Yamcha if you're still doing the character meme?

I am still doing these, and I’m enjoying it, so keep ‘em coming.   Before I start, let me promote the original post, in case anyone else wants to start their own thing.  I’d link to the OP, but I guess they deleted this from their blog, probably because their notifications went nuts.

Give me a character and I will answer:

Why I like them: Let’s be honest, Yamcha doesn’t get a lot of big “hero moments” in Dragon Ball.   Or Dragon Ball Z, or Dragon Ball GT, or Dragon Ball Su-- Look, you get the idea.   In most arcs, he’s the first one to get benched.   In tournaments, he always loses in the first round.   He spent the King Piccolo Saga recovering from a broken leg.    Against the Saiyans, he was the first one to die.  Against the Androids, he was nearly killed and had to sit out the rest of that arc.   In the Buu Sagas he was retired.    In a number of major storylines, he just isn’t there, because no one called him.

But he remains a fixture in the franchise anyway, because he’s always showing up for more.  Let’s take the Buu Saga as an example.   It didn’t surprise me to find out he had retired, mainly from a dramatic standpoint.    There’s a lot of new characters in the Buu arc, and it made sense for some of the older characters to step aside and make room for them.   But he’s still there, because he wants to see Goku one last time, and he wants to hang out with his friends and watch some of them kick the crap out of each other.   It was kind of sad to see him stay behind while the others rushed off to follow the Supreme Kai, but he’s retired, after all.    Also, they didn’t stop to fill him in on what was happening.    I suspect he might have tagged along if they asked.  

As it was, he still ended up getting involved, and he was with the Dragon Team right up until Super Buu cornered them on the Lookout.     And the next time we see him, he’s on the Grand Kai Planet with Krillin, and King Kai seriously considers sending them in to take on Buu in case Goku and Vegeta can’t get the job done.   

And that’s a big deal, because it even comes up in the anime.   King Kai tells them that he arranged for them to keep their bodies as a precaution, but he’s totally in favor of letting them remain on the Grand Kai Planet with all of the other honored warriors, like Goku.  So you start with this desert bandit, a highwayman without a highway, probably because he’s afraid of all the women that use the interstate.   But he gradually overcomes his fears and insecurities, never completely, but just enough to put one foot in front of the other and become a better man.    And finally he ends up receiving a place among the great heroes of old.  

So why doesn’t that get more attention?   You could make a whole epic story out of that, except it’s not Yamcha’s story.  He’s a supporting character.   So the franchise itself tends to play it down.    Even Yamcha doesn’t really take it all that seriously.   I don’t know if that’s modesty or cluelessness or Big Himbo Energy or what, but that’s why it’s so easy for everyone to write him off as a loser or a failure.   They’re overlooking the bigger picture.

The best way to illustrate this is with this TFS short that serves as an epilogue to their DBZ Abridged series.   Yamcha goes back to playing baseball for the Taitans, only to get fired, because he’s so talented that he’s literally broken the game, and no one buys tickets anymore.    But he gets a gigantic severance package, and he still goes down in history as the greatest ballplayer in history.  What always gets to me is that they have to explain to him that this is actually a win.  As his coach puts it, “you do nothing but win.”   

Like Yamcha himself, we often see him from the lens of these insane Dragon Ball adventures, where you have to have glowy hair and a hot cyborg wife to be considered a success.   But to the rest of the world, he’s a jacked up millionaire with fantastic hair, and he’s a real sweetheart.   Who couldn’t like this dude?

Why I don’t: As you may have noticed, I tend to only use this section to talk about why I disliked the characters initially.   I have to think back to 1999 when I was still having trouble keeping track of who’s who.   In particular, I found Yamcha’s presence frustrating because he looked and dressed almost exactly like Goku, but not quite, which seemed bizarre.    Later, I picked up on the context, and it didn’t bother me as much.  

Yamcha does have a bit of an overconfident streak in some situations, which might look like unfounded arrogance, but I think it’s really just his carefree nature and enthusiastic can-do spirit.   He was confident about their chances against the Saiyans, but I don’t think that was him being cocky.   He just knew they had all trained hard and he was stronger than he’d ever been.    But that’s easy for people to jump on as a reason to hate the guy.  

Future Trunks claimed that he fooled around while he was involved with Bulma, but come on.    Does anyone really buy that?    Besides, at best, that would only apply to Future Yamcha, the one who died in the other timeline.   Once Trunks changed the past, all bets were off.

Favorite episode (scene if movie): I’m gonna get a little nuts here and go with TFS’s playthrough of Legacy of Goku I, where they decided to level up Yamcha and have him solo Broly.

Basically, in an RPG game like this, Wolf Fang Fist can do monster damage, so they maxed out Yamcha’s stats to wreck the game’s hidden superboss.  You have to skip to 1:40:00 or so to see the successful attempt, but I loved this video.   This is where I learned to respect the utterance of “Roga... fufuken!”  Broly probably would have respected it, too, except he died from all those hits he took.

Favorite season/movie: You know, that fight with Tien was a classic.   Not sure it’s in my top ten, but it’s on a lot of people’s lists, and I absolutely get that.

Dumb as it may sound, I enjoyed seeing Yamcha in the hospital, wrestling with his own despair as he recuperated from his broken leg.   And when he shows up at the end to congratulate Tien and accepts Tien’s apology, well, like I said, Yamcha has this great character arc, but it’s easy to overlook with everything else that goes on.

Favorite line: I forget which game it was in, maybe Budokai 3, but one of his pre-fight taunts is “Watch this, Puar!  I’m gonna win!”, which always makes me think of Puar sitting just off-camera, watching the action from a little lawn chair.  

Favorite outfit:

I may take some heat for this, but I like the Androids/Cell Saga version of Yamcha, with the short, spiky hair.  This dude’s long, luxurious rockstar ‘do is a national treasure, sure, but I dig this look more.  

Also, I consider Yamcha to be the only guy from the Turtle School who pulls off the slippers and no-blue-undershirt look.   It looks off when I see it on Krillin and Goku, but with Yamcha it just feels right. 

OTP: This guy gets shipped with a lot of people, probably because he’s one of the major characters without an established love interest.   Folks still carry a torch for Bulma, some people ship him with Tien, Frieza hit on him in FighterZ, and I’m still trying to make sense of that.   He flirts with your character in the Xenoverse games.    Years ago, I considered doing something with that, but I’ve fleshed out my OC enough to where I don’t think that fits. 

At the end of the day, I can only see Yamcha getting together with @cozymochi ‘s OC, Marzi.  

Brotp: Tien, Krillin, Goku.  Hell, I always figured Yamcha was one of the few people Vegeta could get along with to some extent.  

I mean, Tien couldn’t stand to be one the same planet as Vegeta, but Yamcha keeps coming over to have hot dogs at Bulma’s place, long after the Namekians have left.  

Head Canon: He’s Luffa’s type, don’t get me wrong.    I just don’t see any room in my fic for a whirlwind courtship.    The stars just don’t align.

Unpopular opinion: I’m not really behind this notion that they should give the humans more stuff to do in future series.   When it comes to supporting characters, sometimes they get phased out, and there’s no point in phasing them back in unless there’s a compelling story idea for them.   

