COPY + PASTING GIFS IN BETA EDITOR
AND HOW TO AVOID THE IMAGE URL APPEARING BELOW THE GIF. i know that for a lot of roleplayers, storing loads of gifs on computers or external hard drives just isn’t feasible. what i’ve seen a lot of since the switch over to beta, is (particularly legacy) roleplayers complaining about the fact that when copy and pasting gifs for threads, there is a new link that shows up beneath the image once the post has been made. this tutorial explains how you can avoid saving your gifs, and not have the image url on your gifs in your new threads.
before you even start copy and pasting gifs, as a gif maker it is my duty to remind you to check the rules of the maker, that you can use the gifs that way and for the themes the thread contains! gif makers spend hours upon hours producing their content, so please be polite and adhere to their rules. thank you!
in legacy editor, users were able to copy and paste gifs via the image url without much issue. when following that same process using the beta editor (which is now widely being rolled out), the following happens:
Tumblr media
for some reason, we end up with the url sitting below the image of the gif, and it just kind of takes away from the thread. i for one find it distracting, and also doesn’t look particularly great to me. while this is only an issue on the dash/dash view of blogs, i’ve had a number of people express their discontent with it. in order to get your gifs looking how they did in legacy, while you are editing the post you will see a link button appear in the bottom left of the gif when you hover over it:
Tumblr media
by clicking on that button, it pulls up the image url of the gif you’ve just pasted. you can delete that link, and the gif still remains on the post. just make sure once you delete the link you click done or else it won’t delete.
Tumblr media
you can then save your post to your drafts (i recommend just to check it worked) and you’ll see that the link below the image has gone.
Tumblr media
like so! i know this tutorial is purely for the aesthetics of it all and not necessarily functional, but sometimes that’s how it is! if you do wish to look at other tutorials of how to use the beta editor, i’ve included some reference links below:

Hiii ! Here to request again lol ! These are just some ideas, but part 2 to the mafia dream meeting you or like, the two other units meeting you (doesn't matter if you're in the mafia too or not) pleaaase ?
✰ 𝕞𝕒𝕗𝕚𝕒!𝕕𝕣𝕖𝕒𝕞 𝕣𝕖𝕒𝕔𝕥𝕚𝕠𝕟 ✰ | seeing you again after you met in the middle of a mission
This is a part two to another reaction I did a while back! Under different circumstances, you and the boys are once again brought together. My mafia works often contain violence, blood, alcohol, & other similar themes, although none in excess. Please always feel free to reach out with specific questions & about what content warnings you’d like in the future! I’m trying to catch up on requested content & drafts! Thank you for your patience & support.  Enjoy~
Check out part one or my m.list!
Mark
Tumblr media
When you met him, he essentially saved your ass and you were grateful for the head start he gave you. After your former best friend amassed gambling debt with an organized crime group, she disappeared and left you to be collateral. Mark should’ve taken you, but he offered you a warning instead.
He didn’t need to tell you twice. It’s been a few months since he showed up in your apartment to kidnap you and you’re living in a new city, under a new name, with the upmost caution at all times.
You’re cooking dinner in your temporary apartment when you hear someone kick at your front door. Knowing you only have a moment, you snap into action and run to your bedroom. They’re in the apartment in seconds, just behind you.
“Y/N!” a man screams. “You did a good little job evading us, but your fun’s over now! Are you we gonna do this the easy way or the hard way? I won’t hurt you unless you make me.”
Your fingers tremble, but you force yourself to focus. There’s too much at stake. And you can hear another pair of feet behind him. I can do this, you think. No big deal.
The man takes a step down the hallway toward your room, then a voice behind him makes you gasp. “Leave her alone, dude. We talked about this.”
There’s absolutely no way, but you know it’s him.
“I want my money and I’m gonna get it, you prick. Don’t get in my way.”
Mark sighs. “That would be a mistake.”
“I’ll ask for your forgiveness with a load of cash in my hands, then.” The man takes another step toward your doorway. He’s close now. Mark doesn’t say anything else. He’s just going to let him come for you. “Little birdie, where are you?”
When he steps into your view, you’re ready. The gun fires and hits home, causing him to stagger back against the wall in shock. And drop his own gun. You dash forward, kicking it far away from him. “Get out of my fucking home before I put one in your skull. And leave me the hell alone. I didn’t do anything! Go find her instead of me, ass hat. She’s in fucking Madrid, if you need any direction.”
His face clenches in fury as he turns and walks away, cussing you out under his breath. You cock the gun again, because there’s still another man you don’t fully trust in your apartment. “That goes for you, too, Mark.”
“I was here to look out for you!” he says, stepping into your view.
If you pulled the trigger right now, it would hit his sternum. “Jack shit that did. Try harder next time.”
“Okay,” he says, conceding. “I’ll get them off your tail for good this time, but you should move again just to be safe, all right? I hear that Costa Rica is gorgeous.”
“I’ll be going somewhere else that you’ve never heard of. Now, go. And thanks, I guess.”
He turns. “Yup, of course. Always a pleasure catching up with you, Y/N.”
Renjun
Tumblr media
The morning after raiding one of his enemies’ mansions, he’s shaving his face over the custom made onyx countertop in their master bathroom when one of his colleagues knocks on the door.
“Renjun!” she says. “You’re going to want to see this. Meet us in the kitchen when you’re ready.”
Hastily, he rinses the leftover shaving cream off his face, drying it with one of their hundred dollar towels—damn, he seriously needs to invest in some of these—and throwing open the door to catch her before she leaves. “I’m ready. Explain while we walk.”
“So everything went perfectly last night and the Yangs are no longer an obstacle for our operations,” she explains, the inevitable “but” at the back of her throat. Renjun can feel a catch coming as they take the stairs. “Well, almost everything. Apparently, a housekeeper was unaccounted for and she’s rather intent on obtaining the Yangs’ whereabouts. We thought it best not to tell her that their bodies are sunk in the Han river without your input.”
Renjun opens the French doors separating the foyer from the kitchen. “Hello again, sweetheart. A moment alone with her, please.”
“What the hell did you do to them?” you cry, struggling against the ropes that bind you to a chair at the breakfast table. “I want to see them!”
He sits down across from you, interlacing his fingers on the dark wooden table. “Look, you’ve put me in a tricky situation. I told you to drop it, yet here you are. What am I supposed to do with you now, hmm? If I let you go, will you contact the authorities?”
     “Immediately.”
Renjun puts his head in his hands and takes a moment of silence. His next words come out muffled. “You’re supposed to at least pretend to say ‘no.’ Haven’t you ever watched a crime show before?”
“Screw you!” You thrash some more. “You won’t get away with this, you monster.”
One hand goes over his heart. “Now you’re hurting my feelings. The Yangs are much worse than me, I assure you. You won’t make this simple for me, will you?”
     “Go to hell.”
“Okay, great,” he says, “so I believe you’re going to have to stay with me for a little while until we come to a more civil agreement. What kind of arrangements shall I prepare for you? I have a very nice guest room in my home.”
“My family will go to the police.”
“I’ll take care of that, don’t worry. They won’t know anything happened. Is there anyone else I should contact on your behalf?”
     You stare, defiant.
“If you prefer them to end up wrapped in this mess and in the ground, that’s fine, as well.”
