UPDATE: All hope is not lost!!!

So, I know a lot of people don't use Twitter because it's a warzone, but I do (for TTTE reasons), and while checking out the RWBY tag, I came across something rather interesting.

So, there is a Youtuber named Dillon Goo, (I'll just call him Goo for short), who used to work on RWBY. I actually follow him on Youtube, and his skills in animation are immaculate. And, on Twitter, he has brought up the idea of him buying the rights to RWBY from WB.

Now, if this were to happen, RWBY would go back into the hands of it's original creators, or most of them anyways. It's very likely that they would return the show back to what it once was and maybe even reboot it with new animation and go back to writing the series the way it should have been written, and not the deviant mess we all have today.

If you all really want the show back, we need to band together and support Goo if he really is serious about buying the rights to RWBY. RWBY!Twitter has already risen up in support of Goo and the former animators of RWBY retaking the show. If you are all in support of this endeavor, you need to do the following:

Seriously! Get the word out there! RT may have disbanded, but that doesn't mean things have to go to shit. I know I said in my last post that we don't need big corps and that at least we'll have fanmade content if RWBY does end (and I still stand by this), but if there's even the smallest chance of saving something dear to you, then it is worth it. If WB is allowed to keep RWBY, then we are in for one heck of a reckoning. And it's one we won't even like.

I can give you the RWBY rundown if you'd like me to, or you can definitely go look it up! I'd recommend checking out the Red, White, Black, and Yellow trailers to get a feel for the General Universe and such. the trailers are essentially animated shorts that introduce the characters of the show, but they're also a very good introduction to the lore, weapons, and other stuff you'll find in the show itself so I highly recommend giving them a watch! (also because they're really really really cool!) but if you want to learn more (for au purposes) I can totally fill you in or you can research on your own if you prefer! just let me know bestie ❤

(another set of animated shorts you can watch are the fanmade SLVR trailers by Mark Zhang. they ARE fanmade, with Mark's OCs, but they're so well-made that the RWBY fandom pretty much considers them official lmao! they're not essential to understand the show since they're just a fan project, but they're so fucking epic that I'm recommending them if you want to see some really cool weapons and fight sequences!)

Monty Oum & What RWBY Means to Me

5 years ago, the RWBY and Rooster Teeth community was stricken with the tragic news that Monty Oum had passed away at the young age of 33. He was a very talented young man with a knack for creating some of the most bizarre yet fucking awesome concepts, his fan films Haloid and Dead Fantasy, his work on Red vs Blue Seasons 8-10 are considered landmarks in the show’s history and RWBY is now one of Rooster Teeth’s top franchises.

Today, I want to honour him and show the world that they’re missing a bright star.

A Brief History of Monty Oum

Monty Oum was born in Providence, Rhode Island in 1981. A highschool dropout, he was making fan animations as early as 2002, with his most famous, Haloid, being released in 2007.

This got him noticed by many people in the gaming industry and he even managed to get a job at Midway Games and later Bandai Namco as a combat designer in 2008. However, he soon realised that the gaming industry wasn’t as appealing to him as he thought, so he left to peruse filmmaking.

In 2010 he met with Bernie Burns from Rooster Teeth and was hired as lead animator for their hit series, Red vs Blue, for their 8th season.

Now I’m not familiar with Red vs Blue, outside of a few clips that my friends showed to me back in college. But from what I’ve seen, Monty brought a level of energy for Seasons 8-10, featuring a lot of his signature stylistic fight choreography. It was during this time that he had an idea for his own series that he wanted to make. He pitched it to Bernie, who agreed to it if he could deliver Season 10 of Red vs Blue.

Once Season 10 wrapped up, featuring Elijah Wood no less, Monty teamed up with his friends and fellow Rooster Teeth employees, Kerry Shawcross and Miles Luna, and created his crown jewell; RWBY.

RWBY

Between late 2012 and mid 2013, four trailers were released promoting a new series for Rooster Teeth. These featured four girls wearing elaborate and colourful outfits, an anime styled aesthetic, kickass music and the epic fight sequences that would soon become synonymous with this series. The trailers were named after the colours associated with each of the characters; Red, White, Black and Yellow. It would later be revealed to coincide with their names; Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna and Yang Xiao Long.

