Forgive me if this is nitpick-y, but why'd you get rid of Scoot's disability?
It's not nipicky to wonder! Disability rep is very important. However, you could ask "did you" instead of "why did you" to make the question more open and less accusatory. There's no need, since I did indeed include her disability, though the signs are pretty subtle so I see why it could be missed.
Let's take a look at our girl!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The original style of MLP gives everyone teeny tiny wings and the suspension of disbelief. You just gotta trust those things can fly.
Tumblr media
However, my style is way more about speculative biology and anatomy. My pegasus have huge wings that could believably allow flight.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My scootaloo has tiny wings which will not allow flight. The anatomy is there, but something is wrong with the full wingspan. Here's a comparison of a flight-capable scootaloo vs my actual scootaloo.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Notice anything else? Those dark gray markings aren't normal feathers, they are pinfeathers! (it's hard to tell from the sketch smudges so don't worry). Pinfeathers are developing baby feathers in a protective hard sheath that allows the growing, living feathers to be full of blood, soft and delicate. All birds have pinfeathers amongst their plumage as they lose and regrow feathers. You see them a lot on baby birds just growing their first feathers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once feathers are done growing, the sheath can be preened off to reveal healthy, fullsize feathers underneath. When baby birds go through this, we call them fledglings. They will spend some time shedding all their pinfeather sheaths and then their flight-capable plumage will come in. Scootaloo is much too old to be a fledgling, most pegasus are flying by now.
Tumblr media
Adult birds can have prominent pinfeathers too after going through a molt and then having to regrow lots of feathers at once.
So what's going on with scootaloo? Her wings are there, the pinfeathers keep coming in, but every time the sheaths fall off, the adult feather is undersize and limp. My family owned a flightless cockatiel who just couldn't grow functional wing feathers no matter how hard he tried.
Nobody knows why scootaloo's feathers are deformed, but it is what it is. She can't fly and without mobility aids, will never be able to. She keeps waiting for her feathers to come in right, but eventually she will realize it won't happen, and be able to work around it and find other sources of joy

I'm probably going to do a terrible job of articulating myself here but every time I think about the worldbuilding in Hatoful Boyfriend, I think about the implications of having the birds simply have adopted the structure and policies of human society and go insane.
Tumblr media
It's clearly originally just for the ridiculousness of it all for the players, but AGH it explains so much regarding the extremely rampant classism/racism/speciesism and how apparently normalized it is. It also, to me, adds a bit of moral nuance to the Dove - Hawk Party conflict.
(Long post under the cut. I'm so sorry I just kept going.)
First off, I'm obsessed with the concept of the birds becoming sapient and simply... taking over a society that was not structured for them. It leads to difficulties in universe! Bird wings are not made for doing tasks that human hands can do naturally - there's a couple instances where the characters ask for Hiyoko's assistance or express envy since she can just do the task more easily than they can. The birds are outright disadvantaged in certain areas of life, and yet, the society is in such turmoil due to the newness of it all that there still aren't really any workarounds for stuff like this.
Not that there haven't been any suggested solutions, such as the Labor 9 series, put forward initially by the Dove Party. Yeah, you know, that one throwaway line about how the party that up until this point have been the "good guys" wanted to take still semi-conscious human brains and make robotic slaves out of them Cyberman-style? What the hell. And what gets me is that Shuu was able to find the initial proposal, which he really only made tweaks to, which means that the project was at least close to being finished on the conceptual/planning/design phase before somebody went "hey this is a little fucked up actually".
The Dove Party wants peaceful coexistence with the humans, while the Hawk Party wants to eliminate humanity entirely. But we don't really go into how these two lines of thought evolved. I believe I have a suggestion for at least one part of the puzzle though.
Of all the birds in Hatoful, who enjoys the most privileges and the highest status? Fantails, it would seem. A breed of pigeon that is popular as a pet, considered beautiful and sought after, and achieve high accolades in shows and competitions - for clarity's sake, fantails were valuable in human society, and this status appears to have transferred when birds became sapient and took over. Conversely, which birds are ranked lower and often blocked from entering certain higher class places? Rock doves, who, in human society, are given an unfairly bad reputation, and considered anything from unclean and dirty, to nuisances, to pests. Again, this status transferred over when the birds took over.
So, while we don't know too many of the birds who make up the agents of the Dove and Hawk Party, let's take a look at who we do know of.
Fantails (Yuuya, Dove Party) are considered valuable over other doves and pigeons for being specially bred for their striking tail feathers
Cockatiels (Leone, Dove Party) are some of the most popular and beloved companion birds, kept as pets and considered very friendly
Rock doves (Ryuuji, Hawk Party) are considered unclean pests who receive a bad reputation, and are generally not treated with respect or appreciation <;- notable thing to mention here is that Ryuuji actually does like humans - I think he was only Hawk affiliated for the grant money and research facilities, which... fair enough man.