You huff. “My best friends. You’ll see our group chat in my contacts. One of your girls took my phone already, so.”
“There we go,” he coos, leaning forward. “You’re learning to be good.”
Jeno
Tumblr media
It’s a week night and you’re sitting on the couch watching a movie that’s not very interesting. When your doorbell rings, you frown and set your bowl of soup down on a side table. You aren’t expecting anyone, but you answer anyway.
It’s the boy from the mobster-sister-revenge-killing situation you got caught in the middle of and tried to block out completely. Your eyes scan the area behind him to see if he’s brought anyone else. “What are you doing here?”
“Hey, I wanted to talk to you about something,” he says, hands shifting in the pocket of his blue zip-up hoodie. He looks so mundane, standing in your doorway in the moonlight, for a sophisticated criminal.
You start to ease the door shut. “You can’t be here. That was like a one-time thing—letting you come here to rest and eat—because you looked like hell and, honestly, I was still in shock, but you’ve got to go now.”
“Wait, please,” he says, his voice gentle enough to bring up a wave of sympathy for him. You nod. “Thanks. I just—did you go to the police about me?”
That’s not what you were expecting. “Uh, no? That was like a month ago. Why would I call them now?”
“Okay, awesome. Somebody else must’ve seen what happened, then. I had to know if it was you. I couldn’t believe you’d do that.”
You cross your arms. “You don’t even know me. But, no, I didn’t say anything and I’m not going to. It’s over. So, if you don’t mind . . . good night.”
“Yeah, right,” he says sheepishly. “Good night, Y/N. Thank you for everything.”
The way he almost seems shy and unsure of himself makes your brows furrow. Is this actually the same guy who claimed to be a gang member? “Yeah, whatever. Are you, like, okay? You’re acting weird.”
“No, it’s nothing.” He scratches the back of his neck. “It’s just, do you think we could maybe, like, go out sometime or something?”
“No!” you say. “I don’t go out with gang members, dude. It’s not gonna happen.”
There’s a hint of a smirk on his lips. “Never? Not even if I took you to eat somewhere nice?”
“Okay, maybe next Friday.” A smug expression dominates his entire pretty face. “Go! Leave before I change my mind. Seven o’clock!”
Haechan
Tumblr media
Since the stunningly attractive boy approached you outside a cafe two weeks ago, your life has brightened up considerably. Your friends have caught you jumping in excitement each time your phone buzzes and smiling at your phone. It should be embarrassing how much you’re starting to like him, but you simply can’t help it. He’s just so goddamn charming.
You’re waiting for him to pick you from your front steps. There’s already a grin on your face and butterflies in your stomach. When his car pulls into the driveway, you wave.
To your surprise, he steps out of the car. “You look beautiful.”
“Thank you,” you say, blushing as he opens the car door for you. “I like your shirt.”
It’s a patterned button-up that suits his figure well. As you head toward the mini golf place, you feel like a fool for a second when you realize how crazy he must think you are. You won’t stop grinning and you’re already in the palm of his hand, but you barely know him.
Then you catch him looking over at you the exact same way, smiling to himself. “I think I should tell you now that Haechan is a nickname, not my real name. Can’t start this off with dishonesty.”
“Oh? And what’s your real name?”
“Can I trust you?” After your easy nod, he shares a conspiratorial look with you. “It’s Donghyuck.”
“A pretty name for a pretty boy,” you say, pointing to a flashing sign. “That’s the place on the right.”
He pulls the car into a spot near the front of the dirt lot, cutting the engine and turning to you. “Tell me, was it the sister-in-law in the end?”
“Yes, it was!” You’re flattered he remembered the topic of your very first conversation. “I’m reading the sequel now. The main character got help from a childhood friend and she’s still running for her life.”
When you glance over at him, you expect to find the polite but ingenuine interest most have whenever you mention books, but his full attention is on you—and it’s not just to be polite. In this moment, you think to yourself, god, how did I get so lucky?
Jaemin
Tumblr media
After a stressful week of laundering money and evading capture by his enemies, Jaemin is happy to finally have a day off. He’s come to try a new coffee shop that he researched on the internet. When he saw the pictures of the interior and the latte art, he knew he had to come here.
The person ordering in front of him steps aside, so he clears his throat and looks up at the menu board handwritten in chalk.
“Hi, what can I get started for you today?” Your eyes meet and you stare at one another, dumbfounded. “Oh, it’s you.”
“And it’s you,” he echoes. “I didn’t know you were a barista! I’m glad to see you back in superb health.”
Your tone is light. “No thanks to you. What can I get you?”
“Surprise me. As long as it’s heavily caffeinated and dairy-free.”
As you punch in the information on the tablet register, you hold a smile. “This one’s on me. Consider it payback for the free check-up.”
“Thank you.” He watches you scribble something onto a cardboard cup, moving along the counter with you as you make his drink. “How have you been?”
“I’m fine,” you say. “I’ve been working a lot, but I love my job, so it’s not so bad. You?”
He leans against the counter. “Lots of work for me, too. This is my day off, actually. How long have you been working here? This place is so cool.”
“Almost a year now. I started out doing all the menu art.”
Jaemin catches another glance of the chalkboard, with its loopy writing and shaded drawings. “Oh, wow. You’re good.”
“Thanks.” You hand him a cup over the counter. “Here, it’s a red velvet latte with oat milk. Enjoy.”
Your hands touch as he accepts the drink. His hand is warm. “Excellent drink, excellent customer service. I’ll have to come here more often, I think.”
“I’ll look forward to it,” you say. “Until next time . . .”
     “Jaemin.”
     “See you around, Jaemin.”
Chenle
Tumblr media
That night, he really believed there could be something between you two. If it hadn’t been for his mission to catch a target, he would’ve spent the whole night with you. Alas, his business card and a flirty grin is all he left you with.
Honestly, the fact that you never called hurts his ego. Chenle thought he had you in the bag. Her loss, he thinks to himself as he sips a glass of expensive wine on his yacht. It’s been three weeks and not a whisper from you.
A noise from the dock gets his attention. “Mark! It took you long enough, man.”
He stands up and puts his glass down on the coffee table, ready to embrace his friend, but the sliding door shatters and shards of glass rain down on him. Everything happens too quickly—someone’s in the room with him and he’s on the ground. Looking up, his eyes narrow.
You smile down at him, but the look is evil. “Sorry I didn’t call. Been busy.”
“Don’t tell me I’m about to have to kill you,” he says, masking his surprise as best he can, “it’d be such a shame to watch the light go out of those pretty eyes.”
“Relax, I’m not here to kill you.” You reach for his wine glass and take a long swig, then put it back on the table. “I’m just going to need the keys to this boat. Oh, and your little Tesla out there, too.”
Sitting up, he runs his tongue over his lip and gives you a nasty glare. “So you aren’t working for Crystal Company after all. Who are you working for?”
“Don’t worry yourself with that,” you say, voice smooth as velvet as you examine the contents of a bookshelf, pocketing a few odd figurines. “And don’t move again or I’ll introduce this machete to your kidneys.”
“Whatever they’re paying you, I’ll pay you double.” Chenle crosses his arms, reaching for his wine. You lift your weapon, but he puts an arm up. “Just trying to relax . . . Y/N, wasn’t it? You obviously have a valuable skillset. I’d like to have you on my team.”
