change - paul lahote

a/n: it’s been a minute, and honestly, i’m expecting this blog to be done with writing soon :( idk what to do with it now so expect less and less from me and more shit posting rather than actual writing. but here’s something!!

it had been quite a long day for the pack. it was only the third time that you and paul have met, and he broke the news to you that you are his imprint. but liking jacob, you refused to believe it was true. this led to you and paul fighting, jacob trying to get in, but making it worse, and paul wanting to just run off into the forest.

but, with his newfound control because of you being his imprint, he didn’t. he calmed down, took a few deep breaths, and stalked off to the guest room to be alone for a while.

the pack had dispersed, with jared and embry going on patrol, jake and seth heading back home for dinner after jacob had a chat with you, and sam attempting to check on paul. emily and kim stayed put with you, wanting to make sure you were okay and everything was fine.

however, you wanted to be alone for a while. all of this had caused you to become very overwhelmed and needing a break of just nothing. so, you head out onto the back porch of sam and emily’s house, stranded here because jacob drove you here.

you take a seat on the porch swing, throwing the cover that you brought out over your legs. the weather had cooled a lot and the smell of rain was in the air. unsurprisingly, only a couple minutes later, rain started to fall from the sky.

dark clouds took over yet there was no thunder or lightning, just a nice, peaceful rainstorm. you breathe in the scent of petrichor, your eyes fluttering closed as the sound fills your ears too. rain was one of your favorite things.

the way it turns everything a bright, vibrant green, or at least a green that doesn’t look dry and dead. the way it sounds when it falls onto the roof of a house, or leaves and branches, how serene it is to listen to on dreadful and mentally taxing days. like today.

rain is exactly what you needed to calm your mind. and you could feel it working. your shoulders weren’t as tensed and you were starting to forget, or put aside, what had happened today.

unfortunately, your peace was ruined by the back door opening, and none other than paul stepping out. he offers you an apologetic smile, one that reads he’s not looking for a fight, but to instead reconcile and fix things.

he cautiously sits next to you, as far as he can on the left side of the swing. he says nothing for a few seconds.

“you know, when i was younger, i never liked the rain,” he finally speaks up, staring straight out into the backyard of sam and emily’s house. you don’t dare to look over at him just yet. “i always associated them with storms, and lightning. and despite what my family told me about storms, i hated them. i liked sunny weather, when i could feel the sun on my skin and not have to be stuck inside all day.”

you don’t say anything, but you decide to glance over at him. he doesn’t move.

“then when i went through this transformation, i had a newfound love for rain. running off into the forest in my wolf form, laying down under a fallen tree or just out in the open of the forest, feeling the rain fall onto my fur and feel so incredibly free. no worries in the world, no responsibilities, nothing but the sound and feel of rain. and i also do like staying inside, getting to cuddle up next to a fire, or just under a blanket. because of my body heat, there’s no need for a fire, right?” you can’t help the giggle that falls from your lips, and paul catches this.

his head whips in your direction, and he smiles, happy that some progress has been made, at least in his mind.

“but most importantly, i think about coming home to you. you being there to dry me off after i’ve shifted back, allowing me to do so with a towel or cheekily helping me because you just want to be close to me. i long for that, (y/n). i long to be with you, and yeah, it may be because something in the universe told me that you’re the one, but also, having gotten to know you over the past few days, i have really grown to like you. and i know you have a thing for jacob and everything, but i would love it if you give me a chance. and i know what jacob has said about me in the past, and i want to prove that it’s not true.”

you still don’t say anything, but your eyes soften as he finishes his speech.

“jacob talked to me earlier before he left,” you whisper. paul puts all of his attention on you, his gaze filling with concern and worry. “he said…he said i should let him go and start new with you. that we wouldn’t be anything more than friends because you’re the one i’m meant to be with. i’m your imprint and that’s more important than anything.”

paul nods along, not knowing where you’re going with this.

“and i want to do that,” you admit. paul perks up and he turns slightly towards you. “i don’t want to focus on jacob anymore. like he said, i am your imprint, and i’m ready to accept that.” paul smiles widely and moves just a bit closer to you.

“so, would you want to stay the night with me? or is that too soon?” he asks. thinking about it for a moment, you reach for his hand, shocking him, to say the least.

“i’d love to, paul. cuddling and listening to the rain has always been a favorite pastime of mine.” paul chuckles and this time, he moves flush next to your side.

he hesitates, but you welcome him in by throwing the blanket over his lap. he accepts it, but going back to his statement, it’s not exactly needed.

“nice pumpkin blanket,” he comments, running his fingers along the fabric of it.

“thank you. a friend gifted it to me because pumpkins are my favorite fall decoration.”

“that’s cute. but you do know that i’m going to call you pumpkin from here on out?” he teases. you giggle and curl into his side.

“i’m okay with that. it’s a new start in a new relationship.”

I HAVE THE FUNNIEST REQUEST FOR YOU (because this actually happened to me and I need to tell someone send help please)

I started talking to this guy on a dating app a few days ago. He's a little younger than me and normally I don't really date people that are younger than me; for context, it's because I had to mature really early on (it's a whole thing, I won't get into it). Anyway, I gave him my phone number when he asked and so we've been texting ever since; he sends me cute little 'good morning' texts, tells me that he hopes I have a good day, etc. (entirely different from my last relationship of several years - for comparison, it's like I was dating Jane or Caius and suddenly jumped to Seth???).

SO ON SUNDAY, I had been up all night trying to get roleplay stuff together and I stupidly went down to the mini Mart by my house early in the morning (still sleep deprived) to get some coffee, and before I left, I took a cute little selfie in the car and sent it to him. Well I was all excited from how cute the selfie was, and when I climbed out of the car, I LOCKED MY KEYS IN THE CARRRRR FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE I WAS TWELVE.

‘Call me maybe?’- Seth Clearwater Headcannon!!

• You had just so happen to meet Seth through Jacobs 17th birthday party. The conversation was very tame, introducing yourself to one another, talking about up coming events and how you liked the small, yet fun party.

• Seth was going to leave early as he had his ‘studies’ to get to. You took your shot and walked over to him, saying your goodbyes and offering to stay in touch. You had given him your personal number- not your home number, which you usually did.

• Sooner or later you guys started talking… a lot. You guys had also just so happened to share your facebooks with one another over call, friending each other. A very new app, Tumblr, was also something you guys had used to communicate. Well, at least on a fake account that is…

• On a very uneventful day, you had came home and opened up all of your social media to see if anything had happened. New friend request on Facebook? Except. Checking to see if Seth had texted you on Tumblr? Nothing. You had went to your other account that was used for your silly likings. Such as books, or movies, or even just clubs! Your heart sunk when you went through your followers for fun.

• You face bad became at least 3 shades lighter than what it was originally. As if on queue, Seth had called. You stared at your phone before picking it up and flipping it open, clicking on the call button… ‘Hello?’ Your voice ran over the line. ‘You’re into ___? Never knew!’ Seth said over the phone. Embarrassed you were. ‘Hey uh Seth, I’m going to have to hang up. I only have a few more minutes until my minutes run out and I can’t call anymore.’ You replied, almost wanting to die. ‘Huh? You said you had bought some extra minutes like… 2 days ago?’ He said confused. ‘Talk to you later, bye!’ I don’t think you’ve ever hung up the phone so fast.

• As if death had taken you by the hand, you avoided Seth, every chance you got. Of course it broke the poor boy’s heart, but over time you both overcame this little embarrassing moment, and now your telling it at your 3rd anniversary with Seth.

Writer Q&A Tag Game

Hello. I got tagged for this by @squarebracket-trick on this post and I thought it sounded super fun. So, here we are!

1. What motivates you to write?

I started out as an artist, but I began writing once I realized that visual art as a medium wasn't enough to tell the stories I wanted to tell - it had no way of codifying lore, defining character traits, or even just easily telling a long story. I think it's still largely that, in a way. I come up with all these stories and I "get them out" through writing because I sure as hell can't keep them inside my brain for eternity.

