Kintsugi - Bluebird
This post contains spoilers for my Miraculous Ladybug fan fic, Kintsugi - The Beauty in Broken Things on Ao3
https://archiveofourown.org/works/46534516/chapters/117177979
Tumblr media
Introducing Bluebird aka Centi Couffaine, heroic wielder of the Peacock Miraculous and Sentimonster (SENTIMAL! ~ Duusu) clone of Ladybug. I drew this over the course of a month from April to May, and have only been able to post it now to avoid giving away plot points until she actually got the Miraculous in the fic, which is in the chapter which went up today.
If you want to know more, you’ll need to read the fic ;)

t vez la palabra, desvanecerse
Google Translate tells me this means "Fade away". Please tell me if I am incorrect!
She didn’t remember being born – except she did. Not in a real sense of it, but created memories that had been placed inside her.
A life, learning, love, connection.
Oh how much she wanted it to be real.
She feels as though a lifetime of moments occur when her creator brings her fingers together.
She has lived no more than a day, and yet she is greedy for more. She is not content with going gently.
Her creator had not given her the part that went peacefully.
Her life – her fake life – her being.
A snap.
And she fades away.
Send me a word, I'll write you a hundred!

Nathalie Sancoeur
Just a reminder that as of the Senti-beings are people episodes, Nathalie is now along with anything else:
An unrepentant murderer.
No akumatization, no ignorance to excuse her, she knew what Adrien was. She knew what Senti-people were. She killed Sentibug openly and knowingly.

Bethany's Bizarre Miraculous Reviews Episode 3-24: The Expulsion Episode (aka Ladybug)
Alright, for research purposes I decided to watch Volpina just to go back to season 1 and see if I was being too harsh on Marinette. The results I came to were that Marinette was partially motivated by Lila being a crappy person. But yeah. Big Lila episode. Big salt episode. I bet the expulsion portion's going to be gone through in no time flat.
Long-ass dinner table. Seriously, man. Do you want yourself and your son to be that not-even-metaphorically distant just so you can have the edge seats of your dinner table with too many goddamn seats? Do you ever have any big occasions where a bunch of people come over and have dinner these days that would put this table to use?
...Marinette's having another birthday party so soon? It's getting even harder for me to believe that thi-wait a minute! This is a flashback!
Lila just conveniently being in a building near where Marinette's birthday party is taking place.
Gabriel's just like "What's the hold-up, Lila? You're supposed to be relevant to the plot, remember? You declared war on Marinette."
Oh god I'm getting secondhand embarrassment from how poorly Marinette is handling this. I can't watch.
Lila's mom isn't even there while Marinette's is lmao
I was right. It did go fast!
The funniest anticlimax. "Time for a massive battle royale! Sike! Natalie's sick from using the Peacock Miraculous like Hawkmoth knew would happen when she first used it!"
Alya's majorly looking out for Marinette. What an amazing bestie. Those fics were wrong. Marinette's parents seem to believe her too.
Natalie you doofus simp
So is Duusuu supposed to be like that or is that the effect of a broken Miraculous or?
So the Peacock Miraculous just needs an object? Not a separate person or anything?
...And none of the heroes said anything about Mayura even after she appeared on-scene? No one noticed either?
Another clone shootoff so soon?
Natalie killed sapient life when she couldn't fufill her purpose anymore. Points docked.
Well, he's less "grandpa" and more "pa" if you catch my drift, Cattablack.
And there's the lying disease. They should really tell that to the class so they don't fall into any misinformation pits.
Well, at this point I don't know what to say here. That if Marinette should be expelled, it should be for creeping on Adrien or something? This is getting tiring. And the next two episodes are Chloe's character execution.
You know what? Here's something.
I might've said this before, but the reason why I'm getting so into Miraculous in the first place is to write a fanfic where I enter the world of Miraculous as someone completely OP and suplex and utterly defeat Hawkmoth. I'll also be doing other work, such as breaking down the lovesquare and outing other evils in the Miraculous world such as Chloe's karen of a mother, and also Lila. Except instead of suplexing her, I'll have to get tricky. Psychological warfare. Lila is a smuggie and hates being called a liar, so I know she'll get fuming if you say she's bad at lying! Like, seriously. There are a thousand other pets Jagged Stone would be more likely to own than a kitten. Not to mention poking holes in her lies or busting out alibis or people that have a sixth sense for others' personalities!

