And when you’re greedy, you are on the path to the dark side, because you fear you’re going to lose things, that you’re not going to have the power you need.” --George Lucas, Time magazine There's also another quote where he basically says they're really in love but it becomes kinda dysfunctional by the end, but I can't find the direct quote again, so take it with a grain of salt. The point behind the above collection of quotes is that Anidala is both, that it's genuine love--it has to be genuine love for the story to work--and it's toxic--it has to be toxic for the story to work. The whole story is that Anakin fell into attachment (the fear of being without someone, so much that you would do terrible things or rip yourself to pieces over it, that's the Buddhist-aligned definition and the one Star Wars is working with) because he became so greedy and possessive of her that he was willing to murder children just to keep the fear of her death at bay. But in order to be a tragic story, in order for us to care about the relationship and the characters in it, it also has to be genuine and true, there has to be real love there. Ultimately, yes, it was a destructive relationship because that's the basic premise of the story--Anakin's love turned to attachment, it turned to greed, it turned to possessiveness, it turned to horror--that there are signs all along the way, but that the sweet moments are genuine, too, that their laughter in the grass on Naboo is real, that their ache for each other as the war kept them apart was real, that Padme's excitement about having their baby was real, because none of them were monsters when they started out, not even Anakin, for all that he forged himself into one. Our hearts wouldn't break for monsters if there was no love in them to start with. (Whether someone thinks this was well done or not, that's a different argument to be had! But I think fundamentally the thing the story was going for is that they started out sweet, but Anakin's fears and Padme's desire to look the other way over his terrible acts, took them to a very unhealthy, awful place in the end.)

hi hi riley!!! ikoku nikki is sooooo good right <3 i'm glad you've enjoyed my recs, it makes me so happy when people like the stuff i recommend :') and re: how i find new manga to read. i will try to be brief (1/342)

anilist: i follow a lot of people who read the same genres/demographics as i do (or people who just read a lot in general). this is how i find most of the stuff i read. it's easy + thanks to that you can find works that like 3 people know the existence of. how? if i really like a manga i go to its page on anilist, go to the social section and check some random accounts there who've also read it and i swear i've found so many anilist mutuals who have impeccable taste by doing that lol (and then i follow the people they follow and so on). i check anilist often so when i see someone reading smth that seems interesting, there it goes into my tbr. in anilist you also have a section at the bottom of a manga's page where people include works that they think are similar, i check that all the time as well.

manga accs: i follow manga accounts on twt that post manga recs or updates and i also get a LOT of stuff from there. you can find podcasts/youtubers that talk about manga by checking these accs as well. i don't have any to recommend myself tho bc i don't watch yt or listen to podcasts 🧍

other stuff i do: from time to time i check the twt accs or websites of us/france manga publishers to see what they're licensing (tho accs like manga mogura re and shoujosei news usually post updates on that). i check japanese magazines websites as well! and checking manga sites is an option too but it's dangerous like no one wants go to on mangago and see several of the worst hentai they've ever laid their eyes on just to find One good manga but well. sometimes it works.

in conclusion what i recommend the most (or what works the best for me) is checking those accs i've mentioned before and finding gay people in anilist with good taste 💯💯💯

Gerry stared at the person in front of him. They were a distortion, like an actual distortion. He had caught a glimes of it in the que window’s reflection. Gerry had never seen someone who had a truly realized power before, and especially not at this young of an age. He had glimpsed several people today around him who were also touched to various degrees of power on his way to the pharmacy, and even here in the pharmacy. Several people were touched to various degrees by an assortment of powers like himself. With his beholding he looked. A lady by the magazines writhing with corruption. a gentleman who did not keep a consistent face by the lotions. A couple where one was with the spider and the other who appeared to be a strategist. That was either a perfect match or a living hell for the two of them and Gerry could only guess. Though none of them caught his attention like the distortion, how could it not? Someone who could hold a proper title like a true distortion was impressive. The tall person in front of him finally had their turn at the pharmacy window. Gerry could now see their face for the first time. They really could not be much older than himself. The distortion paid and turned to leave, instead it stopped. Right in front of Gerry. They had such eyes, bright and blue green, like a gemstone. They were looking right at him. “ugh, can I help you?” Gerry snapped back to reality “what?” “Dude you are staring at me” he had been, his own power had consumed him there for a second. “oh I’m sorry, I just got, just, no sorry” “umm ok whatever.” the distortion moved elegantly to and out the exit. Gerry sighed and embarrassed he shuffled his way up to the wind and ow.