2. A line/short snippet of your writing that you are most proud/happy of. If not maybe share a line of someone else's work you love (just please credit them)

This one is pretty recent, from a few chapters ago in DoS, but I'm really proud of it. I just feel like it emphasizes how much Seth's experience with souls connects with the body, which is the Goddess of Time's domain. A lot of metaphors in this story centre around bodies and physicality because of this. Here's the snippet:

And yet, there was Theo, with her soul so unwound there was no fixing it anymore. The most she could do was keep healing and healing, covering the cracks of the bowl with her own hands in the hope that they'd go back to normal. Keep filling the ocean so that, no matter how many holes lined its bed, it would never be empty. [...] She held her so tight she thought her hands would fuse to her skin. As if she could cover the cracks of her soul with her own body.

Idk, I just vibe with it.

5. What part of writing do you think you are the best at? (Yes stroke your own ego it's okay)

I'd say back-and-forth banter, probably because of my time in theatre, but also horror description. It creeps up on me. I keep writing horror on accident. And I always really like it. Just something about describing something weird and spooky.

6. What do you enjoy most about the Writeblr community?

Mostly the fact that there's all these other writers who have cool stuff and also wanna see my cool stuff. I already loved writing on my own, but knowing that there are people Out There who also care about my stories just feels amazing.

And also, the casual friendship between people. You interact with someone's blog, they interact with yours, and you suddenly feel like you're friends, kinda. I can only compare it to making quick friends with someone on the playground as a kid. I like it <3

7. A writing tool/device you use that helps you with writing? (It could be speech-to-text, a writing program etc)

I am a very ✨analogue✨ person, so my best writing advice in this scenario is always: put that shit on paper.

Feel unsure about a scene? Put that shit on paper. It's like a 0.5th (hehe "halfth") draft that you will copy onto your document and you will always improve it with that second look.

Worried about perfectionism? Put that shit on paper. Even pencil, at least to me, feels hard to erase. It's mostly about living with the stuff you've written and not looking back - erasing is such a pain in the ass that you might as well just keep going forward.

Wanna write secretly during class/lectures/whatever where you're not allowed to have a device? Wadda ya know, the answer is also paper.

Wanna edit? Printing stuff out helps you get some distance from your own writing and it also makes you see it more as a book than as just something you've made.

It also generally makes you feel less bad about changing stuff later in the document, because you have a solid, physical record of what you've written before.

Put that shit on paper. It works well.

8. A piece of worldbuilding that you like in your own story? (It could be the magic system, a particular place in the story, a law etc)

I once made a post about the art movements in the world of the dystopia WIP (yes, seriously) but I can't find it anymore. I'm not gonna explain it again, it was stupidly long the first time around.

I guess, outside the dystopia WIP, I'm pretty proud of the whole Three Sister Goddesses thing from DoS. I have drawn designs, but I'll make another post sometime. I'm also proud of the relationship between the Goddesses tho.

They're at war with each other, but they're just doing it for entertainment. They kiiiinda hate each other but not as much as their desire to have fun. Like, they will send their daughters to decimate each other's armies, but they'll also hang out together in the Plane of the Gods. The war is kind of like a decades-long game of Monopoly they're having at the family function. And I just think it's cool. Goes into that whole thing about mortals being like ants to uncaring gods that I like.

9. What piece of advice would you say to encourage others to write if they are having a rough patch?

Kinda cliché, but I'd say this: it happens to everyone, dude (gender neutral). Everyone has periods of time when they feel bad and can't write. Or where they feel like their writing is terrible. Doesn't make you less of a writer.

Even if you're not as productive as other people: who cares, honestly? As long as you're having a good time and doing something you love, it doesn't matter how much time you need or don't need to finish something. Even if you never finish anything. And if you feel like you're not as good as other people: who cares either, you know? Everybody starts somewhere. And everybody has different strengths. You'll get better. You always do.

At the end of the day, we're all just doing this because we love it. Don't force yourself. The time will pass anyway.

Food in catering was always hit and miss. Sometimes they had really good choices—and then sometimes they sucked.

Tonight was one of those nights.

The plate in my hand only had two things currently on it, but I knew it wouldn’t be near enough for myself and Roman.

A soft smile graced my face as I thought of my boyfriend. We had known each other for a long time now, almost eight years. We had met back in FCW—I had been a valet for Seth. Roman was a sweet guy, charming—and very easy on the eyes; however I was still pretty young back then—and he had been in a relationship with Galina. Over the years, however, Roman and I had grown close—and the relationship with Galina had seemingly fizzled to nothing. At first, he had seemed hesitant to take our friendship to the next level—his flirtations uncertain. However, after many pep talks and un-solicited advice from both Seth and Dean, Roman had finally taken the chance.

That was three years ago.

The two of us had been through quite a bit in those years. Championship wins—championship losses; turmoil between friends (and brothers); injuries and illness; happy memories—sad memories; thousands of miles traveled together.

I wouldn’t change any second of it for anything in the world.

“Hey girl— you been smilin’ to yourself for a good couple minutes now,” Jey smirked as he slid up next to me, his eyes roaming the available food options,” Care to share?”

“Hey Jey,” I laughed,” Just… thinking. About the past couple years.”

“They been interesting, that’s for damn sure,” Jey agreed, picking up a wheat biscuit and turning it over in his hand before frowning and putting it back down.

“That it has,” I nodded, before noticing he was in his ‘ring gear’,” You got a match coming up?”

“Hmm? Oh, nah nah. I’ll just be watching Kev’s match later on… closely.”

“I see,” I chuckled,” Well, just be careful. I don’t want anything to happen to you.”

“Aww- you do care about me,” Jey gently punched my upper arm,” I appreciate it though. I’m gonna get goin’. You watch yourself, ‘kay?”

“I will. Catch you later, Jey.”

He disappeared out of catering, leaving me once again to the poor excuses of food choices. I picked up the wheat biscuit that Jey had just toyed with, turning it over in my own hand before placing it on the plate as well. As my eyes roamed the table once again, I felt shivers run down my spine—instantly on alert. And apparently for good reason.

“Well, well, well. What do we have here? Roman got you fetching his food now, too? What a sexist punk.”

“What do you want, Kevin?” I rolled my eyes, wanting nothing more than for him to just leave me alone.

“Ease up princess. I just want to talk.”

“Well, I don’t.”

“Reigns’ sour attitude is rubbing off on you—it doesn’t do you any favors. Makes you ugly—” Kevin frowned, his eyes roaming over me before grimacing,”—Rather, uglier.”

“You’re not going to accomplish anything—insulting me. Roman won’t fall for your childish—”

“Childish what–? Nothing childish here, except your little boyfriend,” Kevin interrupted as he crossed his arms.

My jaw twitched in frustration, refusing to look at him.

“What’s the matter princess? Pissed off?” Kevin asked,” Good! Maybe Roman will grow a pair and meet me out in the ring later tonight. Probably not.”

“Keep running your mouth—Roman will kick your ass. Again!”

With such an intensity that it took me by surprise, Kevin reached out and slapped the plate from my hands. The contents scattered across the floor as I looked to him in shock, my eyes wide.

If we were being perfectly honest—I felt fear as well.

Kevin pointed a finger in my face, his own red with anger,” Listen here, you little—”

“Back off the lady,” a strong Scottish voice demanded, as the tall Drew McIntyre suddenly came into view. He stood between myself and Kevin, looking down at the shorter man and glaring at him.

“What are you even doing here, McIntyre? You’re on Raw—not Smackdown. Go home—we don’t want you here,” Kevin sniped back.

“I was asked here by the General Manager,” Drew explained, crossing his arms in front of him,” Now—are we gonna have a problem ‘ere?”

I saw Kevin briefly glance around Drew towards me, before scoffing,” Nah- no problem. She’s more trouble than she’s worth. Word of advice though—don’t fall for her innocent act. Y/N– tell Roman I’ll be seeing him.”

With that, Kevin walked out of catering and disappeared down the hallway, as Drew turned and looked at me. As soon as his hazel eyes met my y/e/c- I quickly looked down. Seeing the food on the floor, I ducked down and began picking it up. I was barely aware of Drew kneeling down beside me until his larger hand was placed on one of my much smaller ones.

“You don’t have ta do that lass,” Drew told me softly.

“I-if I don’t… who will?”

“At least let me help ya then.”

“You don’t have to!” I insisted, looking up into his eyes.

“If I don’t, who will?” he asked, using my own words against me, a gentle smirk on his face. A few moments later, after most of the food had been picked back up and thrown in the garbage- I reached for another plate before Drew gently took my hand in his.