Knocking the wine out of his hand and onto the floor, you grab his chin, forcing him to look in your eyes. “I’m listening.”
“How much are they paying you?”
“I want two hundred thousand,” you say, to which he nods. “And, I’d like the Tesla.”
Chenle rolls his eyes. “Fine, whatever, now let go of me before I change my mind and let you rob me instead. You know, you were really smart. Hiding in plain sight during that ball.”
“My intellect is all yours now, for a rather generous compensation, and perhaps a nice dinner?”
He stares at you, then laughs. “Are you flirting with me? After you just tried to steal my shit? Unbelievable.”
     “Fine, I like a challenge.”
“Then you’ve come to the right place.”
Jisung
Tumblr media
Jisung’s face remains expressionless. “How did you find my address?”
“I did internet research,” you say dismissively. “Anyway, I came to ask for your help.”
“Okay?” His confusion is transparent. He motions toward the bench on his front porch. “Do you want to sit?”
The both of you settle next to each other in uneasy silence. “Will you testify in court about the night I was attacked?”
Instantly, a thousand thoughts swim through Jisung’s head, most of them screams. He knows that getting anywhere near the law is a bad idea for someone like him, should they get even slightly curious about his background. Plus, he was literally out searching for a person he kidnapped that night.
“Umm, I’m not sure,” he says, tensing. “So it’s going to trial soon, then?”
You nod. “Three weeks. I want justice for what she did to me. You’re the only other witness. Please, I really need you. My story won’t make sense without you and they might subpoena you regardless once everything comes out.”
“Shit, they definitely will. Look, I wasn’t up to my best behavior before I ran into that night, so we’re going to have to figure out that part of the story. It won’t make me look good.”
“My attorney can help,” you assure. “She’s really good and you’re not the one on trial. She can prep you. This really means a lot to me, so I appreciate it. Here, take this.”
He lets you put the sticky note in his hand. “Is this . . . ?”
You stand as if to go. “Her number is the second one. Mine’s the first. In case you need anything. You did literally save my life, so it doesn’t really matter to me if you were out buying pot or something before you did it.”
“Close enough,” he says. “I’ll call you tomorrow about getting our story straight?”
“That works. Thank you! Seriously.” You’re on the sidewalk now. “Good night, Park Jisung.”
“Did you find my social security number while you were investigating me, too?”
Your face is taken over by smugness. “I was totally gonna use it to blackmail you into testifying if you hadn’t agreed.”
“Now you know I won’t ghost you,” he jokes. “Good night!”

🌟 New
We’ve made some style tweaks to the tags in the beta post editor on web to make it easier to drag and drop them, now that they’re editable.
We’re scaling back how many blogs can use our new Tweet auto-importing experiment; the option won’t be available for blogs who aren’t eligible anymore.
Video embeds from VideoPress are now supported on Tumblr.
🛠 Fixed
We’ve fixed an issue that was causing translations to not load correctly sometimes, most evident in the dashboard tabs.
Fixed a bug in the beta post editor on web that was truncating long tags when editing them, the editor now prevents entering a tag that’s too long.
Fixed a different bug in the beta post editor on web that was accidentally causing auto-saved drafts to stick around even after intentionally discarding the post in the editor.
We’ve been experimenting with a new link redirect service (those at.tumblr.com links) which was erroneously sending people to the App Store instead of the intended destination. We’ve fixed that issue.
Fixed a bug on web that was causing Spotify embeds to be a little too tall.
🚧 Ongoing
Nothing to report here today.
🌱 Upcoming
We held another internal hackathon this week at Tumblr! Stay tuned to the @engineering blog to read about the things we built, sometime next week.
Experiencing an issue? File a Support Request and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can!
Want to share your feedback about something? Check out our Work in Progress blog and start a discussion with the community.

Thank you to everyone who voted on the Make Me Write Poll! I successfully (but slowly) managed to write 49 sentences of '24 Hour Diner'. So as a thanks, have a preview of the now-slightly-reworked intro 💜💜
For reasons incomprehensible and truly annoying — Eddie wrote best in the middle of the night. And thanks to his insomnia, he had the opportunity to do so regularly. So he’d give up on sleep, put on shoes, and head down to Benny’s 24 hour diner to try and get some writing done. Might as well do something productive.
It’s almost always empty — save for Benny — and maybe it’s the background noises from the kitchen, or the TV he has playing quietly, but Eddie always writes a lot more than he ever does at home. He’d write some some lyrics, work on a D&D campaign, start drafting that novel he always talked about writing. Plus the food was incredible. Or maybe it just seemed incredible considering it was cheap, open in the middle of the night, and close to his apartment. Either way, Eddie would end up at Benny’s at 3am in the morning, dead tired, chow down on some eggs and bacon, and write quietly. He had a system and it worked. For the most part.
Benny doesn’t care if he shows up in his paint-stained sweats, or his Garfield pyjama pants. The waitresses won’t judge when he orders his third cup of coffee and then loads it with entirely too much sugar. They let him claim a booth and then stay there for hours.
People come and go, chat with Benny, get some food, and then disappear again. People working night shifts. Groups of semi-drunk college students. He watches them sometimes. When the words get stuck, and forcing them on paper feels like pulling teeth. Occasionally, he turns them into NPC’s for his next DnD game. Makes them up a backstory, a world of their own, and places them in his ever-growing fantasy world.
He never sees the same group of people twice. Eddie’s the only regular.
Until he isn’t.
There’s this one guy, and he keeps showing up. Sometimes he’s already there when Eddie arrives. Others, he shows up hours after Eddie. A new regular. Eddie isn’t quite sure what the dude’s schedule is — but he knows he must have one — since he seems to be there pretty consistently.
He looks Eddie’s age — or thereabouts — and looks as tired as Eddie feels, but in a hot-guy, sexy-dishevelled sort of way. He makes it work, the bastard. His swoopy brown hair was once carefully styled — he looks the type — but it’s now starting to hang over his forehead, limp and greasy. Hot guy brings his arm up, running his hand through his hair, pushing it out of his face. Eddie knows it’s to genuinely get the hair out of his face — greasy hair in your eyes is a bitch — but it looks like such a fucking move. Like any second now he’ll look at Eddie out of the corner of his eye and wink.

Not sure if I’ve ever clarified, forgive me if I already have as my memory isn’t the greatest- the reason why I don’t really add a Read More to my longer posts anymore isn’t really out of spite lol, it’s that they next to always break my post. As in like, glitch it to hell. Whole paragraphs will often be shuffled, doubled, or outright deleted entirely, and going back to fix my posts after this happens doesn’t help, it can make it worse in fact! I have this issue on both mobile and pc, so it’s not really a fault of one or the other.
Honestly, this whole blog is somewhat glitched, and I have NO idea why, it’s mostly a behind the scenes thing but it’s the only blog of mine that it happens on (because of course my most popular blog is somewhat broken, of course).
Sometimes submissions from specific users will be devoid of images when I know they included them, and these images won’t load for days on end or just straight up never appear at all. For submissions from another specific user, I can’t post their submissions AT ALL. It just won’t allow me. I have to copy paste their words and images and then credit them in the post for it. Sometimes I’ll go back to a post I made and want to add some more tags or change the text colors and it just….will not let me. Oh yeah! And lately in the post editor, if I highlight a word or several and try to color it, sometimes it will only color some of the words or even HALF of a word, and I can’t fix it unless I save as draft and then reopen it. At least I can do something about it there, but it’s still REALLY annoying.
