PUZZLEVISION SERIES - THE MARIO MYSTERIES (BLUES CLUES)
[SPOILER!]
Tumblr media
By 5 cards it was a cover... and I think my theory was correct when I mentioned the 5 of the crew.
So now we have finally got an easter egg and also the rating poppin up-
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since we're not sure the 5 cards (we'll call it that-) is gonna be all SMG4 and Mario focused videos- does that mean it will be up to the other three? Or are we gonna have more childhood show just like blues clues but the others?
Puzzlevision controls them all- (this is kind of an OP or- Over Powered antagonist) but I think PV came in just to steal the spotlight and make the crews life hell.
Will they find a way? An escape to break reality? Will they succeed to save their friends? How long of the episodes will it take for the two to realize they've been trapped in this simulation set up by PV?
Will it take more than just one hint (hint- the trios are stuck) In another world where PV kept them on prison? Four and Mario need to wake up soon. But how would that be possible?
If we finished it to 1-5 episodes of the cards- we have to finalize the rating between the 1 star and 5 star rating...
There is just- no way- there will be a character who dies during the process... right...? (Cough- dont let that happen-)
What would happen if we gave a 1 star rating...? Will pv hurt them? We're not sure because then again- the casts are important to keep this show running.
And if 5 stars were full- I think there will be more entertaining shows for fun... on loop.
Either 5 cards with two main focused (with pv moderating them) characters who go on their journey.
Or another character focused...?
Will there be a flashback about how the two got controlled by the adware himself? Because everyone... atleast to meggy- sounded weird... (not saying they were all in different voice actors) the pitch and tone- sounded so- i dunno a bit robotic?
The three characters are screaming for help eughhhhhhhhh
Where are the other crew...?
I dont know what to expect but yeaaa

Spoilers for the MY BLOODY VAMPIRE shows in January 2024!
I saw on Twitter that an old magazine covered Dir en grey's first series of concerts with that name, actually mixed with a couple that were called "MY BLOODY ZOMBIE" instead. Seeing as we don't have much info from back then I hunted down that magazine in hopes of learning more bout what Dir en grey might do in January 2024. As it turns out, there were quite a few similarities!
Apparently, at first Papa Roach played as background music until the show started. Then, every band member walked on stage one by one as usual, but Kyo showed up with a big white mouse costume head (reminescent of the Child Prey PV? which had come out earlier that year). When the first song started, he took off the mouse head and appeared to have white foam or liquid at his mouth. It grew until he eventually spat out a lot of (fake) blood. That was in the first song, but it didn't stop there. Throughout at least the first part of the concert, Kyo continuously spat out more and more blood. The live reporter commented that whether it was due to the substance being stuck in his throat or not, Kyo was not bent on singing well that night, which he interpreted as a sign of integrity.
The theme that night of 2002 at Zepp Fukuoka, which the live report focused on, was really "blood". A message had been played on the intercom to advise the audience about the risk of being splattered with fake blood, and blue vinyl sheets/tarps had even been laid on the floor between the front row of the audience and the stage, to avoid staining the venue.
For what it's worth, not a trace of Yurameki, Akuro no Oka or Zan was played in that show hahah. It was a mix of Kisou and Six Ugly.
If you have seen some fanart of the band's look in Tour23 Phalaris Final -The scent of a peaceful death-, maybe you noticed that Kyo has been dressing a bit like in the pictures above lately, and he used fake blood similarly in Petit Brabançon's Explode-01 show.

9 People to Know Better (except I'm not tagging 9 people)
I don't normally do tag games, but I got tagged in this twice (by @jealous-kippen and @remmixx, my beloveds <3) so here I am! (also as I'm writing this out I am realizing that while both posts were titled the same way, it looks like they had different question prompts??? So I'm just gonna combine the two)
Favorite Color: Purple! Any shade will have my heart but I am partial to more red-toned purples. (PV, if that means anything to anyone who sees this other than me, you know who you are)
Currently Reading: Three things! In terms of actual books, I've been slowly making my way through the Riordanverse since my university did The Lightning Thief in my second year (first school in my state to do it once the rights were released!) since I somehow never got into Percy Jackson as a kid, and I'm currently on Son of Neptune. I'm also one like my third or fourth re-read of Eurydice by Sara Ruhl, since that's the play I'm designing the costumes for for my senior project. And in terms of fanfic, I woke up to a notification about this yesterday and Actually Screeched.
Last Song: Dial Drunk by Noah Kahan (ft. Post Malone), which was a bit of an accident. I use siri to request music while I'm driving and I asked for Dial Drunk and was singing along until I got jumpscared by the slight difference before Post Malone's verse. Although if you look at my spotify, the ROTPL album has been on repeat for weeks.
Currently Watching (Series): I've been hyperfixated on ROTPL and have watched it over a dozen times at this point, which is probably not healthy, so I put on NCIS last night for background noise while I ate dinner and accidentally watched like six episodes.
Currently Watching (Movie): Saw the Barbie movie the night before the actual opening with my coworkers (We don't cross picket lines people! I was not asked nor invited by any company, and I paid full price for my ticket. There's a one-screen theatre in the town where I'm doing summer stock, this relic from the 50's, and they were able to get access to the film a day early and did a special first come first serve premiere.) and we all sobbed the entire way through.
Current Obsession: Rise of the Pink Ladies. Full stop. I'd seen clips of it when it first aired in April but I was iffy on it in spite of how good it looked. Like most, I'm a little tired of reboots and remakes, and while I did clock Cynthia as being queer within two seconds, (I believe my exact words were "That's either a very butch lesbian or the eggiest egg to ever egg.") I was Convinced it was a queerbait situation. Plus I was nearing finals and didn't have time to get into a new show. But then Crushing Me was trending on tiktok and I realized this was not queerbait, so I put it on to have something playing while I packed for summer stock and it's been the only thing I can think about since mid May. It got me writing fanfic again for the first time in years, if that tells you anything. Speaking of,
Currently Working On: A follow-up to my previous fic, Steady, Steady! I wanted to have it up this week, but it is a behemoth. I'm a little over halfway through my plot outline and I'm at 10,441 words. Fun fact, this will be my longest single-chapter fic so far. Not just in the fandom, not just on AO3, but ever (so far!)
No-Pressure Tagging: @merely-a-player, @penguin-writes-books, @el-fandom-birb, @marley-barnes112, @isweartheyregayyourhonor, and @look-at-those-niceass-rocks (since I've already dragged you back to tumblr kicking and screaming)