“Why are you doin’ this for him lass?”

“What do you mean?”

“Fetchin’ him food—he’s a grown ass man—”

“Yeah, he is. And I’m a grown ass woman,” I frowned, yanking my hand away from him,” I choose to get Roman food—he’s a busy man. A busy Champion—something I think you could relate to. Besides, the food’s not just for him, it’s for me too.”

“I’ve watched Smackdown lass—I’ve seen how he’s changed. That title’s changed him,” Drew told me, his voice soft,” You’re a smart girl, y/n/n. I don’t want to see ya get hurt.”

“I appreciate the concern, but it’s not needed. Roman has never hurt me—and he never will. I believe in him—I always have, always will.”

“Ya need someone that’ll love you the way you deserve,” Drew murmured, his eyes boring into mine,” Be careful with yourself, Love.”

With that, Drew walked off—leaving me standing in catering alone with only my thoughts.

Later that night, I was walking through the hallway backstage on my way to Roman’s locker room—stopping when I heard someone call out my name.

“Y/N/N—excuse me, Y/N/N—can I get a moment?” Turning around, I saw Renee and a cameraman quickly walking up towards me.

“Renee, I really don’t—”

“Just a small moment, I just want to get your thoughts on what happened earlier, between you and Kevin Owens.”

With a sigh, I crossed my arms in front of me,” Alright—but quick, please. I’ve gotta be somewhere.”

“Of course—how are you holding up after that altercation with Kevin Owens?”

“I’m fine—I mean, yeah, I’ll admit. I was a bit afraid of what Owens might do. There’s a lot of animosity between him and Roman right now. Owen’s will do anything to get under Roman’s skin—or, rather, try to.”

“Will Roman confront Kevin Owens for what he done earlier?”

“That’s exactly what Owens wants- which is exactly why Roman—”

The clearing of a throat interrupted what I was going to say. Looking over my shoulder, I instantly groaned in annoyance as I saw Paul Heyman slinking up to where Renee and I stood.

“What…. Do we have going on here?” Heyman asked, one arm supporting the other by the elbow, pointing with his other hand between us.

“Renee just had some questions about earlier—”

“Questions? So… she was interviewing you?” Heyman asked, clarifying the situation, before asking,” Did Roman approve of this little interview?”

“Well—I mean, no—but it’s just some questions about—” I began, before being interrupted once more.

“The Head of the Table will not be pleased about this—I assure you now,” Heyman sighed,” The last thing I want is for you to get into trouble with Roman, honestly. I like you Y/N/N—I really do. I respect the relationship you’ve held with Roman over the years.”

His blatant lies only irritated me further and all I wanted to do was slap him across the face. Several times. With a brick.

But I held back. He was helping Roman—and Roman kept him around for his own reasons. I had to respect that.

“That being said- any further questions that you have Renee—can be directed to me.”

“Well, I—I guess…” Renee hesitated,” Aside from the altercation with Kevin Owens, we saw that Drew McIntyre seemed to have some advice for you Y/N/N. What’s your thoughts on what he had to say?”

“Drew—” I began, before Heyman cut me off once again.

“Drew McIntyre has no business on Smackdown. This—is Roman Reigns’ yard. If he doesn’t want put in his place, then he’ll keep out of business that has nothing to do with him. Kevin Owens—he’ll get what’s coming to him, at the discretion of the Big Dog. Now, if that’s all.”

It was a question—even Renee could tell.

Heyman leaned towards me,” We… should go see Roman. He’ll want to talk to you about… this.”

Of course—he was going to spin this against me. Try and get Roman angry enough with me—to what? Break up with me? It was no secret among the rest of the locker room that Heyman and I didn’t like one another. Hell, even Roman knew how it was between Heyman and myself—but anytime we started bickering, a look from Roman instantly quieted us both.

Wordlessly, I followed Heyman through the backstage area for a few moments until we reached a door embellished with a golden plaque that read ‘Roman Reigns’.

Heyman gave a few quick knocks on the door, waiting for Roman to give the verbal okay to enter, before he ushered me into the room and closed the door behind him.

“Sir, I do hate to bring any bad news, especially when it concerns Y/N/N—”

Roman’s attention suddenly landed on us, as he looked up from the paper before him. His eyes were cold, calculating—but concerned, as well. Heyman probably didn’t see that part, even I barely caught it.

“—She was In the midst of an interview when I came upon her. Renee was asking her about an earlier altercation with Kevin Owens and the interaction with Drew McIntyre that followed. I understand that there is a relationship between the two of you, so I do believe that the punishment shouldn’t be so severe, not like with Jey. How—”

“Punishment?” I recoiled, glaring at Heyman as Roman leaned back in his chair,” Are you kidding me?! It was simple questions—about me. Nothing to do with Roman. I shouldn’t need approval for something like that. You honestly think that Roman will punish me for something so trivial?”

“Not only did you have an unapproved interview—but you and Drew McIntyre’s blatant flirtations backstage did not go unnoticed.”

“Flirtations?! He was making sure I was okay after Owen’s got up in my face! He was being a gentleman—nothing more!” I exclaimed, standing in Heyman’s face; I was livid, continuing,” Drew flirts—it’s what he does. It’s a European thing I guess—hell if I know. All you care about though, is yourself Heyman. If something doesn’t fit the picture you see—then you skew it and make it fit. You don’t care what lies you have to tell or what lives you have to ruin—but I’ll be damned it you come between—”

“Y/N/N.”

Roman’s deep voice interrupted me, causing me to glance away from Heyman for a second. I could tell Roman wasn’t happy—and there was a glint of something unfamiliar in his eyes.

“Paul,” Roman breathed out, pinching the bridge of his nose with his fingers,” Leave us for a bit.”

“Take a walk.”

“Oh, uhm. Of course, Sir. As you wish.”

As he turned towards the door, I didn’t miss the smirk that tugged at his lips—and it only pissed me off more. Balling up my fist as I took a step towards him, I readied a strike—until—

“Y/F/N,” Roman’s stern voice rang through the room, making me freeze in place. Swallowing the lump in my throat, I clenched and unclenched my hand as the door closed, taking deep breaths to calm myself down.

“Why must you two always do that?” Roman asked, his slate gray eyes on me.

“I don’t like him—never have. Never will.”

“I know,” Roman gave a chuckle, his cold demeanor briefly disappearing. I looked over my shoulder and saw Roman smiling softly at me. He lifted his hand and motioned me over, patting his thigh for me to sit on.

I walked over and gently sat down, allowing him to pull my legs up into his lap as he wrapped an arm around them to secure me closer to his body. The warmth he radiated was always welcome—I tended to get cold easier than most. I rest my head against his shoulder and just took a moment to enjoy the quiet time alone with Roman.

“What’d Owens say earlier?” he asked, breaking the silence.

“Nothing- don’t worry—”

“Babygirl,” Roman shook his head, looking down towards me,” He comes at me—I can handle that, it don’t bother me. But he went at you—and that’s not okay with me.”

“He just—” I thought back to what had been said, realizing it wasn’t much after all,”—He said your sour attitude was rubbing off on me, that you wouldn’t grow a pair and meet him in the ring later. When I said you’d kick his ass again, he—he smashed the plate in my hands to the ground. Kinda took me by surprise. Makes me glad Drew did show up… I honestly don’t know what he would have done if Drew hadn’t happened by.”

“He got physical with you?” Roman demanded, sitting up straight and staring at me.

“Well, I mean—not really, he just—”

I felt like Roman was staring into my soul, and as I sighed deeply I just let the fight go.

“—Yes. He got physical with me.”

Instantly, Roman gently slid me off his lap and stood—beginning to pace near the desk. I could feel the anger radiating off of him.

“That son’f’bitch—I’m gonna kill him. Kick his ass and then kill him. He had no right going after you! This is between him and me! That little punk ass—”

As much as I adored his rambling sometime, I knew he was in a dark mindset, so I placed myself in front of him—cutting off his pacing. He looked down at me—but I knew he was looking right through me. Slowly, I placed my hands on his torso, bringing him back to earth.

“Ro.”

At the sound of my voice, he seemed to gather himself—focusing on me once again.

