Merlin of Groenewellan: Hrodwyn's late mother whose stories and spirit they keep close to heart ✨ Hrodwyn doesn't remember much else about her, since she died protecting her kids after one, due to Starblight, transformed and cannibalised another child.

She's a sparrow-shifter like the rest of the family, except she lived most of her life as a human up until meeting Hrothgar (Hrod's dad). So she's a lot more human oriented in culture and in ways of life! That's why her outfit is different from the rest: instead of manifesting clothes with 'magic' (actually nanobots) (this is how they shift forms too), she makes them. She's also using a wolf pelt unlike the rest of the family's feather-down cloaks.

I procrastinated on my assignment so hard, I finished a sketch I've been procrastinating on for 4 months LMAO glad it's finally done! I like how the colours turned out too. I'm just hoping tumblr won't crunch down on them like they're doing in the draft preview

An NPC from a Delta Green game I'm in: Helvetia's therapist turned case officer/director, since all the other case officers/directors got assassinated.

All these were inspired from the play-by-post segments of our otherwise weekly voice sessions! (Except top left which was a warmup, cuz boy I'm rusty at drawing.) Her wide range of expressions were too interesting/fun to not scribble down. and yeah bottom right really is NOT a good look for her

I like to think that Finan and Claretta (Delta Green characters), in the D&D5e world, would be a pair of retired-adventurer Harengons who now spend their days running their cozy, cottagecore tavern. And since it was the Year of the Rabbit in 2023, it was the perfect chance to draw this!

Finan (left) is based on the Sumatran striped rabbit (only rabbit endemic to Indonesia), and Claretta (right) is based on the Fujian yellow rabbit (Chinese-Indonesian, ancestors from Fujian). Also the initial reason as to why they're harengons is because I thought it'll be funny if Finan, the short guy, was a Small-sized creature in D&D lol

I drew a postcard for each module/operation my 1-year Delta Green TTRPG/M-EPIC group went on along with bonus illustrations, including the last one which was a surprise for the party when our campaign ended. I also drew 170 sticky note comics for this campaign lmao and you can read those + the hook for each operation below! Each postcard (and coincidentally each drawing here) is in a different art style, too.

Operation FELDSPAR: digital, B&W inky screentones with colour accents inspired by Blue Period

Operation METERSTICK: digital, lineless, textured painting (usually I only use the g-pen/default pen brush and call it a day)

The Sundance Incident: digital colouring and rendering inspired by Stand Still, Stay Silent (I seldom focus on colour scheme like this)

Operation AIRBSUH: traditional stencil printing with acrylic paint, touched up with drawing pens with a movie-poster composition

Operation NANARLUK: my usual digital style of cell-shaded characters against a g-pen painted background!. Also, bonus optical illusion! Reality go brr

Interview with Claretta Tedyono 2: Not My Style

TORONTO, 2011: “Cheating death 4 times? Is it from your time in the army?”

C: …Sure. We can go with that. [laughs] You did your research!

“Well, you’d never picture child-prodigy virtuoso violinists in warzones! Why did you enlist?”

C: Not patriotism, that’s for sure! In high school, there was lots of pressure, lots of expectations. So I ran away to the army! [Laughs] Sometimes I wonder what the folks at Curtis think of that.

“How was serving?”

C: Awful. I was always either too soft or needed to smile more. I slipped into old habits I was trying to run from. I’m glad for people I’ve met in those years, but it’s a life I’d never want to return to.

“I’m glad you’re past that and in a better place now.”

C: Now I sound dead! [laughs]

“Well, we all thought you were 3 years ago! Were you serving then?”

C: Ah yes, my disappearance. I wasn’t serving, but… it’s complicated. And there are better things to talk about than sleeping for a year!

Claretta wanted to throw up. Wrapped in black kevlar, she could feel the thing in her stomach. An antenna's twitch, an abdomen’s squirm, a thorax's throb: the ghost of a year stolen entangled with intestine and liver and stomach.

Two years. It’s been two years of sleeping with her eyes open as wasps emerge from the corners of her bedroom. Strata Fossil Fuels burned to the ground. Still she feels their eyes watching from its ashes. All that Claretta’s fractured world offers are broken shards of normalcy, and piecing them together leaves cuts that sting with the truth: she will never be free.

Nyarlathotep, was it? A big fan of messing with humans, Finan said. But Strata drew the line: no world, no humans, no fun. Was dragging skeletons out of her closet—or her Strata uniform out of EPIC’s evidence vault—out of spite? Amusement? Maybe both.

Claretta swallowed her fear with anger. God, she needed to get out, to get air. Violin case slung over her shoulder, she kicked the door open with a crack. Silence fell. Eyes looked at her, then at her violin.

