If you have OCs... could you perhaps make a masterpost-link thing with them that I could save up to check them out/save to go back to if I forget anything on them? (Bonus points if u have potp/dragon ocs smiles)
ALSO your art slaps hell yeah 💪
Looks at you with big wet eyes. My tag #my oc should have all of em.
POTP is a universe in which I feel like it’s both difficult and impractical to make an oc for unless they exist before or after the story.
I fucking love dragons I haven’t drawn any dragons in so long. Besides Pokémon dragons.
And now I’ll see if I can remember all the tags of all my ocs. Or at least the main ones.
All of the links will just lead to their tag.
Harte Sekioka - Pokemon breeder and ex-magma admin from an amino roleplay that took place in 2017. Currently he’s used in a roleplay with friends because I didn’t want to make a new character for it. Just went ahead and decided he’s 20 years older now. Self-proclaimed sexmaster. Annoying. Single father of two. Should not be a father.
Claudia - A Ditto masquerading as a human from Harte’s universe. She’s helped him out with speeding up the process of selective Pokémon breeding. She’s also extremely important to Harte’s universe’s Team Magma.
Sif Saph - My BG3 character, I haven’t been able to play BG3 in forever. Not much info on him besides he’s the cousin of my first ever D&D character, Sif Krymsul. And he has blue dragon ancestry on his father’s side. Really really really hoping to draw him more I miss him so much.
Divo Success - Pokémon oc. He’s the platonic idea of a cowboy the same way The Stanley Parable’s Narrator is the platonic ideal of divorce. He hasn’t even seen a cow in his life. But he does have a gigantic horse that everyone is afraid of for her Stamina Iron Defense Body Press swagger. He has weird fucking abilities that allow him to be a western movie character. Every time he rides away on his horse it’s into the sunset. No matter what time of day it is. He can always appear in a cloud of dust or smoke. He operates entirely on rule of cool.
Daylight Under Outsmouth - A Call Of Cthulhu campaign that unfortunately never came to fruition. It’s about a universe being consumed by an oppressive darkness with the center of its terror being Earth. Things keep getting darker. Stars disappear from the sky. Aliens and extradimensional creatures find their way to earth as refugees. I reaaally want to make a comic or something with the story.
Aoife and Padraig - Characters made for my friend’s series called Analog Files. They’re the same person from different worlds. They’re married. They’re fucking weird. Aoife is dying of Cool Guy Cancer that’s turning her into a bug and then into a pile of flesh. She wants to be studied while she dies. Padraig loves studying her. They’re great.
Legally Distinct - A glam metal band made up of monsters from Universal Monster movies. I had made them for Art Fight, they’re quite silly, they have so much sex and do so much drugs. And rock n roll of course.
Nigellians - A type of creature made of music, glamor, passion, and magic. They’re born of human creation. Think of Eddie the Head if he was less powerful and less aggressive and more of a little fairy spirit.
Herb - An utau made by my friend NyxQuentiam who is voiced by me. I need to record a new voice bank so badly. He’s an artificial angel who harvests energy from other angels by killing and blending them. He then goes to the angel black market to turn mortals into angels: a high he should not be doing. But whatever, he’s having a good time.
Ward - Cringefail rich boy accidental racist fire genasi who sucks. Used him in a D&D campaign until it fizzled out due to the DM being weird. I don’t think I have much stuff with him here (I think it’s just one post) but he’s my beloved little shitstain. His sword is incredibly blunt. It does bludgeoning damage. He’s whining the entire time he’s adventuring.
Those are the main guys. Hope that helps! :)
Always feel free to ask more questions! Yippee yahoo yippeeeee

Hello Professor! I'm Sky, a pokemon breeder in the Hoenn region. Thanks for running such a helpful blog!
I'm wondering what are common illnesses/injuries for Castform and their signs? We get occasional Castform at the Sanctuary and I want to provide them any care they might need.
Hey there Professor! Glad you’re enjoying my blog. And thank you for asking about Castform! They are such a fascinating case in artificial Pokémon studies, so I love talking about them.
Castform have a lot in common with aerosols - solid/liquid particles suspended in air - like mist or clouds. They are mostly water and, like water, they change according to the environment they are in, specifically the temperature, which causes them to change forms. Each form has different typing and a handful of its own needs. That said, they’re pretty low maintenance overall so regardless of form, you shouldn’t have too much trouble keeping them happy and healthy.
Castform lose water as they go about their day-to-day and resulting dehydration can cause them all sorts of problems. The Rainy Form in particular, can become ill if the water in their bodies is left to stagnate. In our terms, this will look like fatigue, sluggishness and/or some mild dizziness. Giving them a regular supply of fresh water will solve this easily. Flowing water is ideal but as long as it’s regularly replaced there should be no problems. If you have one of those fountains they make for cat Pokémon, those work really well here. The Rainy Form struggles with this the most so do let them out into the rain if you can (or failing that, letting them sit in a running shower for a few minutes will help)
The other major consideration would be regular outdoor time - a high-up spot where they can observe and enjoy the weather is all they need, really. They can get a little glum if stuck indoors too long.
The major thing you should look out for with a Castform is “fronting” or “drylining”. Fronting is what we call it when, due to weather conditions, a Castform ends up stuck between two forms. This has been known to happen, funnily enough, during weather fronts, where two types of weather meet each other. It has also happened in very humid conditions where Castform can wind up in both Sunny and Rainy form at the same time. This is rarely if ever dangerous, but it can be uncomfortable for the Castform and cause them a bit of panic.
The best thing to do here is to let them find a patch of more stable weather. They can do this well on their own but should be supervised in case they need to go far afield. Once they settle into a single Form they may want to stay out and follow that particular patch for a bit while the rest of the weather smooths out.
On a similar note, the existence of fronting has led some scientists to speculate as to whether or not Castform could have a “Storm Form”. As weather fronts are usually the points where lightning storms start to brew. There’s no evidence out there yet, but it’s certainly interesting to think about.
In any case, I hope you feel better equipped to look after Castform now. They are very gentle and sweet Pokémon so I’m sure you’ll have a great time with any that come your way.
Thanks for the ask.

In the mean time I want to thank @pokemon-breeder-sky for being a good friend while this stuff was happening. They have been very supportive and have been a great support for relieving the stress.
I will see ya’ll this weekend where I left off with a description of Haina Desert on Ula’ula Island. See ya’ll soon and I hope you have a great day and that you patiently wait just a little bit longer for me to return.]]

Hey @pokemon-breeder-sky after a bit of thinking and talking with the littles I've decided that this little guy would have a happy life with you he is a male pichu/iglybuff hybrid with mainly pichu dominant traits outside of his ability to take in air like the iglybuff line to allow him to float he seems to be a fairy/electric type he lives to float about going up as high as he can but the main issue is unlike most purebred members of the pichu line he does not have the electricity housing cheek pouchs which makes learning and using certain electric type moves harder for him so I wouldn't be surprised if depending on how you work on that with him he may or may not loose the electric typing when he evolves into a Pikachu/jigglypuff anyway i am sending his pokeball to you right away I hope you both make many amazing memories together

Nightmare of the Nightmare
A charity commission for @saburo-kyoto featuring Pokemon Breeder Ayala with her traded Mythical Pokemon, Nightmare the Darkrai. The commission depicts Nightmare struggling to cope with the memories of a past trauma, and going to his trainer for comfort.
For him, rain was such a horrible thing. The sound of water drizzling from the sky sent wave upon wave of unpleasant terror rolling through him. The sound permeated his dreams, awakening memories that he would otherwise have been able to repress or ignore. The shadows, which would otherwise be his means of protection, warped and twisted in response to the presence of the rain. He became smothered by his own darkness. Confined and restrained by the memories which haunted his dreams. Not like chains, but like thick ropes. Thick ropes which restrained his limbs as heavy cloth was draped over his face. Cloth which he could not hope to pry off of his head as water was poured over his face. The sound of the rain became as suffocating as the waterlogged cloth in his dreams.
It mattered not how hard he struggled. It mattered not how hard he strained his lungs to try and breathe. His every breath felt like drowning. His every movement was a struggle to escape from a pool of water that never even existed. The rain replicated the sound of water drizzling from the cloth to splatter on the cold, unforgiving ground beneath. There was no escaping the absolute hell that was inflicted upon him. Not in his dreams. Not in his memories. The rain was a plague upon his psyche, driving him deeper into the darkness. Deeper into the shadows. Further tangling him up as he fed on his own terror like an Ekans swallowing its own tail. He couldn’t scream. He had no saviour to turn to in his time of need. His salvation came not in the form of physical freedom, but in the form of light and sound.
Lighting lit up the sky, illuminating the area about his sleeping space with bright and unashamed light. The deep, angry rumbling of thunder followed suit. These two things, when mixed together, proved to be a force powerful enough to rouse the Mythical Pokemon from his deep and unforgiving slumber. He was awoken violently, startled not by the lightnight or the thunder, but by the terror of his own dreams. In the instant that his eyes opened, the imaginary restraints of his memories disappeared; but he awoke fighting against them all the same. His arms flailed. He fought against the shadows that he had unwittingly wrapped about himself. In less than an instant, he forced himself from his hiding place within the darkness. His body was thrust from the restraints of the shadows and he fell from his resting place in the ceiling.
In his terrified state, he could not even be bothered to prevent himself from falling. Thankfully the only object waiting beneath him was the empty bed of his trainer. He landed on nothing and no one that could be damaged by his sudden fall. The bed creaked unhappily under his sudden weight, but thankfully it held firm. The mattress and pillows cushioned his fall, preventing him from being hurt. Though discovering the bed empty provided him with little comfort. He felt relief that he had not unintentionally harmed the woman that had provided him such comfort since his arrival here - yet at the same time, her lack of presence only added to his distress. The rain offered no signs of dying down any time soon. Alone in the darkness surrounded only by the sound that terrorized him, he could only fight his growing panic as he went in search of comfort.
In his frazzled state, he could not even trust his body to levitate from the ground. He swayed unseadily, waves of terror induced nausea rolling over him with each passing moment. Despite being equally unsteady on his legs, he trusted his ability to walk more. The ground provided some means of foundation for his support. Instinctively he went towards the door leading out of the bedroom. There, he found light waiting for him. The dim, promising light of his trainer being awake and working in the kitchen. There were baby Pokemon to be tended to. Shaky legs carried him down the steps of the stairs. Equally shaky hands clutched the wooden railing on either side of his body, preventing him from falling over. Preventing him from submitting to his own urge to curl up and cover his head in hopes of getting the sounds to stop.
Lightning and thunder became his saving grace. The sudden light and sound jarred his senses, drowning out the rumble of the rain for brief moments. He could move faster and with more confidence during these brief moments of relief. This allowed him to reach his destination faster than he would have otherwise. This prevented him from succumbing to his own terror and curling into himself. His trembling remained as he managed to carry himself around the corner. Relief rushed to take him as his eyes settled upon the image of his trainer putting away the food that had been used to feed the baby Pokemon. This was fortunate timing. His problems would not interfere with the care of those in need of more serious care than himself. Even so, he could hardly keep himself from falling.
It was so hard to keep himself upright. So hard to keep himself from giving in to his instincts. When she turned at last and spotted him, trembling, he broke. Her arms wrapped around his shoulders before his knees could even touch the ground. He wrapped his arms around her in turn, digging his claws into her clothing as he clung to her for all that he was worth. His real salvation. His only true source of comfort in these times of utter hell. She was warm and she was understanding of his plight. The rain still terrorized him when he could hear it. But the sound of her heart beating drowned it out. The sound of her humming random songs into his ear gave him something better to focus on. He was not going to be punished for showing these signs of weakness. She respected him and cared for him just as she cared for and respected all of her other pokemon.
He was nurtured and protected when his weakness overtook him. Not mocked and further terrorized. Ultimately, he lost track of how much time passed as he clung to her, head buried in the arch of her neck and hands gripping her so desperately that he put holes in the back of her shirt. His knees ached. As the pitter patter of the rain against the roof gradually dissipated and his nerves began to calm, he steadily grew more aware of his own exhaustion. Not to mention the obvious exhaustion of his trainer, who had remained steady in her attempts to comfort him throughout the night. In the end, hours had passed. He knew not what time he had been violently awoken from his sleep, but by the time that the rain stopped, the first signs of daybreak could be seen shining through the window.
He was tired. His trainer was no doubt equally tired. There were a few hours left before the daily chores needed to be started. A nap could at least stave off some of their exhaustion. Having been able to properly calm down, he was no longer trembling. No longer unsteady or overwhelmed with a sick feeling in his stomach. Even so, he remained reluctant to let go of her - if only slightly. His grip loosened slightly as he shifted to push himself to his feet. She followed suit, relaxing her grip on him as she attempted to stand. The key word being attempt. Her exhaustion proved stronger than his. He felt her body sway ever so slightly as she struggled to stay awake. After having been so diligently watched over in his time of need, it was his turn to do the favor.
The Darkrai took control from there, lifting the exhausted woman from the ground to carry her back to bed. It came as no surprise to him that she began to drift off the instant that it was clear that he would be alright. Even so, her presence alone provided him with comfort. The powers of an empath were unique. He carried her from the kitchen, up the stairs, and to her bed. He found the blankets and the pillows as a mess from his fall. From his panic as he thrashed upon the mattress for a moment before he had set out to find her. She was easy to hold while he prepared the bed for her. He fixed the blankets and the pillows before setting her down to rest. He tucked her in, but he did not leave her side. He did not return to the shadows to sleep. There was space beside her on the bed. Space he reluctantly shared with other Pokemon whenever they arrived to also sleep beside her.
He was safe. He was content. Able to comfortably rest in the presence of his trainer now that the rain had gone. Relaxed with the knowledge that even if the rain returned, he would not be forced to suffer alone. She would still be here. She would still comfort and tend to him - and no matter what, he would remain by her side to return the favor, should she ever need him in turn.

EPILOGUE
SAVE ME
...
...
"Don't question the universe, that's my motto. Sometimes things just work out."
- Fargo, The Heap
...
...
Raihan leaves the locker room only to discover that she is not waiting for him in the lobby as she said and the gym trainer manning the area tells him that she left due to an emergency. Something doesn't quite add up because not only is it uncharacteristic of her to run off like that but he has a bad feeling about whatever 'emergency' it is. When he presses the gym trainer for more information, he tells Raihan that someone gave him a white envelope addressed to his girlfriend.
There's not much to go on here so Raihan leaves Hammerlocke stadium and tries to call her only to get through to voicemail. Shortly after, he receives a message - it's from Chairman Rose and it's been sent to himself and Leon - and he opens and reads it: Rose says there's something happening in Rose Tower and all employees have been evacuated. Rose would like them to check it out and Raihan responds to the group chat, telling them that he's on his way. It's too much of a coincidence - somehow he feels he will find his girlfriend there...
When he arrives at Wyndon, he sees a few locals running away from the direction of Rose Tower and outside, many employees are standing around, confused. All the lights in Rose Tower are switched off, the building dark and grim for a change. Raihan looks all the way up to the very top of Rose Tower where the sky above it is a deep grey and ominous clouds swirl in a spectacular, circular fashion. It's strange weather considering it's sunny everywhere else.
Raihan enters the building just in time to see the Champion at the emergency lift with Charizard. "Leon." Raihan quickly jogs over and stops before him with his phone in hand.
Turning round, Leon grins widely at him. "Raihan! You made it."
"Yep."
"Thanks for coming." Leon adds, as the lift arrives and the doors slide open.
"No problem, let's go."
Inside, Leon and Raihan stand side-by-side in the large space and Leon pushes the button that will take them to the top floor whilst Charizard meanders behind them, staring outside the glass window. They are so far up that the people down below resembles durants...
"I wonder what's going on," mutters Raihan; he checks his phone but there's nothing posted online yet. Whatever is happening, they're the first ones on the scene...
"We'll find out when we get up there."
"This is just like the old times," Raihan adds, and Leon chuckles and nods. "What do you do when you're not saving Galar?"
Leon blinks owlishly in response. "Charizard and I visit each city and when we finish, we do another round."
"So diligent." Raihan replies with a smirk, and Leon grins.
The lift arrives at its destination and the doors slide open, revealing the outdoor arena; they're greeted with an extremely chilly burst of air that batters them from all over and Leon's hat almost blows off if he doesn't hold onto it.
Stepping out of the lift, the doors close behind them and Leon, Raihan and Charizard look up and around, assessing their surroundings. The sky around the top floor is a perpetual drab shade of ash and thick clouds have obscured the view; the clouds have enclosed the entire arena with harsh winds whipping round and round with no end.
That's not all for the entire area has been obliterated: a bust pipe to the side spits out water and the ground has been fractured by an immense force. The pressure of the atmosphere here is suffocating and various bits and pieces of rubble and droplets of water can be seen hovering a few inches above the ground, crackling with little forks of electricity whilst debris fly around in the air in hypnotising circles. The floor beneath them trembles and in the very middle of it all, a massive creature hovers before them.
It resembles a jellyfish, silvery-black in colour with a bulbous head and various tentacles that reach an enormous length - it's a Nihilego, although its form looks very different than usual. It's in the middle of a rampage with it's dark, transparent tentacles wrapped around two familiar figures - it's Alicia and Raihan's ex-girlfriend. They're completely immobilised, the tentacles coiling around their bodies tightly.
In its fury, Nihilego lifts up one of it's massive tentacles and reaches for the ex-girlfriend who is still struggling and roughly seizes something out of her hand - it's a DVD - and Nihilego throws it to the floor and promptly smashes it under one giant tentacle. The impact causes the floor to shake and the ground splits, resembling a mosaic. Alicia's phone is not spared either; a tentacle pries it away from her clutches and as Rotom safely escapes from the device, the phone also shares the same fate as the DVD and is crushed to pieces.
They shriek with terror, struggling for breath but they're quickly subdued when the tentacles begin to tighten around them; the helpless girls spot Leon and Raihan in the back and shout for them, crying with distress.
"Raihan, help!" The ex girlfriend screams.
"Help us!!" Alicia yelps.
Although Leon and Raihan don't know what the context around this is, their main concern is the Ultra Beast. Nihilego's tentacles quickly clamps over the girl's mouths, muffling their screams and effectively silencing them though they wriggle and squirm furiously, trying to escape their confines.
His ex desperately tries to make eye contact with him but Raihan avoids looking at her altogether, aware that she must have done something to incurred the wrath of an Ultra Breast.
Raihan makes his way over immediately with Leon and Charizard, narrowly ducking from pieces of rubble that zoom towards their direction.
Once they're close, Raihan realises Nihilego is not alone - his eyes widen briefly when he spots his girlfriend and it's a bizarre sight - she's been sucked inside the creature, the upper half of her body absorbed into the bell whilst her legs dangle. Bathed in a strangely comforting and warm glow, her eyes are closed, her long lashes dusting her cheekbones; she almost looks....peaceful. Sleeping. She doesn't seem to be conscious at all. In the bubble, her hair floats around her, resembling swirling tendrils.
Despite the situation, he remains calm. He yells her name and the Nihilego turns to him; her body sways with the movement, following the gravity.
Facing off against an Ultra Beast....this sort of thing wouldn't happen to him, not in a million years. His Rotom stares at the massive creature in awe and takes a few shots. Now's really not the time though.
"Let her go." He demands, and the beast emits a metallic screech in response, waving its tentacles around in the frigid air. It decides to attack, stabbing a tentacle towards his direction.
"Raihan, look out!" Leon yells. Charizard is quick to respond on Leon's behalf, unleashing a barrage of flames which causes the Nihilego to spontaneously retreat and Leon hastily joins his side. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine." Raihan mutters. "Thanks, Leon."
The two avert their attention to the Ultra Beast that rises before them; Charizard's flamethrower attack barely grazed it.
Raihan approaches Nihilego once more even though Leon calls after him.
As though sensing his presence, her eyes slowly begin to open but they are entirely glazed over, her pupils blank. Her mouth moves slightly, her voice merged with the creature. "....Raihan...?"
He yells her name once more, trying to get through. His princess... His poor princess needs him. "It's okay, I'm here. I'm right here."
She can't seem to see him; the corner of her eyes begin to prick with tears before they trickle relentlessly down her cheeks. ".....I'm....I'm so sorry."
"It's okay, princess. Just focus on me, on my voice. You can do it. Come back. Come back to me."
She struggles feebly; she tries, hard. She tries so hard, trying to resist and to break free only for the creature to grow darker and murkier in colour and it appears to inflict pain on her. "...Ngh....!!!" She cries out, squeezing her eyes shut.