I think it’s dumb how they teased Yamcha in the Tournament of Power prelude, only to leave him out of the tournament itself.    On the other hand, they put Tien on the team and barely used him, which tells me that even if they’d put Yamcha on the team, it wouldn’t have amounted to anything.   

I get it, people love these characters and want to see them used more, but I’d rather have one strong Yamcha story than a hundred non-starters.  And at this point, I think the only thing anyone can do is rely on fan-created content.    Be the change you want to see in the world.

A wish: Crap, it’s after ten pm.    I dunno, I wish Marzi was canon.  

An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: I feel like the character’s already been through worse than I could come up with for him.

I feel like too often superhero shows/movies just either completely gloss over the effects this stuff has on society as a whole, or it’s like a completely new thing for them, like there’s never been the concept of a fictional superhero or a comic book there before.

yes. official. overseen by the government. I’m not saying it’s necessarily a good idea bc I’m not getting into the whole mess the MCU basically did regarding that, but it really does add to the worldbuilding and making it seem more realistic/draw you in a little more because you can bet that would be a thing that would actually happen in some capacity if such a large percentage of the population had superpowers, and crime was at an all-time high at the same time, with normal methods without powers likely not doing much to combat that, and it being even harder because everyone’s is different

Latte, who we highly suspect also having penchant for violence, thinking inwardly how cutesy and adorbsy the inhabitants of the scary looming black tower were.

Yes, she was seeing blue beating red and thinking it's cutesy. Maybe she's being affected by murderous bunny and his tower's conduct (as it certainly not befitting a lady) (meanwhile our standard reaction is screaming MAGE FIGHT! MAGE FIGHT! but we're not a noble lady)

anyway, Latte noted that the tower inhabitants seemingly young. Combined with the trivia that tower is a place where only the most talented magicians can reside (I'm actually kinda interested to see what will the test to get inside the tower and became its resident be), there seems many young mage geniuses (but bunny is still #1! yeah, errr...so is his childishness as well)

anyway, blue quickly encroached Latte's personal space (again, we see his master's influence there) and *very* formally introduce himself as bluntbob (we're gonna let him keep his name, because, not gonna lie, we don't know many haircuts enough to make a joke)

meanwhile Red goes, "tf u so polite for?" but bluebob (oops sorry, old  habit dies hard) bluntbob remind him that this creature is the master's guest (a RARE creature! ....what, does they suspect her to be dragon-in-disguise or something? that can shoot laser from her eyes?) (oy, what are you thinking about bunny?) (well, if he's interested in something, it can't be good...I meant it must be something unique, right?)

Red, I meant Veryred (not gonna lie #2, it seems the author also didn't have many knowledge about haircut either. Meanwhile, I was very sure that haircut is standard-short-waxy/wavy-cut-with-bangs-on-the-side, but veryred sounds perfect) introduce himself with a wink and teehee - which offend bob's aesthetics somehow and went for a strangle (CHOKEHOLD! CHOKEHOLD!) and both bickering about their preferences of nickname for Latte. my, how childish these two kids are. how immature. heh heh.

Arwin, the CONFIDENT man who sees female lead Ibelin singing on stage and very matter-of-factly claim 'I'm Prettier." lean close and ask if Latte referring ('that's cute') comment to him. Latte is, hey how on earth are you cute (btw, in case you forgot, she thinks that monster are cuter than him. but don’t worry bunny, you already have your ‘prettiest’ and ‘op as fuck’ throne) so Latte said that comments is referring to her. and Arwin is like 'oho? you're cute?' and Latte is 'Yes, yes, I'm so so very cute, watch my lethal wink beam of cutesyness'  (and we thought to ourselves how veryred would tearfully relinquish his cutest-in-tower throne once Latte reside here. Sorry, red, you just didn't have the chance).

Alas, Latte forgot who her opponent is! As the master of the tower of magic, of course, Arwin will be immune even to deadliest charm spell ever was. Too bad, but don't be sad Latte, it's not your fault, it's just bunny that's abnormal, that's all, feel free to beam us again with your lethal charm spell! (.......are we serious?) (what? you want us to chant SPELLFIGHT! SPELLFIGHT! instead?) (hey, actually, don't you think charm spell fighting between Latte and Arwin will be a interesting?) (yeah, but Latte is not a magician) (and she'll lose once Arwin like, leaned *real* close to her face, no mp need to be involved)

Arwin also asking if Latte is sane (hey! that's rich, coming from you bunny!) (but wait, seriously. Latte just saying something about lethal in front of the tower lord, it could be perceived as threat right? uh? maybe? I didn't know what psychopaths thinks *looking around to check pyschopath division* ('well, hell~o there kitty *low whistle and then start serenading in garbled italian while kitty looks in disgust*) (....forget it, we don't know that shameful creature *nod nod* okay, let's just move on)

anyway, psychopath bunny half-joking (or maybe not, we can't tell) that being in those fools presence seemingly making Latte even crazier and should he *takes care* of them? and by *takes care* he meant kill, as in outrightly says it, because he's the master of magic tower and didn't give a fuck about police.

Latte, though not really right in the head herself (sometimes) but definitely know which one of them is crazier and immediately call it! and also immediately shutting herself up, because reminding a psychopath that he's a psychopath is never a good move. Fortunately (or unfortunately for those who still want a date chapter) in-walked another third wheel-Arobrock.

/by the way, just a quick review on dis pair progress: + Arwin no longer attempt to get into Latte's face (learned the safe distance) + Latte, no longer defer herself as court clown (must appease the sireeeee, if wanna liveeee). She can be the clown at her own pace now, tyvm. (well, she got that super rare 'won't kill you' card) //

Anyway, Arobrock mentioning his surprise that Arwin back so early since he's usually spending his sweet, sweet time pummeling the irritation, so why? Arwin is like, "eh, I feel like it" *steal glance to Latte*

Arwin-Arobrock freely talking about their threatening other country so casually. And the conversation so casually devolves into murder plan. Particularly Arwin mentioned that since he had give the koi country a nice reminder ('I let you go this time with compensation money, but next time, your head will flies off’) - so if the kois still dare to came next time, Arobrock should just kill them by himself *If we’re in gangster movies, this must be where the FBI wiretapper pumps out their fist and shout in joy that they got the murder plan confession on tape or something*

By the way, just for recap: Two kois came to the tower with their guards and wrecking about. The tower owner returned, extremely displeased and delivered them back with a warning and demand for reparation. If we thought Tower as independent nation, it'll be like, Vatican? it's small, and located within another country, but have their own government. To fucking attack it  = declaring war on another country = reparation needed. Honestly, why does princes keep making mistakes like this, do they think Tower as some kind of cheap bar where they can flaunt 'don't you know who I am? I'm a prince!" *gets slapped and then the owner morph to a dragon who breathes fire/pummeling the king or whomever it is until they agree to give compensation*

BTW, why the wizards seemingly like money? well, since they only have small land (only the tower and its surrounding?) they probably didn't have any resources except their wizardly selves (and various magical objects/potions/artifacts they make). It's not like they can tax all the wizards in the world......? actually, that would be....no no no, it's still hard to do, magicians are spread far and wide all across the continents (they're too snobbish to get along together in same place?) but since they're magicians, they are UNDER the tower's administration and jurisdiction. So theoritically, if the Tower Lord issuing command that all magicians gets into war with country A, they must serve? Well, *theoritically* but since magicians are prideful snobbish bunch, they might get 'huuuh? never heard you before in my life and now you told me to kneel and heel? want to taste my fireball?'-> which I think this is why the Tower Lord's seat is only for the strongest - so if it comes to it, the tower lord can just burn that rogue mage with his *stronger* fireball and carry on the plan without any more hitch. see Arwin's laughing face as the tower cower in fear here? It make a good motivational reminder poster.

