Stream It Or Skip It: ‘The Visitor’ on Amazon Prime Video, Another Small Budget Blumhouse Production Aiming For Big Scares
The Visitor (now on Amazon Prime Video) is another in a long line of Blumhouse horror-thriller cheapies, and I don’t say that to throw shade – some of those cheapies ended up being quite good, Nocturne, The Vigil and most recently M3gan among them. This one stars Game of Thrones and Iron Fist star Finn Jones and Mortal Kombat veteran Jessica McNamee as a couple who move into an old house in a…

Kilgrave Yandere Alphabet
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A = Attachment (How do they show their love and affection? How intense would it get?)
He mainly uses gifts. He knows his words have power in ways that may not show you his genuine affection, but the gifts he leaves for you have no such influence so he feels those are a more genuine sign of his infatuation.
B = Blood (How messy are they willing to get when it comes to you?)
He’ll keep his own hands clean, but if things need to get messy, he’ll use his powers to have someone else do the dirty work.
C = Clingy (Do they require your attention at all times? How do they act when you ignore them?)
He makes it impossible for you to ignore him. Though even with his influence, he can tell when you’re less than willing to comply and might give you a bit of time away from him. But not too much.
D = Dependent (Are they codependent? Do they want you to rely solely on them for your care/protection?)
He definitely wants to be the only one you can rely or depend upon. If you go to anyone else he’ll be extremely upset.
E = Excess (Would they spoil or pamper you? To what extent?)
He’d spoil you with anything you wanted. It doesn’t matter at all how ridiculous or expensive. If you want it, he’ll use his powers to get it for you.
F = Fatal (Would they kill you? Kill for you?)
Killing you would be his absolute last resort…well unless he got bored of you, then you might need to be disposed of to keep his whereabouts a secret from Jessica Jones and other such heroes.
G = Give Up (What are they willing to sacrifice for you?)
The way Kilgrave sees it, he won’t have to sacrifice anything, and that works out well for him. Though if you were particularly insistent on something he might make an effort to do away with it. Or just make you think he had.
H = Harsh (How do they take to you mouthing off to them or saying something they don’t want to hear?)
He shuts you up immediately. He won’t tolerate you mouthing off to him. It’s likely he’d stop you before you can even finish saying something he doesn’t want to hear.
I = Inseparable (What are they like when you’re not with them? Do they check in on you constantly, or feel lost without you?)
He always has tabs on you one way or another. Can’t have you wandering too far and getting the full scope of your free will back. That would only make more work for him when he saw you next.
J = Jilted (How do they act when met with rejection from you?)
Well with Kilgrave, there’s no such possibility. Whether you really want to or not, you won’t reject him. You can’t. He won’t allow it.
K = Kidnap (Would they ever abduct you just to have you to themselves for a while?)
Of course he would. If by chance you’d been avoiding him, he’s more than willing to steal you away to get you back under his control.
L = Lines (Do they cross lines with you? What ones? Is it something they know they’re doing?)
He can cross any line he wants and you haven’t a single say in it at all. He knows what he’s doing, but he doesn’t care how many lines he may cross with you.
M = Manipulation (Would they manipulate you? How? And would you realize that’s what was happening?)
His whole thing is manipulating you. You don’t really realize it’s happening until you’ve had some time and space from him though.
N = Naive (Do they like you pliant or do they prefer you to challenge them?)
Pliant. The less trouble you give him the better. Of course, he does like to play games, so he’ll let you think you can defy him.
O = Ownership (Do they feel possessive of you? How do they act when you’re around others?)
He’s very possessive of you. He will keep you by his side when others are present and will easily snap at anyone who even looks at you for a second to long.
P = Petulant (Are they moody? Easy to anger? Or are they patient and forgiving around you?)
He can be easy to anger, but you’re usually not the cause of it and his anger isn’t often directed towards you either, but rather others who make futile attempts to come between you.
Q = Quit (Would they quit any of their behaviors for you if you asked?)
More than likely not. If you’re lucky he’ll make some sort of effort, but will most likely continue and just hide it from you and lie to you about it.
R = Rules (Would they have rules for you? Brainwash you? Teach you the right way to be theirs?)
He doesn’t have to teach you how to be his. You do what he says when he says when you’re with him. That’s just how it works.
