Which shows do you review? 

We don’t review shows that are direct sequels, shorts, or (generally) for very young children. Anything not licensed and/or immediately available is off the table as well; series that are dropped in batches (the binge/Netflix model) won’t receive a premiere review but are eligible for recommendations at end of season. Shows with late release dates will be reviewed separately from the digest.

While shows may change category as they continue to air, for ease of reference this is the order that will be used when discussing shows on our mid-season and wrap-up podcasts. Please note that any shows released in batches/by cour rather than weekly will not be discussed on the mid-season podcast.

I remember someone mentioning some quirks that were in Ingo and Emmet’s Japanese dialogue so I was just wondering..................

Has anyone done an in-depth analysis of the train bros’ Japanese dialogue? Or in any other language for that matter?

Idk, they have pretty distinct speech patterns in English (I’ve talked about Emmet’s in particular already, sorta) and I want to see how that kind of speech was translated into different languages

Ectoplasm Master (Alchemist Archetype)

 In Victorian occultism, ectoplasm was a substance that was said to be projected from the bodies of mediums during their seances with the dead and other acts of supposed psychic power. However, universally ectoplasm has been found to be various ordinary substances the so-called mediums would conceal on their person and release during their performances, counting on the darkness of the room to prevent close scruitiny.

It was actually the Ghostbusters film that popularized the idea of ectoplasm being a slimy substance directly associated with ghosts.

In Pathfinder, ectoplasm is a substance that occurs when something in the ethereal plane influences the material, often draping over ghosts and other incorporeal undead like a shawl when they push up against the barrier between realities. There are even some lesser undead formed when a psychic impression of a creature takes shape in ectoplasm, animating it.

Truly ectoplasm is the very picture of a substance from beyond the material plane, following different laws of physics, and it is those properties that today’s subject wishes to master.

Rather than traditional reagents, these ectoplasm masters use alchemy to bring out the useful properties of ectoplasm, grave dust, and other psychically and spiritually resonate substances, making them something between a traditional alchemist and a necromancer of sorts.

Exactly what these alchemists use this knowledge for depends on the individual, but there can be no denying the fruits of their research into ethereal matter.

 As mentioned above, these alchemists make their concoctions from unconventional ingredients of a deathly nature. Beyond the bizarre and oftentimes unappetizing nature of the extracts, this has the advantage of opening them up to new formulae beyond what an alchemist is capable of, brewing up extracts that can replicate various necromancy spells, from harmful to helpful and beyond, though of course they must put time into actually developing and learning them.

They also learn special discoveries associated with ectoplasm, ranging from turning their bodies into the substance to avoid harm to their organs, to conjuring simple ectoplasmic creatures, to creating bombs that siphon ectoplasm from the spirit, dealing full harm against ghostly undead, but nonlethal to physical beings.

A simple archetype, to be sure, but these alchemists promise lots of necromantic power to rival the reanimator archetype, but not necessarily focused on creating undead. The necromancy portion of the sorcerer/wizard spell list is heavily focused on debuffs and damage, so you can probably focus on a build that mixes traditional buffing with lots of fun debuffs, softening up foes before blasting them with bombs or closing into melee.

 In the core setting, this methodology and area of study has it’s origins in the villainous Whispering Way cult, which makes sense given their obsession with understanding undeath as a form of apotheosis. However, it has long since spread away from them towards organizations such as the Esoteric Order of the Palantine Eye, meaning that these alchemists are not necessarily chemical necromancers raising the dead, but they may be just as secretive. Whether that is true for your character is another story.

  In the haunted nation of Prikaat, many spirits linger after the great war and the troubled times that followed. Such a place is the perfect place to study the effects of ectoplasm and it’s role in necromantic forces. However, there are plenty who view the practice as disrespectful to the dead at best, and dangerous at worst.

 In the Graveyard of Ships, certain clans of shark-like adaro dwell. Unafraid of the haunted vessels, they sport many bone-clad shamans that keep the worst of the spectres at bay, and others among their kind hunt the dead, converting their corrupted spiritual residue into strange concoctions.

 Last heard from chasing rumors of a watery ghost, the ectoplasm master Dr. Kovis hasn’t been heard from again. Searching for him reveals his half-consumed body in a deep grotto, where the culprit and source of the rumor, a death’s head jellyfish, still resides.