Raihan keeps a hand on Duraludon's capsule, ready to use him if needed. She keeps trying to escape but Nihilego's grip on her is too strong and she begins to curl into herself, trying to pull her knees towards her chest. He yells her name again, facing the creature directly. "Let her go. Let them all go."
She stops at once and looks at the two hostages in her grip, then her blank eyes land on his form. There's a brief silence before the Nihilego flails in response, releasing another unearthly, shrill shriek.
"....Let them go?" She mutters, before her eyes narrow furiously and her lips pull back, teeth clenching with fury and she screams, "NEVER!!!!!"
A massive shockwave bursts forth from Nihilego's body, tearing through the atmosphere and promptly throwing Raihan and Leon off their feet. Charizard swoops forwards, catching Leon and Raihan in mid-air. They are deposited back to their feet with the Pokemon at their side whilst Nihilego lets out another ear-splitting scream and begins sucking the girl further into its body.
"No!" Raihan yells; he releases Duraludon onto the field and Leon commands Charizard to join the alloy pokemon. Raihan doesn't want to hurt her, he can't - he won't. But at the same time, Nihilego is hurting her. The beast is quick to react, tossing out two pokeballs into the field, releasing her Metagross and Garchomp.
"It's no use; she's been completely taken over!" Leon exclaims, as Raihan grips Duraludon's capsule tightly in his fist.
"I can't hurt her, Leon."
"We need to find a way to separate her from Nihilego."
Her pokemon are the next obstacle; their eyes are glowing a deep red, a sign of their possession.
"Her pokemon won't go down so easily; they're all EV trained."
"Let's use Dynamax!"
"Metagross, use Bullet Punch. Garchomp, use Outrage." She commands, without waiting for either of them.
There's no way to run from this - they have no choice but to battle - Metagross and Garchomp, under Nihilego's influence, wear ferocious expressions as they face off their opponents. Leon and Raihan promptly recall their pokemon and as a storm of red light begins to gather around their Dynamax bands, their capsules begin to enlarge before they toss them into the air and their gargantuan pokemon appear, their forms taking up most of the arena.
A double Dynamax has never been attempted before; Leon promptly instructs Charizard, pointing at Metagross. "Use G-Max Wildfire!"
"Duraludon, use G-Max Depletion!" Raihan shouts, and Duraludon releases a massive amount of energy from its body, hurling it towards Garchomp’s direction.
Her two pokemon, diminutive in size compared to the Dynamaxed Pokemon, charge forwards regardless. The result of the four pokemon clashing together at the same time creates another shockwave that completely desiccates the walls of the arena and any glass within the vicinity is shattered into pieces; the wind finally escapes the area and dissolves upwards into the atmosphere, finally revealing the calm, blue sky.
Leon and Raihan are forced to shield themselves and once the dust clears away, the Nihilego is stunned, having been pushed backwards although her pokemon aren't as fazed due to their unnatural stats. Duraludon and Charizard have taken a huge beating and begin to return to normal size.
Alicia and the ex-girlfriend are now unconscious and Nihilego drops them; they flop to the floor in a sad heap. With the brief distraction, Leon rushes to retrieve the unconscious girls whilst Nihilego begins to recover. It wastes no time; seemingly focused on Raihan only, she lunges for him again until -
"Stop!!!"
It's Looker.
With briefcase in hand, he emerges from the emergency lift and heads towards the group. He has Growlithe with him and he unclasps his case, revealing a strange round contraption constructed entirely of metal; he pushes on a button and the machine begins to whirr furiously, a bright orange glow gathering within the hollow of the device. Looker sets it down and tells everyone to take cover.
The device shoots a huge beam of energy into the atmosphere and stabs into nothingness - Raihan and Leon watch as a thin slit appears from out of nowhere in mid-air; the space is torn apart and it soon grows larger to a circular portal - an Ultra Wormhole.
Nihilego stops, it's attention captured by the portal and promptly begins to make its way towards it. Looker hands Growlithe a small metal disc to hold in its jaws and the puppy pokemon rushes up and tosses it towards the Nihilego - the disc automatically attaches itself to the ultra beast and administers a non-lethal shock in an attempt to separate it from it's host.
Unfortunately, nothing happens and the Nihilego begins to pass through the portal regardless. Looker curses under his breath but Raihan is quick to get up, following after the beast - she's still trapped within - and he grabs onto her before he's pulled inside and the portal closes behind them.
....
An eerie calm settles over the outdoor arena.
Looker steps over shards of broken glass and picks the device up and off the floor.
The light's off and it has run out of power. Cursing under his breath, Looker glances up as Growlithe rejoins his side. "Good job, boy." He mutters, patting the puppy on its head.
A short distance away, Leon checks the two unconscious girls. They're still breathing and aside from some bruises, they're unharmed. He lifts them one by one over Charizard's back and ensures they're strapped onto him safely, then tells the flame pokemon to take them to the nearest hospital. Leon thanks him in advance, thanks him for his courage and Charizard nods and flaps his wings and shoots into the sky, disappearing from view.
Leon watches them then heads over to the remaining Pokemon - Raihan’s Duraludon, her Metagross and Garchomp. They look worried about their owners but Leon tries his best to calm them down. Once they’re reassured, he returns to Looker's side.
"Hi Looker, long time no see."
"Hello Leon." Looker says, and the two shake hands before they turn to gaze at the wrecked arena and the despondent Pokemon who have no choice but to wait for their masters should they come back, if at all.
The arena is utterly destroyed - the amount of destruction dealt by Nihilego is beyond comprehensible. Chairman Rose is going to be livid about this. They cut the small talk, assessing the damage.
"Looks like we weren't able to stop Nihilego. And I doubt they'd be able to return unless we fix this." Looker says, lifting up his powered down device.
"That machine can open portals, right?" Leon replies, and Looker nods.
"Yep." He expected nothing less from the Champion of Galar. "It needs a lot of electricity. I'd have the Bureau Heliolisks power it up but it'll take too long."
"I have an idea. Let's talk to Chairman Rose and ask if we can use the energy plant."
Looker nods once again. "Let's go."
They both begin to exit, although Looker heads towards the direction of the emergency lift and Leon heads to the water closet.
"It's this way, Leon."
"Sorry!"
...
Meanwhile.
When you wake up, you're lying on the ground and you're in a dark place.
And you wonder if this is hell until Raihan pops up in front of your view. Although you are surprised to see him, all you can do is blink slowly as you discover your arms and legs cannot move. In fact, your entire body aches and hurts and Raihan gently lifts you into his arms.
You're able to groan and blink, your head throbbing, but when you open your mouth, a wet liquid spills out from the corner of your lips uncontrollably.
It's blood.
Coughing, you choke and more blood leaks out and drips down your chin... and Raihan - oh, he looks so worried and afraid and it hurts you to see him like this. He uses the sleeve of his hoodie to wipe away the blood and then at your forehead to dab at the sweat as you squeeze your eyes shut, hissing with pain.
It’s Nihilego’s toxins. They’re lethal.
"....Hey." He murmurs, gently stroking your hair and cheek.
Your vision grows blurry, filling up with tears. "....Raihan...?"
"I'm here." He reaches for your hand and threads your fingers with his, pressing his lips over your knuckles again and again.
You wonder if you're dying but you're too scared to even think about it any further. You squeeze your eyes shut again and a hot, fat tear leaks out from the corner of your eye and down the side of your face and into your hair, near your ear. Gasping out, you croak, "I'm sorry."
His mouth moves but you can't hear him so well. " - Save your strength." is something along the lines of what he says, " - need to get you out of here."
You find you have no strength; you are so tired that all you can do is just lie still, staring up at the deep, dark abyss that surrounds you.
Turning your head just a fraction, you see the Nihilego that possessed you is sprawled over the ground, unmoving. It's returned to normal - a harmless, white jelly. Is it knocked out or dead? There are other Nihilego floating around but they don't seem concerned with you at all.
You try to move although he doesn't want you to but you assure him you want to sit up. However, the moment you inch from your spot and you're wracked all over with pain so you're reduced to lying over his lap regardless. He ensures you're comfortable as much as possible and you close your eyes as you rest. "....I'm sorry I let this happen." You murmur.
"It's okay."
You shake your head. "No...it's not."
"What happened?" He asks, stroking your hair.
"I got a letter saying they had the DVD and I was to meet them in Rose Tower on my own. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have went." You mumble; you struggle to speak somewhat, sucking in long breaths and exhaling shakily, "...It was Alicia and your ex-girlfriend. They were... recording me and they knew how I was adopted and stuff....and they said they'd make sure everything about me would be made public. I got mad...and I was scared too. The energy band warned me but I ignored it and...a portal opened. Nihilego came out and took over me."
"It's not your fault."
You shake your head again and utter under your breath, "No, Rai, I wanted to hurt them. I wanted to make them pay. I did. I really did. I'd had enough. I was sick and tired of being pushed around....but I feel bad for what I did. I don't feel any better about myself for hurting them. If we make it out of here, I'll...I'll turn myself in."
He smooths your hair down with his large palm. "You were possessed by Nihilego. It wasn't you. Everyone saw that and they'll be the ones who will get into trouble, not you."
"But you're here because of me. I did this."
He shakes his head. "No, I'm here because I want to be here. And I don't know about you but I'm at my wit's end with this place."
"I'll try and get us out of here." You mutter, "...But I need to be under great emotional distress....that's what Looker said."
You wonder how you might be able to pull this off, squeezing your eyes shut and attempting to concentrate. But nothing happens, no matter how hard you try. You try to think of everything that’s happened to you, all the misfortune, all the times you’ve been miserable.
It doesn’t work.
Nothing happens.
You’re probably stuck here forever.
You will die from the poison, the cold and starvation. How awful.
As Raihan continues to hold you, you look up and around, spotting the various dim lights that glow in the area. They're from iridescent rocks stuck to the walls of this place - and it occurs to you that you're in Ultra Deep Sea, possibly thousands of light years away. You recognise it due to the hypnosis session you had with Looker. You're in a different dimension.
However, the source of light is not only from the rocks, you see weak swirls in the air that glow and twinkle and grow larger and larger... identical to a ripple in water; when it clears, it shows something you didn't think was possible -
You see an image of yourself within.
It's a hazy picture....very blurry, but there you are, seated at a laptop and looking at the screen. This 'other you' looks exactly the same as you, although her clothes are different and the place she's in is different.
She is reading something on the screen.
But all of a sudden, she looks away. She is confused and she is looking around as though trying to pinpoint something. To find something. She doesn't find it, whatever it is she is looking for.
The image of this 'other you' disappears after a short while.
Another portal opens, revealing another fuzzy image of you - except this time, this ‘other you’ is on her phone, also reading something on the screen. This 'another you' looks up at once as though aware of something. The 'other you' keeps looking around but cannot seem to find what she's looking for either.
The portal closes.
Raihan peers at you when he notices you are staring wide-eyed into nothingness. "What is it?"
"....I...I saw a parallel dimension. Not one but two." Raihan looks confused but you don’t elaborate. You don’t see any more parallel dimensions. The visions don’t come. And you and Raihan are still stuck here.
"I'm sorry, Rai..." You mutter deliriously; you apologise to him again and again.
You see him smiling and his mouth moves, " - be here for you. I'll always be here for you."
You're becoming so exhausted that your eyes slide to a close. It's getting hard to keep awake and you're afraid that this is it...Afraid that if you close your eyes, you'll be gone forever. You force yourself to keep your eyes open, focusing on him.
You love Raihan so much.
It can't end like this.
He brings out the best of you. You want to be with him...You haven't even moved in with him yet. You want to have so many memories with him, you want to do so many things together... you want to grow old together.
It's getting cold...
Raihan lifts you off the ground slightly and into his embrace, unzipping his oversized hoodie and wrapping it around you.
You slump against his chest as he holds you and he tells you what's on his mind.
He wants to be with you. He wants to spend his life with you. You're the one. You are so gentle and kind, so caring and loving. You're so cute and adorable. He's never met anyone like you before. Sure, people would describe you as a wallflower but he loves that the most about you.
You're quiet.
You're introverted.
So what?
You're perfect the way you are. You're insightful and deep, you make him happy in so many ways and he loves you. You're his everything.
When you let out a chuckle, he grins in return, leaning forwards to press his lips against yours. He gets blood on the corner of his mouth so you lift your hand and gently wipe it away. He clutches your hand and holds you close.
Even if this it, if this is the end... at least you are together...
...
Meanwhile.
Leon and Looker arrive at Chairman Rose's office.
They explain everything to him and Looker shows him the device - which requires a lot of electricity to work and the energy plant is their quickest option. However, the amount of energy needed will put everything to a stop - that's how much energy is needed to open an Ultra Wormhole. The device is the equivalent to the energy a Solgaleo or a Lunala emits in order to open a Wormhole, and they are pokemon they do not have at hand so the device is their only hope.
Rose agrees.
It takes a while to set everything up.
...
In the quiet suburbs of Wyndon, a couple are about to sit down in front of their TV when the ground begins to tremble, their lamp flashes before the TV switches off.
In Spikemuth, Piers' concert abruptly comes to a stop when their electric bass guitars and microphone stops working and all lights go off, bathing the hall in darkness.
In Turrfield stadium, Milo is mowing the pitch and grinds to a halt when his lawnmower powers down.
In Ballonlea, Opal is baking a cake when her oven switches off and the lights of her house go out.
In the Wild Area, a vast majority of the Pokemon lurking in the tall grass and trees stop what they're doing to look up at the sky.
Whilst some people poke their heads out of the window, some leave their house with their Pokemon and head to the streets, baffled. This phenomenon brings the people together - neighbours gather round, siblings talk to each other, friends send messages or call each other on their phones.
All across of Galar, a power cut sweeps over the entire region.
Raihan wonder how long they've been here.
He can tell she's growing uncomfortable; Nihilego's poison could be spreading. When he calls her name, she squeezes her eyes shut and coughs up blood again, staining her chin and the front of his hoodie. It doesn't show on his face but he is so worried; he remains strong for her, holding her to his chest, trying to ease the pain she is feeling. They need to get out of here, they need to, or else -
"Poi?"
Raihan glances up at the source of the noise.
A little purple blob pokes it's head out from one of the rocks, peering at them curiously. He doesn't know much about Ultra Beasts but he knows what this one is called. The strange creature slowly hovers out of its hiding place and floats towards them. It has glowing eyes and a tiny body and tail but otherwise....it appears docile and it squeals loudly, glancing at her before it looks at him.
He asks if it can help them.
Unfortunately it shakes its head but then circles them excitedly, flailing its little arms up and down. Looks like it's stuck here too and it's happy to see other people. Raihan watches as it begins spinning upside-down, balancing on the needle of its head.
"....A Poipole...?" She utters, as it breezes past them, "....What's it....doing here?"
"Poi." It says.
And she smiles. "Of course you can stay with us...."
It trills happily and jumps to perch on Raihan's shoulder before it spots his hood and nestles itself within.
The silence returns, but then...
A light appears.
It’s bright and it grabs everyone's attention; glancing over, a portal has opened nearby and Leon is on the other side with Chairman Rose and Looker, waving at them.
...
8 months later.
"Come on, Poipole."
The purple ultra beast lets out a high-pitched squeal of glee and floats after you as you head towards your house with shopping bags in hand. Null pads along beside you and attracts many stares from passerbys.
"Zzzrt, you've received a mezzzage from Doofuzzz and Glenn."
"Thanks, Rotom." Swiping the screen, you see Glenn has sent you a photo of himself with your Dragapult, Espie, Poliwag and the family Rockruff in the yard. Glenn is helping Dragapult file down his claws. Then you see mom and Sugarplum the Galarian Ponyta. You grin to yourself and then check the message Raihan has sent you.
It's a nude.
Motherfurret! You weren't expecting anything this raunchy from him, especially in broad daylight too! Your cheeks go red and you quickly swipe away, hoping no-one had seen but Poipole suddenly squeaks and turns round with his back facing you, hugging itself with its little arms and imitates kissing sounds.
"Oh, hush." You say, when it stops, turns back round and giggles. You ask Rotom to promptly dial the dragon tamer; it rings for a few seconds and then -
"Hey princess." You can hear him grinning.
"I'm outside and Poipole and Null are with me!" You exclaim.
He chuckles and purrs, "Are you coming back anytime soon?"
"Yeah...we're on our way back right now."
"Great. Door's unlocked, baby girl. I’ll be waiting for you."
Your cheeks go warm as you chuckle after hanging up and continue the journey except you increase your speed, walking at a faster rate.
Poipole and Null are the newest additions to your team; Poipole stayed with you after you were saved by Leon, Looker and Chairman Rose, clinging onto your shoulder when you were taken to hospital.
Although you had fused with Nihilego, there was another individual who was known to have successfully fused with an Ultra Beast - and the first to do so, actually - and it was a woman called Lusamine. She's not the only human who had merged with an entity before - a man named Bill from Kanto was the first recorded case. Although your fusion with Nihilego was quite severe, a cure was developed and provided from their research and extensive studies.
You were saved.
Raihan stayed with you the entire time when you were in hospital. Although he still had many matches going on, every minute of his spare time was spent by your side when you were unconscious and when you woke up, he was the first person you saw.
Mom and Glenn came to visit and they too, watched over your recovery. You remained in hospital for a month or so to recuperate, undertaking some physical rehab and psychological assessments but overall, you were fine and eventually discharged.
Before you leave hospital though, Looker arrives and you thank him for his help. He's glad you're safe but you're afraid that he'll take you away from Raihan and your family to some unknown facility where they'll do research on you.
But he doesn't do any of the sort - instead, he informs you there is a special squad that consists of individuals who are Fallers like yourself who can teach you to harness your energy, train your mind and they also specialise in tracking and hunting Ultra Beasts. He asks if you'd like to join the unit but you decline the offer. He tells you it's always on the table should you ever change your mind.
He has a parting gift for you - a Type: Null.
It's a pokemon that was manufactured by Macro Cosmos using stolen research and this one was successfully confiscated but Looker suspects they have more somewhere.
Although it was under his protection, it doesn't listen to him so he wasn't able to use it at Rose Tower. Looker has decided to entrust it to you; it needs a strong trainer and he believes you will take good care of it and raise it with love and affection so that one day, it can fulfil its potential, break it's helmet and evolve into Silvally. He also gives you the memories it needs to adjust its type at any given moment.
You thank Looker again and he notes how you have a Poipole and that they too, have a home somewhere in Ultra Deep Space. He has the technology to open Ultra Wormholes so you ask Poipole if he wants to go home.
Poipole declines, having decided to stay here with you and Looker gives you a beast ball for Poipole, then takes his leave. You occasionally send him photos of Poipole and Null's progress.
Although you dislike thinking about it, the incident at Rose Tower is not forgotten. Although the DVD was destroyed, it is discovered to be blank because Raihan's ex-girlfriend never found any incriminating evidence in the stalker's house despite the tip. Banette never hid anything and there is nothing in the stalker's house. The authorities decide two girls want to utilise this as an opportunity to blackmail although the girls maintain their innocence that what they were doing was nothing but a 'harmless prank'.
Regardless, they are both fined and sentenced to community service; Cheerleader Alicia is ultimately fired from Hammerlocke. You never hear from her again; she's too afraid to go near you nor will she bother you ever again, according to some sources.
On the other hand, Raihan's ex-girlfriend remains active on social media after her punishment and escapes true justice. She makes a public apology online but it's not truly heartfelt. By doing so, she protects herself from severe punishment although she loses a majority of her contracts, sponsors and supporters along the way. She does go off the radar for a while to lie low but no-one will ever know the ugly truth because she still has some loyal fans who will remain by her side and continue to support her, refusing to believe their idol is capable of hurting others.
Besides, you know for sure that you will never hear from her again. Like Alicia, she is deathly afraid of you. An online article about Raihan subsequently appears on Froakit written by a user called Wooloomyloo111, outlining a running trend that everyone who is associated with him seems to end up in jail or experiences some misfortune. They're not half-wrong.
You have good news about your friend. She wakes up in hospital and discovers that she is now jobless but the liberation enables her to reassess her life and she plucks up the courage to finally move to Galar with her Pokemon. Since you have moved out of Ballonlea to move in with Raihan, she takes over your lease and it works out well. She wastes no time in getting a new job and applies to be an aide at Professor Magnolia's laboratory and successfully lands the job.
And on her first day, she finally meets Leon in person. He goes to the lab regularly and he’s heading there again to pick up three starter Pokemon that he will gift to his little brother and his friend in Postwick, who are starting their own pokemon journey soon.