What are your all-time favorite outfits from Twisted Wonderland?
Hello @letterstoear, thank you for ask! I've had a lot of fun making this post, and I'm so sorry that it took forever to answer!
Every time I was certain I had my list narrowed down, I remembered another outfit I really liked. (Also, I'm a little bit biased, as you will see...haha). This time, I focused on event outfits to make it easier for myself. Maybe in the future I'll post my "reviews" on dorm uniforms or Halloween costumes.
I am always blown away by the the little details that Yana Toboso and the rest of the design team have added to each of characters' outfits, because they give some interesting insight to their personalities and backgrounds.
Without further ado, let's discuss some outfits! (Please note that there are spoilers for upcoming events from the JP server, as well as some groovy arts!)
My Favorite Twisted Wonderland Outfits
10. Floyd's Outdoor Wear (Vargas Camp)
Tumblr media
Most of the outfits on my list are on the extravagant side. I recently bought a volume of Black Butler, where there was a note about how Yana Toboso loves to draw clothing, and it truly shows.
But in contrast to seeing our beloved characters in over-the-top costumes, it's refreshing to see them wearing casual outfits once in a while as well and see their individual, everyday styles.
I'll admit that I haven't played any of the Vargas Camp events, and have a grand total of zero (0) cards from this series. I'm not sure why; I always miss the event's runtime for some reason.
Still, I've always loved Floyd's little sling bag with the eel keychain, as well as the teal visor. The bright colors stand out and are appealing.
The whole outfit looks like something you could get from a store like Uniqlo, and sometimes it is nice to have that sort of realism in a magical game. He looks like an ordinary teenager I could find on the street. Except...if I did find Floyd on the street, I'd be running in the other direction. But that's not the main idea here.
9. Azul's Glorious Masquerade Outfit
Tumblr media
At first, I sort of forgot that this SSR existed. When the PV for Glorious Masquerade came out, I was more focused on Malleus.
However, eventually, many people began to cosplay as GloMas Azul, and they all looked so amazing. I began to appreciate the outfit more after seeing people pose and dance in it. Azul also tends to have some of the best fanart, and fans have spared no expense when drawing him wearing this.
My favorite part of the outfit is his coat. I like the silhouette it creates with a high-waist belt, and the long coattails that resemble tentacles. The ruffles on his trousers are cute, too. I would buy a pair if I could. Unfortunately, it's hard to see these details on his in-game sprite.
As for his accessories, the pearls are so dramatic (and so very Azul). His round glasses are also cute, I hope he wears them again!
8. Idia's Suitor Suit
Tumblr media
One look at Idia's Ghost Marriage outfit, and you can really tell that it was designed by Yana Toboso. His gloves, coat, and cravat make him look like he's in the Victorian Era. Also, doesn't he look sort of like Grelle from Black Butler?
Speaking of Grelle, Idia's outfit is meant to look more like funeral attire, between the long, black coat and the lilies pinned to his shoulder. There are also skulls hidden throughout his outfit, such as on his jacket chain and cufflinks. I was still new to TWST at the time, so I just thought that Idia liked gothic clothing. I didn't realize he was (at least in his mind) attending his own funeral!
Let's not forget his new hairstyle! This is one of Idia's first SSRs if I remember correctly, so it was exciting to see him with a ponytail.
My love for this outfit also comes from my love for the story associated with it. Fans have pointed out that Idia's "arranged marriage" with Eliza parallels the myth of Hades and Persephone. The design team and Yana were so clever for this.
I don't have this card, either, but I hope to pick him up one day!
7. Ortho's Fairy Gear
Tumblr media
The Shroud brothers are luckyーthey are probably two of the characters with the most SSRs in the game.
That being said, we all have to agree that Ortho's fairy gear is one of the most unique and avant-garde cards in the game.
I really enjoy the white and gold color scheme in this event. His color-changing wings are stunning, and the piece covering his eyes makes him look very mysterious.
I thought this card was cool when I first saw it, but then I learned that Ortho's outfit and hair can turn pink, which is even better.
Every time I see his "pointe shoes," it makes me imagine Ortho and Idia trying to learn how to dance together in Idia's room, and Idia obsessively studying ballet costumes for his younger brother.
Yet again, I don't have this card, but my best friend does! At least I can admire him from her phone...
6. Silver's Rabbit Wear
Tumblr media
There is no way that this outfit is just an R card! When this card was first advertised in one of the JR rail train stations, the pictures showed this card with Deuce's hometown in the background instead of the standard Diasomnia R background, so I thought that this card would at least be an SR. (Although I can't complain so much, because that means it's free!)
Silver is so princely. I am convinced that he can look good in anything. I am fond of pastel colors, and the pink/blue color scheme suits him, as the TWST version of Aurora. The bows may be silly, but I find them adorable.
Compared to the other boys in this event, Silver's outfit looks a little more like a soldier's (albeit a toy soldier's or a nutcracker's), which is a cool touch.
5. Deuce's Rabbit Wear
Tumblr media
Deuce's hometown event was truly one of my favorite events that came out in the JP sever last year. Not only were some of my most favorite characters there, but they were dressed up in the most whimsical outfits possible. (And we got to meet Deuce's motherーshe's the coolest!)
Since Deuce is the main character of this event, his outfit bears the most resemblance to the white rabbit's in most classic illustrations, complete with a bow tie, top hat, and, of course, his pocket watch. His outfit has a blue color scheme. Like Azul in GloMas, Deuce also wears round glasses in his groovy art. Overall, it looks like the sweet ouji style, although I'm not very familiar with this sub-fashion. If anyone who is reading this has studied/worn this style of fashion, please let me know!
I used to play Love Nikki and Shining Nikki (two fashion-themed gacha games), which also featured lolita dresses inspired by Alice in Wonderland characters. For this reason, Deuce's outfit in particular feels very nostalgic to me.
4. Lilia's Right General Armor
Tumblr media
Here's another departure from the cute pastel outfits...
Sleeping Beauty was one of my favorite Disney movies as a child. I always remembered Maleficent's "goons" as short, silly little creatures wearing simple green tunics.
So how on earth did we get to Right General Lilia Vanrouge?!
Seriously, I'm just stunned by how the artists looked at the source material and created something so radically, yet wonderfully, different.
I'm curious about the green stones (jades?) on his outfit--around his waist, there are several pieces attached to tassels, and he has two strapped to his right leg. The material matches the stone used for his weapon. Maybe it represents his status in Briar Valley. If you check his (unposed) sprite, you can also see that he is wearing something around his waist that looks like folded bat wings.
Like everyone else, I'm obsessed with his long hairーit makes him look so formidable, especially with that hood. My friends and I like to joke that his ponytail makes him look like a character in a Chinese martial arts drama.
Again, the story associated with this card made me love it even more. Few books have made me cry as much as Book 7 of TWST.
3. Malleus' Glorious Masquerade Outfit
Tumblr media
While Sleeping Beauty was my favorite movie as a young child, when I got older, I began to love The Hunchback of Notre Dame. It was only natural for this outfit to be among my favorites for this reason.
There are so many details here. The feathered hat. The sheer sleeves. The golden embroidery. The split cape. It's honestly overwhelming to take in at once.
I can say that my favorite detail is his green earrings. They really bring out his eye color, and the PV made them so sparkly.
In addition, everyone I've ever seen who has cosplayed as GloMas Malleus or has drawn fanart of him has increased my appreciation of this outfit.
[Now for some very spoiler-y stuff] The fact that this event came just before the release of Chapter 7 is worth noting. Doesn't it feel a bit tragic that just before Malleus' overblot, we have a chance to see him wearing an outfit that makes him look especially like his mother, having fun and being the star at the masquerade? And what about the feathers on his shouldersーdo they hint at another side of his family? There's so much foreshadowing and mystery going on, and nothing is more suitable for the occasion than masquerade attire.
2. Kalim's New Year Attire
Tumblr media
I've already rambled about how sentimental this outfit is to me in a previous post, but in summary: New Year is my favorite holiday, and the New Year's Sale event was the first event I "seriously" participated in. Kalim looks excessively cute and festive in his kimono, and every time I see this card, I feel nostalgic and in the holiday mood.
1. (Tied) Epel's Applepom Outfit and Riddle's Beach Outfit
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm really sorry, Epel and Riddle are my favorite characters, and in the end, I refuse to chose between them. They're like my younger brothers! I try to collect all of their cards, so I pay attention to their outfits the most, and picking only one outfit for each character was a challenge in itself.
My favorite part of Epel's Applepom outfit is his cloak. It looks so fluffy and warm. When you set him as your home screen character, you also have the option to "swap looks" and see his outfit without the cloak--the apple embroidery on the rest of his outfit is very detailed. Many fans have mentioned that the outfits people wear in Harveston resemble traditional Scandinavian clothing, which is really cool!
The little apple slices on his cap are everything.
And I'm always happy to see characters in different hairstyles, such as Epel's little ponytail.
One of my headcanons is that you're allowed to call Epel cute, but only when he wears this specific outfit, because he takes it as a complement to his culture.
As for Riddle, we're all so used to seeing him wearing formal suits. It's so nice to see him loosening up for once. He looks so happy, now that he has the chance to see the ocean for the first time!
I also happened to be on vacation at the beach around the time this event came out, so it felt like a gift.
I have to laugh a little, because there are so many flowers on his outfit. Even Jack pointed it out in the story. But he looks so cute!
I suppose we have to discuss the elephant in the room. My friend saw it before me, so she spammed me with messages along the lines of "RIDDLE IS WEARING A CROP TOP!!! THIS IS NOT A DRILL!!!" and I naturally thought she was pranking me. But lo and behold, it's the truth. I like to headcanon that among the rest of the cast in this event, everyone has made an unspoken mutual agreement not to mention it. This Victorian child has already been through enough, and not a word must reach Mrs. Rosehearts.
Thank you once again for the ask! For anyone who read all of this, what do you think about these outfits, and which ones in the game are your favorite?