"But you can't do that"
-someone once said.
The miraculous's writers realized quite late how broken orikko's power was and now he conveniently can't copy powers from other kwamis...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This nerf only exists so that Gaby does not achieve his objective before time because under the established rules he should not be able to have any ability. This considering that the universe is immense and there must be an infinity of concepts and kwamis with varied powers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Obviously this is not the case with Nooroo and Duusu, who can give you whatever power you want without any restrictions, which just goes to show that they are still the most powerful kwamis in existence.
But Gaby doesn't use them because...potato.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Speaking of plot conveniences...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"They can't go against other kwami magic"
At this point I assume they are making excuses for Gaby to stop asking for that.
Well, it is no mystery that the series has to last at least 7 seasons and if the script must nerf each kwami for the sake of the series' duration, it will.
For everything you wonder about the kwamis, a sorcerer did it, don't think too much about it.
Tumblr media
This time I'm going to take Gabriel "the fool" Agreste at his word, they are useless.

I don't know if you've ever talked/reflected on this but… have you ever thought about the idea of "souls" in Miraculous? I don't know, I was tormented by that a few nights ago because the very pointed and never dealt with in depth situation with the senti.
Obviously Felix thinks that they are ALL sentient creatures that deserve to live and "undoing" is equivalent to living but even writing this I'm talking about "creatures" not people which also means that I myself have a bias that the more human, the more "real" I see them.
Of course GabNat don't see them as more than tools but they very obviously think differently from the particular case of *Adrien* so I have to wonder if for them "intention" is what makes Adrien different, endowed with a soul so to speak. And LB is the heroine, in theory the bastion of morality, but, if I'm not mistaken, there is only one case in which she treat a senti as if they were a person worthy of having their own free will and they are sentibug, after that we have others (I'm thinking of sentibubble) and (although I understand that they had no way of freeing them and they have to stop them) they also don't spend a moment reflecting that they could be just as dignified.
I don't know, just all these mixed up ideas of what makes them "real" beyond a construct and that Felix thinks the mere idea of creation is enough, while the villains seem to think there are "exceptions" and I don't have no idea what the parameter of the heroine or Kagami for that matter would be.
I really want to hear your thoughts
OK, so I clicked publish before I even got a chance to write anything. Because I’m a genius. Anon I’m so sorry.
ANYWAYS you raise an excellent question, so I’m going to try my best to put my thoughts in order! 🦚
First of all, it seems Thomas Astruc himself differentiates between “human” Sentibeings and others:
Tumblr media
Which seems to imply different levels of sentience: for instance, Adrien is no different from any regular child, while Feast exhibits behaviours that are closer to an animal’s. Not that it makes abusing or destroying him acceptable in any way, but I don’t think we’re supposed to feel as much towards him as towards the Sentikids.
(I do. I feel all the feels for Feast. Feast is my baby boy and I will never stop mourning him.)
If intent is truly what determines a Senti’s level of sentience, then this raises many questions as to which ones were created with that objective in mind. And interestingly, it doesn’t actually seem to be tied to whether they look “human” or not.
Sentibug is the first Sentibeing that is explicitly shown to have a soul of her own. Mayura wanted her to be a perfect copy of Ladybug, and that backfired the second she got a hold of her own amok; she shares the heroine’s strong sense of justice, and immediately sided with her at the cost of her life.
Tumblr media
What does it mean for humanoid Sentis that were created after S3? Specifically, Senti-Gabriel and Senti-Bubbler? As far as I recall, they don’t get a chance to speak for themselves and express their own identity. If they were to be freed, would they act of their own volition or model their behaviour after their human counterpart? What would that mean for Felix, who was created out of jealousy over Adrien? Would Shadowmoth be able to create Sentibeings who simply look human, but are only granted a “lower” level of sentience to avoid a repeat of the Sentibug debacle?
Tumblr media
The more I’m writing, the more I hate the idea of nitpicking sentience levels. It feels like the exact same logic Gabriel, Tomoe or Colt would use to justify the way they (mis)treat their children.
Felix also rejects the idea of a sentience hierarchy — especially based on the Sentibeings’ appearance and ability to speak for themselves.
Strikeback looks absolutely terrifying — monstruous, even. There’s nothing remotely human about them; and yet, Felix feels heartbroken and guilty as he lets Ladybug yeet them into the Sun.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Red Moon is also scary — in a stranger, more ominous, beautiful kind of way. An important feature about her is that she is unable to speak for herself; yet Argos still calls her his sister, and it is pretty clear from the way he interacts with her that she can understand him and experience emotions just as complex as his.
Tumblr media
From a purely doylist explanation — I think Sentis are whatever the writing team needs them to be in the moment. This was made extra clear with the creation and (probable) destruction of Once Upon A Time, so they could try something new in terms of storytelling:
Tumblr media
The play was very fun (read: tragic), don’t get me wrong, but I feel like the writers kind of got in their own way here.
The thing is — while the delivery isn’t the most consistent or satisfactory, you can tell that there is an intent to say something through the existence and treatment of Sentibeings.
Adrien, Felix and Kagami are, or course, child abuse survivors:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But they are also extremely queer-coded:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And very likely neurodivergent:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m sure there’s a lot of other communities who can see themselves represented in these kids — the common thread between these demographics being that we know what it feels like to be othered.
How many queer people are being mistreated for being “too overtly gay, why can’t you just be normal about it”? Or rejected by their own community, based on arbitrary standards?
How many neurodivergent people are being treated as subhuman, simply because they do not have the capability to advocate for themselves? Or because they are disabled “in the wrong way”?
As for abuse survivors? The hard truth is that they aren’t always perfect victims, who automatically know how to behave healthily once they’re out of a bad situation — especially not when they are literal children, who have never experienced anything else in their lives. There are after-effects, wounds that might get infected if you don’t tend to them, behaviours to unlearn. And yes, the healing process can look ugly, but they deserve some grace — a chance to grow and make it right.
Tumblr media
Oftentimes, these biases come from figures of authority who are typically seen as “progressive”, or people who have the best intentions in the world — like Ladybug, who originally failed to see Sentis as human or even just sentient, unless they looked exactly like her.
Tumblr media
All that to say — the approach that I take when thinking or writing about Sentibeings is the same as Felix’s not taking the Once incident into consideration: that all Sentis are sentient, to the same level, until proven otherwise. Is it necessarily coherent with what has been shown on screen? Not really, but I think it’s truer to the intended message!
And because I’m not one to pass up an opportunity, have some Transmasc Felix Propaganda:

