire one of their ships to do it).
After the battle Obi Wan calls his wife and introduces her to Anakin, Satine promptly asks ‘when are you bringing our new son home so we can say the adoption vow?’.
The High council arrive, more willing to admit Anakin (though still reluctant) to find that it is a moot point because Anakin, with Qui Gon blessing (as the Force only said that Anakin needed to be Jedi trained, Obi Wan can do that) was going to be adopted by Obi wan and Satine. Everyone is in agreement that this is actually the best solution (I want it clear that this is not a slight against the Jedi Order, their rules and restrictions are there for a reason and they would have taken Anakin in, but they could all sense that he was ambivalent about it). Everyone parts ways, with a light reminder to Obi Wan Jocasta Nu is waiting semi impatiently to read his most recent paper comparing Jedi historical Force traditions and Mandalorian historical Manda sects (The Manda and the Force both are and are not the same thing).
As soon as Anakin is adopted, Mandalore has an excuse to go after the Hutts (Frankly some of the more aggressive Mandos were getting restless). Due to the way Mandalorian adoption works, adopting a child effectively adds all of childs relatives (that the kid wants to claim) as the adopters relative as well (essentially adopting Anakin makes Shmi family). Family trees get very complicated on Mandalore very quickly (also all new ways to define relationships).
There are some changes we should acknowledge before going any further. Obviously Anakin growing up as the oldest son of the leaders of Mandalore has some difference (Korkie-Then aged 5- was ecstatic, he had specifically been asking for an older brother for two years), for all that Obi Wan is also training him in the ways of the force and the Manda. Also Shimi is living with them now.
There are some political ramifications that come from what could, in the loosest sense, be the Mandalorian invasion of Naboo (as some politicians privately call it) and the fact that the Gungan cities become a prime vacation spot for Mandalorian warriors. It never really goes anywhere, since doing so would mean acknowledging that the Trade Federation also invaded Naboo.
Padme wanted Naboo to cut ties with the Republic, she was fairly disgusted with the interaction with the senate which was highlighted by how differently the interaction with Mandalor went. This was never going to be allowed to happen (Palpatine’s status as Chancellor depends on Naboo being part of the Republic). This combined with Palpatine's (and other politicians) reactions to the Mandalorians that saved her planet, the continuing mistreatment of the Gungans by some (but much less) Naboo humans, and an unfortunate accident that left Padme as one of the sole survivors of her family mean that Padme does not become a senator. Instead when her term is up she, many of her handmaidens, and the other survivors of her family all move to Mandalore where they maintain a close relationship with the ruling family.
Padme and Anakin start dating when Anakin is 20. Their relationship is very much different than it was in Canon. For one, they had been friends for years before getting together. They were also not each other’s firsts (both having had romantic/sexual relationships with others prior to getting together). They are also not trying to squeeze too much into too little time as they try to hide from their friends and family, or justify to themselves their quick marriage. Frankly the lack of a war or a secret massacre putting strain on their relationship also helped.
Satine, Obi Wan, and Shmi never put any restrictions on how long they should be together before getting married, nor could they but it is important that they did not even try. They did highly recommend that, before any action that could be legally binding or have long lasting consequences (like kids) that the pair take at least one trip to the outer rim in a two person ship (the equivalent of taking a road trip together).
Anakin and Padme get married when Anakin is 22.
The Clone Wars break out a year later, in much the same way as Canon though obviously with different people in place of Obi Wan, Anakin, and Padme (Everything about the Clone Wars and the Clones is pushed back by four years. The setback is mostly because Maul was captured instead of bisected. Palpatine needed to be more careful for the first few years to make sure his cover was not blown). Though Count Dooku is the leader of the Separatists, he is never revealed to be a Sith.
Mandalore remains largely neutral, though they register an official complaint (that absolutely everyone involved knew would go nowhere) that Jango Fett’s, a Mandalorian, progeny were being effectively enslaved in the GAR. The Republic is able to produce paperwork signed by the late Jango Fett where Fett relinquishes any claim to any clones created using his DNA with the exception of a single unaltered clone (Boba), thus denying the clones automatic Mandalorian citizenship.  Privately Obi Wan contacts the Jedi and tells them that any GAR Clone that wishes to not be fighting for the republic will be welcome on Mandalore, where they can get assistance setting up and where being armored (and thus hiding the most recognizable face in the galaxy) would be perfectly acceptable.  The Jedi do find a way to start funneling clones that want to desert toward Mandalore. Oddly enough it actually decreases the amount of clones that want to leave, there was something about just having the option that made the clones feel like they could stay to protect people, instead of being effectively enslaved to the Republic (and it is indisputably true that innocents are being harmed by the CIS).
Mandalore does send ‘humanitarian aid’ and their security escorts to any planet that wishes for help. Ryloth annexes itself to Mandalore after the fifth time the Mandalorains were instrumental in repelling yet another CIS invasion before the GAR could arrive (The Twilek of Ryloth do not begrudge the actual soldiers of the GAR. They do understand that it is a big galaxy, they can only protect so many places at once, and the various battalions do not actually get to choose where they are being sent. However they do blame the Politicians of the Republic for the war going on).
Somewhere in the first year of the war a group of Mandalorians find Boba Fett. This group, who had long been close to Obi Wan (and had in fact been part of the group going to Naboo), clock the 10 year old with Jango Fett’s face putting himself in dangerous situations and forcibly bring him to Mandalore,  where Korkie goes ‘Free little brother. For Me! Don’t mind if I do!’ and adopts Boba into the family (for the rest of his life Boba will maintain that there is some form of Captive Syndrome happening, but eventually Boba accepts it).
During the second year of the War several representatives from the Republic are sent to Mandalore, in theory to encourage Mandalore to join with the Republic for the war but several are also secretly on Palpatine’s payroll and looking to destabilize Mandalore or at least their ability to send people to protect other planets (which is making it difficult to extend the war). They are escorted by Qui Gon Jinn’s battalion (an amalgamation of the 212th and the 501st), accompanied by Qui Gon’s new Padawan Ahsoka.
The representatives were given the biggest run around that was politically feasible (Which is a lot, every member of the ruling family, their closest advisers, and the escorts are all little shits who knows how to pull off ‘we’ll piss you off and you can’t do anything about it’) led by Boba, who still does not like Jedi very much; even he understands what happened was a battle and not an attack so does not want to be around Qui Gon. Qui Gon and his troopers are greeted like family.
Satine and Obi Wan, as soon as they catch sight of Commander Cody, go ‘Ooooh Pretty’ (Satine had developed a limited Force Sensitivity after carrying Korkie, enough that she could perceive Force presences and both thought Cody’s force presence was the most beautiful they had ever seen). Qui Gon, who had to suffer from a year on the run with Smitten Padawan Obi Wan and smitten Protectee Satine, immediately recognizes the looks in both their eyes and decides he is too old for this shit. He ignores all of it to go play flirt with Shmi (neither he nor Shmi are actually interested in each other and they know it. Qui Gon has not been attracted to anyone other than Tahl and in this one Shmi is very much a Lesbian. They both enjoy flirting and are glad they have someone they can do it with without giving the wrong idea).
I am torn between if I want Padme and Anakin to immediately do the same thing to Rex (‘oooh pretty’), or if I want Anakin to look at Padawan Ahsoka and go ‘oh she’s little sister shaped’ and immediately try to adopt her (Between Anakin and Korkie rampant big brother instincts, the logical consequences of Satine and Obi Wan having a healthy sex life, and the Mandalorian adoption gene- Satine comes by it honestly, no is sure how Obi Wan managed to inherit it- the ruling family of Mandalore has something like 15 children; Anakin is still the oldest).
The negotiations start and the Duke and Duchess of Mandalore absolutely insist that Commander Cody be there through every step of it. It is in part because they are being little shits toward the representatives(all of whom had been vocal in the belief that the clones were not sentient) and making them flinch whenever one or the other goes ‘And what do you think, Cody, dear?’ It is also so the Duke and Duchess can flirt, heavily and obviously, with Cody the entire time he is there.
Cody is a bit baffled, since he is not usually the person drawing attention (both for dehumanizing  reasons and Cody is oblivious reasons), but does enjoy the flirting. He also returns the interest in Obi Wan and Satine. Three of the eight representatives began to ask his opinion on their own somewhere around day three.
At the two week mark, working in tandem, Obi Wan and Satine spring the trap that they had been weaving since the beginning (Cody had been warned what they were doing, and they made sure he was in agreement-which he would have been even if he had not been attracted to the other two, just for the benefits to his brothers). For two weeks they manipulated the representative, and in turn the senate, to get those representatives an unprecedented amount of power in treaty making (Since part of the treaty process, particularly with something like a senate involved, is ratifying the treaty in which the negotiators take it back to the people in charge to agree, there is a vote and all that). Basically anything these representatives agree to is binding, law within the republic, no restrictions on what they can agree to. No one in the senate realized that these eight now had that power, that they had given them that power. Now Obi Wan and Satine led the representative around by the nose until they were agreeing to all sorts of things. Things like the clones of Jango Fett, and clones in general, would be recognized by the sentience of their species (with which comes all kinds of rights and responsibilities on the part of the senate to clones). They also convince the representatives to seal the new treaty with Commander Cody's hand in marriage (incidentally making all of the Fett Clones Mandalorian citizens). It should be noted that the reason these representatives agreed to that was that they, personally, would receive the bulk of the bride price for Cody (the final price was actually higher than the republic bought him for in the first place, Cody was very proud).
