TBH as a writer appreciating the set-up of a character I ADORE Vivienne but her lack of proper character arc & the inability to argue with her more is as infuriating as with most of your companions in DAI, if not more when you play a Mage because you CAN’T grab her by the shoulders and shake her and say Ma’am if you’d had worse luck and wound up literally anywhere other than the Circle you did wind up at you would be a fundamentally different person please for Maker’s sake admit out loud that you only like the Circles because you managed to etch yourself some limited social power out of the broken and corrupt system you might not otherwise have been able to get for yourself and therefore you have not suffered the true effects of it!!!!
#not to mention real world issues with her being one of the VERY FEW important POC but I'm too white to discuss that well#just want it mentioned that I am aware of that#She's SO interesting I'm rotating her in my mind but I want to DRAG her to the fucking gallows circa pre-Hawke's rise to champiion!!!!!#I want to drag her to Kinloch and have her look the innocent children the Templars wanted to murder in the EYES#and tell them they deserve this for the crime of being born#She is SUCH a product of Chantry fearmongering and brainwashing it's so fascinating!!#Also the fact that her little story revolves around her lover and only her lover? bite bite bite maim kill BAD WRITERS >:(#/SHE/ should've got the Tranquil plot line. The realization that those people are lobotomized for profit and no actual REAL reasons#This is CANNON the Tranquil exist to FUND the circle and also because the chantry would rather fearmonger than teach to control magic#Like I don't expect her to pull a complete 180 on the Chantry and Circles but for fucks sake give me A LITTLE GROWTH PLEASE#She's the same bad bitch (affectionate) that she was in the beginning at the end! Just a little more politically powerful! It's SO BORING!#IDK. She could've been the divine that bans the practice of tranquility or something.#But bioware want us to forget the tranquil because they make their mage vs templar '''grey''' OBJECTIVELY AND CLEARLY NOT GREY#anyways the way DAI /WASTES/ its most interesting character concepts makes me SO mad and she's the biggest example imo#She & Sera PISS ME OFF with their wasted potential#tagging for my blog's sorting system not here to be a dick#dai#dragon age

