DEITY GUIDE

(From research but also from my own workings with her as my matron. This isn’t meant to be strictly historical this is more for pagans wanting to work with her. There will be a lot of UPG or SPG)

Selene is a Greek Titan (I call her goddess because I find it honoring but she is a Titan) She is the moon incarnate. The embodiment of the moon itself in spirit form. I believe to look up at the moon and call it beautiful is to call her beautiful as well.

Her parents are Hyperion and Theia and her siblings are Helios (The Sun) and Eos (The Dawn)

She is ever changing and ever shifting.

The myths of her have a lot to do with a man named Endymion. There are many versions, but my favorite take I’ve ever heard is that he was a human she fell in love with. She knew that he would die one day and couldn’t bear that. So she requested to Zeus that when it was his time to die, he’d go in his sleep, and he’d instead just sleep forever, preserved and immortal. She visits him every night and has many children with him. (I like to believe the version that this was all consensual and that Endymion would’ve wanted it this was as well)

What working with her is like?

She is as ever shifting and multifaceted as the moon itself. She is a sweet mother, and a firm scolder.

She is the only deity I’ve had who has set off my fire alarms (it was a very normal glass candle with no herbs or extras 😅) and a second time she melted a pillar candle of hers onto the floor because she got very excited that there was a lot of love in my household that day.

She doesn’t put up with me wallowing, she wants me to confront my issues head on. Has tried to work with me on emotional problems and addictions. She’s a fierce protector of women and I’ve found that she will even look out for my girlfriend’s emotions as well, though she doesn’t work with her.

She is a strong mother figure, loving yet stern. She also can go quiet for long periods of time. In my experience prefers meditation as communicating, or the moon oracle deck I have.

- flowers that bloom at night

- imagery of white horses (she has a chariot)

- the moon tarot card

- the lovers tarot card

- the chariot tarot card

Devotional offerings

- look up at the moon! Call her beautiful

- learn about the moon phases

- look after yourself and your health

- meditate with her

- draw pictures of her/the moon

-write songs/poetry

- don’t be afraid to feel your feelings!

Personally, though she is my matron I have some of the most difficult times connecting with her. It could be due to my issues with my mother and seeing her as a mother figure. But, I’d say if you want to work with her be prepared for it to be a bit different than most deity work talked about.

She’s quiet and confusing at times and requires a lot of work. But she’s also patient and forgiving and loving. All in all if you feel a pull to her, I’d say go for it! Just be very respectful of her!

Offerings to Selene, the Greek goddess of the moon <3

1: Learning about the moon in her honor. This will make her happier and pleased, since the moon is her domain. 2: Selenite and moonstones. These crystals represent the moon and Selene, you can tell by their names. You can also pray to Selene with these. 3: Rituals with the moon. This one is self-explanatory. You can even talk to the moon or sing to it to make her happy. 4: Seashells. Since the moon has control over the tides, so does Selene. So during low tides, go to the beach and find seashells and use them as offerings to her.

5: Tea. There are recipes for Selene tea. I personally like to bless my tea with selenite or moonstone before I drink it. 6: Moon water. Moon water is made by cleansing a bowl with incense, filling it with water, and leaving it overnight underneath the moonlight. It’s used for offerings for many deities, and some people even use it for spells or rituals. It can even be used in baths and for cleansing your face and body. 7: Acts of kindness to others. Selenite is the goddess of Childbirth. She is also described as a kind, gentle, and beautiful goddess. Would a kind goddess like if someone was not being as kind as she hopes for? Nope. 8: Acts of self care. This one goes for every deity, not just Selene. She wants us to honor and take care of ourselves. And to be kind to ourselves, not just others.

The doorbell was heard from across the room as you are sitting on your couch reading your book, unwinding after work. You don't remember expecting a delivery or any visitation so you reluctantly place your book down and move towards the door wondering who could it have been? Is not that late in the evening and none of your family lives in the city.

"Who is it?" You ask placing your eye on the door to look through the peephole only to find the timid stature of your coworker Steven Grant fiddling with his dress jacket and holding a box of chocolates.

"Is me, Steven, I-" Not letting him finish his sentence, you open the door with a warm smile on your face. You liked Steven, he was warm and funny and a very nice company to keep around.

"Good to see you, Steven, I wasn't expecting you. But do come in." Manners were always your forte, having always listened to your parents growing up.

"I'm sorry.." Steven starts a nervous expression on his face, not holding your gaze as he looked between you and the box of chocolates he was holding.

"I don't mean to bother you." He clears his throat further and more determinedly.

"You're not, Steven, don't worry. I was just reading my book." You shake your head and motion for him to come in closer.

"These are for you." He smiles and hands you the box with a smile on his face. "I heard Lenny say that it was your birthday and I didn't" He shakes his head looking at you. "I didn't want to neglect to get you anything."

