Sly and the Family Stone - Que Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be) (1973)
I’m just feeling this one right now.  The story goes that Sly met Doris Day through her son Terry Melcher.  When Doris came into the room, Sly started playing Que Sera.  Soon, Doris joined him at the piano in a duet.  I guess Sly liked the result and recorded it with his sister Rose for the Fresh LP.

Everything You Need to Know About Crystals: Bloodstone
Bloodstone (The Blood of Purification)

Rarity: Easy to obtain
Hardiness: 7
Type: Chalcedony
Chakra Association: Root, Heart, Solar Plexus, and Sacral
Deities: Brigid, Dione, Persephone, Christ (believed to be his blood in Christian mythology)
Birthstone: March
Astrological Signs: Aries, Pisces, Libra
Element: Fire
Planet: Mars
Origin: Australia, Brazil, China, India, USA
Powers: Open Doors and Remove Walls, Prosperity, Strength, Courage, Purification, Vitality
Crystals It Works Well With: Red jasper, Black Tourmaline, Hematite, Amethyst
How It is Created: Bloodstone is a variety of chalcedony quartz with a distinctive dark green color combined with specks and clumps of red jasper inclusions
History: The distinct blood red marks within the stone are often used for talismans because it is believed that the stone protect one from evil spirits. In medieval times, it was believed the blood specks came from the blood of Christ while he was being crucified as his blood dripped down onto the rocks. Legends such as the tale of Percival, one of King Arthur’s knights who went on the quest for the Holy Grail, illustrate the combined qualities of bloodstone. Percival was a knight trained in the physical aspects of combat, but his quest took him into the spiritual realms, teaching him lessons about illusion and the power of unconditional love. In ancient times, it was believed that this stone could heal, banish negativity, and guide people who were lost. It was worn by warriors on their arms to help heal wounds during battle and to stop the bleeding quickly. It was also worn on the breast of a warrior to feel them with courage and strength. It was said to keep their morals high, even after very heavy casualties.
What It Can Do:
Banish evil spirits and negativity
Heal wounds and one’s mental state
Used to draw money and increase wealth
Clams fear and anger
Ensures victories in legal battles
Balances and ground the energy in one’s heart to promote action
Gives courage and teaches on how to avoid dangerous situations
Heal the ancestral line
Benefits blood-rich organs, regulates and supports blood-flow, and aids in circulation
Egyptians believed it shrank tumors
How to Get the Best Out Of: Wearing it as a bracelet or something on the arm area and a necklace near the heart is a great way to utilize bloodstone to its full potential as it works well near the bloodstream and blood-rich organs like the heart.
How to Cleanse and Charge: Cleanse it by running it under water or bury it in your garden for a deeper clean. Charge it by placing it under a full moon or using green and red candles around it.
Crystal Grid:
General Well Being
Layout: Lemniscate
1 clearing crystal
1 light-bringing crystal
1 immune-balancing crystal
Crystals to Use:
Bloodstone
Green Aventurine
Que Sera (Llanoite)
Quantum Quattro
Cherry, Rose, Smoky, or Emerald Quartz
Hold your crystals in your hands and state your intention for the grid.
Lie down.
Place a clearing crystal beneath your feet (sit up to do so).
Place a light-bringing crystal above your head.
Place an immune-balancing crystal halfway up your breastbone over the
higher heart chakra.
Use the power of your mind to connect the lemniscate over and around you.
Remain in the grid for five to fifteen minutes, focusing your attention and breathing gently
into the immune-balancing crystal. If you become aware of energy that needs to shift out of
your body, send it down to the crystal at your feet for transmutation.
Remove the crystals in the reverse order in which you laid them, then cleanse them
Heart and Immune System
Layout: Lemniscate
1 grounding crystal for the feet
1 pinkish-burgundy crystal or immune stimulator
1 emerald-green crystal or immune soother
Crystals to Use:
Emerald
Emerald Quartz
Fuchsite
Cherry Quartz
Rose Quartz
Ruby
Garnet
Green Aventurine
Lepidolite
Bloodstone
Que Sera
Quantum Quattro
Hematite Quartz
Hold your crystals in your hands and state your intention for the grid.