S = Stalker (Would they stalk you? How far would it go?)
He’d stalk you for sure. He had to make sure you were worth his time and effort. He’d follow you wherever you go to learn your routines.
T = Target (What do they wish to do to you? How twisted are their ideals?)
He just wants you. Simple as that. He’ll let his whims decide what he wants from you and when.
U = Utopia (How much effort do they put into making you happy?)
He’d like you to be happy with him, but he can manipulate that too, so as long as you’re acting happy then that’s good enough for him.
V = Violence (Would they ever be violent with you?)
Rough, sure, but never anything outright violent. He just wants you controlled, not hurt.
W = Will (Would they ever do anything against your will?)
Yep, without a doubt. He has say in what you do, but it is not a two way street.
X = Xoanon (Would they revere or worship you? To what length would they go to win you over?)
He doesn’t have to try and win you over. One word and you could be his. He doesn’t revere or worship you, but would love having you worship him.
Y = Yowl (Do they ever make you cry? Do they enjoy your tears?)
Tears are nothing but an annoyance to him. He’ll put a stop to any tears as soon as they start. He hates them.
Z = Zenith (Would they ever break you just so you’d stay with them?)
Oh yes, easily.
For anon

In honor of Juneteenth, we are featuring four books in our collection by queer Black and African authors. Descriptions of the books are below the read more.
Meanwhile: Graphic Short Stories about Everyday Queer Life in Southern and East Africa (2019) by the Qintu Collab
The Browne Popular Culture Library (BPCL), founded in 1969, is the most comprehensive archive of its kind in the United States.  Our focus and mission is to acquire and preserve research materials on American Popular Culture (post 1876) for curricular and research use. Visit our website at https://www.bgsu.edu/library/pcl.html.
Lez Talk
A necessary and relevant addition to the Black LGBTQ literary canon, which oftentimes over looks Black lesbian Writing, Lez Talk is a collection of short stories that embraces the fullness of Black lesbian experiences. The contributors operate under the assumption that "lesbian" is not a dirty word, and have written stories that amplify the diversity of Black lesbian lives. At once provocative, emotional, adventurous, and celebratory, Lez Talk crosses a range of fictional genres, including romance, speculative, and humor. The writers explore new subjects and aspects of their experiences, and affirm their gifts as writers and lesbian women.
Black Love Matters
An incisive, intersectional essay anthology that celebrates and examines romance and romantic media through the lens of Black readers, writers, and cultural commentators, edited by Book Riot columnist and librarian Jessica Pryde. Romantic love has been one of the most essential elements of storytelling for centuries. But for Black people in the United States and across the diaspora, it hasn't often been easy to find Black romance joyfully showcased in entertainment media. In this collection, revered authors and sparkling newcomers, librarians and academicians, and avid readers and reviewers consider the mirrors and windows into Black love as it is depicted in the novels, television shows, and films that have shaped their own stories. Whether personal reflection or cultural commentary, these essays delve into Black love now and in the past, including topics from the history of Black romance to social justice and the Black community to the meaning of desire and desirability. Exploring the multifaceted ways love is seen--and the ways it isn't--this diverse array of Black voices collectively shines a light on the power of crafting happy endings for Black lovers. Jessica Pryde is joined by Carole V. Bell, Sarah Hannah Gomez, Jasmine Guillory, Da'Shaun Harrison, Margo Hendricks, Adriana Herrera, Piper Huguley, Kosoko Jackson, Nicole M. Jackson, Beverly Jenkins, Christina C. Jones, Julie Moody-Freeman, and Allie Parker in this collection.
The Black Imagination
This critical collection covers a broad spectrum of works, both literary and cinematic, and issues from writers, directors, and artists who claim the science fiction, speculative fiction, and Afro-futurist genres. The anthology extends the discursive boundaries of science fiction by examining iconic writers like Octavia Butler, Walter Mosley, and Nalo Hopkinson through the lens of ecofeminist veganism, post-9/11 racial geopolitics, and the effect of the computer database on human voice and agency. Contributors expand what the field characterizes as speculative fiction by examining for the first time the vampire tropes present in Audre Lorde’s poetry, and by tracing her influence on the horror fiction of Jewelle Gomez. The collection moves beyond exploration of literary fiction to study the Afro-futurist representations of Blacks in comic books, in the Star Trek franchise, in African films, and in blockbuster films like Independence Day, I Robot, and I Am Legend.