Got a Lotta Lovin' to Do (A Scarf Universe Story) ❤️‍🔥
Okay, sooooo...this just came to me in a strange fit of inspiration this week. It's naughty but also a little sweet in concept. It may not be for everyone, so let's say it's currently canon adjacent for the Pink Scarf Universe...
This takes place a few months post A Pink Scarf Thanksgiving, in February of 1978. Yes, I know, we make it to '78 and there is something both heart wrenching but also wonderful in that, isn't there?
I wanted something that felt real but also a bit indulgent, and also wanted to bring our spitfire Sandy back into play. In fact, I made it from Sandy's perspective, which was a bit challenging considering the use of second person, but hopefully it makes sense!!
Premise is that Reader is in a fix, desperate to coax a very nervous Elvis back into her bed, and enlists her best friend Sandy to help in an unorthodox way.
Anyway, I'm a bit nervous about this one 😬 and am just sort of testing the waters as a preview, so let me know if you like it and want me to continue it! (Also, the turnaround was fast, so please excuse the semi-rough edit/revision! 🙏🏼)
xoxoxox, Madi 💗
Tumblr media
(listen, I know this pic is much earlier than '78, but the vibe is right and the hint of silver at his roots seems applicable and has me in a chokehold, so bear with me here...)
TW: sexy smutty stuff, heading towards a threesome (mff/fmf), mention of medical issues/trauma, sassy Sandy, silver fox Elvis!!🦊
Got a Lotta Lovin’ to Do
February 1978
“Darlin’, you sayin’ what I think you’re sayin’?” he asks you. Elvis’ eyebrow is halfway to his hairline and he sounds more incredulous than hopeful, but Sandy can see the twinkle in his eyes when they slide over to her. It’s more than a cursory glance, one filled with questions and a latent heat. She wrestles with the urge to fidget under his gaze, clenching and unclenching her fists instead of looking away from his scrutiny.
She’s certainly never been one to back down from a fight, not even with the enigma that is Elvis Presley.
Especially not with him, she thinks.
But Elvis has never looked at her like this before and even knowing him as long as she has, she isn’t unaffected. Despite everything he’s been through this past year, he still has the ability to level a woman with a look, she’ll give him that.
His eyes slide back over to you, and Sandy can breathe again. It’s gonna be a long night, she thinks, if a mere glance has her feeling so exposed.
You nod, biting your lip, and she knows how nervous you are, how desperate you are for this to work. She grabs your hand in solidarity and you squeeze it in return.
If it were anyone but you, she wouldn’t have agreed to this. It is much too messy, but extraordinary people and circumstances call for extraordinary measures, and being in Elvis’ world has always meant living in shades of gray.
Sandy knows she’s the only one you’ll trust with this. For as much shit as she gives Elvis, she loves and cares about you both deeply, more than she might voice in mixed company. And you know she understands why this is so important.
Now the two of you just need to convince Elvis of it, too. Though by the increasing level of tension in the room and the way he adjusts himself in his seat, Sandy doesn’t think it’ll take much persuading.
He cuts quite the figure, sitting there in the plush, golden, velvet chair with his bejeweled fingers tapping a slow and steady rhythm out on the arms. After what happened last summer, he’d finally let his hair grow out to its natural color, the salt-and-pepper combined with glinting silvery streaks. It’s incredibly striking, giving him an even more handsome and regal air than before, if that’s possible. With his new post-recovery regime, he is looking good and, according to you, feeling healthier than he had in years. The result is attractive, to say the least.
But while that side of things improved, the sexual piece apparently has not.
Sandy and you perch on the edge of the bed, sitting so close you are pressed against each other, facing him, waiting for his verdict. Elvis takes in the two of you closely before sliding his eyes back over to her.
“And you, Sandra? You agreed to this?” His voice is laden with curiosity and surprise. She doesn’t blame him.
“Yes, with conditions,” she says, willing her voice to stay steady and calm when she’s feeling anything but.
He chuckles darkly. “Of course. I’d expect nothin’ less from you, honey.”
The endearment, one he’s used with her a million times over the years, now comes out laden and warm, sliding through her veins like liquid heat. She’s not sure how she feels about it, to be honest, but it’s a little late to turn back now.
Sandy looks at you for permission to continue. You nod.
“Okay, first, this is a one-time deal,” she begins, forcing herself to look him straight in those endlessly blue eyes.
His lips curve up with the beginning of a smirk and it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know what he’s thinking. She thinks it’s funny how he’s posturing, considering the whole reason she is here is to help bolster his confidence, but she supposes over twenty years of adoration from females makes his response a habit.
Honestly, it’s the stipulation she’s the least worried about, it being there more for your sake than hers, and it gives you all an out if this goes south. But boundaries are good for Elvis. So she quirks a brow back at him until he nods.
“Second, no one hears about this. It’s a nonstarter. No bragging to the guys, ever. No one outside this room can ever know…especially not Jerry.”
This is the one she is most worried about. While her marriage to Jerry ended over half a decade ago, on relatively decent terms considering the circumstances, she knows this would cut Jer to the core, and that is not why she’s here. Jerry isn’t in Elvis’ employ anymore, but they are still good friends, brothers even, and she doesn’t want to ruin their relationship.
A cloud of seriousness falls over Elvis’ face, banishing his earlier mirth, and that lets her know they are on the same page with this one, despite his terrible track record of secret keeping. “Done,” he says with finality.
“Good. Third, I reserve the right to bow out at any time,” she adds.
“Honey, I’d never force you to do somethin’ you din’t want to do. Ain’t never been like that and ain’t startin’ now,” he says with surprising gentleness.
She nods, expecting as much. Taking a deep breath, she pauses before the last request, mainly because she can’t believe she’s actually saying it out loud. Might as well just get it done.
“Finally, your dick stays out of my pussy.”
He chuckles at your frankness while you choke, coughing wildly—she hadn’t warned you about this one. It’s more the principle of the thing, really. She is along for the ride, sure, but in the end, she’s mostly here for your wellbeing. And by the way he looks at Sandy with something akin to respect and nods as she rubs his wife’s back, she knows he understands.
You eventually recover from Sandy’s bluntness, turning your attention back to your husband with a hopeful look in your eyes. “So, is this…I mean…do you want to do this, baby?”
For the first time, you see his trepidation, his overwhelm of the situation only barely covered by his mask of humor. This is what you’d been talking about, this reluctance and lack of self-assurance. When you’d come to her about the fact that Elvis hadn’t been intimate with you since the medical crisis that nearly killed him, it made perfect sense. Not only had he gone through something terrifying, but his surgeries also changed his body in ways that must have been uncomfortable. Coupled with extensive recovery and weaning off old medications and starting new ones, it was a recipe for disaster in the bedroom.
Sandy knew you had to be desperate for you to ask her for this kind of help. You knew it wasn’t because Elvis found you unattractive or didn’t love you anymore—he was afraid he couldn’t perform, afraid he couldn’t satisfy you, and you were afraid you’d hurt him somehow. It was obvious your sex life had been amazing in the past, though according to you, it had dwindled the sicker and more in denial about things he’d gotten. But for you to invite her into the bedroom to put the spark back in their marriage wasn’t something Sandy had expected.
Apparently, Elvis loved some girl-on-girl threesome action and had indulged in such things back before you and he had finally gotten together. You were never entirely comfortable with the idea when Elvis brought it up in the past—the idea of sharing him didn’t sit well and knowing Elvis, he’d make some poor woman fall in love with him or someone would talk and you’d be in a fix, so the idea had been nixed before it could take root.
But now you were frantic and willing to try almost anything, which apparently included asking your best friend to fool around with you and your husband.
It’s a matter of trust, you’d said, twiddling your fingers uncomfortably in Sandy’s kitchen, tears pooled in your eyes. You knew she’d never talk, knew she’d never betray you, and most importantly, knew she could separate sex from emotion and would never fall in love with your husband.
It was all true. How could she say no to you when you needed her help so badly? So, here she was, apprehensive but intrigued, waiting for Elvis to decide all of your fates.
“You can just watch, baby, if you want to, or whatever, it’s fine,” you encourage him when he seems frozen and unable to respond. Sandy can see you both floundering in indecision and fear and can’t stand it anymore. She’s never been one for patience or inaction, after all, so without further ado, she silences your pleas for your husband’s attention with her lips.
“Oh!” you exclaim in quiet surprise against her mouth, your hands flailing a bit in resistance.
Talking about something like this and doing it are two different things, Sandy knows, but she persists, kissing you gently, hands cupping your cheeks, until you relax enough to kiss her back. She can’t help but feel a little gratification when you sigh softly and yield to her, your hands flitting to the curve of her hips.
It would be stupid to say she didn’t find both you and Elvis attractive, but never in her wildest dreams had it been in the cards to have either of you, so she’d never dwelled much on it. But now, feeling the weight of his gaze as she laps her tongue between your lips, testing your willingness to do this, her body lights on fire.
She pushes through the foreign feeling of being watched so intimately, knowing this is just as much about putting on a good show than anything else, but she didn’t expect it to be quite so tantalizing. Something about being the one to take charge sends a thrill down her spine. Dragging her lips down your neck to your collarbone, she knows she’s not imagining the rapid fluttering of your pulse under her lips or the way you lean back to give her more access.
You’ve never been with a woman, but she knows it’s been a long time since you’ve had attention of this sort from your man, either so when Sandy trails her fingers down over your breast, she feels the jolt go through you. Her moves are deliberate but slow, allowing you to acclimate, allowing Elvis to take in every movement.
She can’t help the warmth pooling in her belly when she palms the heaviness of your breast, pinching your clothed nipple and you gasp, arching into her with genuine willingness.
“Lord have mercy,” Elvis huffs quietly, and you both know you have him.
It’s much too easy, then, to unbutton your blouse, exposing the white lace bra underneath before pulling hers up over her head to reveal her own. You’d been clear about the white—apparently he gets all kinds of excited about little white underthings—and far be it for her to ignore such a titillating detail.
Sandy takes it upon herself to continue the play, pressing her lips to the soft skin of your décolletage, following the soft rise of your breasts before nuzzling and nipping at the dusky areola peek-a-booing through the lace. Mewling and pawing at her head, you are strung so tight Sandy thinks you’re not acting in the least.
It’s a little strange, this softness of your curves against her own, but pleasant. Moreover is the deep satisfaction in her belly at drawing little whimpers out of you as she kisses and reveals more of your skin. Even more surprising is the gratification of bringing something out of both you and your husband that has been out of reach for much too long.
Your fingers cart through her hair, manicured nails tickling her scalp in a way that makes her vibrate. She arches at the contact and looks up at you with a coy smile, sliding a hand up your smooth leg and under the hem of your skirt.
Elvis clears his throat, interrupting them. “Be good lil’ girls f’me and s-strip down to your panties,” he says in a gravelly voice Sandy has never been privy to hearing. A shiver runs down her spine, melting and churning with all the new feelings the evening is bringing. His tone is halfway between a need and a command and neither of you need to be asked twice.
Her inhibitions fall to the floor in a heap along with pants and skirts and bras. Never once in her life did she expect to feel Elvis’ heavy, heated gaze turned on her nearly naked form but now that it’s happening, she can’t help but squirm a little. She has nothing to prove and is usually confident in her skin, but she’s certainly not a young woman anymore, her body soft and curvy with the changes age brings. Her only consolation is at least the three of you are in relatively the same boat in that regard.
Sneaking a glance at Elvis, she is bit relieved to find his examination admiring rather than turned off. Though, considering he has two naked women ready to do his bidding, it seems the natural response.
“Don’t be shy, Satnin. I’m sure Sandra won’t bite toohard if you touch her,” he muses, those bedroom eyes of his flickering with lust. You giggle nervously and then look to Sandy for permission, which she gives with a nod and a reassuring smile.
Your caress is timid at first, then more exploratory of her body than she expects. Maybe it’s the resounding hum of encouragement from your husband giving you more confidence or just pure sexual energy and curiosity, but whatever it is has Sandy feeling delightful. A tweak of a nipple here. A soft tongue there. Hands and mouths finding a rhythm of pleasure.
Sandy palms your bottom, running her fingertips down along the seam of your white underwear, when Elvis cuts in, his voice thick with desire:
“Play with her an’ make her feel good, Sandra.”
Tingles erupt over her skin. She follows orders, sliding her hand down into your panties and through your soft curls until she reaches your hooded clit. She rubs gently, like she would do to herself, and you gasp in her mouth, body bowing to get more friction.
After a few moments, the unmistakable sound of a zipper clicks through the air. Her body suddenly burns with the scandalous nature of it all, and her excitement surprises her.
“Is she wet?” he asks Sandy.
Sliding her fingers down, she can feel the slick of your arousal on her fingertips.
“Yes,” she says unabashedly.
A pause.
“Are you?” His voice is low and dripping with honey.
A pulse of heat starts throbbing in her core, and for the first time tonight, she stumbles over her words, suddenly breathless. “I…I think so?”
“Honey, see if you’re makin’ Sandra excited,” he commands you, then with humor adds, “She apparently doesn’t know.”
Sandy throws a glare Elvis’ way but then your fingers are cold against the blazing heat of her muff, a sensation which makes her jump as you glide your fingers over sensitive, slick skin.
“She’s soaked,” you relay demurely, and all at once Sandy feels like the tables have turned in this little tableau.
“Show me. Both of you.”
His demand makes her stomach drop, like she’s on a roller coaster.
She feels disappointed when you pull your hand away, and the sentiment feels mutual. Both of you display your shining fingers in the dim light.
Elvis crooks his finger and beckons you both closer.
There’s no helping the curious way her eyes drift down and land on his dusky pink cock, the head peeking out from his foreskin, dripping and standing at full attention now he’s been released from the confines of his black pants. Sandy’s mouth goes dry when she realizes just how much nature has blessed him in ways other than his talent.
Is it wrong that she wants to touch it, to feel the heavy heat of him in her palm? To make him shudder underneath her touch? Perhaps so. The itch to torture him with her body just a little for every cunning remark and every dumbass selfish move he’s made in the last 15 years is strong and it makes her tingle just to think of.
He must read the look on her face because his eyes go a bit wide with something unreadable before narrowing with laser focus.
Her heart starts thudding against her ribcage, all the blood rushing out of her head when he wraps his large hand around her wrist, dwarfing it, and pulls her between his spread muscular thighs. Then he draws those glistening fingers of hers right into his mouth.
She gasps. Every nerve in her body is set alight with fireworks as he sucks her fingers clean of his wife’s arousal, his tongue warm and soft and oh-so thorough.
It’s her whimpering now as he pins her with his flaming eyes. Her breath catches. His mouth pops off her digits.
“Mmm…sweet as a sundae. You’ll see, Sandra Dee.” A slow, sly grin spreads across his handsome face as he releases her wrist.
Being on the other end of that devastating smile, especially in a situation like this, has her trembling. It pisses her off a little, actually, that he’s having this effect, and by the glint in his eye, he knows it.
Like he’s saying, Game on.
Then, he looks to you, pulling you close. His mischievousness softens slightly. Sandy is glad to see under the red flush of pleasure on your cheeks there is also a look of relief on your face, as if you are thinking, “Oh, thank heavens, it’s working.”
Sandy steps back, happy to give the couple space, but Elvis’ hand shoots out, latching onto her arm.
“Nuh uh, now where d’ya think you’re goin’?” It’s husky and playful but also fraught with an undercurrent of tension, as though he’s not quite ready and maybe a little nervous about being alone with his wife. He keeps his hand on her arm but turns his attention to you.
“Haven’t sampled another pussy in a loooong time, lil’ mama,” he drawls up at you, “Ya sure you wanna give daddy a taste?” His brow quirks, asking for permission, making sure you’re still comfortable with this arrangement you’ve surprised him with. The words are confident, but Sandy can hear the gravity behind them.
You nod encouragingly. “Yes.”
“Mm’kay then,” and then he sucks your fingers right into his mouth.
Sandy can’t help but blush wildly as she watches him savor her off his wife’s hand. And it’s positively obscene the way he opens his eyes and stares into hers brazenly as he does it.
Never has she felt quite so exposed. Arousal swirls in her core, betraying all her sensibilities.
Elvis runs his tongue under his upper lip after he’s done, where he lets it peek out at the corner of his mouth with a smirk. “Now ain’t that jus’ the cherry on top,” he purrs, eyes sparkling.
Sandy hates how she goes a bit weak in the knees at that. God, this man infuriates her, always has in that loving way of his, but this is a whole different level of understanding and intimacy she’s not accustomed to with him.
But whether she likes it or not, her body is absolutely buzzing with anticipation for the both of you, as evidenced by the way she clenches her thighs and the way her panties get just a little bit more ruined.
The motion doesn’t go unnoticed by Elvis, and his gaze darkens.
Oh, it’s gonna be a long night, alright.
A long night, indeed.