I’ve talked to friends who’ve used Tumblr for years and know about all its quirks and all my glitches are weird even to them. Looks like I have a cool rare cursed blog. Yay! So….cool
Doing the best with what I got here guys 😬

Cherish Development Notes — Part 5: Chapter 3
Y’all know the drill; it’s once again time for me to open up the old Cherish scrapped content document and see what I’ve got to share with you about the development of yet another chapter in the fic.
Today, we’re going to be having a look at Chapter 3! Let’s begin!
(As per the usual warning, some Storm Bringer and Fifteen spoilers may be present, and obviously, there will be VerRim/RimLaine and ChuuArt content, so proceed at your own discretion. Also. It’s pretty long.)
Original Outline
There wasn’t much of an elongated outline for this chapter in my initial ramblings, but this is what I did have written down for it:
[Mori and Chuuya go] and [save] the person Paul pulled out of the river and, Paul comes with, they take him to Mori’s old doctor office […]
Secondary Outline & Third Outline
As with many of the earlier chapters in the fic, there was no second outline made for Chapter 3 outside of the small joke summary that was placed in the draft page for AO3 throughout its production.
As for the third outline, it wasn’t until halfway through Chapter 6 that I had started making TL;DRs of all of the past, present, and futures for my friend, so there was no genuine one of these for this chapter at the time; what I had in the first outline and the joke summary was basically what I got to work with.
Nevertheless, for the heck of it, I will still include the thing I later wrote in hindsight that would have been the “third outline”, had I created it at the time:
Chapter 3 is basically just, Chuuya and Mori arriving on the scene, and Chuuya immediately realizing the mistake in his judgement. He and Paul end up arguing over the fact he got Chuuya all worried about him for nothing, and eventually it comes out that he had intentionally not given him the fully story. In the heat of the moment, Chuuya says a lot of stuff he doesn’t mean, basically tells him off, says he’s learned nothing and he was mistaken for thinking maybe he’d changed, that he’s still a selfish bastard who doesn’t think about anyone but himself, brings up what he did to Arthur etc etc., but then regrets it shortly thereafter when he sees how much it devastates Paul. He attempts to make amends, but Mori calls for them to join him in the ambulance, as he’s loaded the patient in safely and won’t tolerate any delays.
Chuuya asks him to join him up front while he drives so they can talk, and Paul desperately wants to, but at the same time feels drawn to join Mori in the back and help him to make sure the patient stays alive until they reach the clinic. Ultimately, he goes with the latter, which leads Chuuya to feel even more guilty bc now in his mind, Paul doesn’t even want to talk to him anymore :/
He just can’t rationalize why else he would do that.
Joke Summary
Every chapter, while it is still merely a draft on AO3, I write a joke summary that I later remove before posting; this was Chapter 3′s.
Tumblr media
First Draft
As was the case with the previous two chapters I’ve already talked about, while I do still have the original outline I’ve shown you above for Chapter 3, I unfortunately do not possess a copy of the original first draft anymore, as I did not start actively storing and chronicling first and secondary drafts until the seventh chapter or so.
In light of this, the best that I can do to make up for that fact is try to describe what the creative process was like during this point and what specifically was in it that was unique from the final cut.
I’m sure the first thing you will have noticed, just from looking at that initial outline, is that, much like with what happened for Chapter 1 and 2, what you now know as Chapter 3 and 4 were originally planned to be one chapter — at least until it became extremely evident that the scene with Chuuya and Mori’s arrival was going to need to be much longer than I had initially estimated, and I then decided that it would be far too extensive if I put both scenes together. One thing that you won’t see pop up for some time in the initial outlines, but which I think you will find quite interesting to hear, is that much of the dialogue and conflict you now see in Chapter 3 was actually originally planned for the scene that is currently in Chapter 5, instead; it was only as I started progressing through this first draft and began writing the dialogue that I decided to take much of what happened in that future outline and transplant it into this part of the story, as I began to feel that there needed to be more emphasis on and exploration of Chuuya and Paul’s feelings immediately upon his arrival, rather than primarily cropping up in the waiting room scene with little to no foreshadowing, and an unrealistically quick resolution. To me, having that strong tension and intrigue of Paul’s heart mysteriously being torn in two ways, for the first time since wrongly feeling he had to choose between his old partner and Chuuya in that government facility, was an incredibly important aspect of the story that needed expressing and addressing in a way that was more intense, consistent, and realistic than what placing it in the eventual Chapter 5 could provide — and thus, Chapter 3 as you know it was born.
The decision to include Elise in this chapter was also quite unplanned for, and strictly a result of the decision to incorporate that previously mentioned topics into the scene; after all, in the moment that I decided that, due to their arguing, neither Chuuya nor Paul would be assisting in helping their Boss to load the patient onto a stretcher and into the back of the van, I knew that I would have to a) make him be attempting it alone, b) yell at them and force them to help, or c) use the manifestation of his ability to make up for a lack of other personnel — and given that I wanted Mori to be neutral to their argument and if anything amused by it, rather than angry, and it would be absurd for him not to choose to use Elise as his helper if he didn’t intend to force them, she ended up being the convenient afterthought that worked out as an ideal solution to my dilemma.
Second Draft
I do not really recall much about what the Second Draft looked like compared to the first or final, or if there were any major changes made therein, but typically speaking, there usually isn’t too much of a change between the second and third drafts — mostly just proofreading and fixing typos — unless a certain line or set of lines needs major alteration for some reason, so hopefully we aren’t missing out on a lot here.
I don’t currently remember anything of particular significance, at least.
Final Draft
As stated before, the only change made after the second draft was fixing typos and proofreading; the decision to separate what would later become Chapter 4 from Chapter 3 had already been made during the first draft, long before the second scene was ever even reached, so there was no physical act of parting the two necessary here.
Deleted Scenes & Lines
I wouldn’t exactly call this one entirely a deleted scene, but there was a fairly different alternate take of an existing one, which held quite a bit of interesting information on the thoughts of Chuuya and Paul that were ultimately removed from the completed version (note that the bolded text is all unique to this scrapped iteration):
...Wait… Shit! Did I really just say all that?!
As soon as the heat of the moment had passed, Chuuya swiftly came back to his senses and instantly regretted the things he had said, but it was already too late; no matter how much regret he may have felt over his actions now, the damage had long since been done.
He had said the one thing he should never say — the cruelest comment he could’ve made.
Paul had taken it gracefully, doing his best to pretend it didn’t faze him by turning away and trying in vain to mask his pained expression as frustration or anger, but it was clear that the words had hurt him very deeply inside.
Chuuya wasn’t wrong; the old him definitely would have just left the man to die at the first sign of inconvenience, if he’d have even tried to save him at all, but he wasn’t that person anymore. Even if he did have a moment of selfishness that decided the course of action he absolutely wouldn’t take, he still wasn’t willing to give up until he found an alternative way to save him!
After nearly a decade of relentless, still on-going self-punishment and self-hatred, caught every day between wishing he could die and knowing that if he did, he would be throwing away the precious gift of life Arthur sacrificed everything to give him and running from a guilt he didn’t deserve to escape, Chuuya still somehow didn’t believe that he was sincere enough in his guilt or his efforts to change.