Chukar partridges (Shuu/Isa, Hawk Party) are game birds, specifically bred and released to be killed and eaten, and considered a delicacy
...do you... see what's going on here?
(I haven't mentioned Tohri as he's a special case. Give me a minute and I'll get to him!)
The birds we see in the Dove Party are those birds that were already viewed in a more favourable light by humans, a favourability that transferred over to their new society. Of course they are more likely to advocate for coexistence! They have less to lose, overall. And the Labor 9 series, and how that could've ever been suggested in the first place, suddenly makes a lot of sense. For many of these birds, society the way it exists now benefits them. Some of these high ranking Dove Party folks may be less about actual peace and justice (like Yuuya or Leone) and more about maintaining the current order of things - humans coexisting under their control, while they get to maintain their status... which is itself a product of human invention.
The birds we see in the Hawk Party, by contrast, are looked down on or hunted. Historically, even before bird sapience, they did not have a harmonious relation with humans - and it's likely this status carried over to their new society also, with many of these birds being more likely to have been disenfranchised. Their goal of elimination is therefore reactionary towards perceived threat. After all, the people who suffer when things go wrong aren't the ones at the top - it's all the people who sit at the bottom of the social rung; the vulnerable members of society who do not enjoy the same advantages as others.
Of course, the Hawk Party has built itself up into such a powerful group that they may have lost touch with this starting foundation - the only thing that remains is likely that reactionary fear. After all, people caught up in the actual conflict - Nageki, Hitori, Ryouta, and Hiyoko - see this kind of horrible bloodshed firsthand (firstwing?) and just want it to stop.
Again, it's not usually the people in these political factions who are the ones caught up in their conflict. It's the individuals who lack power or influence.
But that's just the political groups themselves. On an individual level, it's kind of interesting to look at and theorize where along the spectrum our core cast falls based on their species/breed.
Ryouta (rock dove) is actually rather indifferent towards humanity as a whole - he just likes Hiyoko. However, his witnessing of the Heartful House tragedy led him to abhor violence and unnecessary loss of life, and I'd imagine his mother's later illness solidified this. Ryouta doesn't seem overly interested in political struggles or the broader implications of a lot of things - he's actually a rather self-oriented character when it comes down to it (this is not a judgment, nor a bad thing! I love my boy!). Ryouta just doesn't want to lose people, really. A conflict would mean more loss, and rock doves seem to have to struggle enough as is.
Hiyoko (human) is the daughter of two diplomats, but interestingly, we don't get to see much of her political views on things - perhaps because even if she expressed them, it wouldn't really matter - she's not herself a diplomat, and humans are the lowest of the low - her going to a fancy school doesn't really change that. Social-wise, except with her friends, she is tolerated, not accepted. Yet, it's safe to say that Hiyoko strongly disapproves of people who flaunt their status - she's quick to not take crap from Sakuya, to get angry on behalf of Ryouta and herself over the gull clerk's assholery, and also to defend Miru and Kaku as living beings worthy of respect. Interestingly though, she also uses Okosan's status as a fantail to get Ryouta to let go of him and let him do whatever he wants so... it's kind of unclear what her firm beliefs are. Perhaps, as a human, she still values fantails more highly. I don't know honestly. Implicit bias?
Sakuya, Yuuya and Okosan (fantail pigeons) may share the same breed, but their experiences are highly different. Sakuya is largely separate from the human-bird conflict, as he is unlikely to be directly affected by it. As such, a lot of his story and development has to do with actually learning and un-learning about the world outside of the limitations of his "father's" classist views, which he simply mimics without understanding the larger implications. Yuuya and Okosan, on the other hand, may be fantails, but are also looked down on and often treated as inferior - Yuuya for being a "half-breed" and for his reputation, and Okosan for being closer to feral than a lot of other doves. Interestingly, these two show more interest and respect for the individual than Sakuya does, who often makes sweeping generalizations based on status - which makes sense to a degree, as they've been on the receiving end of this kind of treatment, whereas Sakuya hasn't. Okosan believes that each person has their own "wonderful names" (read: identity outside of breed or status), while Yuuya is a genuine fighter for justice who is able to get to the heart of people, especially in Holiday Star. However, even though they have experienced classism, they still have certain privileges with regards to species/race - take Okosan's shock when Hiyoko and Ryouta are barred entry from his favourite store. None of them are quite as out of place in everyday society as some of the other birds here, and it's notable that "diverse" St. Pigeonations still apparently has a significant fantail student population.
Shuu (chukar partridge) is really interesting, as he doesn't particularly care for the politics of the Hawk Party, and yet his role as a killer/hunter of both his fellow birds and humans is an interesting reversal of the chukar being a game bird. Shuu also has a disability (his semi-paralyzed right side) which hinders him in bird society even more than most. His extreme, yet coldly logical solution to kill all humans to stop the fighting between them, could be as much his rationality, as his joy in the sadistic, as a reactionary survivalism (remember he was caught up in a human terrorist attack as a child - while overall he considered this beneficial to him, he also did lose much of his colour vision and the use of his right side, so it did leave him weakened). Shuu attains control by "flipping the script" as it were.