I'd love to hear what fundamental issues you have with spiderverse... 🎤
Hm I'm just gonna rattle off a few from most to least important before I forget (note: some of my issues with spiderverse are less about the concepts or characters themselves but more about how the writers or producers chose to handle them, or even just exploring the possibilities of what could've been. I still think it's a really excellent movie and complex story.)
If you're someone that skims through longer paragraphs a lot, I've also put my most important points in italics so that you get the gist of what I'm saying :)
Making Miles' story about everyone else but Miles. I understand that Miles' whole thing in Spiderverse is that by defying the odds, he inspires the people around him. But there's a certain point where the story become *about that* and the other characters more than him and his interiority. In its efforts to focus on his growing into the mantle of Spider-Man, the films only kind of allude to the fact that he has a life outside of the mask. His mental health and relationship to his community are pushed to the wayside so much that even Ganke is only on-screen for a few minutes at most.
(This is a long one sorry) Spiderverse as a movie doesn't seem to know for sure whether it likes cops or not. It presents the literal police and policing as a concept as something that is inherently neutral, likening it to the mantle of Spider-Man where they simply have power that they have to use responsibly, and that there are just "bad apples". But the way that Spider-Society operates quite closely parallels how policing and criminality work: you have a bunch of spiders go out and detain people and send them where they're "supposed to be" under the guise that a) the order of things will essentially fall apart if you don't, and b) there is a specific way that your story is supposed to go, and you should be willing to sacrifice lives to maintain that status quo. There's also the categorization of those who break those rules as an Other (anomalies), and the fact that Spider Society reacts to the presence of the anomalies instead of addressing the thing that created them (the collider. HELLOOOO). With all that being said, Miguel and the rest of Spider Society are clearly framed as anatgonistic forces by the film and even has a punk anarchist character calling them out and being right about it. The movies simultaneously critique policing metaphorically through Spider Society while trying to justify it in the real world.
Girl where is Pavitr. His character is literally perfect for Miles to interact with, but we don't see him again until the very last scene. Same thing with...literally everyone we just met. The movie is over two hours long, where did all that time go--OH WAIT
Gwen and the scene with her dad take up wayyyy too much of the movie's runtime, I'm sorry. We spent the entirety of the beginning of the film learning information about Gwen and her dad that could've been quickly conveyed in much less time. Not to mention that, apparently, Mr. Stacy literally gets fired in the comics for letting Gwen go, so that whole plotline didn't even need to happen. Why change that? To say he's a 'good cop' that does his job? The trauma of losing Peter would've been present in her story either way.
The art style. No, this doesn't mean what you think it does. I do not have an issue with the 3D and 2D hybrid style of animation obviously. Spiderverse has literally revolutionized the field, but there are some limitations to it that were made especially clear once TMNT:MM came out. You may or may not have noticed, but isn't almost everyone in Spiderverse...kinda gorgeous? Hear me out here. Someone has pointed this out before me, and it really changed the way that I look at aesthetics in animation. In Spiderverse, everything from the environments to the way that things are shaded and colored is extremely stylized and pushed quite far...until you get to the main characters. Yes, there is diversity in features the likes of which we haven't seen 'till recently, but I'm purely talking about the style in which they're drawn. Compared to everything else, they look closer to something Disney or Pixar might produce. This is not inherently problematic or "bad", but I do wonder how much cooler and cutting-edge and comic-y we could get if it wasn't so pre-occupied with beauty. You can disregard this one, it's just a thought. Apparently the idea that not every cartoon character you see on the big screen has to be hot makes people very angry.
I think those are all the big ones. I'll reblog with new additions if for some reason I come up with new things to complain about lmao

I'll start over lol, legacy naming can be fine if done well but i don't think it has. Hollytuft + Sibs appeared to us as adults so we don't get to know about them. Cinderheart was cute until we had the whole "shes actually cinderpelt lmao" moment. The two Mouses and Leafs just had no excuse to be there. And if I was Ivypool and my kid died I would NOT want some random cat immediately naming their daughter after her. Isn't that kind of traumatizing? I got rid of all legacy namings that occur -
in cats younger than Holly in my AVOS/TBC allegiances and in my rewriting exercise I'm making Sparkpaw just be really obsessed with being Firestar's kin so her eventual naming of Flamekit makes a bit more sense. At least I can excuse 4 Robinwings to the Erin's forgetting they all existing(not a valid excuse tho imo), having two Frecklewishes is just insane. Was literally nothing else an option? Frecklesong, Freckletuft, Frecklemint? I've also noticed stuff from the beginning like having a semi - prominent Ashfur in Into The Wild's ShadowClan then immediately having Ashkit/(fur) in Fire and Ice's ThunderClan. At the very least, literary-wise, it feels like too much repeating too quickly. I'm not against two Bobs existing at the same time but still…I've actually put down a good fic because they named literally everyone in TC after a dead cat and I got annoyed lol. Names were like, Ferndust Bluestorm Frostheart etc
TV Tropes has a trope relevant to this: One-Steve Limit. While it's very common for people to share names in the real world, in fiction it's avoided to make things easier on your readers/viewers and prevent repetitiveness. The point of not sharing names is for each character to stand out on their own; often when there are multiples of one name (for example, Heather in "Heathers"), there's a reason to it, usually to mock the hivemind-nature of the characters or establish a theme of putting people in boxes they can't escape from (such as in Steven Universe where every gem of one type shares the same name and remains stuck in one role for their entire existence).
In the case of Warriors, I feel that "rule" rings truest. To be entirely fair to the writers, they have hundreds of characters to name, most of them never even showing up in the books beyond being mentioned in the allegiances. A prefix or suffix is going to appear multiple times - that's just unavoidable, especially if you have rules in place for what names are allowed that limits your options. I can't blame them for that issue coming up a few times accidentally.
What I can blame them for is deliberately using names that have important characters attached to them barely a generation later. In a setting where you have to keep track of every name, even as a reader, it's going to cause nothing but trouble if Greystripe dies and in the next book there's a Greykit in the very same Clan. It creates a constant stream of Grey-, which can accidentally confuse readers, or at the very least trip them up for a few seconds - something you DO NOT want in a story, especially one aimed at kids, where things need to be clear and concise.

What about My Pride? The uh YouTube series, I think the writer was problematic somehow but that might be a thing to mention and also I’d like to see your thoughts
It's on the list! My shorter, more concise thoughts are that while I appreciate it as very much a labor of love with some talented artists and voice actors on the team, the actual story and writing is disappointing, tone deaf, and downright infuriating at times.
I guess rattling off my issues (spoilers included):
I found the central handling of disability and Nothing's character to be poorly thought out. Needing multiple abled bodied characters to get her moving, it feels like there was little research done in trying to depict a character like her.
I hate that her name stays as "Nothing" and that an abled bodied lion lectures her about accepting it. Terribly thought out scene. I'm a she should've changed her name to Everything truther.
The central gay lion romance that the series is based off is pretty poorly written with very few sprinkles of endearing and fun moments between them unfortunately. Hover is...mean? She's a terrible partner and I was genuinely upset that her not sticking up for her girlfriend all because she missed idk a lion recital (something Hover?? canonically should not give a shit about???) was scummy. it would be one thing if Hover was meant to be in the wrong...but she's not depicted as that?
The two spend so much time apart, you start to get kind of annoyed at how much gay lions were part of the marketing and then the gay lions! weren't there!!
Didn't care for it!!
I actually liked the world and premise. I enjoy unfair and cruel societies, I like the idea of someone working to change the system (though I very rarely see the execution of that I like, very rarely will stories depict the actual necessary actions for confronting a society like this: tearing it down entirely and building something better).
I hate Feather. Them pulling their punch and not killing him was lame.
Nothing's brother being the twist villain should have been set up better, it doesn't hit the same way it could have had the series planted the seeds earlier on. We have no reason to understand why he would act this way, he was doing just fine better? Why not set up tensions when we meet the group of young male lions?
I don't like that the only real importance Nothing holds isn't because of something about her in the present, but the importance of her able bodied past life. Her ending with her wanting to die is...bleak because I don't believe she has recognized her own worth.
Poor handling of abuse. I disagree with the notion that trying to give depth to abusers is in itself apologia, but the show is trying to like....idk how to say this properly but it wants to "both sides" Nothing's mother's treatment of her, ya know? I found it really icky.
Uh I think I could say more but you'd have to give me a specific topic to bite onto or I'll keep meandering lol but I didn't care for the show but I do feel for fans of the show who are stuck on a cliffhanger. I hope the creator releases the rest of the story plan at the very least.