He understood that some of his tactics were careless and unfair, but it was all done to save a life…! As Chuuya said himself, he could once have easily just let the man die at the first sign that rescuing him would be an inconvenience, but he instead chose to do something anyway! Didn’t that count for anything?
I actually find it quite surprising that so much of an exchange managed to survive in its complete form from an earlier draft, if I’m honest; it’s really interesting, too, to see how different it ended up from its later successor. If I had to guess, I would say this is most probably remnants of a last-minute change in the second draft, since — assuming the first draft followed the rules of the current creative process for the fic — this version seems far too detailed and completely coherent to be a part of the first draft; I could be wrong, however.
Whatever the case, I think there’s actually quite a bit to examine, discuss, and learn from this take, so let’s break the more important parts down a little.  One thing I think shines through much more explicitly in this draft is how much I wanted it to be clear that Chuuya was extremely self-aware of his mistake once the moment had passed — that he knew how utterly horrible, how low and unfair of a blow what he said really was to throw at someone who had actually chosen to do something kind for once in his life.
He had said the one thing he should never say — the cruelest comment he could’ve made.
Chuuya knew that Paul’s one and only major weakness, even after all of these years, was his old partner — he knew how much it tore him up inside that he had ever hurt him, and how badly he wished every day of his life that he could take it back, yet he still went ahead and used that against him in that instant, disregarding how deeply those words would cut into him; there was absolutely nothing worse he could’ve possibly said to him.
No, he wasn’t exactly thinking straight when he said it, and yes, he really did feel kind of betrayed, and was just blindly letting loose things he’d probably kept bottled up inside from the past, but even so, the result was still the same, and now there was nothing he could possibly do about it to fully take back the pain he inflicted; that’s why he had this chilling moment of, “Oh fuck, what did I just do?”
I think that all of that emotion still comes through really well in the final draft, but it’s definitely a lot more ominous and more thoroughly expressed in this previous version, rather than just being heavily implied, and I think that’s pretty cool, even if this draft is way less polished.
Paul had taken it gracefully, doing his best to pretend it didn’t faze him by turning away and trying in vain to mask his pained expression as frustration or anger, but it was clear that the words had hurt him very deeply inside.
Something you might quickly have picked up on in this iteration is how it clearly states that, rather than trying to remain looking neutral or unaffected, Paul specifically attempted to appear angry or frustrated in response to Chuuya’s comment; this is a theme that you may see repeat itself at some points in the future, as Paul has a tendency to try to make it easier on Chuuya to do whatever needs doing or saying — for the sake of the redhead’s own mental health — by acting as unsympathetic as possible.
This is because, as much as he may hurt and want to be close to his brother, he actually does not want his sympathy; he feels he deserves to be hated — deserves to receive whatever anger Chuuya still holds towards him, after all he has done. Therefore, he will attempt to give him a reason to feel justified in those actions, so he won’t have to feel any guilt.
As you can also see, Paul was also quite honest with himself in this version about the fact that Chuuya actually made a very accurate assessment about him, and sadly was quite correct in it, too — at least, if he had been referring to the old version of himself with which the redhead had been most familiar; prior to this, he really was quite self-serving, so he really couldn’t blame his brother for seeing it that way, even if it frustrated him to not be believed.
Even though I went with a very different route for what would be the final draft’s equivalent of these lines ultimately, I still feel that this is perhaps the most raw and intense version of them all, and I’m a little bit sad in some ways that it didn’t fit into the final cut.
A lot of information was supplied here about Paul’s mental and emotional state, his heavy beratement of himself, and his outlook on life that was simply lost in the last re-write of the chapter; we are told of how he despised himself for all of the pain he caused, the way he constantly refuses to let himself forget his actions and treats himself harshly in accordance of that, and most of all, how his biggest reason for remaining alive even now was purely due to the fact that if he didn’t, he felt it would be to further insult and injure the feelings of the man whom he had so gravely hurt in the past, and a way out of his suffering that he simply didn’t deserve. This set of lines paints the picture of a Paul who is, at heart, almost suicidal, having nearly completely lost any hope that might have still flickered somewhere in his heart after these long years of grief and nearly complete self-isolation.
In a way, the above was originally meant to be foreshadowing for a topic and event that may or may not make its way into the finished version of Cherish; if it does, however, it is quite likely that these lines will — at least in some shape or form — ultimately resurface, and you will almost definitely know when it happens.
One further thing unique to this iteration of the sentence(s), I feel, is the extreme sense of grief, rather than just frustration, given off by the last part of the line; to me, it truly lends a special sense of how emotionally exasperated and distraught Verlaine felt at knowing that all his sibling could seem to see was the version of him that the blond himself despised.
He understood that some of his tactics were careless and unfair, but it was all done to save a life…! As Chuuya said himself, he could once have easily just let the man die at the first sign that rescuing him would be an inconvenience, but he instead chose to do something anyway! Didn’t that count for anything?
As for the last lines, there isn’t much to add here, given that much of this survived as lines of dialogue for Paul’s direct thoughts in the final draft, and I don’t have much recollection of the rest of the changes and cuts involved, but I’m sure you can at least see why the highlighted part ultimately led to the decision to sadly cut line 5 (due to the redundancy created by said line).
He wanted to comfort him — to chase after him or reach out and stop him, and tell him that yes, he’d come with him and yes, they’d talk about it all right away; they’d worked through this. He wanted to say he deserved it all anyway, that maybe Chuuya was in the right for saying it, and he shouldn’t feel bad […]
The only other deleted line I could find that I thought was particularly interesting was this one — which does have an equivalent in the final draft, as well, but a much shorter and more concise one.
In this iteration, however, we get to see a bit more of the actual things he desperately wanted to do and say to make Chuuya feel better in the moment that they parted, as well as more of that self-ridicule over his past that has been cut from the earlier dialogue.
I do think that the finished version of the paragraph — smaller though it may have been — still conveyed the overall message just as well as this one, but it is interesting to be able to see his thought process in full, so I wanted to share it anyway.
Art
As of yet, there is no artwork for this chapter, but I think that my plan for this one would probably be something along the lines of that moment when Chuuya and Paul are walking off in opposite directions towards the ambulance to get inside, perhaps with Mori and Elise in the background.
Title & Aesthetics
Okay, I’m not going to lie, this just may be one of my absolute favorite chapters in terms of how both the lyrics and the title fit the plot in such a deep, multi-faceted way.
Obviously, we’ll talk about the lyrics in the next section, but in regards to the title itself, it not only perfectly sums up how the entire chapter revolves around the choices Paul had to make to try to save Poet!Arthur’s life, but also the nature of the whole argument Chuuya ends up having with his brother — which, quite literally, was about the ‘correct’ way to save a life. Furthermore, it also reflects the pain and resentment over his sibling’s past actions that Nakahara let get the better of him at some point during their debate, and the guilt and regret Verlaine felt at being the ultimate cause of the deaths of so many deaths back then — including his old partner’s, all because he wasn’t able to recognize what was right in front of him all along while he still had it.
The overall aesthetic of the tune, as well, fits the chapter quite well, still maintaining a heavy melancholy, while also sounding quite desperate, remorseful, intense, and even slightly frustrated at several points — all emotions that I wanted my readers to be able to feel as if they were their own while reading through the two brothers’ arguments and plights.