" I leave you two alone, I see that the girls are calling me" your voice was slightly sour, before giving a kiss on the cheek of your partner and throwing an annoyed look at Neteyam, making him smirk.
You sighed away from the two boys and headed to the spot where your best friend, Uleyte, the village singer, was sitting. She was like a sister to you, she understood you why no one could, and she often saw far beyond your gaze, giving you advice and support. "In the midst of two fires?" Uleyte said, smiling, approaching you, and then taking your hands gently. You looked at her confused, not understanding what she was hinting at. "What do you mean? I’m not in the middle of fire." You said to your friend, laughing slightly, thinking it was one of the many meaningless things she said to make you laugh. "You know what I mean. Those two fires" Your friend’s hand landed on your face, making you turn towards the spot where Neteyam and Tul'pey were chatting amicably. "What? No! No fire. Tul'pey is the man destined for me." You said looking away from the boys, to point it at the girl who looked at you with affection. "Mh-mh I know, but does your heart feel the same?" she continued. You opened your mouth to respond, but you were stopped immediately by your friend’s manicured fingers, "No, look for the true answer in your heart. This month you’ve told me more about Neteyam than about Tul'pey in a whole year." His sweet, melodious voice made you think for a second. "You’re wrong, I have no feelings for him. You know it’s his fault if-" Uleyte nodded before you finished the sentence, he knew you’d hurt even the thought of talking about Ney'nari, your older sister. "Ma y/n… You always say that, but is that really what’s in your heart? Ney'nari wouldn’t want to see you deprive yourself of something just for events, which you know as well as I do, not totally inherent in Neteyam." She shook her hands, looking you in the eye. " I see what I want to hide from your mind, Eywa loves all her children and if these feelings are true, she'll help you"
Uleyte listened to you with a sweet smile as she watched you so desperately try to convince her she was wrong. But you knew perfectly well that she understood you, after all, after your sister’s death, she was the one who stood by you and filled that role with so much love. You had grown up together, even though she was a little older, you both saw each other as sisters and Ney'nari herself did not distinguish between you, treating both of you as her own blood. Uleyte knew how much you suffered for the girl’s death, becoming the rock and shelter you needed to move on. "Sometimes our enemies are our experiences, not people. You have a strong heart, ma y/n, but you are weak of spirit" The girl’s hands rested on your heart "Your mind may betray you, but your heart may not." Your gaze was slightly lost on that of your friend, trying to find adequate answers. " Let your heart speak for once. Today you have the chance to try and give forgiveness," she concluded, and then receive your little smile. Your friend took some of the paint that was on the bowls distributed throughout the village and drew a line from the cupid’s arch to the chin. This line had a particular meaning, you had never brought it among the various tribal designs because it was the symbol of 'truth', if a person dear to you creates this design, it spurs you to tell the truth and look for it. " Ma Uleyte…" You whispered with a thread of voice as she continued with a few stitches at heart level "Listen to your heart and make it speak, this is the only way to honor Ney'nari." She said while she was fixing your beads that she had to move to do the drawings.
The Day of Atonement was an enchanting and magical day also thanks to these moments, the paints were in small containers scattered around the village because when you forgave someone or advised them, some lines or dots symbolizing forgiveness were drawn on the skin of the other. Usually, the Na'vi would end the day with their bodies full of magnificent drawings and they would talk about it while feasting or dancing around the bonfire.
You watched your friend as you felt the tip of your nose pinch, knowing that soon you would drop tiny drops of dew from your eyes. You bent your head slightly and then was greeted by the girl’s hands. " Oel Ngati kameie, ma y/n" whispered as she leaned her forehead on yours, something your sister always did when she was still alive. You knew she saw you, she was one of the few people to do it and to understand you spiritually without needing Tsaheylu. "Oel Ngati kameie, ma tsmuke…" you managed to respond in a whisper, while you closed your eyes to hold back tears. You didn’t really want to realize that maybe you didn’t hate Neteyam, just convinced by the fact that because of his family the most important person in your life was gone.
The first few hours passed quickly, your body was full of colored paint for people who had forgiven you, and you had done the same with your clan members. It made you smile that like every year Tul'pey had only a few patches of color, after all he was a pure soul, he would not hurt anyone and that’s also why you liked the idea that one day you would be a couple. Looking away slightly, you noticed that Neteyam was devoid of any color, after all since he arrived in the village he had always offered to help anyone, whether it was for boring or extremely interesting things. For this reason the new designs were made with white paint, a symbol of purity, just to encourage him to continue being so. Your jaw twitched slightly, knowing that one side of you would cover him completely with paint, not so much for forgiveness as for marking his 'faults'. You hoped with all your heart that he would not come to ask for forgiveness, after all from his point of view it would not make sense to ask you to forgive him if he had not directly killed your sister. To help your cause you had made sure to sneak at his eyes as much as possible, Which he noticed every time he tried to get close to you.
Soon you got tired of running away from Neteyam and leaning against one of the huts in the village, looking up at the sky as the wind lightly ruffled your hair, making you smile slightly thinking it was the caress you needed from your sister. You didn’t notice the footsteps approaching, but you did realize that someone was watching you. "Am I disturbing you?" He asked for a warm voice that you identified as that of Neteyam. Your eyes followed the voice and then met the boy’s face. "If I’m being honest? No." You said spontaneously, and then you looked at the smile on his face. You don’t know why you said 'no' instead of 'yes' but by now you had spoken, you could not change position. "That’s what I was hoping… I’m here for-"you stopped him, nodding. "I know what you’re here for. If it’s for forgiveness I-" This time it was him who stopped you, before laughing slightly. "I will not force you to ask forgiveness for what you said or to force you to forgive me. I am here to ask your forgiveness for invading your space from day one, and for what you have suffered because of my family. You don’t have to forgive me, if you don’t want to, I get it, "He said softly and then came a little closer to you. " I know apologies won’t bring back the dead, but I felt like I should tell you"
Your eyes soften slightly, were he really apologizing for something he hadn’t even committed without even demanding your forgiveness? Your chest swelled slightly and then nodded in the wind. "Actually, I should be asking for your forgiveness. I mistreated you from day one just for your family, without even knowing you or anything else." You said, looking sideways, noticing how the boy put his hand under your chin to lift it. "That’s not necessary. I understand that, Ma Tanhì" His voice was sweet and all you could do was meet his honey eyes and be enchanted. "But I…" You stopped when you saw Neteyam’s sincere gaze, as if he didn’t need your apology, "By the way, you know my name, use it. No sense calling me Karyu," you said, slightly pulling Neteyam’s hand from your face. "Your name? Nah. I will use your name only if you want it, until that day, I will call you Karyu or Tanhì" His voice made clear the respect he had for you, making you smile slightly. You had never met a na'vi like him, always kind and respectful, and the fact that he asked you for your consent to use your name was something that had marked you particularly. Neteyam’s fingers went to dip in one of the bowls of paint, and then created four lines on your neck, two on each side. " I forgive you, ma Tanhì" he said as he drew the red lines on your neck, his eyes focused on making beautiful parallel lines, while your gaze was focused on his face. " Four lines?" you whispered to know the meaning, drawing his gaze to yours. "The four virtues. Your wisdom" He pointed his finger to the line that was closest to your face in the right side. " courage" his finger now rocked the line below. " strength" this time his finger pointed to the top line on the left side. " and… love," he said, touching the last line, the one 'closest' to the heart.
Your eyes collided a second time, in silence as your eyes spoke more clearly than your mouths could. A little tension was created between the two of you, a tension that brought you tranquility and little chills on your arms. " Well, I…" you two said at the same time, you blushed slightly, hoping he wouldn’t notice. " You first." said the boy, and then let you nod. "Thank you… t-that’s all" you whispered, making him smile. It was the first time you thanked him sincerely. "You don’t have to thank. It’s the least I could do." He said and then moved a few locks of hair behind your ear, touching the flower that was placed right there. " I’m glad you kept it" his eyes pointed at the flower. "Hmm?" you said without understanding. " the flower" also this time you spoke at the same time. "Actually, I wanted to throw it. It was my mother who made it into a jewel" you said honestly, making the boy laugh. " I would have expected it from you. But I do like the idea of you carrying something of mine." Her gaze shifted back to your eyes. " You are shining today" his sweet, sincere tone crashed into your ear as your breathing slowed and your heart accelerated once more. " You too…" to your words Neteyam stroked your cheek with his knuckles, feeling as if you were shivering at contact, and then slipped his hand under your chin. He wanted to kiss you, he was sure that the moment was perfect, your eyes wandered on his face trying not to dwell on his lips, the closeness and the small atmosphere that had been created. Both of you wanted each other, it was so obvious by the way you were talking and how you created tension with a few gestures. The boy was holding back from touching you and kissing you, but you were a magnet to him, exacerbating your hatred of him. You swallowed trying to regain the reason "Neteyam…" you whispered, as to bring back into this world. Neteyam narrowed his eyes and took a deep breath, reluctantly removing his hand from your face and backing slightly. " Distance, right?" he said with a slight pinch of frustration. "yeah…distance…" you confirmed while yelling at your heart to calm down.
At that moment some girls approached for Neteyam, beginning to touch him, smearing paint in his body to bless him, while you disappeared from his sight, going to your parents to help them with the preparation of the banquet. In the following hours you had not seen Neteyam, and it was not a problem, indeed it was a fortune, you could not allow yourself to feel strange feelings towards that boy again. Too bad that Uleyte came to you, telling you that Neteyam had gone away with other boys of the clan to the northeast, the little group that was usually known to create problems and great headaches. You remembered that the same group were openly against the Toruk Makto and his family, and there a wake-up call rang in your head, as in the northeast there was the cliff overlooking the part of the clan that lived closest to the sea. Before Uleyte could give you more information, you snapped as fast as you could, you didn’t understand why you were running so fast for someone you said you wanted to see dead. Your friend followed you with difficulty, but you did not notice, you went so fast that you reached the boys in a few minutes, noticing how they were surrounded around Neteyam, while he had his shoulders facing the cliff, a few steps from falling down. Your heart accelerated when you saw the boy so close to danger, you instinctively approached him immediately taking by the braids what was the leader of the group. Your firm grip, as you dragged it back, noticing how the other Na'vi were looking at you in shock. "What’s.going.on.here." You said in an icy tone, before you let go of the braids of na'vi, making it fall backwards. Your body moved toward Neteyam’s, putting you in front of him before giving a furious look to the group, which immediately formed.
" Ma kxìmyu.. We were just joking," said the leader of the group, drawing your icy gaze. " joking? put a na'vi with his back against a precipice is 'joking'?" Your voice was sharp and made the boys look down. Your hands pinched inhospitably.. "I…" he started, before being blocked by you. "If you find it funny, why don’t we try?"You said thinning your eyes, inviting him to take Neteyam’s place, which he reluctantly did. You made him back up, only to see the fear in his eyes. "Funny, isn’t it?" you said when he was just a few steps away from falling. " n-no, it’s not funny but kxìmyu…" the boy looked behind him and at the sides. "Tsk. Go back to your place." You twisted your eyes, at other times you would make him regret even having had that idea, but this was a sacred day, so you had already gone far enough. "Be ashamed. All of you. Bring a guest here under Tskxekeng and do all this on a holy day." You have spoken harshly, reproaching the young men before you, while your finger pointed at each of them threateningly. "If it happens a second time, I won’t be so forgiving, and I’ll make you regret leaving Eywa’s graces. Stand up and ask for forgiveness." The boys did what they said, avoiding your burning look. " Neteyam is a guest of Olo'eykte, do not forget to do something to him and do a wrong to my family. Now go, and hope that you don’t find yourself doing similar things in the future." you said growling. The boys disappeared at the speed of light, making you sigh frustrated by their childish behavior.
Neteyam’s gaze had never changed direction since he saw you coming, and seeing you defend him had been quite exciting. His gaze burned on your body as she bit his lip trying to find the right words. "I apologize for their behavior, you better not trust everyone in this clan so much. There are some not sympathetic to your father, you may get hurt." You said before heading for the forest. " And deprive me of the future Olo'eykte who runs to my rescue?" he said jokingly, following you, while your friend was hiding in the trees not far from you. "You shouldn’t joke about that. Your life was entrusted to my family, if anything happened to you, war would break out." You said as you walked. " So you’re worried about me?" he said trying to reach you, but your steps were fast. "No. I’m worried about my family, you’re just an inconvenience in the middle." Your words made Neteyam laugh. "An inconvenience that interests you." He said to then reach out and take you by the wrist, stopping you and turning you towards him. " I don’t care about you." You hissed facing him, putting yourself face to face. "Your eyes told me otherwise a few hours ago, ma Tanhi," Neteyam had a mocking smile on his face. " You imagine things." you answered while with your hand you were firmly gesturing. "Are you really sure?" He said and then put a hand on your side, gently approaching him. "As if I hadn’t seen how you looked at those girls" he continued, moving his hair behind your neck, brushing some feathers in your hair against your collarbone. "I look at everyone the same way. As I said, you imagine things." Your eyes followed his hand, which moved your hair, and then climbed back to his face. "You shouldn’t lie, it was so obvious your annoyance" He whispered in your ear. His breathing so close made you feel shivers down your spine. "No bother." You said turning your face towards him, your noses touched slightly, your mouths closer than ever. Your eyes met his and your breaths mingled in the air, while your scents intoxicated you and sent electric shocks into your body. "You say that like these eyes aren’t screaming that they want me" he whispered and you hit your noses again, and then he smiled at you. "You didn’t." You swallowed while your eyes couldn’t get away from his. "It’s so obvious that your hatred is just a way to hide your desire." he said by teasing you. "Ma Eywa! You’re so annoying." You said turning your head to the side, only to be forced by Neteyam to look at him. "And you want me." answered immediately after, making you raise your eyes to sky. "I don't- …shut up." your voice was slightly dry and then I heard a giggle coming from Neteyam "Make me." Your eyes darted immediately on his face, not sure you heard it right. " …what’s up-" Neteyam’s smile died out when you femato him from finishing the sentence by pressing your lips against his.
Neteyam remained a moment blocked when your hands landed on his neck and between his braids, managing only to keep you from the hips and the waist. Your tongue made its way through Neteyam’s lips, and when he finally realized that it was really happening, he squeezed you and made the kiss wet and deeper, almost becoming a game for those who dominated over the other. Your hands squeezed and pulled some braids, making him growling in your mouth and then pushing you against a tree and sliding his hands down your body. You panted when he squeezed his grip on your hips, biting his lip slightly; your tongues were eagerly searching for each other just like your hands on your bodies. You only left the kiss when both of you were out of breath, despite this, Neteyam’s mouth began to work your neck immediately, leaving some small bites or wet kisses that made you pant slightly as your head bent backwards leaning against the bark of the tree, closing your eyes. Your lip threatened to break if you continued to bite it so violently, but you had to take care as much as possible of the sound of your wheezing caused by Neteyam laughing against your skin between kisses. You noticed how he went down your collarbones, avoiding even touching your breasts, the same thing happened with your intimacy that was now pulsating. The boy’s tail wrapped around your thigh, as the end touched the back of your thigh. You would have wanted him to touch you more, to feel him work on the points where you needed most, but he just kept teasing you on your neck, jaw or ear. For a second you got your clarity back and you took Neteyam from you, taking long breaths, holding a hand on your face.
"This is wrong. it’s all wrong…" You said breathing hard, then looking at Neteyam. "Is really wrong something that’s made you pant so far?" Neteyam’s voice was slightly more hoarse. " Yes. It’s wrong. Extremely wrong. 'That' will never happen again. Never again." Your finger pointed at his chest as you watched him warily. Neteyam smiled and leaned forward, whispering in your ear "I didn’t do anything you didn’t want, after all it was you who kissed me, ma Tanhì" blew hot air that made you shiver. You didn’t really know how to answer that question, because you knew that he was paradoxically right. "And that’s going to happen again, and you know it’s going to happen again. But you will be the one to ask, always." he concluded, and then he will move away from your ear and kiss the back of your hand gently. "I hate you, Sully." You hissed before you left him and walked back to where the clan was celebrating, "Will you give me another kiss for that?" He said, laughing as you settled in so as not to let anyone know what had happened, ignoring him during the solitary walk that divided you more and more. In addition to Neteyam, that small event had also seen Uleyte from afar, remaining slightly baffled by your change on that occasion…