Rewatched Princess and the Frog tonight: it’s got some GREAT moments, but it’s overall just fine. (With a few glaring issues but . Yeah 💚)
Tumblr media
Ok first off the visuals are really great. I’m still sad Disney basically destroyed their 2D animation department after this movie. And also Pooh but whatever. The characters are so expressive and it’s really cool :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I especially liked this style change during one of the songs :] it was unique!
Very beautiful visually and it focuses on being extravagant and fun! Which yknow sometimes you need something like that. But it’s also really really. Really surface level and sanitized 1920s New Orleans. Cuz like yeah it’s a Disney movie- they obviously care more about making it child appropriate than time period accurate
It had this whole ‘it doesn’t matter if you’re Black or white we’re all equal!’ thing going on and?? Pretending racism doesn’t exist outside of MAYBE TWO LINES is kind of fucked especially when your movie discusses class differences with rich Prince Naveen (who is from a made up country also) and working class Tiana. This is definitely an issue they could’ve dove more into but they were like. “Nooooo only a few white guys landlords are bad and rude... The black guy chef was also mean to her !” THATS VERY STRANGE. STOP PRETENDING LIKE ITS A “BOTH SIDES CAUSE THE PROBLEM” ISSUE GUHHHHHHHH
Tumblr media
Not to mention Tiana is an absolute workaholic and they never really explicitly denounce that as a bad thing. Like sure Naveen is like "maybe you should chill out more" but she was working TWO JOBS AT ONCE, BARELY SLEEPS, and almost NEVER spends time for herself 😭 And it doesn't affect her performance at all?? Maybe Shes Just Awesome But IDK. They frame it as "shes such a hard worker! and if you work hard, everything will turn out ok!" which is a nice sentiment but not realistic. It being a kids movie doesnt make it exempt from criticsm cuz little kids watching it might get the expectation that working yourself to the bone is normal, when in reality that can be really dangerous. Basically Tiana Deserves A Fuckign Break
Tumblr media
Anyways im dissing this movie way too much LOL. It does a lot right but I'm only focusing on the issues </3 I really admire Tiana's perseverance despite being overworked as Fuck and her ability to refocus on what's important to her, that being her family and her restaurant. ❤️ Also the whole ‘turning black person into cute marketable creature” trope thing unfortunately tries to push that issue away even further. So basically this movie follows a lot of bad tropes and the 2nd half when they become frogs slows the movie down quite a bit. Not that it was bad, it was just a different direction that was Arguably Less Interesting. although it gets points for being furry media (technically) I will not deny that.
this movie is 20% about a working class black woman facing adversity and 80% about frog romance. sorry
Tumblr media Tumblr media
woaht the fuck theres4 of them
Best character alert?!?!!⚠️⚠️⚠️ Like yeah obviously it’s Dr Facilier he sort of carries the whole movie. EASILY the best musical number of the whole film and Friends on the Other Side is one of the best Disney villain songs PERIOD!!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(THIS MIDDLE GIF IS FUCKIJG INSANE.)
Tumblr media
You can tell they had so much fucking fun making this scene and I love that so much 💚💜
Sentient evil shadow that can interact with the real world?? Cool as FUCK. Shady deals with the shadow realm that inevitably turn against him?? SIGN ME THE FUCK UP!!!!!! WHAT A COOL DEATH… Although there is the fact his black magic is a wide & inaccurate mishmash of different cultural practices to make him appear more Spooky and Evil TM. Is he good representation ? Who am I to say. People love him anyways.
(Maybe it was done that way to make him appear like a ‘Jack of all trades’ or like he’s dabbling in multiple practices when he’s not supposed to, getting him in dangerous business with the “shadow realm.” But that still doesn’t justify it)
Very petty complaint but i was watching this together with my friend who does tarot. As far as I know, NONE of his tarot cards Make Real Sense or have any correlating meaning with what number they are (except for The Tower, which was when he said Naveen’s funds were low.) it’s not like the average audience member knows tarot, but would’ve been cool if they went that extra mile :’)
Tumblr media
Louis was perfect and I have no complaints. Just a big goofy guy AND he’s so talented ! 2nd best character easily
Ok. OKAY FINE I ended up liking Ray more than I expected. [BOOOOOOOOOOO] HEY. I’m just saying He was a happy little fellow. I might be stupid. I don’t think he ever Caused Problems for the main cast which would’ve made him more annoying . But also how wasn’t he Squashed to a pulp LOL. YOU LITERALLY HEAR HIM SQUISH … THEY SHOULDVE HAD A SHOT WITH HIS GUTS EVERYWGERE ON THE PAVEMENT !!!!!! 🙄 I was not attached to him but I didn’t hate him.
Tumblr media
(Gif of him dying infintely anyways)
ALSO bro selfships with a star. And after death him becoming the star next to it … 🥺IM SO EASY.
Those 3 slapstick frog hunters were an absolutely useless threat. Facilier’s shadows were JUST established to be after them and that was enough of a threat!! The hunters ONLY existed for cheap comic relief and for Naveen and Tiana to bond and become heterosexual frogs 💔 WORST CHARACTERS !!!!!!!!!! I HATE CHILDREN’S MOVIES !!!!!!!!!
Naveen kind of sucks but at least he learned how to suck less through mincing mushrooms <3 yeah that’s called a character arc 😲’if I can learn how to mince you can learn how to dance’ IT WAS SORT OF CUTEE OK.
Tumblr media
Ok I’m getting tired. Bird critique: when they arrived in the bayou for the first time they played Laughing Kookaburra calls. No offense but I dont think this native Australian bird belongs in southern Louisiana and It’s Actually Quite Lost
Anyways the movie is FINE. I probably wouldn’t rewatch it but Dr Facilier is awesome Also i watched this video and i liked it teehee

Can you do a fic where the bat kid just has a full mental breakdown because of what happened to Cassie and they miss there bff
I decided to make it a bit short because I don’t wanna entail too much on the Cassie situation (I lowkey think it's because i’ve never learned to cope properly, or I do it too fast lol) Hope you like it! Don't forget to comment and reblog!
*IMPORTANT NOTE: Must read previous fic "Becoming" to understand plot points*
SPECIAL NOTE: all of my child fics/daughter/son/sibling fics will be with an adopted reader and not a biological one. Biological would mean that half of these parents/couples would be mixed, so no I won’t be doing biological. Especially when it comes to predominantly white characters.
pairing(s): Batfam x Child!Reader
warning(s): mention of sensitive issues, mentions of possibly unhealthy coping methods, ANGST, tis sad
word count: 1.5k
Tumblr media
You never coped with death before.
As far as you could remember, you have never had to deal with the loss of someone. Having no clue of biological parents or relations amongst the early stages of your childhood, there was never an experience at hand.
You'd jump throughout various orphanages so much until Bruce/Batman came along and turned your world upside down.
Before you were never one to keep close friends. Why bother? It’s not like they’d last long.
That idea completely changed after meeting Cassie.
When you were placed in the same room as her that night, she didn’t shy away from you. She was very keen on making friends, despite your stubbornness at first.
It wasn’t out of spite for her at all, you had just been so used to pushing aside people due to no real experience in establishing friendships amongst previous peers.
When you eventually got settled that night, Cassie seemed to miss the mark on your notions of sleeping. “Psst!” She called out, tucked under her covers but still up and awake.
Your brows furrowed, eyes closed with no intention to open them. Maybe if you didn’t answer she’d get the hint.
“Hey!” the voice yelled in their whisper a little louder. Sucking in a breath, you turned your back to the girl. Just ignore it (Y/N).
“I know you’re awake. C’mon! Talk to me.”
Jesus fuck, did this girl not know how to take a hint? Pulling the covers up to your nose, some shuffling was heard followed by silence after. Good.
Yelping, there was a harsh dip on the bed. Eyes flying open, you looked around to find the culprit. Glaring, low and behold there was Cassie laying down beside.
The teenager smiled, “I wonder…” she seemed to ignore the harsh scowl directed towards her.
“The fuck! Why are you on my bed?!”  you demanded an answer. But she continued rambling off til you retaliated with a kick to the ankle.
“Ow!” Cassie reached down to soothe the oncoming bruise. “The fuck was that for?”
“What do you mean? Asked why you came over my bed! I’m trying to sleep!”
“Well maybe I wouldn’t have to if you talked to me in the first place.” Cassie retorted back with a smug look spread across her face. Your intrusive thoughts were demanding to kick her onto the floor, but went against it.
Groaning, you threw the covers off and made your way to the desk between the two beds. Falling onto the chair, you leaned back while glaring at the culprit now alone on the mattress. “We're only gonna talk for five minutes, then I'm going back to sleep.”
Cassie smiled, sitting up straight. “I’ll take that!” she stated before beginning her ramble.
Needless to say, the five minute talk ended up being over two hours. It was strange how quickly you grew to befriend the teenager in the span of 6 months.
The caretakers were surprised to see you more befriending towards the other kids a few weeks after. It soon became obvious where the shift in attitude had come from. More or so, who had caused the shift in tone.
You had become closer with Cassie as the days grew by. She explained her life throughout the years, and she was experiencing her teen years. Listening to her ongoing story made you realize how alone the two of you truly were.
But she rest assured you; “Don’t worry!” she’d say, “We’ll take care of eachother from now on, and in the future too!” She almost felt like a sister after. She began to feel like the sister you never grew to have.
It’s crazy how that was all stripped away when Bruce Wayne adopted you. The idea still engraved into the back of your head suddenly felt more and more bleak.
You and Cassie weren’t together anymore.
The chances of taking care of one another became more and more bleak. It made you feel guilty. Maybe if you had told Bruce to take her in as well…then things could be different. You could feel tranquil. You would feel complete, knowing that you had Cassie by your side.
But that didn’t happen. You didn’t speak to Bruce or your family about it. You went without protest. And now here you remained in the Wayne manor, a letter addressed to you from the orphanage addressing Cassie’s death.
‘It’s crazy’ you told yourself as you mourned for her. As you sobbed uncontrollably when you first discovered, there was a voice in the back of your head that wanted to come forward.
It terrified you. It was hard to push it back, not allowing it to come forward, because you already knew Cassie wouldn't want you to blame yourself. Yet the barrier was broken and soon the repeated chants kept stabbing at you.
It’s all your fault.
It’s all your damn fault.
Why didn’t you say anything before?
Why didn’t you tell Bruce to take Cass with you? Because of you she’s dea-
Any attempts to block them were pointless at this point. You tried so hard but couldn’t help giving in. They’re right. They had a point. Why didn’t you speak up sooner?
The voices kept chanting louder and louder, it was getting hard to breathe. You couldn’t even figure out what to do. What could you do at a time like this? Your instincts responded for you.
You ran. It seemed like the easiest option right now.
It was a good thing Dick caught up. Otherwise who knows where you would’ve ended.
While hugging your adoptive brother, you couldn’t help looking up at Bruce. How did he react to this? He’s an adult, so he should already know by now.
Maybe he’d provide some answer.
However upon landing on his features, you grew fearful when you realized even he didn’t know how to react.
Bruce simply stared back, bothered and unsure.
-
You’d figure it would be easier after the funeral. Turns out that would be a lie. It only grew worse. After you discovered the murderers of your friend, things went blank.
It was Damian who had helped you with the aftermath of it all.
The betrayal of Tamika was the cherry on top to the entire catastrophe. You hated every single second of it. There were so many mixed emotions running through the entirety of your mind.
Not a single one was invited or welcome, yet they seemed to overtake your space easily.
You thought there'd be some satisfaction in brutally massacring Tamika and Markus, and luckily it was there. Knowing they wouldn't be able to cause pain anymore had brought some reassurance. So there was that at least.
If only you hadn’t known them. Then you wouldn’t be dealing with the feeling of betrayal right now. It wouldn’t hurt as much.
The one thing that kept bothering, the thing that kept furious at yourself, was the pain you felt after committing a gruesome painting.
You despised how you felt pain; you were feeling guilty at Tamika.
Grasping at the sides of your head, it took everything within you to not bash your head against the corner of a shelf. You felt like hurting yourself at the thought of feeling an ounce of sympathy for the same staff worker.
Just…why? Of all people, why did it have to be her? What did you do to Tamika…What did Cassie do to Tamika? There were so many questions left unanswered, and they’d remain that way forever.
In the midst of it all, there would be a blank space from now on.
Sliding down the wall of your room, you pulled your knees up to your chest. Staring blankly at the window.
You wondered around what time Damian would come home. What he would order next. Maybe tomorrow he’d make you confess your crimes to Bruce and the family. Maybe it’d be thrown under the rug.
Maybe the police would arrive tomorrow—
You could feel the emotions ready to rush out, and you didn’t want them to.
But the distractions didn’t seem to help take your mind off things. “Please…” you begged no one, trying to stifle the upcoming hiccups.
Feeling it slowly creep up, your body grew more and more shaky. The jolts were uncontrollable at this point. Lifting yourself up from the floor, you grabbed at one of the pillows on the bed, and hugged it close.
Letting out a sob, you bit into the pillow to muffle the sound. After prevailing so, the sobs grew louder, leading to stuffing your entire face into the cushion. The last thing you needed was anyone coming in asking if you were ok.
The reality was that no. No you weren’t okay.
The one person you considered your dearest friend was murdered by the hands of someone you almost trusted with all your well-being.
No amount of comfort would feel helpful right now. Being alone was the best option at the moment. It was the only way you knew how to cope with the recent murder of Cassie.
Was it the best option? Who knows; you never coped with death before.
Tumblr media
I'm very sorry if it sucks I tried :) I've also been gone for a while. Let's just say because of health and work. Mainly work lol.