In addition Mandalore does not quite join the republic, the agreement is to take control of the GAR to fight for the republic. It is worded in such a way that the Jedi are given a choice (thus they can send the children home), a number stay with their battalions but some are also able to be called back from the field. The GAR naval officers, the natborns, were to be replaced by Mandalorian officers. The few officers that wished to would need to sign up with the Mandalorians (there were a few that wanted to continue serving with the Clones). One of the concessions from the Duke and Duchess was that, though back pay would be handled by the senate, pay for the GAR going forward would come from Mandalore(the reason that the representatives agreed to let Mandalore take over the GAR, they felt quite proud of themselves). Without knowing it this also derails the Orders on the chips, since Palpatine is no longer in the chain of command, no matter what title he does or does not take.
Three months after the Chancellor’s office stopped being in the loop for the war, the CIS and the Republic sue for peace. Sitting across from each other on a neutral world but publicly broadcasted throughout the galaxy are Count Dooku and Chancellor Palpatine with Mand’alor Obi Wan Kenobi there to mediate. Dooku and Palpatine have too much on each other to reveal that the other is a secret Sith (not without the assurance of victory, which they do not have).  They are forced to play this as if they are both well meaning leaders trying to do what is best for their people, as neither has an army backing them any more (The GAR is now Mandalorian and they have destroyed the droid army). Obi Wan wants to get home to his spouses (Satine was pregnant again, while they would love any and all children equally, Obi Wan was hoping that the little one would be born with Cody’s features).
I cannot emphasize enough that Obi Wan does not know he is sitting with two Sith who, if they thought they could get away with it, would kill him and subjugate the galaxy. He honestly does think that the other two are doing their best (He knows as a leader himself that sometimes a leader will make unpopular or not understandable choices for the betterment of their people-because they had bad information or because of their own prejudices).
Two Sith are forced to negotiate a peace they do not want because not negotiating (or stalling) would be so obvious as to give them away and if they are exposed now the entire plan is for nothing.
They are not down and out yet, but it is not far off. Their plans are derailed, and the person who did it never even noticed.
And I think that is the ending both of them truly deserve.

I didn't want to hijack/derail countessofbiscuit's post about opinions regarding Codywan, but another thing for me--and this is actually much less about Codywan than it is about certain writing choices in clone/Jedi ships--is that I like seeing clones as the heroes of their own story, as actors who effect change for themselves without needing to appeal to a more powerful person as though they're helpless to do something themselves. I understand that there's some amount of fulfilling the wish for a more ideal world/a monumental righting of wrongs in writing something where a Jedi is made to understand 'slavery = bad' through their relationship with one of their soldiers, then becoming an unrelenting moral crusader on behalf of all clones, but a lot about that dynamic really does not do it for me. (I could probably articulate why but it might take me a few days to separate out all the threads of that tapestry.)
Come to think of it, a reason I like Republic Commando so much is that it very much does not do that. The decisions our characters make don't have a sweeping impact that upends the entire system--they don't have the power to do that individually--but they do make their own, meaningful choices with what they do have the power to do, even if it's just on the level of "throw my dress blues into a trash compactor and walk off base never to be seen by the wider world again."

My first bingo fill!
Fills “Kiss for luck” for @codywankissbingo, and “Hands briefly touching” for @codywanbingo
card pics & the story under the cut
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Note for those who care:  Cody's (& his brothers') last name is Fett in this, and Jango is King, but Jango isn't their dad, & he has a standing offer that foundlings without a last name/who no longer want theirs can claim the Fett name as their own, so its one of the most common last names in this AU.
The sun shone brightly over Mandalore’s tourney fields, and Obi-Wan was not immune to the rising air of excitement as midmorning approached.
King Jango had yet to make his appearance, but the vendors had had their stalls set up for hours now, offering steaming drinks and roasted meats tucked into convenient little bundles of bread. Others harkened with shade-stands for those who hadn’t arrived early enough for their choice of seats, and Obi-Wan couldn’t help but smile when he saw Anakin at the Amidala’s stall, despite the awning already covering their row.
Usually, Obi-Wan didn’t get to see this part of the festivities. He’d be inspecting his armor with his fellow knights, chatting quietly with Cody and their peers as everyone prepared for the day’s competitions. Or, in the case of the Fetts’ squire’s, ran a betting ring involving everything from the order knights would be eliminated in, to the color of favor Sir Ponds might be wearing this month.
Obi-Wan shifted where he sat. It wasn’t that he especially wanted to compete today, this monthly tourney wasn’t anything of significance and Obi-Wan did understand the importance of allowing his ankle time to heal after last week’s fall. It was just that he wasn’t quite sure what to do with his time before the match.
Anakin had been extremely attentive when they first arrived, fetching a stool for him to prop his leg up with and hastening to fetch him wares from the food stalls; but he had long since abandoned him to flirt with Lord Amidala’s eldest, and observing the crowd around him did lose appeal after a while. Obi-Wan would have an ideal view of the jousting once it began, but for now he was quite without distraction amidst all the revelry.
“Well that’s a fine face for a holiday. Something the matter?”
Obi-Wan startled at the familiar voice, feeling a pleased grin spread across his face as he turned and saw Cody leaning against the arena fence. Cody had already donned his armor, with the exception of the helm currently hanging from a hook at his waist, and for all that beskar gleamed beautifully on all  of Mandalore’s knights, Obi-Wan thought it shone especially brightly on Cody.
“Oh no, not particularly.” Obi-Wan smiled wryly. “I just seem to be at a bit of a loss when I’m not the one preparing to throw people from their horses I suppose.”
Cody relaxed, leaning forwards even more to be easily heard over the crowd. “I’ll make sure to throw them extra hard then, just for you. Can’t let anyone think they’re getting off easy with you out of commission after all.”
Obi-Wan laughed and inclined his head with exaggerated graciousness. “Why thank you Sir Fett, most kind of you. Now would such kindness allow me a moment to readjust myself, to better converse with such an esteemed warrior?” Carefully, he stood on his right leg and rotated in place, so he could now sit on the stool against the fence and rest his left ankle of the bench he’d just been seated on.
“But of course, Sir Kenobi, I live to serve those who cannot serve themselves.” Cody lifted his arms to give a half bow, quirking his eyebrows impolitely at Obi-Wan as he did so. “Speaking of which, where’s your squire?”
“He is performing valuable reconnaissance by consulting the local population, since neither of us are overly familiar with this side of things.” Years of diplomacy training allowed Obi-Wan to maintain a straight face.
“He’s over there flirting with Padmé, isn’t he.”
“If you can call complaining about sand flirting then yes, absolutely,”
Cody shook his head with exasperated fondness as the two of them watched Anakin lean close to tuck a flower behind Padmé’s ear, only for his glove to snag in her elaborately braided hair.
“He does know he could just ask her to consider him a potential suitor, right? Pretty sure she shares his affections if she’s willing to put up with all of that.”
“Oh yes, but then he wouldn’t have a properly dramatic tale to tell their children, now would he?” Obi-Wan huffed, though the smile didn’t leave his face. “We’re all hoping he’s just waiting to pass his knighting quests, and nothing more extreme, before he asks for her favor.”
Cody stiffened in place. Obi-Wan shot him an inquiring look, but Cody only shook himself and gave Obi-Wan a tight smile.
“Speaking of favors…” Cody reached further down the fence, where Obi-Wan hadn’t even noticed his lance braced against it while they talked. Cody hoisted it up and held it horizontally, with the base extended towards Obi-Wan. “…I was wondering if I might have yours.”
Obi-Wan blinked.
“I know it’s not normally the done thing with two knights, since that might lead to some unfairness in the melee rounds, but, well, it’s not like you can compete today so no one could accuse us of that, and— “
“You want my favor? Me, specifically?” Obi-Wan almost wondered if he’d succumbed to his earlier boredom and might now be dreaming.
“Yes.”
“For some sort of prank on the betting books? Or, or perhaps…” Obi-Wan couldn’t quite make himself say his hopes aloud, but maybe he wasn’t the only one who had been feeling a growing sense of connection between them.
Cody smiled, and someone who knew him less well wouldn’t have noticed the way his shoulders tightened with nerves. “Or, most certainly, because I enjoy your company and would like to seek it out more often, because I like your smile and your sly comments and the way you can’t for the life of you show up on time when your duties aren’t at stake. Because I like you, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and would like to wear your favor on this field and any other.”
It wouldn’t do for a Mandalorian knight to cry in public, so if any passerby happened to see Obi-Wan, clearly his eyes were just watering from straining his injury.
Obi-Wan lifted his hand to the back of his head, where he’d carefully plaited his hair out of the way earlier that morning, and tugged loose the teal ribbon. “Would this do?”
Cody’s smile could have lit a castle in the midst of winter. “That will do beautifully.”
Again, he extended the base of his lance towards Obi-Wan, and their fingers brushed as Obi-Wan reached eager hands to tie his hair ribbon in place below the circular grip guard. Once, twice, three times he wrapped it around, and fastened it with a knot they’d learned together as squires.
Horns blared out, signaling for the contestants to take their places and the audience their seats, so Cody bid him a hasty farewell and promised to  come find him again once the tourney was done and the victors declared. He had just turn away when Obi-Wan reached across the fence to grasp his pauldron, pulling him back against the fence.
“Cody? Good luck.” Obi-Wan crossed the last bit of distance between them and kissed him on the cheek. He pulled back and burst into delighted laughter at the sheer shock expressed on Cody’s face, before Obi-Wan pushed against his chestplate. “Hurry on now, Sir Fett, your squire is calling. And perhaps, should you do especially well today, we might then discuss what other favors of mine you might desire”.