hello! love your trans art, and I was wondering if you use any references for the bigger trans dudes you draw or if it's all from your head at this point? mc in a project im working on rn is a fat and strong trans dude and it's SO hard to find references to practice!! (or I just don't know where to look for them; even if you have ideas for where to find pics of big cis dudes w/o hollywood six packs and a tiny waist i'd be most grateful!) P.S. If you don't, no problem!! still glad i could jump in here to tell you your art is fire and makes my trans heart so glad to see it on my dash, always a guaranteed +50 HP

hi there, tysm <:) that means so much to me!!

as for what i use -- a lot of what i draw is from my head, but that's not completely from memory. i use anatomy books and look at how they break down fat + the human form while i work. i like this better than using just references because it means i'm able to see someone else break down WHY it looks like that, instead of just having to reverse engineer it myself. getting in the habit of looking at it like shapes has helped when i didn't have any references for a specific pose. i recommend the morpho series for this alongside whatever references youre using!

but if you're looking for references, i like using scans from lgbt magazines, photoshoots, and the like! studying them helps a lot. they can be harder to find but archives are definitely your friend here. & if you have a specific fatter actor you're really attached to but the photos are too edited, maybe look at them in interviews or how they move in tv? motion is a lot harder to heavily doctor like that.

also for practice, draw your friends! draw people you see on the news, draw outside, draw people you see around you in public. itll get you used to how people Actually Look, and it helps you unlearn a lot from drawing only models.

WhiteRose Week 2023: Day 5

Girl Kisser | Maid Cafe AU

Weiss lays down on her couch and fans herself with a magazine that was nearby. Her roommate, Coco, walks in and sees Weiss. “C’mon, kid,” Coco says. “You have to stop working yourself to death.” Weiss glares at her and sighs. “No counter? That’s a new one from you.”

“I’m too tired today, dunce,” Weiss groans. Coco sits down on the couch. “Hey!”

“You’re small enough for both of us to be on the couch,” Coco jabs. “Relax.” Coco pulls out a flier and gives it to Weiss. Weiss inspects the flier.

Bun-Bun Maid Cafe

Where all your troubles go to rest.

Food! Desert! Drinks!

Weiss tosses it back to Coco. “You really think I would like something like this?” Weiss scorns.

“We all know you’re a girl kisser,” Coco jests and Weiss blushes. “Even if you weren’t, a friend of mine works there. I think it’d be nice if we went.”

“Fine,” Weiss grunts. “Just once, okay?”

“Fine. Whatever to get you out of the house.”

Weiss stared at the front of the cafe and rubbed her forehead. “This is stupid,” she whispered and Coco glared at her. Coco pushed Weiss to the door. Weiss bites her lip and enters the cafe. She had to admit, it was cute. All the waitresses were dressed nicely and it reminded her of her father’s mansion. However, unlike that hellscape, the cafe also had a homey feeling to it with the warm lighting and a good amount of greenery on the walls. On display were various types of cakes and pastries. It was all so sweet.

Well, maybe a bit too sweet because Weiss then saw a blonde maid hand-feeding a dark-haired customer with cat ears. Her eyes widen in horror and slowly begins to walk away. “Hello!” a maid with rabbit ears said. “You’re Coco’s roommate, right.” Weiss nods and tries to formulate a plan for how to get out through the door. “She’s told me so much about you. Please, take a seat.” The girl begins to drag Weiss to a table and sits her down. “Girls, get her a menu.” The blonde girl gave Weiss a menu and smirked at her. Weiss blushes and looks away.

“If you need anything, just ask for Velvet,” the blonde says. “She’s pretty much the captain of this place.”

“May I ask you something?” Weiss asks and the blonde nods. “You aren’t going to feed me like you did the other girl?” The blonde laughs.

“No!” Weiss sighs in relief as the burden has been lifted. “I only do it to her because she’s my girlfriend. Plus, you’re really going to have to push for your waitress to do that.”

“My waitress?” Weiss asks as another customer walks in.

“Oop, gotta go,” she says. “If you need me, ask for Yang.”

Yang walks away and Weiss looks at the menu. She could get a salad, but something about this place made her think that she should indulge just a bit. “Do you know what you’d like to order?” a waitress asks. Weiss looks up and is greeted by the cutest girl she’s ever seen with the cutest smile. Her silver eyes were as brilliant as Weiss’s jewelry. Her hair was brushed perfectly and was dyed red at the tips. She was cute and Weiss’s blushing face showed it. “Um…I was wondering if you’d like to order anything?” Weiss woke up from her trance.

“Oh. Forgive me…let me get um…” Where was Weiss’s words? For the first time in her life, she struggled to get words out. She could only muster one word. “Cake.”

“What kind of cake?” Weiss looked around for something and she saw a strawberry pin on the waitress's dress.

“Strawberry, please.” The waitress’s eyes light up and smiles brightly. Weiss began to blush again.