About the Paris special...
Me and my friends were disccusing the new miraculous world paris special and a thought crossed my mind, is there any chance Supreme in the alternate Paris is being assisted by the Kwami Null?
For context Null is the Kwami of nothingness, the overaching antagonist of the pv who assisted Gabriel/Richard Sphinx in the discarded concepts, Null desires to revert the world back to it's original state before the big bang.
Little is known about Null's personality from the concepts, except that he is an antithesis for Tikki and Plagg, or Gimmi the kwami of reality, he could give Richard the ability to see insight from the future to assist in his plan of world domination to relieve the pain he felt from his wife's disapearence, he was basically an earlier version of Nooroo .
Tumblr media
Regardless of who Supreme really is(my money's on Fu or The order of the guardians in general), they're rule over the alternate world has turned it into a dystopia with only Hesperia and the resistance rebelling to achieve a brighter future, but another thing to focus on is Supreme put a seal on Plagg and Tikki restricting their free autonomy and more importantly their ability to shift into Gimmi take into account that in the original pv Null was the one who essentially trapped Plagg and Tikki in the miraculous to begin with to prevent their interference in his plan.
Tumblr media
I don't know our theory could very well be a stretch but a lot of discarded concepts from the original pv have been reappearing in different versions such as Felix,Sparrow,Mime etc so it's very possible for Null to make an appearence at some point, he is essentially the antithesis to Gimmi and the concept of an evil Kwami is very interesting and would make sense they are powerful entities it's not possible for all of the Kwami's to be forces of good especially someone who is the exact opposite of Tikki and Plagg the universe should remain in balance that's something that's been continuously said throughout the show, like Tikki and Plagg are opposites to eachother, Null could be the antithesis to Gimmi.
But I lowkey don't have much faith in the series to pull this off properly and regardless of whether or not in the alternate universe or the canon universe hey a girl can dream, I just really wanna see Null so bad.

