Back on me ranting about how much I hate Sylki bc I’m bitter, I had one thought that @bifrost-glitter touched on and I want to explore in depth-

What if, for the Loki and Sylvie pairing, we switched the genders?

What if it was a female protagonist who ran into a badass male warrior with a Tragic (tm) past?

imagine the woman falling head over heels for a badass male warrior she knew for 12 hours and dedicating herself to him and gushing over him…defending his every action.

Imagine the man says harsh things. Doesn’t really listen to her. Doesn’t acknowledge when she is kind to him. And the woman gushing about how tragic he is and how she will fight for and do anything for him. And when they do fight, she is shown as incompetent and he is so much stronger and better and she is just there to go “wow!”

And when they are reunited, he shows no remorse and won’t listen to her…nly for him to manipulate her feelings, make fun of her, call her names, belittle her, be stronger than her. Kiss her briefly to distract her all while she keeps begging him and acting all she wants is his happiness…and he ultimately betrays her for his own gain. And she still holds no anger and easily forgives him and searches the world for him?

If that was the case, there would be whole articles in newspapers about it being toxic and a bad example for young people, especially young girls, to watch to expect for a romantic relationship. The fandom and watchers would be all “omg! Poor little meow meow! Dump his ass! You deserve better than him, queen! He doesn’t deserve you! He is such trash!! I want to snuggle her in a blankie and tell her everything will be okay!”

But…*sigh* because it’s a woman abusing a man, it’s okay. It’s a “girlboss and malewife” dynamic and it’s romantic and Empowering (tm). (Also, watch The Gilded Age for The Russell’s for an example of a Girlboss and Malewife romantic relationship that is both healthy and well written while still engaging). There’s something going on on the cardiac floor that you just… can’t quite put your finger on.

This isn’t the first hospital you’ve worked at, but you’re also new to urban healthcare, so you don’t want to rock the boat by being paranoid. But traffic from the cardiac floor is… steady. You’ve read the papers, know the stats like the back of your hand. And the cardiac floor is perfectly in line with expected trends. Every. Month.

There are fluctuations, of course. Plus or minus three to seven lives is nothing remarkable in cardiology. Macabre, maybe, but true. But that’s unnatural. In the seven months you’ve worked here, you’ve seen waves elsewhere in the hospital. The plastics floor had a month with zero deaths followed by a month of a persistent infection sweeping through the otherwise reasonably healthy patients. Oncology has seen a steady decline in patients sent your way, thank goodness. Even emergency and intensive care aren’t as fixedly consistent as the cardiac floor.

When you wonder about it aloud to the director, Dr. Martins just shrugs. “We have a good team up there. Very good at keeping things clean and double and triple checking their work.”

“But if that’s the case, then the number of deaths should be going down,” you point out.

Dennis gives you a rueful smile. “That’s not always how human bodies work, unfortunately. You know that.”

You do know that. Which is why the consistency grates against your nerves. So you decide to do a little digging.

The name that comes up the most often in the chart notes is one Kyle Garrick.

That’s actually not 100% accurate. He’s charting exactly the way he’s supposed to. And no nurse has complete, individual access to patients 24/7. But every dying patient he has access to is… perfect. Their blood work, labs, vitals, prognosis, medication adherence and refusal is almost too-the-letter, textbook precise.

The most obvious answer is that Garrick, and probably a couple of other nurses on the floor, are fudging the numbers.

The idea is infuriating. You hate the way the administrators keep changing medical record systems just as much as the next person, but inaccurate charting is a safety issue. People can, have, and do die because someone writes down the wrong timing for medications or assumes that a patient’s vitals are unchanged. If anything, this is probably worse than that. The fact that everything is so pristine probably means that some patients are just being written off. The nurses might be deciding who gets the excellent care the hospital is known for and who gets neglected.

You stay three hours late investigating the next cardio patient that ends up in your morgue.

After examining the body and reading, rereading, and re-re-re-reading his chart, you find it. A stutter in the dosages of blood thinners, a slightly higher blood pressure reading from someone who isn’t nurse Kyle fucking Garrick. Just enough evidence to have you testing the body with an aspirometer almost too late. And there it is. A fatal air embolism.