Sit down on the floor.
Place a grounding crystal at your feet.
Lie down fully.
Place one crystal above the heart on the higher heart
(thymus) chakra.
Place one over the heart seed at the base of the breastbone.
Check your heartbeat—it will quickly indicate which crystal should be placed above, and which below. If your heartbeat feels too rapid or is pounding heavily, or if it feels too slow and heavy, switch the crystals around.
Use the power of your mind or a crystal wand to trace the lemniscate, crossing the circles over your heart.
If dizziness results, breathe deeply and send the energy down toward the crystal at your feet for transmutation.
When the layout is complete, remove the crystals in the reverse order in which you laid them. Stand up slowly and ground yourself by stamping your feet.

'72 part II in detail, part 1. My overall feelings are still "hmmm", but now they are "hmmm" backed with line-by-line film analysis. I'd emphasize that this adaptation accomplishes a lot that's interesting and fresh, and you can dig in to it critically in a way that would collapse a film like '52 or '98. Ultimately it fails for me as a whole, but not without me being glad to have the pieces in hand that are good.
Julien Verdier plays the best Mabeuf, which—well—just because the competition isn't brisk doesn't mean you didn't win it, right? We open part II with a little speech of his that if I'm not mistaken (correct me if I'm wrong!) does not come from the Brick, but is a bit of freewheeling on the adaptation's part. Given the placement, it seems significant, and the temptation to boil it down into some straightforward political sentiment is strong, given the series' overall sense of politicalness. Eventually this man's degradation (his priceless books being made cheap by the necessity of their sale to literal goods) makes him a revolutionary of sorts, if a very wobbly and incoherent one—some counterpoint, a complication, maybe, to the fact that poverty in this story otherwise leads to crime? Not sure.
ThĂ©nardier continues to have far more status in '72 than in the Brick or other adaptations. The musical master of the house wishes. You see, the narrator takes us on a breakneck adaptation of III.VII: we open with III.VII.I "Il y a sous la construction sociale, cette merveille compliquĂ©e d'une masure—" and skip mid-breath to III.VII.II "—et il y aura, tant que l'ignorance ne sera pas dissipĂ©e, la grande caverne du mal," it is a charge through a very dense section of novel, and these are as far as I can be fucked to pick out all direct quotes until we get to the very end: "Avoir faim, avoir soif, c'est le point de dĂ©part; ĂȘtre—" Well, in the novel, Satan. In '72? "—ThĂ©nardier, c'est l'arrivĂ©e." The camera zooms in on Alain Mottet's best quivery stare; his beard is very bad. I am of several minds: on the one hand, if you don't know the original sentence culminates in Satan, you wouldn't think it's odd to find ThĂ©nardier, and it's perfectly possible the script writer was only thinking, I've got these badass lines but I really need my tv series to be a little more concrete than Hugolian, and Alain Mottet is more concrete than the Father of Lies. On the other hand: perhaps they're saying that the original text sees the outcome of all this to be the Catholic concept that is Satan, but they see it to be the concrete harmful/harmed individual human. Or, on a foot: '72 ThĂ©nardier is the fucking Devil. Whatever the case may be, in the Brick ThĂ©nardier does not even appear in III.VII—Hugo is talking about Patron Minette, and he's not a member. Given ThĂ©nardier's importance to this series, I don't mind this change at all.
After this really significant and interesting alteration to its source text '72 proceeds to decide Brujon is now a fifth main player in PM. lol, ok.
Nicole Jamet looks stoned off her gourd this entire series, with an expressive range from numbly dull to a ghastly blank smile. I hunted down clips of her in La piovra to see if this is her acting style overall, and while she's a little flat there as well, it's more in the line of being afraid to show a wrinkle and less whatever's happening in Les Misérables. Since it's paired with Georges Géret's Valiumjean I derive this is a directorial choice. It's our luck she only appears in, generously, 20 minutes of part II. I don't think I've ever wanted less Cosette in a LM adaptation, but she's such an unpleasant take on the character that I'd rather simply not.