“You REALLY wanna know what’s inside?” she growled.

The crowd parted to let the virtuoso violinist through. Her dead eyes dared anyone to stop her.

Interview with Claretta Tedyono 4: The Game is On

TORONTO, 2011: “Speaking of your new album, we've witnessed 'Metamorphosis' in your career since childhood. Is this related to the album's pieces?"

C: Yes. Bruch was my debut. I burned wildly with Ysaÿe 3, died, and reignited when playing Tchaikovsky for my now-husband. That’s why I chose that piece for my concert. And Claire de Lune was arranged by my best friend for my wedding. Interpreting these past pieces as my current self is as much of a metamorphosis as the pieces are to me.

“Critics did note your big change in playing.”

C: But the biggest changes were undocumented, really. Most of my life has been written by others: reviews, articles, reports. Yes, they make up who I am, but I've evolved past that. Hidden in between those written lines is so much passion, music, and joy I thought I've lost. I’m done grieving the life written in my obituary. I won't let that be the end of my story, not when I finally have accompaniment to my music. That’s what I hope to share through my album.

S: This is Officer Syahputra. It’s 11 March 2009, a week since Operation NANARLUK’s conclusion and Tedyono’s extraction. She was abducted in Operation SHOCKBOARD, became Strata’s former Head of Security, and is the only known surviving V’Zerth host.

C: And is your fiancé.

S: …okay, I’m restarting this recording.

C: [laughs] Why?

S: I mean, this is gonna be government property!

C: It is a fact, though.

S: True, but I don't want people to think I’m unreliable because…

C: You’re anything but. That's why you're here.

S: Well, I promised to always watch your back. And I didn’t want you to be just another headline, another statistic…

C: If you're about to apologise, don't. It's your job. But don’t restart the recording. It’s been a year of being The Mission or the Head of Security and... I’m so tired of archetypes. Just let me be. And let me be yours.

S: ...I really missed you, Claretta.

C: Me too, Finan. Me too.

Reeeeeeaaaally outdated reference sheets of my Delta Green TTRPG player character Finan and my NPC Claretta. And by outdated, I mean I just don't like it lol. But it still serves its purpose, and I'll continue to use it until I come up with a new one.

Here's a redesign of Finan's M-EPIC uniform though. Besides having the yellow stripe run all the way up, I think it works!

Hrodwyn of Groenewellan, sparrow-shifter (Hengeyokai): my brutal scoundrel rogue PC for a 4e Westmarches (with their sparrow form). The only reason I painted this is because I want a nice picture for their token LOL

If there's anything I'm more surprised about than how this turned out a lot better than I expected, it's how the scanned result is SO GOOD and accurate. I haven't touched watercolours since that one time in 2020 and, while I definitely made mistakes I regret, I think this is still pretty good given I don't paint with watercolours. It definitely helps that, apparently, the way I've been painting digitally is basically the watercolour method.

Oh, this was inspired by Pavane by Gabriel Faure too! It kept looping in my head before and while painting this. I think it fits the state of Hrodwyn and their ice-age home planet Hwytvid at the start of the campaign. And here's a sketch/reference page thingy of coming up with their design.

Intreview with Claretta Tedyono 0: Audition

"TORONTO, 2011: Claretta Tedyono, once child prodigy and now violin virtuoso, has once again returned to the stage. After her second disappearance due to an accident that led to a year-long coma, the Indonesian violinist is back with a determination like no other, eager to relearn the techniques lost from her left side, and to rediscover her identity through revisiting her past repertoire with a new perspective in her new album 'Metamorphosis'."

Claretta takes a breath, staring at the sound booth where her interview will be recorded. A reassuring hand relaxes her tense shoulders.

"You'll be fine," the man says. "Just, y'know... careful with what you say. Wouldn't want my wife to end up on M-EPIC's hit list."

Claretta laughed. "Is that really how you wish someone good luck, Officer Syahputra?"

Officer Finan Syahputra sticks his tongue out at the honorific. "C'mon. Since when did you ever need luck? You got this."

He kisses her cheek and Claretta smiles. "And I've always been a better liar than you. Though the bar's on the floor for that."

Now that school's out, I hope I get to hang out proper with my friends now." "I didn't learn how to get my demon out, but I did learn from other people's weird magic hijinks! They took the time to understand their thing, so maybe I should stop fighting mine and try to understand it instead. Maybe, I'll understand more about myself. And maybe, it's not a demon after all..."

The SKSD 5e magic school westmarches ended! It's unfortunate that I wasn't able to participate much because of time zone differences and school, but I'm glad I was able to participate in what I was able to join. Thanks again @katastrofish for lending Dani as a PC! They were fun to play!