You can feel your heart beating faster at his extremely sweet gesture. Celebrating birthdays was never your priority, but it could become now.

"Steven you didn't have to, honestly I'm not big on celebrating my birthday." You shake your head looking at him the smile still shining brightly on your lips.

"No!" He cuts you off shaking his hands. "You should absolutely celebrate yourself, you- you deserve it, you work so hard."

You can only smile back at his sweet words and nod your head as you examine the box between your hands. "Very well, but only if I share them with you."

Steven nods his head and walks inside your apartment, following you as you move to him to sit on the couch. Your book and your blanket are evident.

"I could even offer you some warm chocolate."

"Even better." Steven smiles and looks at you and somehow you know this is going to be one of your best birthdays.

Its been weeks you've been working for the D.D.D. , you stayed in your work station and do the usual works.

However, those days passed, you got yourself a motivation whenever he check in. Who? The famous milkman of town, Francis Mosses.

What makes him special? Was it his tired eyes? His soft and deep voice whenever he greeted you for checking in? You have no idea..

All you know you were smitten for the exhausted milk delivery man, and you can tell if he is the real one or not. Though there are times you almost let in the doppelganger because on how they almost perfect their form of Francis, either way you never let it in or else you'll be in trouble for cause of death of the apartment residents.

This day he's one of the listed entry resident, perhaps you can have a longer conversation with him?

You inhaled and exhaled as you open the metal window to start your work.

Where is Francis?

You grew impatient after checking in four people and making sure they're not a doppelganger. Atlas Francis arrived, Tired as usual as he shows his entry request.

Odd...

' Perhaps he's a doppelganger? '

You tapped on the window trying get his attention , when he noticed you questioned where is his Id.

"My Id? My apologies, i forgot to show my Id" He said softly and audible for us to hear from the other glass side of the window.

' looks like everything is in check..wait hold on a minute '

You decide to double check his appearance and his ID, soon enough checking his files and you found the false thing about him.

"I don't remember Francis having a Mole"

"FUCK!" Cursed the doppelganger as he grew angry. This isn't the first time they would be angry, they almost got it perfect but fail because of a small detail.

"I didn't take that into account.

You're not easy to fool.

That makes me want to devour you even more." You shivered as they banged on the protected glass window , you immediately closed the metal cover.

"Can I visit you at night while you sleep? " the doppelganger said from the other side as they continue to hit on the metal cover.

"Yeah no thanks pal, I'd let francis in but not you" you jokingly said and dialed the D.D.D. services.

"Oh? Looks like the stationed guard is hoping for a mutual feeling, ill get you next time.." You immediately regret saying that, especially to a doppelganger, Knowing full well they would use the information they know against you.

You heard the D.D.D. services arrived and waited for it to finish. Soon the cleaning services opened the metal door telling you the 'operation cleaning is done and you may resume your work.'

You felt like a stupid hopeless romantic, now the doppelganger knew you're into Francis and would take that into their account to try getting in.

Soon enough, the real Francis arrived.

He showed both of his ID and Entry request.

ID and expiration date? Good.

Entry Request? Seem Accurate enough.

Appearance? perfect.

Your hands shakes as you checked the list as Francis waited for you to speak.

"Is it all good?" He asked with his usual tired voice as you nodded your head and waited for you to open the door.

"I-" you stammer wanting to say something as Francis stared at you.

"Yes?."

"...i-i well..." You started as you scratch the back of your head. "P-perhaps a date ? Only if you're available" you asked as Francis tired eyes widen abit from your offer.

"..That wouldn't be bad, tomorrow sounds good?" He asked with a slight smile , making your face go red from the overwhelming joy and excitement.

"Y-yes! Please!" You blurt out and realized you look so eager in front of him.

"Alright, mind opening the door for me now?" Francis asked as he carried his ID and work bag , You covered your face embarrassed on how you react to his answer and opened the metal door for him.

"See you Y/n "

Important facts about Hekate, the goddess of witchcraft, night, necromancy, and ghosts

During her earliest appearance in Hesiod's book 'Theogony', she was depicted as a goddess with dominion over the earth, sea, and sky; her later appearances, however, made her a goddess of the Underworld associated with magic and witchcraft.

In comparison to Selene, goddess of the moon, who represents the calmness of the night, Hekate represents its terrors and darkness.

Artemis (also considered a goddess of the moon), Selene, and Hekate were sometimes worshiped together due to their similarities, especially in Rome. They were worshiped as a triad mostly by women and children.

People made an offering for her when they were about to work with magic or the dead.

She aided Demeter in search of her daughter Persephone

She is a Liminal Goddess because she can easily move from the Underworld to the real world. She is the 'guide', that is why she is depicted with torches and is described as the one who can unlock the ''gates of death'' by Theocritus.

She is tightly associated with Eleusinian Mysteries, the secret celebrations of Demeter and Persephone.

She had a few temples and cults in Greece and small household shrines to ward off evil.