Once the final trailer hit, it was announced that the premiere of the first episode would be held at the next RTX Event. Following the premiere, the series would be released on a weekly basis on Rooster Teeth’s YouTube channel and their own website. 7 seasons later, RWBY has proved to be a huge hit and has since become Rooster Teeth’s flagship series.

I first heard about RWBY when my friend showed it to me in college back in early 2014. Before heading to my first lesson early in the morning, he took out his phone and showed me this cool trailer of a cute girl killing demonic wolves with a scythe-gun. My jaw was on the floor and I was really impressed with it. He told me that it was part of this new anime series and that I should give it a watch. Unfortunately I never did, as I was busy with other anime and TV shows at the time.

Then 2 years later, tragedy struck. During one of our weekly sessions in our anime club, it was announced by my friend and leader of the club, that Monty Oum had unfortunately passed away. For the rest of the day, we dedicated ourselves to watching the original four trailers and some clips of Red vs Blue in his honour.

I was shocked to say the least, especially considering the fact that I wasn’t very familiar with his work at the time. But from watching glimpses of his work, I could tell that he had so much talent and passion and he was dedicated to leaving his mark on the world.

Fast forward a few years later into 2018, I was at my lowest point. I returned home to my parents and reconnected with my family again after a period of isolation. After a rough patch, which I’ll talk about another time, I was beginning to feel like myself again and it was on one faithful day that I decided to boot up YouTube and watch RWBY.

Not only did I love it, I was hooked! The characters, the storyline, the influences from fairy tales and mythology, the anime aesthetic, the fight scenes and the music. I loved it all and watching it brought back a creative spark in me that I didn’t feel in quite a long time. Throughout 2019, I was hit with new motivation to resume my own project; a novel series inspired by superheroes and mythology. Alongside that, I also delved deep into the RWBY fandom and discovered a whole host of amazing fan-content such as comics, fan art, cosplayers, fanmade music, AMVs and of course, fanfiction.

RWBY fanfiction really cemented my love for the series and it moved me how much fans looked up to Monty and his creation. Their expression of love through this medium was heartwarming, to say the least and their creative passion really shone through with their own alternate takes on RWBY lore. But at the same time, all the admiration I had was accompanied by guilt. I felt so horrible that I never looked to Monty Oum or watched RWBY much sooner and I if I could go back in time, I’d watch RWBY when it first started airing.

Even beyond the amazing fan content, I’ve also met great friends through this fandom and many of them on tumblr and Discord. We share ideas, theories and our own works because this series and the man who made it filled our hearts with joy.

So to Monty Oum, I thank you for creating such a wonderful series and inspiring me to get back into writing. Thank you for building a community where other creators can get together and share their works through you. Your legacy will live on, through us and through RWBY. My wish is to become a creator that’s just as talented, inspiring and amazing as you.

R.I.P Monty Oum. 1981-2015. We will carry on your spirit, as fans and as aspiring creators.

You know sometimes I find myself dumbfounded with the sheer grow RWBY had as a show from its start as a fanmade 3d anime style webshow to being one of the biggest animated show on the internet collaborating with other famous voice actors and writers to improve in the span of a few years. I remember when the episodes were like 5 minutes each and now its closer to the 20 linutes mark. And despite its up and down I still love it and it keeps improving.

My various thoughts and opinions on Chapter 7 of RWBY Volume 6, "The Grimm Reaper"

Hmm, so despite Cinder's single-minded drive to kill Ruby, she hasn't forgotten that Salem wants her alive. So her plan is to have Neo kill Ruby instead as a bullshit technicality so that Cinder doesn't get in trouble with Salem. Right, good luck with that, Cinder. Let's see how well that goes for you.

I find it disappointing that, despite having several minutes of screentime so far, Neo's eyes have yet to change color in any way.

Wow. The Nevermore flying at a young Maria from out of the mist is probably one of the most cinematic shots we've seen so far in this show. I love it.

I must say, while current elderly Maria is in no way bad-looking, her younger form is...kinda hot. And by 'kinda' I mean incredibly.

The way Maria uses her scythes and the way they attract each other reminds me of the 'Viridian' trailer from the fanmade 'SLVR' series. It was awesome there, and it's awesome now.

So this obvious-Tick-Tock-the-Crocodile allusion, Tock, she mentions that her boss wants Maria dead. Is she one of Salem's goons from this time era? Did Maria know about Salem before meeting Jinn? I really would like to know just how in the know Maria is.