............but it's kinda makes a question why does the Tower just let the koi princes makes a mess in the first place. and Arobrock just answers that with a money sign.

ok so here’s me hyping up Camila for longer than anyone asked for but this album...is just so good and when she said visual I’m like yeah ok but... I SAW so many things and so many lyrics/songs reminded me of things that have happened to me and I’m like, you know what? time to overshare

TRACK 1 SHAMELESS: ok so obviously I’ve listened to this before like a million times, but when I first heard it, I was very much like... I don’t like it. and then I listened to it again and I’m like haha nevermind I was wrong (i do this all the time don’t @ me I know I suck) the way she says “shameless” with that rasp? screaming her lungs out? yeah, bitch, I feel that. I hear that. and just the whole vibe of YEAH I feel this way and WHAT ABOUT IT.

favorite lyrics: “Now that you have me, do you want me still?” “I’m tired of loving somebody that’s not mine”

TRACK 2 LIVING PROOF: Every performance of this...makes me love it more and more. The choir singing hallelujah...gave me the VISUALS bc ya girl grew up Catholic, and I couldn’t help but imagine that Easter day where everyone is praising and saying hallelujah and it’s just such a pure JOY. and with the God references and “being sent to save me” just getting major church vibes. AND her high notes in the chorus...we stan a queen with TALENT. I love how she references hands a few times because I just love when you can communicate something just through touch. I think that is truly the deepest form of knowing someone.

TRACK 3 SHOULD’VE SAID IT: ok now I’m just going to sit here with my jaw dropped open because SIS said what we’ve been saying for SO LONG. The theme of “change” is so strong in this, and I just love how she portrays it. And her talking about the songs not sounding the same...she’s literally like yeah I get you wrote songs about me, but have you heard of imessage? a phone? But this is the kind of song that I want to scream at the top of my lungs and dance to in my living room, but, alas, I cannot relate. I can’t get one person to love me, how tf would I get 2? And the way she says “so sorry” like she...is not sorry. and I LOVE IT and it just really drives the point across, like, I’ve moved on, you didn’t say anything. 

favorite lyrics: “baby, he fell from grace, landed right in your place” “I wish you could turn back time, and hold me closer, instead of your pride” (OUCH BABY YES SING IT)

TRACK 4 MY OH MY: catch me shakin my ass to this till I die. I just love the FEEL of this. and her YELLING “I swear on my life that I’ve been a good girl” and the “Tonight I don’t wanna be her” like yes bitch let her be BAD for a night baby you GO GIRL. Listen, I will never get sick of the falling for a bad boy narrative. Sign me the fuck up, every damn time. Like, yeah? I’ve been good, time to be bad bitch. and her LAUGHS during the rap. I love her wow. The chorus is just so CATCHY. It’s just sooo bad boy narrative, my parents don’t like him, not being a good girl for the night, and again, always a hoe for that. ALWAYS.

TRACK 5 SENORITA: I’ve talked about this 5 million times, but I’m a proud mom so here we go again! The fact that they collabed again, was enough to fuel me for years, bc my prime was during IKWYDLS. What a good era. This song makes me feel DAMN SEXY. I want every song to make me feel this way. every time they say “oh la la” just send me to my grave. and shawn’s “call” during the chorus...speechless still. I love a good friends to lovers (in song and IRL we love that for them). I just love the aspect of yeah it’s hard to leave you but every time we touch just reminds me that this is all worth it. AGAIN with the TOUCH being just the most intimate way of knowing someone.

TRACK 6 LIAR: this bb was my fave when it came out with shameless. I LOVE the whole theme of I said one thing but now you’re changing my mind and making me seem like a liar. I also love the trumpets. I love a good trumpet in a song if it’s used well. AND with the whole, yeah I’m a liar, and what about it? I like clapping along to the bridge in the car. and then fuckin dancing to the chorus. peep me screaming this in my car all the gah damn time. also, the lying to yourself? the worst kind. and this song just being the RECOGNIZATION of yeah... I am lying to myself. you KNOW? like that “oh fuck” feeling, like you’ve been denying it and denying it and denying it and finally you’re just like...oh shit. and then you just fuckin GO FOR IT because you realize it now and now we’re making up for lost time. and then the final “cause my clothes are on the floor” jaw DROP first time hearing that like yes baby. and I usually skip instrumentals at the end of songs bc I usually think they’re stupid and pointless ope but THIS is the only one I don’t skip because it’s too damn catchy

TRACK 7 BAD KIND OF BUTTERFLIES: my heart hurts, honestly. like in that first chorus where she’s like you’re going to hate me after you find this out. just BREAKS me. it’s just very stuck between a rock and a hard place. she wasn’t going to win this fight. it was going to hurt no matter what she decided. she was going to hurt someone she cared about no matter what she chose. the way she says “tonight” with that note run yes baby yes. and like living proof, I love the high note chorus. and the way she says “the bad kind of butterflies like when you have something to hide” like I FELT that shit. those kinds of butterflies are the freaking WORST when you just know you have to tell someone about something because it’s just eating you alive. her voice just perfectly portrays the feeling this song encapsulates. 

favorite lyrics: “don’t look at me while I’m breaking” “I understand if you hate me” “I know I said we were friends and when I said that, I meant it, somewhere between now and then it became more than just a friendship”

TRACK 8 EASY: out of her songs that came out before the album was released, this was my favorite. just...i get so speechless and I have no words, it’s just so beautiful. like having someone who loves you, who sees your flaws, and doesn’t freaking care. like that first verse is like “yeah we both know I got flaws but you love me anyway.” and the whole thing of really, really knowing someone and really, really loving them is just so damn heartwarming. and feeling hard to love? yeah, Camila, I GET THAT. someone find me a man who feels this way about me. and just having someone...who loves you...until you can love yourself... I want one. and again with the TOUCHING, I see a theme here baby and I’ll talk more on that later. that bridge just freaking hits me and when she sang this on SNL I could just SEE how much this song meant to her and she looked so content singing it. 

favorite lyrics: “You tell me that you'd rather fight than spend a single peaceful night with somebody else” “tell me with your hands that you’re never leaving” “All I know is you saved me and you know it” 

TRACK 9 FEEL IT TWICE: this...hurt me. because this is my worst fear. like having someone fall for you, and you don’t feel it, and then suddenly to be in love with them and for them to be like I’m sorry but I don’t feel that way anymore. and I just love that this one is a lot less of “you fucked up” like should’ve said it and more like “I hate that things had to happen this way and I don’t want to hurt you but I can’t do anything else.” it’s heart-wrenching. and just WISHING that this wasn’t the case, but it’s just how it is. because that’s how love works. you can’t force it if it isn’t there anymore or was never there at all. and keeping the distance because there’s nothing else you can do and it’s the only option because there’s just this tension no matter what you do. because it’s there no matter what. and the PARALLEL of “how can I be your friend when I know the way you taste” and “but friends don’t know the way you taste” in senorita makes me think that she was writing this song while she was writing senorita and that’s why she added it in later. but pertaining to my life... I don’t relate because I feel everything like 8 million times and I catch feelings for anyone who looks at me and I go back and forth on crushes all the time (there are like 5 coming to my head rn wow I am the worst).