I re-read IV.V.VI to see whether my harsh judgment of Nicole Jamet's performance in this scene was unfair—maybe Hugo also described Cosette as baked, I've been wrong before, and I won't blame an adaptation for fidelity. But, nah. Jamet more or less stands and stares, a little head shake here, a little lips parting there. In the novel, while we aren't given as much of Cosette's interiority as Marius' (thanks, Hugo) and we don't hear her voice at all as much (THANKS, Hugo), we see her first caught between two impulses: "Cosette, though ready to swoon, uttered no cry. She retreated slowly, for she felt herself attracted." and then a point of drama, "And she sank down as though on the point of death." I'm not saying you have to be howling and flailing your way through it, but c'mon, there's life to be found in this moment, and Jamet is a stiff. There is the issue that Marius monologues and we have zero idea in the novel of Cosette's actions during this time—a challenge, yes; one the film doesn't meet.
Now I'm being a petty bitch, but I don't like that they changed the exchange from "Vous m'aimez donc?" "Tais-toi! tu le sais!" to "Et vous, est-ce que vous m'aimez?" "Je t'aime." Please, let someone tell Marius "tais-toi". (To be clear, I think it unfair to expect an adaptation to completely follow the source text. but. y'know. If you're going to have this many direct quotes, maybe don't put in bland substitutions where your deeply invested viewership will notice them.)
Great adaptation of Gavroche and the mÎmes in this. "j'en avais un, mais les souris l'ont mangé" kills me, it hits the pitch perfectly of the combined humor and horror of the situation.
In continued "ThĂ©nardier is the main character of '72" news, the scene in which he's saved from the top of the wall takes about four minutes—about a minute and a half more screentime than Marius and Cosette's first love confession. Not to get into the nitty-gritty of what this series cares about, or anything.
By the by, Claquesous rather than Montparnasse comes to fetch Gavroche, a small change that I suppose is irrelevant overall when the series doesn't have the time to draw the Montparnasse-as-future-Gavroche connection anyway, but which falls into this pattern '72 has of odd small alterations to Patron Minette.
Hermine Karagheuz's performance is uneven overall, in my opinion, but I could watch on a loop as she replies to ThĂ©nardier's "Faut bien qu'on vive, tout de mĂȘme" with a raspy "Crevez". Having driven off the would-be thieves, she takes a few shuddering breaths, she collapses back against the gates with a gagging exhalation, she looks like she's going to be sick. Is it dramatic? Hell, yes. I'm into it.
We cut to Jamet, who cannot even fake weep.
I feel awkward that I've got nothing meaningful to say as we swing into revolution mode even though this is an essential pivot point in the series. Shrug emoji.
I have a very bad ear for French but one of the terms I can pick out reliably is now "mouchard". Thanks, Javert. I got nothin' deep to say still as he is uncovered at the barricade, but I did laugh when the revolutionaries steal his hat in the process of searching him. Did they think he was hiding something up there? Better check in his whiskers next.
This adaptation really suffers from the lack of Le Cabuc.
On my initial watch of this series the poetry recital wrecked my shit, here we have one man say "Do you remember our sweet life, when we were so young, we two, and we had in our hearts no other desire than to be well-dressed, and to be in love," another responds "We... We lived hidden away"———the combination of the stutter and the furtiveness, y'all, I did a double take, I knew fandom would've alerted me if there was explicit homosexuality in this, and still I had a moment when I thought I saw the ripples in a waving rainbow flag.
They pull directly from Hugo's aside about civil war in IV.XIII.III for Enjolras' speech—I'm not sure how often '72 actually puts narration into characters' mouths rather than into the narrator's, now that I think about it (would have to re-rewatch which isn't going to happen anytime soon). This is interesting to me; we have here a character who makes several speeches, all pertinent to the politics of revolution, and yet instead the show decides to have him recite—a passage which occurs in the inglorious context of Marius justifying to himself that he is fine to shed French blood when his father shed that of foreigners.
I'll come back for the final thirty minutes another time—that's enough for now.