Meanwhile
The lived realities of young queer people in African contexts are not well documented. On the one hand, homophobic political discourse tends to portray queer people as 'deviant' and 'unAfrican', and on the other, public health research and advocacy often portrays them as victims of violence and HIV. Of course, young queer lives are far more diverse, rich and complex. For this reason, the Qintu Collab was formed to allow young queer people from a few African countries to come together, share experiences and create context-specific, queer-positive media that documents relatable stories about and for queer African youth. We see this as a necessary step in developing a complex archive of queer African life, whilst also personalising queer experiences and challenging prejudicial stereotypes. The Collab is made up of eighteen queer youth from Botswana, Kenya and Zimbabwe, two academics, three artists and a journalist. We first worked in small groups in each country through a range of creative participatory methods that focused on personal reflection and story-telling. Young people created personal timelines, and made visual maps of their bodies, relationships, and spaces. We then had group discussions about themes that emerged to help decide what to include in the comic works. At the end of 2018, we all came together in Nairobi, Kenya, for a week to collaborate on this comic book, and a set of podcasts on similar topics. We worked through various ways of telling stories, and developed significant themes, including family, religion and spirituality, social and online queer spaces, sex, and romantic relationships. Each young person created a script and laid out the scenes for a comic that told a short story from their lives. They then worked one-on-one with an artist to finesse those ideas into a workable comic, and the artists thereafter developed each story through multiple rounds of feedback from the story's creator and the rest of the group

20 Questions for fic Writers!
Thank you to @spotsandsocks for the tag and I see @pirrusstuff just got me while I finishing up with this. :)
How many works do you have on AO3?
Over 100
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
1,362,622 on Ao3
Another million on ff.net that not on Ao3.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
9-1-1/Buddie at the moment.
But in the past: ER, CSI, H50, SGA, Daredevil Huh. I see a pattern :-P
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Most are from older fandom:
Most kudos in 9-1-1/buddie : Alone In The Dark With You 888
Beneath the Trident 2k+ H50/McDanno
Reluctant Allies (Or the Time Frank Had to Bring Home the Devil) 1.1k Daredevil
Shadowboxing 1.1k Captain America & Daredevil
Navigating Domesticity 1k H50/McDanno
The Space Between Us 1k H50/McDanno
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Most of the time. There have been sporadic tines when I haven't but I try to be consistent. It can be a little harder to respond to comments on older fic, but I read and appreciate every one .
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Hmm. All my fc have happy endings. I feel like that's the big payoff. There are a few that end on happy notes after a ton of angst.
The Hoku was a very dark post apocalyptic fic. H50/McDanno
bro·ken Buddie/ 9-1-1 ends on healing, happy note, but it was a pretty big angst fest.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I have no idea :-P
8. Do you get hate on fics?
I used to get some pretty serious unwarranted critique in other fandoms, but not the current one.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I do. Not a ton, but if the story calls for it, I follow the Muse.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
The Killing Game
A Daredevil, The Punisher, Jessica Jones crossover with The Predator.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
A few times.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Russian and Chinese.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
In the SGA fandom I had a wonderful co-writer everybetty on some pretty huge epics.
14. What’s your all time favorite ship?
I really do love Buddie. Followed by McDanno.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I don’t have any WIPs except the current one. I have an idea that I have outlined and have talked about in the past. My epic Sci-Fi of doom. But the Mafia AU which took me a long time to write and I don't have the motivation to write anything that will take me months again.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Immersing the reader in the scene. Writing detail in a concise matter. Research. Action scenes. Gritter topics that don’t get glossed over.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
I have a mild form of dyslexia which means I write weird sentence structure and a ton of homophones that my amazing beta fixes :)
It also takes me a long time to write, but I'm also in my 40's and I'm don't have a lot of writing time. Which is also the reason it takes me a while to read longer stories.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
Very, very sparingly and if only, it makes an impact in the scene.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
X-files
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
We Found Each Other (Over There)
my 9-1-1/ Buddie epic WWII AU. I feel like it's my best work.
