pictured left to right: General George Patton USA. General Omar Bradley USA. General Bernard L. Montgomery UK. Having watched a documentary about these WW2 allies, It is surprising to see the three of them share a laugh. I suppose that even if there was tension between them at times, there was still mutual respect. This picture is a good example of how General Bradley often had to play referee between Patton and Montgomery. It's not my usual content, but I find it interesting to learn what made these people tick.

On this day, 2 March 1955, in Montgomery, Alabama, Claudette Colvin, a 15-year-old Black schoolgirl, refused to give up her seat on a bus that she had been ordered to vacate for a white passenger. She was arrested and charged with multiple offences for violating the city’s segregation laws (content note: sexual violence). Leaders of the Black community considered attempting to make her case a cause célèbre and a test case for the civil rights movement, but, according to some local activists, Claudette’s dark skin and working class background caused concern. One, Gwen Patton, told Guardian journalist Gary Younge, “It was partly because of her colour and because she was from the working poor. . . . It was a case of ‘bourgey’ Blacks looking down on the working class Blacks.” After Colvin became pregnant as a result of a statutory rape, the leadership decided against pursuing her case. When Rosa Parks – educated, married, and lighter-skinned – was arrested later that year, civil rights leaders had their standard-bearer. Patton is blind af
This man is so blind. His lenses are so thick. Cassie has a cat, right? Nice, good, kinda snooty kittycat named Miss Sprinkles Montgomery the third. Missie or Sprink for short. Well sometimes, she manages to escape from their screened in patio. And Patton will open the door for her to let her back in while calling her a naughty lil thing. One day, he lost his glasses. And imagine Janus' surprise when he comes home and discovers a opossum in their home, with bows in its fur, being pet by his normally easily spooked husband.
"... dear? I wasn't aware we had a guest." "What do you mean?" ".... Patton, where are your glasses?" Because the last thing Janus wants is for his husband to freak out, and to in turn scare this wild animal.
He does, eventually, manage to get the opossum outside. And find his glasses. Patton is so embarrassed, but then-"Cassie! You let me bring in a opossum? Why didn'tyoutellme??" Because this little miss had been there the entire time, oh so chipper and all. "Because he's so cute! And he's got lil hands! And-and he eats ticks!!" "...." and then Janus "Well, she's not wrong."
Mr. "Lost his glasses and accidentally confused one of the others for Janus and when he started heavily flirting with them they just short circuited until Janus came along to collect him all 'I think that was meant for me, thank you'"
Tried contacts a few times, Janus legit did not recognize him for a good few seconds.
Accidentally mixed his glasses up with Logan's, only to hear him say "Good Heavens, Patton! How do you see anything?" "With my eyes, Logan." ".... obviously Not!"

Outside of George C. Scott's iconic opening speech, is Patton really a good movie?
Mega spoilers.
“PATTON” won 8 Academy Awards, which is a pretty good haul. Patton’s children both wept watching the film. Patton’s daughter Ruth Ellen said the way that Scott did her father’s “mirthless grin” was startlingly on target.
The mirthless grin directed at Montgomery
Best actor
“Patton” does have a good three act set up and it does create some dramatic tension as it goes along. Patton arrives in Tunisia and everything is a shambles. They did a lot of set decoration with dead GI’s and one of the aides says that the losses were “40 tanks and 25 self-propelled guns, belt buckles, GI socks, blah blah and “one thousand eight hundred men,” or whatever.
In reality the U.S. Army had some initial failure due to faulty deployments ordered by British general Anderson. German attacks were soon stymied and they didn’t get into any of the giant supply dumps that had been set up. Then straight into the scene where the German planes strafe Patton’s meeting with AVM Coningham.
Here on the right. Coninghmam was an excellent officer and did a great job with the Desert Air Force.
