Random Porter Gage headcanons!!!

okay honestly i dont know him that well but i love him so lets just hope i dont accidentally go against the canon

I feel like young/teen Gage gives off Jesse Pinkman vibes

Like "guy acting tough when deep down he's just a dumb kid who dug himself a hole trying to fit in and be cool"

While he hated how his parents raised him to be such a softie, he really had no idea how to be mean

He'd put on a show of killing people and such to fit in but he was always too gullible and got attached to overbosses while trying to gain their respect

Now he has fully accepted (and genuinely enjoys) the raider lifestyle, especially living in such a luxurious place like Nuka World

Wouldn't want to settle down or become domestic even if he could

He has a hard time putting himself in other people's shoes and doesn't really realize that being in a well-off gang probably the size of Diamond City or bigger is mostly pure luck

Knows logically that most raiders struggle and die young, but he can't wrap his head around it because he did fine so why is everyone else struggling?

Part of the reason why he assumes raider life was always for him is because he's dyslexic

He actually really likes reading and such, but he never bothers to because it's too tough

Most raiders don't like or don't know how to read so even though he can and enjoys it, he acts like he doesn't so he can fit in

I want to say he's in his late thirties or maybe early fourties?

Every time he sleeps weird and wakes up with a sore back or sees the amount of energy some raiders have he starts to realize he's getting old

He never expected to live past his 20's, then 30's, now 40's...

He's starting to settle a bit with age

Less reckless behavior, less partying, more exasperated sighs and going to sleep early...

Sometimes he feels like a parent to the other raiders in both the sense that he has to stop them from doing dumb things AND they resent him like he's an overprotective mom

He hates it, but he figures it's just part of his job now

Doesn't really get along with anyone, finds most people insufferable

He might have misophonia or sensory processing disorder that makes him struggle to be around people/crowded places for too long

... and/or he's just very introverted

That's not to say he doesn't like Sole or any of his other friends, he just really appreciates his alone time

Him Really??

When you first started dating Colter, Mags and Nisha are befuddled

Like how in the hell could you, The OVERBOSS, be willing to get together with Colter of all people. The incredibly useless and self-centered poor excuse of a former Overboss

You and him literally tried killing each other when you first met and now you're sleeping with the man who tried to kill you.

When they saw you and Colter together they both became incredibly jealous.

When they realized they were jealous they both began being angry at themselves for having a crush on the overboss of all people.

How could they develop a crush on the boss, and why did they have to realize it after you and Colter got into a relationship

When they figure out that Nisha/Mags also have a crush on you they are infuriated with one another and a lot of "incidents" between The Operators and The Disciples happen

things such as random killings, slaves being stolen or killed

sabotaging of gear and equipment

To the point that you can't ignore it anymore and then call them both into a meeting

"What in the fuck is the problem you two are having with each other?" You shout at them as they sit down in front of you.

At first the violence between the Operators and the Disciples were negligible but they quickly escalated to being on the edge of all out war, and war is very bad for business. "I'm waiting for an explanation from one of you." You say as you lean forward in the chair and stare down both of the women in front of you.

Both of the women look down after sharing a glance and huff towards each other as they cross their arms, 'this is very strange' you think to yourself since usually both of them would be quick to explain their actions. "until both of you learn to behave and knock this shit off the Pack will get first dibs on everything. The quicker you two stop whatever this crap is the less you lose to the Pack." You explain as you sigh and rub your forehead like a teacher or parent who just got done scolding a child.

As they enter the elevator they begin to talk

" We can't let those animal fuckers take all the good territory and loot from us." "Agreed"

After they reach an agreement and finally start working together they come up with a plan to get you away from Colter

At first they decide to start with something small and have some of the things you and Colter stolen and hidden away

Items that Colter own begin to disappear causing several arguments to break out between you two. You swear you had nothing to do with it but Colter either doesn't believe you or doesn't care

Nisha and Mags are pleased with themselves until they realize it's not working and breaking the two of you up

they begin to slowly increase their efforts by picking fights with Colter, complaining about him as much as they can, and other ideas

Then they decide to raise the stakes and try to frame Colter as being a thief

They begin to "steal" things from the Operators and Disciples and even have some of their trusted members steal some items from the Pack.