Tohri (golden pheasant) starts out in the Hawk Party, but much like his colleagues, doesn't seem to care much for their politics. Golden pheasants are game birds whose eggs can be eaten, but are more often bred and kept for their plumage - they're not prey, but they're not exactly pets either. All this puts Tohri in this interesting position of being somewhat in the middle of this conflict, and indeed he goes on to be a part of (found?) the Crow Party - an opportunistic group that seeks to benefit from the overall conflict. Golden pheasants are birds intended to be admired for their beauty and intelligence more than anything else, benefitting in some ways from humans without a strong connection or a reliance, and Tohri's opportunism fits nicely with that. (As an aside, our sole crow character, Albert, is also something of an opportunist, being an assassin on the fringes of society.)
Hitori and Kazuaki (button quails) are somewhat interesting. It would be both expected and understandable if Hitori held hatred for humanity after the Heartful House incident, or even before then, considering they were all war orphans. Instead, he doesn't seem to harbour any particular ill-will - he seems totally fine around Hiyoko, and her being a human has nothing to do with his reticence with letting Nageki hang out with her in the shrine universe. Kazuaki, too, doesn't seem to mind Hiyoko being human and isn't afraid of her any more than he is anyone else. While quails are game birds, with both meat and eggs being eaten, button quails are too tiny for that and are mostly kept as pets - they are considered cute, silly, and entertaining, though a bit too jumpy to be outright companion birds. The quails don't seem to experience too much in the way of speciesism (except arguably with the whole mistaken identity of Kazuaki's corpse... there may be a bit of an "all quails look the same" thing going on perhaps). At the very least, they are able to occupy teaching positions at a renowned school as respected intellectuals, and did go to university. Still, it's kind of a known thing that you don't put button quails with bigger, more dominant birds, since larger birds will often pick on them or even outright try to kill them simply because they're small and shy - this may, in hindsight, explain some of Kazuaki's demeanour.
Nageki (mourning dove) and Anghel (luzon bleeding heart dove) are the two who are uncommon bird species in Japan. Nageki is another war orphan, who would be forgiven for harbouring resentment for humanity, but instead is appalled at the violence and made a huge sacrifice to get it to stop. It's kind of unclear how Nageki fits into this society, as mourning doves are not prey or pets - they're wild birds. They live on the outside of the human world, and while Nageki exists within current bird society, he likely doesn't have a designated status within it. Nageki is unfortunately also alienated from much of the action due to his illness and later his untimely death - this is why a lot of Nageki's thoughts are somewhat from an observer's perspective, with his most emotional moments being derived from his rare direct experiences - specifically the Heartful House tragedy and the human killings he was forced into, which solidified a really firm stance of not wanting anyone to suffer like that. Anghel is another outsider, this time genuinely a foreigner, as opposed to Nageki. Again, Luzons are wild birds, not prey or pets, and so it's a bit unclear what his status is. This might explain why Hiyoko repeats Sakuya's remarks towards him without apparently realizing they're actually insults - Anghel is removed enough from the conflict she is familiar with that it seems she doesn't quite... get it. Again, Anghel's role is as this strange kind of omniscient observer, whose perspective is closer to the player's than to the rest of the cast. He definitely frowns on the Hawk Party's overall goal - the Demon Spores are evil to him, and his main objective is to stop them from spreading, as they would cause damage to both birds and humans. I attribute his morals to his mother having raised him right lol. The lack of a clear status for both of them may be why they appear to take the stance of judgment based on individual actions, but are not heavily involved in the conflict itself - while humans tend to like mourning doves and luzons, there isn't much interaction that goes on between them. Nageki and Anghel are simply less embroiled in bird society's human-derived status conflict, which makes them both outsiders and observers.
As a bonus note, Azami, Rabu and Kenzaburou are all species of birds that can be kept as pets (java sparrow, budgie, parakeet), which may account for some of their friendliness towards Hiyoko, and Kenzaburou's willingness to hire her. Kenzaburou is even a bit old-fashioned it seems - he sleeps in a cage, which implies his ancestors were probably pet birds themselves. It's likely he, in particular, has more positive views on humans.
...Please tell me I'm not the only one who spent ages thinking about the implications and workings of a fictional post-apocalyptic bird society. Also I hope this made sense I kind of went off the rails here.

includes— hawks x reader. minors dni. fluff.
warnings— gn!reader. you and keigo visit a pet shelter to adopt! so cute!
Tumblr media
"What would you think about getting a bird of some kind?"
Walking alongside you beneath the hot of the June sun, Keigo doesn't allow himself to be distracted by the way you tap at your lips, pursed as you think aloud; not for too long, at least.