Generation Kill Research Results
We all know that there's really specific stuff in GK that only those who were there would know, much of which we get in the books Generation Kill (Evan Wright) and One Bullet Away (Nate Fick).
I needed some more intel for my fics, so I went hunting for all the things RL Ray said about GK relevant topics on reddit. The result is a list of all his comments, from radio frequencies to how exactly he got burnt by Rudy's stove to the MRE components and the truth about the Zeus attack and what colour the PT shorts of Recon guys were.
The list has been vetted by @bookishdea to make sure that there's no personal info about the RL guys in there.
It's sorted by topic: weapons/equipment, radios/comms, beanies/uniforms, officers in Recon, Humvees, MREs, Humvee arrangement/Reporter, Zeus attack, explosion of Rudy's stove, Captain America's name, invasion, Recon training/conditions of OIF, Ripped Fuel, First Recon, Afghanistan/Ray's Marine Corps career, characters/people career background, paddles, GK production, float tapes.
I hope you find interesting stuff in there. I originally made it for myself, but since the effort went in already anyway, I figured I could share it with those who don't want to risk coming across RL Marines infos, but who might still profit from the GK-specific infos.
- all intel are responses of RL Ray (plasmata) on reddit in various subreddits, collected 23. Nov. 2023
- Q = question asked on reddit, A = Ray's answer. There's not always a question supplied, just where it's necessary to understand his answer
weapons/equipment
- At the time most of the Marine Corps was still using the M16s and M249 (SAW). Recon units were one of the first ones to get M4's and Para-SAWs (carbine versions of the M249). So, folks like officers and regular support folks were still carrying their standard M16, while 0321 Recon Marines were carrying M4s.
- Q: I was rewatching GK (again) and I think it was episode 2 when Rudy and Pappy took out the RPG team. I don’t know what the sniper rifle caliber is called I would think it’s a .338 laupa because that was standard sniper rifle of the Marine Corps.
A: No. It was an M40 A3 which shoots a 7.62x51mm NATO round. It is essentially the same thing as a .308 They are based on a Remington 700 and modified by USMC armorers. Anyone that went to sniper school would shoot that rifle. Recon marines go to sniper school. Those who didnt would still crosstrain on range so they werent totally ignorant to the weapon.
- Q: Why do some of the men in the 1st Recon Battalion have no attachments on their M4 ie Q-Tip, Christenson, and Ray, while others like Brad, Fick, Fruity Rudy had optics and grips?
A: Because some people think that having that shit on your weapon makes you look cooler. It is all personal preference.
- Q: I've always wondered if the real Brad rocked that PVS-17 the whole time like his character did.
A: He sure did. It is an easy way to always have NV handy without having to have something strapped to your fucking head all the time (PVS-7's).
radios/comms
-Q: In ep 2, right after the ambush scene when there is a radio check, whatdo the "up" numbers mean? (up 120 and up, up 700 and up, up 200 and up..etc)
A: It is a short way to indicate status. "Up" means we are all good and no one is injured or dead. IIRC the number indicates rounds of ammo left.
- Q: In the ep 2 episode intro somebody says: "All Hitman Victors, be advised, we are rolling freaks to TAC 1-1-9 at 1400 Zulu. How copy?" I understand everything expect "rolling freaks". Any ideas?
A: It does mean "rolling freqs" which is shorthand for "Changing radio Frequencies."
As you have seen in the series, the military communicates using radio's. As a security measure, everyone changes to a different radio frequency at the same time at set intervals. Lets say that the enemy was able to steal/capture a US radio. Then they would be able to listen in on all our radio conversations...this is bad. So, just in case that happens we all change frequencies (along with crypto fills and other things) so that radio only has value for a very limited time.
This is definitely also combined with crystallographic signature changes as well as something known as frequency hopping (SINGARS) for additional security.
- Q: So how would the teams be able to keep up with the new radio frequencies? Are they passed by runner or is a CYZ used?
A: They are typically pre-planned in a "comm plan" (communications plan). If a radio were to come up missing then they would change the comm plan and distribute however they could.
If you look at the HMMWV windshield next to Brad Colbert in the series you will see a clear acetate with something printed on it. That is a cheat sheet of the comm plan.
- Different types of radios are capable of different radio bands. Most of what you hear in GK is all VHF (ground plane) band radio traffic. The vehicle radios and the handheld ones do VHF. Different groups have different "freqs" (pronounced like freaks) or frequencies that they use. Just like the FM radio in your car, you can tune into different radio stations by changing the frequency. Bravo 1 is on 95.7 Hot Country....and Bravo 2 is on 103.3 Smooth Jazz. You are always switching between the different freqs to talk to who you are supposed to be talking to. So, my personal radio may be set to be on Bravo 1's channel, but the vehicle may be set to Bravo 3 and then another guy may have his set to the Alpha channel. Just like setting the presets in your car, you can do that on these radios as well...so you can quickly switch between them.
The reason you also hear pilots in some of them is that some radios are UHF (line of sight) band to talk to pilots. The small handheld radios were both VHF and UHF radios so we could do things like call for fire missions and give the pilots our 9 lines.
Com plans utilize multiple channels across different spectrums (HF, VHF, UHF, Satellite) and many types of radios that have different spectrum capabilities.
Dude, have you never played with walkie-talkies as a kid...hahaha. You know someone is talking on your freq because you hear them. Only one person can talk at a time on any radio channel. You can only be "tuned" to a single frequency at a time. There is a very rigid etiquette when using radios to keep things clear and efficient.
We switched from the 77's to the AN/PRC-135 in 2002 (1st Recon Bn).
The 135's would do HF freq hopping, auto antenna tuning, and directly take crypto fills. But, the best part was they had a detachable face with an extension cord; so you could seal up the radio in your ruck (waterproofing and all). Then you would have the radio face in your front deuce gear to control the radio if you needed to switch freqs or something.
Edit: I just realized that I was talking about the 104's not the 77's. Yeah, late 90's the 77's were replaced by 119's.
beanies/uniforms
- Part of it is real (the black beanie's) and the rest is done by David Simon. The real part is that we all wore black beanies. It wasn't breaking any rules as they were allowed, but most other units frowned on wearing them unless in private. We did all wear them everywhere and it kind of became a “thing” that the recon guys are the ones in beanies.
The David Simon/ Ed Burns part is the rest of the scene. I think they were trying to explain to the audience who Recon Marines were and used Trombley/Espera to do that. It was a wise choice as neither Trombley nor Espera were Recon Marines at that point…which he mentions in that scene.
It followed the PT uniforms we wore also. The Marine Corps wears “green on green” shirt/shorts. Recon’s official PT uniform is “black on black”…so if you see guys PTing in black you know they are Recon Bubbas.
officers in Recon
- A little late to the party, but there is no such thing as a recon officer. The "Reconnaissance Man" MOS is 0321 and is only for enlisted marines. Godfather was not a recon marine...no officers are.
1st Recon is comprised of many that are not recon marines; support personnel like motor T, communications, navy corpsmen, intel, etc. Officers that are platoon/ company/ battalion commanders are typically Intelligence or Infantry officers.
- Q: Not trying to correct you as you were there, I definitely wasn't... but Fick mentioned he went through BRC in his book. I guess maybe some officers go thru BRC but retain their MOS whether infantry/intel/whatever?
A: Rarely, some officers do go through BRC/ARS; but even if they do they still never are recon marines and are never in a recon team.
- Platoon commanders for Recon are kind of in the rear with the gear...they don't go out with teams. They typically command a ROC (Recon Operation Center) and provide support and are a liaison between the team and higher-ups. They feed the teams direction (via radio comms) and take intel and generate reports (again via radio comms)...but they aren't with the teams.
Humvees
- Q: If I may ask...were you guys ever told why you weren't given closed-top humvees (except of course the lead vehicle).
A: Because we didnt' have them. The HMMWV's we got were Army surplus ones we scavenged.
- You don't go to war with what you want, you go with what you have. Everything has to be adapted on the fly...which is what happened. Everything in war is a calculated risk with a margin for "acceptable losses". Were we lucky? Sure.
MREs
- Q: In ep 5, when Ray is making MRE cookies, would that actually work? If so, how good could those actually be?
A: Yes it actually works. The sugar will melt and crystalize in the creamer which makes it solid and like a cookie. When you haven't eaten anything other than MREs for months straight they are good.
PS2: Ray seems like a good guy to have drinks with in a bar.
I agree...but I am a little biased.
- Point of clarification: These aren't really MRE's, they are just components of an MRE that can come in different MREs.
Personally my favorite MRE was the Beef Stew. It came with a pouch of Beef Stew, Jalapeno Cheese, pack of two crackers, and something like Skittles. It also came with a little packet with things like Folgers Crystals Coffee packets, creamer, salt/pepper, wet wipe, etc.
There were 24 different MREs in a 12 pack "A" or "B" case. Each had a different main meal and then accessory packets that included things like Peanut Butter, Regular Cheese, Jalapeno Cheese, Crackers, "Bread Slice", Charms, Skittles, Lorna Doone Cookies, M&M Cookies ("Cookies with Pan Coated Chocolate Disks"), Nature Valley Granola Bar, Strawberry Milkshake, Pound cake, Hot Cocoa Mix, etc, etc, etc.
The GK time generation of MREs were fairly new at the time and included new meals like "Bean Burrito", "Cheese Burger", etc. There were quite a few that were in the previous generation like "Beef Stew" and "Minestrone Soup". Probably the absolute worst one was "Pork Slice in Jamaican Style Sauce".
- It was a common tradition in Brad and my old platoon to stash fun things to share amongst the team at fun times. Like when your team is all wet and cold and hasnt really slept for weeks then you bust something fun out to share…it is a great pick-me-up. My favorite thing to do were king size snickers bars.
Humvee arrangement / Reporter
- Q: Who sat in the passenger side rear seat before the reporter came along?
A: No one. We determined who was in what vehicle right before the invasion..so we knew we had to fit Evan in somewhere. He really wanted to be with Brad and me...so there he went.
- Q: Why?
A: Because we're awesome. Honestly it was because he was told we would be the go-to team (because of Brad and me) for any special fun missions and he didn't want to miss out on those. That and I think he liked our dynamic as "characters".
- Short answer is because that is where he chose to be. For this war the US did something interesting in allowing for journalists to be embedded with the military units for the invasion. There were a ton of journalists that came and got a briefing on different unit types so the journalists could pick where they wanted to be. There were three journalists that after hearing what Recon was and that we would be a combat unit (so you may get shot at if you go with them) picked to be embedded with 1st Recon.
The three journalists then came to where we were staged in Kuwait and met with the BN Commander (Godfather) and were then briefed more specifically on who we were and what our role would be during the invasion. After that briefing two of the three journalists decided they didn't want to kick it with us...pussies. I do remember one of them was some guy with Men's Journal.
Evan then started hanging around us and learned that our team would likely see the most action and be at the front the most...so that is where he wanted to be. After a few nights in the tents hanging out with us he decided that he wanted to be in our vehicle as he liked our "characters" for his story.
Evan, in retrospect, would frequently say he's not sure whether he was more brave or stupid/naive to embed with us for the invasion. After each firefight/ambush he would say that he was going to leave...then we would tell him to stop being a huge pussy...so he kept going.
Zeus attack
- Q: Was Trombley actually just sitting there observing like he did in the film? [note: about Zeus attack]
A: Yes and no. Lots of people were kind of looking. I was the one that jumped up and observed the gun firing to find its location. I then called Walt up to the MK-19 to walk him in on target while calling in CAS via rotary wing at the same time. I got a Navy Achievement Metal with Combat V for that action. Interesting the series got it wrong on that.
explosion of Rudy's stove
- I didn't set my face on fire, Rudy set my face on fire…hahaha. That was all healed in just a few weeks like it never happened…I heal fast. It is a common joke amongst my friends that i am Wolverine because of my rapid healing.
- Rudy was heating water for coffee. It didn't explode. To use diesel fuel in those stoves we would preheat the fuel tube with a hexamite tab. Hexamite tabs turn to gel when they burn. Rudy was carrying the stove outside and some diesel on the outside of the stove caught fire in his hands. He then dropped it and the hexamite splattered off it all over my face. Burning gel all over my face
Captain America's name
- Yeah. A little into the invasion he went running into these mud huts with a fixed bayonet. I was sitting in my HMMWV with my team watching him run in and made the comment “This guy thinks he is Captain America!” We all started calling him that afterwards. To not embarrass the guy publicly they used it in the book and film instead of his real name.
invasion
- Q: Given the might of US military and Nato forces, could the invasion have been planned better? Maybe take more time to get there instead of the confusion and rush?
A: There was a plan and it worked pretty well. Our unit was only one small part of a much larger machine so you don't get to see the overarching thinking behind the entire invasion, you just see a tiny tiny part of it. Two quips that sum it up nicely are "Speed is far more effective than a plan" and "Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face"
- Q: Why weren't tanks and armor part of your group specially when entering hostile town?
A: Because they were needed elsewhere and we were essentially probing the battlefield so the commanders would know where best to direct the invading force...including armored units.
Recon training/conditions of OIF
-Q: How do you cope with the constant dangers and lack of sleep, food and hygiene. Most people would operate at lower levels under these circumstances and make mistakes. Was there something you guys did that made things better?
A: You fight how you train. We were used to little sleep, food, and hygiene because that is how we always trained. So, when it came to war we were already very comfortable and used to operating in that condition. Same shit, different day.
- All Recon Marines have the same MOS...0321. There are team roles such as Pointman, Navigator, Slackman, RTO, Assistant RTO, Assistant Team Leader, and Team Leader. Every Recon Marine is expected to have held each role to be well rounded. You may be the RTO in one team and then a Navigator in another.
All Marines (not just Recon Marines) are marksman and have to qualify just the same. This is independent of their MOS. Every Marine is a Rifleman.
Nearly all Recon Marines have gone through Sniper School...this is nothing super special.
- Q: Though I did do underwater football with a few of the Recon guys for PT a few times. That was a pretty brutal game. Put a plastic chair in either side of the deep end of the pool (12'+ at Flores) and put an underwater weight between the chairs in the middle of the pool. Line up 5 guys on either side. Dive in on the mark and try to get the weight into the seat of the chair opposite of your side. Tap if you need air, usually you get released pretty quickly... After a second or two. And that was about the only rule. Underwater everything was game. Grabbing, choking, ripping off masks...and it was a brutal workout. You'd be sucking wind after a few goals.
A: When I was in we played a lot of "Underwater Soccer" which is basically the same thing just without the chairs. Two team on either side of the pool and a weight (either a 25lb bar weight or dumbbell) in the middle on the bottom. Your team gets a point when you touch the opposing teams wall with the weight in hand.
The other game I used to love was the "Whistle Game." In this game a metal whistle was thrown into the middle of the pool. It was every man for himself. You had to grab the whistle from the bottom of the pool and rise to the surface and successfully blow it. If you did then you got to get out of the pool. Everyone else keeps going. It was one of the "Pays to be a winner" games.
- Another fun side note: We used to play a game called "Tap-Out Pass-Out" in which we would ground fight (think Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) and the only rules were no eye gouging. The game was only over when someone would pass out or tap out. While Rudy is/was an amazing standing fighter, he wasn't great on the ground. I am very good on the ground and would always beat him, much to Rudy's chagrin. Because of that Rudy began to diligently practice and improve his ground fighting, so I don't know if you should mess with him on the ground now.
Ripped Fuel
- Q: Ray, how much Ripped Fuel have you had?
A: Believe it or not I only had 2 the entire time. Two were issued to each marine as part of a med kit. The rest was just swallowing Folgers Coffee Crystals that came in the MREs.
First Recon
- Former B Co, 1st Recon Bn 0321 (1999-2003) checking in. 1st Recon was a Battalion in 1990? It was a Company when I first got there (I was in 2nd Platoon - 1st Recon Co)...then it changed into a Battalion a year or two later.
Afghanistan / Ray's Marine Corps career
- Question: Were you on this float? What did you do before joining 1st recon? Did you go to Afghanistan?
Answer: Yes. I was a pipeliner, so I was always always at 1st. I did go to Afghanistan. I was in 1st Recon Company, 2nd platoon on this float. It is the same platoon as Brad Colbert but I was in a different team.
- You can petition to "try out" for recon. If you pass a screening (run by Recon Marines) then you typically go to a "RIP" platoon (Recon Indoctrination Platoon or something like that) to be weeded out if you aren't able to hang. From there you go to a Recon MOS producing school (ARS or BRC) and if you pass that course then you become a "Roper" until you pass the unit Indoc. It isn't just jump right in.
- Q: I guess that means you went fleet grunt first then tested into recon yeah?
I enlisted 03XX then got 0311 out of SOI, then was picked up by recon at the graduation of SOI.
A: I am a fellow pipeliner. When i went in, 0321 was a secondary MOS (circa 2000)…so I was an 0311 with the secondary of 0321.
- Q: What year did you graduate boot camp? Company? Platoon?
A: January 2000, San Diego, Mike Co., Plt 3014
- Q: The 9/11 attacks solidified my choice in enlisting. At the time, I was a Sophomore in HS. 3rd period Geometry. Where were you?
A: Sitting in a pub in Darwin Australia (it was night time there) on libo. Shore Patrol comes running into the pub screaming for everyone to get back to ship (15th MEU on the USS Dubuque). Get back to ship just in time to see the second tower fall on tv. Go to drunken sleep as we set sail for Pakistan (Bravo Platoon, 1st Recon Company).
- He [note: Ray talking about himself] picked up Sgt. before he got out through. Fellow B Co 1st Recon alum. Yut Yut.
characters/people career background
- First Recon Bn is not just Recon Marines...it includes all the support personnel that are needed for a unit as well; like Armorers, Motor T, Intel, Supply, Communications, Admin, etc.
Jeff wasn't a Recon Marine; his MOS was Motor T. He was a Motor T Marine assigned to First Recon. We loved Jeff because he was super pessimistic and hateful. When Darnold was shot and medevac'd out, Jeff filled the vacancy in Kocher's team.
- Capt. Eric Dill was our Recon Platoon Commander during Afghanistan and can be seen in Part-8 @ 11:42. His/my platoon is the one that he handed over to Fick after we got back stateside.
- One thing to note is that Fick wasn't with Recon during Afghanistan...he was an Infantry Platoon commander. Afghanistan is where Fick became buddies with our current Recon Platoon commander, Eric Dill. Dill convinced Fick to come over to 1st Recon after getting back from Afghanistan. This is also where we "found" Garza, Leon, etc and convinced them to come over from the infantry to become Recon Marines.
- The first casualty was Darnold in Eric Kocher's team. He was shot in the forearm when we drove through an ambush. This is the scene where Walt was possibly tangled in the electrical wires and I believe it shows a HMMWV monster-trucking a car. Dirty Earl (Jeff Carizalez) then took over for Darnold in Eric's team.
paddles
- Paddles aren't just a Recon thing...they are generally a boat team thing...which Recon guys are amongst. Honestly, it varies as to who would get one. Some think that only other Recon Marines should get them...others think that support guys should too.
Typically the size of the paddle matters. The bigger the paddle the more senior/experience/loved the guy was. When I was in the small novelty paddles were for thank-you's to folks. Regular 4 foot paddles were for solid Recon Marines that were liked. Large 6 foot paddles were reserved for guys that had been there a while and were exceptional.
GK production
- David Simon (the guy that did Gen Kill) was really the instrumental piece to making it what it was. Early on HBO was going to have someone else do it...and it was straight up fucking Michael Bay style. David wanted real Marines to be able to watch the series and see not a single thing wrong with it; from the dialog, equipment/uniforms, actor body types, mannerisms, etc. He gave us a hell of a ton of leeway to just "be ourselves" so he could have that in the series.
I got involved early on when they were working on the scripts to make sure the slang and jargon added was Marine Corps specific and current. Even the radio chatter in all scenes was written by real Marines...all the pilot sides of radio chatter (like when calling CAS) was recorded by a real FAC.
All the actors were put through a two week "How to be a Marine" course. From how to wear their uniforms, how to carry their weapons, hazing motivational physical exercises, etc. One of the biggest problems was all the actors wanting to do exactly what Rudy Reyes did on set; and Rudy lives in a comic book so it wasn't all exactly accurate.
In one of the episodes, the Oscar Award winning Director (different episodes had different directors) was going to have guys flying when shot like you see in the typical movies. After the Marines on set (Eric Kocher and Jeff Carizalez) told her that was not real and she did it anyways; Eric and Jeff started just making comments like "This episode is going to fail fucking miserably", "Wow, this episode is going to suck balls", "This is the worst fucking thing I have ever seen"...as you already noticed, those scenes were redone.
float tapes
- About the Float Tapes: OMG!...these videos are gold. Watching through them now. I have already seen Gabe Garza (Part-3 @ 1:04 far right) Tony Espera (Part-3 @ 7:50) as they were both with that infantry unit at the time.
- I had never seen these so it is fun to relive this float. In Part 4 when they are doing the "Steel Beach Party" he has a part where he films guys playing hacky-sack with "Black Shirts = Cool AF" on screen. The black shirts are Recon guys (everyone else has to wear green). In that shot are Eric Kocher (in the green flight suit) and Larry Shawn Patrick (tall guy with sunglasses on) along with some other brothers. There were 22 Recon guys total on that float in 4 teams. I haven't seen me or anyone from my team in the videos yet.
- Part 36 @ 3:17 is Rudy Reyes, a guy i forgot his name right now in the SERE shirt, the blond guy to his right (James Klepel /was on my team), and the guy that walks in behind Espera (Luke Meister / also on my team).
Real Evan Wright intel (twitter) about GK
camera
- Reporter's camera was a Leica m6 50mm, analogue (film, not digital)
Manimal
- Anthony "Manimal" Jacks usually wore his teeth and was a serious person who spoke to me a lot about his family & his concerns about doing right, if we crossed the border. Being "Manimal" was sort of a character he played to amuse people
MRE crates
- As is clear in this photo, Holsey, too, could scarcely contain his joy that I was taking his picture. Note: he's seated on an MRE crate. Those are like general propose chairs and tables in the field, like "apple boxes" in the film industry.