As the reports of small things missing or stolen jump up you begin to search for this thief

After a long time of scouring the gangs your suspicions eventually turn towards Colter

After searching through your shared spaces you eventually wait until he's out before you search through his private containers such as his dresser and chest

You find multiple things from the various gangs there. ranging from small items such as "trophies" the gangs have taken to some extreme items like Nisha's knife.

"What the fuck is this Colter" you shout as he walks back into your shared quarters, presenting him with some of the missing items you found in his closet and dresser. "I don't know how any of that got there" he shouts back as he raises his hands in an I don't know gesture

A lot of shouting and arguing is heard by nearby gang members. After over an hour of arguing you and Colter eventually reach a boiling point and end your relationship with each other and Colter is exiled from Nuka World.

Nisha and Mags smile to themselves that their plan has worked before they realize that now that Colter's gone they both are going to try and get with you.

"We both want to get with the boss right? Well then how about we both get with them at the same time. That way we both get what we want and the boss is happy we aren't killing each other." Mags explains as they both sit down across from one another.

"Fine, just don't get ahead of yourself and assume that they're gonna stay with you forever once they realizes I'm better than you." Nisha explains as her cocky smirk flashes. "As if the boss would want to be with a brute like you" Mags laughs out as both of them stand and reluctantly shake hands.

"Guess It's a contest then"

Preston is so underrated, I'm so glad he has some fans out there! I personally don't tend to use him unless I'm running a Minutemen playthrough, but he's severely under appreciated. Poor guy just wants to help the Commonwealth. (Accidentally made him hate me in my last playthrough because I was playing around with Nuka World, sorry Preston </3)

Preston Garvey Headcanons

Although they met in unfortunate circumstances, Sturges, Mama Murphy and the Longs are the closest thing he's ever had to a real family, as he lost his biological family at a young age and doesn't really remember them.

He expected to rise up the ranks of the Minutemen easily, but actually struggled at first and fell behind his peers a little. It did knock his confidence a lot, but he managed to work his way up, it just took him a bit longer.

Deathclaws just creep him out, more so than any other creatures in the Wasteland, the one in Concord didn't help that.

It's more or less canon that he has a lot of guilt regarding the Quincy Massacre, which is a big reason as to why he's hesitant to help out more settlements. He's worried about not being able to save people a second time around.

He bought Sunset Sarsaparilla from a trader from the Mojave once and no other drink has ever compared to it since, he's often considered heading out West just to get another bottle.

Piper managed to convince him to do an interview for the Publick once, about how the Minutemen had changed since Sole had taken over as the General. It was inevitably scrapped as he stumbled over his words so many times, there wasn't anything coherent that Piper could write about.

Despite most of the Minutemen he used to know being gone, he managed to track down some of the remnants and makes an effort to see them as often as he can. It's somewhat therapeutic to be able to recount old stories with them.

1; Be specific and unique

For example, the prompt "Sole dies". All characters would be sad, or angry. But the prompt, "Companions travel through a haunted forest and lose each other" has a lot of ways it can go. Vague prompts can be difficult for me to write, as there's often not much to write. Or if there is, it ends up feeling samey, or too short. There's only so much I can write about Sole dying.

Some prompts are answered in canon, and don't need to be answered. For example, Companions react to Sole speaking like the Silver Shroud. You can easily go on a wiki or find a compilation video on YouTube.

Also, I prefer to write about the companions, not Sole. So, requests about the Sole Survivor are likely to sit in the inbox for a while.

2; Be mindful of dark subject matter

Guys. You know miscarriage is a real thing, right? A horrible, traumatic thing that fucks up entire families? And same with rape, or abuse, or anything like that. Use your best judgement asking about heavier topics. These things aren't scenarios to generate angst. They're traumatic events. That real people go through.

I'll never forget following a react blog who was asked to write about miscarriage, only for them to apologize and refuse, as they had suffered multiple miscarriages themselves.

Rule 3; No fetishes or second-hand embarrassment prompts

So, I said be specific and weird...not with your own fetishs, please.