"You're kidding. Please tell me that was a joke," he whines into your shoulder, mirthful and light to match your satisfied laughter.
When Keigo told you he never had a pet to call his own before, you knew it was about time to take your relationship to the next step. Moving in together months ago was commitment, sure; but you knew bringing a little friend home would be just domestic enough to bite at Keigo's achilles heel, hidden to all but you.
He swats the word family away from creeping up his mind, intent on being completely and utterly normal about this.
The shelter you arrive at is painted a fading shade of steel blue, chips peeling off the sides of the wooden planks; sturdy, but old. Quaint. Though it creaks, the raised porch seems stable enough underfoot, with winding stairs leading down each side. One path leads toward the cobblestone road, another toward a dirt trail you assume is meant for daily walks for dogs. Surrounded by trees and foliage, a little wooden sign by the path reminds, "don't forget your treats and baggies!"
A tinny bell clinks overhead as you both step through the glass door, arm in arm. The door is nearly as creaky as the steps, and just as so, stable enough.
Your eyes meet one half of the elderly couple you quickly figure runs the place; "the better half", she would answer, had you been bold enough to ask.
The woman is tall and speaks like a mouse, a unique match to her stoutly husband. He shouts and startles you from down the hall, over the sound of startled dogs.
"Mildred! The damned bell, someone's at the–"
"Oh, hush, will you," she smoothes down a dusty pink apron as she speaks, trotting her way to the door and pinching the bell to stop its ringing out.
You and Keigo both glance to your left simultaneously when you hear the man grumble in response. He slaps his mop down where the larger dogs paw at metal kennel doors. His voice reminds you of the canines that yelp and bark beside him, you decide; not in an unwelcome way, but in a way that makes your lips quirk with the threat of a smile.
"What can we do you for, darlings," the woman asks.
"We want to adopt," you explain. Keigo shifts on his feet like a child at the way you say we. The way you say adopt.
"We're not sure what we're looking for yet. One suited for apartments, maybe? But we're not picky, as long as they don't tend to chew on..." You glance at the red plumage to your left, then back at her.
The mousy woman eyes the both of you in your youthful excitement, the wide of your doe eyes. She takes a long look of approval at Keigo's golden smile that beams authenticity, even with the slouch of his stance.
"Follow me," she says.
The both of you make your way down the thin hall that seems to stretch on and on, adorned on either side by large plastic windows into cages and habitats. As if to give some privacy, the woman turns her heel as soon as you reach the beginning of the hall's winding carpet.
You catch a look at domesticated animals of all kinds, from the avarage housecat lazing about, to skittish, exotic lizards perched on fake branches.
As you walk, you're able to skim the nametags and descriptions for each critter.
"I'm a family cat with a lot of love to give," one reads.
"Don't tap the glass, or I'll make it the shelter owners' nightmare!" Says another.
While you peruse with each step forward, Keigo's legs suddenly stop at a particularly brazen, sunny yellow cockatiel. It puffs its wings at him with a tilted head— the picture of miniscule dominance, all thirteen inches of it. It hops on its feet as it it were dancing on hot coals, presumably to appear a bit taller than cockatiels are predisposed to be.
Keigo puffs his wingspan back with an audible flap, the tips of his feathers nearly grazing the ceiling. With a regretful squawk, the bird shrinks.
"Kei'! They have ferrets here!"
Once he catches up to you, he places two palms firm on your shoulders, peering over you to get a better look at the two little rascals wrestling below.
"Uh, should we step in, or," Keigo asks with the swish of a hand, watching the tubes of fur scramble over each other with their roughhousing. You kneel to get a closer look, and he quickly follows suit.
"Are they supposed to do be doing that?"
"Yeah! That means they're having fun," you exclaim. "You have to get them in pairs, I've heard. They thrive best with a partner. A lot of people think they can get just one," you hold up a finger, "but if you leave them alone for too long, they get lonely."
Keigo understands. He nods.
While you gleefully watch them play, he rises and takes a step over to a nearby enclosure where two rabbits are having their daily exercise. While the larger one sits and loafs, the smaller seems to be encircling the space with dominance. He leans his arm over the bars, allowing the critter with floppy ears and a patchy coat to hop to his foot and examine his fingers.
"This one kinda looks like you, babe," Keigo calls out over his shoulder, reaching out to smooth the ears down on the thing. By all accounts, a rabbit should cower under the gaze of a hawk, but this one seems to welcome his gentle touch. He tries not dwell on it.
As if on cue to interject his thoughts, the tinny cling of the bell rings and echoes again, causing the dogs to erupt into barks and howls and—
Keigo's ears pick up on a whine.
As if they have a mind of their own, his legs carry him down the hall toward the kennel, past the pristine pelts of alaskan malamutes and german shepards, down toward the edge of the room where the lighting seems to dim.