A Codywan and How to Train Your Dragon crossover that turned into a the Mandalorians factions are dragons AU, because I can never just do something simple and for the heck of it.
If you’re not interested the AU lore, leave now or suffer my rambling lol.
Basically, the idea is that Mandalorians started as a race that could shift into dragons. The Mand’alor line and those of most influence were notably ‘Fury’s (for example Mand’alor Tarre Viszla was a Nightfury and so is his generational line). But over time most Mandolorians who could shift were killed off or just lost the ability as more non-shifter Mandolorians married in. Eventually only a few of the Fury’s were around, and when Mandalore split most chose factions lead by the remaining Fury lines. AKA: the New Mandalorians/Lightfury’s, the Haat Mando'ade or True Mandalorians/Duskfury’s, and the Kyr’tsad or Death Watch/Nightfury’s.
Basically this also helps explain (in my head) why Mandalorians would follow Death Watch (terrorists) or the New Mandalorians (Intense Pacifist). It’s because they see those lines that can still shift as chosen leaders or a physical embodiment of the Ka’ra’s will.
How is Obi-Wan a shifter though? Well in this AU he’s the son of Tor Viszla. Long story short, early on when Obi-Wan was born he displayed being force sensitive, and Obi-WAN’s mom (Tor’s wife??? Idk it’s not important to the story) basically went ‘Aw hell naw’ and tried to drown Obi-Wan. Only to be stopped by a traveling Jedi who stole Obi-Wan and saved him. Totally unaware that this baby was Mandalorian, the son one of the biggest Mandalorian factions, AND also one of the last few existing Mandalorian dragon shifters. (Also Obi-Wan’s mom doesn’t want to admit that she lost Obi-Wan to a Jedi and just tells Tor that he was force sensitive and she succeeded in drowning him).
Maybe I’ll get into it later but basically Obi-Wan grows up as normal in the Temple, but obviously at some point he shifts and has the biggest panic of his life. But with help from friends (Quinlan, Garen, Siri, and Bant) he figures out shifting (enough to control it) and helps keep it a secret (Mandalorians and Jedi still don’t have best relations and Obi-Wan is paranoid about being kicked out of the Order anyways *cough cough Brandomeer cough cough Melinda/Daan*). To be clear, Obi-Wan isn’t like ashamed of what he is. He just doesn’t want the judgments of coming from CLEAR Mandalorian roots, and Death Watch at that. Plus he kinda just decides to not think about how he’s pretty much definitely related to well known terrorist Tar and Pre Viszla, because then he doesn’t have to address it. Besides he’s happy as a Jedi.
Anyways, NOW CODY-
So without getting to detailed (mission failed lol) all the clones ARE shifters (Duskfury’s just like Jango Fett), but they have it suppressed by the Kaminoans (probably part of their chips? I haven’t thought it fully out yet). BUT THINGS HAPPEN, probably Cody and Obi-Wan get stranded alone somewhere for a long time and Cody gets his chipped fucked up somehow, and now he’s shifting into a dragon???? And scaring the shit out of both him and Obi-Wan. But Obi-Wan exposes himself as a dragon shifter as well to comfort Cody and show that he will keep his secret. Plus he clearly understands him. (At this point they both are under the impression the clones aren’t shifters, and think Cody is just an outlier and “late bloomer” so to speak). Cue them learning how to be dragons together and be comfortable in their other form.
And eventually they get rescued and find out somehow all the clones are shifters, and therefore find the chips and discover Palpatine’s plan, SO THE GALAXY IS SAVED!
(Additionally the clones get rights and go to form their own society/group (Obi-Wan comes with to be with other dragons, but mostly to be with Cody), and they form an alliance with the New Mandalorians and accidentally unit Mandalore purely by the three Fury types (Nightfury/Obi-Wan, Duskfury/Cody, Lightfury/Satine) being around each other lol.

Bare beskar
On the eve of marching to war, Obi-Wan makes plans and digs out his old armour. Musings on Mandalorian armour and culture, the ethics of commanding slave soldiers and how that affects one’s self-image.
Could be the same AU as “Not Obi-Wan’s first slave uprising” and “What makes a military genius” (where Obi-Wan is presented with a battalion of slave soldiers, says please and thank you, and starts plotting how to take down the slavers).
Obi-Wan has Mandalorian armour, courtesy of the Kyr’tsad who failed to kill him when he was seventeen and running for his life on Mandalore. The Jedi frown on such soldierly things, so the armour has mostly gathered dust in his closet for the past decade and some. But Obi-Wan has fought in a war before and recognises that no matter how good one is, sometimes armour is all that stands between bleeding out in a ditch and living to fight another day.
So on the eve of marching to war, Obi-Wan digs out his armour to clean and repair and condition every piece. He looks at its light green for peace and green for duty, the order’s wings on one pauldron/over his heart. He strips it all off. He has no right to wear any of it now, and the bare beskar is a statement of its own.
Plus
- Feels about how bare unpainted beskar could be silver for seeking redemption, disavowing all ties (in that there’s no one and nothing to paint his armour for), for being an outcast (which in his heart, he has already decided to become), or all of them. Leading a slave army to war is really really not in the Jedi mission statement. Obi-Wan, having experienced his own stints as a slave, having brought up a padawan who was born a slave, and having already left the order once for an army of child soldiers—well, he has some feels about it.
- Obi-Wan’s closet doesn’t just have armour, it also has a veritable armoury of, ah, useful souvenirs from his various missions. Maybe it makes him a bad Jedi, but Obi-Wan has some difficulty with letting go of possessions that have saved his life. Such as the sniper rifle from Melidaan, a blaster from here, and a vibroblade from there…
- Cody’s/The 212th’s reactions to their Jedi whose luggage apparently includes a full set of arms and armour and little else.
- There’s a story that armour tells for anyone who can read it and I wonder if the clones could. There are only a few things that a completely unpainted beskar’gam could mean. Either it’s completely new and the owner hasn’t had time yet to paint it. But Kenobi’s beskar’gam isn’t new: the metal has scrapes all over it and some fittings are clearly newer than others. It could be second hand, but as the weeks pass, the metal stays bare. And even though some shinies joke about their shiny, very visible general, Kenobi won’t even put on a matte base coat, just thanks the men politely and keeps on shining. It has to be intentional.
- When Obi-Wan eventually repaints his armour, it’s in gold for the 212th and black for justice for the vode.
In the days between accepting his marching orders and shipping out to meet his battalion, Obi-Wan researches, plans, and packs. He sleeps fitfully and dreams of Melida-Daan, of Bandomeer, of Mandalore. He tears through the archives and with echoes of the Young in his ears, downloads anything that might help keep his men alive. With a growing cold like deep sea mines, he reads the clones spec sheets, reviews galactic law, and speed reads his way through the last few years of the senate’s bills.
He pulls out of his closet possessions unbecoming of Jedi—things he has kept because he has been unable to let go of the fear of . There’s his old XX sniper rifle from Melida-Daan. A blaster from here. A vibroblade from there.
And there’s the armour he got from Mandalore. It’s painted in green for duty and erin for peace, the order’s sigil on the pauldron. He can hardly stand to look at it. Standing here, at the eve of marching to war that is to be fought with slave soldiers, he has no right to wear any of it. Not the green of duty, for he has forsaken his duty to protect all sentient life in accepting command of an army of slaves. Not the erin of peace, for he is marching off to fight a war to force worlds to stay in a republic they don’t wish to be a part of. Not the sigil of the Jedi order, for he has already forsaken his vows in these actions—and has already decided to forsake his duty to the republic.
Obi-Wan strips the beskar bare. Before refitting the armour, going through the straps, buckles, replacing worn parts and reconditioning the rest. He spends sleepless nights in the salles relearning to fight in armour.
“Paint? I painted it when I was seventeen. I, ah, stripped it when I accepted the draft.” Kenobi grimaces, but sets his jaw and continues. “I couldn’t keep the paint I had after that.” There’s an odd, bitter clang to his words.

Hi! For the WIP List Game: Dragon Jedi AU?? I am intrigued
Hehe, that one is inspired by @bubblew0lf1's Dragon!Jedi AU! I adore all of their dragon designs, especially Obi-Wan's, and it got me thinking about a sort of fantasy AU where the Jedi are shape-shifting dragons. I'm not sure it's something that'll ever become a finished thing, but it's been fun to think about.
Rambling and a snippet below the cut :P
This AU's setting would condense most of the notable SW planets into continents/countries/cities on one planet; there wouldn't be any space travel, though technology would probably be better than in a medieval fantasy setting. Dragons are rare and I'm thinking the knowledge of their intelligence and that they can also be people is not well-known (either a closely guarded secret or actively suppressed)--and they're also being actively hunted by the Republic/Empire under the justification that dragons are extremely dangerous (this is Palpatine's fault, and he has far more nefarious reasons for hunting them down). I haven't worked out all the worldbuilding details, but I think the Jedi are a subset of dragons who serve as guardians where they can; recently, though, they've been forced to hide due to being hunted.
In this world, Cody and Rex are wardens (possibly heading up a small group of rangers) of a large woody/mountainous area bordering a very rural town far from the center of the Republic; the land was claimed and the town founded by the Mereel-Fett family after unrest in Mandalore forced Jaster Mereel (Jango Fett's adoptive father, Cody and Rex's grandfather) and his clan to leave. Mandalorians have a complicated history with dragons, but Jaster liked to tell stories about Tarre Vizla, a Mandalorian leader long ago who either was close friends with a dragon or was a dragon himself; details passed down through the centuries seem unclear. Jango's never been that interested in the tales, but Rex and especially Cody enjoyed them growing up.
Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Ahsoka moved to the town together pretty recently; I think Obi-Wan runs a bookshop (or maybe a small library? A fusion of the two?), while Anakin works as a mechanic who's teaching Ahsoka the trade as well. Cody likes to read and chats with Obi-Wan when he stops by for books, while Rex brings the rangers' equipment to Anakin and Ahsoka for professional servicing (Rex tinkers a bit himself, but Anakin's a wizard) and they become fast friends. Of course, the friendly neighborhood bookkeeper and mechanics don't tell anyone that they're also dragons, including the Fetts, but Cody and Rex find out the truth eventually.
The only thing I actually started writing for this beyond notes is a scene just after Obi-Wan (in dragon form) fights Grievous (also a dragon but not a Jedi) somewhere deep in the Fetts' protected area. Cody had been doing a sweep/patrol at the time and witnessed at least part of the fight, and he goes to investigate the aftermath.
Warning that it's more gruesome than I usually go, what with blood and a dead dragon. This is just also the most snippable portion of what little I have, I think.
There is a deafening thud, and then— Silence. Cody slowly approaches the edge of the ravine and looks down. A hulking white shape lies still at the base of the rocky slope, red pooling under its gash-ridden body. It’s hard to tell from a distance what precisely killed it, but the lack of motion and abundance of blood suggest that either it’s dead or will be soon. Partially obscured, a smaller brown shape lies behind the great white beast, closer to the river; it seems similarly bloodied and still. Cody feels a pang of sorrow—that one had saved his life, whether intentionally or not. …Better make sure they’re dead, lest any survivors roam too close to town. Cody picks his way carefully down the side of the ravine, shifting between stepping and climbing as needed. When he’s made it to the bottom, he draws his rifle and approaches the white dragon. There is no movement between its sharply defined ribs, and up close Cody can see where the base of its throat has been torn open by—well, horns or claws, most likely. He follows the long neck up to the head, where dull yellow eyes stare sightlessly out from behind a gaping maw. Cody prods its nose lightly with the tip of his rifle. No response. Tempting as it still is to put a bolt in its skull, he’s hunted enough himself to know what death looks like. There’s no need. He steps around the body of the beast toward the visible back of the brown one. One of its wings lies bent at an unnatural angle behind it, and— It’s breathing, quick and labored. Not moving otherwise, but still alive, at least for now.
(Once he works out he's not going to get mauled to death for trying to help, Cody puts his wilderness first-aid skills to use. He still doesn't learn that it's Obi-Wan for a while, though.)

Chapter 18 of “And I’ll Follow the Light in You”
“Shit!” Rex runs with several of the boys to the cave entrance but there isn’t anything he can do. He raises his comm, “Oddball, turn into the wind to stabilize…”
Another huge wall of wind pounds the gunship broadside and the left wing tips upward, driving the right down toward the snow. Rex is about to helplessly watch the entire ship flip upside down with thirty brothers inside…

📓
Hiiiiiiiiiiii @dontbelasagnax 🥰🥰 I'll fish out something Codywan from my WIP folder just for you<3
OKAY. SO.
One of my favorite tropes is, like, giving Obi-Wan to a different teacher/parental figure and kind of just seeing what happens, right? And I *do* have one where Jaster and the True Mandalorians rescue Obi-Wan from the mines of Bandomeer and end up adopting him. There's a lot of overarching plot that happens as a result, but I'll just tell you about the Codywan relevant parts.
So there is an attempt on Obi-Wan's life by a Sith apprentice around the start of the Clone Wars (because it's possible he's been sniffing around a little more on Coruscant than Palps would like, and he can't be having that). He's obviously fine but Jaster doesn't take it well (because this is his baby boy, after all, never you mind that he's in his thirties now), and the Republic sends out a Jedi and a small contingent of their clone unit to help boost palace security and provide specialized protection to the Mandalorian prince, because they really really want Mandalorian help with their war. Obi-Wan is of course less than thrilled but Jaster's not about to turn down help from a source more apt to deal with Sith.
Obviously Cody ends up being Obi-Wan's main bodyguard, and of course Cody's competency kink goes brrrrr from the second his boots hit the ground and he wants what's hiding behind the prince's codpiece so bad he could fucking explode.
They're riduur'e by the time Cody's mission ends. Obi-Wan sends him back to the Republic with a shiny new fancy beskar pauldron as a visible reminder of this and the threat that Mandalore will take the clones if the Republic doesn't get its act together.
What's most important to me that you know about this AU, though, is that is 100% wholeheartedly power bottom Cody rights, and he gets smooched soooooo much by his handsome armored prince.

The Witch and the Warrior
Summary: Being a Witch is illegal in Mandalore, and so you're careful to hide who you are from people outside your coven. But when dark forces threaten your people, and Crown Prince Cody starts a private investigation, you throw caution to the wind to save his life.
Pairing: Prince!Cody x Witch!femReader
Word Count: 6441
Warnings: torture, though there's no detail
Songs: None
A/N: So apparently I'm going to keep this AU going, even though my original intention was just the Wolffe x Reader fic. I'm not complaining though, it's a really nice AU. Though if anyone wants to send any ideas in, for different plots, that'd be cool.

You tilt your head to the side, listening intently to the world around you, as you silently ghost through the forest that is your home, that has been your Coven's home for generations. The forest has long been your Coven’s safe haven from the world around them, though over the years, things have changed, and the Forest no longer feels as safe as it once did.
There has been a massive uptick in Fell creatures, and no one within the Coven seems to know where the creatures are coming from…or where they go when they finish their rampage.
And so here you are, the morning after the most recent rampage, looking for something, anything, that might explain why this is happening. Or at least something that might hint as to where the creatures are going when they finish their rampage.
You duck under a fallen tree, and carefully climb over its stump, a look of concern crossing your face. Your fingers glide against the rough bark, and you purse your lips. This tree had been healthy and stood tall only days ago…and you can’t think of any creature with the strength to shatter a perfectly healthy tree.
You pull out your map and find your location, and make a note as to what you have found, and then you look deeper into the forest. Anxiety churns in your gut as you look out into the dark forest, you can feel eyes on you, and you know that if you take one step further into the dark, something awful will happen.
You exhale and turn to duck back under the fallen tree. You may be unable to stop danger that’s destined to happen, but you can also choose not to walk into danger.
The Coven Matriarch and Patriarch will not be pleased that you chose to stop your investigation early, but they will understand. They don’t wish to lose any more of their Coven either.
It’s a long walk back to the Longhouse that is the center of your home, but as you slowly make your wandering path back towards more familiar territory, tension drains out of your shoulders. You hadn’t even realized that you were holding yourself so tightly.
Your lips curl up into a small, but genuine, smile when you hear the giggling of children. And you slow to a stop when a young boy darts out from behind a bush, chased by his younger siblings.
You watch as the three children run around you for a moment, before a shout draws them further into the settlement. You shake your head and lazily follow them into the settlement proper.
Once upon a time, there had been multiple Covens in the forest, with multiple settlements, each settlement home to a different Coven. But, over time, it became safer to just have one massive Coven, and one settlement.
You make your way up to the path to the Longhouse, and you pull open the door, releasing a heavy sigh of relief as you feel the cool air of the Longhouse, soothing after a long day of wandering through the forest. You pass between the long tables, until you reach the small room that the leaders of the Coven use as an office.
You lean against the wall as you wait for either your sister or your brother-in-law to acknowledge you. Your brother-in-law notices your first, and a warm smile crosses his exhausted, and deeply worried, face, “Darling, your sister has returned.”
Your older sister’s head snaps up, and you’re surprised to see the look of relief crossing her face, “Oh, thank the stars,” She breathes out as she stands and crosses the room to wrap you in a tight hug, “You’re the last one back, little star.” Your sister says, the old nickname falling from her lips without a second thought.
That surprises you, “I’ve only been gone for half a day,” You point out, even as you lean into your sister’s hug.
Her grip around you tightened, “I know, but everyone else has been back for at least an hour.”
“We’ve had more than one report that the investigators couldn’t push further out into the forest without having to worry about being attacked.” Your brother-in-law mentions, his voice quiet.
“What did you find?” Your sister asks as she finally releases you, and returns to her seat.
You pull your map out of your bag and spread it across the table, and you point at where you found the fallen tree, “Here.” You say, “Something pushed a fully mature tree over.”
“What could do that?” Your sister whispers.
“A cyclops? Or a Giant.” Your brother-in-law offers absently.
“Neither of those creatures are Fell,” You point out, logically, “And people would notice if there were Giants and Cyclops’ wandering around.”
Your sister sighs, “We’ll add it to the list,” she says, “Now, I need you to put on your ‘out in public’ clothes, and run to the city to gather some supplies for me.” She pushes a piece of paper at you.
“What? Why me?”
“Because I trust you, and you love going into the city.”
“Fine.” You finally say, a small pout crossing your face as you pull the paper out of her hand, and turn to leave the Longhouse.
Your ‘out in public’ clothes are basically the same things you normally wear, only clean and not covered in sap or leaves. And, once you saw just how much stuff was on your sister’s list, you went and attached the cart to the Settlement’s horse.
Unfortunately, as soon as people realized that you were making a run into the city, everyone else started shoving shopping lists and credits on you. You sigh, and pool all of the credits into one bag, and you move the lists into your personal notebook, making notes on who needs what, and then you climb up on the cart and urge the horse to start walking.
It’s an hour by horse to get to the city, and, with the ease of long experience, you direct the horse to the stables, and carefully unhook her from the cart, allowing the owner of the stable to house her in one of his stalls, and there’s also a spot for you to store your cart.