I feel this shit in my SOUL. and “he’s a right answer” reminded me of the most recent episode of The Good Place (iykyk). also, I don’t know WHY but I love the line with “a confessed sinner” bc, again, ya girl grew up Catholic. he got that post confession GLOW. that “I just got everything off my chest, and I feel GREAT.” and this one, with all she’s doing all day, is dreaming of him, yeah I am a hardcore daydreamer. so that’s me hello. and the transition of “I dream of you” to “I dream with you”...take my heart and throw it at a wall. the DESPERATION in “please say you dream of me too” like PLEASE tell me this is mutual because you literally take up all my time so please tell me you feel the same way.

TRACK 11 CRY FOR ME: this high key reminds me of “Dead” by Madison Beer. but anyways. it’s so SASSY and I LOVE IT. I just love the feeling of someone moving on first, and then the other person moving on, and then the first person being like oh shit what you moved on what. like just wanting someone to HURT because what the FUCK? like why do you gotta do this bro? and just the yeah I know I shouldn't feel this way but fuck it. and I love that just lie to me. like you know what, tell me you miss me, so I can feel good about this. and the screaming in “HOW CAN YOU BE OK” like BITCH I’m HURTING so CRY PLEASE

TRACK 12 THIS LOVE: this is one of my favorites. I love how it’s soft? but also, not soft at all. like FUCK this love. the building walls just to watch them fall? like yes, sis I just wrote a poem about this a few months ago bc it is me. like that person, you built walls up before and they just keep knocking them down. and then you regret it, every time and build them up again (s/o to my shit middle school friend yike) and just the feeling of getting pulled in this cycle over and over again. you can just HEAR the desperation in her voice in parts of this and I love when you can hear that. I also like the use of “maybe” like this love is fucking hell but maybe don’t let me go just yet but on the other hand, maybe you should. AND ending with the “here I go again” just yeah stab me in the heart.

TRACK 13 USED TO THIS: pull out your tissues ladies. I was most excited about this one, and she PULLED THROUGH and lived up to my expectations. I’m always a sucker for the whole vibe of “I hated this place but now I have this special memory there and now I love it.” the transformation from hate to love in so many ways. to find a person who does that, it just doesn’t happen a lot. now time to unnecessarily connect it to my life but not really because ladies and gents, I fell for my best friend. he was the most amazing guy ever. and he was my best friend and suddenly it was like...oh fuck. and the line about whispering his name differently and can’t you hear it? just reminded me of him right away. because of that FEELING of seeing them and knowing you have these feelings and being like...can you hear the change in my voice? (he didn’t btw. that was sad. this song will be “what could've been” for me. lol. bye). and the “feeling” with that touching again HELLO. and the drink clinks in the background love that. friends to lovers? yeah, sign me the fuck up. and I love the use of “definitely” like that hesitation of yeah it’s going to take me a sec but I’m DEFINITELY getting used to this.

TRACK 14 FIRST MAN: ok. I know I said grab your tissues. but here’s where you really need them. when I say I sobbed, I freaking MEAN IT. like I was getting ready for school this morning at 6 am while listening to the album and it was only me and my dad awake and this just hit me so hard. I’m super close with my dad, so I really really feel this. Once the song was done, I went and found him and I was still crying and he’s like WHATS WRONG and I gave him a hug and I tried to explain what it was about and he’s like yeah no won’t listen to it. going to cry. then I texted him later and he listened and you bet my father cried as hard as I did. he literally said he was in the bathroom trying to compose himself (spoiler, my scary dad is soft af but don’t tell anyone and expose him. literally the other night i said i probably cry every day and he said yeah me too). it’s so soft, and just, yes this is happening, but that doesn’t mean I’m cutting you out of my life. like this man is everything you ever wanted for me, and I know this is damn hard, but it’s going to be worth it. and the transition of spending all the time with family to spending time with this man you want a future with. and like y’all know that breaks a parent’s heart but at the same time, it’s all they want for you. and the progression of just being with that guy and then to the wedding day. and the part where he says she’ll always be his little girl. ugh, this whole song is my dad and I love it and hate it because the amount of tears I’ve cried today is unhealthy. and in general, I just love how soft this is and you can just hear the love in her voice. FINAL THOUGHTS 1) I AM SO HAPPY WITH THE WHOLE ALBUM. I love all of these songs so much, and they’re all so VISUAL just like she said they were going to be. I love when you can see a song. That is just so damn powerful.

2) THE THEME OF TOUCHING. guys, I am O B S E S S E D with this. like I said before, I think it is such a RARE form of intimacy and love for someone when you can communicate something with a touch. Like that hand on the shoulder or on your back or knee or whatever. but just KNOWING what they’re saying. I love how she addressed it multiple times and you see it weaved into so many songs of that touch communication.

3) I saw this on twitter, and I think it was part of an official review or something. But the journey of “hey I’m falling in love and here are the trials and tribulations of it” and then ending with “I can feel this way because you taught me” is just...so amazing and powerful.

What is the biggest change that’s occurred so far with your WIP?

Well Gali became Disaster Bi so I consider that an improvement over Just a Trash Mess when my friend played her so.... XD But in seriousness, I'd say the 3rd book. For a long time I struggled with how I'd end it. It came super slow but luckily as I pinned down the first 2 books is came to me finally. I was very very stressed over it.

Was writing something you eventually picked up or was it something you’ve always wanted to do?

A friend of mine in 7th grade English was writing her own story (as 12 year old girls do) and she turned to me one day and said "You should write. You'd be amazing at it, you read so much!" I'd never considered how books came to be until that moment. So I started writing! So it kinda just... happened.

Any fandom related things that inspired your work?

Not really. I actually actively avoid fandom. I tend to have Controversial opinions on Things and even back in my youth (bitchyouarenotoldbutokay) people would NOT be happy and chase me out. So I've kinda always done my own thing. Floated on the edges of fandoms for books and video games I love. That's all.

Do you use face-claims?

Generally no. I always have in my mind how they look and rarely does a face claim match up. Chernolo is one of the few exceptions. I had a vauge idea for him, found a pic of it to-be face claim and it clicked. I'm pretty sure he was going "That's how I look mom. That. Nothing else will do." Tenshi I already knew how he looked. When I stumbled across his FC I was genuinely startled it was so eerie!

What is your main issue with the books you dislike?