Took the liberty of P3R releasing to create a tier list based on each SEES/Shadow Operative member’s opinion of Teddie. To prove some guy on Reddit wrong who said Mitsuru actively dislikes Teddie. No one actively dislikes/hates him. Lowest tier is awkward co-existence.
Most opinions based on Arena.
Tumblr media
Tier 1: Teddie Fans
Here we have Aigis and special guest Labrys. Fellow non-humans stick together! They all have a strong understanding of each other. Only members that would actively text him and want to hang out. Would defend each other no matter what. They each know Teddie would take hits for them and would do the same. Squad!
Tier 2: Beary Good Friends
Junpei, Fuuka, and Koromaru
Junpei is such a fun bro they would definitely get up to shenanigans after he got used to Teddie’s inherent strangeness. Teddie teases and messes with him sometimes. Junpei sealed his fate after opening a door when Teddie told him to. Bro has been dubbed an easy target to mischief.
Fuuka is a sweet cinnamon roll. Would find all of Teddie’s energy to be overwhelming at first but then consider it endearing. Sweet boy and sweet girl. Teddie can take her on fun adventures. She will mom-friend him so much.
Mascot Wars is a curse Teddie inflicted on himself. Meanwhile Koromaru enjoys his company and interprets their one-sided rivalry and competitions as a game. Would save him from danger.
Tier 3: “Well, Teddie, you are an odd fellow. But I must say you steam a good ham”
A tier for mature individuals. Here we have Akihiko, Mitsuru, and Ken
Akihiko, more accurately, would float somewhere between tier 2 and 3 depending on how much he’s able to interact with Teddie. He’s one of the few guys Teddie gives a nickname to so the bear does enjoy his company even if they find each other to be odd. That irony is funny to me. Teddie clings to the bits of social awkwardness Akihiko has left and playfully makes fun of some of his choices. Meanwhile when going through the Arena routes where they have the most interactions Akihiko would respect him as a Persona-user for his strong loyalty towards his friends. Can be moved to tier 2 with enough interactions but otherwise stays here.
Mitsuru is here! The character that started this tier list! Mitsuru does not dislike Teddie and is able to shut down most of his flirting attempts fast. She is a professional and can deal with worse in a quick and serious manner with the least amount of offending. Someone online claimed that Mitsuru wouldn’t want to be on a team with Teddie due to difficulties dealing with him but I see this as false. In Teddie’s internal monologue in Arena he mentioned how commanding Mitsuru’s voice is and how it would be difficult to say no to her. This is to say under normal circumstances Teddie would have no issues following her orders. Mitsuru also didn’t veto Teddie volunteering to join her, Akihiko, and Aigis on a rescue mission for Teddie’s friends in Ultimax. So she would view him as a capable eccentric.
On to Ken. Honestly, this tier list made me realize how little Teddie and Ken have interacted in any spin-off. As such, most of this would be headcanons. I think Ken would view Teddie as very immature at first but would cut him a bit of slack after finding out he wasn’t from this world. Teddie would try to get him to play with him since he seems so serious for his age which would annoy Ken since he still doesn’t enjoy being seen as the child of the group. So they could have a few misunderstandings with each other. Overall, Ken would know that Teddie is an important member of the IT and try not to judge.
Tier 4: Awkward Coexistence
The tier for Yukari (& Shinji)
Yukari and Teddie didn’t have a good first meeting with each other. What with Teddie trying to touch her to check if she was a fake or not since he doesn’t know how the real Yukari is supposed to act and the fog was messing with his nose. They became a group for a bit before separating and most of their interactions had Yukari annoyed with him. Yukari is very critical around guys that are full of themselves and flirt with girls often so she would most likely keep a bit of distance when in a group setting with him. If she ever finds out more about him then she could be willing to give him another chance. Not seeing him for awhile could also mellow her out to him eventually. Otherwise they stay as acquaintances. Only one that would side eye to being paired with him for a mission.
So, there you have it random Reddit user! No one in SEES actively dislikes Teddie!
Maybe I'll make a reverse tier list? Teddie's own opinions on everyone!