Starmania 1979

DISTRIBUTION :
Daniel Balavoine : Johnny Rockfort
France Gall : Cristal
Fabienne Thibeault : Marie-Jeanne
Étienne Chicot : ZĂ©ro Janvier
Diane Dufresne : Stella Spotlight
Grégory Ken : Ziggy
Nanette Workman : Sadia

Petite Musique terrienne Partie 2

“Vic?” Y/N’s voice trembled. She had no idea how she had ended up here - her skin-tight dress did almost nothing to keep her warm in the vile wind. Darkness stretched over the unknown field. Deep emerald grass surrounded her. The shadow in the turf shifted at the sound. There. By the lighthouse, no more than 10 metres away.
Victoria was sitting on the edge of the pier, feet dangling above the water. A thin, sheer shirt covered her body. She didn’t shiver, or speak, or breathe. She just stared at Y/N with empty eyes. Her irises had taken a new, eerie hue - vibrant green replaced by a dull grey. “Vic? Is everything okay?” The small stones on the jetty crumbled under her sandals, the gloomy field suddenly disappearing - evil darkness embraced everything.
“Love?” Y/N started again; Vic still dangled her feet off the edge, but now the sea had turned into a fluffy cloud of nothingness; her stare now pitch black. A gasp left her pale lips. “You did this to me.” Her skin grew wan, thousands of small blood vessels becoming visible and popping. Slimy vines squeezed Victoria’s frame, a dark liquid seeping out of her mouth. It leaked down her chin, dripping on her chest.
Y/N tried to yell, but at first nothing came out - only a few pathetic sobs (“mouse squeaks” as her mother would have called them). Then followed the actual screams - blood-curling I’m-being-stabbed-to-death-while-my-insides-are-trying-to-crawl-out-of-me type of screams.
A loud “Y/N! Wake up!” tore through the fog, bringing the hysterical girl back to the small bedroom of the Copenhagen hotel they rented for the next few nights. Beads of sweat covered her forehead. Some more dripped down her back soaking into her thin nightgown. “Baby?” Victoria. This time the voice belonged to the one who laid topless beside her in bed. Blonde hair in knots and a confused expression on her face. “What’s the matter?” “I’m having nightmares.” Y/N held the bassist close; afraid that if she let go for a second the images in her mind would become a reality. “The same ones as yesterday?” The musician pulled her girlfriend closer, turning around for a second to grab the glass of two-day-old water from her bedside table. “Here drink.” Vic brought the glass to Y/N’s lips, letting her take a few sips. “It’s okay.” She twisted a few strands of her hair. “I’m here. Okay?” Y/N nodded. “I’m not going anywhere!” The bassist planted kisses on her neck. “Do you wanna get your top off, love? Yeah?”
Y/N let out another pathetic whine (Victoria wasn’t even sure she let out any sound, but the shift of air on her collarbones confirmed the whimper of approval). The blonde helped the girl unstick the fabric from her sweat-glistening skin. The heart of the latter literally tried to run out of her ribcage (Vic would usually crack a joke about making her pulse so rapid, but seeing how scared her girlfriend is, her soul didn’t allow her to do that, so instead she stuck to silence). Calm, rhythmic breaths filled the room. The quietness interrupted by the occasional encouraging phrases and hushed love confessions. “Everything is okay, love. Just breathe.” Victoria would say, as kissed her hand. “It’s fine, I’m here.” She would pull her close. “I’m here, babe. Nothing will happen to either of us.” Another peck on the cheek. “I love you, you know that? Right, angel? Yeah?” Y/N nodded against her lips. “I am not leaving you, love. Never.”
After the not-so-short crying session ended, Victoria laid the napping girl down, covering her slouching body with a chequered blanket and planting a single kiss to her lips. She glanced to Y/N’s nightstand only to see one of their polaroids stuck to the hotel lamp. Both of them were in Rome, Vic climbed up on her girlfriends shoulders. Her mouth open, a wide smile stretching over Y/N’s lips. With a small smirk on her face, she drifted off to sleep.