Everything seems to be working out fine so you dedicate more time in training your pokemon. Goomy decides he wants to evolve into a Goodra after he falls in love with Raihan's Goodra and Raihan's Dratini evolves into Dragonite and applies for a job as a delivery pokemon, bringing more income to the household.
Raihan also recently gets the house refurbished though you did your own paint job which took an entire weekend. He takes down his old photos of Eli and his ex and has them replaced with new photos. The group photo you took from the Dragon's Den is framed, along with the group photo taken after Rose's party, there is also a selfie with yourself and Raihan and finally, he puts up a group photo featuring Raihan, yourself, his pokemon team and yours. There is also the photo he took of you with the Butterfree.
You bring some of your photos too for the shelf but he sneakily gets rid of your photo with Morty.
From sleeping together, taking showers together, cooking together, you and Raihan are even closer than ever before. There is something satisfying waking up beside him every morning and it is also satisfying when you open your closets and cupboards where you see a mixture of your clothes and his in the lot.
You continue your job at the daycare but the amount of pokemon being left behind and uncollected begin to increase and often they are abused by their negligent trainers. You're sitting on the sofa and chilling with Raihan when you remember that some time ago, the thought of opening a sanctuary for abandoned pokemon had once crossed your mind.
Although you're afraid, the encouragement you receive from Raihan and your family gives you the courage to ask if your boss would allow adoption service considering the Wild Area nursery has space for additional pokemon most of the time. To your surprise, your boss agrees. You handle all necessary paperwork and the equipment needed, the extra food and water is all sourced on your own.
Cinnabar Island wasn't rebuilt in a day so it takes a while to start up but once the abandoned pokemon come rolling in, everything seems to fall into place. When you've got enough money, you will definitely open your own nursery. It's a goal you will work towards from now on, and Raihan and your family are there to support you.
You maintain contact with your ex-boss, telling her the good news. You learn from her that she has accepted Phantump and you are welcome to visit them anytime.
Something remains unresolved however: Driffie.
You've not seen him since. Occasionally, you'll head to the Wild Area where the wild Drifloon lurk around but you've never seen him. That day, you were really angry and you recognise that and you had even asked Raihan if you had made a mistake. Time heals all wounds, but it's too late because Driffie is gone for good.
Once you're at your house, you open the door and Poipole floats inside and Null squeezes in after you. You pat him affectionately as he helps you close the door.
"Rai, we're home!"
"I'm upstairs."
He must be in bed, waiting for you.
You recall Poipole and Null after storing away the groceries and make your way up to the bedroom, opening the door only to see it's empty. "Rai?"
Suddenly the door closes behind you and a pair of arms wrap firmly around your waist, pulling you up against a broad chest and he leans down, pressing his lips against your neck. You chuckle as he smirks against your skin and murmurs, "Took you long enough."
"Sorry to keep you waiting." You mutter as you turn round in his embrace as he peppers you with kisses and you wrap your arms around his neck as he walks you to the bed and drops you over the mattress, lips claiming yours roughly.
Whilst you kick off your pants, he yanks at your top however the doorbell rings and you stop kissing him to look up.
"Who could that be?" You mutter, as Raihan presses deep kisses all over your neck and mouth.
Having been interrupted, he reluctantly lifts himself off you and you pull your pants back up, leaving the room first and trotting down the stairs to the front door. It could be a Boy Scout, a salesperson or maybe just a visitor.
However, upon opening the door, you're surprised to see it is none of the sort and your eyes widen - it is a little purple balloon floating on your doorstep with a dirty pokeball wrapped around one stringy hand. It looks at you hopefully.
"....Floo..." It wheezes gently, blinking up at you.
"...Driffie?"
"Floo...."
"Oh, Driffie," you murmur, "Oh..."
You hear Raihan heading down the stairs before he stops behind you, half-dressed. "Who is it?" When he sees the balloon pokemon, he grins and joins your side, wrapping his arm around your shoulder.
"Floo-floo..." Drifloon exchanges glances between yourself and Raihan, then to his pokeball and lifts it up to you.
You emit a gentle sigh under your breath and accept the pokeball off him; it's badly beaten and battered... he'll need a new capsule. Your gaze softens before you hold out your arms. Drifloon floats towards you and into your embrace and you hug tightly.
Raihan watches you with a smile as you welcome Driffie into your home; you bring him inside with Raihan and close the door behind you.
...
Rose gazes at the city of Wyndon from his penthouse. He recalls the day the entire region lost power for a few minutes in order for the energy plant to generate enough power to be diverted to Looker's device that would open a Ultra Wormhole so that Raihan and his girlfriend could return safely.
He holds a document with the word 'Eternatus' stamped on it; it could hold the key in preventing Galar's energy crisis.
...
...
In Postwick, Hop leaves his house with Wooloo to meet Gloria. Leon will be arriving at Wedgehurst and he has gifts for them.
Their journey is just beginning.

So professor Fanalia any tips for rookie trainers wanting to start with a dragon type?
Professor Fanalia: “Alright hold it right there. I must warn you that Dragon-types are all high maintenance. There isn’t any really beginner-type friendly Dragon-types for rookie trainers, these little guys require at lot experienced care, and just buying the right products can make any normal trainers’ wallet empty. And due to some of them being powerful to the get go, its hard to simply earn their respect n’ loyalty in return. It’s a long and tedious achievement to even receive that.”
“So, no there is no Singular Dragon-type you can start out simply because you want to. However, if you really want a starter that is Dragon-ish or has the potential to reach a dragon-typing at the end, your best bet is a Charmander, Swablu, or even a Horsea. Despite not being at Dragon-type at first, these mono-types have to the potential to become one, and are the best way to work your way up to working with full-blooded Dragon-types. The Safety and the wellbeing of Pokémon is top priority here, be the smarter trainer and pick something a little easier to start with, then work your way towards a Dragon. Even I had to start with something different before I eventually got one of my now permanent members of my team. And that was way after the Neverland Facility was built.”
“This is the same with every other Pokémon, Love and respect your partners but don’t over-coddle them. Just like us they sometimes want their space and that’s okay, sometimes they want reassurance for sometimes they feel lonely. Love, respect, enrichment, plus the proper care and merely spending time with them is what is all required. Every Pokémon, no matter what type have very different and specific needs.”
“Though, if you’re looking for some for proper care tips, I might suggest checking out @pokemon-grooming. They have some informative ways on proper care, while @pokebiologist and @pokemon-breeder-sky have intriguing notes you can take up on."

Bundle of Yarrow Chapter 7 is up!
Your adventure continues! Spending your last days in the Wild Area with Milo before you get to Motostoke. But so many feelings have gone unspoken. What will come out before you have to part ways? Read on AO3: https://archiveofourown.org/works/29087343/chapters/72689874 or below the cut! Comments and feedback always welcome <3
West Lake Axewell
The first thing you notice is how incredibly quiet it was. If you were next to a body of water in Alola, it was almost certainly the ocean, rolling in from the distance, rhythmically crashing against the shore. As you look to the gigantic lake, its stillness shook you. Underneath the overcast sky it was almost eerie, with the only movement being the occasional water Pokemon breaking the surface. Your body wanted to shiver, but it’s wasn’t really that cold, just grey and silent. The breeze seemed to rustle the tall grass more than wild Pokemon.
“Quite the sight, huh?” Milo was looking out at the lake also as the both of you approached it. “One of the few flat areas in Galar, you can see straight across.”
He was right, though you can’t really make out much given the fading light and how cloudy it is. But you do see the walls of a large city, making you pause a bit. You forgot that civilization existed for a while, what with all the dangers of the Wild Area. Who lets kids, much less anyone without experience, just waltz in here?
“Is that…?”
“Yep, that there’s Motostoke! The city gates are pretty much on the opposite side of the lake from us.”
So close, yet so far. You let out a little sigh.
“You alright? Leg botherin’ ya?” The concern in his voice creates a funny feeling in your stomach.
You put out your leg and rotate your foot in the air. “I think it’s fine, it hasn’t gotten worse at least. It’s more that I haven’t done camping and hiking like this in my entire life. So to get so much of it all at once has been quite the experience.” To put it lightly.
“Definitely havin’ an adventure, aren’t ya?” He offers a smile, because of course his first instinct is to lighten the mood. And it’s nice, you enjoy it.
“You can say that again!”
Milo scans the path in front of you. “I know we’ve been goin’ at it all day, but if we can cross that bridge over there,” He points out to a large wooden bridge that spans the skinniest part of the lake. “and then set up camp, Motostoke is reachable tomorrow.” Milo looks back to you, still concerned. “What do ya think?”
Nodding, you shift the bag on your back to sit more comfortably. “Sounds like a plan! Thanks so much for being my guide Milo, I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
He looks away, pink tufts of hair blocking his expression from view. “Oh it’s nothin’…” He mumbles out, among other indiscernible words.
The both of you maintain idle chit-chat along the way, mainly you pointing at a Pokemon you don’t recognize and Milo telling you what he knows about it. You get the sense that Milo is a bit of an introvert, and that silence without the pressure to talk is something that comforts him. He fumbles over his words often, but you find that charming. He seems preoccupied with trying to say the right thing, and the right thing tends to come naturally, except when you catch him off-guard. It’s hard not to enjoy watching him get flustered over little things.
As you draw closer to the bridge, you notice that the amount of tall grass in the area is increasing. There’s a clear path forward, but you feel a bit uneasy. Like someone, or something, was watching you. Rustling in the tall grass picked up the further along you went, and you instinctively grasped Milo’s arm. You had been walking without his support for a while now, so Milo jumped a bit in surprise.
“Milo, something is stalking us in the tall grass.”
“H-huh?” When you look over, his head is turned in the opposite direction, like he was avoiding something.
“Wait, what’s the matter? Are you feeling okay?”
“I’m f-fine! Jus’ dandy!”
“Why won’t you look at me? Is something wrong?”
“It’s nothin’! Don’t-”
“PAN!”
A small figure dashed out of the tall grass and right in the path of you and Milo. You actually recognized this one, it was a Pancham. She began to execute a series of martial arts moves, not attacking either of you but clearly it was a show of force. The Pancham ended with a dramatic and aggressive pose, shooting her most intimidating glare at you.
“CHAM!”
Moments pass in silence until you can’t handle it anymore.
You begin to giggle. “It’s adorable.”
The Pancham is clearly shocked at your reaction.
Milo smiles and rubs the back of his neck. “She’s a cutie pie that’s for sure.”
Her head hangs in shame. It seems like the Pokemon really thought she really had the upper hand here.
You walk over and squat down in front of her. “Hey now, don’t be sad! Just because you’re adorable doesn’t mean you’re not also very cool and strong!”
“Pan…?” The Pokemon’s eyes looked up to you, glistening.
“You’re the most fearsome Fighting Pokemon I’ve met in Galar!” Granted, this is the first Fighting-type you’ve met since you arrived, but she didn’t need to know that.
Pancham’s paws went to her hips and she confidently posed with that leaf in her mouth. You slowly extended your hand, and as you didn’t feel like she meant any harm, pet her on the head. She couldn’t help but smile and nuzzle into your hand.
“Something tells me you’re in the mood to play, am I right?”
The Pokemon nods before turning to the side and shadowboxing some more.
“How about this: if you can guide us across this scary bridge,” You gesture to your next destination. “I’ll let you battle with my Pokemon while we set up camp. And I’m sure Milo’s would love to make some new friends too, right Milo?”
You look back to Milo, who is looking down to you with a smile. This smile felt different from his usual, though you couldn’t really pinpoint why.
“You betchya! I have a few achin’ to have some fun.”
“What do you say? Will you help us out? We could use a brave Pokemon like you.”
If the Pancham still had a bruised ego, that was yesterday and now is a brand new day. She turned around and marched towards the bridge, looking about for any dangers to quell.
You rose from your low position, but must have struck a weird angle doing so because your injured leg felt weak. Stumbling and giving out a quick yelp, you felt a sudden pair of hands on your torso.
“Easy there now.” Milo helped you stand. “Leg still actin’ up?”
His hands were both gentle and firm as they helped you balance, and you were definitely blushing feeling him so close.
“Th-thanks Milo.” The Butterfree inside you danced. “It’s not so bad. I’m sure some rest will do it good.”
Eventually he lets you go when it seemed you were stable, and guided you forward behind the Pancham with a light palm on your back. It impressed you how he acted this way so naturally. Not that you were a cold person who ignored others in peril. But it seemed his body just moved like a reflex whenever someone was in need.
“It’s amazing how well you handled that Pancham.” Milo said it more to himself that you, like he was musing about something. “If you don’t end up a trainer, I could see ya as a great Pokemon breeder.” You’ve never considered the possibility before. “We have a Daycare Center right by Turffield, you should visit it sometime!”
“Oh? Is Turffield where you’re from?”
“Born n’ raised!” He beams with pride. "I miss it each time I have to travel. Quite peaceful, and the folk are humble and kind. It may not be a big fancy city but, it's home.”
It isn't long until you all make it to the bridge. The Pancham makes an exaggerated scouting motion, as if trying to scope out any enemies. Satisfied with the safety of the bridge, she waves the two of you to follow her.
The bridge itself feels sturdy, which is a relief because it's quite long. You can see from here that Lake Axewell is full of powerful looking Pokemon, and you'd rather not meet any by falling in. Crossing the bridge went by rather uneventfully, mostly Milo sounding homesick through how he described Turffield to you, and Pancham turning back to look at you both, as if she really did feel responsible for ensuring your safety.
You realized this was the most Milo has talked without prompting since you both met, bubbling with enthusiasm when you asked him questions about his hometown. It’s almost like you finally found the thing that let down his walls a little bit. It was easy for Milo to come off as polite and well-mannered, but before now you had a creeping fear he was just being nice because that was the normal thing to do.
“Now you have to come n’ visit. All my Wooloo will love ya’.” But this made you feel a little better.
Once across the bridge, the colors of dusk were full in the sky. Thankfully it was easy enough to find a clearing nearby to set up camp. You let out your Pokemon to play with Pancham, only to have Wooloo and Yamper tackle to you the ground, giving you their excited and excessive versions of affection. Between your fits of giggles, you realize that your Pokemon probably felt your distress, but you left them in your bag and they were unable to get out.
“I missed you all too, I’m sorry it’s taken so long for you all to come out- ack, Yamper! Not in my mouth!” You can’t help but laugh as you sit up and hug your excited Pokemon. “And don’t forget to acquaint yourselves with Lotad!” The two scamper over to Vanillite and Lotad, who are chatting. You notice your Pancham guide acting a bit bashful to the side. “Now don’t be shy, everyone’s friendly! You all, make room for a new friend!” You gently push her towards your Pokemon, who let her join in.
The sound of opening Pokeballs draws your attention to your left, where you see three Pokemon floating around Milo. Two of them are the same species, though one seems incredibly stronger than the other. He’s gently petting them and whispering hellos.
“Go on, introduce yourselves.” They ride the breeze over to you, giggling and twirling around you. These must be native to Galar, or at least missing from Alola’s ecosystems, because you’ve never seen them before.
“This redhead here is Gossifleur,” Milo began, anticipating your question. Gossifleur spun as if on cue. “and these two elegant cotton balls are Eldegoss.” Both bowed towards you. The Gossifleur and one of the Eldegoss went over to join the other Pokemon, who were starting to play. “This one gave that Seismitoad a what-for when you were in trouble.” Made sense, he seemed way more experienced and skilled than any of the other Pokemon present.
You smiled and bowed as well. “I am in your debt. If you ever need me to sneak you treats past Milo, just give me the word.”
“H-hey now…” Milo put his hands to his hips as the Eldegoss twirled and giggled some more.
The two of you began to set up camp and the Pokemon romped and battled with each other. You were kind of relieved that your Pokemon could fight without direction, calling out orders in battle felt weird. If your Pokemon could fight more instinctively, that would would help out in future encounters.
First you helped Milo get his tent up, which his elder Eldegoss rested on top of the moment you finished. Then you looked around for sticks and dried up driftwood, since this area had less trees than the others you’ve camped at so far. You spot Milo squatting down at the coast of the lake and pulling up roots of some sort. Eventually you make it back to camp and begin stacking the wood, and Milo returns with what looks to be vegetables just washed in the lake.
“So for dinner, I’m thinkin’ I’ll-”
“Oh no no.” You interrupt, taking the roots from him. “You have been working so hard taking care of me. Let me do something for you.”
This catches Milo by surprise, which makes him a bit flustered. You realize that he does a lot so naturally that it must rattle him when something unexpected happens.
“But I don’t m-mind! You’re hurt ‘n all.”
“How about you start the fire, then check in on the Pokemon and make sure everyone’s playing nice?”
He blinks a few times before showing you a bit of an embarrassed smile. “M’kay, only if you promise to holler if you need help.”
“Promise.”
You borrow Milo’s paring knife while he takes out some flint for fire-making. Along with the roots you have mushrooms that you picked in the Dappled Grove and the berries that survived the trip from the Rolling Fields. You bring the root up to your nose and smell it, immediately jerking it away when you get a strong pungent, bitter smell.
“I can go find something else if you want-”
“Milo.”
He looks a little startled. “Y-yes?”
You see that the fire is growing and should be fine for cooking in due time. You point over to where the Pokemon are hanging out. “Go play.” Milo almost scrambles over to the group, and you smile a bit as they cheer and involve him into their activities. You can hear some giggling from behind you, likely his Eldegoss still perched on the tent.
Turning back to the ingredients in front of you, it’s likely the meal will have to be centered around the pungent root and mushrooms. The root will have to be peeled and well-grilled to begin tempering the bitterness, meaning you will likely grill the mushrooms as well. They would be okay together, but need a little more balancing… You sift through the berries in your bag until you find what you’re looking for: persim berries. Cooking this into the roux of the curry is bound will downplay the bitter elements of the root and allow the mushrooms to shine a bit more.
Grabbing a pot Milo brought with him, you head down to the lake. Milo looks like he’s about to say something to you, but the Pokemon tackle him for his attention. You fill it with water and return it to the fire, beginning prep work as it begins to boil. You put in the rice and eventually make the curry with persim paste. As all that cooks, you take a small break as everyone is making some noise and you see a bright light flash from the center of the group. Lotad was evolving, and you got to be the first to congratulate her as you hug your new Lombre. She seemed a lot more relaxed in this form, and looking around, it seemed like your Pokemon were training and tiring themselves out. You’ll have to check and see if they learned any new moves later.
Returning to the fire, you set up makeshift skewers so you can grill all the sliced mushrooms and root that you can. Once everything is done cooking you make plates for Milo and yourself by creating a bed of rice, scooping on the persim curry, and topping it all with the grilled root and mushrooms. Then you set out the rest for the Pokemon, calling everyone over to eat.
Milo and the Pokemon bound over enthusiastically to grab their helpings. Milo beams when you hand him his plate. In your periphery, you notice the Pancham acting shy again. “You didn’t come all this way just to look at others eat did you? Come, join your friends!” It seems like all she needed was permission because she bolted over immediately to eat with the rest of the Pokemon.“This is great!” Milo was shoveling in his dinner, he must have been hungrier than he let on. “I’ve never had such a well-considered meal while camping.”
You smiled at his compliment and took a bite yourself. The grilling helped bring out the sweet and savory elements while the curry had a balancing effect, to the point where you were actually enjoying the bitter profile of the pungent root. Not bad for making something out of completely foraged items!
If it wasn’t for everyone starting to quiet down because their mouths were full, you wouldn’t have heard the faint vibrating in your bag. You look over to Milo, who has his mouth full.
“I’m going to answer my phone, sorry if I take a while.”
He nods, clearly wanting to say something but instead focusing on chewing and swallowing his food as you slip towards your bag by the fire. You sit crossed-legged with your curry in your lap, and fish your phone from out of your pack. There’s a part of you that still wants to ignore it, but you imagine your tantrum has gone on long enough and it’s time to answer. You tentatively tap on your Rotom Phone and watch the video turned on.
It was Leon. This shocked you a bit since the number was from Sonia’s phone. He wasn’t looking at the phone but at something off camera, like he wasn’t really expecting you to pick up. Which, fair.
“Hi.”
You honestly have no idea what else to say.
There’s a couple seconds of pause as Leon’s eyes slowly move towards the screen and presumably to your face.
“Oh my god.” The way he says your name twists your heart with guilt. He looks a bit ragged, but as you look at his surroundings, you can see that he’s indoors somewhere. As he shifts to sit up, you can make out that he’s probably in a hotel room, flopped down in bed with the TV on in the background, some trainer’s battle statistics being read off. He’s in some casual clothes instead of his jersey, but still has on his trusty snapback. “You’re alive, thank Arceus. You’re alive.”