Curled up near the corner against the concrete, fenced off by a gate, is a rather large, scraggly mutt of a dog. It practically smells of fear, smacking its jaws and keening in its throat.
"Hey, hey, it's okay," he soothes as he crouches down, reaching two fingers through the bars. "It's alright, boy. Not gonna hurt'cha..."
The fellow slowly gets up, collar clinking with its hesitant steps and paws making little pap, paps against the chilled floor. While its head raises to allow its watery eyes to meet the golden gaze reflected back, that tail remains pointed downward.
Keigo blinks down, unmoving save for the tilt of his head; and to the creature, he looks unfamiliarily kind.
He can't get the visual of the caged thing running somewhere lush and green and free out of his head. It sniffs his hand, giving a tentative lick and another whine.
"Let's get you home, yeah?"

could you review some of the neopets as animals outfits, like the fennec kacheek, red panda vandagyre, and cockatiel pteri? (those are examples, choose whichever you like!) thank you <3
(Note: I included a random selection of outfits in this post, but feel free to send in asks if anyone wants to see a specific outfit I didn't cover.)
I'll be honest, I'm personally not super big on the "outfit that resembles a real-world animal" trend. First, I play Neopets for the cool fantasy creatures; even the most true-to-life Neopets species have some pretty fantastical colors. I feel like making pets just look exactly like actual animals kind of defeats the purpose of them being Neopets. I get why people would like it and I'm not saying it's bad; it's just not my thing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, the other reason I'm not always big on these outfits is that a lot of Neopets have colours that already resemble real animal patterns. Not only do the outfits blur the colour/customization line quite a bit, but usually I like the colour ones much more, as they keep the actual design of the Neopets in place and just change the patterns and colors, rather than covering up the fun fantasy elements. This also helps them avoid the uncanny valley effect, which I talk about more below.
Also I might be over thinking this but who is making these outfits. None of these animals seem to exist in-universe as far as we're aware. what are the shopkeepers basing these off of. the colours at least have a magic as an excuse
Examples that I think are okay:
Tumblr media
Feathery Pteri Outfit: This one's nice! I like the layered patterning on the wings and the high-contrast colors. Most, though, I like that this sticks fairly close to the actual pet, mostly just changing up the tail shape. This almost could've been a paintbrush colour, but then again what colour is up in the air.
(Side note: the eye clipping over the beak is a rendering issue? I think?)
Tumblr media
Bouncing Zafara: This one definitely strays farther from the actual pet than the Pteri, but it's a fitting animal choice and it doesn't fall into the uncanny valley, which is all I care about. The body is still somewhat recognizable as a Zafara in terms of shape, and the Miamouse as the joey is super cute.
Tumblr media
Freshwater Lenny: Kind of the same case as the Zafara; not super one-to-one with the actual pet, but it's still recognizable as a Lenny and isn't too uncanny. The legs are a particularly nice touch, actually changing the pose to look more heron-like (though they are also the part that strays dangerously into being too detailed).
Please don't:
Tumblr media
Adorable Kacheek: Sorry to the fans of this one, but this outfit just resides deep within the uncanny valley to me—like it's a mascot suit instead of just a normal pet. The artstyle is way off from Neopets, looking much more Subeta-ish (except Subeta's art usually isn't so off putting). It's not a bad artstyle, mind you, it's just not very Neopets-ish. I also feel like a fennec fox was also a bad pick for this one, as it's basically unrecognizable as a Kacheek at all.
Tumblr media
Feathered Eyrie: Speaking of the uncanny valley, this is another pet that lands squarely there due to having entirely too much detail in the shading and weirdly realistic fur textures. It also just doesn't look very good aesthetically—the beak doesn't fit the face, and the wings are an absolute trainwreck (not only is the perspective wrong, but the left wing is coming from the middle of its back!). On the plus side, you'd be hard pressed to not recognize this as an Eyrie, and it's a fantasy creature instead of a regular animal, so I guess that's something?
Tumblr media
Furry Meerca: Hmm... no. This one also suffers from an overly-detailed artstyle and way too much realism, which is especially jarring when placed on top of the Meerca's heavily stylized body shape, resulting in a perfectly round animal with hyper-realistic animal eyes. It's also particularly bothersome because we already had a chipmunk Meerca design in the form of the striped Meerca colour, which is just this but less soul-haunting:
Tumblr media
Which is what I meant at the beginning when I was talking about colours vs outfits. The colour is a Meerca that looks like a chipmunk; the outfit is a chipmunk that looks like a Meerca. Big difference.

Kingdom Hearts Tamagotchi Adventures
So, I got the Kingdom Hearts Tamagotchi for my birthday this year. and it was only in September that I decided to activate it (I was hesitant because I know Tamagotchi can be needy and can't be turned off). So here's my so-far roughly one month journey!