What's beneath the cut is very Gwen&Ben-negative. This is your warning,
So, last night my brain meandered over to the plethora of 'Devlin is Gwen's' works out there, more specifically the ones that try to fit that into an otherwise canon-compliant Ken 10. Annoys the piss out of me, personally, because I've seen more than a few say it's canon because Gwevin despite the information we get in the the show itself, but que sera sera. But my brain continued onward into 'what would we do'? If we were told 'Gwevin is canon, therefore Gwen is Devlin's mother, now rewrite Ken 10 with that in mind', what would we put out?
Regular readers of this blog, especially those who know my spiteful nature, may see where this is gonna go....
So, we start off, we're building off Gwen's shit in the sequels, where she's clearly of the opinion that it's fine to use violence against your partner when you're unhappy with them. I've said before that someone who pulls some of the shit she does as openly and in front of others as she does sure as fuck ain't a saint behind closed doors, and I've mentioned before that her actions seem to get bolder over time.
Piece one of the episode then- Gwen has continued on her 'totally not abuse because Kevin is sturdy and 'deserves' it' bullshit, primarily in 'small' but regular acts rather than big displays.
"Okay Achi," I hear you say, "but a big part of the plot of the episode is Devlin releasing his dad from the Null Void, he can't do that if his dad is at home getting knocked around." To which I say two things- 1) Kevin is openly a 'they hurt my loved ones I hurt them' sort of person; 2) people who knock around their partners are more likely to also knock around their children.
Piece two of the episode- After a point Gwen started in on Devlin and Kevin lost his fucking shit.
So we get two birds with one stone- Kevin is in the Null Void because the Tennysons essentially are the local law enforcement and nobody is going to side with the ex-con who got violent with his Good and Heroic wife no matter what his side of the story is. Devlin wants to get his father out because anyone who was on Kevin's side in the whole mess got cut out, his mom's abusing him, and the adults in his life aren't going to do anything about it unless he starts walking around with black eyes and shit to make it glaring obvious she's not just a overworked single mom doing what she can to to keep Kevin Levin's kid on the right track- boy yearns for the dad he knows is gonna take his side.
So we get our background and our Devlin motivation. But this is a Kenny-focused episode, so where are we getting our shit there?
We don't need time with Kenny and Devlin meeting and making friends, they're family they already know each other and are close, and we don't need the background 'hey it's my birthday' stuff. So, we focus more on Kenny growing as a person.
We start with Kenny and Devlin running around, being kids. This lets us 1) establish them as being close, 2) establish Kenny's desire to be a hero like Ben prior to things going wrong, 3) lay the groundwork for the smack of 'yeah no the shit Gwen does is abuse' later on (personally I'd go with a more straight-laced Devlin who very clearly doesn't want to get dragged into anything that might upset his mom, maybe have him torn whether getting involved in shit or not helping someone would be the wrong call), and 4) potentially allows us to give Devlin what at first seems like a morbid fascination with the Null Void, blamed on trauma in relation to his dad snapping and getting thrown in there as a result.
We take the time to establish Kenny and Devlin, their relationship, and also the time to establish Ben, where he is now, how his son looks up to him, and his relationship with the kids.
Relatively early in the episode we get to see Devlin free Kevin from the Null Void, who- rather than starting shit- grabs his kid and bolts.
The next morning there's phone calls about 'have you seen Devlin', people find out Kevin's free and has him, Ben and Gwen go off to get him while insisting Kenny stay behind because Kevin is dangerous.
Kenny, in proper child hero fashion, does not listen. His dear friend is in danger and he's going to help.
I'm picturing Kenny finding them first and trying to sneak Devlin off when Kevin isn't looking, only to be thoroughly confused when Devlin staunchly refuses to go back, telling Kenny to just go home before vanishing off with his dad again.
There's a lot of fighting and arguing once the adults clash. I've got two specific images in my head- one of Kevin telling Devlin to stay safely out of the way and getting even more pissed at Gwen when he doesn't even hesitate to listen because that's not healthy Levin behavior and he's met enough of them to know it's not healthy Tennyson behavior either, and one 'moment of brevity' case of Kenny trying to help in the fight only to 1) be very out-classed, Kevin's already holding his own against two seasoned heroes who know how he works Kenny is not gonna do anything, and 2) merely prompt the adults to start doing fucking bizarre maneuvers to fight around him while all three urge him to get out of the fucking line of fire.