How to Save a Life Story Connections: A Lyrical Analysis
As I said in the section above, How to Save a Life might just be one of my most favorite titles and songs to be tied to a chapter in Cherish, so I’m really, really excited to get to break down the lyrics and tell you in-depth all about the ways that it fits the plot, lyric by lyric.
I think one thing that’s quite important to define right away is that, much like with the title, the lyrics also have multiple applications to the plot, rather than just one — those applications being not just Chuuya and Paul’s individual perspectives during the fight, but also BSD!Arthur’s and Paul’s back during the mission to retrieve Arahabaki — which Chuuya reminds him of during their argument in the present, and he begins to guiltily recall.
There is also actually a third perspective involved, but…well, we’ll come back to that in a future chapter; for now, just try to bear that comment in mind.
Step one, you say we need to talk He walks, you say sit down, it's just a talk He smiles politely back at you You stare politely right on through
In the present, this lines refer mostly to Chuuya’s perspective, reflecting how, upon arriving and realizing he’d been misled, he immediately decided to confront his brother about the situation; although the chapter opens with him yelling at Paul, the beginning of the conversation was actually quite polite, as Chuuya was merely confused about the situation, and it took time for it to fully dawn on him that his sibling had, in a sense, manipulated him.
Paul is obviously nervous about the situation, knowing that what he had done wasn’t exactly fair and not really wanting to go into it at first due to that, but Chuuya insists that he stays and talks about it with him anyway, so Verlaine obliges, wanting to clear up the mess and at least explain his reasoning behind his actions.
In the memories of the past, these lines would mostly represent Paul’s perspective, as they arrive at the facility and rescue Chuuya, and he then attempts to get BSD!Arthur to slow down as he begins to leave, asking his partner to listen to his proposal. Arthur, of course, is gracious about it as always, caring to hear what he has to say. Some sort of window to your right As he goes left, and you stay right Between the lines of fear and blame You begin to wonder why you came
Now beginning to understand the situation a little better as the two siblings stand by the ambulance in the present, Chuuya goes from being concerned for his brother’s safety to resenting and feeling betrayed by what he has done, fearing that maybe he hasn’t changed for the better at all.
He watches as Paul turns his attention away from him, looking towards the teen he rescued, and in a moment of anger, begins to regret answering his call.
In the past, after BSD!Arthur seems hesitant to accept his proposal to simply run away with him and raise Chuuya together in the countryside rather than take him to the government and let him know of his ‘real’ origins, Paul, standing by the shattered glass tank his brother was being kept in, feeling fear that his partner won’t listen to reason and despising the government he works for as much as the one they just worked together against, begins to question what he should do from here — what truly matters to him most of all in this mission.
Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend Somewhere along in the bitterness
In the present, these lines reflect Chuuya and Paul both — with Paul feeling like his actions may have cost him what little of a relationship he had managed to build with his brother over the years, and Chuuya wondering if in some way he had contributed to his brother’s slow descent back into the darkness of his old ways, by stealing away the one person he needed most.
Furthermore, as Verlaine reflects on the past, he reflects on how he mistakenly began to feel betrayed by BSD!Arthur just through that small bit of hesitance, and how that one wrong train of thought would ultimately lead to the death of the only human being whom ever meant anything to him.
And I would have stayed up with you all night Had I known how to save a life
Chuuya feels that Paul’s manipulation was unnecessary, as if he had only known the truth of the situation, he still would have gladly stayed on the phone and helped his brother in saving the teen, regardless of what — or how long — it had taken to do so.
Likewise, Paul reflects on the past and laments to himself that if only he had been wise enough to see how much his partner adored him and recognized that  somewhere deep down, he cared for him in return, he would have gladly spent as long as it took talking with him as they left the facility, until he had successfully persuaded him to join him.
Let him know that you know best 'Cause after all, you do know best Try to slip past his defense Without granting innocence
In the present time, Chuuya remains hard-headed his feelings, far too focused on the fact that the way he saved the young man was ‘wrong’, to see the good deed he had done, itself, or how miraculous and how much of an improvement  it was for him to have even committed to it at all. Instead of granting that perhaps the blond had never truly meant to cause harm to him and was just desperate to save someone, the ginger instead takes the least generous interpretation of the matter, and in his anger, cuts him down using his one extreme vulnerability — bringing up what he had done to BSD!Rimbaud in the past, and claiming he clearly had no remorse for it and hadn’t changed at all since then.
Meanwhile, in the past, Paul is unrelenting with his argument, insisting that he is right about the kind of life that Chuuya would have if raised in the same way that Verlaine himself had been taught when he joined the French government, entirely aware of what what he was, calling his partner unimaginative and ununderstanding and trying to take control of him and the situation by breaking down his defenses with emotional manipulation and unnecessary harshness.
Lay down a list of what is wrong The things you've told him all along
In both past and present, these lines relate to both parties in different ways:
In the current time, Chuuya continues his lecture on the things Paul has done wrong in trying to save the drowning victim, and how he thought he had already learned that from the countless instances in the past when he had used somewhat similar tactics to achieve his goals, while Paul apologizes and tries desperately to correct him on misunderstandings and show him that he is sincere in the motives he had told him from the very start.
And similarly, in the past, BSD!Arthur tries to comfort his agitated and upset partner by telling him that he is as human as anyone else, as he has always done, and that they will work things out together later — only to be met with resistance from Paul, who becomes further angered by these words, telling him he is wrong on all accounts and he’s tired of hearing it. And pray to God he hears you And pray to God he hears you
In both cases, both parties are desperate to be heard, understood, and believed by the other, believing that the situation is extremely serious and there is no other alternative in order for things to turn out alright.
And where did I go wrong? I lost a friend Somewhere along in the bitterness And I would have stayed up with you all night Had I known how to save a life
In addition to all of the above things from the last time these lyrics went by, we also now have two new ones, as BSD!Rimbaud in the past begins to feel guilty over what he had done to Paul by letting him be taken in by their government. If he’d only known what he knew now, he would have stayed up all night after rescuing him and found a way during that time to save him from them and keep him safe.
And in the present, Paul feels regret over what he had done, thinking that if he had only had the sense to place his faith in Chuuya, been honest, and stayed on the phone with him, he could have done things a better way that wouldn’t result in all of this suffering.
As he begins to raise his voice You lower yours and grant him one last choice Drive until you lose the road Or break with the ones you've followed
As Mori calls out to them in the present, Chuuya and Paul are forced to stop in the midst of their intentions to make amends with each other in order to join their Boss in leaving with the ambulance to go to the clinic. Chuuya offers him a choice to come join him in the front of the van, and this is where Paul is faced with his moral dilemma: to take his offer and be there for him, or prioritize the survival of the person he saved and deal with the rest later — or, in other words, to continue obsessing over his brother even when it isn’t the right thing to do and potentially cost another their life in the process, or show that he has changed by sticking to his convictions and doing a greater good, even if it means temporarily upsetting the smaller executive.
In the past, as Paul’s emotions becomes more intense, BSD!Arthur offers to talk about things with him and try to find a solution for Chuuya later in accordance with his feelings; however, rather than seeing this as an opportunity to persuade him to his side once they are safely out of the facility, as he doubtlessly could, he instead views it as a breaking point in their relationship and an ultimatum: Paul can either stay in the job with his partner and be the cause of his brother’s suffering in that way, or he can break out of it and escape, with or without him.