8D Who has 2 hours? For everyone's sanity here be the highlights:

Women are only strong if they're masculine, reject traditionalism or refuse to be in love. This is bullshit. Stop it.

Stupid male characters in order to "empower" the female character. Stop it.

Homosexual love and romance being treated as something different then heterosexual romance. It's the same thing; love. Stop it.

Killing off parents. Stop it 8D

Making parents stupid and uninvolved. Stop it. 8D

Making siblings horrible or absent all the time. Stop it. 8D

Not drawing inspiration from non-Western mythos/lore. Expand your horizons.

Shoving in diversity just because. Stop it. Either write it in to start with or don't bother.

Making the villain dumb and predictable. I'm not scared by that.

Either sexualizing only the guys or only the girls. Stop that; equal fanservice if you're gonna do that nonsense.

Equating love to sex. They are not mutually exclusive. Stop it. 8D

Making daughters hate their fathers. Stop it.

Toning down scars, trauma and torture experienced by female characters despite it being applicable to the situation (such as being in a war, being a fighter). Stop it. 8D

Making authority evil. This is boring and untrue.

No chemistry between love interests. Better no romance then poor chemistry PLEASE. And yes, this applies to gay romance too. Being gay doesn't automatically make the romance interesting.

Being afraid of having religion in your work. PUT IT IN THERE YOU COWARDS!

Mary Sues/Gary Stus. Yes, they exist. And NO it's not when the character is OP. It's when the whole world bends to the will of the character to the point of ridiculousness. THAT is what a Mary Sue/Gary Stu is. OP characters just run a higher risk of falling in here if not handled well.

Not showing friendship between boys without it being homoerotic. Please don't put your fetish into the book and just show guys giving a shit about one another and caring.

Villainizing mothers. PLEASE STOP IT.

Promoting HeroxVillian pairings that are abusive/toxic. Stop. Hard. It's nasty.

What message do you hope to deliver with your WIP?

Lol, like the above we'd be here all day. So here are the highlights.

Do not be afraid to ask for help.

Love in unbelievably powerful in all it's forms

You parents try VERY hard to raise you. Cut them slack and forgive them for their mistakes.

Women can be strong no matter what path they choose.

Racism is horrible, degrading and demeaning. And no, it doesn't matter who's doing it to which race. It's not an excuse.

The line between a hero and a villain is paper-thin.

Reality is huge and strange and terrifying.

If it's not human, don't trying to put human logic onto it.

Learn to forgive. Your own hatred will kill you.

Don't give up on a dream, even when the world is telling you to stop.

We always want what we don't have. Learn to take comfort in your own skills and beauty.

It's okay not to know your path when you're young. As long as you keep looking around.

It's okay to like the pre-laid out path your family/parents recommend. Don't feel ashamed if it feels right.

Consensual polyamourous marriage should be legalized.

You both make your own fate and are bound by it. It's a messy look with no start or end.

Stories are powerful.

Love is at the core of all motivation.

The world is not what it seems.

Favorite song to write to, if any?

sljd my music taste is so all over it's stupid. I've literally listened to Baby Metal while writing romance/smut scenes. There is no logic here. The only consistent is Lo-Fi/Vaporwave/Future Funk playlists.

Do you have the ending plotted out? If so, can you remember when you came up with it?

Yes, thank gods. I think it happened in 2017/2018, near the end of my brainstorming.

What is your strongest point in your writing?

Worldbuilding, character relationships, horror and smut. One of these things is not like the other.

What do you do when writer’s block rears its ugly head?

Okay. I'mma be real here. I don't GET writer's block. I legit don't. But I DO get "lazy brain". I'm sit out 20-30k words in a couple weeks and then my brain will check tf out for a few months. Rinse and repeat. This is a bad way of writing things. don't do it.

Would you travel to research your wip?

So, as we all saw in WCI Sanji’s backstory (as originally given to us on the Baratie) turned out not to be the entire truth, but just the last stop on his Terrible Childhood Trauma Train.

As we also know, Oda is the Lord of the Gun of Chekhov.

As we also also know, Oda likes to make things rhyme. See: Alabasta and Dressrosa.

What I’m getting at is the last Giant Hole in a SH’s backstory:

(Not counting Zoro, because “where TF did Zoro come from pre-dojo” is a chasm that eats theories and spits out crack crossovers.)

Where are Nami and her sister Nojiko from originally?

The facts, as we are given, (via Bellemere’s explanation to Genzo, which he presumably filtered to be bby!Nami appropriate, which happens to give Oda a dual dose of Retcon wiggle room) are thus:

Bellemere was a troublemaker who left the village. At some point, she joined the marines, and Genzo described her as a “fine marine”. She was involved in a terrible battle, and only regained the will to live via two surviving children. She came back to her hometown in the middle of a terrible storm, on a very small boat, with a marine officer’s coat, severe injuries and two feverish young children she insisted be treated first.

She subsequently adopted them but did not file whatever paperwork was required with the town registry, which is strange from a woman who smacked her daughter for saying they weren’t a real family for not sharing blood. She clearly had -0 issues claiming them as her daughters, so what gives? Why didn’t she want them connected to her through official WG paperwork? Was it just her status as a (presumed dead?) marine who (probably) deserted?

Ahem. The point is, we’ve seen this basic story framework again. TWICE. For Very Major Characters: Robin and Law.

The basic story structure of

Horrific disaster destroys an area/country (at instigation of the WG).

Marine officer rescues main character as a child from (WG induced) disaster, abandoning their post/office/the Marines.

Becomes a guardian/parental figure for child.

Dies protecting child.

keeps happening. Saul/Robin. Cora/Law. Bellemere/Nami & Nojiko.

In two out of three cases, there was something about that (extremely gifted) child, something inherited, inherent to where they were from, that made them public enemies and government targets. Robin was from Ohara and had inherited their knowledge. Law was from Flevance and had inherited Amber Lead Disease. (Also the Will of D, but that’s a separate kettle of fish for now.)

Does Nami have something, like her intuitive sense for the weather and navigation, or her almost instinctive prodigal cartography abilities, that would have caused problems if the wrong people connected the right dots?

Bellemere told her she found her under a bridge. That’s a far cry from “ruins of a town that got leveled in heavy combat”. Is being told you were unwanted less traumatizing than being told your parents left you because they died? Why tell a kid they were abandoned instead of orphaned, in a world where random pirate rampages can redraw maps?

Was this just a kinder ambiguity, considering Nojiko apparently found her in the ruins before finding Bellemere and they genuinely did not know?

Or was she trying to keep a small child from blabbing about where they were truly from in range of the wrong ears? Did Genzo know what he was doing when he told her what Bellemere told him?

How much does Nojiko know/remember aaaaaaaaaaahhhhh.

Worth noting, all three examples are people who were prodigies (navigation, archaeology, surgery) who required a lot of blood sweat and tears for Luffy to ‘save’ from people who wanted to exploit their talents. Arlong, CP9, Doflamingo. Parallels everywhere!

There’s a lot of other things to be suspicious of in Bellemere’s story.

Where was this battle? Why was this battle fought, and against who? Doylist explanation, it was vague because Not Important when OP was supposed to run like 5 years, but the Watsonian at this point is... interesting.