But what hits Kenny, and that's the important part is hitting Kenny in all the character growth spots, is that the arguing is about Kevin taking Devlin, and Kevin's snapping against Gwen, but also involves a lot of Kevin accusing Gwen of abuse and Ben of enabling her, holding that up as the reason he did what he did, while Ben and Gwen's responses really just boil down to 'you are and were overreacting, you've gone too far, we had faith in and defended you and you tried to put the person who loves you most in traction'.
Then you add on him eventually abandoning the fight to try again with getting Devlin out of there and to safety and having him snap, not violently but emotionally, and confirm what Kevin's been saying. His mom has been abusing him, everybody seems to just ignore it or not notice, and he just wants to not deal with that anymore. He wants his dad, who he knows won't stand by and let it happen from prior experience, and he wants to be the fuck away from his mom.
And this right here is the exact point where Kenny learns and grows. He's been questioning since that first attempt to save Devlin what exactly is going on, he's been confused and concerned about the accusations being thrown around by the adults, and here is where he learns two important lessons and chooses the path he's going to take.
His dad isn't a paragon of heroics, the adults in his life can and will make bad decisions and do bad things, even if they're otherwise wonderful, and so he's going to have to align his own moral compass.
Being a hero isn't just about stopping crimes and fighting bad guys.
In the end, Kenny 'messes up', 'accidentally' giving the Levins a prime opportunity to escape, and the three of them all know it. Kevin ruffles his hair, Devlin and him exchange a quick hug, and then they're gone. Kenny doesn't know where, doesn't know if he'll ever see Devlin again, as he leaves with his dad and aunt he can only cross his fingers and hope they end up safe and happy.
End episode.
Now that I write it out, really I think this version would do better not as a one-off in Ben's show but as a season one finale or season two premiere in Kenny's. It would give a whole season in which to establish and build up Kenny and Devlin's bond, to lay the groundwork for the reveal of the truth about Devlin's homelife and for his freeing Kevin, to get Ben established on a pedestal, establish people's opinions on what goes on with Gwen and Devlin prior to the big episode.
(Gwen's staunch belief that she's just preventing Devlin from going down the wrong path like his dad did, especially after having 'failed' with Kevin himself, unable or unwilling to admit that she slipped passed that excuse and into 'and it's cathartic' years before Devlin was even born || Ben admitting wholeheartedly that Gwen can be rough with people, but insistence that what she does isn't abuse, only accentuated by feelings of regret and responsibility re: her being a single mother, since Kevin is his enemy, leading to him cutting her even more slack than he would anyway and making excuses involving how hard raising a superpowered kid alone is || Kenny, not entirely oblivious to what's going on but unknowing of the severity and, between his father's assurances that everything is fine and media's portrayal of abuse as a raised fist or neglect- neither of which he's seen- that what Devlin is dealing with is abuse at all || Devlin with his million conflicting feelings, loving his mother but- without the age, experience, and issues of his father- walking on eggshells at home, hating what he's going through, guilt because he knows other people's parents treat them worse, guilt because he knows his dad snapped out of a desire to protect him, a myriad of worth and confidence issues his mom just can't seem to figure out the source of, all heightening as the first season goes on and Kenny drags him into more trouble, increasing the odds of shit going poorly at home, until he finally can't take it-)
It would also give plenty of time following the episode to build off what Kenny's learned and see how it affects how he approaches heroing from then on. How he questions what the adults say, investigates things himself to make his own decisions. How he steps away from trying to help his dad in fighting bad guys in favor of keeping his eyes open for people in need of help that he may otherwise have overlooked.
Kenneth Tennyson, using his transformations to do shit like help in soup kitchens, no less a hero than his dad for it.

When Cole woke, he wished he didn’t.
There was nothing in this world that could hold even a candle to the fresh, fiery agony that erupted in Cole’s body in the seconds before he roused his ability from its dormancy with every ounce of will he had. The effort Cole poured into maintaining the steady flood of power to wash away his pain but even the slightest slip made him yell out and dig deeper for more.