After a season full of topical episodes, "All the Way Down" showed Futurama at its best: an episode explaining scientific ideas in a fun, entertaining way. This episode would be a great introduction to quantum mechanics and simulation theory.
Generally, I'm not a fan of simulation theory because people tend to get smug about it. "Nothing is real! Existence is meaningless! We're all just a bunch of ones and zeroes!" But if you're experiencing life, why does it matter if it's "real" or not?
If existence isn't real, then why don't you stop eating? Why don't you sleep on the floor instead of a bed? That sounds uncomfortable? Sounds like your experiences mean something after all!
I was happy that Futurama came to the same conclusion. Instead of feeling depressed because nothing matters, the characters realized that everyone's lives matter. One of the pre-commercial jump cuts implied that "our" Planet Express crew is in a simulation of their own, but what difference does it make? They're still people.
Additionally, I loved watching Amy show off her smarts. I think her ditziness makes people, including the writers, forget that she holds a doctorate. She held her own against the professor and challenged his thinking.
That being said...I didn't necessarily enjoy this episode. I had a blast watching "The Impossible Stream," "I Know What You Did Last Xmas," "Rage Against the Vaccine" (yeah, I know that's an unpopular opinion) and others. TV doesn't have to be fun to be great--I'm a Sopranos fan, and some of the best episodes are brutal--but I felt like I was watching an animated lecture.
It's a great episode, but I wouldn't say that I'll look forward to it when I eventually rewatch the whole series. Still, personal opinion doesn't reflect the quality.
However, that brings me to my biggest issue with the episode: the implication that a Bender from a higher dimension replaced "our" Bender. Some have said that our Bender came back, proving that the crew is in a simulation because the professor said it's a one-way trip--or maybe it's just a plot hole.
But I think the writing implies that our Bender is gone and another took his place. He reboots out of nowhere and tells the crew that he has a solution, just like our Bender did when he jumped down a level. Additionally, as previously mentioned, one of the jump cuts implies that our crew is also in a simulation. It's simulations all the way down!
I have the same issue with "The Late Phillip J. Fry" from the Comedy Central run. Fry, Bender and the professor jump two universes ahead, leaving the rest of the crew to die trillions of years ago. I also raised an eyebrow at the professor going back in time in "I Know What You Did Last Xmas." He probably came back to the same universe because if he didn't, he would've run into another professor--but you can't be totally sure.
Yeah, we're still watching the Planet Express crew, and it doesn't matter from a storytelling perspective. And it's debatable how canon this is since Futurama famously resets at the end of nearly every episode. But it's still unsettling.
If someone with an identical twin dies, and their twin takes their place, their twin isn't them. The original consciousness--the person that we knew--is gone forever.
This is also why "Jurassic Bark" doesn't hit as hard for me because Fry wasn't bringing Seymour back to life. He was making a clone. That clone isn't Seymour.
Maybe I'm taking a TV show too seriously, but if everyone's replaceable, then maybe "All the Way Down" isn't implying that every life is important after all. One simulated person is as good as another.
In any case, I can't deny that the ending was fantastic--probably one of the best endings that I've ever seen. The crew watches the world pixelate around them, but instead of having an existentialist crisis, Fry and Leela slowly lean in for a kiss. I almost cried, which is no easy feat! Very few movies and TV shows move me to tears.
The writers minimized Fry's role in season eight, implying that he's no longer the main character, but maybe Futurama said everything it had to say about his story. He can't be the "fish out of water" forever; at a certain point, he's going to adjust to the future.
I had some issues with this episode, and I disliked a few others (what the hell was going on with "The Prince and the Product"?), but overall, season eight had great gags, funny topical references, sweet moments between the characters--the Comedy Central run was pretty mean-spirited--and fresh takes on scientific concepts.
Ultimately, and I'm saying this as someone who's been watching Futurama since 1999, this revival was worth it. Futurama just won't die, and maybe it's a cash grab, but it's also because the fans love it so much.

It’s CMA-
Y’know I was going to say that I want Anthony to get in here to kick her dad’s ass but that I didn’t think that clover would handle it well if Anthony knew her secret, but honestly I feel like Anthony doesn’t need an explanation; he would just hear that his family is in trouble and need no further details, just doing whatever he can to absolutely ruin her dad.
I loved seeing protective Ben and also having clover see Ben defending her as a good thing, instead of what I’ve been worried about. I also love that we got to see her and Josie’s support system in action.
I don’t think clover even realizes that as much as these people are there for Ben and Josie, they’re there for her too. People care about her and it’s actually such a good thing. I think we’re going to see the full extent of what their support system looks like in action, and I for one cannot wait to see that.
I also love the idea of like… clover seeing that there are good people out there that care for her and that she can trust and depend on other people.
Plus that moment of Andrew staying with Josie and Ben with clover, just knowing that no matter what they are never leaving their side, and living up to the commitments they’ve made to their partners (platonic or otherwise).
As always I love the attention to detail: the disinfectant I’m assuming is typical for the era knowing you and knowing the fact that I didn’t recognize the name, plus the nod to the fact that Ben’s entire livelihood and future career all depend on him being able to use his hand and the things that go with that, and that he was and is willing to put all of that at risk for her.
He’s saying that nothing is more important than clover to him- not even his art, which until he met her was his entire world. His hopes and dreams come secondary to her safety, and that is so, so beautiful and tragic and incredible of him.
I also love that Josie and clover both have support systems now, and so does teddy for that matter. I love that everyone around them is more than willing to sacrifice for them and their real family because they love them, and it’s such a stark contrast to the beginning of their stories when they couldn’t trust anyone but each other and themselves.
I love that clover and Josie are both in places where they can be emotionally healthy enough to recognize the threat and respond to them rather than just having a break down and panicking. They may not realize it, but that is such a dramatic contrast to the first few chapters when clover had a panic attack at any mention of her previous life.
She has emotionally matured so, so much and I am so proud of her for being able to (relatively) calmly and rationally respond to this threat.
I also love Ben being able to know how to calm clover down. He knew the flower game would get her mind off things and make her happy. That’s not even to mention the part where he literally stood between her and her father.
I am nervous to see if clover’s mother tries a different tactic to like guilt her or something. With her dad it’s very black and white- it’s easy to hate him, it’s very overt, but with her mother it’s complicated because she abused clover and let her be abused, but I feel like in these fics the mom is painted in a better light in which it’s like ‘but you were also a victim so let me help you get out of there’.
I don’t see clover as being one to help her mom out of this hole, but also I may be misremembering but I feel like her mom was also strongly abusive as well. And I get that the issues with her mom can be significantly more complicated, in part due to the factors I’ve named, but I’ll be interested to see if instead of a physical threat, her mom becomes an emotional one to try and manipulate clover in some way.
Ugh this is such a good story!!! I love them so, so much and I’m glad you’re back!!!
CMA honey hiiiii! 🥰❤️
Oh yeah, Anthony would not hesitate to protect his family and that includes Clover as well now! ❤️ So he wouldn't even ask for details and just rush to her help ❤️
Protective Ben! 🥰 We're going to see a lot of him in the following chapters❤️
Clover has an actual family now that would do anything for her, and it will surprise her to see that they are in fact protective of her ❤️ For so long it was just Josie and her, and now...🥰
Plus that moment of Andrew staying with Josie and Ben with clover, just knowing that no matter what they are never leaving their side, and living up to the commitments they’ve made to their partners (platonic or otherwise). Omg exactly!
It was actually important for me to depict Josie and Andrew's friendship well, because they are so loyal to each other and most of the time we see that within romantic sense in the stories ❤️ But like, they're actually best friends who would do anything for each other and that doesn't make it any less valuable than a romantic relationship, you know what I mean? ❤️
The disinfectant, omg you noticed that detail yesss! ❤️ That's actually regarded as one of the very first disinfectants! ❤️
the nod to the fact that Ben’s entire livelihood and future career all depend on him being able to use his hand and the things that go with that, and that he was and is willing to put all of that at risk for her.
THIS! YESSSS! ❤️
Omg I'm so happy to hear this, that's exactly what I meant to depict ❤️ Because for Benedict, Clover's safety and happiness comes first and he's not going to let her father insult her, ever ❤️
That's so true! ❤️ If it were at the beginning of the story, Clover would have had a completely different reaction to her father showing up, but she actually feels so safe with Benedict that she reacts accordingly even under extreme stress 🥰
Benedict knows her so well😍 And him standing between her and her father, he always puts himself between her and any harm that might come in her way❤️
Oooh absolutely, we will see her mother soon, and she used to hit Clover and Josie as well, just not like their father 💔 But she also used sort of like a manipulation like you said, it was more of an emotional pressure and such 💔
Things will be very tense in the following chapters😈
Thank you so so much for this darling! ❤️❤️❤️

Who is the woman on your pfp? She looks very cute.
Ohhh, let me introduce you, my friend, to Cersei Lannister from Game of Thrones, the Character Of All Time, and my FAVORITE character in any piece of media ever.
This woman is the most fascinating fictional construct I have ever encountered, and, although she is...not a good person, her struggles are so painfully real (and even, many times, relatable) that she feels the most human to me out of an entire cast of richly human, well-rounded characters. She has an extreme tangle of a bunch of different psychological issues, all of which manifest in some pretty unpalatable ways.
She gets angry and jealous, she acts out, she has an unhealthy dependence on alcohol and is part of the most intensely codependent relationship known to fiction. She feels so trapped in her womanhood due to the horrible way the society she lives in that she resents other women and has a hell of a lot of internalized misogyny. She has an over-idealized view of her parents while also having been influenced in all of the worst ways by her father. She leans on violence and cynicism and increasingly-ill-advised personal isolation as a way to try and feel some semblance of control in a dangerous, misogynistic world. She exemplifies this intersection of "being a bad person," benefiting from material financial privilege, and being incredibly sympathetic and disenfranchised. And she fully owns up to the fact that she does horrible things!! She believes that what she does is justified to survive and to prevent other people from hurting her children, but doesn't try to kid herself into thinking she's a good person; and there are not enough words in the multiverse for how much I appreciate that. She also serves as a deconstruction of the "Evil Queen" archetype, because what would push someone to act like that? How do we measure those actions against a world hell-bent on cruelty? How do we reconcile the fact that there's still a person under there, one who is also suffering and who also deserves to be viewed with humanity, just like everyone else?
And probably most significantly (for me, anyway, lol) she's an excellent example of an antagonist who is mentally ill but not Evil™ Because Of It. Her mental illness and the maladaptive things she does to cope with it (mostly by turning...just about everything she does into a desperate attempt to avoid feeling any more pain--from her violent grabs at power, to her feral protection of her children, to her alienation of most of the people around her, to her automatic and self-sabotaging distrust of pretty much anyone and everyone) simply lend context to her worldview and allow us to see why she chooses to act the way that she does. The suffering she experiences due to her mental illness is intentionally meant to be sympathetic and to humanize her. We're meant to feel for her, and the few people she trusts and/or genuinely loves (mainly, her twin brother; her children; and, eventually, her right-hand-man) are the ones who don't make a habit of calling her "mad" or treating her like she's "crazy." She still gets to affect the overall story and other major characters in significant ways, which...doesn't always happen for female antagonists or characters who are meant to be read as mentally ill. And she doesn't die prettily after two or three episodes before never being mentioned again, either!! She's an extremely important character all the way through the show. And though mental illness deeply affects her in many aspects of her life, it's not The Reason™ she's violent or hostile or dangerous. It's simply a characterization choice that helps us understand her.
I love her more than life itself. She's everything to me.

Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let’s spread the self-love ♥️
ok before i do mine i just want to shout out yours!!! everybody go check out @cellsshapedlikestars' fave five fics (especially the crime noir one) ❤️
ok now back to me looks like i’m going with a counting down format
5. in any world (in any way) - sansa aus
link to ao3 and link to tag
i put two on here but i couldn’t pick just one more!!! i love overboard i love anastasia i love parent trap i love miss congeniality i love house of wax i love princess diaries
there are a couple i did not mention specifically but genuinely truly truly i love all of them they are each a little labor of love putting together the graphics and sometimes trying to be very intentional with those but as i talked about earlier even when the graphics are done and how i like them these days i never share them if i don’t also have the blurb where i want and if i haven’t also figured out how everything slots into place
it is so fun to do a little au like this because it’s like a puzzle figuring out who is who and how you can make it work being true to the source material you’re using as your framework while also adapting as necessary for your character’s actual character arcs like!!!! they are much bigger in my head then they make it onto the page, also. i wish i could fully write all of them out but it would take me forever
4. while you were sleeping jonsa au
link to blurb and link to drabble and link to tag
related to what i was just saying..... i did write out a scene for this one actually!!!!! this movie makes my heart so warm and thinking about it in terms of jonsa made my heart so warm and i just love that scene and i loved writing it out and i had a few other blah blahs that i’ve shared in my tag too
3. sweet/vicious - sansa and arya au
link to blurb
this one may not have an audience anywhere other than with me bc i feel like i am the only person who didn’t work at mtv who watched this show while it was airing but i have shown sweet/vicious to approximately one million friends and it is just such a little gift of a tv show and i feel like the dynamics fit really well for sansa and arya. i love love love a sister moment and the way that jules and ophelia care about each other but also fight sometimes and are so different lends itself really well to these two girlies. also jon as tyler is really truly honestly very special to me too (although i do hate to make the stark sisters unrelated bc then i’m always like ok do i give them last names lmao who gets what parent how does all that stuff work)
2. i carry it in mine - jonsa soulmate au
link to ao3 and link to tag
i think this one speaks for itself. it’s the most popular thing i’ve ever written, which isn’t really that important to me in a numbers sense, but it’s very special to get to talk about a story that i wrote with people who liked it and the larger number of eyes on it provided that opportunity. it’s also been a fun experiment in switching perspectives, because i usually just stick to one at a time. and there is just a lot in there that i love. it is very much still like an adaptive work but trying to come up with solutions to these plot issues that people have with those works or trying to guess where things are going when we don’t have the real answers yet (not necessarily in an attempt to get things all right but just to make sure they make sense!!!) has been a hard and interesting challenge too.
1. howl 2 (but also all of howl) - jonsa scream au
link to ao3 and link to tag
look clearly i love working in adaptations and mash ups and that’s why this is just my absolute fave i think. sansa/jonsa/sansa and her siblings plus the scream franchise!!! and howl 2 specifically because while i love howl 1 i like marathon churned it out in a 72 hour period basically just plagiarizing and novelizing the scream script without pouring in too much additional effort. i just thought it would be like a fun halloween drabble sort of deal. but then howl 2 i put a lot more time and thought and effort and love into and it felt more like writing an actual story. also there are more jonsa feelings in it!!!!! idk it just was the most labor of love too bc i was like..... truly nobody is going to read this i am only writing this for myself and i still finished it!!!!!! go me

So, I feel like fandom has totally been sleeping on Jewish Harry and/or Hermione.
Think about the potential!
Last night while trying and failing to sleep I had thought of a whole bunch of really interesting reasons for Jewish headcanons for both Harry and Hermione, and of course now that it’s day time I’m much less eloquent. But still, here are a few of my favorite reasons for Jewish Harry and/or Hermione.
(Also, for the record, I’m half Jewish patrilineally myself.)
For Harry:
He’d probably be half Jewish ethnically, and if his Jewish parent is James then Harry probably would have never had any idea (the Dursleys probably wouldn’t have told him if they knew, but it’s also entirely possible they never knew at all.)
There’s a whole thematic parallel there with not knowing he was a wizard, in that finding out later in life that you’re Jewish is an entirely realistic thing that some half ethnically Jewish people (especially those that are patrilineal) have to deal with.
It also parallels the wizard thing in general, in terms of having to hide a part of who you are due to persecution, something that has been (and still is in many places and situations) a very real necessity for Jewish people.
There’s more subtle stuff to explore about being half-blood and also half Jewish, the issue with patrilineal Jews not being recognized by some people as Jewish, the lower social status that half-bloods have compared to purebloods etc etc. This would be a reverse of the main parallel of the blood purity thing, but it lines up in an interesting way with the problems that half ethnically Jewish (especially patrilineal) people sometimes have in regard to not fitting into either ‘world’, an issue that half-blood wizards might sometimes face as well if they have muggle family they’re on good terms with.
Culturally, it’s very important for Jewish people to stand up for people who need help, especially those who can’t help themselves. This is for a lot of reasons, but one in particular is that because Jewish people know what it’s like to be persecuted and discriminated against, it’s a moral imperative not to stand by and let other people be treated the same way. Harry’s deep sense of responsibility in terms of fighting for and protecting others, treating others equally, etc all work really well with that, as well as lining up with the other theme of how Harry has been mistreated his whole life and yet shows such kindness and forgiveness toward others.
On a sillier note, Daniel Radcliffe is half Jewish himself (though matrilineally) so that would also make perfect casting.
For Hermione:
Her love for learning fits in perfectly with Jewish cultural attitudes toward study and learning. Seeking knowledge and understanding are important parts of Jewish culture, including learning to question even authority figures (like, say, professors) which aligns well with Hermione’s growth through the series.
Like I mentioned with Harry, Hermione’s intense need to stand up against injustice, and to fight for people who are disenfranchised, discriminated against, etc, is also a very strong cultural tenant.
The blood purity parallel was never subtle at all to begin with, but Hermione being not just muggle-born but the Jewish witch daughter of two Jewish muggles would be incredibly thematic in a story about prejudice.
The ball was dropped hard on Hermione’s situation in DH in regards to her being on the run for being muggle-born, since that danger was overshadowed a bit by the fact that she was also in danger just for traveling with Harry. But there could’ve been really interesting potential there for how she might’ve dealt with the obvious historical parallel if she were Jewish as well.
A sillier one but although the ‘Jewish hair’ thing is a stereotype, it’s also entirely accurate for a lot of Jewish people, and Hermione having bushy brown hair could easily line up with that.
For Both:
I mentioned this for them individually, but Harry being half ethnically Jewish, Hermione being fully ethnically Jewish, and Ron not being Jewish would line up exactly with them being half-blood, muggle-born, and pureblood.
For the record, there’s nothing at all wrong with being a Jewish witch/wizard, especially not in the sense of how it works in the HP universe.
The very thought of either of both of them being Jewish would probably piss off JKR and that’s funny.
Now all of this said, I totally would understand why people would be super wary about Jewish headcanons if they aren’t Jewish themselves, and might be afraid of doing something insensitive, being wrong or overstepping about Jewish issues, etc etc and those are very good things to be cautious about! But I’d still love to see more Jewish headcanons because I feel like the idea is so interesting and has so much potential.

Wheel of Time full series spoiler thoughts on EOTW 24-28
A probably semi-regular weekly bonus to my reread blog, since sometimes you realize things on reread that just make you need to yell in a full spoiler space.
GHENJEI! It's right there! I love that the ebook cover chose to depict this moment. And the sa'angreal at Tremalking… fuck. I always get really fucked up over what happens there. The museum at Tanchico with the skeletons but Domon has no way of knowing the sad bracelets on another shelf are going to be so much more important to us and to himself.
Given what we learn later and how Aram ends up, I'm… not entirely sure the Tuatha'an are really to be given all that much credit as far as respectful portrayals, when it all shakes out. Like, I love that pure pacifism is an option in this world, and a respectable enough one at that, for all that the people are subject to a similar antiziganist sentiment as our world has. But, the only person we see from that culture who picks up a weapon is Aram, who ends up a zealot who would murder his own best friend. I mean, technically, we also see the people who go on to become the modern Aiel, but… sigh. We'll have so much time to talk about them later. For now, as with so many things, I just… want to think that RJ tried and that the effort at least makes him stand out from his contemporaries.
Also, I genuinely (though I am once again unqualified to do so authoritatively) like how they're handled better in the TV show so far, for two reasons. For one, they explicitly accept people with violent pasts, as long as they are willing to take up the Way of the Leaf, and I think that's something RJ overlooked a bit. He does mention that people run away to join the Tuatha'an, but not… not with the same depth, you know? It may go against their portrayal as real-life Romani and adjacent people, I have no idea, but I find comfort in the idea of being able to give up my anger and my fear and live with a people so brave as them. For two, Ila's discussion with Perrin in the show will stick with me forever as a better explanation of the Tuatha'an philosophy, of the Way of the Leaf, than anything I remember the books doing. "What better revenge against death, than life?" I am currently tearing up a bit just thinking about it. MDK, one of my many queens, I'm so glad I was wrong about her playing Elaida.
So, we're all in more or less agreement that the Song is a misinterpreted fragment of lore passed down along, right? The closest thing still to it is what the Ogier do in tree singing, but it was never the source of the peace. It couldn't save Jaric Mondoran in TSR 26 from the madness of the Taint, that much is certain. (Yes I looked up the name, but I remembered the chapter number, because 25/26 are one of the major fulcrum points of the series.)
I know some people will probably take issue with me pointing out the connections to Tam's fever rambling in chapter 6, but I stand by what I said in my analysis and in my spoiler post back then: all the information is RIGHT. THERE. If you could potentially remember the detail, it's fair game. That's what this blog journey is all about.
Elyas's "something" feeling about needing to wait a few more days… he hates the Wolf Dream, if I recall, but do you think this could be a TAR prediction, the way Perrin gets some later? And he's just handwaving the specifics to keep from terrifying Perrin further with wolfbrotherhood.
Egg's desire to learn everything she can to assimilate into whatever culture she falls into is one of her greatest strengths. She never forgets who she is, but she wants to know, to relate, to be a part of something bigger than herself. And, learning more about the world prepared her beautifully to help negotiate the exchange program and the Kin alliance. It really is too bad something happened in the decision making process and left fucking Cadsuane Amyrlin after AMOL. (I may very well die angry about it. I love that Egwene's arc completes the way it does, but PEVARA. WAS. RIGHT. THERE.)