“You like strawberries?!” the girl asks. Weiss nods. “I love strawberries!”

“Wow…” Weiss whispers. “Marry me.”

“What?” the maid says.

“What?” Weiss says back with flaring cheeks.

“Well, Ruby Rose will be back with your cake,” Ruby says and she walks away.

“O-okay Ruby,” Weiss mumbles.

That would not be the last time Weiss would go to the cafe. And it wasn’t because of the food, although the cakes were delicious. Rather, Weiss would come to talk to Ruby. Something about her made Weiss’s heart skip a beat. Was it the way she looked? How sweet she was?

Or was it something…deeper?

She enters the cafe and sees Yang feeding Blake (her girlfriend is named Blake), and she wonders if she could have that with Ruby. Weiss sits down and looks at the menu. “Cake again, Weiss?” Ruby asks. Weiss puts down the menu and sighs.

What should she say? She knows what she wants but can she get it? Will it be so unattainable that her heart will shatter to nothing? Weiss bites her lip and begins to speak. “I want more…” Weiss mumbles as she looks at Ruby.

“Well, I can always get you more than just cake,” Ruby says with her signature smile. Weiss wanted to tear her hair out as Ruby smiled at her.

“No! Not like that, dolt,” Weiss explains.

“Then what do you mean?”

Weiss sits up and stares Ruby dead in the eye. “I want more with you,” Weiss says.

“Huh?” Ruby gasps. Weiss attempts to take her hands but thinks second of it.

“Do you…want to have a drink with me somtime? My treat,” Weiss offers softly.

“Are you asking me on a date?” Ruby asks.

“Y-Yes,” Weiss stutters as she nods. “I would like it if we got closer.”

“Sure,” Ruby beams.

“Great. How does Sunday night sound?”

“Sounds great.”

Ruby begins to write down her number on her notepad and gives it to Weiss. “Call me,” Ruby says. Weiss nods and holds the number in her hand.

She has a number.

She has a date.

Does she have a girlfriend now?

Velvet smiles at the exchange and sends the picture she took of them to Coco. Coco replies with two words.

“Girl kisser.”

SHINY COLORS FASHION ANALYSIS: Yuika Mitsumine (三峰結華)

"I'm an idol… it feels kind of strange…"

This is a project analyzing and taking a look at the fashion design and application in the multimedia series, The IDOLM@STER: Shiny Colors. This section is about the eccentric and lively subculture girl of the series, Yuika Mitsumine! If you want to jump to a specific section, go here!

Before starting the analysis, I would suggest if you haven’t already, read her W.I.N.G. (introductory) commu (through the broswer game's English patch or on YouTube). If you don’t play the game, I would listen to her image song and read the lyrics to get a better sense of her character.

STYLE BREAKDOWN

Consisting of many different fashion elements, Yuika’s personal fashion is easily identifiable though hard to define. Labelled a “subculture girl,” her open-minded personality leads Yuika to incorporate various styles into her own while still looking unique & fashion-forward.

Before diving into her fashion, I’ll expand on her label as a “subculture girl” using this graphic. “Sabukaru” is more of a cultural movement rather than a fashion style, with personal fashion and expression being varied amongst members dependent on their hobbies.

Yuika’s fashion is mainly inspired from aomoji-kei or blue letter style, explaining her versatile & unique wardrobe. Formerly used as a catch-all for Harajuku fashion, it describes cute & casual fashion that doesn’t appeal to men with a motto of “wearing what you want to wear.”

Popular aomoji-kei magazines like Zipper, FRUiTS, and KERA! covered many different styles and brands, inspired by streetsnaps in Harajuku. The insides featured many experimental and exciting coordinates as sort of a counter against mainstream fashion and the male gaze.

Though all the magazines above have ceased production due to a change in audience and trends, the Aomoji-kei movement still lives on through brands, digital newsletters, and the thriving fashion culture of Harajuku. Also, magazines like mini and SO-EN are still around today.

This diagram from Asahi Sato shows that Aomoji-kei is split into many styles ranging from simple & girly to individualistic & sporty. The next few tweets identify major groups that Yuika’s fashion is drawn from, but keep in mind there is heavy overlap & won't include all of them.

Group 1 of her various styles I dub her “original style.” This style is highly featured in her default outfits and many other early cards of hers. Heavily influenced by the kawaii, amekaji, pop, & original harajuku street-style trendsetters, this style is very fun and eccentric!

Group 2 is less showy than Group 1, with a more conventional elements that reflect modern street style, but still show Yuika’s eccentricity and skill of outfit composition. Appearing after the peak of her “kawaii pop” style, it’s a more casual and laid-back style comparably.

