Life update

Something big is coming, like a gathering storm. I notice the change in light but I can't quite see the dark clouds yet. I am not terrified, maybe at unease. What will happen next? I lie in wait.

Today I've been gone from work for 2 ½ weeks and on Monday I'll be back. I don't want to use my head.

My co-worker informed me there has been talk about firing me. My co-worker also told me NewBoss told Senior that if they fire me it'll start a chain reaction with the outcome being that NewBoss will quit as well, because there won't be anyone left to order around.

It's a comforting thought for me, but honestly, I don't think so.

There's talk about starting our own agency. It'd be a good option. Not quite what I wanted for my future tho... I am trying to picture loads of money but it's not realistic.

I need more time to process the storm clouds.

I am paralysed. We handed in the keys to the flat last Sunday. Now I could concentrate fully on the house, but my body is exhausted from weeks of hard physical labour. It hurts and heals and all I wanna do is sleep and be numb.

My sister's leaving in 2 days. Leaving me alone in this mess.

Nothing's finished, nothing's easy.

On top of that I have a puppy here that is neither house-trained nor used to being alone. What was I thinking? What was I thinking? Honestly, these days I don't really think at all.

And once again I rely on people that will pull me down eventually.

Despite everything I am stable most of the time; that's a plus.

So I wait for the future to reveal itself.

Saints Row (Reboot); Neenah/Default!Boss; PG-13 (AO3 Flavor)

“Word is, you’ve been looking for me.”

The voice purred into her ear.  Mid-sentence, Neenah slammed end on her call.  With a shake of her head, she pocketed her phone and turned, scowling.

The woman behind her had a smile that was dangerous, in more ways than one.  Propping a hand on the brick wall beside them, she leaned in close.  A little comfortably close.

“Salvador’s been looking for you,” Neenah clarified.  “He’s got a job offer for you... same job, actually, he just wants you to know that it’s still on the table.”

She angled her head, studying Neenah with wide, ingenuous eyes.

Deceptively ingenuous.

Lying-through-your-teeth ingenuous, matter-of-fact.

“I don’t think Salvador can afford me.”

“Like you can afford to be picky, now?  He’s getting desperate – he’ll probably pay you more.”

“Maybe it’s not about the money.”

Her gaze dipped lower, and she started toying with the neckline of Neenah’s shirt.  Far less innocent, but far more predictable.

“So Salvador’s been looking for me,” she reasoned out, “And he sends you out to find me.”

“Something like that.”

“That mean something?”

Another shift in her footing, and she was cuddled right up.  Neenah hissed as the hint of teeth scraped her neck.

“It means you got a reputation for being a pain in the ass is what.  And now I’m getting a reputation for knowing how to handle your psycho ass.”

“Which makes us...?”

Neenah wasn’t sure this ever went anywhere good, but... it never quite ended anywhere bad, either.  In fact, it almost always broke even.

Still, she reached down to move the grip of the pistol that was digging into her hip.  “You packing heat, or you glad to see me?”

“¿Por qué no los dos?”

Neenah snorted.  “Suenas una gringa.”

She started cracking up, a muffled snicker into Neenah’s shoulder, and soon enough both of them were laughing hard.

Once they’d caught their breath, her friend shook her head, stifled another giggle, and made her counteroffer.

“Alright, alright, forget Salvador...”  She smiled that sharp, dangerous smile that terrified everyone else and with good reason; Neenah always found it comforting, and maybe that said something about her but she didn’t care.  “Wanna go for a fast drive in a stolen ride?”