You close your eyes, already feeling a whirlwind of emotions.
“Leon, I-”“I’m sorry. I’m sorry! I’m so, so sorry. This was all my fault, please forgive me. Please. Please, I’m sorry.”
The distress in his voice almost startled you. The sincere desperation on his face is clear and unfiltered. A tremor spills through the palm holding your phone.
“No Leon, no. It was me. I’m the idiot here. I need to be the one apologizing.” Your nose sniffles, and the way your senses prickle tell you that tears will soon be on their way. You probably look miserable, and locking eyes with Leon is just making you feel like you’ve been acting like trash these past few days. “I’m so horrified at my behavior, and how I’ve acted. You must have been so worried.”
“I was, I thought, it would be all my fault if something happened to you.” From the sound of his voice, it sounds like Leon is beating you to the crying. “You didn’t answer, not even to yell at me, or tell me to leave you alone, so I couldn’t stop thinking of the worst.” Now come the tears, he doesn’t even pretend to hide them. This only prompted your own to run down your cheeks. “I can be such a bonehead, and insensitive to others, because I’m wrapped up in my own shit. And if you got hurt because I was being a jerk, I just don’t know what I would have done.”
The both of you trade apologies like this for a few more minutes through quiet sobbing. You’re sure the others could sense your emotion but you couldn’t bring yourself to look over.
“Leon, I promise, I’m okay. I only have a small injury and it’s healing well.”“…What? What happened?”
You recount your encounter with the Seismitoad. Leon cursed, and his golden eyes locked onto you fiercely. “I’m never letting you out of my sight again.”
That sounded rather extra, but for some reason, you didn’t mind. You tried to smile through the ugly crying.
“I was lucky that I was saved by a kind stranger camping out in the Dappled Grove. He’s escorting me to Motostoke, I think I could be there by tomorrow.”
There’s an uncomfortable pause, though you’re not sure why it is.
“Do you… feel safe, you know, with him?” Leon looks dead serious.
“My chastity remains unspoiled, dear knight.”
Leon turns red but maintains his serious demeanor. “I hate that you’re still out there. Maybe if I leave now-”“No, Leon, don’t. I know you probably have important champion stuff to be doing. Don’t waste time on me because I’ve been acting like a brat.”
“Don’t say that about yourself. Well, at least, you’re not a waste of time to me.” He cracks a bit of a smirk for the first time this entire call. “Though yeah you’re a brat for all you’ve put me and Sonia through.”
“I deserve that.” Your hand rubs at your face, trying to clear away some of the tears. “I owe you both a big apology. Letting me camp with you all and then just running off like that.”
“Hey, all that matters is that you’re safe.”
Leon’s attention suddenly shifts away from the phone, and he beckons someone over. Sonia’s face squeezes into frame and she immediately starts crying, which makes you cry all over again too.
“We were so worried about you! God I was terrified thinking of you out there all by yourself.” She managed through her tears. “You’re grounded, under house arrest, in detention. I don’t want you missing ever again! This is what happens when I leave you with Leon.”
“H-hey, I was worried too!” The two bicker some, and you all begin to break down into soft giggles, sniffles, and hiccups.
“I promise not to do this ever again. If you all want to send me back to Postwick though, I don’t blame you, I deserve it.”
“Don’t say things like that. We promised to go on an adventure together remember?”
You smiled, remembering your time in Wedgehurst with Sonia.
“I-I want to come on the adventure too…” Leon was pouting.
“When I get to Motostoke, I owe you both apologies, and explanations.” You look down, dreading it but knowing it’s the right thing to do. “You both have been so kind, and are basically my anchor here.” A yawn escapes from your mouth. “I should be in Motostoke tomorrow, don’t worry about me if you both are busy with things.”
Sonia wrestles her phone from Leon’s grasp. “Just keep us updated, okay? We’re staying in the Budew Hotel, but if you make it in time, you can watch Hop and Gloria participate in the opening ceremony!”
Nodding, you tell yourself that tomorrow has to be a hustle so you can make it in time. “It’s a promise.”
You hear Leon mutter something off to the side which catches Sonia’s attention, making her snicker. “The Great Unbeatable Champion Leon has a request~” She deftly dodges a pillow being thrown at her from off-camera. “And really, me too, because I want him to leave my phone alone: can I pass along your number to Leon?”
It seems like not all of the of the calls and texts you got were from Sonia after all. You nod with a small smile. You’re glad that this seems mostly like water under the bridge, though you are still a bit embarrassed about how silly you’ve been acting.
Shifting a bit, you realize that you’ve barely touched your dinner. “Okay, I’m going to go. I can’t wait to see you two tomorrow!”
Leon nudged into the camera frame as they both gave their goodbyes, and soon the call was over. You couldn’t help but give one long exhale, trying to relieve all the tension you’ve been holding in your body. It wasn’t even seconds after you put your phone away that Wooloo, Yamper, and Pancham ran over and pressed into you.
“Aww you guys. Thank you.” You tried to hug them all at once, and saw Milo coming over, chuckling.
“Sorry, I tried to keep ‘em at bay to give you some space.” He extended his hand to help you up from the Pokemon pile that wiggled on top of you. His grip encircled yours, warm.
You picked up your plate of food and returned to the rest around the fire, sitting next to Milo. Your Wooloo nestled against your side as your other Pokemon began to huddle together for warmth and comfort.
“Apologies for taking so long, didn’t mean to ignore you.” You begin to eat your curry. “How’s dinner?”
“Amazin’, you have a good touch for cookin’! The Pokemon were very pleased.”
“And how about you?”
He blinks a few times. “I m-mean, of course I loved it…”It takes all your strength to not smirk or laugh, to not give away how you said that on purpose just to get a reaction from Milo. “I’m glad, I wanted you to feel how grateful I am that you’re as kind as you are.” You look over to him, and even though the only light is coming from the campfire, it’s not hard to see he’s blushing. “I’ve caused you trouble, and I just want to thank you for all that you’ve done for me.”
Milo stammers out some words that you can’t really understand, but you just smile and continue eating as he works through his awkwardness. Guy has to learn to take a compliment, you know?
“Y-you’re welcome though!!” He eventually spits out, desperately scooping at his empty plate trying to seem like he was concentrating on eating still. You hear the telltale giggling of his Pokemon around him. “You guys, s-stop!”
Cracking a smile, you collect all the dinnerware and head down to the lake to wash everything. The moon is covered by clouds, but some of its light shimmers on the surface of the water. The conversation with Sonia and Leon replays through your mind as you wipe off the remnants of dinner. It was surprising that they didn’t tell you off or make you to go home to Postwick. It showed that you were ready to give up when others believed in you. And you needed to see this through, mainly for your own personal growth, but also to respect the time and energy other put into you.
Returning to camp, you come to an almost domestic scene of all your Pokemon and Pancham just huddled in one cute heap and Milo nearby petting Wooloo with one hand while he checks his phone with the other. Sensing your emotions, your Rotom Phone zips out of your pocket and snaps a picture. The camera shutter sound and your subsequent scolding of Rotom alerts Milo to your presence.
“Thanks for takin’ care of the dishes! I feel spoiled.”
“Good.” You smile, hoping Milo doesn’t bring up the fact that your Rotom creeped on him, and set the plates and such into his tent. “Though I bet you’re ready for me to get out of your hair by now I’m sure.”
“Not at all.” He checks the time on his phone. “But if we’re gonna make it to Motostoke before the openin’ ceremony, we should probably hit the hay soon and get up early.” He stretched and yawned, with Wooloo whining a little from the loss of contact.
The both of you rustle around preparing for bed, Milo inside his tent and you rolling out your sleeping bag by the campfire. You’re about to douse the fire when Milo calls for your attention, his head poking out from his tent.
“You’re sleepin’ outside? Aren’t you chilly out here?” He sounds concerned, which makes you feel something all over.
“I imagine you want your tent back to yourself. Plus I got this big pile of Pokemon to keep me warm.” All of your Pokemon are out except for Vanillite, who returned to their Pokeball after no one wanted to cuddle with below freezing body temperatures, with Pancham taking their place. However you would be lying if a reason you decided to stay outside was out of respect for Milo’s relationship with Nessa.
Milo’s brow is furrowed and it seems like there’s a battle going on in his head. “Okay, only if you’re sure…” He pauses. “I really don’t mind i-if y-you…” His voice trails off and you take it as him trying to be polite.
“Don’t worry, you deserve a night off from babysitting me. I can handle this.” …you think.
He eventually accepts your answer, not one to push, and eventually wishes you good night before slipping back inside his tent. You douse the fire and crawl into your sleeping bag, and the Pokemon promptly huddle into the various nooks your body makes sleeping on your side. Turns out having cuddly Pokemon has its practical benefits too. Your eyes were about to close when you heard your phone buzz.
Rotom apologized noting the timing, but you see a text from an unfamiliar Galarian number, and upon opening the message realize it’s Leon.
Hi its Leon! Just texting you so you have my number
You smile, starting to feel a sense of normalcy after all the events in the Wild Area.
thanks~ looking forward to reuniting tomorrow <3
Moving to slip your phone back into a bag pocket, you pause when it vibrates again. You turn the screen towards you and see Leon has already replied.
I can’t wait I don’t think I’ll be able to sit still until I see you with my own eyes
So much for ‘just’ texting you for saving his number. A part of you admits that you’re a little happy though.
definitely hustling over to Motostoke, planning on waking up early and everything! will you be busy doing things for the ceremony tomorrow?
Your eyes close for only a moment before you get another text from Leon.
Well yes I mean I am the Champion after all ;)
You snort at him capitalizing champion, stirring your Yamper from her sleep for a second before you pet her back into slumber.
Pardon me, your Highness. i come from a land without royalty
Pancham wiggles around in the space behind your knees before breathing out a satisfied sigh.
PLEASE don’t call me that lol sorry I keep forgetting you dont know much about sports
You roll your eyes a bit.
then do enlighten me, Mr. Unbeatable Champion Sir ;)
The screen lights up with an immediate “STOP” text from him, making you giggle. Wooloo bleats a soft noise of concern into your chest, and promptly goes back to sleep when nothing seems wrong.
Nooooo you’re killing me dooooont :( one thing I like about you is that you treat me like a normal human being not like the Champion
You’re not sure if you should read into that text or not.
But anyway I can sneak away whenever Charizard can show me to the city gates. So make sure to text me as you’re arriving and I can meet you!!!! :D
Looks like Charizard is going to be the one guiding you around Motostoke then.
sounds like a plan! see you tomorrow then~
Leon wishes you a good night, and you finally tuck Rotom into your bag. Closing your eyes, you can’t help but think of how normal that felt. Being out in the Wild Area has really pushed you out of your element, a scary place in a strange region. You’ve never really camped before and now you’ve just spent three days in the wilderness. And now that’s you’re recovering from a near-death experience, it’s time to leave the Wild Area for the rest of your days.
Just as you were about to drift off, you heard the unzipping of Milo’s tent, followed by footsteps and the shuffling of some material against fabric. Your eyes open and head turns as the Pokemon resting against your body shift in response to what they are sensing. It’s almost pitch black, but the light from a Rotom Phone shows someone is lying a sleeping bag down near you.
“…Milo…?”
His silhouette pauses before continuing to slide into his sleeping bag.
“Sorry, didn’t mean to wake ya.”
You turn your body so you’re completely facing him. The Pokemon grumble when they are disturbed, and now congregate in-between Milo and yourself, with Wooloo shamelessly pressing into Milo’s chest.
“What are you doing out here?”
“It just didn’t feel right lettin’ you sleep out here all by yourself.”
You’re thankful for the cover of darkness, since you definitely have an embarrassed smile on your face.
“Oh, you don’t have to do this really, I got the Pokemon out here with me.”
“I can leave if it makes ya uncomfortable-”
“No!”
You say a little too quickly and loudly, enough to startle some of your Pokemon.
“I mean… I like that you’re here, and selfishly want you to stay, I just don’t want you inconveniencing yourself on my behalf even more than you already have… Arceus, I’m talking too much.”
You desperately wish you could read his expression through the dark, but you think you hear a light chuckle.
“I want to be here too. Sounds like everythin’s alright then.”
It feels like you should just fall asleep at that, but also, it seems like the right time to chat a little more.
“Looks like Wooloo’s happy. We might have to do joint custody at this rate.”
You can hear Wooloo’s wool being pet, and the Pokemon letting out a pleased sigh.
“He definitely would make all my other Wooloo jealous. I wonder if they’ll play well with him.”
“We’ll have to find out when I visit.”
There’s a few moments of silence, and you yawn a little.
“I’ll miss your company until then.”
Milo seems to shift around in his sleeping bag a bit in response to that.
“…r-really now? Sounds like you have good friends waitin’ for ya…”
You hum a bit as your eyes feel heavier. It’s true, you are about to re-enter the whirlwind that is Leon and Sonia. But there is something about this man in front of you that makes you feel a different way. You can’t quite put your finger on it, but that’s why you wish you could spend more time with him.
“Yeah but I want to spend more time with you.”
Your thoughts are getting a bit hazy and running into your words as physical and emotional exhaustion begin to overtake you.
“You make me… feel different…”
If Milo responded, you’ve fallen too deep into sleep to hear it.

Episode 1, Treble in Cantor
It was a clear night. The stars were bright overhead, the moon was a sliver in the sky, and the sea spray misted over her face. The song of the ocean mixed with the roar of the fire, creating a peaceful lullaby for the night. Behind her, Cormac was stoking the fire, adding a little more warmth to the air. It was a beautiful night, the kind of beauty that she had spent her whole life enjoying. She wouldn't say that it ever got old, but lately an idea had been floating in her mind more and more.
"Hey Cor?" She looked over her shoulder where Cormac was still poking at the fire. His Corsola was sitting on his shoulder and the Pokemon looked at her before he did. She smiled. Her own Corsola was wading in the water not too far off.
She waited for his pink eyes, so very similar to her own, to glance her way. His white hair danced in the breeze and a few of the hibiscus blooms she'd placed in his hair were being blown away. She'd have to be more careful next time; it was uncommonly sloppy work for her. "What's up Orchid?"
She looked up at the sky again, stretching her arms out over her head as she weighed her words one last time. "What do you think about leaving here?"
"Leaving?" He sounded more confused than upset, so she chanced a glance at him. He was studying her, as if he'd be able to read her intentions out of the air. They had been friends for nearly all their lives, but he still had no idea what she was thinking when she didn't want him to. "What do you mean?"
"I mean..." she hesitated as she walked closer to him, holding out her arm so that Corsola could jump from his shoulder to hers. "Going on a journey. Across the whole region like other trainers do."
"You... want to?"
The surprise made it hard for her to properly gauge his reaction. She plopped down on the log beside him, facing the opposite way and leaning her head against his shoulder. "Yeah, I think I do. I don't want to go without you, though. It wouldn't be as much fun."
"You just want someone around to cook for you," he grumbled.
She giggled and nuzzled her head against him. She was probably ruffling the flower in her own hair, but she didn't much care about that. "That's not so bad, right? What would Dora do without you? Do you want her to starve?"
He leaned his head on top of hers. "She's not the only one that would be lost without me so I guess I have no choice."
Her smile widened and she couldn't help the burst of excited laughter she let out. "You mean it?"
"Yeah. Kora would be sad if I let you go alone anyway," he told her.
She wrapped her arms around him and squeezed as tight as she could. "You're the best, Cor."
"I kinda am the best, aren't I?" he shot back.
She shoved him and stuck out her tongue at him. "You'd cry if I left you behind anyway. This is for your own good."
"Yeah, alright. Whatever you say, Orchid."
She looked out at the sea where her Corsola, Dora, was making her way out of the water. She scooped the Pokemon up into her arms and spun on her heel in the sand, wisps of her pink hair falling into her face. "We're going on an adventure, Dora! Aren't you excited?"
The Pokemon made excited noises, along with Cormac's Corsola on her shoulder. Cormac watched as the three of them celebrated and she could tell that he was just as excited as she was, even if he was more subdued in showing it.
-------------------------
Cantor City was  only a few hours journey from their sleepy beach town. Cormac barely saw any of it when they first arrived, following Orchid to a hotel where they could stay for the night. They spent a long time chatting excitedly from their opposite beds until she fell asleep, leaving him to watch the city from their window.
Honestly, there wasn’t much of a view. It was too late for the city to be too active and their room wasn’t high enough to see above the cityscape, but it was enough. His whole life he’d been able to look out his window to sand and sea, and now for the first time he was seeing something different.
Cormac thought he should feel something… bigger. He didn’t feel out of place or homesick at all, though. He just felt at peace. He was pretty sure that he could go anywhere as long as he had Orchid and his Corsola by his side. He could have stayed forever in his small town and never wonder what he was missing, and now he could explore forever with them and never think about going back.
With that thought drifting through his mind, he decided to go to bed.
Cormac was woken abruptly by something shaking his bed. He was startled upright, only to be immediately captured in Orchid's arms. That solved the mystery of what had woken him up before he'd had time to question it.
"Let's go watch the gym battles!" She squealed, bouncing slightly in her excitement.
"What?" He blinked a few times, trying to wake himself up while Orchid gently shook him.
"We've never seen one in person! Let's go!" She repeated excitedly. Her expression was bright, pink eyes shining with excitement and her hair already pinned up with a flower. Sometimes it amazed him how quick and early Orchid was able to wake up. Cormac could wake up early when he needed to, but it seemed like Orchid simply never slept.
"This couldn't have waited?" he asked.
"Who would want to?" she asked. "Aren't you excited?"
He wasn't sure if he was more excited than he was tired, but he nodded at her anyway. "Yeah, alright, I'll get up."
"Yay!" she cheered as she tossed the covers off of him and sprung off the bed. She scooped up Kora and Dora where they were sleeping on the table. He let himself fall back onto the bed with a yawn.
"Time to get up," he said sleepily to himself.
An hour later, after they were both dressed and fed, Orchid was leading him around the town. Both Kora and Dora were sitting on her shoulders, chatting happily as she led him by the hand and commented on everything. Cormac was torn between watching their excitement and the town around them.
There was a band of people playing music with their Pokemon in the town square and a few onlookers dancing. There were stall shops shouting for attention to their wares, selling souvenirs, food, and merchandise advertising the gym. There were people lounging about near the town well, a sea of calm amid the excited energy everywhere else. He could see a few buildings in the distance; a daycare, a Pokemon center, a pokemart, and their destination; the Pokemon gym.
"Something catch your eye?" Orchid was watching him over her shoulder. Kora and Dora tapping on her shoulder to tell her if she needed to move to one side or the other to avoid something in her path. The sight of three of them so close always made him feel warm inside. He squeezed her hand, reminding himself that he was just as much a part of this bubble of intimacy.
"Only everything," he answered. "How are you able to be so single minded?"
"I was watching everything out the window early, so I took in a lot of the splendor already." Her eyes wandered over her surroundings briefly before returning to him. "Plus, we have plenty of time to look through everything later. Right?"
"Yeah, I guess you're right."
The gym was wider than it was tall, with statues of electric Pokemon standing on top of each other framing the double doors. There was one person standing at the door that stopped them when they approached. "Challenger or spectator?"
"Spectator," Orchid answered.
He pointed to the side of the building. "Enter where you see the Jolteon statue."
"Thanks." They walked to the side of the building and she dropped his hand to push open the large double doors. "Wow."
The inside looked a bit more like a concert hall than a Pokemon gym. There were rows of elevated seating all around the room and a large stage in the center. The room was reasonably crowded and it took them a bit to find two empty seats in the highest rows. There were Magnemites floating around the room using Light Screen and Barrier to wall off the audience from stray attacks and the other trainers on the side of the stage were fiddling with instruments.
"Do you think the gym leader has their own theme song?" Orchid asked. "How cool would that be?"
"Pretty cool," he answered. Now that he was here, his eyes were glued to the stage. The challenger was already there, dressed in dark clothing and floating his pokeballs in the air. "Really cool."
Then the music hit. Two mohawked girls on drum and guitar started a heavy beat while a guy with spiked hair growled into the mic. The vocals were purposefully low, blending well into the music as the gym leader marched out and onto the stage. She was dressed in bright electric blue, with short dark blue hair cut sharply over her shoulders, and oval shaped sunglasses covering her eyes. There were gloves on her hands and black and blue stocking completely covering her legs. She flipped her hair and sparks shot up from the stage.
"Let's get this battle started already!" she said, tossing a pokeball into the air.
The challenger plucked one of his own balls out of the air. "Let's."