Tumblr media
Here he is- Base Sora on day 1. I took care of him, played games, and generally fiddled about with what I could do. This was my first ever Tamagotchi, so it was a new experience to me. You fight Shadow Heartless, Dusk Nobodies and Flood Unversed occasionally with the tap of the 'A' button. They didn't happen super frequently so I was fine fending them off.
Unfortunately things didn't go well. I became ill with stomach flu the night after. The manual says it takes roughly 49 hours for Sora to change/evolve. and well...
Tumblr media
When I was able to move again... I woke up to... uh... Heartless Sora. Everything remained the same, except the food and treat (Paopu and Icecream) turned into Heart and !. Heart being that you well- fed him hearts, and ! meaning he attacked you (I think... he vanished then appeared closer and waved his arms about). I felt really bad that my first Tamagotchi basically 'died' because of things I couldn't control. But I enjoyed my time with Heartless Sora; and after a few days, Kairi found him and saved him! Very cute 2 bit scene. Back to Normal Sora. I found an issue. You see... I'm more nocturnal; and this Tamagotchi... wasn't. He woke up at 9AM and slept at 10PM; meaning he didn't get the right care from me.. but I figured I could change the time to suit me- and did. Now he wakes up at 12PM and sleeps at 2AM- same as me. Next evo was a surprise! Sora introduced me to (and trusted me to care?) Riku!
Tumblr media
This was when I found out each character/evo has different sleeping schedules. Riku would sleep late and wake late (I'm thankful it wasn't early due to the whole Dawn motif because I didn't want to change the clock too much again). They also have their own unique cutscenes, with Riku primarily featuring Mickey. Not much happened, and I showed Riku to Riku(My Riku... the cockatiel- named after... Riku). But He left and Sora returned. At this point I wanted to aim for Roxas- or Ventus (I'm sad there's no Vanitas). So I miiight have looked up a quick wiki to see how to get the characters. "Wow that's cheating" you might say.. and yeah- probably... the issue is that I didn't get Roxas.
Tumblr media
Instead, Sora 'grew up' into KHII Sora. I was interested to see what kind of outfit or character I could get to show up, so I continued with normal care.
On the 28th of September... Sora.. ever the festive fellow...
Tumblr media
Donned his Santa outfit.
I found it kinda funny, but kept him up with Normal care. I was starting to forget him (I got a little drawer handle I put him on during the evening on my right hand ride next to my monitor, and during the day he's on the couch arm- I don't take him out because I'm scared I'll lose the Tamagotchi somewhere). So He was getting upset/hungry; but if he beeped I knew he needed something. He Unlocked/locked the Keyhole to Halloween/Christmas Town, then flew off in the Gummiship, returning as Normal Sora. After 49 hours, he once again reintroduced me to Riku. having forbidden knowledge, I knew I could turn Riku into Dark Riku. and tried.
I. Felt. Awful.
I know they're just 2bit pixelart on the screen... but Riku has a special place in my heart (I named my grumpy, gay cockatiel after him!) so me... just basically neglecting Riku? it hurt :(
Tumblr media
After this. He did not turn into Dark Riku. He left. just straight-up.
Sora flew back in on the Gummiship and my quest to get Roxas/Ventus continued.
But I was surprised when I came back after an outing to find... Sora turned into a fish
Tumblr media
Wiki says he's from 'Bad care', but I don't remember giving him subpar treatment, and catering to what he wanted- so I'm baffled. He did come with an Aerial/Sebastian scene, though- so that was cute. He didn't stay for long and locked Atlantica's Keyhole, returning as Basic Sora.
Again- I tried to get Roxas, but instead got KHII Sora again; so I thought I could maybe get Axel or Xion; since they're included in the KHII evo list.
Nope. Christmas Sora again. Oh well- He does love Christmas.
I'll update this if I get anything interesting. I know you can get Xehanort- I recognised his Silhouette on the manual, so maybe I'll get him one day.
I'm still waiting on Roxas..

Another night another inside job brainrot
Inside job characters and pets they'd get with reader!
(Hcs for Brett, Reagan, Andre, and Gigi)
Tumblr media
Brett:
- This feels pretty predictable but you guys would get a dog.
- Honestly at this point it just feels like there's two dogs in the house bc they have the same exact energy levels
- you have no complaints though! You love your bf and you love your dog so you're more than willing to deal with the energy levels
- you guys can take the dog on walks together which has led to a lot of nice moments of just. Peacefulness together.
- Alternatively: I think he'd love any bird in the parrot family? Maybe a cockatiel bc of the hair LOL
- Brett's urge to laugh at you teaching the bird cuss words vs telling you to not teach the bird to greet everyone with "What the fuck?!"
- you want to name your pet smth actually normal bur he talks you into naming it after some stupid animal pun based off a movie character
- idk honestly I think he'd really like to take care of any kind of pet that likes lots of engagement with you♡ leafs to lots of stuff together!
Reagan:
- Also pretty self explanatory, but a cat
- it takes awhile to convince her. She already shoulders a lot of work, plus the last pets she had were the turtles from her childhood which didn't. Go Well.