i will, don’t test me thomas doodooballs. my hatred for you triumphs everything 🔥🔥🔥 once i familiarise myself with mlb (🤮) i will maybe write a test script for an episode.
thomas and his writing team is proof that just because you have a job in something doesn’t mean you’re good at it.
huge rant and ramble:
as an avid enjoyer of story telling, i strongly despise everyone behind the writing of mlb.
firstly, marinette is supposed to have bad luck through her ditziness. i watched a few episodes, and her “bad luck” seems to just be with anything regarding adrien? it’s actually just more of her being obsessive and leading to stupid mistakes. on the other hand, bridgette obviously has bad luck. getting drenched, burning her tongue, yet she smiles through it. THIS IS POTENTIAL FOR BRIDGETTE’S CHARACTER. marinette’s character has never been properly explained. why is she this way? why is she different as ladybug? (honestly is she even different? kinda, but it’s not obvious) we sure do know why adrien is more carefree as chat noir. but not marinette. on the other hand, the set up for bridgette’s character can lead to so many plot possibilities. why is she so optimistic? is it because it’s what is expected of her? is she purposefully dense? when she gets drenched by the car, she pauses for a short while looking solemn, then smiles. but that smile looks pained almost. like she’s sick of acting that way. (yes i know i’m looking too much into a pv but that’s the point. i’m saying why the pv has potential.) therefore, as ladybug, she can be herself. someone who does whatever she wants, going ahead without thought, being the person she cannot be. anyways, why the hell is marinette even in love with adrien anyways. he just gave her a god damn umbrella or smth idk. i believe my baby bridgette loves felix because she truly sees his soft side. it may be cliche but it sure is a better reason than an umbrella.
secondly, felix. thomas and his team said he was too much like a cliche male anime protagonist, and adrien would let them tell more interesting stories. i mean sure, but it’s most ironic how they even FAILED AT THAT. i rather a cliche male anime protagonist than bitch boy adrien who is as bland as cardboard. felix being cold to those around him is very reasonable because as a model, he’s used to people only liking him for looks and his money. he thinks that bridgette only likes him for those reasons, so he pushes her away. but as chat noir, felix, like bridgette, is able to be someone he truly feels. unrestrained by societal pressures. EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE BOTH POLAR OPPOSITES, ONE BEING COLD WHILE THE OTHER IS TOO WARM, THEY SUFFER FROM THE SAME ISSUES DEEP DOWN. AS HEROES THEY ARE THEMSELVES. ISNT THIS COOL????? ISNT THIS A GOOD STORYTELLING POINT?????????? then even though he needs to kiss ladybug to break the curse, he soon falls in love with her because he admires her boldness, which is something he lacks when he’s himself. he doesn’t have the courage to stand up against his father. i think mlb chat noir likes ladybug for similar reasons but i don’t remember it being connected like that. (never watched the entire 100+ episodes, only bits and pieces, and read up other stuff so might be wrong.)
i believe his team is just straight lazy. they watered down the relationships and characters to the point that dynamic contrast is just not as powerful as before. in early preproduction art, the concept shown is supposed to revolve heavily around the idea of opposites. marinette is now just an obsessive stalker and adrien takes it. chat noir flirts with ladybug and she takes it. where’s the rejection from the opposite party??? where’s the oomph?? where’s the spice???
Tumblr media
i do enjoy the concept of them letting go of their crushes. but i didn’t like how it was done in the series. it’s as if the writers don’t fucking know the hell they’re going. felix struggles with understanding whether he truly loves bridgette or is it because of the effects of the ring’s curse. does he really want the curse to be gone? while it gives him bad luck, he gets to be himself. what does he truly want? for bridgette, she realises that she is bothering felix too much. wanting the best for him and for her to focus on being ladybug, she learns to leave him in the past for both their good. she also suffers with the weight of being the main heroine. even though she uses her identity as ladybug to be free of expectations and responsibilities, yet it’s coming back to haunt her so she starts to feel stress. while chat noir and bridgette backs away, felix and ladybug realise that they miss the other’s company since the other was always there for them when they needed it the most. the way this was written in mlb was awfully horrible.
look at what i can do thomas astruc, look at the potential. “their chemistry sucks it’ll never work” SUCK MY BALLS WHAT BULLSHIT IS THAT.
anyways, other than the obvious reason as to why the animation is a lot more visually striking and can express more things the cgi can’t (dynamic movement, special effects, etc) (funny enough, the people behind mlb said the cgi made the show more dynamic???), this is why the pv has much more potential and i will never stop believing that.
(also why didn’t the cgi ever put in effort to make ladybug and chat noir look different than their normal selves. it’s the biggest fucking plot hole that never attempts to change. even the pv tries to make bridgette’s hair change.) (sorry for low quality but see, her hair is more messy too.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
thomas astruc and zag you’re just lazy money grabbing bastards 🗣️ i stand by that. if you’re truly passionate about what you want to do (which i believe you guys were until you weren’t), you wouldn’t have sacrificed quality for money.
“the concept of the original show dealt with political themes geared towards teens and young adults but it failed to gain traction with networks so it retooled for a younger audience.” other than the team failing to realise that “cliche” doesn’t automatically mean bad, the other huge fault is that they think children are stupid and can’t handle heavier themes. look at bluey, look at all the series out there with a relatively large children audience which also deal with such stuff. it’s not impossible, it just needs exceptional writing skills. but what can i expect from a team like that.
sorry not sorry, i’m pretty mad. i have a lot of other complaints but i already spent 2h writing this. down with thomas astruc!!!!! all hail ladybug pv!!!!!!