Props to Melissa Sternenberg. That scream of pain was spine tingling. Damn, Tock's death was brutal. I guess that's what you get for taking to taunt a wounded, cornered warrior, but still. Damn.

Question, if Qrow based his weapon on Maria's, why does is the resemblance more prominent in Crescent Rose?

It is now official. We are getting a "Maria trains Ruby in the Art of Silver Eyes" arc. Really can't wait for that.

Terra Cotta? Really? Come on guys, even for RWBY, that is just blatant. Also, more gay is always cool.

"Shut up there's FOOD!" I see Ruby is steadfast in being the voice of reason in these trying times Ok, when they talked about things not going well with the Atlas military base, I expected it cutting to everyone being arrested, rather than them simply shutting the door in their faces. Still, I suppose it was too much to hope for anything to go that easily.

Man, I had high hopes for this episode, and even then they managed to exceed them to an extreme level. This has been the volume that just keeps on giving, and I can not wait to see what happens next.

Jora is a young girl who is also on a road trip with her family the Lockenkys. The twist is that she knows Ben's secret identity but likes to pretend she doesn't. Over time she admits it and decided to help out more stopping bad guys by using her own strange powers for good. Eventually, she becomes a superhero in her home town named The Midnight Foilage.

- If Jora was the star of her own show, her theme song would be Let's Just Live (RWBY) as the opening and Tobira wo Akete (Card Captor Sakura) as the ending theme. I don't watch the former but I do love both songs and feel that they could be good themes for her.

- Originally Jora was named Kaysha but I changed it to a name that fits the nature of her powers, as well as it's uniqueness and for the fact that I didn't want her nickname to sound similar to Kai.

- Jora and Ben are a couple because I do not like BenKai. Also, I think they might make a cute couple, much healthier than BenKai or any of Ben's relationships for that matter.

- Jora's name means "Autumn rain" in Hebrew

- It is unknown how Jora got her powers but she is not the only one in her family. Her cousin Pattibelle also has powers.

- Jora is technically an AU character since the Continuity is my fanmade one taking elements from UAF and Omniverse. So she would never exist in canon

- Jora took to wearing a beanie in her teen years before switching to a hippie headband by the time the 10k future rolls in

- Jora doesn't have an archnemesis*

- Jora believes that people can be redeemed. However, she doesn't believe in picking favorites and rather give the benefit of the doubt than giving certain people treatment, so she actively helps Elena and Sunny with their problems

- Jora eventually gets an animal familiar, a beetle named Beatrice

- Jora named herself the Midnight Foilage because she is mostly active at midnight and she foils the villains plans. It's also a pun on her power set.

- 10k!Jora looks like a stereotypical swamp witch but is actually very friendly if weird.

- Jora's favorite colors are black, pink, and orange

- Jora is tall for her age and towers over much of the cast as a young woman, before Ben got his growth spurt

- Jora's motif is the season fall, swamps, and fashion

- Jora designed the future characters' costumes

- Jora and her family are more like comic relief characters but unlike a lot of comic characters they actually have depth and development

- Jora's surname is a pun on the term "lock and key." This highlights her role as a Secret Keeper for the Tennysons as well as her deisre to keep her own weird powers a secret. It also refers to a glamoring spell Gwen gave her as a birthday gift where she uses a lock and key to shift into her Midnight Foilage form

- Jora is African American but I wanted to avoid the common tropes often associated with black women in the media (aka the Sassy Black Woman) which is why she has a more softer, gentler personality. Also her timid personality makes her stand out from the hammy boldness many Ben 10 characters tend to have.

- I left the origins of her powers unexplained because I wanted to be left to reader interpretation. I think a problem with Ben 10 was that some things SHOULD have been left unexplained for the sake of mystery or to allow the fans coming up with their own theories instead of trying to justify every paranormal occurrence as "aliens did it."

- Jora took sewing class just to make her own costumes. She also goes into thrift stores to find clothes that she can repurpose. All in all she has five variations of her costume

- For the sake of everyone's sanity, including my own, there will be no love triangle. Jora doesn't involve herself in that kind of mess nor does she see Ben as a trophy. If she thinks a love triangle is about to start she backs out immediately

- Jora is not afraid of many things actually. She does have a bit of a scaredy-cat reaction when she first encounters scary things but other than that she tries to keep her calm

* This might be subjected to change as I'm currently thinking on what (Original) villains she can fight