You pay the daily fee, and then walk the short distance to the markets.
You pull your notebook out of your pocket and note that one of the Settlement elders ordered a new walking stick from one of the blacksmiths, one of the more crotchety blacksmiths, so you decide to bite the bullet and start there.
15 minutes later, you’re considering setting the blacksmith on fire. Which is much more violent than you’d normally consider, but he’s being especially stubborn.
“I ain’t giving you the cane, you ain’t the one who ordered it.” The Blacksmith says as he folds his arms.
You ground your teeth, “Grandfather Donovan is bedridden because he doesn’t have a cane to help him around.” You say through gritted teeth, “He can’t come to get the cane he ordered, because he needs the cane to get here.”
“Not my problem, girlie. If he can’t come, then the cane will sit here until he can.”
You slam your hand on the table, “I have the fucking receipt you stubborn piece of-”
Someone clears his throat from the doorway, cutting off your insult before it escapes, “Is there a problem here, Solomon? I could hear you from the street.”
The Blacksmith, Solomon apparently, straightens, “Well, Prince Cody, this little thief-”
“I beg your pardon?” You sputter, offended beyond belief.
Solomon glares at you, “-this thief,” He repeats, “Is trying to take an item she didn’t pay for.”
Your face flushes red and your fingers twitch, and you seriously consider laying a hex on him, “She said she has a receipt, Solomon.” The voice is closer now, and you turn to look at the man standing right next to you.
He’s taller, with short cropped hair and has a scar curving around his eye. You distinctly remember Solomon calling him Prince Cody, and, you realize with a sinking heart, that the Crown Prince of Mandalore is standing next to you.
“She coulda stolen that too.” Solomon says to the Prince.
He sighs and turns his attention to you, “May I see the receipt?”
You nod and open your notebook to the back, where all of the receipts you might need for today are clipped. You flip through them until you find the one you’re looking for, “Here.”
“Thank you,” Prince Cody takes the receipt and scans it with his eyes, “This is your handwriting, Solomon.” He says calmly, “Miss, why can’t Mister Donovan come and pick up the item himself?” He, at least, doesn’t sound judgemental.
“He was trying to do a roof repair and he fell and broke his hip. He’s bedridden, and is unable to make the trip.” You reply.
Prince Cody nods, and then turns to Solomon, “She has the receipt, and she has good reason as to why Mister Donovan can’t be here,” He says, patiently, “So you either have to give her the cane, or you have to refund her. Those are your only options.”
Solomon flushes angrily, but turns on his heel and vanishes into the back of his shop. There’s some banging and unhappy cursing, but he returns and he flings the steel cane at you.
You yelp and stumble back, but Prince Cody catches the cane before it can hit you. He looks furious, as he glares at Solomon, “You are lucky,” He says in a flat voice, “That this didn’t hit her.”
Solomon stares at the Prince, his red face going grey as he realizes that he just tried to commit assault in front of his prince.
You nervously look between the older man and the younger man, before you hesitantly reach out and lightly tug the cane out of the Prince’s hand, “May I have Grandfather’s receipt back?” You ask, politely. And you’re relieved when he hands it back to you without question.
And then he guides you, very gently, out of the building, allowing the door to slam shut behind him. “If I might make a suggestion, miss,” Prince Cody says as he looks down at you, “Avoid Solomon’s shop from now on.”
You carefully pin Grandfather’s receipt to the front of your notebook, and then look up at him, “Oh, I intend to. There are plenty of Blacksmiths in the city, I can add this to our blacklist.” You pause, and then smile wryly, “Thank you. For helping.”
He shrugs one shoulder, “It was nothing.”
“It wasn’t though. Most people wouldn’t have gotten involved.” You insist, “Especially for an outsider.” You add as you make a face.
“You’re here pretty regularly, though.” Prince Cody replies, “I know I’ve seen you pretty regularly.”
“Yeah, well, this city is the closest to the settlement. And no one delivers to where we live, so I’m here weekly.” You shrug, “I’m young, and my sister is the settlement leader, so I get stuck on shopping duty.”
He flashes you an amused smile, “Cody,” He says, as he offers you his hand.
You let out a quiet laugh, “That might be the most unnecessary introduction I’ve ever heard,” You joke lightly, but you still take his hand and offer your own name.
“Well,” He replies, “I do have an entire army of identical brothers,”
You laugh softly, and shake your head, “I’m not sure how anyone could ever mistake your brothers for you, your highness.” And you blush when you realize how flirty that sounds, and you blush even deeper as he flashes you a slow, almost flirtatious, smile. “But, um, thank you again. But I have to finish my shopping list.”
“Maybe I’ll see you again?” Cody asks.
“Oh, I’m sure you will.” You back away from him with a smile, and then turn and slip into the crowds.
All in all, your shopping takes you over five hours. Five long hours of haggling and bargaining. But, at the end, you have everything that everyone wanted, and all you have to do is make the trip back home.
The hour-long trip.
Your stomach rumbles angrily, and you consider the time, and the amount of credits you still have. Even if you left now, you wouldn’t get home until well after sundown, so at this point you might as well stay and eat dinner.
You consider your options for a moment, considering just grabbing a wrap from the cheapest place, so you can eat and travel at the same time. But, as your stomach rumbles again, and you remember that you actually skipped lunch, you decide to hit up the proper sit down restaurant that you never seem to have enough credits to afford.
You head to the building just down the road, your mind already laser focused on the good food that you’re going to eat. The beaming hostess offers you a seat outside, which you gratefully take, and you tuck your legs under you in the chair as you start scanning the menu.
There’s a light knock on your table, and you look up into the amused face of Prince Cody, “I recommend the Curry personally,” He offers lightly, “Do you have room for one more?”
You motion to the open seat across from you, and you flip the menu to the back, where the currys are listed, “The curry is good?” You ask as he sits across from you.
“The best, though it is pretty spicy.” He replies, as he takes a menu that a trembling waiter offers him.
“Hm, maybe I’ll try that.” You close the menu and watch him flip through the menu absently, “I would think that you would be eating at the palace,” You note.
“I was heading that way, and then say you sitting here on your own, so I changed my mind.” He glances at you over the top on the menu, a small smirk playing on his lips.
“So you’re skipping dinner with your family so I don’t feel lonely?” You ask teasingly, “My hero.”
His smirk grows slightly, “Well, I can have dinner with my annoying brothers, or I can have dinner with an attractive woman. Not really a hard choice to make, cyare.”
You blush, “Yes…well…thank you?”
Cody smiles at you, and the soft light from the candle on the table gives him a warm glow, almost. “You’re welcome.” He sits back in his chair, “Honestly, I’m surprised you’re still here. It’s been hours.”
You shrug, “It took me a while to get everything. And I figured it’s better to eat now rather than wait until I get home.”
“Hm…how far away is home?” He asks.
“An hour.” You admit, “I have lanterns to attach to my cart.”
Cody glances at the sky, which is already fading to shades of purple and dark blue, and then turns his concerned gaze towards you, “It’s going to be dark when you leave.”
“I know,” You sigh, “Normally I start shopping in the morning, not afternoon. But I didn’t have a choice today.”
The waiter comes by and takes the orders, and then leaves again, mentioning that it might take an hour for the food to be ready.
“Why the delay?” Cody asks as he takes a sip of his ale.
You consider what to say for a moment, before deciding on the truth, “There have been strange creatures seen around our settlement,” You admit, “And I, and several of the other people in the settlement, spent the morning trying to figure out what they are and where they’re going.”
“Hm…what kind of strange creatures?” Cody asks with a frown.
You absently play with your napkin, “I found a fully grown tree pushed over this morning. A fully grown healthy tree. It…” You shake your head, “It shouldn’t be possible. There’s nothing native to these lands with the ability to just push a tree over.”
Cody frowns thoughtfully, “When did this begin?”
“Mm…the first time we noticed something wasn’t right was about…oh…six months ago? Or thereabouts.”
His frown deepens, “Have you brought this up to my father?” He asks, “The kind of stuff you’re talking about should be investigated by professional soldiers.”
You hesitate, “With all due respect,” You say slowly, “My settlement isn’t in Mandalorian territory. Intentionally so, even. It was made obvious to my ancestors that we were not welcome on your land.”
Cody frowns, “Times have changed.” He says quietly, “And if you and your people are in danger-”
“We aren’t even aware of what the threat is,” You interrupt, “There’s nothing to report.”
He sighs and folds his arms over his chest, and you lean back in your chair and mimic him. His lips curl up into a small smile, “You are incredibly stubborn.”
“Probably about as stubborn as you are.” You reply, and his head tilts back slightly as he laughs, and your heart clenches painfully because he’s about as perfect as a person can be, but he’s a prince…and being a witch is still punishable by death in Mandalore.
“Alright, alright.” Cody is grinning and his eyes spark with joy as he looks back at you, “How about we talk about something else then.”
You eye him suspiciously, “Like what?” You ask as you take a sip of your water.
His grin becomes sharp and mischievous, “Like, do you have a boyfriend and are you open to having one?” You choke on your water.
It takes about two hours for you to get your food, and to eat it, and to finally extract yourself from the conversation with Cody, but it was a good two hours. Even if you did have to keep side-stepping his questions about potential romantic partners.
He pays for your dinner, and he grins and calls it your first date. And then he walks you to your cart. He waits with you, patiently, as you hook your horse back to your cart, and carefully attach the lanterns that will allow you to see on your way home.