“Kick his ass all you want—but please, baby, don’t get in trouble. If they suspend you—or fire you? Then I’m here. All alone.”

“Can’t have that,” he murmured, pulling me closer to him in a tight hug.

“No, we can’t,” I whispered, wrapping my arms around his back and holding him close.

It was times like these that I cherished most—because it reminded me that, despite the world seeing him as this cold, uncaring monster, he was still my Roman. My kind, loving—sometimes goofy—Samoan Prince Charming.

“What did McIntyre want?”

“Pretty much just making sure Owen’s didn’t try anything further, made sure I was okay,” I told Roman, pausing before adding,” He also warned me that I needed someone different. Someone that would love me the way I deserved to be.”

It was quiet for a moment, before I heard Roman whisper,” He’s right…”

I shook my head as much as I could against his chest,” No, he’s not. Nobody realizes the love that we truly share, Ro. No one sees you back here—moments like this? All they see is the uncaring, rough asshole that you are out there. They don’t realize—that you’re still the tender, caring, kind-hearted, loyal Big Dog you’ve always been. But I see it. Every day, when we wake up in the morning; when we’re in the car on the way to the arena; when it’s just you and I in here because you sent Heyman scurrying away on some ridiculous errand.”

He scoffed a bit, chucking,” Gotta get rid of him somehow.”

“And I’m so glad that you do,” I laughed, looking up at him, adding the most sincere tone I could,” I love you, Roman. Always have—always will.”

“I love you to, Baby girl. You’re the best thing that’s happened to me- no doubt.”

He leaned down at pressed a kiss to my forehead, before walking us over to the large reclining chair. He sat down first, then carefully pulled me down with him, holding me close as he could.

“What would the Head of the Table like?”

“Right now?” he asked me; I gave him a nod, so he continued, a loving twinkle in his eye,” Just sit here with me, Baby girl. Just… stay with me for a bit.”

“Anything for you, Ro,” I whispered, leaning my head in the crook of his neck and closing my eyes blissfully.

Times like this—I wouldn’t trade for nothing.

Times like this—I knew exactly where I belonged.

im becoming a fan bc of spiderverse and i love your blog <3 ive seen a couple wes anderson movies/scott pilgrim but are there any movies or shows you’d recommend? thank u!!

okay so fair warning, outside of the animated movies, the wes anderson ones, and spvtw, pretty much all jschwartz movies and shows are going to contain something mildly graphic at the least. usually it's weird sex which I think is awesome but I can't recommend viewing if you're a minor (most of my followers aren't tho so I'm not worried)

anyway, here are recs with my personal thoughts! (reading the little reviews is not mandatory but suggested? I guess if you want a better idea of what you're getting into)

Shopgirl (2005)

Besides Steve Martin's absolutely rancid performance, I'm actually a huge fan of this movie and I think it's so enjoyable. it's not a masterpiece, but there was clearly a lot of intent and thought put into the design choices and cinematography (I've written papers on the color symbolism!) and though the story isn't amazingly coherent because it was adapted from a much better written novella, it is still at least enjoyable. I love the atmosphere, and I think it's a very unconventional romance film that explores the unhealthy relationships that are glamorized in similar media as sexy and desirable (ray porter is a character that existed before, and yet still makes fun of toxic love interests like christian gray). and I like how it extremely accurately represents what it's like being a severely depressed lonely woman.

I'm inherently biased here because I watched this movie for the first time while I was in an abusive relationship and it still really resonates with me. most people luckily do not experience that so I'm a bit of an outlier here :')

2. I Heart Huckabees (2004)

I have no deeper reason for loving IHH I just find it delightful. it's weird, it's confusing, its kinda gross, it's shocking and you don't start understanding it unless you think about it really hard for a while. it's essentially a beginner's guide to different schools and concepts in philosophy, which I'm a big ol sucker for. lovely message that I believe is handled better than a lot of movies who go for the existentialism thing. not a fan of the director, but this movie is pretty enjoyable and leaves you with a lot to think about (if you're into that). LOVE the score.

3. Spun (2002)

INITIAL WARNING THIS MOVIE IS DISGUSTING. and I love it. it's so fun and experimental especially with the editing and cinematography, the pacing is insane, not to the mention the animation, the color correction, the everything... has one of the most amazingly satisfying closing shots in a movie, ever. but it's definitely not for the faint of heart, if you can't sit through watching someone snort meth off a urinal stall or a close up of someone injecting themselves with a needle, this is definitely not for you. (not to mention the sex, again).

4. Marie Antoinette (2006)

yayy finally an option that most people agree is good! unless you're French. I was almost named Antoinette after my French g-g-gma (got named after my French g-g-g-gpa Raymond instead), plus rococo is a huge interest of mine so I adore this movie. it was shot on location at Versailles, the costumes are GORGEOUS, and almost everything is accurate! it has a mixed classical-modern soundtrack and aesthetic that I find very effective in getting its message across. however I do tend to like this movie more than most because I know who everyone is and what's happening already! it's based on a biography by Antonia Frasier which is sitting next to me as I type this lol.

5. Funny People (2009)

HEAR ME OUT. OKAY. mark taylor jackson was my "ohhh shit this dude's hot" moment and this movie was The Beginning for me. YES, it's an Adam Sandler movie co-starring Seth Rogen and Jonah Hill. AND YES. I FIND IT TO BE AN EFFECTIVE DRAMA. I don't like drama in film in general, I find most to be very unrealistic and unrelatable for me so I get bored easily, but I do think this weirdly works? I love how it's kind of an introspective look at Adam Sandler's career, with liberties taken, and the characters seem to actually have some chemistry and realism to them, even in the sillier moments. jason schwartzman is super cute. need I say more.

6. S1m0ne (2002)

ok, admittedly jason isn't in this one too much. and yet it's still worth mentioning because it's an insanely underrated and likeable movie! if anything al pacino is hot, and the entire premise is so unsettling and dystopian in an ACTUALLY WELL HANDLED sci-fi manner (good sci-fi concepts tend not to be "what ifs" but allegories for things that are actually happening already). S1m0ne is a criticism of hollywood, celebrity culture, and mass media, and it's genuinely just so creative to me. another contender for the best ending shot in cinema. ALSO, very pretty cinematography and a very fun early 2000s feel to it. the writer/director also wrote the Truman Show iirc!

7. Bored to Death

saving TV for last. let me tell you one thing! if you're looking for jason schwartzman at his best, you need to watch this show. it is so funny, so entertaining, and best of all, every character in it is so terrible and fucked up and it's wonderful. it's crazy, but grounded in reality, which makes it even crazier. jason schwartzman plays a hopeless romantic author who's boredom and disappointing love life lead him to becoming an "unlicensed private detective" who accepts jobs through craigslist. also there are zach galifianakis and ted danson, who play the two other main characters. the entire premise of the show is these three guys getting high and solving mysteries together and it's phenomenal. there's an actual episode where jason runs down the streets of brooklyn in full leather bdsm gear. there's an episode about furry sex. It's so weird and perverted and SUCH a good comedy noir(?) I can't not recommend it, despite having the worst fucking ending out of anything ever cause it got canceled.

tldr: I like bad movies

there are a ton more I could go ok about but these are the ones I personally enjoy the most. good luck

Tag 9 People You Want to Know Better

Very kind of you @missy-hissy ! I think it's one of my first times in a tag like this. As someone who has never been to a 15th birthday party before, I feel lucky to be able to participate in this xD

Last Song: Not definitely the last song I listened to, but I've been frequently listening to Beyoncé's new album. It has a great beat, and I broke my record by running 5 kilometers in 23 minutes while listening to it. It's my go-to workout song from now on.  Apart from that, the soundtrack of The Sims 1 and 2 is constantly on my daily playlist.

Last Show:  I haven't finished watching it yet, but I'm definitely a fan of Marie Forleo. She has a fascinating program on YouTube, and she herself is a fascinating woman, with captivating guests. The last show I watched was this one with Seth Godin

Currently Watching: Young Sheldon. We finished watching all six seasons yesterday, my girlfriend and I. I laughed a lot, and I loved that the sixth season gave more prominence to the other members of Sheldon's family. They are as fascinating as Sheldon himself, and I can see a bit of myself in each of them. Even in Sheldon himself. Haha ( I love his grandma too! That woman is the part of me that would break any rule simply because she can and because she wants to.)

