THE UGLY DUCHESS (c.1513) by QUENTIN MASSYS
The woman in the painting is wrinkled, and her breasts are drooping. She is wearing an aristocrat’s horned hat (Escoffion) that was in vogue when the painting was made. She is holding the red flower in the right hand, which is a sign of engagement. She is looking for a lover.
For many years, the painting was believed to be the work of LEONARDO DA VINCI because of its similarity to his two head caricature drawings. Now, however, the head caricatures are believed to be based on drawings made by MASSYS. MASSYS and LEONARDO corresponded and exchanged drawings.
The literary inspiration for the work is ERASMUS'S essay in "Praise of Folly" (1511), which satirizes elderly women in a misogynist fashion. In this case, the lady in question was COUNTESS MARGARET OF TYROL. Her enemies called her ugly, but she had passed away 150 years before.
According to some scholars, the portrait served as a basis for JOHN TENNIEL'S 1869 illustrations of the DUCHESS IN ALICE'S ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND. For that reason, it was associated with the world of the fairy tale.
Another interesting fact about the UGLY DUCHESS is that according to an article published in BRITISH MEDICAL JOURNAL, the portrayed women were believed to have Paget’s disease, a condition in which a person’s bones swell and become deformed.

sansa stark
hello!! thank you for the ask !! i've only read the first book, so i'll mainly be using that. also because im a certified hater about sansa antis, who mostly dunk on baby sansa
favorite thing about them: she's so goddamn smart. like politically, socially, all over. she answers that question about identifying renly baratheon so smoothly, she entertains the audience with her comments, she realizes that littlefinger is not quite what he seems "his mouth smiled while his eyes did not". so so smart my darling.
least favourite thing about them: nothing. she's perfect. maybe lemon cakes? what's the fixation?? but that might be my problem because i've never had a good one.
favourite line:
book 1:
Yet she knew that beyond them was open country, farms and fields and forests, and beyond that, north and north and north again, stood Winterfell.
overall, i'm kind of predicatable. i just love how sansa realises there are no true knights and ladies, but she's still finding reasons to believe, and trying her best to be the ideal she's taught.
Be brave, she told herself. Be brave, like a lady in a song.
brOTP: so far, sansa & margarey, but i remember reading this one fic with beautiful sansa & satin flowers.
OTP: jon snow/sansa stark.
nOTP: i ... don't like Sandor/Sansa or Tyrion/Sansa... it's sort of like those christmas movies where the gorgeous girl settles for this plain looking man... i don't see it happening.
random headcannon: i really like the idea of cultural-renaissance court of winter under Queen Sansa. also that she gets a direwolf pups-- let me feast myself on those nothern magic, greenseer headcannons.
unpopular opinion: i liked the ending of GOT, atleast for Sansa and Arya. (proceeds to hide in an underground bunker)
songs i associate with them: there's this hindi song called Teri Dastan (your destiny) that is literally her song. also jenny of oldstones (karliene) for some reason even if its a targ song,
favourite picture of them: i'm assuming this means costume soo... the armour-ish costumes, dark tones that really wet of her hair. gif set here. and my favourite accessory (predictable) is the dragonfly necklace.

hello lovely!
you're clearly a person with immaculate taste lmao, i love how our fandoms are all matching up!
as of today my favourite songs are sheer heart attack by queen and erase me by lizzy mcalpine (absolute wiplash going between those two songs, no clue why those are the two that have stuck with me today). i LOVE relating songs to characters, at the moment i've been listening to a lot of noah kahan and so many of his songs apply to jesper (homesick, bad luck, nothern attitude, growing sideways, ect) and also a lot of fiona apple which i've decided applies to wylan? for some reason? like anti jan van eck angst if that makes sense (under the table+to your love) idk those kind of vibes.
ALSO i've decided that you can't catch me now is in fact an inej song, like that makes total sense in my brain.
much love!