What really happened was that Coningham sent an message belittling the American troops and Patton was very upset. Ike sent Gen. Spaatz and AM Tedder to Patton’s HQ to try and smooth things over. Patton, Spaatz, Tedder, Bradley and others were in a meeting when several FW-190s flew down the street dropping bombs and strafing. “How the devil did you manage to stage that?” either Spaatz or Tedder said. Patton did say that he he would “give those Nazi sumbitchs a medal if he could.”
Some major Patton biographies do not mention it, but “An Army At Dawn” by Rick Atkinson does note that Patton did run outside and fired at the German planes.
The movie made some hay with this by having the strafing attack happen when Coningham was onsite the next day. General Buford seems to have been fictional.

CHARACTER INTRO:
NAME: Calliope "Callie" Victoria Montgomery
AGE: 36
GENDER/PRONOUNS: Female. She/her.
SEXUALITY/STATUS: Heterosexual. | Single.
OCCUPATION: District Attorney
BIRTHDAY: December 28th, 1987
HOMETOWN: Los Angeles, California.
NEIGHBORHOOD: Riverfoak Farms
FACECLAIM: Candice Patton
BACKGROUND:
TW: KIDNAPPING, DEATH, PREGNANCY.
Born via surrogate, along with her twin brother, Samuel.
Both parents are very successful. Her mother a model, and figurehead. Her father award wining surgeon.
Despite growing up in LA, Covintgon was like a second home to the twins, as that was where their grandparents lived.
Her mother wanted a mini-me for a daughter, one who would love the glitz and glam of Hollywood, instead, she got a girl who wanted to be be successful more like her father.
Only Callie hadn't realized that until a traumatic turn of events took place when she was 15. After a party with her best friend, Harper, they decided to walk home; but they would both be kidnapped.
They were missing for 4 days. Harper would end up killed, while Callie was rescued.
This was extremely traumatic for the young girl, yet, she seemed to bounce back a little too fast. Some would say she never truly dealt with that trauma. It would get worst when the man who kidnapped them would end up free, due to a mistrial.
This is the turning point in which Callie knew she wanted to go into law. Finishing high school, she'd go on to college and law school, topping her classes.
After law school, Callie would move to Covington for good, to be near her brother and his wife.
At 33, she would find herself landing the position of DA. For years she was all work, and very little play. So, it was a surprise that within the same year as her promotion, she'd find that she was pregnant.
in 2019, she gave birth to her daughter, who she named Harper, after her late friend, and Rose after her grandmother.
In 2021, she would adopt a mainecoone cat that she named Stormy.
Despite being married to her work, and a single mother, she manages to keep up both ends rather well. Of course with help of her brother, and his wife, and occasionally her parents. Which she is extremely grateful for.
WANTED CONNECTIONS:
FRIENDS/FRIENDLY RELATIONSHIP: Despite being a work horse, she is still a rather cool person to hang around. With becoming a mom, on top of her job, it did shorten her free time even more. But her brother does try to get her to go out and have some kind of social life. Or at least, just give her a break. This could be coffee friends, work out friends, even mom friends.
ENEMIES/I DON’T REALLY LIKE YOU: Not everyone likes everyone.
EXES/FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS/HOOK UPS (M/NB): Despite really not having time for relationships, she somehow manages to have a long list of ex-lovers. Very few serious. Most hook ups, as she has needs, and she likes them met. She does have a handful of exes that was serious, and it could've ended badly on either side to be honest. Or well. She definitely dated more freely in college.
BABY DADDY: To be honest, I don't assume she actually knows who her daughter's dad is. In my head, she had slept with two different men around the time she got pregnant. Instead of really figuring out who it was, she kinda just told them both that the other one was the dad. And they went with it. She always knew she wanted to be a mom, and she always figured she'd do it on her own. This way just saved her a trip to the bank. (Even tho deep down, she would love nothing more then the whole fairy tale love story. But she is a realistic, and her career comes before a relationship.)
COWORKERS: Anyone who works in law, cops, lawyers, etc, would very likely know of Callie Montgomery. Rather it's friendly or not, is up for debate.