The announcer's voice erupted around them. "This will be a 3 on 3 battle. Whoever knocks out all three of their opponent’s Pokemon wins. Challenger Graham versus Leader Ahu! Begin!"
They threw out their Pokemon at the same time. The gym leader started with a Jolteon, the spiky Pokemon crouching low and letting out a hiss. The challenger sent his Pokeball spinning, sending his Girafarig into battle, the giraffe Pokemon scraping his hoof against the ground.
Beside him, Orchid was flipping open her Pokedex. "I've never seen that tall thing before, have you?"
Cormac shook his head. "I don't think it's very common around here."
Orchid giggled as she turned to him. "Can you imagine seeing that thing on the beach? It's got two heads!"
He laughed with her, but his eyes were quickly drawn back toward the stage.
“Show him what we’re made of, Jolteon!” The Gym Leader said, striking a pose and pointing at their opponent.
The Jolteon immediately launched into a Quick Attack, slamming into Girafarig's side and shoving it back. Girafarif’s hooves dragged along the ground, but it stayed on its feet.. Jolteon retreated just as Girafarig used Stomp, its spiky fur standing on end as it hissed at its opponent. Electricity danced along its fur for a moment and then a wave of thunder washed over the battlefield. Girafarig stumbled, a flash of static arced along its skin and brought it down to one knee.
The Gym Leader laughed, placing both hands on her hips as she smiled at her opponent. “There’s no shame in throwing in the towel, you know.”
“This battle has only begun,” Graham replied.
“Well, can’t say I didn’t try,” Ahu shrugged.
Girafarig glared ahead, but as soon as it tried to move a wave of static flickered through its body. Jolteon rushed at the paralyzed Pokemon, hitting it with Double Kick and knocking Girafarig on its side, back to Jolteon. The Pokemon made a small noise of pain, static still dancing along its spine.
“Hugo!” Graham called out, fist clenching at his side as he watched his pokemon.
Jolteon rushed forward at the fallen pokemon, only for Girafarig’s tail to jump up and snap at Jolteon, startling the pokemon with Astonish and causing it to flinch. Girafarig took the opportunity to get to its feet, eyes glowing as a rainbow of psychic energy blasted Jolteon. The Psybeam caused Jolteon to stumble, the pokemon trying and failing to shake off its sudden confusion.
Girafarig took advantage of Jolteon’s confusion to charge across the stage, slamming intoJolteon with a Zen Headbutt. The Pokemon was tossed across the stage, making pained sounds as it struggled to get to its feet. It shook its head desperately, trying to break itself out of confusion and failing. Girafarig galloped toward Jolteon, rearing up and stomping down on it with both hooves. Jolteon gasped, tried once more to get to its feet, and failed.
"Jolteon is unable to continue!" The announcer called.
The person on Cormac's right jumped up from his seat as he cheered. Orchid wrapped her arm around his, leaning closer to be heard over the crowd.
"Aren't you so glad we came?" Orchid asked. "This is so much cooler than on tv."
"Yeah, I can't believe it's this intense already," he answered. Kora jumped from Orchid's shoulder into his lap and he wrapped the Pokemon in his arms.
"Heh, don't think this is over yet," Ahu said coolly. "That was just beginners luck."
"I'm no beginner," Graham responded.
"Yeah, we'll see about that." She tossed out her next Pokemon. "Show him what we're about, Pachirisu!" The small squirrel let out a cry, its tail flicking behind him.
Girafarig lowered its head for another Zen Headbutt, but the squirrel Pokemon stared up at it cutely. Girafarig slowed down severely, apparently caught up in Pachirisu’s Charm attack, only lightly running into the smaller Pokemon. Pachirisu then rocketed back and forth across the field with Quick Attack as its tail began to glow.
“Hugo, watch out!” Graham called out, but it was too late. Pachirisu leapt into the air, swinging its tail and firing an Electro Ball, which scored a direct hit to the Girafarig.
Ahu flicked her hair over her shoulder as Graham recalled his Pokemon.
"Girafarig is unable to fight. The contestants are now tied one to one."
"Get him, Ahu!"
"Show that newby who's boss!"
The crowd was very excited and the music was only serving to hype them all up. Even on stage, the gym leader was tapping her foot to the song being played by the band. Cormac felt a little bad for the challenger. It couldn't be easy to have an entire stage against you.
"Do your best, Graham!" Orchid yelled out from beside him. It seemed they were on the same page again, but as always she was much more up front about it. A few people echoed her calls and she looked over at him with a smile. "I'd hate to see him get discouraged," she said.
"Every crowd should have someone like you in it, Or."
She smiled, sticking out her tongue at him. "Don't tease me, Cor."
Graham sent out an Alolan Raichu. "You can do it, Raichu," he said as he glared at Ahu.
Raichu charged at the Pachirisu. The squirrel Pokemon dodged and began to roll along the ground cutely, intending to charm it into letting down its guard. Instead, Raichu used Double Team, surrounding Pachirisu with clones of itself. Pachirisu looked around in surprise as Raichu approached, trying to dodge as one of the images surged forward only for the real Raichu to slam its tail into Pachirisu from behind.
Pachirisu glared as it picked itself up from the ground. It jumped to its feet and ran at Raichu for a quick attack, only for Raichu to dodge out of the way. Raichu’s eyes began to glow and Pachirisu was lifted into the air, flailing as it went. Raichu lifted its opponent high into the air before whipping its tail at Pachirisu, slamming it down to the ground.
“Don’t let them win so easily, Pachirisu!” The gym leader yelled.
Pachirisu gingerly picked itself off the ground. It ran in a tight circle before whipping its tail, causing stars to explode from the appendage and rush at Raichu.
“It used Swift!” Cormac exclaimed. He looked over at Orchid, who turned to smile at his excitement.
“That’s gonna be bad for Raichu then,” she said. “Think Pachirisu will make a comeback with this?”
“I don’t know. It’s taken a lot of damage,” he told her. The battle seemed really close though. He had to admit, he was rather glad that she’d dragged him out of bed for this.
Raichu ran quickly around the stage, trying to avoid the white stars tailing it. It dodged one, then two, but the stars simply changed course so that they could all converge on it at once. There was a bright light as the attack made impact and Raichu was knocked off its feet. Raichu rolled over to face Pachirisu, but didn’t get to its feet. Electricity began to dance across its fur before it released a powerful thunderbolt which hit Pachirisu hard. The Pokemon swayed a few times before falling to the side. It didn’t get back up.
"Pachirisu is unable to fight! Ahu is on her last Pokemon."
"Yeah!" Orchid yelled, clapping her hands at Graham's victory. The crowd seemed to be split now, a few worried murmurs mixed in with the supporting cheers. A lot of people were on their feet, the excitement building the longer the match went on.
The music changed, the vocals and guitar fading out as the drum beat picked up. Ahu grinned widely as she chose her last Pokemon and tossed the ball into the air. "Alright, you've earned the right to see my best Pokemon. Let's kick it up, shall we?"
The vocals became louder as the singer joined in again, followed by a long guitar riff. The music became more intense and faster paced. The crowd began cheering along with the song and it was clear that many of them knew the song well.
Orchid was watching the stage with the same excited intensity as the rest of the crowd, her head nodding to the new beat as she got used to it. Cormac found himself leaning forward in his seat, too, eagerly awaiting the rest of the battle.
Ahu sent out Luxray, the Pokemon locking eyes with Raichu and strutting back and forth across the stage. Raichu's eyes were glued to the Pokemon until it suddenly became dizzy and started swaying in place.
"Ah!" Orchid gasped softly beside him. "He's confused!"
"It used Swagger," Cormac said softly. The move definitely suited the trainer, so it was no surprise to see her stronger Pokemon start with it.
"No need to play with it, Luxray," Ahu said. "Put him out of his misery."
Luxray pounced forward and used Crunch, taking the Raichu between its fangs and chomping down on it.
"Raichu is unable to fight. Opponents are two for two."
"Flawless, Luxray," Ahu praised.
Her Pokemon stretched and preened, waiting patiently for its next opponent.
"They really put on a good show," Orchid said. "If I lived here, I'd be out to watch battles all the time."
"Yeah, they really go all out," Cormac agreed. "No wonder this place seemed so lively."
On stage, Graham recalled Raichu and floated another ball into his hand. "It's not over till it's over."
"Trust me, it's over," Ahu told him.
Graham sent out Reuniclus, the Pokemon floating before him happily.
"Give him a strut, Luxray," Ahu says, gesturing him forward. Luxray attempted to use Swagger once more, as Reuniclus raised its hands, generating a white orb of light and firing it at Luxray. The orb engulfed Luxray as it mechanically repeated the same motions.
"Great strategy," Ahu says. "That's really working out for you, I see."
Graham glared at her before turning to his Pokemon. "Come on, Blake! Snap out of it! Use Shadow Ball!"
Finally, Reuniclus shook itself and fired a shadow ball.  Luxray narrowly dodged the blast, but its eyes were glowing and it was forced back into its former strut.
"Psychic!" Graham orders.
Reuniclus raised its hands and Luxray was lifted off of its feet and slammed into the ground repeatedly. Luxray struggled to its feet, growling as it glowers at its opponent, small sparks jumping along its fur.
Ahu points at Reuniclus as she yells out, "Discharge, Luxray!"
Luxray howls and lets out a powerful electric charge, hitting Reuniclus full force. It dropped closer to the ground, visibly damaged but still  fit to fight. Then Luxray charges forward and lands a crunch, causing Reuniclus to fall all the way to the ground.
"Done and done," Ahu says. "Good job, Luxray." The Pokemon begins walking back to its trainer side.
"Not yet!" Graham said. "We're almost there, Blake! I know you can do it!"
Slowly, the Reuniclus is able to force itself off the ground enough to aim a focus blast.
"Luxray!" The Pokemon barely has enough time to turn before the force slams into it and tosses it across the stage. It slides to a halt at Ahu's feet. Her mouth opens in shock before she looks down at her Pokemon. Luxray doesn't get to its feet.
"Luxray is unable to continue! The winner of this battle and the Zap Badge goes to the Challenger, Graham!"
The crowd explodes in noise. Cormac is jostled into reality as Orchid throws her arm around him. "He did it! Did you see that? I thought the Gym Leader would win for sure!"
The music had come to a slow end and Ahu reclaimed her Pokemon. He couldn't hear what was said as the Gym Leader crossed the stage to give the challenger his badge. They must have turned their mics off, now that the battle was done.
Cormac slumped in Orchid's embrace. "That was crazy. I felt as tense as if I was the one battling."
"Wasn't it great?" she asked. "We have to watch more gym battles in person!"
"I don't know how Gym Leaders do it," he said. "I'd be exhausted if I had to do that all the time."
"Some people are just made for the stage," Orchid replied.
"Yeah." Cormac was still watching the stage though. The Gym Leader still had her eyes covered, so it was hard to tell what she was feeling, but she didn't leave the stage with the same energy that she had entered it.
Ahu hated the noise. The crowd became a near endless cacophony as she crossed the stage. She couldn’t tell if they were cheering for her or complaining about her loss, but she held her head up high as she left the room. She felt chased by the noise and tried not to show it.  The heavy door slammed behind her. She ripped the glasses off of her face and tossed them to the ground as she let out a frustrated growl.
"That is unbecoming." Ahu jerked at the voice, turning to see one of the older gym trainers watching her. He had worked under her father and was hard set on upholding the traditions that were in place during his time. She tensed as he approached her, already annoyed at the lecture she knew was coming. He crossed his arms, looking down his nose at her as he began. "You need to learn how to take your losses more gracefully or be strong enough to win more often."
"I don't need this from you," she said as she walked past him. She only got a few steps away before he grabbed her arm.
"Wherever you think you're going, the gym's Pokemon aren't going with you.”
She shook him off, stomping over to the table and slamming the pokeballs onto it. She reached down to pick up her sunglasses on her way out. "Simsek, you coming with?"
There was an excited cry as a shinx came running toward her and she caught it in her arms with a smile. It was the only Pokemon in this gym that she could call her own and she never went anywhere without it, if she could help it.
"What about the other battles?" He asked.
"Do them yourself," she said before she hurried off. She looked over her shoulder at him before she walked out the door. "Jerk."
-----------------
The Pokemon center was as lively as the rest of town. There was a Chansey trying to sing to a group of trainers, though it seemed not to be working, and Nurse Joy was bustling busily around the room. Chingling landed on his head and brought his focus back to the screen in front of him as he huddled further into the corner and held up the Zap Badge.
"I got the badge," Graham said with a small smile, equal parts excited and nervous. "Thanks for lending me Raichu."
The Alolan Raichu waved at him from his sister's shoulder. "Wow! Good job!" She cheered, offering him a few claps. "Are you really sure you want to send him back though?"
Graham scratched the back of head nervously. "He should be home with you guys more."
"That can't be the only reason," His sister frowned.
"I also..." He looked away from her. "I want to do this on my own."
"What? But you are!"
Graham folded his arms and flipped his dyed purple bangs out of his face. "I didn't raise Raichu, you guys did that. It wouldn't be fair for me to keep going this way."
She pouted and glared at him.
"Soon, Chingling will be ready for battle and then we'll go all the way to the top. Right?" He looked to where his young Pokemon was floating and it answered him enthusiastically.
She smiled at him then. "Alright. You two take care of each other, you hear? I'll tell mom and dad that you called."
"Alright. Talk to you later, sis."
The screen shut off and he let out a deep sigh. This was going to be a long journey.
-------------------
"Oh! Oh! Cormac, look!" Orchid said excitedly, grabbing him by the shoulders and turning him around.
"Alright, what am I looking at?" he asked with a smile. His eyes quickly scanned the area around them, but everything was so busy that he couldn’t possibly tell what Orchid was looking at. She had been energetic since the gym battle and it was easy to get swept up in her energy.
"It's the challenger!" She answered, bouncing in her excitement, hands still on his shoulders. "We should congratulate him!"
She began to push him forward and he didn't bother trying to resist. "Oh? Sure you don't just want his autograph?"
"Well if you insist, I can get one for you," she said in a sing song. "But you should really get used to asking for what you want directly."
Cormac couldn't help but laugh.
The man didn't seem to notice their approach, so Cormac was able to get a better look at him. It was hard to make out the finer details when he had been so far away. His hair was black with purple dyed bangs hiding the right side of his face. His clothes, a mix of black and purple with the occasional gold accent, seemed much more formal than Cormac was used to. He'd lived his entire life on a beach though, so he wasn't an expert in fashion. Still, the outfit looked loose and unrestrictive and there were enough details to get lost in.
The man turned toward them just as they got close, his purple eyes widening a bit in surprise.
"Hey!" Orchid greeted over his shoulder. "We saw your gym battle. Congratulations on pulling off the win."
The man stared at them until the Chingling hovering beside him landed on his head, seeming to pull him out of his stupor. "Uh, thank you."
"It was a really good match," Cormac added. "You and Pokemon really did your best out there."
"Uh, yeah..." He looked away and shoved his hands in his pockets. "Well, they did all the work..." he replied quietly.
Orchid rushed forward, bouncing in place as she looked at the Pokemon on his head. "Aww, you have a Chingling too! It's so cute!"
"Chingling!" The Pokemon floated down to Orchid's height and she immediately pulled the Pokemon into a hug.
"You have a lot of psychic types. Are they your favorite type?" Cormac asked.
"I, um... feel a kinship with them..." Graham answered.
"Oh, I know what you mean," Orchid said brightly. "I've been around water types my whole life, so I feel really connected to them. I'm Orchid by the way. And this," she nodded to the Corsola on her shoulder, "Is Dora."
"Oh, I'm Graham. It's nice to meet you. And that's Poe."
She turned and gestured to Cormac. "And over here we have Cormac and Kora!"
He waved as Kora gave her own greeting. "I hope we're not interrupting anything."
"No, I wasn't doing anything," Graham told them.
"Oh, did you want to?" Orchid asked. "It's our first day in the city and we haven't done anything but watch the gym battle so far. What about you?"
"I haven't really..."
Orchid held the Chingling up to her face. "What do you say? Would you like to come with us, Poe?"
"Chingling!"
"One vote yes!" She smiled at Graham as she moved closer to him. "Would you like to come with us? You don't have to, but it's more fun to explore together." She looked over her shoulder at Cormac as she asked, "Right?"
"Right," he nodded. "I wouldn't mind getting something to eat."
"There was a Pokemon band," Orchid said, turning to him. "Do you think they're still playing?"
"They might be."
She looped her arm with Graham's and smiled at him. "Do you like music? I think I remember there being Spinda. I would love to dance with a Spinda!"
Cormac couldn't help but laugh as he watched Orchid pulling Graham along. It was always fun to watch others being swept up in his friend's current. "What do you say, Kora? Should we save him or let him be?"
The Corsola joined his laughter, so Cormac stayed a few steps behind them as Orchid guided them toward the band, chatting away excitedly.
-----------------
Elaria was in her kitchen when she heard her door burst open. She jumped, nearly dropping the jar she was holding, fumbling to catch it before turning her gaze to Ralts. The Pokemon smiled at her and she sighed, letting her worry evaporate. If Ralts wasn't worried, there was no reason for her to be.
It was only a moment later, following the slam of her front door again, that she heard her best friend's frustrated voice. "I hate my gym!" Ahu yelled in place of an actual greeting as she stomped through Elaria's home looking for her.
Elaria put down the jar and pushed her work to the side, bottles and jars of gels and herbs moved safely to the back of her counter, replacing them with a teapot as she began to make a pot for her guest. "I'm in the kitchen, Ahu!" She called out, rather than allowing her friend to continue her search.
She could hear her friend practically sprint through the hall to reach the kitchen, slamming her hand against the wall as soon as she entered. "I hate my gym!" she repeated loudly.
"I heard you the first time," Elaria said. She placed a plate of cookies on the table for her. "What happened?"
Ahu let out a frustrated breath as her Shinx jumped up on the table and helped itself to a cookie. She took off her glasses as she sank into the chair beside her Pokemon, letting Elaria see the tired look in her eyes. Ralts climbed into a chair, onto the table, to put her hand on Ahu's head. Ahu let out a sad huff of a laugh and smiled at Ralts. "Elaria, your Ralts is so sweet."
Elaria went about pouring the tea and adding sugar to the tray before taking it to the table. "You look tired."
"I am tired," Ahu answered. "Every single battle is so over the top, I hate it. I have to stand there listening to my audience cheer for my loss while pretending to like the loud music and the stage lights, and then backstage my own coworkers tell me that I should be better and to stop losing. As if I lose every battle I've ever been in!"
Elaria pushed a tea cup toward her and Ahu pulled it close to her before dropping in a bit of honey. "I'm sorry to hear that, Ahu. I can't imagine how exhausting that must be."
"It's so frustrating! I wish I could punch every single one of them in the face!"
"I'm not sure that would help."
"I won't know until I try." She took a long sip from her tea cup, draining half the cup with one sip. "I'm gonna steal one of the guitar's and hit my father's assistant with it."
Elaria hummed and nodded as she sipped her own tea. Ahu always felt better after she got her aggressive energy out. It was usually better to wait her out.
"I'm gonna fist fight the next trainer that tries to challenge me. Pokemon and all."
Elaria reached out to pet Shinx, who practically purred under her attention. Ahu took really good care of her Shinx and it was always so happy whenever she saw it.
Ahu jumped up out of her seat, nearly knocking the chair over. "I'm gonna scream!"
"You already are, Ahu."
There was a pause before Ahu dropped back into her chair and pulled her teacup close. She was blushing as she held the cup up with both hands, hiding her face. "Sorry, I got carried away."
Elaria smiled at her. "I think you need to blow off some steam. Without fighting," she added before her friend could comment. Ahu looked away and lifted her teacup again to hide her face. "After tea, you can come with me to the daycare and play with the baby Pokemon. Sound good?"
Ahu nodded, the teacup still pressed against her lips despite not drinking it.
"Good. I'm going to clean up real quick and you can finish the tea."
"What? All of it?" Ahu asked with wide eyes.
"It's supposed to have a calming effect," Elaria told her as she rose from her seat. "So don't rush."
Ahu dropped her head to the table. Elaria giggled as she returned to the counter.
----
"So what do you like to eat?" Orchid asked. Cormac had watched the space between her and Graham grow quickly but subtly, startling with him hunching his shoulders the longer they walked and ending with Orchid unhooking their arms and walking backwards in front of him. Dora had made herself comfortable on Orchid's head and was chatting with Chingling floating in front of them. Graham had relaxed a little when Orchid let go of him, but Cormac suspected that the only reason he hadn't tried to leave was Chingling's chatting and Cormac walking somewhat behind him.
