Hiya, Magical Cuties!! Me be Rini - the lil queer clown that runs this circus. A lot has happened to my family, leading to me being stuck in a very emotionally and financially draining situation. The income from my job (in which my hours have been cut dramatically) and passive income from this blog isn’t quite enough to supplement the income that was recently lost. Any goals of dental work and moving out of state for my mental health have been halted and helping my family pay bills/debts is now the priority.

As a result, I’m selling off new/unused to lightly used clothing from my family’s closets, which include both “feminine” and “masculine” clothing that range from sizes XS-5XL with a lot of it $10-20 and under. I list on multiple platforms (vinted, depop, mercari and poshmark) and graciously accept donations, all of those links can be found here!! Everything needs to go ASAP!!

I love slip dresses. They’re wonderfully easy (at least in my experience) to get for a good price, secondhand! I get mine on eBay. Then I wash them, often with white vinegar because they all have the same odd, overwhelming smell. You can add vinegar to your usual cycle or you can do one cycle with vinegar instead of detergent. Next, do a regular cycle with detergent. Once dry, the vinegar smell will be gone, and the former odor will either be gone or fainter. You can do more vinegar cycles, or soak in a vinegar/water ratio. If the items are satin, I iron them, and hang them straight so as not to wrinkle them. Upon wearing, I accessorize lots. I wear a black cami and black shorts for the base layer. Those are my tips for easy romantic, gothic, vampiric fashion. I wear a 3X or 22/24 in most brands, I filter my eBay search results by ‘pre-owned,’ and I give sellers a chance to send me a discount after showing interest in the item :)

eBay is also great for corsets and other lingerie to incorporate into your outfits. Torrid, Lane Bryant, and Frederick’s of Hollywood have plus size items like these that pop up on eBay. If the seller includes the brand’s name, try looking up that brand’s size chart online to see if the garment will work for you. Buying a beautiful garment only to have it be too small is very disappointing.

Wanting to dress properly gothic is pretty hard I’m not gonna lie. You don’t want to buy brand new clothes because number 1 that’s expensive as hell and 2 I don’t want clothes made by slave labor. But every one online keeps saying to go to thrift stores and I need y’all to know: it’s not that easy because thrift stores are literally overrun by horrible quality stuff, it’s almost all shein now. And so many people online overestimate what type of clothing you’ll find. I live in what basically amounts to a village. The couple thrift stores I have in my area incredibly Christian coded, and not in a cool edgy way but in a 2010’s blue and coral type of way. The most annoying thing is that even trying to dye it black doesn’t work, because that only works on 100% cotton and guess what shein clothes aren’t made of.

Don’t even get me started on online thrifting because goddamn those bitches UP CHARGE SO MUCH HOLY FUCK

So what I’m doing now is saving up for a sowing machine so I can start making my own stuff!

Opinion; Etsy thrift shops mark their items up entirely too fucking high.

So I’m a routine thrift/ antique/ second hand shop hunter at multiple stores within the radius of where I live, I also shop loosely often on Etsy, and once in a while on eBay. I’ve obtained a multitude of good finds throughout the years, but I notice entirely too often a lot of the thrifty/ vintage shops on Etsy that sell decor or fashion/clothing mark their pieces up (in my opinion) entirely too fucking high. I notice these shops marking their pieces at around 80$-70$, and it’ll be like a vintage dress that’s really cute- but not 80$ cute; but the type of item I guarantee I’ve ran across at some point at goodwill where they’re asking 7$ for it. Now I’m sure some will say; well then go buy it for cheaper elsewhere, sure thing I definitely plan to, however it’s still something that I’m gonna give my thoughts on because I can.

Now listen; their shop, their shit, their call on what they wanna ask for it- I know that. I also get the economy is dogshit right now and everybody is broke as a joke, as am I. Yet; my opinion still stands that these type of shops are too often wildly overpriced. I mean, I guess if you drive a Rolls Royce & have disposable income 80$ for a plaid skirt is peanuts, so perhaps that’s the target demographic here. Alas, I’ll stick to dirt cheap steals that don’t cost a king’s ransom.