For non fetish stuff, I really do not care for toilet humor. Or anything meant to evoke second-hand embarrassment. This is another 'use best judgement'. I'm very easily grossed out by body fluids/excrement and there's no prompt that I'm willing to do with it.

Ghouls only turn feral in specific circumstances (suggestions include prolonged isolation and relying too heavily on radiation instead of food as a source of energy) and it is not inevitable

International travel and immigration continues

Danse and Harkness were sent to the Capital Wasteland by the Railroad together

X person is actually multiple people- suggested for Deacon, Legate Lanius and Vulpes Inculta

The US is the either the only place that was nuked or the only place that hasn't rebuilt and recovered, and the rest of the world is just ignoring them and carrying on as normal

Cass is the Chosen One's daughter

Mama Murphy is the Chosen One

No-Bark Noonan is the Chosen One (lots of Chosen One theories popping up lol)

All subsequent Dogmeats in the series are named after the legend of the original Dogmeat

The Mysterious Stranger is a time traveller who protects the various PCs to maintain the timeline

Appalachia was turned into a barren wasteland by the nuclear trigger-happiness of the Vault 76 Dwellers (possibly interesting aside: my brother, who buys into this one, has gone as far as to theorise that the original Great War used very low-yield weapons and wasn't that severe on the environmental level (as far as literal nuclear war goes, that is), and it was the Vault 76ers nuking the hell out of Appalachia that triggered a continent-wide nuclear winter and sent the ecology of the wasteland into the state it's in in all subsequent games)

Glory is not a synth

The (in-game) reason for lore clashes and retcons is that the plot of each game is a retelling  of the story as it's passed around in the wasteland, so some details have been embellished or mixed up

I’ll be coming back to the theories from the final question at some point, but aside from that, that's a wrap! There isn't really much potential for me to play around with the data here like with the OC surveys, so this was more just me presenting the data as it came in without commentary. Still, I hope this is somehow interesting/insightful!

I headcanon that...

Synthetic humans stem from prewar tech but was kept very secret. The Gary vault shows we had very rudimentary cloning tech and with the nuka world synthesis machine for gatorclaw we have confirmed clones with a stable structure. Gen 3 synths are just a perfection of prewar tech.

Preston needs glasses

Hancock was a dirty blonde before he became a ghoul

also his hair had a strawlike texture + was long

Isabel loves drawing with Shaun, and taught him how to draw the Mechanist :D

SS has so many pictures hung up in their old room made by Shaun and Isabel

SS used to go to Nuka World with their nieces and nephews, they got sprayed in the eye on accident from kiddie kingdoms sprayers and that's how they met Oswald (He was the only one who came to get them at the time lmao)

Kent and SS often like to talk about the unstoppable and have more than one heated debate about The Silver Shroud vs. Grognak

Preston and Piper are close friends and goof off a lot more than you'd think

The group got drunk the day they got rid of the Insitute, they somehow went from sanctuary to the castle, nearly broke Preston's arm on a swingset (????), and then got back to sanctuary before promptly passing out in a pile

Codsworth and Ada, the only two still sober seeing as unlike Nick they can't even try consuming liquor to fuck up their sensors, genuinely considered calling DIMA to stop these adults who act like teens

Sanctuary has a school ! Shaun goes there and one day, MacCready hopes to bring his son there too

Deacon, MacCready and Hancock are not allowed to be left alone together without supervision. They are called the Chaos Squad for a reason.

MacCready is basically Jake Peralta from B99

Deacon doesnt only dress up, he perfected every accent too

Nick and Deacon have night terrors about their past just about every other night

Cait's greetings are punches in the shoulder. And the punches leave bruises.

Gage hates feeling weak and helpless. That's the whole reason he joined the gangs at Nuka World. He doesnt like relying on others either and prefers his "independencey"

Preston is very self conscious and hates making even the slightest of mistakes.

X6-88 knows human anatomy. That's it.

Random Headcanons for: Porter Gage

☠ Is a fantastic cook. He initially learnt from his mum on the farm he grew up on, and had to get by on cooking for himself after he left. Most everywhere he went other people sucked at it, especially raiders, so he kept making his own food both as a trust issue and wanting it to not taste like shit to him. He has a naturally good sense for taste. Has no real idea how skilled of a cook he actually is until Sole points it out, he just thinks everyone else is shit at it.