"I like sweet things," Graham answered quietly.
"You hear that, Cormac? He's one of us!" Orchid said excitedly.
The town was as lively as the first time they walked through and Orchid was a whirlwind. She gestured happily at stalls selling pretty trinkets or hummed along when they passed Pokemon singing. She and Chingling harmonized together a few times, which culminated in her scooping the Pokemon in her arms again and spinning around.
"Is she always this energetic?" Graham asked as they watched her.
"Yeah, pretty much," he answered. "You get used to it though."
"I can't imagine getting used to that," he admitted.
Cormac laughed. "I felt that way when we first met. There's something nice about having that much positivity around though."
Orchid paused in the midst of her spinning and waved at them, Corsola and Chingling waving along with her. Cormac waved back.
"Don't you ever get tired?" Graham asked.
"Yeah, of course I do." He turned to catch Graham's eye. "She can turn it off, you know."
Graham didn't look like he believed Cormac at all. He wasn't surprised though. When Orchid was in high energy mode, she could be a lot to deal with.
They caught up with her in a few more steps and she released Chingling, which went to rest on its trainer's head. "What are you guys in the mood for?" she asked, turning to point at a few specific stalls. "That stall sells Pecha Pie, those tarts are made from watmel berries, and I think those..." she drew out the sound as she squinted. "Oh! They have fruit kabobs!"
"I wouldn't mind one of those," he said.
"What would you like, Graham?"
"Um... I like the watmel berries," he answered.
"Great!" She reached out for his hand, but pulled back at the last moment. She blushed when she saw Graham watching, ducking her head and sticking out her tongue. "Sorry, I'll go get them myself," she said hurriedly and rushed off.
"What was that about?" Graham asked. The look of confusion on his face was so cute Cormac had to stifle a laugh.
"Isn't it obvious?" he asked. He started walking in the direction that Orchid headed, slowly so that Graham was encouraged to follow him. "She was gonna take your hand."
"Why?"
"Because she's excited and wanted to spend time with you," Cormac answered. "Haven't you ever held hands before?"
Graham didn't answer that, but the puzzled look remained on his face until Orchid came back to them. She had three fruit kabobs in one hand, one with just Watmel berries, and a Pecha pie in the other hand. She shifted the ones in her hand so that Graham's was in front as she held it out to him. "Here you go."
Graham actually smiled as he accepted it. "Thank you."
"And I got this so that we could share it later," she gestured to the pie.
Cormac took the pie in his hand as he leaned forward to steal a fruit from one of the kabobs.
"Hey! That could have been mine," she objected.
"If it was, then yours was tasty," he answered.
"Rude!" She blew a raspberry at him then laughed as she held the kabob out further. "I guess if you're going to hold the pie, then I can hold this."
Graham seemed perplexed as he watched them, but he ate his berries with a contented expression on his face.
---------------------
Ahu was only slightly calmer by the time Elaria left her house. The exercise seemed to keep her calm and Ralts held her hand while they walked to keep her from taking off in a sprint. Ahu did that sometimes when she was especially restless, running ahead only to circle back for Elaria. Shinx was walking by her side and Elaria smiled down at the Pokemon for keeping her company.
"Hey, was there something going on at the daycare?" Ahu asked suddenly.
Elaria looked up at her. "No, why?"
Ahu pointed ahead of them and Elaria gasped as she saw a swarm of Beedrill around the building. "What on earth!"
Ahu dropped Ralts's hand and took off in a sprint. "I'll see what's going on there!" She said, Shinx rushing forward to run at his trainer's side.
"Wait! Ahu!" Elaria called. She bent down to scoop Ralts into her arms before running off after her friend, knowing she'd be nowhere near fast enough to catch up to her. "I wish she wouldn't rush ahead without thinking,” Elaria said softly to herself. “She only has Shinx with her right now."
------------
"Hey! What's going on here!" Ahu yelled as she approached the daycare. Several Beedrill turned to look at her as Shinx leapt forward in front of her, growling as its fur sparked. She hated bugs and this was a nightmare situation for her, but she’d rarely been afraid of things that she wasn’t willing to fight.
The door to the daycare was ajar and after a moment a girl poked her head out. She had fluffy black hair beneath a bright yellow cap, a hair pin shaped like a button with two flowers attached, and bright red eyes. "Oh? Do you work here?" She took a step outside the doorway, revealing a matching yellow jacket over a white shirt, black shorts, ripped black stocking, and black yellow platforms.
"Wow, that outfit is cute," Ahu said without thinking.
The girl perked up instantly, standing on one foot and spreading her arms to show off the outfit. "Isn't it, just? I think it's super cute."
"Yeah, it looks really good on you."
"Aww, thanks! That really makes my day." The girl blushed slightly with the compliment.
Ahu's distraction didn't last long though. It was hard to ignore the swarm of Beedrill that was slowly closing in around her. "So hey, what are you doing here?"
"O-oh just..." The girl looked around for a moment, as if an explanation would fall out of the sky before she turned and ran back into the daycare, shutting the door.
"What the hell!" Ahu yelled, rushing to the door and banging on it. She turned the knob a few times, unsurprised to find it locked, before banging on the door again. "Get back out here!"
"Sorry, I can't hear you!" The yell was muffled by the door, but Ahu could still hear it loud and clear.
She began banging twice as hard on the door. "Am I a joke to you!" She screamed.
"Hey!" A male voice called from her left. She turned her head to see a guy dressed similarly to the girl. He was pale and blonde, with yellow eyes and his arms crossed over a black and yellow top. He had a similar hat and button pin to the girl, but his hat was brown and his flowers red. His pants were black with scant yellow accents and similar boots. Though all in all, Ahu thought the girl's outfit was much cuter. "Fury Attack."
At once, all the Beedrill turned toward her. "Oh fuck."
Graham wasn't sure what to do with himself. It was only midday and yet the hours had already been filled to bursting. He'd gotten his third gym badge and been dragged halfway around the town of Cantor by two strangers. Instead of feeling utterly exhausted though, he felt... kinda happy. It was fun and confusing and exciting, and he wasn't really sure why it had happened.
He'd watched Orchid dancing with his Pokemon and she hadn't gotten upset when he refused to dance with her. He'd talked to Cormac and wasn't called out for being too quiet or called boring. They'd bought him food and asked his opinions and it was... not something he was used to.
"Here, Graham." Orchid smiled at him as she held out a napkin with a slice of the pecha pie she'd bought earlier. After she had dragged Cormac into dancing with her and they'd both tired themselves, she'd pointed to a quiet spot near the town well. They'd settled there to rest, the two Corsola and his Chingling laying beside them as they passed out pie.
“Thanks," he said quietly. Neither of them seemed to mind how quiet he was, smiling just as brightly at him as they did at each other. It was nice. It was strange.
He didn't feel left out when they talked to each other instead of him and they always left him opening to join in, or else asked him something to pull him into the conversation. Not that it always worked. He wasn't used to having such energetic people around him and all the attention was still a little draining.
Leaning against the well with a slice of pie was nice though. It was good. He could close his eyes for a few moments and just... breathe. The stress of the battle, which he had anticipated for days prior, finally started to drain out of him. And the pie, when he tasted it, was delicious and sweet.
Halfway through his pie there was a bright flash of light in the sky.
"Whoa! What was that?" Cormac asked.
"It looked like lightning," Orchid said. "Probably a Pokemon battle."
Graham frowned. "That was a pretty big bolt."
Cormac got to his feet and his Corsola was quick to jump up his arm and to his shoulder. "Do you think someone's in trouble?"
"Hard to say from here," Orchid said. She turned to Graham. "Do you mind if we go check?"
"I don't mind," he said quickly. "If someone's in trouble, we should help."
Orchid smiled at him. She quickly wrapped up the remains of their pie, carrying both it and her Corsola. Cormac took off at a run and she waited to make sure he was following before sprinting off herself. Graham found himself keeping pace with her as he ran, feeling something warm settling over him despite the urgency.
They slowed down as they reached the Pokemon Center, where there was a rush of Chansey pushing stretchers through the door.
There was a girl with cyan hair running along one of the stretchers, tears in her blue eyes as she babbled to the Nurse Joy beside her. Graham stopped in his tracks as he recognized Cantor's gym leader Ahu on the stretcher, bruised and breathing heavily.
Graham didn't even think about it as he followed the group into the Pokemon Center. After exchanging a few more words, Nurse Joy followed the stretcher with the injured Gym Leader to the back, leaving the distressed girl behind.
"Hey, are you okay?" Cormac asked, placing a hand on the girl's shoulder. Graham hadn't even noticed his new companions entering beside him and found himself glancing around until he saw Orchid, too.
The girl looked beautiful and delicate, her hair pinned up with a lacy veil hanging down past her shoulders and delicate blue flower ornaments. She was wearing a white dress, the skirt of which unfolded like a flower, a light blue sash around her waist and darker blue shoes on her feet. There were tears in her blue eyes and Graham felt stunned as he looked at her.
"It's terrible, someone attacked the daycare. My friend she... she was trying to help but..."
"That was the Gym Leader, right?" Graham asked.
The girl nodded. "Yes, my friend Ahu. She'd left the gym Pokemon behind though, so it was just her and her Shinx. They were outnumbered."
"Why would someone attack the daycare?" Orchid asked.
"They stole the Pokemon eggs. They could be doing anything." A Ralts placed it's hand on the girl's leg and she gave it a small smile as she reached out to take the Pokemon's hand. "I'm sorry, I haven't introduced myself. My name is Elaria. I work as a breeder at that daycare. I was on my way there when all this was happening."
"I'm Orchid. This is Cormac and Graham. "
"Did you see where the thieves went?" Cormac asked. His expression was hard and serious.
Elaria nodded. Graham was distracted from her following words by Orchid stepping close to him. "Hey, Cormac and I are gonna try to find these missing Pokemon. It was really fun to hang out with you today."
"What?"
"Did you see the look on Cormac's face?" she asked, nodding at her friend. "He's really determined right now. I couldn't possibly let him do that alone. I'm really sorry we didn't get to hang out anymore."
Graham felt like reality was crashing down around him. It was absurd to him that in such a short time he had gotten so used to these two that the thought of them leaving brought him up short. Cormac and Elaria were already at the door as she pointed to something in the distance and Graham felt something not unlike panic well up in him as Orchid turned away.
"Wait!" For a moment, he was surprised that the words came from him.
"What's wrong?" She looked at him so unassuming, completely opposite to when they'd first met, and he found him hesitating. It struck him that, unlike the first time, she wasn't trying to pull him anywhere and he could just... say nothing, let her leave, and go back to his own journey. He didn't have to get caught up in the whirlwind of these pink strangers.
Maybe that was why he found himself stepping forward and saying, "Let me come. I can help."
Orchid looked surprised but the expression melted quickly into a smile. "You want to help us?"
"Yeah, I do."
"We'd be happy for the help," she told him. "Thank you."
-------------
"It's empty," Cormac said as he came out of the daycare. As soon as they had arrived he had decided to go in and look for clues. Elaria had arrived after most of the commotion had gone down, so she could only tell them so much. There had been a retreating swarm of Beedrill, but Orchid couldn't see any sign of them. She and Graham had remained outside, the latter taking a quick walk around the daycare to see if anything would jump out at them.
Cormac was upset. He hated the idea of people and Pokemon being treated poorly. It wasn't surprising to her that he was rushing in this way. She was keeping herself calm in contrast, holding Dora in her arms as something to focus on. As a rule, they weren't allowed to both be upset at the same time.
"There aren't many ways they could have gone to avoid detection," She said. She pointed in the distance at the forested road that led to the next town. "Worth a look, yeah?"
Cormac nodded, taking point as they marched toward the forest. Graham was quiet, which seemed the norm for him, but he had this worried furrow in his brow since they left the Pokemon Center. There wasn't much she could do to cheer him up in a situation like this.
"Do you hear something?" Graham asked, stopping in his tracks.
She stopped, straining her ears to hear what he was hearing. "Buzzing?"
"Beedrill," Cormac nodded. "We must be close."
"Maybe we can sneak up on them," she suggested. They walked more quietly, adjusting their path to follow the buzzing until they began to see Beedrill through the trees.
"We're running out of silver paint," a female voice said. The three of them ducked further into cover and Orchid snuck her way around a bush until she was able to see a girl in a black and yellow uniform. She was holding a paint brush over a bunch of Pokemon eggs.
"Yeah, I'm starting to run out of blue, too," a male voice added. The male, when she peeked out far enough to see him, was holding an Alolan Meowth. At least, that was what she thought before she noticed the smudge of blue on its coin and realized that it had been painted. "Do you think we took too many?"
"Maybe we can get more paint before the eggs hatch," the girl said. "Pokemon eggs are like, really hard to hatch right? Right?"
"Well, we can paint the eggs anytime," the guy continued. "We should paint the rest of these Eevee, though. They need to look shiny if we're going to make a decent profit, Belle."
"I know, Gil." The girl reached out to pet a half pained Eevee. "They're so cute, though. I wish I could keep one for myself."
He chopped her on her head and she immediately reached up to cover the area, scrunching her face up in pain. A soft chorus of "Ow! Ow! Ow!" being mumbled under her breath.
"No digging into profits, idiot."
"I know that!" she whined. "You didn't have to scold me, stupid Gil."
"I did, too. You get carried away way too easily."
Cormac must have gotten tired of waiting, because a water gun blasted right into the girl's side, knocking her over.
"Who's there?" the guy asked, turning sharply and holding out his paint brush like a weapon.
Orchid crawled over to the girl. "Hey, are you okay?" she asked, helping the girl up while she watched the guy search the opposite direction for an attacker.
"Yeah, that really smarted, though," the girl answered.
"Your name is Belle, right?" Orchid asked. "Are you almost finished here?"
"Yeah and that's Gil," the girl sighed. "Wait a minute..." Belle squinted at her. "I haven't seen you at the Team Midas base before, are you new?"
"Hey, let me trade you, real quick." Orchid reached out for the Eevee as Corsola jumped into the girl's arms
"Why do you have a--" she started as Corsola unleashed a water gun right in the girl's face, causing her to sputter and drop the aquatic Pokemon, but the assault didn't stop.
Orchid looked over at the guy in time to see him knocked over by Corsola's tackle. "Beedrill!" he yelled out, gaining the attention of the swarm hovering not far away.
"You can handle that, right Dora?" she asked.
"Cor!" Corsola nodded, before shooting water at the approaching Beedrill.
The girl was still sputtering and spitting out water from Corsola's earlier attack, so Orchid ignored her as she leaned down to check on the Pokemon. They all seemed pretty young, but aside from some being painted to look like shinies, they didn't seem harmed, just confused. She ran her hand over them in a comforting manner.
Glancing over her shoulder, she saw Gil flailing wildly as he was held in the air, Graham staring at him with intense concentration. That was pretty handy.
"Cormac, you were really impatient," Orchid yelled at him.
Cormac scratched at the back of his head nervously. "Heh, sorry, I got carried away."
"You should apologize to Graham for making him cover for you," Orchid said. "And now we have a bunch of Beedrill to deal with."
"I know, it was a bad move on my part," Cormac said apologetically. He reached for his belt for a pokeball, calling out his Popplio. "Icy wind, Popplio."
The Pokemon happily complied, taking a deep breath before exhaling an icy chill at the swarm of Beedrill. A slight frost began to coat their wings and a few notably slowed. The rest moved in swiftly.
"Blake, use psychic!" Graham called out. Orchid hadn't noticed him calling out any Pokemon, but she did see when the Reuniclus hovered above him, taking hold of one of the Beedrill and knocking it into several others.
"Oh, I'm so inconsiderate," she said, when she realized he was still holding the Team Midas member. "Let me help with that." She called out her own Pokemon, Dratini uncoiling elegantly between them. "Luna, can you be a dear and keep those two still for me?"
Dratini wrapped elegantly around the two, holding them in place. Graham let out a strained breath as he released his hold.
"Hey, let us go!" "No fair!" The two yelled.
"Not a chance," Orchid replied. "Officer Jenny would probably like to have a word with you two."
"No way, no way, no way!" Belle said loudly. "Gil, do something!"
"Sweet kiss, Eiry!" Gil yelled out. A Comfey poked its head out from under his hat, kissing Dratini and confusing her. She swayed, her hold loosening and letting the two fall to the ground. Gil grabbed his partner's hand quickly. "We gotta book it, Bells!"
"Stop!" Orchid's breath suddenly caught as she felt a sharp pain in her side. She looked away from Team Midas's retreating form to the Beedrill who’s stinger was being pulled out of her. Her vision swam.
"Orchid!"
She remembered the Eevee that was still cradled in her arms and turned so that her back would hit the ground when she fell and the Eevee would be protected.
She stopped being able to focus on the shouting around her. She'd forgotten how much it sucked to be poisoned and the thought made her laugh weakly. "Sorry, I... did it again..."
---------------
Graham was panicking. He'd failed to catch Orchid when she'd fainted and now he was looking at her like he thought she was there. Cormac might have panicked too, if it was anyone but Orchid that had fallen. Rules were rules though, so he forcefully put a lid on his temper and panic and everything else so that he could be calm. Orchid was better at acting calm when she wasn't than he was, maybe because it was so hard for him to get worked up in the first place.
He went to her side, lifting her head and feeling the back of it to see if there was a bump. "Can you take care of the rest of these Beedrill?" he asked Graham.
The man still looked too wide eyed and like he didn't know what to do with his hands, halfway reaching out but not committed. Cormac was a little annoyed that he was so nearby and let her fall. He pushed the feeling aside as Graham nodded, giving more orders to his Pokemon.
Both his Corsola and Popplio were still attacking, though Dora had come over to stand worriedly by her head. The Eevee in Orchid's arms also seemed to be watching her with worry.
"You always do this to me, Orchid," he mumbled as he reached for her bag. "I swear I'm going to stop letting you rescue Pokemon if you can't stop getting poisoned." He reached for the left over pecha pie, hoping that he could get enough of it in her to counteract the poison.
He propped her up further, sitting behind her to make sure she would fall over and crushing a bit in hand. "Dora, do you mind helping me wake her up?"
A quick splash of water hit Orchid in her face and her eyes fluttered. Cormac shoved the crushed pie into her mouth.
"Eat this or you're grounded," he told her.
She made a small noise of protest, though he was sure if it was at his words or having pie shoved into her face. He made sure to push her forward every so often so that she didn't get too comfortable and close her eyes. She gasped after swallowing the piece he'd given her and immediately crushed up more. There was another noise of protest, but her eyes opened, if only barely.
The Eevee was making worried sounds to match Orchid's, paws on her stomach as it watched her closely.
"She'll be fine," Cormac said. Then he repeated that in his head a few times for good measure. Orchid would be fine. She was always fine. She survived all the other rescues, so she would survive this one, too.
"They're retreating," Graham said.
Cormac looked up to see a few Beedrill retreating and a whole lot more on the ground. Dratini seemed to have come to her senses, too, slithering over to their side.
Graham looked awkward standing beside them, not sure what to do. After a few moments of looking around he finally asked, "Is she, um, is she okay?"
"...okay..." Orchid said softly.
Cormac let out a relieved breath and wrapped an arm around her chest as he hugged her, avoiding her injured side. "You have to stop doing that."
She leaned her head back on his shoulder, smiling at him and then Graham. "Sorry." She let one hand rest on Eevee while the other brushed against Corsola and Dratini.
"I can... um..." Graham blushed as they both faced him. He quickly reached for a pokeball and brought out his Girafarig. "H-hugo, can carry her."
"Thanks," she said softly. She pressed her hand against Dratini and the Pokemon moved closer until she pressed a kiss to it's head. "Thanks Luna." It made a cheerful sound as she pressed the Pokemon into its side and it went back into its ball.
Graham held a hand out toward her. Orchid didn't hesitate to take it, breathing out another thank you as Cormac helped push her to her feet. She didn't let go of the Eevee the entire time, nor did it stop watching her with large worried eyes. Graham helped her onto Girafarig's back and she leaned against his long neck in what looked almost like a hug.
"How will... we get these..." She paused to catch her breath, taking a number of deep inhales and exhales before she was able to speak normally, if more quietly than usual. "How will we get so many back?"
"Me and Blake can handle it," Graham told them.
"You're handy to have around," Orchid told him. She reached out for her Corsola and the Pokemon jumped into her arms, resting beside the Eevee.
"Popplio and I can herd the baby Pokemon if you can carry the eggs," he said.
"That sounds fine," Graham agreed.
Cormac pressed the remaining pie into Orchid's hand. "Eat more if you can."
She broke off a piece for herself and then gave a piece to the Eevee.