What happened/went wrong that the hellraiser who shoved a gun in the mouth of a moderately famous former Sun Pirate, was two inches and a well-timed pair of kids who needed her from lying down to die among the corpses of her comrades?

Was that Marine officer jacket she arrives back at Cocoyashi in hers or did she grab it off a corpse or something for warmth?

How far did she travel to get back to Cocoyashi?

Why did Bellemere immediately recognize a Grand Line pirate like Arlong, even if she wasn’t aware he could bite though steel? East Blue-ers can’t reliably recognize Devil Fruits as things that really exist, much less know about fishmen.

The point: what really happened to Nami’s birthplace, why was Bellemere so cagey about it, and WHAT IS ODA UP TO????

misc morphicon stories

ok so i feel like i’ve talked FOREVER about all the wild shit that happened to us at morphicon (running into rangers at the car valet!! meeting chip lynn!! azim calling us his favorite ladies at the con!!) but i wanted to make a write up for all the stuff i haven’t talked about yet because i have to remember all this and i want you all to experience it too!! it was so fun oh my god if you haven’t been to morphicon... start making plans for 2020 guys it is legit INSANE best weekend of my entire LIFE

- ann marie crouch is AN ACTUAL PRINCESS SENT FROM HEAVEN we ran into her on our way back to the hotel one of the days and we were like omg it’s princess shayla we love you!! and she was so sweet and stopped and talked to us even though she was on her way out for a nap and she was in full shayla gear she looked so pretty! and we saw her on the way back too she had changed into casual clothes but still rocking it WE LOVE ONE MENTOR ONLY

- jessica rey is so funny and adorable omg we stopped by her booth to buy wild force pins (kat and abbey) bc the wf rangers come PREPARED w/ merch and nobody was there so we all just started talking to her and told her how we loved wild force and alyssa and abbey said she loved the ep where alyssa beat up the boys and she’s so cute and fun to talk to!! she told us about the shades of pink panel and i was like “is alyssa a pink or a white ranger” and she was like “lol i dont even know” also she had her handler take a staged candid of us talking to her because she loved us lmao. and then we were talking about white rangers and all of us were like “fuck tommy lives we stan alyssa only” and she laughed and immediately started telling us about what a dick jdf had been to fans the day before lmao (also for real...he’s a dick) and i was like YOU ARE THE SUPERIOR WHITE TIGER RANGER god shes so cool she loved us and didnt wanna stop talking but we had to move away cuz ppl were lining up for her behind us rip

- RICHARD AND ANGIE oh my god ok so i’d stopped and talked to angie on the first day and also the second day and i told her i’d come back later bc i wanted a photo w/ BOTH OF THEM and i did tell her how much i loved madison and vida like we are ROCCA SISTER STANS FIRST PEOPLE SECOND and shes so cute and she remembered us every time!! and then on the third day i finally got to talk to richard and he’s so sweet we talked about mystic force just at his booth for like ten minutes waiting for angie for the photo op, he asked us our fave episodes and i said dark wish and he actually remembered it so i think he might be the only actor at the con who watched his season. and we told him we loved the mystic force theme song AND HE STARTED SINGING IT. and someone had left him a green zeo figurine for...some reason and he told us “i dont even fucking know who that is” (but nicer lol he is very charming and polite) and we told him it was adam/johnny and he was like ohhhh lmao i love disney era actors not knowing SHIT about saban era. like he literally worked with johnny. i love him. AND THEN HE ASKED US ALL TO BE IN THE PHOTO and since kat paid for half of it we were like aight its a group thing and its the cutest photo i love disney era actors only

- i think i talked about meeting dwayne cameron already but god hes so sweet and i felt bad for him bc caitlin next to him had ppl she was talking to but he was all alone so me and abbey just went up and started talking to him and i told him i loved overdrive and i told him i recognized him as ethan’s bully and we talked about tyzonn and vella and just overdrive in general and hes so SWEET and he HUGGED ME SO TIGHT GOD i think he really enjoyed us like. actually loving overdrive and being able to talk about it. AND HE RAN INTO ABBEY IN CARS LAND AT DISNEY ON MONDAY AND GAVE HER ANOTHER HUG hes so cute (angie was also there with him I LOVE DISNEY ERA SOLIDARITY)

- met monica may and cerina vincent on saturday, not a lot to say bc i only talked to them a bit and took my photos but they are both so beautiful and elegant and classy and i told cerina i loved her in stuck in the middle :’) ranger ladies are so intimidatingly pretty god. also picked up this huge LEGIT spd poster and im gonna put it up in my room as soon as i can because oh my god its professional quality it looks so cool. we also talked to greg aronowitz bc kat wanted her poster signed and hes so cool we told him how much we appreciated everything he did for spd AND THAT WE WERE ON HIS SIDE ABOUT FEMALE RED FUCK DISNEY.

- god what else uhh we wandered around the toys section a lot on saturday/sunday bc we’d kinda. seen everyone. and there were a lot of panels on sunday so nobody was at the booths. i picked up those amazing rider/sentai prints from ceevee SUPER TALENTED SO WORTH IT. also got me a meteor storm figuart B) which i havent taken out of the box yet but i will

- HECTOR AT THE CAR VALET he literally announced he would be at morphicon the day before and then we saw him while waiting for our car and SCREAMED and he was so chill and cool and he came over and hugged us all hes so hot. AND THEN LATER WE RAN INTO SELWYN WARD AT THE CAR VALET and he also laughed when we squealed and came over and hugged us all and guys he smelled soooo nice i was like right up against him i could have died hes so handsome and perfect.

- we also ran into steve cardenas at the car valet like right when we were all leaving the hotel for the last time and we told him that we loved him and i said i was so excited that it was rocky coming back for the anniversary instead of fucking jason and abbey was like “justice for forever red!” and he was like hah i know right anyway every single actor in this franchise hates jdf lmao that was just the vibe of morphicon and it was valid

- fun fact we did not see jdf ONCE. not going to the con, not at the hotel, not ANYWHERE. just his crazy lines. he was like the douchebag cryptid. im glad tho he can stay that way.