okay so my thoughts on the Off and Monster Seasons thing
it's interesting that they're announcing these together as one block, even going so far as sharing a title. it makes me curious how it's going to be adapted, because there's definitely enough material in Off Season for a two cour adaptation, and even more in Monster Season. the PV they released is focused entirely on the Off Season cast, so it's probably just going to be multiple seasons, but i wouldn't be surprised if there was something weird going on. still think it would be funny if they went for the Danganronpa 3 chaos option
the announcement video on youtube was going through all of Monogatari's anime, but interestingly, it had Hana in the novel order, but later kept Koyomi in the anime order
re-use of the old soundtrack. not sure if that's because they got Satoru Kosaki back (he would've been around to be working on the new soundtrack for Kizu, so it's possible) or if it was just because it was recognizable. i think Kosaki coming back is more likely than Kei Haneoka, since he's been busy ever since Monogatari ended
now let's talk about the poster
Tumblr media
once again, i find it remarkable that the name is "Off and Monster Season". no other season was formatted like this, which really makes me curious why
2024! we don't have to wait long for this. if i had to guess, since i'm not seeing a more specific date, it'll air in the fall
the text on the side of the poster reads "Monogatari series restart". they're making a point of the hiatus the series has had since 2018/2019
the actual poster: in order, we see Nadeko, Tsukihi, Mayoi, Suruga, and Yotsugi
Nadeko makes sense. promising tease for Nademonogatari, but the notebook also ties a bit into Tsukihi Undo. the new short hair design is great and i'm really excited to see more of it
next to her we have Tsukihi, and again, Tsukihi Undo. i really like her new design! i always liked her school uniform, but this new hairstyle really compliments it. looking forward to her becoming a magical girl
Mayoi doesn't actually have an arc of her own in Off Season, but she does appear in, once again, Tsukihi Undo. her appearance is the oddest here, but i'll get to that
Suruga! still in her school uniform, since she's now only a senior, but oddly, she still has her arm in the bandages. her Off Season arc, Suruga Bonehead, takes place solidly after Hana, and the key art she had for the arc in the novel had her with both arms uncovered, so i'm not sure what's up with that. it might just be that since this is going for "Monogatari's big return" they went for her most recognizable design
and then Yotsugi all the way at the top, the secret protagonist of Tsukihi Undo
so the conclusion i reach is that this is mostly focused on Tsukihi Undo, with three of the five characters being on here to represent that. Nadeko also makes an appearance in the arc, so Suruga is the odd one out, but Suruga is here for her own arc. this poster is very Wazamonogatari-heavy, but if that's where they were going for, then leaving Sodachi off feels very intentional. her arc has her disconnected from the rest of the cast, for the most part, so it could be intentional, or it could be because they have a big design shift for her in mind that they want to save for closer to when the anime airs properly. either way, this really only gives us some basic insight. Nadeko and Tsukihi are the two characters with new designs, and the rest are more of a "here's the other characters you also know". it's possible they didn't want to overload audiences with a bunch of redesigns all at once
Tumblr media
on the website for Off and Monster Season, we have a credits list:
Shaft are credited as animation work, naturally
Akio Watanabe is returning for character designs, as is quite apparent from the visual
Fuyashi Tou is credited for Series Composition, along with Akiyuki Shinbo. Fuyashi Tou is a pseudonym used at Shaft, and has been credited on a wide variety of their works, including every installment of Monogatari. Shinbo is slightly more of a real person, so this seems to be about the same as the original series was!
the real interesting thing to me: the director. this was something i was very excited to see, and i wasn't disappointed. it's not Oishi, and it's not Itamura. Monogatari is getting its third series director, Midori Yoshizawa. Yoshizawa is a bit of a new name to Shaft, overall, having started working as an animator around the days of Hana, but she quickly rose through the ranks and was credited as an episode director during Owarimonogatari, specifically for the second episode (you know, the Sodachi one, with all the colors and the stabbing and the hate? very promising for where Sodachi Fiasco is going). she steadily did more and more at the studio, to the point of being the assistant director for the second and third seasons of the MagiReco anime. but! this is her first time as series director! so it's a debuting director taking the lead. looking over her credits, i'm definitely confident in her ability to handle this series
oh and Shinbo is also credited as director. lol
there's some weird stuff here, like Suruga being in her old design, or the lack of Sodachi, or the name, but overall, i'm quite excited for where this is all going. more Monogatari is good no matter what, but even better for it to be promising. i look forward to what Yoshizawa can bring to the series, and i look forward to seeing Off and Monster Seasons adapted!!!

Today's translation #617
Newtype 01/2017, Otsuka Manabu interview
Part 1.
-- Please tell us about the circumstances, in which this project started moving?
Otsuka: I first got to know about this project, when I was told about it by the Director, Yamamoto Sayo, when we were working together on a different project. At first, I was very uncertain, if I and the studio have enough power to keep up with Yamamoto Director's TV series, because she always has been known as being very particular about quality. But inspired by the charming characters created by Kubo (Mitsurou)-san that I saw later, and Yamamoto Director insatiable love for figure skating, I decided 'let's try to do it!" and accepted the offer to work on this project.
-- When was it that you started to be sure that this project would be fine?
Otsuka: Maybe it wasn't that I was 'sure', but after we showed the second PV at 'TV Asahi Natsu Matsuri' event, I was able to think that I would trust Yamamoto Director's intuition and just run with what she feels is right. The last cut in that PV was the scene, where Victor puts his finger on Yuuri's lip and the two look at each other. When I saw it for the first time, I thought "[if we are going to show this scene in the PV] won't men not want to watch the show?" and I was considering removing that one scene from the PV. But I've talked about it with female staff members, who thought it would be a shame to not include it and I decided 'Let's [with force] put it in then!". People at the 'TV Asahi Natsu Matsuri' event venue cheered when that scene was shown. In this show, there is a lot of things that my senses did not cover, but at that time, I was able to think that [working on the project] I would realize all those ideas that Yamamoto Director and Kubo-san come up with without fear.
[Notes: It's really interesting how in almost all his interviews, Otsuka mentions this idea that including in an anime what your average otaku perceives as 'fujoshi fan-service scenes' (regardless of the creator's intentions - like, in even in YoI, a huge number of people in Jp fandom still sees those scenes as nothing more but fan-service, because that's the default) will give the anime reputation of pandering to fujoshis, and men (anybody other than fujoshis really) simply won't even consider it worth checking out. Otsuka doesn't even try to hide it here or in his other interviews, and like I've mentioned in the past, the way they were promoting Yurio so much, when Otsuka himself was claiming that thanks to Yurio, men could watch the show and enjoy it, shows, imo, what was the committee's real problem with YoI and why it may seem like they fumbled the bag and failed to capitalize on its potential so much (very little official side content, very few Y&V official arts etc...) - they wanted YoI to not be a 'fujoshi-pandering anime', but 'a serious sport anime for everyone'.]

The Witch and The Beast Episode 1: The Witch and The City of Blazing Red
Tumblr media
I'll be brutally honest: this is still a Yokohama production. Hamana brings some good work with their helming of the production, but there's still struggles. But in spite of those struggles I can't help but love this episode, and I can't help but want to talk about it. So let's talk about it.
First of all- the negatives. Characters are off model as often as they are on model, the animation is rather sparse and there's some awkward sequences throughout the episode. Some designs end up a little too simple for my tastes due to limitations with animation, and Hamana's storyboards and sense of direction do not mesh very well at all with this episode.
In spite of all of that there's still a mountain of work that I can only describe as incredible within.
For one, the environment art and art direction was superb. I was worried about how flat the colors were in the PVs, but this episode proved they're able to deliver a great deal of range on incredible environments that mesh 2D and 3D almost effortlessly. A Sign of Affection by and far has the best backgrounds in this season, but personally I'd put The Witch and The Beast as a reasonable second place (with Ishura hot on its tail).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The backgrounds in The Witch and The Beast really bring out the most in terms of style and color, really embodying Satake's modus operandi with them: very strong and full color palettes that hinge around a color or combination. It has me incredibly excited to see how they tackle other sequences in this season.
But that's about the only aspect in this episode that deserves its universal praise (aside from the OST, which is great) , the rest tend to come with a caveat. Like Hamana's boards.
I did sort of tear them apart earlier, but I'll come completely clean: there's still some really great layouts in this episode. They're not god tier and they miss out on the potential with symbolism and whatnot, but they're still damn good pieces that help sell the episode to viewers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then there's the animation. Hamana's boards don't really give much opportunity to effectively animate, but there's some sequences that really stand out.
Take, for example, Gideau eating. Sure, it might be a simple and short sequence but the fact that it was animated as well it was speaks volumes to the level of work that can appear with this series.
Tumblr media
Similarly, there's this clip of a rotoscoped Gideau winding up a punch for Ione. It might be a little awkward, but the idea and execution of the rotoscoped sequence was really cool to see.
Tumblr media
And there's a handful of other moments that express the surprisingly ability of Yokohama's animation for this series. Unfortunately we don't get much animation in Gideau's fight, but I'm hoping that we'll see better work done under more creative and involved storyboards we move along with this story.
It's overall a very middle of the road production with this first episode for sure, but I think that the bad parts are rather mild, while the good parts are quite inspiring. So rather than feeling concern or reservation with this adaptation, I oddly enough find myself excitedly waiting to see what Yokohama manages with the next episode!