"And don't give it all to the Pokemon!"
She stuck her tongue out as she ducked her head. "Whoops."
Graham and Reuniclus floated the eggs while they led Girafarig forward. Cormac ended up with the other Eevee and Meowth falling all over him, clinging to his head and shoulders when they couldn't fit into his arms. Some of the Pokemon seemed fine walking on their own and he assumed it was the younger ones that were clinging to him.
Orchid spent an equal amount of time eating the pecha pie as she did sharing it, to the point that some of the Pokemon he was carrying squirmed out of his arms to walk alongside her in hopes of getting treats. Which they got. Cormac didn't bother to scold her as long as she kept eating herself and she looked like the poison was, if not out of her system, at least mostly gone.
Orchid and the Pokemon were all looked over at the Pokemon Center and he wasn't surprised to see Elaria still in the waiting room.
"Thank you both so much!" She said. "I don't know what we would have done without you."
"Don't worry about it, I'm just glad that we could do something," Cormac answers.
"How's the Gym Leader?" Graham asked.
Elaria smiled. "She's alright, just really mad that she wasn't able to do more. The couple that run the daycare are alright, too. They weren't poisoned at all, just lost their energy to leech seed, apparently."
"Good," Graham sighed. "That they weren't poisoned, I mean."
Nurse Joy came over to place a hand on Cormac's shoulder. "Your friend seems alright too, but we want to keep her here overnight."
He frowned. "Is she still poisoned?"
She shook her head. "Your idea to give her the pie was a good one. The poison is completely out of her system, but she's still really weak. Also..." she looked over her shoulder. Cormac followed her gaze to see Orchid in the back surrounded by Pokemon. "I think the Pokemon have taken a liking to her. Since they can't go back yet, I think it would be better if we let them stay together, don't you?"
Cormac felt himself finally relax, knowing that she was okay. "Yeah... yeah, you're right."
"Um, would you both mind helping me take the eggs back to the daycare?" Elaria asked. "I want to get the paint off as soon as possible."
"Of course," Graham answered.
"We can probably help with the paint," Cormac said, nodding to his Corsola. It would be nice to have something helpful to do.
-----------------
The next morning Orchid was surprised to see Graham waiting for her in the Pokemon center.
"Hey, are you feeling alright?" he asked.
"Yep, I'm good as new!" She said with a little twirl for emphasis. "Just about to help take the Pokemon back to the daycare. Without me to wake him up, Cormac will probably sleep in so I figured I'd do something useful. "
"Oh, do you need a hand?"
"I wouldn't mind it."
Getting the Pokemon from the Pokemon Center to the daycare was a little chaotic. They were all very energetic, wanting to play more than follow along, and the Eevee she'd personally rescued had taken a liking to her. By the time they got them all to where they needed to be, Elaria had shown up at the Daycare to feed them and they ended up helping with that, too.
Cormac showed up with Ahu when they were done, having a friendly enough chat as they came through the door.
"It's you!" Ahu yelled, pointing at Graham as soon as she saw him.
"Um, hi?" he responded.
"You think you can walk back in here just like that?" Ahu questioned, putting her hands on her hips.
"This is the daycare, not your gym, Ahu," Elaria told her calmly.
"I heard about what you did," Ahu went on. "You think you can just show me up like that? Twice? I don't think so! I challenge you!"
Elaria placed her hand on Ahu's head. "You just got out of the Pokemon center and you only have one Pokemon."
Ahu blushed. "E-eventually," she added hastily. "I challenge you eventually. I'll get my win back, you'll see."
"Ah, okay?" Graham said slowly.
Orchid stepped around her to hug Cormac. "I hope you weren't worried when I wasn't at the Pokemon Center."
"Nurse Joy told me where you were, and Ahu was interesting company to keep," he answered.
Ahu smiled, tossing her hair over her shoulder and folding her arms. "You bet I am."
"Oh! Graham! I had a question for you." Orchid skipped back over to him, stopping herself before reaching for his hand. "You're traveling to get gym badges, right? Do you wanna come with us to the next town?"
"What?"
"Cormac and I don't really have much of  a direction right now," she admitted. "We're just sort of traveling around, but you seem like good company, so we wondered if you'd want to travel together?"
"It's okay if you don't want to," Cormac added. "We just thought it would be fun."
Graham looked down as he considered it. "It... might be fun."
Orchid bounced on her heels excitedly. "So you'll come?"
"Yeah."
"Yay!" She jumped forward, tossing herself on him in an enthusiastic hug.
Graham looked at her with wide arms, his arms hovering in the air as if he was unsure whether to push her away or hug her back.
"Orchid," Cormac said.
She jumped off of him at the warning. "Ah, sorry! I got excited." She hit herself on the head lightly and stuck out her tongue. "Silly me."
Graham sighed. "What have I gotten myself into?" he asked him.
They parted from the daycare a few minutes later in relatively high spirits.
----------------------
"Oh, did those nice trainers leave?" The daycare lady asked, looking around the room. Only she and Ahu were left, the gym leader pouting over her missed opportunity to battle.
"Yeah, a few minutes ago," Elaria told her.
"We wanted to give you all a reward. This Eevee in particular seemed so attached to that flower girl."
"I could catch up with them," Elaria said. "Ahu, would you help me carry the eggs?"
"Oh, uh, sure?" Ahu answered.
"Make sure the two of you pick one out for yourself, too," The daycare lady insisted.
"What? Are you sure?" Ahu asked.
"Of course. I'm grateful for all of your help and I'm sure Elaria will help you all take good care of them." The old lady came over to give Elaria a hug. "You've been thinking about a journey of your own,. haven't you? I'd hate to see you miss your chance. They seemed like nice people."
"Thank you."
Ahu ended up juggling three eevee eggs while Elaria carried two Eevees. It didn't take too long to catch up with the group and Elaria smiled at them all.
"Hey. We wanted to give you a reward. For all your help," Elaria said. One of the Eevee’s immediately squirmed out of her arms and jumped toward Orchid, who stepped forward to catch it.
"Aw, did you miss me?" Orchid asked. "So cute! I missed you, too."
"So holds the tradition of Orchid getting poisoned to rescue Pokemon and them falling in love with her," Cormac said with a shake of his head.
Orchid didn't seem to be listening as she twirled around with her new Pokemon.
"You're doing gym battles, right?" Elaria asked Graham. At his nod, she held out one of the eggs. "I hope this becomes a strong member of your team."
He hesitated as he stepped forward to accept the Eevee, which seemed happy enough to snuggle into his arms. "Thanks."
Elaria then took another Eevee egg from Ahu's arms and held it out to Cormac. "For you. Thank you so much for deciding to help me. It really meant a lot to me."
Cormac smiled. "I'm glad that I was able to help," he answered as he accepted the egg.
"You guys don't mind having a bit more company, do you?" Elaria asked.
"The more the merrier," Orchid said. Cormac nodded in agreement.
"I hope this doesn't put you out, Graham?" Elaria said.
"I'm a tag along myself, so I don't have room to complain," He said.
"Companion, not a tag along," Orchid corrected.
Elaria smiled. She took the last egg from Ahu's arms, swapping with the Eevee she was holding. Ahu looked at the ball of fluff that was pressed into her arms and smiled.
"You know what, yeah. Yeah! Me too!" Ahu declared. "I'll come along, too."
"What about your gym?" Graham questioned.
"They can figure that out themselves," she fumed. "It'll teach them to appreciate me more if I ever go back. Besides, I left all the gym's Pokemon behind, so it's just me and Simsek." She nodded to her Shinx. "Plus, I owe you a rematch."
"You don't owe me anything," Graham said.
"I owe you a loss," she said with a foot stomp. "Just you wait. When I have a team of my own, I'll put you in your place. And then I'll find everyone that earned a badge from me and I'll beat them too! And I'll get revenge on those Beedrill while I'm at it!"
Elaria put Ahu's head as her friend got louder and louder. "Forgive her, she's very energetic."
"Well, at least this journey won't be boring," Cormac said.
"Yeah, no chance of that," Graham sighed.

Bulbasaur Family HCs
1. Despite being fairly easy to raise and having a lot of patience with new trainers, Bulbasaur is often overlooked in favor of the strong Charmander or lively Squirtle.
2. This line’s various powders (Sleep, Poison, Stun Spore) are often used in medicines and perfumes. Erika, the Celadon gym leader, is experimenting with Sleep Powder to help with narcolepsy.
3. Ivysaur is one of the most popular Grass types for contests. Coordinators like to mimic a famous video game Ivysaur’s moves.
4. Kanto Pokemon Breeders often keep a member of this line handy. They work well and serve as role models for younger Pokemon.
5. Evolution is a social activity and celebration. Bulbasaur and Ivysaur will often starve off evolution until they’re with other members of their species. If a trainer finds their Pokemon actively resisting evolution, they’ll need to locate another Bulbasaur/Ivysaur/Venusaur immediately.
6. To settle disagreements, Venusaur will draw in as much sunlight as they can and fire a powerful Solarbeam into the sky. Other members of the group vote on which Solarbeam was more impressive. Everyone prefers to settle arguments quickly and peacefully.
7. Bulbasaur’s popularity skyrocketed in recent years. Unfortunately, some Bulbasaur fans haven’t learned from the evolutionary line’s peaceful demeanor and tend to be rather argumentative with Charmander and Squirtle fans.

Hello Sky i don’t know if you’d be interested but @alex-ishvan is hosting an adoption drive. Several breeders during the recent holidays overstressed their Dams to meet the demand and as a result produced several litters of Paternal hybrids that unfortunately couldn’t be sold. Alex is currently looking for their forever homes would you be interested in potentially adopting?I could send you a link to the updated post to see the one still available? As a professor you may find the unique experience of raising a paternal highbred rewarding.
I'm totally interested! Though I'm not a professor, I do a lot of research in hybrids and pokemon genetics!
I'm not looking for new team members at the moment, but we're pretty well equipped at the sanctuary to deal with most hybrids.
@alex-ishvan If any of them are having trouble getting adopted or have special needs, feel free to send them my way. We'd love to have them!

...
Drifloon has deposited the little girl in a strange world.
It looks around, seemingly confused. This new area they're in is eerily quiet and it resembles a cave of some sort... The pokemon turns to the girl, tilting it's head to the side. She's beginning to stir as she lies on the cold, hard ground. Perhaps this is her doing?
A profound darkness sweeps their surroundings but then a weak, tawny glow begins to dot the area and Drifloon sees that there are several glowing rocks on the wall which is the source of the light along with a strange, jellyfish-like being that has appeared from nowhere. It floats around and hovers near them, dancing around in the dark before it jostles closer. Drifloon watches it cautiously.
You watch silently as the little girl finally wakes up, looks up and around and realises she's far from home. Bringing her knees to her chest, she begins to sniffle and wail.
"Looker?" You call out, "Looker, are you here?"
"I'm still here. What do you see?"
"There's a Nihilego." You mutter.
"What's going on?"
You continue to observe: Nihilego floats near the little girl and the balloon Pokemon watches it warily. It tries to get closer but Drifloon stops it by hurling a ball of dark energy at it, prompting it to retreat - but only briefly. Nihilego comes back, determined to get it's human host and the girl begins to cry.
Drifloon continues hurling shadow balls at the creature and the girl keeps crying, her sobs growing louder and louder until a bright light suddenly flashes and you watch as a slit appears in mid-air, as though the very fabric of the universe is being torn open, a glitch in the matrix - and the slit widens and expands into a circle, revealing a clear blue sky within and a large spray of trees - it occurs to you that it is Ilex Forest.
Without wasting a further second, the exhausted Drifloon grabs the girl's arm and tugs her towards the portal as the Nihilego swoops down on them, its tentacles reaching for the girl. However, the portal closes in seconds and its prey disappears within, abruptly leaving the scene.
It was a close call.
Nihilego watches the empty space before it turns to you.
You're still here.
You stiffen on the spot, freezing up entirely.
"What's wrong?"
The creature begins to slink over towards your direction.
This can't be right.
Looker said nothing here can hurt you.
".......It's looking at me." You cannot explain it but you feel it is staring right at you, it can see you.
And it's coming closer.
"Looker, get me out of here!"
But nothing happens and Nihilego comes closer and closer and it lifts one of its thin, transparent tentacles towards you and -
...
Your eyes open in a snap as you jerk awake.
You've returned to the interrogation room. You're lying on the hypnotherapy chair with Looker and Hypno at your side. However, it doesn't stop the distress from overwhelming you; your heart begins beating frantically and your breathing grows laboured, your forehead covered in sweat.
"It's okay, you're safe now. Take deep breaths." Looker instructs as your panicked eyes meet his. "Breathe in."
You suck in a noisy breath, still trembling.
"Now breathe out."
You exhale as calmly as possible.
Looker does this breathing exercise with you until your breathing returns to normal and your pulse slows down and it takes a while but finally, you've tamed your racing heart and panicked state and you slump over the chair, exhausted. You look up and around the room, noticing that it's been roughly an hour since the session and you're surprised you were under for so long considering you thought it was a relatively short experience.
Also, the band on your wrist is pulsing fiercely with two lines dotting the small screen - one line is orange and other one is green. The green one must be reflecting your heart rate as it blips in a routine fashion whilst the orange line is incredibly erratic, going in all sorts of directions. Meanwhile, the polygraph which Looker mentioned earlier shows a convoluted zigzag pattern all over the white sheet.
Looker hands you a cup of water and a tissue and you thank him as you dab all over at your damp forehead. He asks, "Are you okay?"
"I...I think so." You mutter, gulping the water down noisily. He takes the cup off you and refills it.
"Take it easy." He mutters, handing you the cup once more as he returns to his chair whilst Hypno moves to sit on the stool, watching the two of you with its beady eyes.
"I saw it, Looker. I saw everything. It was Driffie."
"I know."
"And he took me to this weird place where I saw Nihilego - and it saw me. It was looking at me." You continue to mutter in disbelief. The tape is still recording, which you're all too aware of. "....I'm sorry."
"For what?"
"I don't think I'm the missing child you're looking for."
Looker emits an inaudible sigh under his breath and throws his glance to the recorder on the desk. "...We've confirmed two possible theories though. That place you were in - there's a name for it - it's known as Ultra Deep Sea. It's the home of Nihilego. You've passed through an Ultra Wormhole. During the session, your energy levels spiked and the reading went off the chart. There's a practice called remote-viewing. If you've never heard of it before, it's not that well known or scientifically proven but essentially..."
"It's okay, I've heard of it and I know what it is."
Looker nods again. "Whilst you were under...although you were hypnotised, you made contact with Ultra Deep Sea. I believe that's why Nihilego saw you. Although you were viewing a past memory, you had crossed over." A brief silence spawns until he adds, "My theory is that your energy diverted you and Drifloon to a different dimension. You were also able to open a portal which deposited you in Ilex Forest."
"But how? I don't get it."
"It would seem to be because you were under extreme emotional distress." Looker mutters, "Your Drifloon protected you from Nihilego. I don't think he realises what he has done. Do you despise him for what happened?"
Despise Driffie? "I don't...I don't know."
"What are you going to do?"
You sigh heavily, holding your head in your hands. "...I don't know." You say through gritted teeth as your head begins to throb; you can't stress it enough.
The session's over now, so Looker thanks you for the time and for your cooperation. The session yielded very good results and interesting information which he'll send to the Bureau for examination and further study.
Whilst Looker recalls Hypno and begins tidying up, he says, "I'll talk to my superiors about this and get back to you. However, you need to be careful from now on. If we hadn't undergone the hypnosis, I doubt you would've known about your abilities. We've opened a door - one which we intend to keep shut."
"What do you mean?"
"The last thing we need right now are Ultra Wormholes opening and closing in Galar." Looker says, and you nod. "Keep the band with you at all times; it will continue to read your energy levels. Avoid anything that can and will inflict emotional distress. Things are going to be different from now on."
"Got it." You say; you really doubt anything will trigger you to undergo or experience the intense emotional distress that you felt when you were in Ultra Deep Space. "Bye Looker."
"Goodbye."
When you leave the room, you close the door behind you and turn round, spotting Raihan in the empty waiting area: he's slumped over a plushy seat with one hand stuck in his hoodie and Rotom in his other hand, scrolling through photos on his social media account until he senses your presence and looks up.
"Rai, what are you doing here?" You ask as you head over and stop in front of him.
He looks up at you with a wide grin, puts Rotom down but his phone chooses to float by his left shoulder. Reaching for your hand, he lifts your palm to his lips and you can't help but smile as he pecks the back of your hand and your knuckles with light, warm kisses. "Thought I'd come pick you up. How'd it go?" He murmurs, when he releases you to rub your palm gently.
"It was fine. I'm fine." You shrug casually but your face says otherwise; Raihan stares at you for longer than usual and you wonder what's wrong until you blink and something wet and warm trickles down your eye and over your cheek. "Oh..." You quickly lift a hand up, wiping at your face and the corner of the eye. "What's wrong with me....? I'm...I'm crying."
Raihan stands up immediately, reaching for you and pulling you into his embrace. "C'mere." He says, encircling his arms around you protectively. You're so small and tiny in his arms all of a sudden.
“Sorry...” You croak out as your vision becomes blurred with tears.
He chuckles, giving you a squeeze. ”Don't apologise, just let it all out...” Raihan murmurs as he hugs you tightly, patting you and rubbing little circles on your back.
You hug him in return as you're enveloped all over with his warmth and he presses his nose against the side of your head, nuzzling your hair affectionately. Squeezing your eyes shut, you begin sobbing and Raihan pats you on the head and strokes your hair soothingly. You can't seem to stop, sniffling and snivelling drearily in his arms.
He doesn't ask you what happened, he just hugs you and tells you its going to be okay, over and over again.
When you finally stop, he slowly loosens his grip and peers at you inquisitively. "...You okay?"
"Uh-huh." You choke out, nodding as you wipe your eyes.
Letting go of you, he cups your cheeks, plants a big kiss on your forehead. "Let's go."
You nod.
Once you leave Hammerlocke police station, you were planning to go to Raihan's place but when you see the massive gate, you decide to leave the city instead and sit down on the large stone steps of Hammerlocke that connects to the Wild Area, overlooking the magnificent green pastures. Your eyes are puffy and red and occasionally you'll still hiccup and sniff slightly but you're no longer crying. Raihan joins you, seating himself by your side and you both sit and stare at the vast grandness of the expanse.
You inhale deeply, closing your eyes as he watches you. Re-opening your eyes, you slide your gaze to the sky where you see a few Butterfree and Beautifly in the air until one of the Butterfree abandons the group, deciding to flutter towards your direction. You gingerly hold your arm out, reaching for it and it lands on your finger and looks at you. Raihan observes you quietly before lifting Rotom up and snapping a quick picture.
He switches the camera shutter to silence mode so the sound of the shutter won't scare the Butterfree away and takes a few shots of you with the butterfly pokemon before it flies away. You watch the Pokemon return to its group before you throw your gaze to the ground, bringing your knees to your chest.
You tell him everything that happened.
Although you're not sure where to start precisely, you tell him that Drifloon took you away. It took one moment where your mother and father took their eyes off you - perhaps for a few seconds or so - and you were gone but you didn't end up being spirited away, it turns out that you are a Fallerand you had somehow passed through an Ultra Wormhole and you ended up in Ultra Deep Sea. A Nihilego attacked but you were able to escape by opening a wormhole that brought you to Ilex Forest in Johto.
And then...obviously, you were found.
Raihan listens intently and it's a lot to take in; you wonder what his reaction might be but the more you spoke, the more you could not believe your own ears.
It sounds....unbelievable.
Raihan's holding your hand the entire time and he gives you an affectionate squeeze. "I'm sorry about Driffie. What'll you do about him?"
You hesitate before fishing out Drifloon's pokeball and you press on the button, releasing him. Drifloon appears, blinking at you and Raihan with his beady eyes. Standing up on the step to face him, you say, "I know what you did. You took me away from my family.... and if I continue to keep you, I...I-I can't forgive you for what you've done, I just can't - "
Inhaling a shaky breath, you mentally shake your head. Your fists curl at your sides as Raihan watches your interchange silently. "I'm releasing you; I don't want you anymore." You utter, "Go."
Driffie attempts to float towards you but you firmly stand your ground.
"I said go. Go on, get!"
The balloon pokemon shrinks away at the threatening tone of your voice and lowers its head. With his pokeball in hand, you toss it as far as you can, watching it vanish over the horizon. Driffie watches it sail in the air, blinking wildly before turning to you. "Floo....!"
"Get out of here! I don't want to see you ever again!"