- i talked about meeting andre on saturday night right??? hes so SWEET I LOVE HIM he was so happy when ben gave him his fanart of eddie and took a selfie w/ ben right then and there and also took a pic w/ me and abbey ugh i love him i told him he was so valid for being a power rangers youtuber and liking megaforce AND THAT HE’S THE BEST INTERVIEWER THEY’VE EVER HAD (i also told azim this, i’m very passionate about this subject, every other ranger interviewer sucks ASS)

- jason faunt at the elevators!! hes so sweet i told him how excited i was for the anniversary and he said yeah theres a lot more plot going on and told me to take a selfie bc they couldnt stop him here fhjggd i love that pic i love him AND THEN ALSO later we ran into NAKIA IN AN ELEVATOR AND SHES SO SWEET I SAID “WE LOVE YOU WE WATCHED ALL OF ZEO FOR YOU” and she was like aww thank you so much!! a literal goddess AND THEN LATER AS WE WERE CHECKING OUT karan walked by us to go to nakia and i was so excited i waved and said hi to her and she said “hi baby how are you” SHES SO WONDERFUL I LOVE MY MOTHERS

- we also went up to kelson’s booth later and told him how much we loved mick and all his roles!! and talked to him forever about all of them, told him we were kalish/disney era supremacists, told him HOW GOOD HE IS AT VOICE ACTING WE LOVE FLIT AND NORG IN THIS HOUSE he looked so happy :’) i feel like everyone just compliments him on boom which, no offense, but appreciate your voice actors guys. i told him we grew up on disney era and it was like new zealand only had twelve actors and he was five of them and he laughed and was like yeah. i also told him how we loved mick and brody’s father/son relationship and he was like yeah they ended up liking that a lot too which is why they sort of pushed brody’s real dad to the side so mick could shine more and i was like that’s LEGIT. i also told him the prism was brody’s mother and he agreed so that’s canon now. AND I TOLD HIM how fucking dark ninja steel went w/ his storyline literally being about slavery and human trafficking and he was like I KNOW RIGHT and we just talked about how dumb everyone is for being mean to ninja steel and chris showed up at this point too and we all laughed about it together

- ok and then tbh we just spent all of sunday loitering around the megaforce cast but it was worth it because they LOVE US oh my god we talked to them like all sunday about just. everything. azim’s gf jordan was there and she kept telling us to just stick around we talked to her a lot, we asked her about alex heartman and like where tf was he and she said he was working :( BUT AZIM AND ALEX ARE STILL CLOSE so victory. azim also told us a bunch of little stories like how he and the megaforce cast searched for a house to stay in together and ended up finding one at the base of a volcano and he and drew would race around the volcano in the mornings like the crazy people they are, we told him how much we loved andrew’s ACTING SKILLS and “do you see any tears” and he cracked up and said “they used to call me ‘freaky tiki man’ all the time because of that one line” and he told us about other fan encounters and things, we told him on saturday how we all met and became friends because we were the only ppl who loved and defended megaforce and he was SO TOUCHED HES SO SWEET GOD i would die for him. 

- cameron gave us (me and kat) all his money to buy him lunch from the food trucks and i guess just trusted that we loved megaforce so much we wouldn’t just run away with all his money????? and he was absolutely correct we got him teriyaki chicken with garlic noodles and he loved us. his handler also asked us to buy him food and gave us his CREDIT CARD dfhdgfjgdf like power rangers people are wild man. who just gives their credit card to random 20yo girls and just. trusts that they love this children’s show so much they won’t steal it??? i mean they were right and we didn’t but still. AND HE MADE ME AIRDROP one of my megaforce reaction pics to his phone because he loved it so much (it’s the one of jake and emma and orion looking super done, that i had ben redraw for me, so we showed them both pics and all three of them LOVED IT) and cameron even looked ben up on deviantart to see it fdgjkdfdg he loves usss. christina was telling us how they were talking about us at dinner and cameron told her that we were his favorite part of the con :’)) azim also mentioned that they talked about us at dinner because he said to kat “we were discussing that you look like that girl from 10 things i hate about you who was julia stiles’ best friend” LIKE IMAGINE. HAVING THE MEGAFORCE CAST. DISCUSS WHO YOU LOOK LIKE FDJGKDHFJGD they’re so cute ugh and azim and cameron hugged us all goodbye and john mark and christina said goodbye too and i just. love them. so much. 

- at one point cameron asked me and kat how old we were and she was like “twenties...as a group we are in our early twenties” and he was like “.... so old enough to know how a hangover feels right?” and we lost it dfgjfdkdgjh and i said “if i were an actor i would just be stoned the whole con” AND CAMERON JUST NODDED AGGRESSIVELY god the entire cast was definitely hungover and they’re so valid. except christina, we asked her and she said she only had a milkshake so maybe she was their designated driver. 

- andrew is so chill too (i mean i do think he is perpetually high but its fine) i think he just loves talking??? like he’s there for the babies (so many babies!! and they love troy so much!!! hes so adorable with them) and then he just wants to chill like we went up to him on sunday and he was like oh hey did you guys see this picture and he pulled out his phone and showed a pic of the megaforce cast doing a goofy zombie pose at their photo ops and he told us his backstory on each of their zombie poses like. who does this??? he’s so adorable.

- and ofc we stopped by christina again on sunday bc she’s THE FAVE and shes just so cuuute ugh and i told her i loved all asian rangers bc i am asian!! and she was like omg are you?? and i was like yeah i’m south asian and she was like omg so that’s all part of asia too OH I GET IT SO WE’RE BOTH ASIAN and i was like YES AND YOU’RE ALL MY RANGERS and she smiled at me it was like staring at the sun tbh. i love and would die for her.

- when we went to say goodbye to the megaforce cast cameron just looked at all of us standing around his booth and was like, so genuinely, “you guys are the best” and it still makes me cry thinking about it. AND AZIM’S FACE when we all said “megaforce’s defenders never surrender!” to him he had the sweetest smile god i really would take a bullet for the entire megaforce cast in a heartbeat. they are the sweetest angels & deserve the world. if any of you breathe a word wrong about jake holling in my general vicinity ever again i will fry your intestines and eat them for breakfast thank you GOODBYE.

BOI I’M GOING WITH THE SUPER DARK REACTION. HERE IS A STORY THAT I’VESPENT TOO MUCH TIME ON. IT IS HEAVILY INSPIRED BY SPEC OPS THE LINE!!!!

ALSO ALL CHARACTERS ARE MOST LIKELY OUT OF CHARACTER. SORRY.

But being serious there is mention of a child dying, so if that is not your thing please don’t read.

It was a simple job. Blow the building up and leave.

That was the thought that plagues Miss Pauling’s mind as she rides herscooter towards ground zero. In the distance all the young woman could see wasash and dust.

 But slowly approaching where Mann Co once stood it’s the sounds that wouldscar her.

 Walking through rubble and bodies all she could hear were the whimpersof survivors, the screams of the dying and yelling of those buried underconcrete.

 It sent a chill down her spine, to think her friends were caught in theexplosion.

 Going deeper into the impact zone all the woman could do was try to yellout, seeing was impossible, her glasses covered in dust.

 But what caught her attention was the movement in the distance. A childlike figure in the distance, slowly rocking back and forth.

 Again and again she yelled out towards the figure.Nothing.

A sigh escapes her lips as she pulls out a small pistol and approachesthe child.

 It’s only a few meters when she realizes it’s Scout.

The young man is sitting in filth, knees pressed tightly to his chest,one arm over his head and sucking his thumb.

But his eyes are something she will never forget, bloodshotand withtears pupils wide.

Miss Pauling can tell he hasn’t moved in ages, the ash that layers hisbody is perfectly level.

 She gets down to his level and starts to interrogate him.

 “Where are the others??”

 Silence.

 “What happened??”

 Silence

 “Why didn’t you leave??”

 Silence.

Scout just looks through her and with a shaky hand points towards theother members of the team, then goes on to slowly sob.

Miss Pauling moves on leaving Scout in a mess of blood and ash.

Finally she sees the rest of the mercs.