“You know there’s an inn in town, right?” Cody says as he watches you attach the lanterns and light them, “You could spend the night there, and return home in the morning.”
“I could,” You agree, “But I need to get home. My sister will be worried.”
He frowns slightly, but changes tracks, “You’re sure you’ll be safe?”
“Positively, the road is perfectly safe. The only danger comes when I leave the well traveled path and head towards the settlement. And even then, we paid for enchantments to keep that road safe as well.”
“I still don’t like it.” Cody mutters.
You laugh and step back to the ground, making sure that the lanterns wouldn’t bother your poor horse, “Are you so protective of everyone you just met, or am I special?”
“You’re special,” He replies bluntly.
You stare at him, wide eyed, and then you laugh nervously, “You’re sweet, but I promise I’ll be okay. I’ve driven this route for years now.”
He sighs, “Fine. When will you be visiting again? I’ll buy you lunch…or dinner.”
“I’m not sure, a week maybe?” You smile at him, “Maybe two. It really just depends on what we need.” You hesitate for a moment, and then step closer to him, and you stand on your toes and press a light kiss against his cheek, “Thank you for dinner, and for the company.”
He presses his hand against his cheek, where you just kissed him, and he seems kind of speechless, but he has a delighted grin growing on his face.
“Um, I have to go,” You say quickly, as you climb up on your cart, blushing furiously, “Maybe I’ll see you next time I’m around?”
“Oh, you definitely will.” Cody promises, as he takes a step back when the horse starts whining and prancing in place. “I’ll see you next time.”
You grin at him and give him a small wave, and then you urge your horse to move.
********
Two weeks later, all thoughts of Prince Cody and the city have been shoved to the back of your mind. For some reason, the Fell creatures are pressing closer and closer to your settlement. To the point where you, and the older members of the Coven, have to weave protections around the settlements nightly.
The youngest members of the Coven had to be moved into the Longhouse, just to keep them safe, and your sister was forced to make the difficult decision to lose the buildings on the outermost parts of the settlement.
Your coven is exhausted, and short-tempered, and afraid.
You sit in your sister’s office, half asleep as she paces in front of you. Your brother-in-law has been missing for a week, just up and left in the middle of the night, and your sister isn’t handling it well.
You lift your from the floor, which has been so heavily enchanted that it will make you dizzy if you look at it too closely, and you pin your gaze on your sister, who is now wringing her hands, “You need to make a decision, Matriarch.” You say through a sigh.
“I know! I know. I just…what do we do? What can we do…”
“Have you considered asking for help?” You offer as you slide down the seat and rest your head on the palm of your hand.
“From who? We’re alone. Like always.”
You sigh again, “So what does the Matriarch order?” You ask.
Your sister looks at you, eyes wide and wild with fear, “Go…go and see how that main road looks.”
You immediately stand up and leave her office. You carefully step around the terrified children, and out of the Longhouse. People immediately swarm you, asking you if your sister has come up with any ideas yet, and you, gently, have to tell them that she’s still thinking.
And then you carefully extract yourself from the people, and allow them to whisper anxiously outside the longhouse, as you start following the one road out of the settlement.
The road itself seems fine, the protective enchantments holding strong, and you’re pleased to see that the enchantment holds all the way to the main road. Though, the further away from the settlement you get, the weaker the enchantments grow, so you worry that it’s only a matter of time before the enchantments fully shatter.
You step onto the well maintained road and look around, so far as you can tell, there’s nothing unusual happening. Which is good, it means that the Fell Creature problem isn’t as wide-spread as you feared. And it’s also bad, because it means that the Fell Creatures are focused on the settlement.
You’re about to turn back to the settlement when you notice something that catches your eye. Not far away from you is a detachment of Mandalorian Commandos, clad in the white and orange of the Crown Prince.
Your blood runs cold for one moment, as you remember the conversation from two weeks prior, where you told Prince Cody about the creatures threatening your home.
You turn and walk towards the soldiers. “What’s going on?” You call out to one of the men.
He jogs over to you and pulls his helmet off, “Miss, you can’t be here, it’s not safe.” He says.
“You have the whole road blocked off,” You note, as you look around him, “What happened?”
He pauses, “...Crown Prince Cody was investigating something in this area, and he’s vanished.”
“That’s…when did he vanish?” You ask, your lips turning down into a frown.
“A week ago,” The trooper replies as he nervously shifts his helmet from one hand to the other, “6 days, technically.”
You tilt your head, “...my brother-in-law vanished a week ago.” You say slowly, and his gaze snaps to yours. “According to my sister, they went to bed as normal, but when she woke up he was gone. And no one saw him leave.”
“Do you think the disappearances could be related?”
“I couldn’t tell you.” You reply with a shrug.
“Hm. Can I speak to your sister?” He asks.
You shake your head, “Sorry. The same thing that Prince Cody was investigating is actively trying to destroy my home. It’s…It’s better you don’t try to enter the settlement.”
He raises an eyebrow, so you continue, “We’re trying to limit potential casualties.” You admit quietly.
He jerks back in surprise, “Why don’t you flee?”
“There’s nowhere for us to go,” You shrug, as if it doesn’t bother you, “Also, I’m not convinced that the creatures won’t follow us. Is that Prince Cody’s helmet?”
“I…yes. His helmet, armor, and weapons were all found on the side of the road.”
You frown, “Let me have a piece of his armor,” You say.
“What?”
You sigh, “Look, I know these woods. I grew up in them. And I can use his armor to track him.”
“Our court wizard wasn’t able to-”
“I’m not a wizard.” You interrupt. “I’m no wizard and magic works differently for me than a wizard.”
“Follow me,” He leads you through the throng of troopers, and over to a man wearing brown and tan robes. “Sir, she says that she can help.”
The man lifts his gaze to regard you, and you look right back at him. You’ve never actually seen a wizard before, and this man is old, and he seems to look right through you. “Well now,” He notes thoughtfully, “It’s been many years since I’ve come face to face with a witch.”
You bristle, “We’re not in Mandalore-”
“Peace, child.” He holds up his hand, “I have long recommended to the King that he throw out that law, he hasn’t because so far as he’s aware Witches are extinct.”
“Not yet.” You say flatly.
“Indeed, and I am thrilled to hear it.” He folds his hands, “You want to help?”
“Prince Cody started an investigation due to something I said to him. I need a piece of his armor, and I’ll find him.” You reply.
The old man watches you steadily, and then he nods, once, and turns away from you. He returns a moment later with a simple vambrace, “Will this work?”
“Yes, this is perfect.” You run your fingers over the metal, already channeling your magic, “It’s probably best that you return to the Palace.”
“I agree,” The Wizard says with a single nod, “Gentlemen, we leave this to the young lady.”
You wait until you’re alone, and then you slide the vambrace around your wrist, and you channel even more magic. The hard truth is that, outside of hexes, there is little that you can do that a wizard cannot.
And, if Cody had been in any area other than this one, the old Wizard would likely be able to find him easier. But that’s not the case. The fact of the matter is that this forest has been layered with generations of Hexes and only a witch would be able to navigate it.
You flicker your gaze to the forest and layer your magic over your eyes, and you turn your gaze to the forest itself. One last touch of magic against the vambrace, and…there. A trail of gold, leading from the vambrace to Cody.
And so, you start walking.
The golden trail leads deep into the forest, into the oldest hexes that you have to carefully manipulate around yourself so you don’t get hurt, but at the same time, in spite of how deep into the forest you are, none of the fell creatures so much as looked at you due to how closely you elected to stick to the hexes.
You step out from behind a tree, and cast your gaze on a massive building, an old Longhouse, that’s half rotten and covered in moss. The spell is telling you that Cody is inside, and you can’t not go and get him.
So you look around to make sure that you’re alone, and you slowly, carefully, creep into the longhouse. You follow the golden glow through the rotten building, and down a set of stairs, and then through a long, stone, hallway.
And there, at the end, badly beaten, with chains around his arms and neck, is Cody. You hurry into the cell, once you’re sure that there are no surprises, and you kneel in front of him. “Cody?” Your voice is soft.
He stirs and lifts his head, his sharp gaze meeting yours. “Cyar’ika?” He mumbles, “What-?”
“Shh, I came to get you.” You whisper.
“No, you-” Cody stills, his eyes snapping to the hallway, “Hide.” He breathes, “He’s coming.” You pull your hands away from him, and immediately move to hide behind some crates that were stored in Cody’s cell.
You hear light footsteps, and you press your hand over your mouth and nose and settle back against the wall, so as to not make any noise.
“Well now,” A very familiar voice says smoothly, “How are you holding up, Prince Cody? How’s the bite faring?”
“Fuck you,” Cody retorts, and then he releases a groan of pain.
“That’s not very nice.” You peek around a crate and you see exactly what you thought you would see. Your brother-in-law is standing over Cody, looking gleeful. “Would you like me to tell you what’s going to happen?”
Cody says nothing, just glares up at him balefully.
“On the next full moon, in 3 weeks, I’m going to drag you to the Capital and I’m going to release you. And then you’re going to turn and you’re going to slaughter all of your own people.”
“I won’t,” Cody replies.
“That’s the best part. You won’t have a choice. And within the next couple of days the Witch Settlement will be overwhelmed with fell beasts, and I’ll have an army of Hags on my side as well.”
“W-what are you talking about?”
“Didn’t you know? A witch, if properly exposed to fell magic, will become fell themselves. Every witch has the potential to become a hag, and every Hag used to be a witch.”
“Is there a cure?” Cody asks.
“Hm? For you or for the hags?” He smiles, “There isn’t one. You’re going to turn into a monster, no matter what.” His smile broadens, “And then, once Mandalore is in ruins, I can take my place at Lord Vader’s right hand.” He reaches out to touch Cody’s face.