Okay, I think I need to share some of the headcannons me and Nina came up with for Sentibug
I personally believe that Adrien would be the one to take in and introduce her to the world. He was so devastated by what happened, you just know he thinks about her often. He is such a sweetheart (and also a sentibeing) he would be so thrilled to be her guiding light. She also needs somewhere to sleep and the Agreste Manor conveniently has a bedroom to spare.
Given the nature of the relationship, he sort of has to reveal he is Chat Noir, which means Adrien FINALLY has someone else to confide in about this.
I have been thinking about what her civilian self would look like and honestly? I think she would look like what Nathalie is picturing Ladybug looks like under the mask. The lower half of her face would look the same, but she would have thicker brows/different facial structure/MOLES as @ninadove suggested
I have been thinking about a name, and I think initially Adrien would refer to her hero form as Coccinelle (Ladybug in French) to differentiate the two of them. The name they would eventually give her civilian self would be Mireille which is a French name that means miracle (OR miraculous)
Any and all assumptions Nathalie made about Ladybug's civilian self translated onto her which means her wardrobe is Nathalie's "What are the teens wearing these days?" Which means she wears business casual with lots of floral and pretty patterns. Definitely NOT what the teens are wearing but it suits her.
How she is able to come back is that once a sentibeing is created, their soul/memory/being is stored within the miraculous in a similar manor to the previous holders (which begs the question... would they be reachable with a kwagatama?) and the holder of the peacock can revive them so long as they are willing.

Submitted Prompt: The Long Con, by @walks-the-ages
An AU for the episode "Ladybug"--
What if Mayura had been smart and decided to go for the long-con with her "Sentibug", after seeing just how Adrien reacts to the 'love of his life' actively dying in his arms?
So, instead of giving up the charade when the real Ladybug appears...
Mayura has Sentibug collapse, crying out in pain, distracting Chat Noir from Cataclysming Marinette's Miraculous.
Adrien immediately rushes to Sentibug's side, just in time for her to reach up, clasp his hand, tell him she loves him, and begs him to promise her he won't destroy the imposter's Miraculous, he has to promise to save the imposter from themselves, it's her last dying wish...
Then she disintegrates into dust as Mayura strategically releases the amok from existence.
And Adrien is now fully, completely, 200% against Marinette, and is going to fight her every single chance he gets, no matter how many times she points out the obvious flaws in what went down, no matter how many times she points out how illogical it is--
Adrien doesn't care about logic.
He only cares about his feelings and the fact that he was finally vindicated, only to have his prize snatched away at the last second.
Eventually, Adrien would probably actively even team up with Hawkmoth and Mayura, all they'd have to do is spin a quick, half-assed tale of how "That evil ladybug imposter that you've been fighting got out of control, we never meant to hurt Ladybug , let alone kill her, if you help us defeat the rogue imposter, we can bring the real Ladybug back!"
They can even blame Mayura's illness on the Evil Ladybug Imposter who killed the love of his life.