As a result, he pulls his gun on Arthur.
He will do one of two things He will admit to everything Or he'll say he's just not the same And you'll begin to wonder why you came
At present time, instead of admitting he didn’t really care much about the fate of the man he saved or deciding he would rather be with his brother in that moment, Paul stands by his convictions and decides to go with Mori into the back of the ambulance, and Chuuya further begins to question and kick himself over ever coming over to him to argue about it and spew such harsh things at him in the first place, feeling not only that he might have been wrong, but most of all that he had destroyed their relationship beyond repair. Despite BSD!Arthur’s hopes that Paul would admit that he doesn’t want to hurt him and to try to work things out with him, Paul instead chooses to insist that he isn’t the same as his partner — he isn’t human, and attacks him, leaving BSD!Rimbaud to feel betrayed in the aftermath and doubt what all of the time he spent carefully tending to and loving Verlaine was really for — if he ever really cared to begin with, and if this had been his plan from the very start.
Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend Somewhere along in the bitterness And I would have stayed up with you all night Had I known how to save a life
In addition to all the matters and applications mentioned before, Chuuya, in the present, now begins to feel that he fucked up with his words, chastising and alienating his brother over something that ultimately was insignificant in the grand scheme of things.
And in the past, as BSD!Arthur feels all of this betrayal and regret as his partner tries to kill him, questioning what he did to deserve it, he laments in his heart that if only he had known the situation, he would have gladly run away with him into the night and given everything up for him rather than asking to talk things out with him later.
And I guess that’s pretty much it for this one! You can listen to the song itself (and the others in this fic’s playlist) here!
Favorite Lines
Y’all don’t understand how much I adore this whole chapter with every inch of my heart; it’s physically impossible for me to pick a line I particularly love above the rest in this case. 🥺💖 I’m sorry.
Other Trivia
Back when Chapters 3 and 4 were one thing, the original title and song namesake would have been The Night We Met; How to Save a Life was not even a song under consideration until after the decision to split the chapters, when the need to give 3 a title arose — which is part of what makes the fact it fits so perfectly so very cool. I’m extremely glad it turned out this way.
“...Yes, I know. It was selfish, Chuuya; I’m not denying that. He needed my help, and I hesitated because I was worried about myself; there’s no getting around how terrible that was of me. Still, I —”
“Still, I wasn’t going to just leave him for dead, no matter what the situation was for me; that’s why I called you.” is probably how this sentence would have read, had it not been cut off.
“...Paul, look, I —”
“I..I’m sorry. I didn’t mean any of that shit I said before; I was just…pissed, ‘cause you got me all worried about ya.”
…Or something like that, at least; it would probably have played out quite similar to how it did in the clinic waiting room in Chapter 5, really, had the conversation been allowed to happen here.
“H-hey, we can always talk about it in the car, yeah…?” There was a melancholic wistfulness in the younger man’s question, as he desperately tried to salvage the situation. “There...there should be enough time, on the way back to Headquarters, if ya wanted to—”
“[…] if ya wanted to try to sort things out.” is roughly what would have been said, probably.
And yep, I think that’ll be about it for now! I hope you enjoyed, and I’ll see you on the next set of Chapter development notes!

Hey, sorry, I'm new here, do you know where would one find mcr concert livestreams? Would they still do them on the tour next year? I missed all of them this year
no fear anon!! so some livestreams this year have been archived by whoever’s streaming, which sometimes is hard to find, but have no fear! @themychemicalromancearchive has a dropbox full of videos, photos, all you could want and wish for from every single show in order! so if you ever feel like you wanna check out past shows, go check out what the archive has to offer, this is by far the most well documented and organized tour we’ve ever had! (anyone reading this please consider sending them a tip for their services, it’s really quite an accomplishment and such an invaluable resource)
streams will most likely be available for next year’s shows, but depending on venue and reception (sometimes we’re all thrown in the dark without a stream in sight) we’ll see how things go! for shows that are being fan-streamed, most people go to twitter and search mcr streams on the night of and streamers will usually be listed, but i usually see stream lists and links start to pop up on my dash about 3 hours before showtime and i’ll save them in my drafts for reference and delete them after the show. @mcrbois is the true mvp of stream links. prettypicsofmcr on instagram usually lists a bunch of potential streamers on their story the day of as well, which is always helpful when a stream cuts out and you need a quick reference to an alternative while you’re already on instagram.
but even without streams, which can’t always be reliable, we will for sure get loads and loads of videos after the show is over and in the next few days afterwards (and usually in better quality since venue reception is so dogshit most of the time). so whether you’re able to make streams or not, you won’t be left out!! :3

Hey nerds, those of you keeping score have probably noticed that my latest round of answering mail didn’t end up happening, largely because of e_e the world, I guess. God I hate living in the bad timeline.
Anyway, I’ve gotten 3 more great asks in the last couple days, so I do still want to do a mail day again because they’re awesome things to talk about and I definitely need a break from the crushing weight of the dystopian reality we live in (and odds are, you do too). I’m leaving Wednesday to visit my brother for a week, so I probably won’t get to do mail day until I get back, BUT I’m going to do my best to load up my queue with PLEASANT POSTS until I get back. (Seriously the whole parade of the-world-is-hardcore-going-to-shit got me to slip right back into saving shit as drafts instead of posting/queueing, I’ve saved like 100 posts in the last week, wtf is wrong with me.)
I don’t want to promise that I’ll get anything up while I’m gone because I really just want to enjoy being with my family and not think about the rest of the world for a week, so I know I’ll be hella distracted even if I have an opportunity to answer something. SO, better to just leave that for when I return. See you when I get back, enjoy the nicer/more wholesome posts I’ll be queueing up in the meantime!

September 22, 2022
Please somebody stop me I’m watching day-in-the-life videos from PhD students.  I ain’t even contacted nobody yet; I ain’t even graduated.
I actually have contacted a person!!!  I’m incredibly nervous about this conversation we’re going to have because I don’t know what to expect from it!!!  I mean the good thing is I know her already but this interaction is far more loaded than any previous ones, she’s basically looking to see if I’m hirable.  After this first one, I expect that I’ll be able to start rattling off emails left and right, I just need to push myself through this anxious block.
Pros of having four-class-days:
your one-class-days are full rest/work days
Cons of having four-class-days:
it is legitimately difficult to maintain focus by the time 3p rolls around
too tired to do anything after classes
somewhat difficult to schedule meetings
high chance of having 2+ exams on one day (ahem, next thursday)
Pros of making a full box of pasta:
don’t have to make dinner for six days straight
super filling
toppings can be anything
Cons of making a full box of pasta:
minimal variety in one week
difficult to cook on student housing stove with small burners
takes up a ton of room in a fridge shared by four people
Today I’m thankful that my ecoanth class is forcing me to write a grant proposal for a grant that I plan to apply for and that I don’t have to write the grant on ecoanth but can do ~anything I want~ and that my prof for the class actually won the grant and is willing to coach us through it if we want :D  That class bores me out of my mind sometimes (these theory classes are interesting to some extent but honestly I would almost feel comfortable skipping and that’s saying something coming from me, I have never missed a class (perfect attendance is, for better or worse, bound into my personality)) but this is definitely an unexpected plus.  Unfortunately the grant is the final project for the class.  Fortunately the actual one is due in a month(!!!!) so as long as I save copies of my drafts as I go along, I won’t need to put too much effort into the versions I have to turn in for class.  Work smarter, not harder.  And don’t even mention self-plagiarism to me, I think it applies practically in very few cases (academia is one of them but like, I’m an undergrad and who cares). [edit, 1 month later: yeahhh I did not submit the application to that grant lol]
I’m also thankful for the little in-class participatory exercise my dev bio prof did today!!!  I made me feel like I was in elementary school, everyone (who showed up) was given a card with a role on it related to what we’ve been learning and we had to act out our role in the cell and it was just really cute (and also clarified some stuff tbh).