☠ A big part of him never falling into drugs and alcohol was that when he tried his first drink, a beer, it tasted like shit to him. He just couldn't get over that to keep drinking. Didn't see the point. Compounding the terrible taste with watching people become dumb as rocks and get themselves killed while under the influence he's pretty firm in steering clear. Same story for chems.

☠ Is one of the people who helps Cait learn how to cook better. At first he didn't really want to lend a hand in that, but then he saw how huffy Preston got about it since it had mostly been his thing with Cait until then, so Gage kept it up primarily to piss Preston off.

☠ Got really sick of sugary foods after about a month in Nuka World. It’s like when you work with a certain food type and now you hate it. He'll still eat some occassionally, but for now he prefers just using sugary things to cook with, enhancing flavour or making syrups and preserves.

☠ Has a few tattoos. They don’t have any real meaning aside from being the general shit raiders put on their body to look more intimidating - chains, wire, a skull, etc.

☠ Gets motion sickness fairly easily. Has a bad habit of forgetting this. He'll still jump at the chance to ride in a vertibird though, that's just a classy way to get around.

☠ Naps a lot. He doesn’t sleep well, he’s been attacked in his sleep before so became a very light sleeper, and now that he’s ageing more (especially for a raider) he finds himself just generally tired more too. If he has a moment to relax somewhere there's a good chance you'll find he's drifted off, but he'll wake up long before you get within arms reach. Hell, probably before you're even in the same room as him.

☠ Want to see a raider freak out? Manage to sneak up and place a dead stingwing near him before he wakes up. Imagine the cat and cucumber meme. Preston did this once. Fair warning, there will be bloody retribution.

☠ He's smarter than he gives himself credit for, for sure. It's a mixed bag of intentionally playing himself down to be less threatening to rivals and actually believing he isn't that smart. Like with his cooking, he's just more likely to believe other people are shit than him being good. Leave him with something long enough though and he'll figure it out. His intellect at any given moment is mostly based on his motivation.

☠ If he thought he could tame a gatorclaw he would. Just to set it on people while he sits back and watches. Won't be the one stupid enough to try that shit though.

☠ Connor’s betrayal is how he lost his eye. He often considers himself lucky that that was all he lost but it’s a constant reminder of that first big betrayal. He sees some bitter irony in the fact that he was stabbed in the back and lost an eye for it, very sourly jokes that he should have seen it coming then. It's only halfway a joke.

☠ Sometimes his eye, or rather the area around it, hurts. It's worse with colder weather.

☠ Gage’s big ideas for Nuka World stem from the idea that he really could have gotten several raider gangs working together for Connor - even though it had turned out to be a trap from the start, he truly believed in the plan and held onto it. He's stubborn as all getout is the point.

☠ There's still an eye in there, it's just... not what an eye should look like. It's broken and shrivelled into the socket. He wears the eyepatch to protect the socket and what's left of the eye, he's filthy but he's not dumb. Wouldn't give a shit if people were just freaked out about seeing a strange looking eye, would intentionally freak them out. Does get a little conscious about it with a romanced Sole if they haven't seen under the patch yet. It's not pretty.

☠ Sing his praises to the high heavens, but he gets all blushy and lost for words with soft flirtation. He can do sexy time and crude innuendos just fine, but genuine affection? Foreign concept. He’s liking it though, just... keep it to private moments.

☠ Learns that he loves being touched gently. Because as a raider he's hardly been touched in a way that wasn't meant to hurt, or at least be rough, even for pleasure. Lowkey touch starved. Is secretly a big softy for hand holding - but only ever in private, and not for too long. Will also pretend he's just letting Sole do it for their own sake, he'll admit that shit over his dead body.

☠ Loves oral, both giving and receiving. He enjoys giving it to people and making them lose it from his mouth, it gives him a sense of power to watch someone unravel because of what he's doing to them. "See, Boss? This smart mouth of mine is good for more than just complainin'."

☠ Down to try just about anything. The filthier the better. Likes the way sex makes people loosen their inhibitions, and again the power rush it gives him to have someone in these positions.

