A comprehensive and detailed timeline about the ancient past of totk

Okay I was going to append this to someone else's theory post but it got out of hand size wise and that's a tad rude so I'm making my own.

(Part 1) (long post)

Totk ancient history, let's go!

So! What do we know about the botw timeline, first?

Ancient sheikah! They've existed since the beginning of hyrule, but these lot were scifi. They supposedly took inspiration partly from the zonai before they (the zonai) died out. They built all the tech to fight calamity ganon. (and presumably improve their quality of life, but we don't see much of that)

Calamity ganon. First appearance 10k years ago. Second appearance in botw (technically 100 years ago? Not important, he didn't leave and come back). Zelda (or rhoam or impa) say it gave up its mortal from to be a giant goo pig. Both attacks were foreseen by sheikah seers.

Rito and zora existing together! This is very important! Rito originally evolved from zora in wind waker, so they've never existed together.

Them existing together, along with basically everything else about botw lol, proves we're working with a merged timeline. Gang's all here!

A divine beast (probably) took that chunk out of hebra peak. Lol. Lmao, even. Most likely to be ruta or medoh.

The duelling peaks are split in their artwork (the observatory and sword trial chamber). Rumour (npc gossip) has it a dragon flew through and split them in two.

The sheikah knew about the master sword. Somehow installed... Whatever the sword trials are. Also the master cycle, which, heck yeah, wish totk had that, hand built stuff isn't a fraction as good or cheap.

The sheikah built the shrine of resurrection. Even in botw, it's said it was built over a spring of healing water.

Now, let's briefly cover what we learned in totk.

The zonai! Of course! We learn a lot from the tear flashbacks. They descended from the sky to earth to 'found hyrule' (lmao) with their secret stones that boost powers. Already a dying race at that point. Rauru and mineru are the only ones we ever see. They're guarded and served solely by hylians.

Sonia, a priestess (of at least the triforce if not hylia), blood of hylia. She was one of the people first greeting the zonai, which tells us they descended in that generation.

The rito and zora are already there! The timelines are already merged! We see the ghost of what the sheikah took inspo from with the zonai animal masks.

A gerudo sage! Despite the gerudo still being led by ganondorf... That must have been fun. Likely the ruler of the gerudo after ganon is defeated, which must have been a Trial and a Half in THAT political landscape.

The duelling peaks are... intact. This lends a lot of credence to the dragon theory!

There are no floating islands in zeldas time. This implies either the cloud barrier is intact and zonai still lived up there for a while, or the whole zonai race went to earth and brought their islands with them.

The great plateau walls are already there. Hylian design.

The hero's aspect. A half hylian, half zonai hero. This confirms that the hero can be reborn into bodies that aren't purely hylian (or, well.... We'll get back to that). It also could not be more clear that it's the hero from the calamity tapestry! Even has a pointy face where zelda has flat. Booty shorts/skirt. The red hair is important.

Ganon has been reborn, zelda arrived via time travel, but there's no hero? Rather, the only one to defeat him named link is our totk boy 10k years later.

The zonai temple of time is on the plateau. Where the landmass under it comes from I DO not know.

The zonai temple of time is currently not really very close to the plateau. This implies islands can drift. This isn't relevant but is cool.

We get no explanation for the zonai ruins in the jungle. Which is a crying shame. Rauru never ever goes to the jungle. The best we get is the dragons head quest. Or the labyrinths! Well... I'll get back to that as well.

The depths, the zonai mines, zonaite. Despite being from the clouds, the zonai get their powerful metal, the one named after them, the stuff they make everything out of, from the deepest, darkest depths of hyrule (literally lol). The only other place zonaite can be found is some caves in the sky.

The distinctive swirl of zonai magic above shrines perfectly matches rauru's final spell. The shrines were constructed by/for rauru and Sonia, said to help 'seal the darkness and prevent it encroaching on hyrule'. Underneath each one is an inactive light root, which, when activated, becomes surrounded by the only hylian flora in the depths. Hilariously, you can pick up the actual shrines in pebble form and cart them around.

Unfortunately, one can only install a single read more, so I'm going to make it a new post.

Long ago in a place called Arendelle there lived two parents and their two beautiful daughters named Elsa and Anna. Elsa was born with magical powers that linked to ice and snow while Anna had none. The parents did not worry..yet…on one night while the sisters were playing with Elsa’s powers it got a little out of hand. “ANNA WAIT!” As soon as Elsa said that she accidentally hit Anna making her sister fall to the ground in pain. Their parents heard the commotion making them worried so they decided to check it out. “I-I didn’t mean to hurt her!” Elsa cried as she held her unconscious sister’s body, making her mother gasp while her father took Anna from her, both of them knowing who they needed to see…the rock people. “Please help our daughter!” Anna’s father begged while one of the rock people gently took her away from her mother, softly putting her on a flat rock, letting the powerful one take a look at her.

Elsa was waiting for her family until she looked u-, “I’m sorry to interrupt but you have a soothing voice” T..thank you I suppose but may I go back to reading? “Of course” Ahem..Elsa was waiting for her family until she looked up to the sky and prayed for her sister's safety, she truly never wished to hurt her little sister all she wanted to do was play with her but she was too fast for her to catch her! She knew that she’ll wear gloves and spend her time in her room alone because her parents will worry…so maybe she can just spend this time alone looking at the sky with a little softness and peacefulness for now even if she knows the outcome will happen.