So I saw the recent anime anniversary PV that the Digimon Partners Youtube channel put out and was honestly surprised when they breezed past everything after Frontier lol. I know that Toei/Bandai has a bias for the first four series in terms of celebrations and merch (even then that’s debatable for Frontier); but are there any examples of them doing modern merch for the newer series like Savers or Xros Wars (barring the TCG ofc)?
Well, the anniversary in question came with this nice key visual that they're now making merch out of as part of a gachapon lineup with every TV series:
Tumblr media
And even putting the 25th anniversary stuff aside, they have. If you go to the Digimon section of the Toei shop and scroll down, you can narrow it down by series. Everything listed in the sections for Savers and after is from 2020 or later. Of course, a lot of this is recent -- it's a byproduct of them getting much better at making efforts to acknowledge non-Adventure ever since there was an overhaul of IP-related direction back in 2020 (it hasn't been super publicized since it's mainly stuff to do with IP management in the background, but it's been a thing).
The problem is, it is a known fact that anything after Frontier does not sell (and even Frontier is on thin ice). The otedama (mini-plushes) for Savers, Xros Wars, and Appmon were the result of a poll held on Digimon Partners for what kind of later-series merch people wanted to see, because they really cannot be certain that they're actually going to be able to make enough to not turn out a loss on these. So in the end, I'll take this over the neverending "Adventure and tri. are the only things that exist" we had during the late 2010s.
They're not snubbing the later series because they don't care, it's just that we're still at the point where most average people don't even know what a Shoutmon is! (Well, except TCG players.) When that aforementioned gachapon was announced, one of the people in my group chat sadly pointed out that since every series shown in it has an equal chance of being pulled, more than 50% of people who play the gacha are going to get something after Frontier and say "I have no idea what this is, I wasted my money on a bad pull." So unless something can be done about the current state of things where you have to forcibly insert later-series stuff into random merch draws to get people to buy them, I can't really expect too much.

about waccha primagi.
it's ending.... (mega long who cares-type post)
once again, I've seen this coming for a while so I don't have a particularly big emotional reaction to it now. the anime not continuing immediately -> at all, the huge spotlight on idol land at the same time (and--bearing in mind that I don't know anything about anything--possible lack of people/time/money to support primagi as a result), the decrease in original coords and content in the game.... this alone was enough for me to start mourning primagi's loss way before it ended.
I haven't played for over a year, but I hope I can play again before it's over. I'd like to record a vid for each of the new songs I like at least... but I'm busy with yet another cross-country move to god knows where and possibly changing jobs so sadly this is very much on the back burner. maybe after work...? I'm so tired though (i _ i)
I've seen people wondering if the machine will be updated for the new series' game. but: recall that in the past, the new series was teased in pvs and stuff as the next step of pretty series, and that was it. yesterday's sort of stoic text discontinuation of service message is not a normal part of the change to a new series. and it's bad business practice to make us all depressed about the series ending without giving us something new to get excited about first. I think the cabinets will be removed from arcades eventually. I also think that will be the end of idol games in arcades period.
BUT--there is a new series coming. and I cannot imagine any possible reason for them to make an idol anime without an idol game for it to advertise. so that means... surely there must be a new game coming as well!! that leaves 3 possibilities as I see it:
1) actually the cabinet is just changing over normally and they're announcing it in the most disadvantageous way possible. why would they do this
2) another new cabinet?? what a waste of money that would be!! why not set it on fire instead??
3) a game on another platform?? likely smartphone, right? but then look what happened with idol land--how can they manage two apps at once? how can they expect anyone to trust them to do so?
I also would not trust them to do two separate idol apps at once without tanking both, but 3 is still my first choice here because it means people outside of japan can play too, and I don't have to dig out space for yet another card collection. but who knows what will happen. and we'll find out more about the new series soon enough--feb 2 is when the next Ciao with more info is out.
even though a new series is guaranteed, I still don't feel great about it. there's no guarantee yet that it will even be a full anime and not some piddly little webseries that's predestined for death. even if it is, there's still some stuff I feel primagi seriously whiffed on that could have helped its longevity, and some other circumstantial stuff that they had no control over, but which also hasn't been resolved. in the whiff category, the main thing I can recall atm is--why did they never make toys for this kids' anime? kids still want toys, right?? overall, the game felt a little less accessible for kids... or like they weren't pandered to enough? (not nearly to a degree as bad as Planet, though.) I mean, as with everything else I talk about ever, I don't know enough about the topic and am just saying things, but this always stuck out to me a bit. I remember commenting on it a couple times.
the circumstantial stuff is more significant, though. the big one is covid. of course Japan is business as usual by now, like everywhere else I know of, but I just have not seen as many people playing in arcades since 2020. that is especially true for aikatsu and pretty series. the other one: I wonder if idols in general are losing their appeal? I know of a few idol game apps that have ended in the past couple years, and then of course there's aikatsu... recently even Idolm@ster Cinderella Girls Starlight Stage, a game I have played religiously for years, has been making suspicious movements that have really put me on edge. is no one interested in idol series anymore? more broadly speaking, does it seem like there is less anime oriented at young girls overall today as compared to several years ago, or is it just me...?
with that as the backdrop in my mind, though, primagi ending feels more tragic. I may not be drowning in tears, but I am really, truly going to miss it. I honestly think that it had the best story of all of pretty series. I know Rainbow Live is everyone's fav--I like it too!--but it did have this soap opera level of drama that felt facetious and silly if you thought about it too hard. I think there is a certain type of person that will say "but that's why it was the best!! primagi would never!!", and don't get me wrong!! I just said I like it and I think it's fun too!! but I am not talking about opinion, or which was more tongue-in-cheek so-ridiculous-it's-good, which I think is another way to like something ironically. I am only interested in liking things genuinely (bc of the mental illness), and I think primagi was a more genuine example of storytelling with less drama for drama's sake. it also had interesting and unexpected and heart-warming character interaction in the same way RL did. it wasn't perfect, but it was very good. I wish it was longer.
and god, the game looks SO GOOD. I still can't believe how good it looks. I miss notes in the game all the time bc I'm too busy staring with heart eyes at how cute and cool and pretty my idols are in it. the music is SO GOOD, and I know that's very much a matter of opinion, but even by a vaguely more objective metric: I don't find myself thinking "discount kpop" like in Aikatsu Friends sometimes or feeling absolutely, totally unimpressed like in Planet always. the songs were unique for idol anime and kids' anime, and different from the popular stuff my students listen to as well. even if you didn't like the music, it was certainly interesting.
and the coords are AMAZING... they really took advantage of the game's graphics to do fun things with textures and shapes, and even the most fantastical outfits are designed realistically, by which I mean, I know exactly how I can recreate them irl to look exactly like they do in the anime AND ALSO look pretty... given access to enough money. (this was true for pripara as well. but it was something that bothered me a lot in prichan, bc there were a lot of coords that looked like bad papercraft or just plain bad, and would be impossible to recreate irl, and might look awful even if you could.) even though the game is ending and I have to save for the move, I want to buy up all of the cards for coords I like just to have them! and don't get me started on how cute the cards themselves are!!
...but primagi is still ending. I'll live. I don't expect much from the new series in terms of longevity or how much I like it, but I do still hope to be proved wrong.
and in the end, you know what? I never got a decent hairstyle for Biscuit. I'm stuck with the starter twintails to this day. they never released a DARKER SKIN COLOR. maybe primagi had to die all along.

there's a brief overview and explanation of the new operator skills and gameplay, but i won't go over that here because there's still a lot to get to. however, gamepress usually releases a review on these operators after release, and youtubers like kyostinv will upload showcases pretty quick after they drop, for people who are curious about them
there's a very cute PV about kjerag! it goes into the history of the country and some cultural celebrations about kjeragandr, as well as development of the country and such. it's pretty cute (and sorta wes anderson-ish)

AK artbook announcements: Arknights Animation Artworks Vol. 1 and Arknights Official Artworks Vol. 3 are being released, with Vol. 3 being teased with an art of the 3 abyssal hunters(!!!)

AK Cafe with Chongyue, Ines, and Goldenglow on the promotional artwork in Shanghai and Chengdu next year (AK X PrismLand), called Sweet Zone
AK collab with the Nanyue King Museum (yes, really)
new merch promo that shows what looks to be different plushies (originium slug, chibi nian in dragon(?) form, bunnies), character-in-a-recruitment-bag sora, and figures of Eyjafjalla (swimsuit skin ver.), Shining, and Amiya (these are not new, it's probably a sale or a re-run of some kind)
lowlight breaks eggs with the lethanien icon on them. with a giant hammer. yeah
promo for something that's called My First Story, looks like it's an animated song PV featuring W, Amiya, and Kal'tsit
lore about The First Catastrophe and a timeline of Terran history. the twin empresses are revealed to be Hildegard and Lieselotte (yes, really); the witch king is Herkunftshorn
there's some more extra goodies (like a Monster Siren Records promo, what looks like a new season of CC, a new Joint Action banner with Mizuki, Suzuran, Surtr, and Pozyemka, new ops now available in recruitment like Flint, Eunectes, and Acid Drop, a new free skin - maybe from a record restoration? - for Flamebringer) but i think i'll hit tumblr's picture limit if i include all of those.
that's a wrap!
(shoutout to discord user @/nobowo) who also gave a short stream recap in my arknights LGBT discord server)