And you snap.
Your magic coils around your hands, and you lash out with your magic, slamming your brother-in-law into the solid wall across from you. He looks surprised, but also thrilled to see you.
“Hello baby sister,” He says through a manic giggle, “How good of you to join us~”
You are no warrior, your spells are mostly utility. But you don’t have to do a lot of damage to your brother-in-law. You just have to break the chains holding Cody, and heal him enough that he can fight.
You move so you’re standing in front of Cody. With a gentle touch of magic, the chains holding him still shatter. And then you place your hand on his shoulder and you pump what little healing magic you know into closing his wounds.
And, as a last act, you twist your magic just enough around Cody that your brother-in-law won’t be able to take control over him, and then, and only then, do you move out of the way.
Cody gets to his feet slowly, painfully, because you weren’t able to heal all of his wounds, and then he moves. It takes Cody less than a minute to render his captor no longer a threat, and Cody backs away as you reform the chains into manacles that will bind your brother-in-law’s magic.
You hurry out of the cell, and Cody follows you, slamming the cell door behind him, and then he pins you in place with a severe stare. “I’d like to go home now.”
“And you will, as soon as we make you safe to be around others.” You reassure him, your voice quiet.
“Safe.” He repeats, “So he was telling the truth then. I’m going to turn into a monster.”
“You haven’t changed, Cody. You’re still you. And I know people who can make you safe to be around.” You say as you reach out to touch him, and he jerks his arm away from you, your hands curl into fists and you drop them uselessly at your side.
“Witches. Like him?” Cody asks, jerking his head towards the cell.
“Witches like me.” You correct, without meeting his gaze, “Let me do this for you. Let me help, and then you never have to see me again.”
“He said he was going to turn you all into Hags.” Cody replies after a moment.
“He can’t. Without his magic he can’t control the fell creatures, and they’ll disperse to where they came from.” You answer.
“And the chains?”
“I’m the only one who can remove them. And I’m not going to.” You say, finally lifting your gaze to meet Cody’s. He doesn’t look angry anymore, at least. “Let’s get out of here.” You say quietly.
He nods, once, and allows you to lead him away.
It takes over an hour to return to the settlement, due to the sheer number of enchantments you need to circumvent, but as soon as you enter the settlement, a hush washes over the crowd of people.
Your sister looks like she’s about to blow a gasket, you can tell by the look on her face, but Grandfather Donovan whacks her with his walking stick. He slowly walks over to you and then stares hard at Cody.
“Follow me, lad. I’ll get you sorted, don’t you worry.”
Cody blinks, and then glances at you, “This is Grandfather Donovan. He’s probably the best person to help you right now.” You explain patiently.
“Yeah? Why’s that?” Cody asks.
“You think you’re the only person in the world that’s been cursed like you, lad?” Grandfather has a kind smile on his face, “We’re the same, you and I. And I managed to live a normal life. Come along, now.”
You watch Cody follow behind Grandfather, and then you turn to your sister. You have a much harder job.
Later, after a long conversation with your sister, and the people of the settlement, you’re sitting on a bench near the stables, just watching the animals eat.
And when someone settles next to you, you tense, as though waiting for someone else to start yelling at you. Only, there’s no yelling.
You turn your head and blink in surprise when you see Cody, clean and healed, and dressed in the simple attire of your settlement, and he’s smiling at you. “So…how’d your sister take it?”
“Uh…is there a word worse than horribly? Because that’s the one I need.” You say tiredly, “After she finished yelling at me, then everyone else started yelling at me and…yeah, no one’s happy with me right now. Save for Grandfather, maybe.”
He hums in response, “I’m not mad at you.”
“Well, that’s two people then,” You say with a quiet laugh. “So, um…how’d things go with Grandfather?”
“Pretty good,” Cody replies as he reaches up and lightly flicks one of the two ear cuffs he’s wearing, “It’s doubly enchanted. I won’t lose my damned mind on the full moon, and I’m the only one who can remove them. The other one protects my mind from being influenced by other people.”
“Useful for a future king,”
“I’ll say.” Cody leans back slightly, “He said the first full moon will be the hardest, but it’ll be easier since I’ll be able to keep my wits about me. He also says that I’m going to be a hell of a lot more protective of my family…and people I consider mine.”
“I’m sure they’ll learn to deal with it,” You reply with an easy smile, and then it fades slightly, “If you like…I can bring you back to Mandalore. And then you’ll never have to see me again.”
“I don’t want that.” Cody counters, “I don’t want to not ever see you again. In fact, the idea of not being able to make sure that you’re safe at all times kind makes my skin prickle.”
You stare at him, blankly.
“A side effect of the whole wolf thing.” He laughs nervously, “Turns out I consider you as…uh…mine.” Cody admits as an embarrassed blush crosses his face.
You stare at him, slightly slack jawed, “...what?”
“Ah…yeah, sorry.” Cody tries to shrug off his embarrassment, “Your Grandfather says that there’s nothing to be done about it, it’s just…how it is. So I really don’t want to be away from you, and I especially don’t want you to live an hour away so I can’t check on you easily.”
“Ohhkay…”
“So I was thinking and I think that you should move into the palace.”
“...what?”
“Not like…so, the court wizard is always a wizard right? And he’s really smart, but he’s also sort of locked into one point of view. And I’m kind of going to need a court…witch?”
“...are you offering me a job?”
“Yes.”
“Solely so you can make sure that I’m not dying in a ditch somewhere?”
“Yes…wait. Do I need to worry about that?”
“Wow, that instinct is strong.” You say blandly.
“Isn’t it? Congrats on becoming a werewolf, here’s your free anxiety.” Cody jokes easily as he bumps his shoulder against yours.
You laugh softly, and you feel him shiver slightly, “You know, I would love a job. Specifically if it gets me away from my sister and her accusing stares. But it is still illegal for Witches to live in Mandalore.”
“Not for much longer, even if I have to bully my father into overturning it.” Cody promises, and then he glances at you, “You’ll really come back to Mandalore with me?”
“Yeah, I really will.” You squeak when he throws his arms around you, and you blush bright red when he buries his face in your neck, “Uh…Cody?”
“You smell nice.” He mumbles.
You blush, but reach up and lightly smooth your hand through his hair, “I’m glad you approve.” You turn your head and press a light kiss just under his ear, which prompts him to hold you tighter.
Life wasn’t going to be easy for Cody going forward, but you’re sure his brothers will support him, plus he’ll have you in his corner. You smile softly as you card your fingers through his hair, everything is going to be okay. You have a good feeling.

With your Para au, how do the Jedi react when they find out why Obi-Wan agreed to make the clones? Is it unethical? Yes. But also it was a shit situation and he's TRYING to help the Jedi?! Like I just picture them being like o.o. This is technically better than him betraying us but wtffff.
What was Jaster like in this AU? I know fabdom has him being a great guy but can ANY political leader of Mandalore be truly good in this AU lolllll
after boga gets rescued by the jedi, he ends up killing quinlan (the mandalorian jedi spy) to make sure the mandalorian empire doesn't find out that there is an escaped obi-clone with the rebels. of course, because he stabbed quinlan in the neck, he gets put in jedi jail
anyways, this is the point where the jedi find out that a) boga and all his obi-clone brothers are all in a psychic hive mind and b) obi-wan has the ability to possess his clone sons and c) obi-wan is still alive and in jango's torture basement. which to be fair, is a lot of things to have to come to terms with at once
mace (and friends) is of course extremely conflicted about this, not least because he's thought that obi-wan was dead these last ten years, and also because making all these obi-clones is definitely against the principles of the jedi, and also also because the whole situation with a hive mind of 2000 obi-clones is extremely fucked up as a concept. later on when obi-wan is able to have an actual conversation (through boga) with mace, it's helpful for them to understand just how dire obi-wan's circumstances have been for the last fifteen years since he was captured. like yes, obi-wan is doing a lot of really dubious stuff, but also he's been unable to contact any outside jedi for all that time and he had no other options. also, it helps that the obi-clones are very conveniently positioned to help the jedi and the rebellion
jaster, at least from the standpoint of the mandalorians, was a good ruler. as emperor, jaster moved the mandalorian center (and imperial palace) from sundari to keldabe, and also made a lot of changes which shifted power towards the working class mandalorian instead of having it all sequestered by the noble class. obviously the traditionalists hated him for that, which was why he was assassinated, which led to jango taking the throne quite young and putting his legitimacy into question. jaster had a strong interest in mandalorian history and also warrior's pride, so maybe he had more honor than jango does, but whether that translates to being less shit to the people of the empire is inconclusive. we can safely say that jaster did not hate the jedi nearly as much as jango does, though, because jango's hatred towards the jedi is obsessive and very directly tied up with his relationship with obi-wan
on a personal level, jaster was really busy being emperor so he didn't have all the time to spend raising jango--jango was primarily raised by other members of jaster's clan, the same way that jango has not had very much time to raise cody and rex, who ended up being primarily raised by myles (and also to some extent by obi-wan, who they talked to a lot in prison). I do think cody and rex remember grandpa jaster and remember him fondly, but that has more to do with the fact that jango used to spend more time with them when jaster was alive than jaster himself. like, even though jango's the one who's kept obi-wan in the torture basement for eleven years, jaster is the one who built that prison in the keldabe palace in the first place, so what does that say about him?
which is to say, jaster is definitely less shit than jango, but that's more because jango is especially shit than because jaster is a good person
ask me questions about parasitic extraction, the role reversal mandalorian empire au that I have

Arthurian AU
Anakin as the Prophesied King of Legend married a foreign bride, Queen Padme of Naboo
his uncle Obi-Wan was his regent until he was Knighted at his coming of age, and raised and trained him; he now serves as advisor and court sorcerer
the clones are from a distant noble line from Mandalore, serving as knights and advisors within the court, although no one's entirely sure which line they come from, or how many of them there are, or why they're here in Camelot
(Anakin, when Obi-Wan showed up with a massive entourage of identical men: may I ask?