Currently Reading: The last book I read (although it's been a while since I read) was this incredible book by Marie Forleo: Everything is Figureoutable. However, a book that changed my life and the way I perceive God/Religion and connected me to real-life experiences was "Conversations with God." These authors not only inspire me daily, but here's a little-known fact: I'm also a writer, and it was through this connection that I published my book “Tomando um chá com o universo / Having Tea with the Universe - The path from non-religion to living the life of your dreams and finding happiness" In it, I share the process I underwent to rid myself of "information overload" and find a path where I no longer let myself be guided solely by the pursuit of purpose, but instead embrace the fascinating art of being alive and present each day. In other words, finding meaning and joy in all things, rather than being consumed by the constant search for "purpose," which is often more of an ideal than a reality.

A book that I recommend to all artists who are reading this: "The War of Art." Once you read this book, your creative process will never be the same. If you can't find it, any other book by Steven Pressfield should be on your reading list as soon as possible! It offers valuable insights and strategies to overcome creative blocks and resistance.

Current Obsession:  My current obsession has been finding ways to make The Sims 3 even more fascinating! I've been doing this for the past three years, mostly through visual enhancements. However, this year I started delving into tuning mods and XML, and it's fascinating how many behaviors and mechanics can be improved just by tweaking a few lines! I'm definitely enabling a series of autonomous behaviors and seeking ways to make them smarter and more methodical. My ideal for The Sims 3 is not to have full control over everything but rather to be an observer who influences certain moments in my Sims' lives. To achieve that, I need to ensure that they can do EVERYTHING possible on their own to explore their lives to the fullest. I want to guarantee surprises and unpredictability, with my presence there only to support and occasionally influence them. Apart from that, I'm also fascinated by Life By You and how I can migrate all these enhancements to it when it's released.

why did you pick up writing? i think i wanted to engage with the rp culture here, i've always struggled to write on my own, and the nature of it being like a back and forth thing just made it all much easier for me. i think since i draw for a living and had planned to since i was little writing fills that creative no strings attached vibes to my life i enjoyed.

do you have any writing routines? hmmm not really? i just hang out on the dash and let my brain rot until a reply hits me and i just write, sometimes i put the character's music or even a song i decided to assign to said thread. i think also that i love bringing up whatever i might end up writing with my writing partners.

what's your favorite part about writing? oh talking to people about it, it's my favorite thing, plotting and getting excited, also i love exploring the way characters end up in situations but what gets me is getting to know other people through what we write, making friends...i've met so many new people through this so like yeah!! also also getting to make characters my own.

one. i think i like how i adapt my writing style to the character i write, as much as i can. you can kinda see how that gets better the more i write one character. you can notice it even more when it comes to the fact that i write characters that are on completely different contexts. two. i like how my brain comes up with certain phrases that just really hit? when it comes from their head specifically...so i guess compelling inner monologue, i tend to write more inner monologue than anything else really ksdjhfksjdhf three. i like how i do not care about like breaking rules and stuff, that if i feel like repeating a phrase or like breaking things down differently. not using certain punctation and i don't know how much of that is like my writing vs. the fact that english is a second language to me and i need to learn some more ? but i like how it translates and how i use what i have at my disposal...

So I know they're not characters you've talked about much here, but I love your content and I don't know many IkeRev blogs (or Ikemen ones in general tbh - any recs?) so I figured I'd ask your thoughts. I've been thinking a lot about ships between the armies, and despite how much I ADORE the idea of a young Edgar/Luka, I'm wondering if Edgar/Seth would actually work. Like they have the most secrets, so they could probably empathize with each other more than any other characters could.

Ahhhh I'm so glad you enjoy my content! And yes, I have a lot of Ikerev blogs to recommend! Sadly, most of the blogs listed below are barely active, but I always have a blast going through their archive.

@edgarbright is one of the first people I followed, and her "History of Cradle" post is possibly one of the best things that's ever happened to this fandom. Her thoughts and commentary on the game is always worth listening to!

@kashimalin-fanfiction, @advernia, @serenity-writes, @oswaldsirius, and @toloveawarlord are all people who have written my absolute favorite Ikerev fics!

@alloveroliver is also a fanfic writer, except most of their fics are 18+, so minors should tread with caution! One of the best smut writers I've ever seen, and their fic "The Love Accords" is actually the only Jonah/Sirius fic I've ever seen in the Ikerev English fandom (it's the only comfort for my sad Jonah/Sirius heart).

@yuumira and @nan-chi are literally some of the best artists ever. My eyes are blessed every time I see their art

@littlelady-blackwell reblogs a lot of really good Ikerev content! Whenever I want to see some high-quality Ikerev posts, I always like to take a scroll through her blog!

@citizensofcradle makes incorrect quotes for the Ikerev characters, and their posts always makes me laugh!

@pianoperson and @incorrectikemenrevolution are both Jonah stan blogs, and I scream and cry and die of happiness whenever I see the Jonah love in their blogs _(:3」∠)_

There's so, so much other blogs that produce excellent content that I haven't listed, but these are the ones that came to mind the quickest!

And as for Edgar x Seth: tbh I've never really given it much thought until you brought it up! I can definitely see the potential in there, because they're so similar that they're probably the only ones who can really see through each other. I can’t really remember when they interacted tho, but the interaction will definitely be interesting to see!

Now that this got brought up again far later than it should have been, it got me thinking. The most Peter & Company media that got Streisand Effected back on the web was that short book-exclusive Peter and Seth prequel story since it pushed Jon to add it into his archive. That P&C pre-reboot barely even passes this saying (outside of getting added to the Peter & Company TvTropes page) as only a few people outside of this blog even know or cared about it enough to spark a conversation. I’m serious, man. The only ways anyone would’ve known about it before someone decided to leak it for mainly public archiving purposes was if you decided to check the P&C website through the Wayback Machine before 2005, if you are or were in the Peterverse server, or if you subscribed to Jon’s Patreon where he did some short-lived private posts and talks around the old version à la Dreamkeepers' Art-Ifact series on their Patreon.

We all already know why pre-reboot P&C isn’t going to get the same treatment the Peter and Seth story got. It’s too embarrassing and pointless to the author no matter how much a hypothetical P&C super fan out there demands for it. While I’ve read it enough times to know that it isn’t as pointless and bad as Jon made it out to be, I’m not really hurting for this to be a topic or riff anymore. It’s only something worth reading for yourself outside of the blog in your personal spare time.

While I find that reply from Master poor and tonally deaf, I guess he only brought this up recently after working enough thoughts of his own around the discussion to talk about it again in hopes of you providing a reasonable response to him. Well, at least a response that wasn’t a rhetorical sounding question and an “I don’t care” statement. Honestly, pretty curt there.

Huh? I had no idea there was another prequel story besides “When Peter met Seth”.

As for Master’s post, he did not make a single point worth discussing. He wanted to bring it back to fucking P&C pre-reboot again when I am 100% done discussing it permanently and temporarily. Maybe I would’ve given him more of a response if he also didn’t also put out a response towards my old post defending Chelsea that was full of incoherent ramblings, stuff me and you have already said over and over, personal attacks and beating of the dead horse of drama that was half as long as my Gene Catlow review. That dude needs to work on how he provides feedback, and he is now blocked for the time being, because dude has bad attitude and he talks like he is always trying to start a fight. And some of my other readers have said they’re very put off by his posts.

Anthony’s Stupid Daily Blog (380): Sat 1st Apr 2023

This little attention-seeking sack of shit is Anthony. He’s 8 years old (and worryingly his hairline is already thinning) and what he wants more than anything is to go to WrestleMania one day. Today, April 1st 2023 in Los Angeles, California…Anthony gets his wish. WrestleMania: let’s fucking rock!