Creating My First Vector Graphic Asset! + A Rough Overestimation and Journey in learning Illustrator
Tumblr media Tumblr media
TW //// Body Dysmorphia, Anorexia, ED
Hey y’all, I’m back with another update on my progress on my time in my Uni’s VCDM-230 course. Today’s content might be a little bit on the heavy side, so I wanted to include a trigger warning in case someone struggling with the issues came across this post while in a state that can’t handle it’s contents. I’d like to provide context on my chosen disease and what I hoped to accomplish in the project. I chose Body Dysmorphia due to my prior experiences of dealing with close friends suffering from BDD. These disorders would literally eat my friends alive and I would feel helpless as all I could do was stay with them and check on them and their mental health from time to time. It was, and still is, a jarring feeling seeing them push themselves towards an endless goal I can’t understand but only hope to sympathize with while still stressing the importance of maintaining their health. With my design, I had hoped to showcase a stylized extreme to stress the gravity to those not only familiar with the disorder, but to those unaware as well. But to digress, for the last two weeks, students were assigned with picking a disease or disorder to research, draft a report paper on, and eventually design a infographic poster on to present in class. I had thought I’d lighten the stress load of designing by first drafting the design in my art book as a sketch, and then simply trace the design in Illustrator. Well this task turned out to be anything but simple. Lines wouldn’t go where I wanted them, trying to conjoin lines would completely overwrite one, I couldn’t manage to color in sections, and my canvas was too big because I couldn’t adjust it in inches. I had to take a break and visit my Professor’s office just to let her know: I hate Illustrator. With her aid, I managed to fix some of the errors, such as learning the power of of the swatches tab, and get back on track but I can tell I still have a lot to learn. I won’t let this discourage me from finishing my project, but I’ll probably dread going back to the application (and I’m definitely coloring this asset in Ps, save me Paint Bucket Tool!(Sorry Professor)). I’m unsure if I can upload my finished projects while I’m still in my course, but I’d love to share the end result with you all some day!

Why Are Liquid Wood Doors and Windows So Popular?
It’s true, liquid wood doors and windows are super popular. These eco-friendly products not only harness energy by innovation, they also serve homeowners who need replacement windows or doors.
The windows present the ideal balance between sustainability and design. Their one-of-a-kind green construction leaves a significantly lighter carbon footprint. So you can save the planet and save on your utilities at the same time.
Both stunning and strong, these solid windows and doors do not invite termites and never lose their grace when it comes to style, durability, and maintenance.
Introducing Liquid Wood Doors and Windows So, are you tired of wooden doors and windows that rot and cause endless headaches?
If so, say hello to liquid wood! It’s like wood, but without all the hustle. This innovative material is made from a type of thermoplastic mixed with lignin (a paper byproduct), and topped off with an environmentally friendly serving of wax.
The result? Windows that look and feel like natural wood, but are way easier to make and which generates less waste. Liquid wood is like the superhero version of wood.
To make doors and windows out of liquid wood, skilled workers mold the material into the perfect shape and let it cure. Once it sets, they give it a makeover with paint, stain, or a good old sanding session.
Voila! You’ve got yourself some top-notch windows or doors – products that provide superior thermal insulation. Therefore, they withstand extreme weather conditions and won’t attract those pesky and unwelcome termites. Which is definitely an advantage.
Trendy Liquid Wood Designs
But that’s not all! Liquid wood offers a wide range of window styles to suit your fancy. Let’s take a peek at some of the trendiest designs:
Casement Windows: This traditional window swings outward with the help of a crank handle, allowing for optimal ventilation and a clear view. Plus, they’re energy-efficient, so no more chilly drafts sneaking in through the window pane.
Double-Hung Windows: Need a breath of fresh air in your kitchen or bathroom? Look no further than double-hung windows. They feature two sliding vertical sashes that move independently, giving you maximum airflow. And with a liquid wood frame, you’ll have both sustainability and style as well as a great design.
Tilt & Turn Windows: Cleaning windows can be a pain, especially if they’re on the second floor. But fear not! Tilt & turn windows to the rescue. They tilt inward from the top or swing open like a door, making cleaning a breeze. Plus, they offer better ventilation and added security. With liquid wood, you’ll have a trendy and eco-friendly window style. Bay Window Styles: Want to bring in loads of natural light and make a bold architectural statement? Bay windows are your go-to. These beauties project from your house’s exterior wall and create a focal point in any room. And when they’re made with liquid wood frames, they’re not just stunning, but, as noted, sustainable too. French Doors: Traditional and refined, French doors are both durable and elegant. When made of liquid wood, they enhance classic architectural styles and make any room more visibly appealing.

Contractions
In ancient times, people started speaking to each other, and one day, somebody shortened two words, “Its going to be hot today.” Instead of, “It is going to be hot today.” Later, people began developing letters that represented words and needed to describe these shortened words. To solve this dilemma, writers invented the contraction. “It’s going to be hot today.” This invention opened up a whole new world. Couldn’t, he’ll, I’m, let’s, that’s, she’s, what’re, won’t, you’re, we’re. And, of course, the most essential contraction ever written, Bill’s. Well, it’s important to me.
Now there were many new words for both writers and readers. My problem was that I hated contractions. My first book (Interviewing Immortality) did not have a single one in the first draft. My beta reader (mom) asked me, “Why did you intentionally not use contractions?” I had no answer, but my work clearly needed to be updated. To address this shortcoming, I found a list of contractions and did a search/replace where it seemed appropriate.
“It’s going to be hot today.” To me, that sentence reads like an uneducated person describing the weather and not the words of a polished author. However, my everyday speech is full of contractions.
What was going on? I intentionally “decompress” contractions into their formal two-word form when I write because that looks proper. When should I use them? Reading other books did not help because I could not see any logic to their use. It was as if the authors used a shotgun loaded with apostrophes and blasted away. Author authors only used one every ten pages.
Of course, I read all the rules, style guides, and extensively used grammar programs. It was a forced process, but I occasionally put a contraction into a standard sentence.
I understand that there is a harsh reality to effective writing. Good contraction use is the mark of a skilled author. It shows the mastery of the English language. Why? A contraction allows characters to go from informal to formal. Bob casually stated, “It’s going to be hot today.” Bob warned the assembled people, “It is going to be hot today.” That’s the power of words. They paint a mental picture of what the character is projecting.
This acceptance is still in the beginning stages, and it will probably take five years for me to insert them subconsciously. Bummer!
    You’re the best -Bill