Group 3 is the most mature, elegant, and “smart” pool of looks that Yuika wears. Featuring a mix of solids and simple patterns, dark and neutral colors, and elements of the mode casual and feminine styles, it’s a group that shows off a more simple but modish side to her.

Though I categorize her styles in groups, Yuika’s style can’t really be categorized. They bleed between different groups or don’t fit into any at all. These groups were made for people to identify her weared trends, but compartmentalizing her style doesn’t really fit her at all.

Now I would like to talk about some common elements of Yuika’s fashion that appear, regardless of style inspiration. The most famous are her trademark glasses and baseball caps, customized so they fit any look she wears.

Two more essential elements of her personal style are her frequent & variable use of pattern & color clashing and colorblocking & color theory in outfit composition. These being mainstays in her fashion make it as versatile and interesting as it can get.

This tweet shows four outfits and how she applies clashing, color theory, and conceptual importance to make them exciting, unique, & varied. Though a wide range of style influences and colors are used, all these outfits are “Yuika-core” connected by common styling values.

The above section was written inspired by a blog talking about Yuika’s fashion sense, so I would like to give them thanks for well-written another perspective on her style.

No need to talk about her fashion’s color palette as she doesn’t limit her fashion to a specific group of colors, but her image color is a medium-blue like sky or rain. For such an outgoing personality, her image color has a weight to it which we will cover in the next section.

STYLE ANALYSIS

Yuika was scouted by Producer while taking shelter from the rain, coming back from an idol-merchandise haul. Upon seeing her smile and how much she loves idols, he asks her if she wants to become an idol.

She finds it hard to believe she actually got scouted and thinks it’s some kind of elaborate prank, but she accepts the offer and becomes an idol. It’s later revealed that she wanted to become one due to being curious about the world of idols and wanting to be admired.

To fans and the members of L’antica, Yuika acts as the moodmaker and jokester of the group, always having a huge smile on her face and constantly cracking jokes and making merry. She’s the initial glue that bonds L’Antica together and always makes sure everyone is feeling happy.

As to why she’s so outgoing, it’s revealed that it comes from interacting with other idol otaku at live shows but she keeps this a secret from most people. She is a diehard idol fan of many female groups, collecting merch and going to handshake events.

In fact, most people know that Yuika is a “subculture” girl and has many public interests like fashion, photography, and manga. However, she keeps her insane idol hobby under wraps, even hiding merch from the L’antica girls when they visit her place.

One special quirk of Yuika is her high degree of reading the atmosphere and sensing the mood of the room quickly. In her Landing Point, she reveals she keeps her otaku hobbies a secret because when she would talk to her friends about anime, she felt the vibe get uncomfortable.

Yuika is really sensitive to the vibe getting rancid in fact, feeling uncomfortable if everyone isn’t feeling content. She will do anything to make everyone feel comfortable, even putting her own feelings on the back burner if she feels it would unnecessarily complicate things.

Even with the Producer, she is known for hiding her true feelings and masking it with her outgoing personality and deflecting issues that bother her, burdening herself instead. She doesn’t like to show signs of weakness and keeps a well-hidden distance from most people.

In cards like “NOT≠EQUAL,” “Dizzy Dizzy,” and “No Life,” she is also shown to be very self-critical and barrages herself with deprecating comments. She only discloses these feelings with Producer, as she feels bad troubling anyone else with her “trivial” problems.

Her image song, “Plastic Umbrella,” discusses her habit of hiding who she really is and keeping a boundary from most people to “protect the peace.” Not wanting to “bump into anyone” but also “wanting someone to find her,” this paradox of personality is everpresent.

Though her personality is somewhat hard to explain, her fashion really eludicates who she is as a person. At first glance, her style is very eyecatching and eccentric, but not in an intimidating way. It’s very fun and doesn’t take itself too seriously in a way that is amiable.

However, if you look closer you’ll see that a lot of care and meticulous detail is put into her outfits. The colors, patterns, silhouette, composition, mood, atmosphere, accessories, clothes, etc. are all specifically picked to fit each other in a way that is incredibly skilled.

As said by others, Yuika has an incredible eye for detail with people, but this expands to her fashion as well. She is good at studying, remembering, and applying knowledge to situations, seen in how variable her fashion influences are but still maintaining a cohesive style.

Personally, I would describe her “fun” fashion as an mechanism of lowering others’ guard similar to her outgoing personality, masking her real feelings. Not to say that her fashion is ingenuous, but it helps make other people feel at ease regardless of intention.

Yuika’s style evolution is hard to spot, but major style influences she wears change with time. Out of all the Shiny Colors girls, Yuika definitely has the most unique take on fashion & the fact that it’s also a commentary on herself (both shown and hidden) is the cherry on top.