Obi-Wan: you may not)
Council Palpatine tries to present evidence that Queen Padme is having a scandalous affair with Obi-Wan
Anakin, eyeing Obi-Wan making heart eyes at Lord Commander Cody: she's not his type
a few years later, Palpatine does manage to find actual proof that the Queen is dallying with Captain Rex of the Royal Guard, and carefully brings it up with the King in a private meeting
Anakin is like, lol neat, keep this on the down low please
turns out, the Queen is not the only one dallying with the Captain of the Royal Guard
Palpatine gives up on trying to undermine Anakin's rule and leaves to try again in some other kingdom after that

My [ongoing] CodyWan Fic Masterlist
Hello! Sorry that this post is a little late, as I said in another post, I've been busy and it kinda got sidetracked--but it's here now!
This rec list isn't gonna be as long as the other one, since I haven't really had time to get into new fics (life stuff + the work of writing my own fic), but there a still a good chunk of them + a couple are series.
They're gonna be separated into "Ongoing" and "Abandoned" so that way you know what you're getting into and I'll put more info in the description--and yes, I'm recommending a couple abandoned works because I think they're still good and maybe with enough support the authors will decide to continue. Either way, they're good fics.
Ongoing
shoulder the sky by @shootingstarpilot
Have I already recced this series? Yes. Am I still reccing it again? Also yes.
I seriously cannot rave enough about how awesome and well done this fic is, and no amount of me harping on it will ever do it thejustice it deserves. This fic has made me laugh, cry, get really pissed at the characters, and it has me waiting (im)patiently for every update--like, every single day I check Ao3 and it's just to check if this fic has updated.
It handles Jedi and Clone culture beautifully and adds in so much interesting world building, it perfectly balances out the fluff with the angst, it handles grief and PTSD very well, and so many other things! The author is also honestly just very sweet and even takes time out of his day to reply to as many comments as possible (which is insane, because there are always like 70+ comments on every chapter).
The Emperor and His Mandalorian by wanderingjedihistorian (RangerJedi67)
Technically I think this would be considered finished, but the author has added a new work to the series every couple months since I found it, so I'm adding it here just in case.
It's a Sith!Obi-Wan AU where Obi-Wan kicks Palpatine's ass and becomes Emperor and marries Cody, son of Manda'lor Jango Fett, as an agreement when Mandalore surrenders to him. I honestly really like how this fic handles Obi-Wan as a Sith and how that affects his actions and relationships with others, as well as Cody being a sort of "balance" for Obi-Wan's dark tendencies.
I'm not even a big fan of Sith!Obi-Wan fics, but this series is the one that got me to start reading some of them--so it definitely comes recommended!
no one left to sing to by slotmachines_fearofgod
This fic is a really interesting take on what would happen in TCW if Cody took more of an active role in the story. I love the author's take on Cody's character and how both his duty to his brothers and all the Kamino bullshit effects how Cody handles Obi-Wan and his feelings towards him.
Also the ending of the most recent update had me screaming and crying at my computer.
The art of living anyway by Itstwointhemorningwhyamiawake
A "Rex is Force-sensitive" fic that follows Cody and Obi-Wan's relationship as well. This fic is pretty new, so I don't really know where it's going, but the first two chapters have been amazing so far!
Abandoned
the sun is just a star by clementines_and_colorful_things
It's hard to give this fic a description that does it justice, but it's honestly really really good. It's basically a slow burn that follows Obi-Wan and Cody through TCW and, according to the tags, would eventually lead to Order 66 happening differently than in RotS.
More Than Blood by generalekenobi
Where Order 66 happens a bit differently and Cody and Obi-Wan end up on the run with baby Luke and Leia, having to masquerade as a Mandalorian couple to do so (uh-huh, yep, totally fake--them have feelings for each other? never).
I really love how this fic gives Cody agency and lets him go "no, we're not doing that, try again" and actually effect the story's outcome. It makes the story a lot more interesting and adds to the dynamic between Cody and Obi-Wan--both relationship-wise and in their newfound mission in taking care of the twins.
I Can Barely Recall (but it's all coming back to me now) by Shortcuts_make_long_delays
Ok, so I don't know if this fic is abandoned or just taking a while to update, so I just put it here--just be aware of that.
This is a Modern!AU where Cody and Obi-Wan used to date, but broke up due to something that keeps being hinted at but not overtly stated (and fuck, I just wanna know what happened! It's killing me!), and now Cody meets his ex "Ben" again when he turns out to be Obi-Wan, Anakin's older brother.
This fic is really interesting and well written and, like I said before, I really just want to know wtf the accident is--the suspense is killing me! Ahhhhhh!
Honorable Mention
An honorable mention for Not This Crude Matter by thebitterbeast
This fic was gonna be apart of the "ongoing" section, but the final part was posted like right after I posted my finished CodyWan rec list.
This series isn't just centered around Cody and Obi-Wan, but I still think it handles their relationship--and other relationships--beautifully. It centers mainly around Jedi culture and it's honestly one of my favorite takes on it. I can't recommend this series enough!

Okay but so one of the Clone Empire AUs (AU where the clones take charge of the republic, usually from the seat of Mandalore and take over the galaxy but keep the Jedi but sorta… like pets??? But spoiled pets, not like the senate kept them) but told from the POV of the Jedi being currently kept inside the temple. They’re not really allowed out of the temple, NOT because they’ll run, but because the clones are paranoid af of them getting hurt (90% of the reason the clones took over was cause they were horrified at the senate treating THEIR Jedi like that) but they’re letting certain senators stay to help pick up the pieces of the galaxy (Anakin is in a pretty bad depression in the temple because Padme is allowed to leave to go to the senate but he isn’t allowed to leave without escorts and usually Rex basically putting a child leash on him and it’s giving him some bad feelings about it all) and the Jedi being nervous about it all.
Thing is. The force is CONSTANTLY telling them this is the correct thing to do. They’re supposed to give control to the clones. Clone empire will save the galaxy. But also, they’ve started talking in Dai Bendu around the temple almost constantly, shiftily walking away when the clones come over to talk to them if they’re in groups, just nervous stuff, like skittish cats.
Cody had to get Alpha 17 to come by to talk to Obi-Wan and Anakin before either of them would stop hiding in Obi-Wan’s apartments all day. Obi-Wan hasn’t cuddled with Cody in a month and that’s VERY concerning. Not that they’re together, it’s just that Obi-Wan likes using Cody as a bed and Cody is addicted to seeing Obi-Wan sleep for once. Alpha had to come by like a concerned dad and gently coax them out of hiding and back to being regular temple inhabitants.
Rex, in a move of desperation, drags them off to the temple salon (beauty, not tea in this case, the temple does and should function as it’s own city which means food and clothing production as well as other things like that) and makes them both get massaged till they’re purring piles of Jedi Goop and is pleased with his babysitting duties. A new haircut and getting rid of tension does wonders. They’re fairly normal after that. Obi-Wan goes back to teaching an Alderaanian poetry class (and supervising kiddo art classes) and Anakin is building a new security system that he’ll integrate soon, and Rex is smug to have gotten them the most normal so far.
The Jedi are skittish tookas who want to hide after this blow to their safety and lifestyles, but the newly instated council (which involves doubling the numbers so the clones can discuss the changes and how things will work with the Jedi) is working on a way to get them back to their true calling: peace keeping.
Basically, the clones start their own empire and use a very firm hand on the Jedi to get them to stop being attack dogs and start accepting love and help now. They are never forced to go on a mission with less than 20 clones from then on.
Bly and Aayla get married in the Room of a Thousand Fountains and Quinlan was delighted to give his baby girl away. Here, take her, she’s very annoying. Obi-Wan and Anakin finally get into a long awaited fight about how Ani got married but never invited his master and Obi-Wan is still hurting from it. Rude. Yoda is terrorizing the frog population with Initiate Grogu. Yaddle has more class than those idiots. Qui-Gon’s force ghost shows up and Fives is the only clone in the room that can see him and won’t stop staring at him with big dumb tooka eyes and Qui-Gon is gonna make him shit his pants he just knows it. Rex and Cody are trying to placate their idiot Jetii (Ahsoka was dragged back to the temple and dropped in Anakin’s lap and it was the most normal he’d been in years and they are inseparable now but Ahsoka ain’t getting in the middle of that lmao) with cuddles and hair pets. Padme is throwing up in a bush because she doesn’t know she’s pregnant and this is the start of a lovely bought of forever sickness. Ugh. Anakin and Obi-Wan finally settle their differences when the clones decide they’ll have another ceremony next month for Ani and Padme. Fox is drunk and dosing on a bed of flowers with a fully grown nexu guarding him, having decided he’s his cub now. That’ll be an interesting relationship. Alpha finally picks Obi-Wan up under his armpits like a cat and says if he can’t stop being grumpy it’ll be naptime. It’s very annoying. One of Bly’s troopers shows up with his foundling he got on Concordia when they were raiding a Death Watch camp, named Din, who has managed to catch Grogu and is cuddling and kissing him into submission. Grogu is delighted, and has found his soulmate.