Early this morning Dad and I decided to shill out for another hotel that was closer to SoFi stadium because while the original plan was for him to kill time and wander around the local area while I went to Mania, there’s fuck all to do around SoFi Stadium. So now we’ve booked two nights at the Holiday Inn that’s apparently a fifteen minute bus ride from the stadium so now I can go to the wrestling while Dad chills in the hotel room. On the bus ride down from our original hotel to our new one a homeless guy got on who was shivering, covered in a bedsheet and carrying a half filled bottle of water like it was a baby. He walked right past the bus driver without paying and the driver in a moment of excellent comedic timing shouted down to him “You leave your pass in your other sheet?”. It must be fucking unbearable being a bus driver in this city. There are so many mental cases that eventually people who work on public transport must just let them in without saying anything or else the buses would never move. All those years that I was getting the bus from my house to the cafe why didn’t I just pretend to be a mentally ill tramp? The money I could have saved probably would have paid for this whole trip! After doing a dummy run to the stadium and back I set off for the real thing. I got the bus play but I had to get off   early and walk there because the bus was barely moving due to the traffic and of course having to stop at every fucking intersection. I could never live in America. The constant minute long waits at the  pedestrian crossings would drive me insane. I got to the stadium in good time and while I’ve been having nonstop anxiety dreams that something was going to go wrong that meant I wouldn’t be admitted the lady scanned my ticket and ushered me straight in. I climbed the stairs all the way to the top of the stadium and took in the scope of a venue filled to capacity with the WrestleMania sign and stage at the centre of it. At this moment the dream became a reality and I realized I had made it to WrestleMania. I wasn’t in my seat long before the show got underway. The whole thing went by very quickly and I didn’t get uncomfortable or anxious to get home at all. I was happy that Austin Theory beat John Cena, the showcase four way tag match was much more entertaining than it had any right to be (though I could have done without seeing Otis’ sweaty taint). The Seth Rollins / Logan Paul match was really entertaining. I love Seth to bits but I think his current gimmick is…..what IS his current gimmick. I know he dances and the crowd do his cool chant but it just feels shapeless. Rollins seems over on the surface but I think it’s the song that the crowd likes not him. There was a cool spot where Seth switched Paul’s mascot on top of him who Paul crashed on top of through the announce table. Dominik vs Rey was really good especially Dom arriving in handcuffs in a police car. Dominik Mysterio is one of the most over heels in the company which is surprising since before this prison storyline he was Blandy Bland. It just goes to show that it only needs to be that one little tweak that can turn you from a jobber to someone with star quality. Rhea Ripley vs Charlotte was awesome. I’m not a big Charlotte fan mainly because whether she wins or loses title matches is irrelevant because Vince/HHH is just going to hand her another one in a month or two so I was happy Rhea won. I left before the main event of Kevin / Sami vs Uso’s was over because I wanted to beat the traffic getting out but when I got back to the hotel I checked the results and saw that Kevin and Sami won the tag titles which made me very happy. I’m struggling to express just how much this meant to me. I’ve been a fan of wrestling since I was eight years old, it’s been an obsession of mine for nearly three decades now and has gotten me through some low points in my life. I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea and that’s fine, we all have stuff that we think is lame but if you’ve followed wrestling for ages and witness a truly great great moment it makes sitting through all the lame / boring / disgusting aspects of this art form seem so worth it. Since watching my first ever WrestleMania which would have been X8 and seeing the way the wrestlers could command and manipulate a stadium full of fans I’ve wanted to be a part of it. I tried to convince Billy and Bannan to save up for the trip but I don’t think they ever really fancied it and a few years ago Halilaj and I started making plans to go but then both of us ran into money troubles which meant we couldn’t afford it and then in 2019 I came close to commuting to it but didn’t which turned out to be a blessing in disguise since Covid came along the next year and I would have lost out on a lot of money. This year however something inside me decided that I couldn’t wait any longer and WrestleMania 39 would be the one I would attend. It’s been an agonising wait since I booked it back in October but I couldn’t let another Mania escape my grasp. I’m so happy that I can finally cross this off my list and it will no longer be a hang up of mine, constantly at the back of my mind pestering me. I know I spend most of this blog complaining but it’s no exaggeration to say that today has been one of the greatest days of my life. And fuck me I completely forgot there’s another one tomorrow!

Hello! Hi! How are you? Nice to see you, listen to you, talk, chat with you, whatever this is gonna look like. For those of you who are new here, welcome to my blog! This is An Hour with David. For those of you who are returning, good to see you back! Today, I’m going to be talking with you for a little bit about language and the role that it plays in our world, but, more specifically, the role that it plays in fiction and characters.

Now, I’ve gotta confess; I’ve been pretty stumped about this for the past week. I haven’t been sure what to talk about, so I decided to do the natural thing and just fall asleep to my favorite comfort show instead. My favorite comfort show is Family Guy. I’ve watched the first three-to-five seasons of Family Guy more than, I think, any other person on the planet. It may sound odd, but it’s just very … soothing and relaxing to me. It’s something I jump to whenever I need simple, quick entertainment that’s gonna calm me down. As I was laying down in bed watching this, I started to notice something in an interaction between two of the characters that I think ties really neatly into this topic of language that we’re talking about and I’m gonna let you listen to it here for a little bit:

LOIS GRIFFIN: Look at this food! It’s gross and unhealthy. It’s exactly the stuff I’m trying to get you not to eat! PETER GRIFFIN: Yeah, but people like this food! It makes them happy. You could eat sprouts and vegan crap your whole life and still get devoured by gremlins and none of it matters. LG: So, you’re saying you shouldn’t take care of yourself because you might get devoured by gremlins? PG: Get a clue, Mamma. LG: Think of what you’re doing to your body, Peter! PG: Oh, there we go. You think I’m overweight. LG: I know you’re overweight! (Robertson 2017)

So, without me even showing those characters to you onscreen, you get a sense of who they are and what they’re about because of the way that the voice actor and actress are putting character into the language of these words: Lois has this very nasally, scolding tone to her voice which makes sense because, throughout the show, she’s a wife and mother who’s constantly looking at what Peter does with disdain and disgust and confusion … as mothers sometimes do. Peter, on the other hand, is a little more complicated; Peter is, as the creator of Family Guy Seth MacFarlane described it, based on a security guard he knew in college that used to talk like that. Peter’s language is being influenced by another individual that the creator actually met throughout his life; but, in addition to that, he has this very dimwitted, nonsensical, simplistic way of looking at things. He’s referencing Gremlins when his wife is trying to talk to him about eating healthy; from that, you can deduce that Peter has this strong affiliation with pop culture and nonsensical arguments. He says things that don’t really make sense and you’re able to get all of that here through the way that these characters’ language is being dictated.

So, what if I play this on another level? What if I play for you a language that doesn’t exist in the real world … but exists in fantasy? Something like this for instance: [PARSELTONGUE SOUNDS] (Columbus 2002) Now … does that sound like something that the Care Bears or the Teletubbies would sing? It’s not. It has this hissing quality; this sinister venom dripping off of the language because in the universe that this is set in, if you know you know, it’s representing a darkness. It’s not a good ability to have this language or be able to speak it. The serpents in this world are closely tied to biblical assertions of serpents, which is that they’re very dangerous and destructive and deceptive. And that’s the vibe that you get when you hear actors enunciate this language like that. What if I, then, play you like something like this instead? [ELVISH LANGUAGE SOUNDS] (Joddle 2017) Now, again … if you know, you know. This language is much more enunciated and elegant; it almost flows off the tongue. It was based off of Finnish and Welsh. This language of course being J.R.R. Tolkien’s Elvish from Lord of the Rings. It’s spoken by elves; figures that have this stoic, authoritative, demanding, emotionless appearance throughout the story. And you get that vibe throughout the language.

So, I’m going a little bit over, but I want to do one last exercise to get the point across. This is a passage from one of the most famous Batman stories of all time (I know, I know. Stay with me here). This is a passage from The Dark Knight Returns that a character makes as they’re making a speech to a group of individuals. I’m going to read this three different ways: in my normal voice, in my impression of how The Joker would read it, and in my impression of how Batman would read it. I want you to listen to it and try to pick up the subtleties to it. Obviously, I’m not a voice actor. So, this may end up coming out really bad, but I’m going to give it a try here and I want you to tell me what you think of how the way I use language ties into your interpretation of the text: This loud, clumsy, stupid thing. This is the weapon of the enemy! We do not need it. We will not use it! Our weapons are quiet, precise. In time, I will teach them to you. Tonight, you will rely on your fists and your brains. Tonight, we are the law! Tonight, I am the law! Let’s ride! (Miller 1986)

Briana and I went to Powell's on the first day of our trip. Being that Fairy Tale was just published September 6th, 2022 and it's by the Stephen King meant it was on ever end cap and right in front of our faces. With quite a bold rich blue color and a contrasting gold orange, it was easy for it to catch my attention. That day I could barely comprehend what the summary was, I didn't even really flip through the pages, I just knew I was intrigued. That day I did buy 3 other books, but couldn't keep my mind off Fairy Tale.