And they lived happily ever after..even if they have chaos following them. “Um mister? Or ma’am..can we talk more please? I understand if not” Ah Elsa…I suppose so since I did finish the book. “Thank you sir, what is your name?” My name? Well…it seems I do not have one other than the Narrator. “How about I name you?” That would be very sweet of you. “Hm…how about Magnus? If you don’t like that then how about Madhu?” Hm…Madhu sounds good. “Madhu it is! Suits you a lot!” Please, you don’t know anything about me other than I am the Narrator. “Yet you seem like a good guy! So I’ll stick it out till the end!” Such a stubborn girl you are.

“Isn’t that the best part of me?” I suppose so since your stubbornness did make you a great queen to your kingdom and mentor to your little sister, you do what’s best for those around you…but I was hoping you’d kick Hans. “It was tempting but Anna wanted it” Makes sense, he played with her heart and tried to kill her last living blood family..never understood why he didn’t wait. I do not mean to be rude but logically, he could’ve waited until he and Anna married to then reveal his plan. “True..but the snow curse” Wouldn’t work, I know I know but still!

reasons why I need a remake of this series

15 years on and I'm still thinking of how Arthur was absolutely robbed of character development. I know the slogan of the show was "two sides of the same coin" but frankly......that's stupid.

Arthur should've shown a somewhat political streak, somewhat revolutionary for the times, he was supposed to transform Camelot into a medieval paradise, but all we got was him prancing around medieval backdrops bickering with Merlin. How many times was he faced with actual political problems that didn't center around his sister slowly descending into madness? when was he a good king at all? he is not even all that skilled in combat since Merlin essentially saved his butt every time

And Merlin ugh, he is supposed to grow into the inspiration behind the "old wise man" literary archetype, but instead, he is just a sad lonely boy obsessed over a guy he met. Wisdom comes from going through multiple experiences and learning from them, Merlin always relives the same experience over and over again and learns nothing

I get that their faiths are intertwined but that doesn't mean there wasn't enough room for them to develop independently

Alright, so: I want to explain a little more about this connection between the Twilight fandom, Fifty Shades of Grey, and seemingly, the self-publishing industry as a whole. It's a lot, so I'm going to have to chip away at it a bit at a time, and I think the best place to start is by describing the scene in late 2000s Twilight fandom.

In 2009, Twilight was one of the biggest fandoms in the world, although it was nearly invisible to outsiders because it

Was about a straight couple, while most other fandoms were predominantly gay, and

Was conducted almost entirely on fanfiction.net among a group of people who had little other background in fandom. (x)

That meant for many Twilight fans, Twilight was fandom. It was all they knew, and many had no path out. That also made it a corked champagne bottle with the pressure building.

Because of these community dynamics and the declining quality of the Twilight books themselves, Twilight fanfiction evolved to be mostly AUs so alternate they were more-or-less original romance novels that used Bella and Edward as broad character templates. (x)

Seriously, Twilight fandom got really crazy big for a few years there. It was not totally uncommon to get multi-million clicks on a semi-popular story. It's weird looking back on it and calling it "Twilight fandom" because it was really more like "Romance Novel fandom". For real, for a period there, calling a Twilight fanfic author a 'Twilight fan' would be the ultimate insult. But they never stopped writing about Edward and Bella! It's so weird. (x)

If you were in 2000s era fandom, you're probably aware of the phenomenon of Big Name Fans and the various social-climbing dynamics that happened around them. The Twilight fandom took this social power game another level:

This wasn't even just an author thing. There were Big Name Authors (BNAs) but there were also Big Name Readers. These were basically like... full-time rabid fans of a BNA. They devoted so much of their time to helping out the BNAs, reviewing their chapters, making them fanart, promoting their fics, kissing their asses with cringe-worthy intensity, you name it. Which is why you saw what looked like BNAs having 'employees', such as Moi, tby789's Director of Marketing. (x)

It became apparent that these power games weren't just for fandom clout. The fandom was proving that that social power could be translated into real-world dollars. You see, the Twilight fandom used to organize charity auctions where big name authors would auction off custom fanfiction, and the money generated was substantial:

Mostly authors would auction off stories. So if you donated in my name, I'd write you 10,000 words of porn in my Tattward universe, or something new, etc. That's how it worked. The 2009 auction raised $80,000. The 2010 auction raised $140,000. The 2011 auction raised $20,00. [NOTE: this is likely a typo] (x)

A lot of these dynamics were not unique to the Twilight fandom, but it was the combination that created a perfect storm of opportunism. This would end up changing not just fandom dynamics but the publishing industry as a whole.

#i’m part of the demographic where i was a kid when adventure time started and now watching fionna and cake as an adult makes me emotional #because did they keep us in mind when writing fionna and her attitude towards life #the dissatisfaction #the hoping for something more #something more magical than this dreary life filled with working to live and living to work #it’s so reflective of how life feels for me and perhaps many of us #and also Simon’s episode was so sad but so well thought out #exploring his feelings after the events of the adventure time finale is something I’m glad we get to see #there were already so many layers to his character in AT but now it feels like we get to dive deeper #I also felt emotional hearing Rebecca Sugar singing and writing a song that encapsulates his feelings so well #😭 it’s been awhile seeing her work exist alongside these characters #and all of these emotions get stronger because I remember AT being the one to inspire me to be a storyboard artist #when I was younger I used to follow many of the board artists here in tumblr and would get so inspired by them #to create simple but powerful boards that can capture the feelings of characters so well #Rebecca Sugar’s songs for the AT characters inspired me so much too #I’m sorry this is long I’m just feeling so many things experiencing all of this again as an adult #my art #fanart #adventure time #fionna and cake #fionna the human #cake the cat #simon petrikov
