Light heads to meet L at the pick-up point for their date and is met with a surprise.  Another more frustrating surprise was finding out that Sayu had followed him.  She briefly meets “Hideki Ryuga,” and has her suspicions all but confirmed as far as she knows.  With the delay over, they drive off to officially begin the date.

#its been making me think about the cartoon a lot lately for the sake of comparing and contrasting #so thats great #it was a very good cartoon #i do actually think that its stupid to complain about how its objectively bad when an adaption makes changes to the original #because that SHOULD be the point of an adaption. to try things in a new way and somehow improve on the story #but i think its funny how this show is constantly like ''we're gonna take a DIFFERENT route with this character'' #and then the DIFFERENT ROUTE leads to them driving the car off a cliff #we will not get to our destination this way bestie #out of all the changes theyve made to the original i think the most misguided and overall dogshit is how theyre portraying Azula #it annoying when people say ''theyre ACTUALLY writing her as a victim of her father's abuse this this'' #''shes ACTUALLY sympathetic this time'' #girl i hate it here #netflix show is a COWARD for showing Azula this way in season 1 #not that its not somewhat in character. if ozai started playing mindgames with her she probably would start spiraling like this #the problem is that we shouldnt be SEEING IT!! #avatar is regarded as Baby's First Media Analysis for a lot of people #and boy oh boy there was a lot of analytic meat to Azula's character #but the netflix version? this is a skeleton!! bones!!! #like obviously if you were watching the cartoon as an adult it would be immediately apparent #that this 14 yo girl acting not only like a grown woman but a calm calculated genocidal tyrant is very concerning #and it makes her sympathetic by defualt on the grounds of being a child #but a kid isnt going to realize that!! Azula is supposed to be polarizing!! #youre meant to buy into the narrative that everything is easy for her. that no effort troubles her mind #her unflappable nature is meant to unsettle you. intimidate you. she has no weaknesses shes unstoppable and shes pure evil #as a kid who is still learning how to think deeply about things thats how youre to perceive her #and then. AND THEN!! then the show pulls the rug out from under you and makes you question everything #Azula's gradually unraveling sanity in book 3 is jarring and unnatural and it forces you to challenge your own opinion of her #you become uncomfortably aware that shes a victim too. after all this time youve spent hating her #just like zuko. just like the fire family child that you had already come to realize was ''actually good'' #after that first watch its hard to decide how you feel about her. as a kid anyway. but its sad. its all so very sad

some Janka funfacts about music, communication and the memories her past 'owners' i've been marinating in my head:

her favourite songs belong to either one of two categories: they have a lot of simple phrases used in daily life, or a lot of specific, complex ones

she focuses on the lyrics (since she can use them for communication) rather than the melody; when she played a recording of Chopin once, she deemed it a waste of time and memory space. she only uses classical music when she wants to "put someone on hold" (doesn't want to speak to them)

she can use words from different songs to communicate, but frequent changes take a lot of effort - that's why she prefers lyrics with full phrases she can use. when in trusted enviroment, she would omit some less important words to save her energy, but she usually makes this effort around other people to seem more intelligent and worth keeping around

a young man who bought her, Ryszard Szewczyk, recorded the alphabet to make Janka communicate with him letter by letter. it was extremely ineffective, as not only Janka got exhausted after a simple sentence, it also turned out she didn't know how to spell

hearing and the ability to play music helped her compensate not only for her lack of speech, but also for not being able to see. since the horn amplifying the sound is her face and she can hear quite well, when someone is in front of her she can locate them because of the soundwaves bouncing off of them, in the mechanisms simillar to those of a bat

she remembers people whose houses she lived in by their voice, how rough they were when moving her about and the music they enjoyed. her favourite was Mirka, who had a deep, soft voice and would sometimes talk to her when she was feeling lonely. Janka remembers her fondly, as the first person to see her for more than just an object or a curiosity

-was a pageant kid who got too old to do pageants which resulted in her parents losing interest in her as a person, nowadays shes an aspiring popstar chasing fame.

-shes very mean and standoffish and comes off as spoiled but she just was more just a victim of neglectful parents. she left her parents house and now lives with oakey in dialtown and the two have a familial bond but its unclear if theyre actually related or not.

-shes been teased with the name egghead before and Will become violent if referred to as such. the ribbon she has on the pearl necklace was the first blue ribbon she ever won. oakey has a picture of him, kara, and his late wife at one of karas very first recitals in the locket he wears.

-you find her in the casino at the bar where she assumes youre a fan of her and after you say you dont know who she is she becomes offended and determined to make you recognize her, eventually leading to her agreeing to take you to the funfair

cora (she/they) + lesbian, will only date you with a typewriter head

-is a college dropout who spends most of their time in her apartment, they work at a gas station with stephan (the two are roommates as well), you meet her in the apartments where they mistake you for a pizza delivery person and fall apart after you flirt with her

-has a younger sibling who lives in a different state and occasionally comes to visit, hes trying to become a professional gamer and sometimes she joins in on his games and has appeared on his channel a number of times

-Really wants a girlfriend as theyre incredibly lonely . her guy friends help her practice flirting and shes actually very good at it but the second shes around a gal they find attractive she becomes a complete mess

-used to nervously play with the joystick on her head like one would play with their hair. she did this so much that it eventually just fell off and they lost it somewhere in the apartment

-a bit clumsy, their screen is Incredibly scuffed up but so far shes managed not to completely break it or anything. there have been some close calls though. steph has tried to help her but he is Also clumsy and unlike them has actually broken his head in several places