An illustration of a knight I retouched using the colours and coat of arms of Hohenbuchenauer, a great household of feudal aristocracy and prince-electors in The Empire of Mankind Proper. Artwork designed for a low-fantasy setting my my original conception with technology equivalent to the late medieval and renaissance periods. Where heavily armoured and mounted knights in suits of full-plate armour or heavy coats of chainmail fight alongside armies of pikemen and matchlock musketeers, where medieval-style stone castles are gradually being outsourced in favour of both lavish country estates and devoted, or otherwise “bastioned” military fortifications due to the technological innovations made in artillery design, and where growing nation-states in the form of kingdoms and empires look beyond the great oceans and the frontiers of the known world in search of even greater wealth and territory. In context to the lore of my fantasy setting, Hohenbuchenauer is the ruling family of The Duchy of Solingen, or “Das Herzogtum von Solingen” in the “Northern” or “Austere” Imperial Language and one of the prince-electors of The Empire of Mankind Proper. Das Herzogtum von Solingen under the reign of the current Buchenauer duke is most noted for being the first state in the entirety of the civilized world to officially convert to the “Luxembourgian” movement to reform The Conservative Church of The New Gods. Duke Conrad Von Buchenauer as reigning Duke of Solingen, Prince-Elector of The Empire of Mankind, and current head of the Hohenbuchenauer dynasty has officially proclaimed himself to be the personal guarantor, defender, and champion of Karl Von Luxembourg’s cause to reform The Conservative Church of The New Gods. He has used his political authority as reigning Duke of Solingen and Prince-Elector of The Empire of Mankind to decree state legislation to formally convert to The Luxembourgian Reformation on behalf of both his household and subjects. The Duchy of Solingen under the Buchenauer dynasty is also most noted for hosting the official seat of “The Reformed Coalition,” or a grand alliance of monarchs, princes, and states both within and without The Empire of Mankind Proper who have either decreed, or passed state legislation to officially convert to The Luxembourgian Reforms on behalf of their households, subjects, and/or citizens. The Coalition is seated in the city of Wörtzburch, or the city in Das Herzogtum von Solingen where Karl Von Luxembourg began lecturing on matters of theology as a learned doctor of the church and as a prestigious graduate of The Imperial Academy at Nymphenburg in Der Reichstadt, or the sovereign realm of The Imperial Household in The Empire of Mankind Proper. The aesthetic, culture, and language of “Das Herzogtum von Solingen” is loosely modeled after the Low-Germanic culture of The Duchy of Saxony in The Holy Roman Empire during the medieval and early modern periods of European history, keeping in faith with the obvious Germanic and Czech influence of the more dominant “Nothern” or “Austere” cultural hemisphere of The Empire of Mankind in my low-fantasy setting.

I also love the symbolism of fruit. I admire the religious Christian connotations of fruit such as; lust and sexuality. In the religious art periods of; Byzantine, Gothic, Nothern Renaissance and Italian Renaissance, fruit were shown in paintings as symbolic objects to warn people of wanton behaviour and the immorality of it. The painters were reminding the viewer of the impermanence of life and therefore to live a virtuous and clean existence in order to save themselves from being damned.

PRIMAVERA, (1477) by SANDRO BOTTICELLI
PRIMAVERA shows a group of figures from GREEK MYTHOLOGY in the garden or forest. Rather than depicting a particular scene from a mythological tale, it is thought that either BOTTICELLI presents these figures in this configuration for the sake of aesthetics, or, if there is a story in this painting, we don’t know what it is because we can’t find out about it.
The mystery of this painting is what makes it so appealing. While the painting’s title suggests that it’s an allegory of SPRING, there’s no consensus on what exactly the painting is trying to say.
It is probable that the main character is VENUS (the goddess of love) while the three grace dancers dance beside her. CHLORIS (the goddess of flowers) is chased by a figure of the west wind before changing into FLORA (reminiscent of a myth in OVID). MERCURY (the messenger god) stands on the left while CUPID (the figure of the arrow) flies above the scene.
The PRIMAVERA is particularly significant as it is one of the earliest examples in Western post-Classical painting of a non-religious scene.

After the Winter Fandom Batte on diary.ru (an anonymous competition in fanart and fanfiction between different fandoms), where I had drawn some ThorinxBilbo art for the JRRT All Inclusive team, I was asked, whether next winter I‘d like to draw some stuff for the team that focused on movies with Richard Armitage.
‘The Hobbit’ was the only movie with Armitage I’d ever seen, and I couldn’t even recognize the actor without the make up. I decided to watch something whith him starring, so I could figure out what to draw during the next competition. For some silly reason I thought that starting with Robin Hood BBC (2006-2009) was a good idea. Dear Lord, it’s one of the worst series I’ve ever seen, not that I watch a lot of shows. I loved the actors and the costumes, but the plot was ridiculous, so I ended up clicking ‘fast forward’ button more often than not. It’s as if the screenwriters couldn’t decide on the target group of the show: the plot would seem illogical to anyone above the age of 12, whilst the amount of killings on screen and sexploitation pointed at a much older audience.
I really liked the Season 3 look of Guy Gisbourne (played by Armitage). At one point in episode 1 or 2 Guy’s profile looked so much like Quattrocento or Early Nothern Renaissance painting (probably, something by Jan van Eyck), that I couldn’t help but sketch the snapshot.
The sketch is really small, no larger than 11x7 cm.