You want to scream, but the dead man doesn’t deserve that.

Three weeks later, sipping from your water bottle, someone calls into the office. “Knock knock.”

Dennis practically lights up. “"Good morning, Kyle. Been a bit since you've come to see us. Care for some tea?"

Your eyebrows shoot up. Dr Martins hates unexpected visitors. Then you look over your shoulder, and you understand. Even old queens aren't immune to pretty privilege. The man that’s leaning in the doorway is gorgeous. Maybe its because you work with dead bodies all day, but his eyes and skin seem to glow, even under the fluorescents.

"Can't," the man says, apologetically. "Just dropping someone off."

"Well, at least let me introduce our new nurse!"

The fact that you’re wiping crumbs off of your mouth over a paper plate is the only reason no one sees your face fall when you hear him say, “Nice to meet you. Kyle Garrick.”

A/n: thank you for your request love hopefully it's to your liking.

Shuri grabs her keys and waits for you "we're going to the store why do you need to get dressed?" You look her up and down "the real question is why are you not getting dressed? I'm not going to get eyed or judged by someone's auntie because I'm showing a little too much skin." Shuri laughs as you pull your dress over your legs and make sure it stops to a reasonable mid thigh. You look at her in her tank and she agrees going to grab a hoodie.

You both arrive at the store all you need are a few groceries but you both know the basket will be full before you leave. You're quick to grab a basket and Shuri raises her brow "we only need a few things" you nod "the baskets for me" you carefully climb in and Shuri just watches you her very grown wife climb into a Walmart basket in front of everyone Shuri carefully covers your behind as your dress raises ever so slightly. When you sit down you smile at her but she just shakes her head "you're a big fucking kid" you shrug your shoulders because it's true and you're not ashamed of it. "You knew this when you met me" you slouch down into the basket as Shuri pushes you around picking up the items you both need like toilet paper and feminine products. When you make it the feminine isle you see Shuri eyeing an opened douche confusedly you pick it up and she jumps "put that back we don't where that's been" "it hasn't been used they probably just looked at it" Shuri grabs a broom from the other isle and knockes it out of your hands causing you to look at her and roll your eyes. "Now pick it up" she looks at you and shakes her head "I'm not touching that I don't know where it's been" she tries to pick it up with the broom and you just watch her overly dramatic scream and jump when it almost touches her. You're tempted to leave the basket and help but it's kind of funny watching her struggle and freak. This is the same woman who wears the black panther suit?

You start recording using your kimoyo beads your snickering turns her attention to you though and she grabs your wrist "delete that" you shake your head and snatch your wrist "absolutely not I'm going to show mother how much of a germophobe she made." Shuri shakes her head as you end the recording "if you had to see how dirty things were constantly in a lab you'd be weary of what you touch too." "Nah you're just scared of a little douche juice." A child walks past and Shuri gets his attention he immediately smiles at Shuri "Queen Shuri" a smile runs quick to your face something about shuri with children has always made you smile she's good with them. Sometimes. "You want to do me a favor little man?" He nods "pick that up and put it right there" he does as told and Shuri smiles at him "where's your mama?" He smiles "over here." He tries to grab Shuri's arm but she grabs his wrist instead she seriously does not like unsanitary things. That includes children with grabby hands he leads her to the isle next to you both and she smiles at the woman. Shuri hooks her hand into the basket pulling you along. "Could I buy him something? He did me a favor." The woman is quick to respond "yes absolutely" Shuri smiles "I'll bring him back to you" Shuri all but tosses the kid onto your lap "you're queen Y/n" he smiles up at you and you can't help but smile "yes and you are?" "My name is Teshawn" as you talk to the little kid Shuri opens your purse and covers her hands in sanitizer and the childs.

