#re-read
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I remember reading this when I was thirteen or so and feeling so understood. Thinking about how quickly my heart had grown, how I never got on well with my heartless cousins and classmates, always in the mood to do nothing more than read or study.
This book always comforted me, as a neurodivergent kid/teen. It understood better than any story explicitly about neurodivergence ever did, in that special way fantasy stories so often do.

Planning on re-reading the entire Spirit Animals series after school gets off. All fifteen books and three special editions. Because I cannot for the life of me remember any minor details.
I’ll probably record my thoughts during my re-read here, so stay tuned for that, I guess.

"What'll you do for me, huh, Thermopolis? What'll you do for me?" - Michael Moscovitz. This is the first attempt we see Michael try and flirt with Mia, and of course, it falls flat. (Like every other time he tries.) Poor Michael! Lilly was no help at all (as always). Her stupid experiment to see how long they would dance around each other was pathetic. She should have helped her best friend out, even if she had no desire to help her brother. (Except we do see her attempt to help her brother several times throughout the book.)
Mia mentions Michael saying, "Forget it, okay, Thermopolis?" She thinks he is saying this in disgust when really, Mia, he was just frustrated that you didn't flirt back.
This should have been the conversation: Mia: "What's up with your brother?" Lilly: "I don't know. But wasn't it truly a sad attempt to flirt with you?" Mia: "...Fl...flirt?" Lilly: "Duh." Mia: "Yeah, right, your brother flirting with me? HA!" Lilly: "Wait, don't tell me you haven't noticed?" Mia: "Well... no." Lilly: *rolls eyes* "Mia, you're so dense." The critical difference between flirting and sexual harassment is that sexual harassment is unwelcome. (We all know Mia would have enjoyed his flirting if she had known! Lilly, stop trying to spin the narrative! YOU KNOW Michael wasn't sexually harassing Mia! *rolls eyes*)
But then again, if Lilly had helped Mia become aware of Michael's attempts to flirt, we would not have gotten Book 3, and I love that book so much!

I hate it when I start really enjoying a new audiobook at work and then my shift ends and I have to wait until my next shift to keep listening because if I just listen to it at home I'll waste hours of a perfectly good work audiobook.

“I think this is what people do...”
I’ve read Anyway The Wind Blows for third time now, and this time I loved the phrase “I think this is what people do...” And the thing is that it is not only reffering to sex and relationships, but it was also about life. Simon (like he said in WS and again in ATWB) had a unique purpose in CO, defeat the humdrum, defeat any kind of threat to the World of Mages, to be The Chosen One, and that made him perceive himself as just that, as just the soldier who was going to save the day and probably die heroically. So, when he fulfilled what he believed was his destiny, he lost all of the things he always thought that made him Simon, and all of the requirements to be useful and wanted at the eyes of everyone (specially Baz) That’s why WS was so painful, because Simon felt so lost  and so detached from himself that couldn’t believe that someone could actually love him for who he was, because he didn’t know who he was. And then, ATWB is like the healing process, you can see that at the end he and Baz keep working things out, they keep finding out what they like, what they don’t, they keep finding out who they are and try to leave behind who they were supposed to be.
That’s why that phrase stood out to me this time, because it meant that he wouldn’t give up, that he also in some extend was finding out who he was and he would keep doing that. Even if he was partly doing it for Baz and their relationship, he also did it because he finally felt like he would actually have a future he could look forward to, with people who he loves and loves him back unconditionally, something that didn’t happen when he was the chosen one (Fuck the Mage)
Anyways, sorry for the rant, is just that I feel like it meant so much more than it lets on at the first time you read it, at least for me...

Hello, my name is Kells, and I’m a relapsing Homestuck.
The first time I read Homestuck through beginning to end took the length of time it took for Homestuck to be posted. I personally haven’t been interested in any post-HS content so the ‘end’ I have made it to before was the final curtain draw posted on 4/13/2016 to Homestuck.com, formerly known as mspaintadventures.com.
There is no earthly way to summarize what that experience was like at any given point I was consuming Homestuck source content or subculture, let alone over the several years it ran. So, while I won’t be attempting that, for my first post on this re-read adventure I would like to paint the contrast between the first time I started Homestuck, and the second, which is right now.
The very first time I ever read Homestuck was on a shimmer brown 2010 Dell Inspiron 14R laptop. It had a sticky right click that only worked if you shoved your finger at it like a boomer trying to flip the camera on a smartphone while filming a vine, sorry, tiktok.
I scrolled every page by clicking and holding the scroll bar on the right and using the touchpad to move up and down. I wouldn’t discover you could have a mouse at home, not just in computer labs, until 2016.
I had read webcomics, and an egregious amount of fanfiction, by the time two of my friends began talking about Homestuck during high school lunches in the library. After it became clear this wasn’t a fleeting topic, I began reading it myself. Despite the sentiment at the time being that the first act could be skipped entirely for favor of getting to know the trolls and especially troll-human interactions, I decided to start from the very beginning for fear of being too lost.
And so on a random weekday night sometime in fall of 2011, I first learned about a boy named John Egbert*.
And now, on an entirely intentional and premeditated weekday night, 4/13/2023, I will be re-introduced to a highly complex character. My thoughts on Zoosmell Pooplord to be continued on said date.
-Kells
*Sidenote, I am aware of and in support of anyone who gets any joy and/or benefit from June Egbert. For simplicity’s sake, and because this was how I originally read the comic, I will refer to the characters as they are named in the original posts. That being said, please feel free to think of Egbert however you wish when reading my posts.

