Lowkey, I think one of my favorite little things about Rescue Bots is how we get to learn a little more about Optimus when he shows up. Like, not war stuff or Orion Pax stuff, but just little things about Optimus.

One of his favorite Earth stories is The Little Engine That Could. Does he read in his spare time and if so, how did he find Little Engine?

He tells Heatwave that he has also been learning from humans. What has he learned? The phrase "Nothing much, double dutch." Who the fuck taught him that? My money's on Miko. Jack would not have the audacity to add that to Prime's vernacular.

He has a motherfuckin' rocket powered car carrier capable of hauling four bots. And since Team Prime had four four-wheelers on the team prior to Darkness Rising, you could reasonably assume that he has used it with Cliff, Bee, Bulk, and Ratch

Optimus knows what a pogo stick is. That isn't anything noteworthy, I just think it's funny.

Imagine a world thats like a butterfly.

It's pretty, and unique, something that you hold your breath and watch from a distance as those bright colors and patterns dance in front of your eyes. Some parts of it aren’t so pretty, the tongue is a little creepy, that segmented body disturbing if you examine it too closely, and lord hope you don’t learn about how the insect tastes with the very feet that are touching you.

Then again, some might find that cool.

The world is pretty, it's a little weird, it’s not something you’ve seen before, but most of all, it's fragile.

You could crush it without thinking. A sadistic child could rip it apart. A disconnected scientist could pin its husk to a wall. Even if it's not one of you that kills it, the beautiful thing has such a delicate balance, old generations passing within weeks and replaced by new in an endless cycle dependent on the environment around them. Not too hot, not too cold, not too soon, not too late. Life is dependent on factors out of control.

And what is this little butterfly’s defense? A facade of strength? The ability to hide in tiny places? A poison that will inconvenience a predator at the cost of their own end?

How soft. How delicate. How pathetically sad.

That's Earth to Cybertron.

But that’s Cybertron’s view. In quite a few ways it is correct, but there is a single factor that is missing; Humanity is terrifying.

That basically is the sum of my Once Upon a Time series.

We’re paradoxical, intricate, willful little buggers that don’t know how to quit. The transformers' continuities I’ve always seen tend to push humanity to the side, make us the damsels in distress, or a temporary side arc to examine as the big picture paints itself around us. 

I get, I mean, it's transformers, We’re here for transforming robots, not fleshy faces that you can see in any other version of media. Give the audience what they pay for. In those instances, I’d prefer if Earth/humans were written out entirely. Focus on the bots if there the only thing that narratively matters, please.

So imagine a little butterfly, so pretty and delicate, is crushed under a steal-toed boot. Butterfly dead. You walk away, unwilling to see the squished and paper-thin remains. There are more important things to do, so why waste anything other than disappointment on something so small?

The issue is that the planet was never a butterfly to begin with. 

The bug picks itself up and keeps crawling. Keeps living. We’ll find another dark corner, creep along outside, and slink our way into your home. We’ll repurpose, infest, and grow. We’ll survive and infuriate, disgust, and horrify those who learn what we really are. We aren’t butterflies, not entirely.

We’re space cockroaches.

Irrational Fears

Earth is absolutely terrifying, a fact that both Autobots and Decepticons can attest to.

Megatron

Despite being so big and tough, there is one thing about the earth that just scares the scrap out of Megatron.

He does not really fear what lurks within earth's biggest bodies of water, no, he fears the bodies of water themselves.

He never needed to learn to swim since Cybertron didn't exactly have huge bodies of anything resembling liquid near the surface beside the occasional acid pool.

And the safe liquids that existed on Cybertron were far denser than earth's liquids, often being thick enough to almost be a paste, posing little issues for those who got stuck in them besides some sticky residue being left on their armor afterward.

As such arriving on earth and falling into the ocean for the first time was rather traumatizing.

His usual method of handling being in liquid did absolutely nothing for him since water is not nearly as dense as what Megatron is familiar with.

He sank like a rock and was left at the bottom of the fragging ocean in the dark with no clear way to get out besides walking to the surface since transforming or ground bridging out would cause more trouble than it was worth.