- but eventually you're able to convince her by the power of Being Annoying On Purpose
- she's basically the "I don't want a cat" vs walking into the room to see her baby talking the cat kinda energy
- it's not that she doesn't like cats at all, just the energy required to own one is what put her off initially, but now that the furball is in the home she is so in love with the small creature
- she just honestly likes the semi-independence of it. She likes that she can get any leftover work done at home whole the cat will entertain itself.
- plus have u ever had a cat sleep on your chest after a stressful day? God's work 🙏
- meanwhile you are the opposite. You will hug that cat all day. ITS NOT YOUR FUALT ITS SO FLUFFY AND CUTE
- cue lots of distant "MeooOW??" in another room that Reagan hears everytime you pick it up
- "Stop picking the fucking cat up like a baby!" "Tell it to stop being baby shaped then, idiot."
- You guys spend hours thinking of a good name and then just decide on something really stupid like "fishstick"
Andre:
- Honestly? Seems like a reptile kinda guy?? You'd guys probably get anything from something as small as a leopard gecko to a fucking python snake
- ok but. Snake.
- u both decide to name it smth dumb as hell like "Noodle"
- Andre is actually? Surprisingly very well educated in snake care.
- Like, he actually has made sure that everything from cage size to temperature to food is right. He's really been interested in them for a long time.
- meanwhile u just like the fact that the front of a snake face looks like ":]"
- people can just walk by you two working on something in your lab and there's just. A huge fucking snake slithering over your guys' arms and back.
Gigi:
- FERRET.
- I can't explain this one. It's a fucking ferret. Is fluffy. Is noodle. Are you jokester?
- you let Gigi take full liberty of naming it because you trust her to come up with something fitting
- you will both drop whatever your doing to just watch your ferret in silence as the run up and down one of those little play tube tunnels.
- the ferret definitely picks favorites and it's Gigi. Everytime you walk into a room, it's wrapped over Gigi's shoulders
- getting it the most obnoxious colored harness and walking it.
- people give you guys strange looks, but you don't mind. You're just happy to have your gf and your demon child of a ferret♡

Rottmnt x Ninjago Yokai Species!
I'm still figuring out everyone's Yokai species. But here are some ideas!
Kai and Nya: Tigons (Male Tiger x Female Lion hybrid) Ray is a Bengal Tiger and Maya is Asiatic Lion. Kai has normal tiger colors. But Nya has White Tiger coloration. I thought those fur colors would match their Elemental powers nicely and differentiate them a bit more too.
Zane: Arctic Wolf! And he's still a android I might add! More on that later. Mostly because I'm not sure how to make it work.
Pixal: Snow Leopard. I don't know. That just seemed to suit her. She is also an android.
Jay: Definitely a bird of some sort. I was thinking a roadrunner or cockatiel maybe? Definitely not a Blue Jay though. That just seems too on the nose. Lol.
Cole: NO IDEA YET!😫 I considered everything from a Bear, to a Tortoise, to a Leather Back sea turtle, to literally just some MADE UP lizard.🤣 I'm having a REALLY hard time with him. So suggestions are appreciated.
Master Wu: Dragon definitely. A gold and white one and clearly Eastern inspired.
Lloyd: Also a dragon. A green one. And he'd look like a cross between a European and Eastern Dragon maybe? That's not final, so don't quote me on that.

sometimes I think about the house my grandma raised my mother and uncle in, that my grandfather lived in before he died, that my sister and my parents and I would all come over to for holidays. when my sister and I were little, we loved watching Disney and Nickelodeon on my grandma’s TV because all we could get at home was PBS for the longest time. she had an old antique piano that was out of tune, and when I started learning to play the piano in middle school, I would go plink out “Legend of Zelda” songs on it and think about how I was playing songs much, much younger than that 100-year-old piano. and we tried to plant a garden in her backyard, but it got overgrown with weeds. and one day we found tadpoles in the birdbath, and she let us take some home so we could watch them grow into frogs. my grandfather had an old green easy chair he was always sitting in, and two toes that crossed over each other and wouldn’t sit normally. I liked to watch nature documentaries with him. right before he died, we would talk about world history because he was very interested in it, and I was just beginning to be. there was a painting of my mother when she was a child on the wall of one of the bedrooms, and I would always stare at it because it looked exactly like my older sister. my grandmother had an outdoor swimming pool where we would sit by as we watched my uncle launch Fourth of July fireworks, but when I got older and wasn’t interested in fireworks anymore, or the United States had made me too disillusioned with the Fourth of July for me to watch fireworks, I sat inside with my aunt and the dogs to keep them company. there was a big tree in the yard I loved to climb, and when I was in middle or high school, I would take my instruments up there to play them while sitting in a tree, just because playing instruments in a tree sounded like a magical thing to do. my grandmother had a pantry full of snacks just for my sister and I- Scooby Doo fruit snacks with the light blue one still in there and Saltine crackers, and a fridge full of sodas and sparkling water in the garage. she had a sewing room where she would teach us to make blankets and pillowcases with the fabric we picked out, and when my sister got older, she taught her to make vintage style dresses. she had a bedroom full of antiques belonging to our great-grandmother whom I had never met, and it somehow felt like the most familiar and most distant place in the world to me.