Finally, Driffie stops.
You glare at the small pokemon and it turns round sadly and hovers towards the plains before he disappears from your view entirely; Raihan slowly moves to stand up beside you. You know what he's thinking - he's never seen this side of you before. You've never raised your voice, been angry. Not like this. Not towards a pokemon, no. You've always been so loving and caring. For a long time you stare at the horizon, wondering if Driffie would return.
He doesn't.
Your legs shake and you almost collapse if Raihan didn't catch you.
Tears build up in your eyes as you begin sobbing helplessly all over again and the dragon tamer helps you sit down with him and brings you into a hug, gently pulling you into his lap and wrapping your arms around your waist and you loop your arms around his neck in return and although you've embraced him many times before, this time you hold onto Raihan as tightly as possible as though fearing he would disappear. Raihan lets you cry it all out, rubbing your back and stroking your hair soothingly.
"He's gone," you croak out, wiping at your eyes. Your voice is hoarse and raspy. "Rai. Have I made a big mistake?"
Raihan looks conflicted; he can't give you a straight answer. "I'm so sorry, princess." He murmurs, threading his fingers through your hair and brushing some strands behind your ear before he presses his lips against your cheek.
"...Nothing's changed. I still don't know my real family and I still don't know where I come from."
"Maybe you're from a parallel dimension."
"...That's a bit farfetched."
"What if you're from that dimension your brother mentioned, where there's no such thing as pokemon?"
"No, I'm pretty sure there's pokemon where I'm from. I can't imagine a world without pokemon. It would be miserable, I bet."
He laughs and you feel his chest rumbling. "What if there's another you from another dimension somewhere out there and she's with a parallel mighty Raihan."
"Well...even in a different dimension, we're still together."
"Yep." Raihan presses another deep kiss over the curve of your cheek and the thought actually makes you happy. It occurs to you that he's trying to cheer you up so you force out a chuckle,  "When's your next appointment with Looker?" He murmurs, as he continues smothering your jaw and cheek with kisses.
"I dunno; he says he'll be in touch. I've to keep this band on for the time being and make sure my energy levels don't go crazy or something bad might happen. Looker didn't say that but I got the feeling that was what he was trying to say. Who knows, maybe I'll end up opening an Ultra Wormhole by accident or something. I don't know." You say with a sigh, blowing some hair from your eyes before you turn to him and his lips press against yours.
He was aiming for the cheek but when your lips meet, he pulls back with a grin and then leans forwards once more, capturing your lips with his. You kiss passionately for a brief moment or so, until Raihan gently pries your lips apart and tangles his tongue with yours. Admittedly, you don't kiss enough with tongue so Raihan pulls you further into his chest, your mouths pressing harder together.
When you finally break apart, his grin widens as you sit in his lap, breathless. "C'mon, let's go. Let's go check out some beds."
You force yourself to smile, nodding. "Okay."
...
A few days later.
After bed-shopping the other day with Raihan at a department store in Wyndon, you had returned home, glancing at your little cottage house. Something just feels different but you can't quite place your finger on what it is and why. Perhaps it is a matter of perspective.
It's just you, Espie and Poliwag in the house now.
A day ago or so, you could not bring yourself to get out of bed. You found yourself wondering why you were alive and what was the reason why you were even here on this earth. You were suffering and in pain. You called in sick and took a few days off. You couldn't bring yourself to get dressed properly, comb your hair, wash your teeth or hair or face...you could not even eat or drink....and your Pokemon tried their hardest to bring you out of this depression and luckily you were able to snap yourself out of it. Your pokemon care for you and love you. You still need to train Dreepy; he's counting on you.
And you still have Raihan and your family. It would hurt them to see you like this.
Therefore, you pulled yourself out of bed the day after.
You've called mom and Glenn, informing them what happened and what you had discovered. They want to visit you in Galar but you reassure them countless of times that you're fine. You tell them you've released Driffie. It's a shame, they said.
You do miss Driffie, but what's been done has been done.
In an attempt to move on with your life and focus on other things, you call your friend's mother and ask about the progress of your friend's recovery. Your friend's mother tells you she is getting better and firmly believes that she will be waking up soon; her fingers twitch occasionally and she responds to her voice. You thank the heavens above that your friend is fine.
Also, you're going to move in with Raihan. You've arranged some time to talk to your landlord about your lease - you still have roughly a half year left on your contract and although you looked over the terms and conditions, you had wanted to speak to the landlord to clarify on a few things. You wonder if you can break lease early, but most likely you might get fined... unless you find someone who can take over.
Raihan's already ordered the new bed which will arrive during the weekend - it's a king-sized mattress, not too soft or too hard. You both had tested out a few mattresses at the store which was a fun experience and eventually discovered the one dream mattress that fitted both your needs. It was perfect for sleeping and for...well...you know, other activities.
You're really looking forward to moving in with him. Never in a million years did you think you would meet your partner whilst working abroad - and now you are going to live together too. You're aware that usually this can also test the strength of one's relationship because you never truly know what someone's really like until you live with them. Nevertheless, it's all very exciting.
You're going to attend one of Raihan's matches later on and then you will be meeting with him to buy some necessities.
You had spent all of last night on the phone discussing about things you'd be sharing from now on - it dawns to you that this is new to Raihan as well - but essentially you'll get the bottom shelf of the bathroom cabinet because he's tall and can reach the top shelf better. You'll sleep on the right side of the bed near the window and he'll sleep on the left near the door. You'll get your own cupboard and drawer in the kitchen where you can put your baking stuff. And he'll clear some room in the cupboard under the stairs so you can put the equipment you use for work inside.
You fondly recall how you had been chatting animatedly with him about what you'll do together on the weekends, how you'll spend your evenings and how you can both take turns cooking breakfast, lunch or dinner. Indeed, it's the life you've always dreamed of and a few years ago, you wouldn't have thought about these things...but having someone by your side and sharing things is very appealing to you.
It's almost time for Raihan's match so you grab the ticket he's given you and head out with Espie. The Corviknight taxi takes you to Hammerlocke in a matter of minutes and you approach the stadium, joining the massive queue of fans and tourists alike. The lobby is bustling - a huge number of people queue up for merchandise, taking photos with Ball Guy and various aspects of the interior of Hammerlocke stadium. It's even busier when you enter the stalls - you weave your way through the crowd and finally find your block.
Raihan's gotten you a front row VIP seat so once you show your ticket and the attendant allows you in, you realise you're sitting with all the hardcore, die-hard Raihan fans who have broke their banks for the chance to see their idol up close and personal; they are screaming and cheering for him, waving glow sticks and taking selfies with their friends and pokemon. The majority are female and as you hop down the aisle and find your seat, you notice a few girls stop chatting abruptly about their Raihan photo collection and stare at you; you think they recognise you and immediately, the entire row goes silent.
You don't pay them any attention; you sit down in your seat with Espie in your arms and wait for the match to begin, watching the large TV screen which shows a video of the Pokemon League and several replays of Leon's and Raihan's matches. Down below on the pitch and you see the cheerleaders have split themselves into two groups, practising a routine for the crowd whilst they wait. You fail to see Alicia, funnily enough.
"...Isn't that Raihan's girlfriend?"
"What?!"
"She's here??"
"Yeah, I think that's her..."
You don't respond to the conversation that's going on in the background. Let them talk. Who cares?
The stalls are slowly being filled up and once all seats are full and the match is about to start; suddenly the lights of the stadium go dim, bathing the audience in darkness until a few spotlights switch on and the cheerleaders cartwheel away and out of view as the referee appears - he's roughly Kabu's age, wearing a black and white striped jersey, matching shorts, socks and shoes; the crowd gasp in awe as the huge screen stops playing the Macro Cosmos endorsed videos and is stamped with the words: "Welcome ladies and gentlemen!!!"
The referee has a microphone taped over his cheek near his mouth, his voice amplified as he thanks everyone for coming, announcing loudly that the match is going to begin; he holds his arm up, gesturing to the left of the stadium. "Please welcome....gym challenger three hundred and sixty one!"
The crowd begins to go wild and you watch as the gym challenger appears, emerging from the dark corridor. It's a teenager in the gym challenger uniform, maybe....fifteen or sixteen years old. Although she's reached the final gym, she looks terrified.
The referee then announces Raihan, throwing his arm to the corridor in the right and the crowd goes insane. The fangirls in your block begin screaming for him and stomping on the floor, causing your row to shake violently. Espie clings onto you and folds her ears down in an effort to blot out the noise as Raihan finally appears and the cheering grows a thousand times louder in volume that you think your eardrums are about to burst.
You check if Espie's fine and she seems okay, so you avert attention to your boyfriend as he swaggers out to face off the challenger. Along the way he waves to the crowd before he takes a selfie and your heart thumps hard against your chest; you watch him stride across the pitch and smile widely to yourself for you are extremely proud of him.
Bringing Rotom out, you ask him to take some photos of Raihan for you. The dragon tamer also seems to be searching for you so you wave frantically with Espie meowing loudly, hoping to catch his eye. You hope he sees you and when he spots you in the stall, he gives you a wink.
A few girls behind you think he's winking at them and squeal with delight.
Raihan and the challenger arrive at the middle of the pitch and exchange a few friendly words of sportsmanship before they turn away, heading to their respective spots. The referee stands at a safe distance in the middle, glancing at the gym challenger and Raihan. With his whistle in hand, the referee tells both battlers to get ready - the TV begins a countdown, starting at three - and Raihan brings his Rotom out with a gentle smile, checking the little screen briefly before he lifts his arm and in a split second, his expression changes into a fierce one.
The fangirls scream wildly in response and the countdown is over; the message on the huge TV immediately switches to "You are challenged by Gym Leader Raihan!" and the referee blows on the whistle.
The match starts.
Raihan does his signature pose before he tosses two ultra balls onto the field.
He begins the battle with Gigalith and Flygon; Gigalith's ability whips up a sandstorm but the crowd is safe from the weather effects by a mysterious, invisible shield that protects the viewers whilst the referee, Raihan and the gym challenger are battered.
It's a tad hard to see and you wouldn't have known exactly what was going on unless the referee wasn't outlining the match with energetic vigour that keeps the crowd on their toes, full of nail-biting suspense. The TV also shows close ups from both battlers from various camera angles. The battle is tense but the gym challenger is prepared - she's brought a fairy type and a water type. Gigalith is quickly taken down after a few hits and Flygon is smacked around by a 'Play Rough' move courtesy of her Grimmsnarl. Flygon takes down the water pokemon and Raihan brings out Sandaconda, who quickly knocks out Grimmsnarl.
When both are down to their final pokemon, Raihan releases Duraludon and starts to Dynamax him but not before taking a quick selfie with the enlarged glowing ultra ball; it's the moment everyone's been waiting for as he tosses it high into the air. The fangirls alternate away from mindless screaming and cheering and begin chanting to a tune which you are all too familiar with, having watched so many battles online.
In fact, the entire stadium is lit up with this chanting and it encompasses the entire arena which is now bathed in a red glow as Duraludon re-appears, having grown to the size of a skyscraper (and looking very much like one too).
"Bring the storm! My partner will send everyone in the stadium flying!" Raihan yells, and it's his trademark quote which causes the crowd to erupt into a frenzy.
The gym challenger releases their pokemon - it's a Cinderace - and she dynamaxes it. It also grows to a gargantuan size that matches Duraludon and you watch as both pokemon whale blows on each other using G-Max moves until Duraludon's health is brought down to zero and he returns to normal size, collapsing over the pitch.
Raihan's expression falls as he recalls the fainted pokemon and the referee blows the whistle again, officially ending the match.
"Gym challenger three hundred and sixty one WINS!"
Raihan hangs his head low whilst the gym challenger jumps up and down with happiness and dances around with her Cinderace.
The fangirls seem sad too but soon the crowd returns to cheer and Raihan picks himself back up with Rotom grinning haplessly.
"...At least I still have my good looks." He mutters to himself with a pout, adjusting his headband over his forehead. The fangirls go crazy, squealing with glee.
Re-gathering at the middle of the pitch, Raihan shakes hands with the gym challenger and passes over the badge. You don't stay for the cheerleaders when they re-appear to celebrate the victory and watch as Raihan heads for the corridor whilst confetti and happy messages appear on the screen.
Leaving your seat with Espie, you quickly leave the stalls and take the stairs down to the 'staff only' area, showing your pass to a gym trainer who lets you through. You arrive at the dark corridor where you see Raihan leaning against the wall - he's been waiting for you - and you quickly make your way over.
"Rai!" You call out to him and he looks up from his phone, grinning at you.
"Hey, princess."
You hold your arms out but instead, he pulls you into his arms and crushes you into a tight embrace that would put a Bewear to shame and promptly lifts you off the ground, spinning you round in a circle before he settles you back onto your feet where he clutches you firmly and buries his nose into your neck, trailing kisses over your cheeks and lips. You can't help but giggle as he kisses you all over.
"I watched the match; it was amazing."
"But I lost."
"Aww, it's okay." You gently pat his head, smoothing down his hair before you pinch his cheeks gently, "You did a great job out there."
"The gym challengers are seriously keeping me on my toes. How can I keep up with Leon at this rate?" He mutters as you let go; he leans forwards and he smooches you, pressing his lips firmly over yours again and again.
"Perhaps you'd be interested in some EV training?" You suggest, "Then you'll be able to squash all of Leon's Pokemon with one hit."
"Nah, s'alright. If I did that, it wouldn't be fair on Leon and it wouldn't be fun either." He replies with a wicked grin. Scooping your hand with his, he kisses your knuckles swiftly. "Let's get outta here. I'm hungry."
"Sure, where'd you wanna go?"
"Hm, let me think about it. I gotta grab something from my locker first."
"Okay, I'll wait for you outside in the lobby." You reply, and he presses a quick kiss on your forehead before you split up.
Raihan heads to the locker room and you make a beeline for the exit until you spot the gym trainer from before who let you in, holding onto a white envelope. He looks a little troubled and as you pass him, he stops you in your path.
"Oh, uh...Excuse me." He says, "Are you Raihan's girlfriend?"
"Yeah, I am."
"Someone just came up to me and told me to give this to you." He hands you the envelope and you raise a brow as you hold it limply in your hands.
Turning it around, your blood turns cold when you see that the front is indeed addressed to yourself and it is stamped with the words: rEaD mE :)
Your eyes grow wide and slowly, you pry open the flap. Delving your hand inside, you pull out a single piece of paper which you unfold and there are instructions spelled in Unown, telling you that they have the DVD and you are to meet at the top of Rose Tower immediately. You are not to tell a single soul and you must come alone.
Or else.
Panic seeps into you all over. Fear grips you like ice and you reread the instructions a second time....you cannot believe it. It's deja vu all over again. And again, it's to do with the goddamn DVD. However, as you tremble and shake in horror, suddenly these feelings evaporate entirely, replaced with searing hot anger as you scrunch up the blackmail letter so tightly that your knuckles go white and your bones clench.
It’s happening again.
Why is this happening again?
You're about to use Rotom to call Looker.
But you stop.
No, this time you will deal with this on your own. Whoever it is and whatever it is they want, you simply don't care anymore. You have your pokemon with you so you are well-protected and you won't show any mercy.
You are sick and tired of being pushed around and you aren't going to let this pass, to let them get away with it.
Not this time.
The energy band on your wrists starts to blip intensely but you ignore it.
You tell the gym trainer to inform Raihan that you've got to leave due to an emergency and without further ado, you leave the stadium abruptly and hail a taxi. You don't want Raihan to worry or get hurt because of you. You'll deal with this quietly and quickly.
When the Corviknight taxi arrives in Wyndon, you enter Rose Tower without further ado and although a staff member comes up to you, asking a polite 'How can I help you?', you tell them someone is expecting you at the top of the tower and they seem to understand, allowing you entry to the lift.
You enter, watching the lift doors close behind you and it begins to chug up to the top floor. You clutch onto the strap of your bag firmly, your knees quaking. You can't help it. Your stomach does numerous flips, the back of your throat is dry. The lift finally arrives at its destination and the doors slide open, revealing the same outdoor arena you had once set foot on with Raihan, although on this occasion the dragon tamer is not with you.
You step inside and there are two familiar figures within: it's Alicia and Raihan's ex-girlfriend.
You’re not totally shocked to the very core that they are the ones behind this. You always knew they were up to no good and they disliked you so the fact that they are the ones responsible doesn't really make heads turn. This is it, probably. The final confrontation. You will tell them to leave you alone right here and now. You storm over, stopping a short distance away and you give them beady looks whilst they stare you down.
Raihan's ex speaks first. "I didn't think you'd come."
You notice Alicia's Rotom phone is facing you with a little light on. Holy crap, are they...are they recording this???
You ignore the phone for the time being. "Where is it?" You demand angrily, having successfully stamped down the fear and nervousness and you're able to control your voice; you don't stammer or at stutter at all and your energy band blips again.
"Oh? Not so timid now, are you?"
"Answer the goddamn question."
Raihan's ex isn't fazed by your newfound hostility considering the last time you spoke, it was all rather genial. She dips her hand into her bag and pulls out a shiny, flat disc. "You mean this?"
"Hand it over." You growl, "I'm not in the mood for any games."
"I'll hand it over if you do something for me in return."
"You want me to break up with Raihan, don't you? I know you messaged him. Why are you doing this? I thought he already told you this - he doesn't want you," you bark and her face goes a funny colour in response. "And you don't deserve him."
"It's not like you deserve him either." She quips back.
It's because of the DVD that this is happening so honestly, you could just walk away from this. "Do you know what? Just do it. Just upload it online. See if I care, because I clearly don't and neither does Raihan. You don't scare me, neither of you do."
There's a brief silence and Alicia throws a quick glance at the ex worryingly. "Maybe we should - "
"Shut up." The ex snaps, crossing her arms. Her expression turns dark but then her lips curl into a cruel sneer. "Fine then, maybe I will. And I'll also tell everyone that you're adopted, that you were abused when you were a kid and that you were bullied in school, that you're nothing but a loser. I'll dig up every single dirty little secret you have and make sure it goes public."
Your fists curl. What the fuck. What the actual fuck. How does she know this, how did she find out???? You cannot fathom and as she smirks, you begin to seethe with rage. You are enraged, flush with anger. But at the same time, you are also panicking deep inside.
"...Is she having a mental breakdown?" Alicia mutters.
"Who cares, you're getting this on camera, aren't you?"
"Yeah."
You begin to find it hard to breathe, your mind racing frantically and your heart cannot pounding so hard it hurts - and they notice, laughing at your reaction. They're recording this too. Why is this happening? Should you fight her? With punches and kicks? No, she's not alone - you're unlikely to get the upperhand although you want to strangle the wind out of her if you could. Hell, you could get your pokemon to attack them but that's a criminal offence. Realising that you have no advantage here, you find yourself at a loss and you're reduced to a quaking mess again, sick to the stomach.
As you despair, the band on your wrist beeps louder and louder and the orange line is spiralling out of control; it's at the peak, quivering violently as the reading begins to go off the charts, the band cannot keep up as you become lightheaded and dizzy and you drop to the ground.
Suddenly, their laughter stops.
Instead, they're now adamant in staring wide-eyed at something behind you.
Turning round, a slit has appeared in mid-air.

Meanwhile.
Looker sits in his office in Hammerlocke Police station, going over the transcript of the hypnosis session.
She had described Ultra Deep Sea in-depth. She had even seen a Nihilego. Looker rubs the bottom of his chin as he reads the final part: the Nihilego had seen her during the session. He has a bad feeling about this so he goes to one of his briefcases and opens it. There's only foam inside, cushioning a single pokeball and a folded piece of paper.
The label on it says: "Type: Null - Property of Macro Cosmos."
Looker takes out the paper and unravels it, revealing that it is now property of the Bureau, having been confiscated. He glances to where his signature is along with the print where it details that Type: Null is under Looker's protection. Contemplating to himself, Looker reaches for a small bottle of correction fluid from a tub on the desk and carefully removes his name.
Once it dries, he picks up a pen and writes her name in his place.
Nodding to himself, Looker folds the paper back and pats the pokeball. "You'll be in good hands." He says.
Suddenly, his Rotom phone beeps loudly and he glances over. "Bzzzrt, abnormal energy level detected from zzzubject zzzixteen!" Rotom cries out.
His brows furrow at once. "Whereabouts?" Looker demands as he gets up from his seat, grabbing his coat off the hook and donning it. He picks up his suitcase too, packing in some of his equipment.
"It'zzz coming from Rozzze Tower in Wyndon."
"Thanks, Rotom. Let's go check it out."
Looker hopes he's not too late.