Avatar Chibi Vol 1 - Aang's Unfreezing Day Review
Note - This is the review I submitted to the publisher, given that I got a review copy of this book.
I find this to be a tough book to review, on on hand I want to give it all the passes in the world since it is just a fun chibi comic for young readers, but on the other hand I want to really push back on what the creative team considers a book for "Young Avatar fans" to be. Overall the book is very middle of the road, it is an extremely standard surprise party plot that happens to have really strong art from a fan favourite artist like Diana Sim. As a simple review that is what it comes down to, amazing art let down by no real attempt on the writing side of things to do anything of note with a great cast of characters.
That is why I will devote most of this review to discussing why, going back to my initial debate, I lean ultimately on the side of feeling like I have to criticise the decision to make this a "Young Readers" book and what this seems to have done to this book.
First of all Avatar The Last Airbender is already a kids franchise, it is a nickelodeon show. Sure it stands out as being something different compared to most other Nick shows, but the point remains that it is already a show made primarily for kids. So why the need to purposely make a story lean more towards being for "Young Readers"? I find this a weird decision because it suggests that the other Avatar comics are not for kids, and if the point here is that those comics do deal with complex topics, then I still have the issue of who is this book for, who is it aimed at? Surely any kid wanting this book, wants it because they already know Avatar from the tv show, so why would they then enjoy a book that purposefully tries to do less than the show where their interest comes from. The gateway comic should be The Lost Adventures or Team Avatar Tales, not this.
The other point here is that Avatar has a history of having quite a few comic short stories where the plots are very low key and it is more of a "fun with the characters" style book. The core premise of this comic feels like it makes for a pretty solid short story, that there was no need to make it for "Young Readers", just do it as a normal comic, but add some natural emotional depth that a story like this would bring up.
The issue with this story is plain to see from the description on the back cover. It mentions the idea that Aang's Unfreezing Day should be his Birthday since he doesn't remember his birthday. the problem is that none of this is addressed at all in the comic itself, no one mentions Aang's birthday at all or this being a replacement, instead it just feels like they are celebrating a year since Aang got out of the ice. This was a big disappointment for me since I was excited to see how Aang would explain not knowing when his birthday is and it would allow for some nice emotional moments as the other characters plan the party to resolve this. Instead it is a super simplified everyone ignores Aang plot and then we get a pretty generic celebration with no real emotion to anything.
I think both hardcore fans and young readers alike who all like Avatar would be disappointed by the events of this book. If a Volume 2 is planned a decision needs to be made to either just tell a normal story with a chibi art style or lean fully into the chibi stuff and do full non-canon crazyness we expect from Avatar Chibi. This middle ground of a "Young Reader" chibi story that loses the charm of previous chibi content while also feeling a bit "dumbed down" for "Young Readers" is not a good combination. Utilise this incredible artist on a more important story.
A smaller, but still important criticism of this story is the lack of Suki in this story. It is incredibly frustrating to see her be the only member of Team Avatar left out of this story and with no explanation given. Same applies to a character like Mai who should be with Zuko. If Zuko can be here despite being the Fire Lord I think Suki and Mai should be able to show up.
A final note is about continuity. I find myself confused if this comic is meant to be considered part of the mainline canon or if it is just meant to be a non-canon chibi story. Since Avatar Chibi content is usually non-canon, with crazy events happening that would never happen in the main story, the confusion over this feels like it should have been addressed. I think it is canon since it is not over the top chibi action, but a statement on this would be nice.
So overall I just don't see the need in Avatar for specific "Young Reader" comics. The short stories we get for Free Comic Book Day and in the short story collections fill this gap already. The art stands out here, but unfortunately that is it. I don't like being overly critical of Avatar comics, but nothing really stood out to me as a big Avatar fan.

where the crawdads sing
"most of what she knew, she'd learned from the wild. nature had nurtured, tutored, and protected her when no one else would."
this is a story of a young girl, wild and shunned, by others and her own. this is a story about a world within the marsh, rooted deep within nature, withdrawn from society. it is about a love story that begins with feathers on a stump, it is about a tough life built and sustained with almost nothing. it is about survival and courage and putting up a fight; about prejudices and overcoming them. it is about knowing where beauty and power lie - more often than not, in the most unexpected places.
this novel birthed in me the very feeling one gets after finishing a good book. that deep satisfaction, that gripping anticipation in the climax, that slow love for the words all through. since this book doesn’t simply span a story of a few years, but a whole life, led through town and marsh, it feels more like a journey. you get engrossed into it in a completely different way because it builds itself up so well - so unique, out-of-the-ordinary and enticing. delia owen’s writing style is absolutely brilliant; i found myself annotating throughout, finding little snippets of wonder in her words. with her descriptions, the marsh comes alive, colors and creatures, on white pages; kya’s story gets an unimaginable depth and unparalleled rawness.
at every instance, the author is careful to mention kya’s little perks and her eccentric behaviour. for example, her abandonment issues are starkly visible in each important event of her life, and she’s seen running away countless times - backing into the marsh, the only home she’s ever known. but what i love is the fact that, no matter how much she may run and hide, she’s the only one, out of everyone she’s every known (be it family or lovers) who’s stayed - stayed with her little shack, with her marsh, with her lonely life. that speaks volumes; it says that her abandonment issues may reach so far out as to tarnish her relationships with people, but it does not affect her love for the wild. she is bound to her nature, bound to the earth, bound to the swamp and the sea and the gulls, and every time she runs, she runs right into their arms.
“oh, carolina creeks running through my veins
lost I was born, lonesome I came
lonesome I'll always stay...”
another thing the author is careful to mention multiple times is kya’s loneliness. the fact that she is alone and acknowledges it, but also that there is a conflict within her - does she prefer this life, alone with the gulls, or does she hunger for something more? delia owens was careful to show that kya definitely felt left out, shunned, gossiped about all through town, and that she didn’t always love her faraway life, perhaps even hoped to make a real friend or two. but when you think kya, you think of her gulls and her boat, her sea and her marsh. she embraces loneliness in a way that it characterizes her, yet does not limit her and makes her all the more special as a person. all the more alluring.
and not just her, but every character has been written so well. from tate being the childhood sweetheart, to chase being the obnoxious antagonist; from her own Pa being so terrible and abusive, to jumpin’ being the supportive father she never had; from the marsh being her home to the small town being mean and gossipy like they’re known to be. each person, each place, each boat ride and trip to town, each blade of grass and feather of a bird, everything was given the rawness you’d expect from a book like this - a book so close to nature (human and wild) and its silent stories, a book that confesses the wise and discreet traits of the earth and its creatures.
and lord, the thrill and excitement in the last 50 pages or so! if someone were to ask me what the book was about, i wouldn’t describe it as a murder mystery novel because it is so much more than that; it is primarily about the life of this bizarre and isolated girl. and yet, the climax was written so that, even though the rest of the story may get slow at times, the ending still remains fast-paced and takes on the brand of a mystery novel. and i love that. i love that the book does not have to limit itself to a genre or trope. it is a truly rare and unique literary masterpiece, and stands out solitarily like one.
as a girl, to read about kya’s character was such an eye-opening experience. she’s absolutely unlike all the female protagonists that i idolize. kya is different, and yet just as powerful and extraordinary as them. she holds close her loneliness and wildness, and she emerges from every situation headfast and strong. she knows what she wants, and fights for whatever she needs to survive. she has her own flaws but isn’t susceptible to every little human vice that the other people in town do, because, well, she doesn’t belong in the town. she belongs, really and truly, in the wilderness and solitude that she has known all her life, in the acceptance and unbiasedness of the sea and the marsh. everyone else may have left her, but nature knew how to stay through till the end, how to cradle her when she needed to be held, how to console her and beautify her, and bring out her absolute best.
she may have been alone most of her life, but she always had the earth as her mother. for the sand, the sea, the sky and its gulls, she was, is, and always will be their beloved marsh girl.