Teshawn rides with you both as you shop for the day he does whatever Shuri does. It's is kind of cute he's like a little mini Shuri she grabs a box of cereal he grabs a box of cereal she grabs tissue he grabs tissue. Shuri of course can't tell him no. She lets the basket fill up when you both finally reach the last item you climb out of the basket with Shuri's help and plant a soft kiss on her lips forgetting Teshawn's existence for a moment. As Shuri pecks your lips a few times she gently pulls your dress down over your thighs. Teshawn covers his eyes as you both pull away "mama says you two are in love is that true?" You turn your attention to him "I don't know if that's the right word there are many like enchanted, captivate-" "devoted to?" You nod at his question "how do you know that word?" He shrugs "I don't know."

You run off for one last item and Shuri waits keeping the little man entertained which isn't hard. When you come back holding fake flowers Shuri sighs "baby what do we need that for?" You shrug "so we can stop buying real flowers perhaps?" You drop Teshawn a flower and give one to Shuri who can't help but s.ack your bare legs with the plastic you immediately smack her back with yours hitting her in the neck Teshawn jumps out of the basket and hits Shuri with his own fake plant fighting her legs "don't hit my queen" Shuri watches as he tries to bite her "your queen? This is my wife" he shakes his head "nope she's my wife" Shuri gasps "how dare you? You just gone take my woman little man?" He nods "yep she likes me more anyways." You laugh at their little back and forth bickering which happens the whole way to checkout.

The woman thanks Shuri while you hug Teshawn he looks at Shuri and sticks his tongue out "my woman" Shuri can't help but laugh. "I'm so sorry" you both shake your heads "no problem at all" Shuri remarks.

As soon as you both get into the car Shuri looks at you "you do know that's why we're not having kids right? We went in for five things left with fifty and he thinks you're his woman." You laugh as Shuri shakes her head "what happened to no problem at all?" She laughs "I lied."

he thinks you're joking at first. like this is some weird new covid test or something -- but after assuring him that it's legit he gets terrified. the thought of becoming a dad has crossed his mind in the past, sure -- but not now.

i feel like he'll ghost you for a few days -- depending on how long it takes for jean/armin/whoever to convince him he's being an asshole

but then he's at your doorstep, almost in tears, telling you that he's sorry and that he's here for you no matter what. he's willing to step up and take care of the kid -- his kid.

he just treats you like a normal girlfriend for the first while, so nothing is noticeably different at first, except he stays over more than usual and he holds your hand in public

but the first time you go for an ultrasound and you hear the baby's heartbeat.................. this man is in tears.

from then on, he treats you like a queen. he doesn't let you lift a finger because he wants you to focus all your energy on "making our baby big and strong" 🥺

he stops going out to parties every weekend and spends more time chilling at home with you. even starts taking school a little bit more seriously now that he's got a family he has to take care of

(and the first time he catches himself thinking of you and the baby as his family..... he has to pause for a second and just sit with his thoughts -- that's the second time it really hits him that he's about to be a dad after hearing the heartbeat)

he even starts looking up different foods that you should eat to help your baby be healthy, things to avoid, etc. etc. he gets kinda crazy about it, tbh and practically forces you to stay in bed all day and it's not until the doctor says that he's overreacting that he stops

the first time he feels the baby kick, he's full on crying. he's got his hand on your stomach, palms pressed softly against you until he feels the little kick! and then he's looking at you with wide eyes, mouth agape like "babe, i felt it! i felt him kick!" (because he's convinced it's gonna be a boy)

he helps decorate the baby's room with you, and despite his insistence that it should be blue and boy-ish, you convince him to make it gender-neutral just in case. so he paints it a soft green and he builds the crib and the two of you start to get really excited about welcoming a new baby into the world

when you go into labour, he's already ready. he's had a go-bag for you in his trunk for the past few weeks. maybe he's in class when it happens, but the second he sees your text he's rushing to meet you at the hospital -- sprinting out of class yelling "i'm gonna be a dad!"

he gets dressed up in scrubs and ties back his hair so he can sit with you in the delivery room, holding your hand tight and breathing with you as you give birth

his eyes light up when he hears the baby crying for the first time and the doctor announces, "she's a girl!"

his heart feels tight when he sees you holding her for the first time and you point out that she has his eyes. he just can't help but look at the two of you, smiling so hard that his face hurts.
