I go to an art school and 15-20 minutes per person is pretty much standard for crits here because class sizes are small and they want to make sure you get thorough advice on whatever you’re working on. so it’s kind of funny in like a “oh wow my experiences are NOT universal” way seeing you suffer. Sorry lol.

See i understand spending 15-20 mins on the piece if it NEEDS that amount of attention, but this was A) 20 minutes for EVERY SINGLE PIECE regardless of how strong the work was (and she WOULD NOT move on even when we straight up told her the piece was strong enough that we didn't have anything else to say), meaning that the crits on stronger work very quickly devolved into nitpicking as opposed to actual helpful advice, and B) it was NOT A SKETCH CRIT, this was a FINAL crit, so we're showing work that should, in theory, be in its most finished form. 20 minutes for sketches or in-progress work makes more sense to me because your work is less finished at that stage and you have actual time to implement the suggested changes, but for FINAL CRIT??? it's just BEGGING to have everyone leave discouraged and angry imo. it's one thing if the work isn't up to the standard of a final piece and NEEDS substantial crit, but there's no reason to force students to spend 20 minutes nitpicking the details of a portfolio-ready finished piece. it just wastes everyone's time.

#extra annoying puzzle piece here is that she didn't have an in-progress group crit even tho we had a week in between sketch and final #so when we're spending 20 mins critiquing the finals its like. ok why didn't anyone tell me this crit BEFORE i did all the work #to bring it to final??? yknow? #sigh. and also worth noting this is specifically an illustration class and i've never had any other classes in the illustration dept #run crits this way. it might be beneficial in other disciplines but with illustration i think its just. a bad way to run class #and this prof has an illustration degree from this school. i checked. lmfao #asks

bunch of Phantasy AU doodles n wip from earlier this year

Basically I just found out this year that ball-jointed dolls actually have strings in them and not just... magically attached by the ball joints themselves? And 31 in this AU is a ball jointed doll that were made out of Danny's energy so here we are :3c

I've been watching a lot of doll customization since earlier this year and found out from dollightful's video that no they are all connected by elastic strings inside so that's where the idea came from

...i was looking on google to find a good example to put here and clearly I'm not exactly paying attention to how the main body strings are actually.. pinned to?

the video I've been watching the most is dollightful n moonlight jewel and they have their bjd usually only to the bottom of the doll head instead of all the way to the top on the skull pin like the diagram above

Which is why 31 has his strings all connected to the 'heart' in the middle instead of the head kasjdnkasjnd

But yeah uhhh specifics aside...

Those ball jointed dolls made me think of 31, and then thinking about the clones in Phantasy AU and like.. the logistic of it

for 31, the idea is that during the circus gothica arc for this AU, Danny actually got kidnapped all the whole way into another universe/plane in which he met Valeska (Enn's oc) who unalive what his face the circus leader n break Danny's hypnosis

and now that Danny is essentially stuck in a whole other plane/realm/or sth he just following Valeska hoping she'll help him find his way back.

In one such trip, Danny got kidnapped (again) by another group/cult who wanted to use his power/energy as a gate keeper to the ghost zone to make their own gate keeper so they can open portals to ghost zones and maybe other realms too

31 is part of the experiments. He's a doll made with part of Danny's energy as his core.

And then it's.. uhh.. sth sth Valeska finally found out where they kept Danny and devour everyone there safe from Danny n 31 who helped him escape so now the three of them travel together~

The last pict is me thinking about clones and kingdom hearts :tm: so dramatic about Danny being the soul separated from the main body and 31 a clone made from part of the soul too and all that Not sure where I'm going with that but it do sound cool

And there's also Danielle but I'm not exactly sure.. how she would fit in? but it would be interesting if she was made from Danny's body somehow

so 31 made from part of teh soul and Dani from part of the body sounds poetic somehow

- champa was known for being a seafaring nation, she traveled often and had a talent for shipbuilding, she controlled the spice and silk trade between south and esea asia, she’s an ambitious girl

- matrilineality and the role of woman are incredibly important in cham culture, the creation myth for the champ people has the goddess lady po nagar as the founder of the nation, hence why i made champa a woman

- she was briefly allies with vietnam as they had common enemy from mongol invasions

- champa wasn’t a centralized kingdom, it was made of different polities, she didn’t really “die” until the last polity was annexed by vietnam in the 19th century

- cham isn’t her only child, i think cham represents the group that live in current central and south vietnam as well as cambodia, which is where the majority of cham people live

- her other children are also spread through malaysia and hainan, i also don’t think the way familial ties within hetalia work the same as humans, i don’t think they were born in the typical way, i like the idea of cham and her siblings being born from sea foam as that’s in the creation myth

- cham was born around the 14th-18th century during the decline of the champa kingdom

- her people faced a lot of forced assimilation and genocide in the contemporary era, fortunately the culture and people are still flourishing to this day. though, persecution in the modern day hasn’t gone away completely

- on that note, i don’t feel too comfortable going super in depth with the oppression of the cham people in the context of original characters and hetalia, i have indigenous heritage from my grandparents on both sides but my family assimilated into the majority kinh ethnic group and i’m not connected to the cultures to really write about the indigenous experience, i only identify as vietnamese.