Pyro is laying on the ground looking at the falling ash, at timesputting their hand out to catch it.

Engineer is off to the side of the main group his small area he has madeup for himself is covered in vomit and blood.

For once Miss Pauling sees Soldier silent, the man holding his helmet tohis chest as if he was mourning a death.  

Heavy is speaking softly to Medic trying to convince the man to stop. Tostop performing CPR on the body of a little girl all men now know as OliviaMann.

Heavy is begging, telling Medic, that she is dead, that all her ribs arebroken. Even if they could revive her she would be brain dead.

Spy is overlooking the resuscitation, eyes focused solely on the younggirl helping Medic keep count.

Miss Pauling notes that Demoman and Sniper are nowhere to be seen. 

She breaks the silence.

“What happened??”

None of the men answer her question. All act as if they are stuck intheir own world. This isn’t good enough she needs answers now.

She grabs Soldier from his shoulders giving them a tight squeeze.

“Solider, please what happened here??”

For a split second the man says nothing, his eyes darting from the bodyof the girl to Pauling, in a few worlds explains.

“Followed the plan, discovered innocents inside and failed to disarm thebombs.”

And there it was. The reason the mercs where torn up, why they didn’tleave. As much as they put on the persona of harden mercenary,they would never let innocents die for a cause.

As much as Miss Pauling wanted mourn the loss. She had a job to do, getthese men out of here before being arrested for domestic terrorism.

“We have to leave now”

For thefirst time Miss Pauling felt panic rise in her chest.

“No”

It was Engineer who spoke up looking Miss Pauling dead in the eyes.

“We not going without Demo and Sniper”

“We don’t have time to discuss this; we can find their bodies later.”

Engineer looked away his face filled with disgust. Kicking the dirt torelease the built up angry.

“Would you do that to me??”

It was Scout, the man had dragged himself back to the others, toregroup. He had expected Miss Pauling to help search for Demo and Sniper.Instead she was going to leave them for dead.

He repeated himself. “Would you do that to me??”

 “Yes”

Miss Pauling didn’t even think, she would leave him, or any members ofthe team behind to save the others. Doesn’t mean she won’t feel bad after. Itall comes down to the needs of the many.

Scout was about to open his mouth again when he was cut off by Medicscreeching.

Heavy had dragged the man away from Olivia, deciding enough was enough.

Standing his ground Heavy took the abuse of the Doctor the yellingpunching and scratching.

Finally placing the Medic in a bear hug, as all the doctor could do wassob.

Finally Soldier moved again approached the young girl, placed her armsover her chest. Kneeling the man whispered to her.

All Miss Pauling could make out was an “I’m sorry” and maybe a prayer??

The touching words that Miss Pauling was trying to make out where fadedout by yelling in the distance. That was quickly approaching the group.

She pointed the pistol towards the voice, out of the ash steppedDemoman. Broken bottle of scrumpy in his hands, covered in ash and gunpowder.Demoman pushed pass Miss Pauling and made his way to Olivia. Slowly getting tohis knees he cried over her body.

The words “I’m sorry” and “my fault” where repeated.

It was his bombs that killed the young girl, his talent that got herkilled.

Spy approached the mumbling man.

“Demoman listen to me closely, have you seen Sniper??”

It was the mention of Sniper that Demoman froze on the spot.

“I’ve never seen him so angry”

“So he’s alive??”

“He said he’ll find us, after he finishes looking”

Miss Pauling steps in.

“What is he looking for Demo??”

“Papers” Demoman’s eyes go wide, “evidence”.

Miss Pauling’s voice cracks

“We have to leave now”

 Her wish goes ignored.

Spy looks at Miss Pauling, eyes burning into her skull.

 “Why did this building have to come down??”

 “I - I can’t tell you”

“Then tell me”

 Sniper appears from almost nowhere, holding burnt files. He continueshis speech, while handing out paperwork to his team.

 “This building came down to make the CEO’s death look like an accident.”

 “CEO??” Heavy speaks up.

 Sniper says nothing instead gestures to the little girl.

 Scout whispers softly to himself.

 “She was the CEO??”

 Spy fills in the blanks for the others.

 “Saxton Hale lost his company to Gray Mann, placing Olivia Mann incharge. The only way he would have gotten the business back is if he beat herin a boxing match… or by death”

All eyes are on Pauling, demanding answers, reasons for all themeaningless death.

“It was necessary” she explains.   

The men step in closer, surrounding her.

“With Grey Mann in charge they would have cut our partnership with TFIndustries, lots of money would have been lost. It’s what the Administratorwanted.”

The calm personality of the Engineer was gone, his voice on edge.

“We justtook out a tower, full of innocents. For money??”

Miss Pauling was trying to stay calm, keep things under control.

“Gray Co didn’t give us much of a choice; we repeatedly asked to come toan agreement.”

Heavy interjected.

“They said no, we respond by blowing up building. What happened to us?”

“Nothing happened to us” Miss Pauling snaps back “We are mercenaries”

That was the finally statement that pushed Sniper’s controlled angryover the edge.

“You turnedus into FUCKING KILLERS!”

 For allthe killing the mercs had done is their life, killing children was alwayssomething they always avoided. They were hired guns, not serial killers, notmad men.

The rageof the team was fuming; Pauling could feel the atmosphere tighten as theSnipers words echoed around them.

 “This isn’t my fault…”

The words barely more than a whisperslipped from her mouth. A phrase said more for her sake then the teams.

But the Medic had heard it.

With a screech the man had started toyell

“That’s not good enough. You fucked us.Fucked everybody. No… Everything… all this… it’s YOUR fault!”

If it wasn’t for Heavy holding theGerman back Pauling was sure that she would have been dead.

“What happened herewas out of my control.” She was arguing back, deep down she knew she doesn’tneed to justify any of this to the mercs.

“Was it?”

Spy asked.His voice calm.

“None of this would’vehappened if you’d told her no.”

That was the tippingpoint for the woman. All the anger, tension, hatred that was being thrown inher directional finally came out.

“You have no idea whatit’s like to work for her! She simply doesn’t take no as an answer, do youthink I wanted this!?”

A softquestion breaks the silence.

“Was itworth it?” Scout looks at Pauling in the eyes, he doesn’t move, just stares ashe wait for his answer.

ShamefullyPauling looks at the ground, then to the body of the young girl. She whimpersher answer out.

“Yes”

A sarcasticlaugh comes from Sniper.

“Collateral damage can be justified, if the gainoutweighs the cost. Isn’t that right Miss Pauling?”

A sighescapes her lips.

The silenceis her answer.

It can bejustified.

“I quit”

Heavy hadheard enough, Sniper was right. They had limits and morals they followed. Thisbroke every single one of them. Slowly Heavy walked away from the scene.Followed by Medic who simply waved a dismissive hand.

One by oneeach member of Team Fortress walked away.

Leavingonly Miss Pauling and Spy.

“It had tobe done Spy, you understand that??”

A pause.

“No matterwhat happens next, don’t be too hard on yourself.”

With hisfinally words, Spy left.  Leaving MissPauling alone.

This is the worst thing I have ever written. I just wanted it out of my WIP folder.