☠ Prefers to be in charge in these situations, but he'll enjoy a switch up every now and then. In a relationship with Sole he enjoys the power imbalance of them technically being his boss, especially when he gets to play with that and switch the roles around in sex.

☠ Had a (mostly sexual) relationship with Connor. Gage was young and impressionable and genuinely fell for him, Connor was using him right from the start. Hasn't had a romantic relationship with anyone since, though it's not like he's had to turn down many people.

⌚️ How old were they when they entered the vault? Were they born in there? Or alternatively, are they from Vault 76 at all? (if not, where are they from and how did they end up in West Virginia?)

Jeff is not from Vault 76, nor is he a vault dweller whatsoever. He was born in West Virginia to parents who were a part of the Appalachian Free States. However, he did experience life underground when he was around 8 years old. 

🤝 Do they have any other CAMP allies? (either in-game or added via headcanon)

Brian 🦩

Jeff met Brian at one of the lowest moments of his life. He was still trying to make sense of everything following his disastrous new beginning, all while trying to stay alive. 

Rather than choosing to live a somewhat peaceful life on the cliffs between Slocum's Joe and Arktos Pharma, Jeff left the safe haven that he built for himself and continued on his adventure.

Wilson Brother's Auto Repair became his temporary home base while on the road. And all was going well enough until the night when scorched hordes surrounded the building. 

Panicked, Jeff grabbed the rifle that he picked up in Berkeley Springs and commanded a lone plastic flamingo to keep an eye on the garage. In the same moment, he gave the flamingo a name: Brian.

Together, Jeff and Brian managed to fight off the scorched and save the garage; but, Jeff wasn't ready to face another horde at this point. So, the pair packed up everything and left, searching for another place to call home. 

Today, Jeff and his best friend Brian are constantly building/rebuilding, helping others, and going on adventures together. Their recent trip to Nuka-World on Tour (pictured below) was so much fun! 

Brian would tell you that along with being Jeff's most powerful ally, he is also the CEO and acting secretary of the Jeff Stone Complaint Department™️

⭐️ The Free States?

Jeff was just a child amidst the growing tension between his extended family and most everyone. He would hear whispers of treachery and scandal and notice the accusatory stares coming from his neighbors. Much of this was beyond him at the time, yet still managed to upset him. 

With said tension and the threat of war becoming more of a reality with each passing day, the Free States sheltered underground. They remained there until it was finally safe to re-emerge and rebuild again. 

Post-war, Jeff was able to experience something that could resemble normalcy. The Free States made their home in Harpers Ferry and offered assistance to other survivors and their factions. Unfortunately, all of their efforts would come to an end with the emergence of scorchbeasts and the plague that ultimately spread throughout The Mire and beyond.

Jeff lost his mother and father, his extended family and friends. He was among few survivors of the scorched attacks and felt tremendous guilt because of it. 

(Not so much related to the Free States, but the following is for you, @jonnyonearth ❤️)

Jeff carried his guilt with him as he traveled across the map in search of folks like himself and safety. It was a difficult journey, but he was able to eventually find both of those things in the Forest–and yet his new beginning almost ended before it even started. 

A vault dweller turned wasteland nurse, Emily, found an unresponsive Jeff next to one of the saddest C.A.M.P. creations she had ever laid eyes on. She saved his life that day as her and another wastelander, a preacher, brought Jeff down to her clinic. Even in the present day, Emily still teases Jeff about the whole ordeal, especially the moment when Jeff realized he was sporting some strange gadget on his wrist. 

Jeff started to understand the Free States through holotapes, notes, and hushed stories shared over drinks. Among his personal belongings are Free States items that he has collected over the years. 💙

CENTRIFUGAL FORCECREADY

Headcanon about RJ here is he vocally hates the idea of approaching the centrifugal force stick-you-to-the-wall ride at Nuka-World BUT is internally excited and very much wants to get on the ride BUT he gets on it and hates it anyway. Upon exiting he says "heh.. that wasn't so bad, that was kinda fun actually" to convince himself but also SoSu that it wasn't that bad but SoSu THEN asks if he wants to get back on because they think he liked it actually and then his stomach DROPS