Which book are you starting your weekend with?
IG: @daylafm
[ID: a photo of the book Only When It’s Us by Chloe Liese. The book is on a wooden floor under a Christmas tree and is beside a mug of hot chocolate. There is an arrow pointing at the book that says “re-reading this!” And another pointing at the mug saying “two packets of hot chocolate”.]

BNHA_Chapter 2
Okay, so my thoughts about chapter 2! Warning; rambly and barely coherent.
This is mainly a training montage chapter, and I liked it. It was neat that All Might’s "training from hell" was also about doing some good such as cleaning the beach. Izuku got stronger, but he also did some good.
Tumblr media
I do agree that the scene above is a part of what a hero is; doing good, even if the work seems thankless and isn't fancy. Though you'll have to tell me whether or not this would actually get Izuku in shape. I also like the peek into All Might’s brainpower as he was able to come up with the perfect training schedule for Izuku twice.
Tumblr media
It's neat that Izuku earns his power by showing that he was willing to do the work to become a decent vessel.
Tumblr media
(Yes you did baby! Don’t forget that ever!)
(By the way, was All Might flirting in that "where’s-waldo" swimsuit? Or was he just flustered? I don't think we ever saw him flirt in the manga.)
Tumblr media
The best part was seeing how Izuku’s determination impresses All Might for the first time. In the last chapter All Might was impressed by Izuku’s “self-sacrificing spirit,” but here he sees Izuku’s determination to become stronger so he can be a hero like All Might.
Tumblr media
This may seem small, but this is one of the things that come to inspire All Might in the future. This is also where we first learn that All Might feels that it's important that the world think he’s a natural-born hero.
Tumblr media
(Do we ever find out why he feels that way? I mean, we learn that he doesn’t want to tell the world about OFA because others might force him to give it up. Is that it? Because I think there’s more to it. Was that ever explored?) Also, look at Giraffe Might!
Tumblr media
Bakugou is only here for one scene yay. To be nice and fair, it seems that Bakugou slightly appreciates Izuku saving him as, despite knowing that Izuku still tends to go to UA, he doesn’t do anything to him
Tumblr media
(and the next chapter notes he didn’t bully him in over a year). It’s small, but it’s nice that at the very least he’s keeping his distance and letting Izuku pursue his dream without threats. I’ll go more into this next time. Not much to say here. It was a decent chapter showing the dadmight bond growing and Izuku’s determination.

what if i risked my life and put up (affectionate) with your unhinged monsterfucker brother to save you. and then revealed i was an expert in illegal black magic just so i could resurrect you from a pile of bones. and what if i later explored your body in the bath. and you laced our fingers together and offered to share your energy with me. and what if after all that… there was only one bed. what then.
update: it's been ANIMATED. gifs here

>>> Risk ineffable husbands, 7 pages
here's a little comic, it's not completely show!gomens compliant but its headcanons i enjoy
comic notes under cut :)
I enjoy Az already realising he likes Crowley by the time Adam appears but hasn't yet worked out what to do with that information bc acts-of-service Crowley Can't Talk, Wont Talk.
Crowley on the other hand has been VERY GOOD at ignoring why he spends so much of his time around Az so only on the crux of YOU'RE GOING TO LOOSE HIM did anything manage to force its way through to his brain. (i did not enjoy crowley being told he was in love with az in s2, i think he could have worked it out himself)
i rly enjoy hcs where they started sleeping together and with humans for fun (i mean the ox ribs scene sets some v good precedent for this) az sleeps with humans bc he indulges! he likes pleasure! crowely on the other hand is very bad at catching feelings and doesnt like it when they die so has mostly only slept with az (did i mention he's VERY good at ignoring his feelings) but they probably haven't slept together for a few hundred years when adam pops up.
my compliant show!hcs are still that az knows he loves crowley (i mean the scene with jim where he leaps out of the chair to attempt to protect crowley saying no he defo doesnt know ANYONE who he feels that way with, don't look closely at anyone he is with) and is just sort of sitting on it still, waiting for any hint from crowley, planning a ball definitely only for humans and no other reason. Crowley is obviously very protective of Az but he still hasn't clicked why he's worried about him but he doesn't have the excuse of heaven or hell anymore so it wouldn't have taken much for him to work it out (hello one of his first lines in s2 is "you ever think, what's the point?" the point is love you idiot)
(book!gomens is just they're already married and have been fucking for centuries but the book just doesnt mention that.)

ok I totally forgot how teen romance-y the Demon King books were, I admit it. Must've been my teenage ace/aro brain just glossing over all that. The first time I read it in high school romance was about as real to me as wizards. All I really cared about was Han and his impossibly cool 16 year old street lord charm. I didn't wanna date him—I wanted to be him like I wanted to be every cool hero character. Raisa wasn't bad either for a snotty princess. All of these 16 year olds running around fretting about marriage prospects just hit different on the re-read. There's still a lot I like about the story but did it have to be so.... child-marriage-y? I guess it was a Twilight contemporary. All the romance novel trappings I didn't notice before made it seem like a totally different book than the one I read when I was younger. Didn't hate it but I'd rate it 'didn't age as well as I hoped.'

"There is something so massive, stable, and almost irresistibly imposing in the exterior presentment of established rank and great possessions, that their very existence seems to give them a right to exist; at least, so excellent a counterfeit of right, that few poor and humble men have moral force enough to question it, even in their secret minds."
from The House of the Seven Gables by Nathaniel Hawthorne