He was irritated but fine with it at first, after all, no organic thing in the waters could really do him any harm.

But the ominous noises, the random currents which threw his sensors into overdrive, the extreme water pressure, and the rather freaky things passing by him as he traveled back to land just... traumatized him in a way he couldn't really describe.

The ocean threw Megatron off, and since then he has sworn off going near the Unmaker-cursed liquid pools when possible.

Optimus

Surprisingly Optimus's worst fear that originated on earth was not of natural disasters or anything of the sort, no, his fear is of the roads, or more specifically, the people driving on the roads.

Optimus is a textbook driver and obeys every road law to the letter, as such most human drivers scare him half to death.

American drivers are a melting pot of every form of insanity, with customs from all over the world resulting in the most confusing road culture imaginable.

Poor Optimus can't make heads or tails of it and often finds himself bewildered when other drivers honk or scream obscenities at him for following the rules.

Not only that but Americans are freaking crazy drivers.

Optimus has gotten hit, crashed into, pushed off the road, and forced to swerve to save some poor idiotic soul far more times than he will ever be comfortable admitting.

When it happens he panics. After all, the human vehicles have humans in them, and humans are squishy and easily damaged, unlike Cybertronians.

It isn't much better in other countries.

The Europeans are agonizingly slow drivers and park where ever their car will fit, trying to travel through British towns and cities on their tiny roads is an absolute nightmare.

For a vehicle of Optimus's size Europe, as a general rule, is one of the worst places to drive.

But oh boy, Europe has nothing on the Asian and middle eastern countries.

Driving there induces some of the worst anxiety Optimus has ever had since the war began, and that is saying something.

Random cattle on the roads, junk cars sputtering along looking like they are going to explode at any moment, the absurd amount of potholes, the fearless jaywalkers, and the maze-like structure of most roads make Optimus nearly have a panic attack every time he is forced to go driving in such areas.

He doesn't even want to get started on the state of the roads in Canada or the terrifying scrap he has seen while driving in Australia.

Starscream

Fragging Pigeons, Starscream simultaneously hates and fears them with a passion.

The mixed hatred and fear of the stupid birds began shortly after his arrival on earth when he flew through a flock of them.

The end result left him floundering as found himself covered in feathers, gore, and droppings.

Of course, it didn't end there.

The one time he fell into recharge out in the open he awoke to find himself covered in pigeons.

Even after they flew away his armor was still stained by lots of little gifts from the feathery fraggers.

The birds have also caused him to crash numerous times as he just isn't used to maneuvering around the organic things.

Trying to avoid the birds just causes him to lose his senses and flying through them is just messy.

On Cybertron, he could just fly straight through most small mech animals that had flight capabilities and both parties would be fine.

It is, of course, a completely different story on earth.

The never-ending harassment from the birds has led him to begin fearing them.

Where ever he goes there are pigeons.

America? Pigeons. Asia? More Pigeons. Africa? Yep, Pigeons there too. Europe? You guessed it, Pigeons.

They haunt his existence to the point where anything that remotely looks like a pigeon sends him in the opposite direction lest he gets turned into a perch, a fate almost as bad as death in his book.

Ratchet

Normally Ratchet would not consider himself the squeamish type, his particular line of work does not afford him that luxury.

However when it comes to dealing with the mess that is human anatomy he can't help but be a little hesitant.

Everything about them is just so screwed up.

Cybertronain biology while complex, is orderly and only requires energon to function.

Humans though, they are a whole different mess, one that Ratchet tends to find himself feeling a little dizzy when handling.

Their bodies need so much to work right, and the delicate balance sustaining them is so unnerving to him with the children hanging around.

How can humans teeter on the edge of rolling over and dying from nearly everything at any moment and still live so comfortably?

But their squishiness isn't the most traumatizing part for him, no, its the way human bodies fix themselves.

Blood is the most vital part of a human, but the way it is replaced bothers Ratchet on a spiritual level.

Humans make their blood themselves, all the organics do.