October 16th, 2022

Even though I tried to read my other books, I ended up buying the audiobook and started to listen. Seth Numrich's narration seriously blew me away.

It has felt really special to start something that feels truly like mine. A lot of what I consume are recs, from friends and family and the general internet. I always love it, but it's been thrilling to not have heard a single thing about this story and to truly have no idea where it would end up.

I just completed Fairy Tale and I had a little cry and told a few people I finished it and decided to write this. I have a hardcover print version on the way. I'm excited to reread my favorite bits and look at the illustrations. I truly loved the world and characters that were created. Listening to a 24 hour audiobook sounded like a big task, especially since I'm not great at or consistent with reading at all, but somehow, Charlie's story swept me up and transported me. I can see how some may critique it for being long or slow or typical for a fairy tale, but that's what I found so charming about it. It was simple but complicated, it conveyed one's journey with themselves and others so well. To me it was full of twists and turns and was an ultimate escape. I also really feel like Fairy Tale connected me to so many things I love - stories that King intentionally referenced and not.

Somehow after the fact, I'm thinking about the bravery and courage of Harry Potter fighting the snake-like Voldemort, Charlie versus the Flight Killer. Radar had a Winn-Dixie feeling to her (or really name any important hound in film). A dog that touched the hearts of many. The Empisarians/the gray people's melted deformed features kind of reminded me of the horrors of Coraline. I expected King would get even darker or scarier but that's super okay it didn't go there. Even simply his name being Charlie, reminded me of Charlie in the Chocolate Factory- it's truly a name I've loved all my life. Giants and mermaids, animals that were too large and a cranky old man with secrets. Another world that you travel into thru a fairly normal appearance on the Earth side reminded me of Narnia.

Fairy Tale by Stephen King connected me back to the fantasy and wonder I've been needing again and for that, I say thank you and I highly recommend my new favorite book to anyone who is ready for an adventure of good and evil.

This girl is feeling super sappy and mourning the end of Fairy Tale but also so happy that I was able to experience it and happy that I get to keep experiencing it in the future.

Shipping in Housamo

Hi, hello. You probably know me as the one who writes a lot of the headcanons you read on this blog. Which is true and we are gonna talk about something along those lines- We're gonna be talking about ships and dynamics with the cast of Tokyo Afterschool Summoners- Hey wait where ya going!? Come back! I know this isn't exactly what everyone signed up to see, but I think that there is something worth talking about because in our game of 200+ characters ships are bound to happen and how we view those ships because it sort of gives us an idea on how these characters interact. Also just because I wanted to talk about it cuz I've been kind of on a shipping spree as it were.   Now obviously we aren't going to cover every last possible ship in this game because there is in fact a lot of them, but I will try to cast a net over a lot of pairings just to make sure to have as broad of a reach as possible. And I believe the best way to go about it is to organize it is by my own personal least-shipped pair to my most-shipped pair, with two in between categories for light and moderate. Though there is one outlier I feel I should mention

MC Ships- Literally whoever. This portion of the post can be filled with quite literally whatever you want. If you want to ship the main character with your favorites, polyamory, or just something platonic is totally fine. This post is probably going to say more about me than it will about you. Basically these are just my opinions and you're more than free to agree or disagree, nor will they  be in any significant order since that would take too long to sort through.

Least Ship- These are the ones that I don't find very appealing and I feel I have to explain the most. So to start... Yasuyori and Tanetomo- So we're starting this off... on an interesting note. Now on a surface level this probably seems like a weird point to start on. We see the two often exchanging romantic banter, they were introduced together and both are members of the Hakkenshi so they have some shared history. Well if you dig a little deeper and keep reading more and more of their dynamic it doesn't take long to realize this relationship is incredibly toxic. Tanetomo is very manipulative and dishonest a lot of the time and he constantly undermines Yasuyori by belittling his more earnest attempts at affection. I can't say Yasuyori wouldn't be totally in the right mostly because he'd probably excuse all that because he'd be convinced they're in love and that's just what couples do. Also, like with the few others that will populate this part of this segment I just think they have better pairings with other characters that have the potential to tell more interesting stories or are just cuter dynamics.

Perun and Shinya- This is chapter 13 spoilers, and there isn't a lot of context for it and I don't think anyone does. Nor won't after digging for chapter 13 information. But it's very very "not good". To avoid spoilers I'm not gonna divulge much since this is still fresh, but just given recent developments it's... a lot. No one's really talked about the possibility and I pray it never comes up again.

Literally Hogen and anyone- Hogen, despite being quite attractive and... "flirtatious", I don't see him being very committed to one person. Especially cuz he hits on anything and everything with a pulse. So him trying to get closer to someone feels a bit odd to me.

Horus and Seth- Haha, gross~

Takemaru and Suzuka- Bitter exes or something along those lines. While Takemaru wants to try and be friendly it's very clear Suzuka is having none of that. Just more of a dynamic that comes from it's old legend.

Suzuka and Gunzo- I mean they're both kinda just teens... living in the moment? I'm only bringing this up because of the date quest and Akashi memes. I don't see it especially since they don't have any sort of prior interactions. Nor do either have any indication they'd be into each other if they did meet. It's just a very bizarre detail that has yet to get any sort of follow up.

Benten and Kuniyoshi- Benten would try to murder Kuniyoshi, and not in a funny way.

Hati and Nyarlahotep- They look and sound like a couple on the surface, but you have to remember Nyarl did egg Hati on to perform a kidnapping. Sure they accepted him into the guild but Nyarl being too chaotic could cause Hati more trouble than it's worth.

Shiro and Kengo- Last one I'm gonna talk about during this portion because I feel this sort of serves as a nice bridging point between this segment and the next one because for this one it kinda feels like the pieces are there, but there isn't enough follow up to push them into that tier of interest for me. But more importantly what drags it down for me is that Shiro doesn't really respect or trust Kengo much. Kengo deserves it once in a while, like using guild money to buy training equipment kinda goofs, but not all the time. And while Kengo actively avoids Shiro I can't blame him because if your friend always yelled at you for everything chances are you'd wanna avoid that friend out of concern for conflict. The two can mature or at least be mature, but they're never more willing to compromise with each other. At least not enough to become boyfriends I think.

Somewhat Ships: This portion centers more on light hearted ships. These aren't ones to take uber seriously but bring a smile to my face thinking about them, or ships I would like to see explored a bit more in depth.  

Snow and Melusine- One that should be in the previous tier but it just kinda makes me laugh to imagine these two at each other one moment only to be having a passionate exchange the next.

Kurogane and Amatsumara- I don't begrudge this one, but Amatsumara is the one who raised Kurogane and watches out for the Crafters as a whole.

Kurogane and Takemaru- Kind of always saw them as more younger brother, older brother dynamic since Kurogane in Setsubun was very easy to excite and just wanted to talk to Takemaru. But this is another one that I do understand in some respects because they aren't officially related so those feelings could blossom into something more.

Shinya and Temujin- Better than the other Shinya one I brought up, but still not that much better since Temujin isn't all that great of a guy a lot of the time either. But at the very least he's very courteous with Shinya, patient and we've seen him pull Shinya out of a tight spot. And Shinya is just very accepting of people so it's not like he would be the type to turn down kind gestures so suddenly. But the main story is... a complicated case so I don't feel confident putting them any higher.

Gyumao and Shennong- They have some fun banter in Sunrise New Years aka Moo Years. Gyumao goes out of his way to help Shennong feel included with the pump from the Crafters. And they're two hunky bulls.

Yasuyori and Gunzo- Weird take, but I think this could work and the entire premise would be the fact that the relationship is built on a misunderstanding. Both are pretty hapless when it comes to love and are prone to falling for someone at the simplest indignation of romance, so maybe like Yasuyori and Gunzo just met up one day on accident and both think they intended it to be a date and just... start dating from there? Both are athletes so they could reasonably keep up with the other in terms of hobbies and the two wouldn't have to stretch that much to have conversations. But I do also think these two have much better partners.