CLIENTS: Anyone who's been in legal trouble.
TRULY ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING, FOR REAL. I JUST WANNA LOVE ON Y’ALL AND BE LOVED. OK THANK YOU

Mincemeat swallowed rod, line and sinker.
July 9th-10th 1943 - Allied Invasion of Sicily (Operation Husky)
“Amphibious power and air support allowed the Allies to seize the initiative and helped ensure a wide-ranging attack on Sicily, the largest island in the Mediterranean. Husky, launched before dawn on 10 july, initially involved 180,000 Allied troops, alongside 750 warships, 2,500 transport ships and 400 landing craft. Only Operation Overlord in Normandy in 1944 was a larger amphibious action in Europe. The landings were more sophisticated than those mounted in Operation Torch in northwest Africa in November 1942. Operation Husky used appropriate ship-to-shore techniques, notably amphibious pontoon causeways and trained beach parties. The British landed in southeast Sicily and the Americans farther west between Cape Scaramia and Licata.
Once landed, the Allies faced problems from the defenders of the island. General Alfredo Guzzoni commanded the Axis forces’ defence on Sicily. Including navy and airforce personnel, Guzzoni had 315,000 Italians and 40,000 Germans. His troops were primarily composed of Coastal Divisions-five of the nine - and he had only about 148 tanks, many of which were obsolete. After considering options, he concentrated his force in the southeastern sector, which was the Allied territorial objective. The SIM - Italian Military Intelligence Service - was sure the Allies were going to land in Sicily, after precise information had been received from its agents in Lisbon, while the Germans believed the Allies would land in Sardinia or Greece. Kesselring, the German commander, disregarded the Italian intelligence reports and deployed the German tanks of 14th Panzer Corps in central and western Sicily. On 7 July, Guzzoni was warned that a landing was expected within two or three days, but despite the information from Lisbon and the Allied seizure of the offshore island of Pantellaria on 11 June after heavy bombing, Kesselring kept his troops in the interior and did not defend the coast. In contrast, Italian troops who were deployed there were able, on 10 July, to blow up the ports of Gela and Licata to deny them to the Allies.
The Italian forces resisted but were overwhelmed. For example, when the Eighth Army landed, that part of the coast was defended by the 206th Coastal Division, which was scattered along a line more than 80 miles (130 kilometres) long. The British first wave alone outnumbered the Italian defenders three to one. The Italians, who had no tanks, were annihilated. However, when the British moved on to attack the Italian-defended city of Catania, it took 23 days of hard fighting to fall. The US Seventh Army landed south of Gela. Italian coastal units resisted as best they could, but suffered heavy casualties: the 429th Coastal Battalion lost 45 per cent of its men. The Livorno Division counter-attacked, supported by 50 obsolete Italian tanks and by aircraft bombing the beachhead, but the attack failed with the loss of 50 per cent ofthe troops. There were 176 German tanks in Sicily, part ofthe three German divisions there, but they were too far away to offer initial support. When the panzer units finally arrived, the attack was resumed with initial success, but the American troops, supported by naval firepower, fought bravely and enlarged their beachhead. The Allies benefitted from support provided by the Sicilian Mafia, which had hungered for revenge against the Fascist authorities since the 1920s and helped Allied Intelligence to build up detailed local information. Some Italian officers seeking to organise opposition to the Allies were shot, while some American units received guidance from local Mafiosi.
Subsequently, with Montgomery held before Catania, Lieutenant General George S. Patton commanding US Seventh Army, moved north to Palermo, creating and exploiting opportunities for outflanking Axis opposition. The heavily outnumbered Assietta Infantry Division was unable to stop him and, having taken Palermo, Patton moved eastward on Messina after fighting off counter-attacks at Troina. The war had taken on an attritional character for Germany and Japan, and for Italy the conflict had been forced onto home terrain. The availability of massive resources enabled the Allies to maintain their attack.”