but then her dog died, and her old cockatiel died too, and one of our cats died. and over time we buried all the animals under one of the trees in her backyard- one I used to climb, but not as much as the other tree because it was so skinny. when my grandfather died when I was in high school, he was buried in a military cemetery where all you can leave are cut flowers and US flags, and my grandma got a certificate from the government after he died with Donald Trump’s signature printed on it because he was president then, and she always says it’s the ugliest signature she’s ever seen. his funeral was the very first time I saw a coffin. the old piano was beyond repair, so they took out all the musical bits and turned it into a desk that sits in our living room. the white paint covering the wood, its musical guts removed, the silence of the out-of-tune ancient keys that are no longer there makes it sound more like taxidermy than a piano. it plays john cage’s 4’33 in fortissimo whenever I pass it.
when my grandmother went to live in an assisted living community, she sold the house. she’s doing well now. she likes the place she lives in, she invites us over for holidays, she keeps active. but the house was completely remodeled and painted over. she said the tree I loved to climb in, the one my uncle climbed in when he was a kid, was chopped down. she says the house doesn’t look like it used to anymore. it’s unrecognizable. I could drive past it and never know. I probably have.
I wonder if the people who live there now know that in the big backyard that generations of people loved, no matter how much they’ve altered the house, there are the bones of two dogs and a cat and a cockatiel deep under the ground.
I wonder if they haunt it.

So something amazing has happened to me. Truly, really.
My mother has been saving for her 60th birthday for the last ten years. She was never sure what she wanted to do, or if she wanted to buy a brand new car, or take her and her boyfriend to Mexico, or whatever. Briefly, sh thought she wanted to go to the UK to go to Eurovision, but we couldn't get tickets, and I wrote it all off.
She comes to me. She says that she's thought about what she wanted to do, and she really would like to see the UK, specifically the Christmas Markets in the UK--despite her being Jewish--and so could I possibly plan a trip to the UK for December?
Yes, of course I can do that. I love to plan travel. I am the travel agent for my family, I have helped multiple friends plan trips, it brings me genuine joy.
It comes out that she doesn't want to take her boyfriend. She wants to take me.
I tell her I'm very flattered, but Jill and I blew our wad going to the UK for Verb and Cockatiel's wedding last year, which we turned into a whole honeymoon-we-never-had, and we'd saved quite awhile for that. I don't have the cash.
My mother is paying for both of us to go on a fucking luxury trip to the UK.
Obviously, I am screaming, but I do have to cover some expenses: ANything I need for the trip (an umbrella for starters), covering my bills (I am on it), and I want to pay for some things, but roughly this trip is only 20% of what it would normally cost me.
uhhhh so, things will be for sale soon!

Seeing cockatiels in the wild is so mind blowing to me in a good way. I've never seen them outside of captivity and while I know they live in the wild normally, my mind didn't really put 2 and 2 together until just then. Any more pictures of pet store birds living their best lives (aka in the wild)?
One of my hobbies is looking at wild parrots actually, it makes me happy to see them where they belong and in good health.
I will add more in a reblog.

I’m squishing your Sona gently, please, tell us more about them, if that’s not weird to ask
omg it's not weird at all!! in fact ive kind of been holding back on infodumping abt them because i feel like people wouldnt have much interest gfdjghdfg... but!!! i will gladly talk more about them if people are interested :D
(obligatory You Have Triggered an Unskippable Cutscene warning)
Tumblr media
here's my RD sona with colors! they're a lesbian and despite saying that she likes all of her patients equally, she has a very soft spot for the birds 💕 she has two cockatiels of her own, so she knows where they like to be scratched.
she has a tendency to be defensive of her coworkers, and usually has to rein herself in to avoid blowing up on someone if they are disrespectful to them (e.g. richard hugh, lucky in 5-2, edega's everything). even if she doesn't particularly like a patient, she does her best to do their procedure flawlessly, because she feels as someone who's classically trained in music she should be nailing all of these. she's still in the process of getting everything perfect.
she used to play in a youth orchestra as well! so she has a soft spot for low stringed instruments like cellos, even if she never played one before.
she also has a tendency to make inhuman noises if she's trying to perfect a procedure and makes mistakes. the hospital staff has learned that this is just normal. the staff recommends not worrying about it as she goes back to normal right after. (they have compared this behavior to the single scream cats make before going about their business.)
Tumblr media
overall she's very goofy. silly, even. i might draw more of her later... she's very fun.