Confusion surfaced in the back of his mind; no matter how hard he reached he couldn’t pull more to the surface; the effort left him exhausted and breathless.
His lungs burnt. They ached. They quivered and begged for air that he couldn’t give them from under a crushing weight that cut his gasps short.
A thin, drawn out cry sounded at his side.
That sounded like Pete.
Cole opened his eyes and found darkness. Blinking away the tears and dust that blinded him, he tried to turn his head and find him, but the slight movement brought pain too great for his ability to suppress.
Another whine came, punctuated by deep, shaky breaths.
“C—C—Cole,” Pete wheezed, “C—whe—"
Beyond the faint wail of sirens and shouting, Cole could hear shuffling, rocks clicking against metal and stone, and streams of sand falling through crevices and onto his face and neck. It sounded like debris, and from the way the sounds fell around him, Cole could tell the space they were in was tiny and far from fresh air.
They were trapped, but by some miracle, bigger chunks of building had must have fallen around them and created a small pocket. They were alive.  And Pete was moving. That was good.
Cole tried to focus on that between the short, sharp gasps that sent stabbing pains through his chest.
We’re alive.
I can heal. I can always heal.
“C—Cole, -re ye—are y’alrigh—” a loud groan suddenly interrupted Pete, leaving him huffing and once again scraping across the ground, curling in on himself until whatever wave of pain he felt receded. He didn’t speak again, not until his ragged, panting breaths finally slowed. “Please—please b-be alr—alright,” he breathed.
Oh...
He wanted an answer...
He could barely get any sound from his lips. “P—”
The minute movement of his of his chest jabbed knives into his chest.
Not enough.
“Pete...” he rasped, voice slow and low. I’m here. I’m awake.
The need to ensure Pete was alright overtook Cole in a heavy rush, completely overtaking any other thoughts. Was something hurting him? Pinning him? He had to get them out of here, he needed to take Pete back home and keep him away from that wretch who called herself his mother.
His legs didn’t hurt; he could use them to relieve the pressure from his chest. He could get them out. He was more than strong enough to dig their way out and use his body as a shield for the young belunae, but when he experimentally twitched his toes and move his legs, there was no response.
He called on his legs again and again, channeling the strength his ability lent him the strength to even move, but there was no response. Nothing happened, he couldn’t even feel the pain of moving them—he couldn’t feel them!
Cole’s tight breaths grew quicker and adrenaline flooded his veins. “No, no, n—nn—!” he cried, “NO!”

FR [Diptyque Ocean Stones, Ammonite n° 1 & 2] Heyyy !
🇬🇧 [Ocean Stones diptych, Ammonite no. 1 & 2] Heyyy! I’m finally done with these two illustrations! At first I wanted to do only one but I couldn’t choose between these two compositions so I eventually decided to do a diptych.. 😂 It’s my first one and I had a lot of fun! Concerning the short texts in Latin and ancient Greek, I “created” and wrote them both on my own; well, it’s probably a bit approximative but it’s good enough. I also wanted to give an “ancient mural painting” vibe but it didn’t really turned out this way.. Well it’s fine Finally, as you can see, the theme of this diptych was the ammonite, a now extinct mollusc that used to proliferate in all oceans of the world thousands of years ago; despite their very long reign on Earth (from the Devonian period to the end of the Cretaceous period), only the fossils of their shells – small ocean stones, witnesses of a distant past – remain today. I associated them with Jolyne’s mom (my beloved) because I realised that I have the tendency to draw her hair more and more like a spiral, which reminded me of ammonites’ shells! Know then that from now on, this 🐚 will be my “Jolyne’s mom emoji”

Hi there! A friend of mine linked this blog over to me recently since you talk a lot about what the crystals do, and I've been trying to get into that! If you don't mind answering, what sort of thing would you suggest for someone who suffers from a lot of brain fog and tiredness? Mine's been getting so much worse recently and nothing I've tried has helped so far, but I've been told that crystals can be really helpful for this sort of thing.