But instead of mining or consuming more when they run low like Cybertronians, they go and consume the matter of other creatures instead.

The whole process is somewhat terrifying when looked at too deeply and now Ratchet can only look at the humans in slight fear when they eat a burger or something similar.

How they can casually consume other creatures is beyond him, on Cybertron such behavior would make one a ghoul, mech animal, or Predacon.

Cassandra Cain ran away at age 8, and she lived on her own for 8-9 years before the events of No Man’s Land.

No Man’s Land takes place not long before A World Without Grown Ups, in which Billy Batson is somewhere around age 15. And Billy becomes Captain Marvel somewhere between age 10 and 14. Regardless, Cass would have run away before Billy was at that age.

Accessing the Wizard’s power requires pureness of heart. At least, it does when one is trying to access it through the Wizard or his staff, although the Champion can share their power with anyone.

And Cass is shown to be able to access the Wizard’s power due to her pure heart, even after five years of a technoviral zombie apocalypse.

So, given all of this information, if the mission during which Cass took a man’s life and ran away from her father took place in Fawcett City, then it is very possible that the Wizard might have chosen Cass as his Champion instead.

Nahhhh but it gets me how in the aligned continuity there were predacons on earth for a (relative to Cybertronian time) short while and not only did they interact with humanity at some point, but they were all long gone by the events of TFP. Especially by the fact that typically dragons are very intelligent in mythology, and in TFP we're shown that yes the predacons are sapient.

It makes me wonder about what happened to them, what their lives were like, and about how it puts those legends about slaying legendary beasts in an entirely new light in the shows.

since you know more about comics than me I thought I'd ask: do you know if the name Riddler has in the One Bad Day comic is a new or an existing one and if it's new, what's your opinion on the character getting yet another alias?

To my knowledge, this is the first time "Tierney" has been used! I don't think he's gotten a new last name since the last continuity, when I believe he revealed his birth name was Nashton during the "Riddle Me That" storyline in Legends of the Dark Knight #185-189.

EDIT: @jovialjuggernaut-draws thought of an older instance of Nashton in Secret Origins Special (1989) #1! This might be the real oldest, though interestingly here it’s unspecified whether Nashton was intended to be his first or last name.

So far in the current continuity he's only had the name Nygma, though interestingly the wiki boys have decided to make "Edward Tierney" his real name on his Prime Earth page (for some reason, despite the One Bad Day series being Black Label).

Unless you count Nygma/Nigma as different names, then I think he's only had three aliases? So not too many. Honestly I like Tierney a lot better than Nashton, I always thought it was contrived that his birth name also started with an N. And now that the Batman 2022 version has taken "Nashton," it might be organizationally helpful for comics Edward to have a different birth name!

Can humans Drini energon and more importently can they get drunk on high grade ?

I’m going to presume this is for OUAT, because humans can still get radiation poisoning in my other fics… Unless they’ve turned into a sparkling- but point still stands!

The short answer is ABSOLUTELY YES!

Cyberformed humans can ingest energon, it just has no nutritional value to them. It’s basically an energy drink. The same also goes for high grade, just with an extra “buzz.”

Humans would be absolutely lightweights to a certain point, Earth would have some energon equivalents, some that are even stronger than the mineral itself, but there’s something about the high grade and how it’s processed that makes the first few introductions very entertaining to watch. Overtime, an individual would gain a higher tolerance, but that first taste? Does not take long to get full-on drunk within a few shots.

It’s not something anyone, human or Cybertronian, predicts. With caffeine, capsaicin, and other edible compounds still existing on Earth, upgraded to match the cyberformed world alongside dark energon and tox-en variants, most would expect humans to be essentially invulnerable to most chemical attacks.

Ah, the hilarity of your new buddy drinking tox-en spiked energon, thanking the would-be-murder for finding a way to make the meal taste like cinnamon, only to later collapse into a giggling, nonsensical mess on the third shot of high grade.

Humanity seems a little more approachable after that. It’s hard not to let your guard down when the individual that accidentally tipped everyone off on a murder-attempt is cuddling you like a clingy sparkling.