Hi there fellow Spoonie! Boy, do I feel you on the brain fog and tiredness. As a Chronic Fatigue sufferer, that's something I deal with every day too, so this one was very close to home. Hence the delay in replying - I wanted to make sure that I got the best possible collection of options for you from what I have.
Bear in mind that a lot of crystals will resonate differently for different people. For example, most people find Yooperlite to be a stress reliever, but I personally find it to be an immense energy booster, hence my including it here (no joke, when I first held one of my Yooperlite towers, I felt goosebumps all over from a literal rush of energy. Might just be that that's 'my stone', but it's worth mentioning!).
It can also often be that the stones you're drawn to are the right ones for you. You may see rose quartz, one of the most loving and calming stones and think 'I need that' for no reason at all, but it may turn out to give you exactly the brain boost you need.
Below is a short-form list of the crystals I have that I think may be most to your advantage, with simply a tag as to which aspect they may help with. If there are any others you'd like to know about, or you'd simply like me to give a more detailed profile of any of them, by all means let me know and I'll gladly use them as my next Crystals of the Day! Citrine - brain clearer; energizer
Clear Quartz - focus
Amethyst - focus
Sodalite - clarity of mind
Red Jasper - Energizer
Carnelian - A little of both aspects (brain fog clearing and energising)
Chalcedony -Energizing without being hyper (all versions)
Que Sera - All-round healer and energy balancer
Yooperlite - Stress reliever, but I find it to increase energy
I hope this helps, and regardless of what form your crystals take, I hope they help! I turned to them myself after years of being told my tiredness was 'all down to depression' and not finding any relief in medication, and while I'm far from being healed, I do find a sense of wellness from them that I didn't have before.
Thank you for the question!!

Édouard Boubat     Plutît la Vie, Paris     May, 1968
Choose life instead of those prisms with no depth even if their colors are purer Instead of this hour always hidden instead of these terrible vehicles of cold flame Instead of these overripe stones Choose this heart with its safety catch Instead of that murmuring pool And that white fabric singing in the air and the earth at the same time Instead of that marriage blessing joining my forehead to total vanity's                                               Choose life
Choose life with its conspiratorial sheets Its scars from escapes Choose life choose that rose window on my tomb The life of being here nothing but being here Where one voice says Are you there where another answers Are you there I'm hardly here at all alas And even when we might be making fun of what we kill                                               Choose life
Choose life choose life venerable Childhood The ribbon coming out of a fakir Resembles the playground slide of the world Though the sun is only a shipwreck Insofar as a woman's body resembles it You dream contemplating the whole length of its trajectory Or only while closing your eyes on the adorable storm named your hand                                               Choose life
Choose life with its waiting rooms When you know you'll never be shown in Choose life instead of those health spas Where you're served by drudges Choose life unfavorable and long When the books close again here on less gentle shelves And when over there the weather would be better than better it would be free yes                                               Choose life
Choose life as the pit of scorn With that head beautiful enough Like the antidote to that perfection it summons and it fears Life the makeup on God's face Life like a virgin passport A little town like Pont-å-Mousson And since everything's already been said                                               Choose life instead
---
The slogan “plutĂŽt la vie” (something more or less like “choose life,” or “choose life instead”) was taken from an AndrĂ© Breton poem and became one of the rallying cries of the worker/student demonstrations that rocked France in 1968.  Boubat’s photo is a simple, eloquent classic.

@davestriderpostscratch i started off with the alpha kid girls because of course i did. i’m a simple woman i see unhinged girls and i lose it. side note: these playlists are equal parts “songs the characters would listen to” and “songs that embody the general vibe of the character” i hope i got it right! (ps. it took every ounce of restraint not to add more musical theatre to these) (pps. not sorry for all the 80s music)

Nothing matches the beauty of a Latin votive or burial inscription: those few words enscribed on stone sum up with an impersonal majesty all that the world has need to know of us. It is in Latin that I have ruled the empire; my epitaph will be carved in Latin on the walls of my mausoleum on the banks of the Tiber; but it is in Greek that I shall have thought and lived.
Marguerite Yourcenar, Les mĂ©moires d’Hadrien