Furufumi and Ebisu- I don't have the full context for them being a couple, but I like seeing them together for some reason. They're just adorable boyfriends.

Ziz and Babalon- Hot MILFS in your area? Find them by clicking here! In all seriousness though they do just give off a bit of the same energy and I feel like that is a catalyst for them to become wives and just open an orphanage or something.

Ziz and Shennong- They're few exchanges kind of imply they might have a thing for each other and they're both staff at the same school. I'm down for it- they'd make great parents.

Hombre Tigre and Tezcatlipoca- This one is kind of tragic to me since it's clear Hombre deeply cares for Tezcatlipoca, he knows that it isn't enough to solve Tez's loneliness. And Tez has gone so far off the deep end that I don't even know if he would ever be aware of Hombre's feelings. Still in a scenario where these two could be together it could work because the only people who'd need to understand them is each other.

Jinn and Triton- Just... okay. They're opposites attract and it wouldn't be that atrocious to find out if they have a thing for each other. They both have the same goal in mind and dress incredibly the same. Opposites attract? It's just the Red/Blue dynamic I couldn't really explain it more beyond that.

Kengo and Tetsuya- If these two ever reconnected then maybe I could see these two getting into this sort of wacky fight for control kind of pairing. But Tetsuya is very petty and wouldn't accept Kengo as his boyfriend right away so it would take some time for the two to find any sort of common ground.

Nomad and Breke- I need to see more of these two in order to get a good idea of where they're coming from, but it's not the worst one for either of them.

Macan and Nomad- I'm not turning heads with this one. Macan being overly affectionate to Nomad gets on Nomad's nerves. But in some instances I can see Nomad growing to like and even miss the antics of Macan. I'm in a pretty big internal debate with myself at the time of writing this cuz on one hand I did give grief to Kengo and Shiro, but on the other Nomad keeps swinging around and actively helps pacify Nomad from time to time... so it's a conundrum.

Chernobog and Horkeukamui- The slowest enemies to lovers fic you'd ever read. It would take a long time since I mostly see Horkeu being very territorial with the player while Chernobog just wants to broaden his horizons and would be the one making the most active pushes in the dynamic.

Horkeukamui and Nomad- Um, there's a whole thread about this one. If these two had like any interactions I guess they could.

Gunzo and Ashigara- They get along well enough that the two falling for each other doesn't seem that out of left field. But these two definitely would have a hard time getting it across to the other though...

Seth and Tadatomo- The fanart is cute and I think it would probably melt a few friends brains if they did have interactions.

Shino and Gyobu- Two dad like characters that watch after the Outlaws. I'm okay with this.

Wakan Tanka and Ashigara- Wakan and Ashigara would be there for each other in a goofy way.

Bael and Astaroth- From what I've seen I need more to give the dynamic a fair shake.

Actively Ship: Okay this is the portion where a lot of the meat is gonna be. This are pairings that I enjoy and definitely see.

Zabaniyya and Arsalan- This one's a pretty good pairing actually. You have Zabaniyya who looks up to Arsalan and you have Arsalan who just wants Zabaniyya to do decide and make choices for himself. It's very clear the two hold consideration for each other. Zabaniyya with more courage could confess to Arsalan that he's the only one he wants to follow and Arsalan reciprocating having kept his feelings hidden as to not influence Zabaniyya's decisions. I think Arsalan would always try and bring out the best in Zabaniyya.

Snow, Barguest, and Gyumao- These 3 are all dads that raise their children right and well. Furthermore they all get along surprisingly well despite their status or circumstances and I thought that it was just so nice how easily they all came together. They're supportive, understanding and just all really cute together.

Kuniyoshi and Licht- These two are cute together and are indeed very supportive of each other. Kuniyoshi supports Licht in pursuing his art while Licht definitely values Kuniyoshi for encouraging him.

Shinya and Kalki- On the surface it might seem problematic since Kalki is technically under the influence of Shinya's power. But in actuality he is under his influence by choice since Taromaiti has offered to remove that power because Kalki is able to have a new lease on life because of Shinya. It's just really cute to watch Kalki try and earn Shinya's affections more legitimately like trying to get Shinya the perfect christmas present. It's clear that regardless Shinya has a positive effect on Kalki.

Kalki and Hati- This one's just cute because of the few interactions they have early on. It's clear they're all friends in that clique of Hati, Taromaiti, Kalki and Shinya and there are moments Hati does encourage Kalki to be more outwardly expressive for love and just general affection.

Daisuke and Wakan Tanka- These two being a senior power couple just feels right. Wakan Tanka being so accepting and approachable it calms a lot of Daisuke's nerves. The two also going to school together helps with their compatibility since the two can keep up with each other in terms of sports.

Daisuke and Bathym- Bathym is forever a tease but also super supportive and giving as a boyfriend. So pairing him with the ever shy Daisuke and rowdy Taurus Mask is a really good match. Bathym would just know how to appeal to both sides of Daisuke. Meanwhile Bathym gets someone who gives him undivided attention and enthusiasm for battling.

Kurogane and Oz- Why not let the space lovers see space together? It's clear these two get along well enough so please let them hold hands. Let them stargaze together and let them talk about all their wildest dreams while they build a rocket. Let Kurogane encourage Oz and give him the courage to keep trying to see space.

Ryota and Toji- This one seems random but given the fact a lot of events after Toji joins the Summoners it's Ryota making the biggest pushes to help Toji feel included. And Toji is someone who always seems rather receptive to Ryota's kindness so I definitely think Toji would be the one to fall in love at first and Ryota developing those feelings a little later on once he catches on to why. Furthermore Ryota would just always make sure Toji is taking care of himself and Toji would remain by Ryota's side which is... something Ryota just really wants in a partner.

Yule and Krampus- Santa babies. To be more specific Krampus finally finding someone who's at least willing to get to know him better probably speaks leaps and bounds to him so these two being boyfriends is definitely within reason. Krampus getting bashful with Yule's simple request to hold his hand also sounds like very heartwarming imagery.

Oniwaka and Cu sith- First time I'm gonna reference the AR cards but not the last, Oniwaka and Cu would just go well together just watching this soft doggo break through Oniwaka's rougher exterior just by being himself is very wholesome as we see on the AR.

Leib and Cu Sith- Realistically most of Leib's ships do kind of boil down to this, but I think this is the best and most prominent pair since they feature on at least two AR cards. The two essentially just watch each other's backs with Leib keeping Cu Sith in line and Cu making sure Leib does basic things like having something good to eat or a fresh pair of clothes in the morning. The big reason being that the two do care for each other even if at times their work relationship can get in the way.

Takemaru and Motosumi- I think these two have very big parent vibes. Takemaru is the dad that works and provides his loved ones with what they need while Motosumi works to keep his loved ones safe and secure. They just fit together so well.

Ganglie and Seth, or Goemon and Seth, or all 3- Seth likes em big. Seth likes em chunky.

Tetsuya and Tomte- Similar reasons to Oniwaka and Cu.

Ibaraki and Shuten- Bros before hoes and Shuten seems like he'd be willing if Ibaraki ever came forward and asked him out as himself.

Shuten and Kyuma- Shuten being the older supportive partner Kyuma needs to push himself forward to greatness.

Tanetomo and Ellie- This one's definitely the most wild one I've suggested, but to put plainly I think Ellie having a very straightforward nature is something that Tanetomo would have to learn to deal with and not have to overthink since Ellie won't react in a way he probably would expect. Furthermore Ellie just by merit of being herself will cause Tanetomo to really think about what his real feelings are and why he does the things he's been doing up til this point. Ellie because... she thinks he's cute. Even if not the two would at least go out of their way to look fabulous together and that's at least worth something in my book.

GOAT Ships- We're here. The ships that I absolutely treasure and deserve their own spot on the list. The ones I will defend vehemently with my life- uh I mean these are the ones I feel get pushed the most or are the ones that have the best context behind them.

Gabriel and Maria- C'mon this is everyone's ship. Gabriel and Maria are the iconic girlfriends we need more of in our lives and they're holding hands in their AR together-! These two were written to be a couple and it's just very clear to me with how affectionate and sweet they are together.

Ashigara and Yasuyori- On Ashigara's side he's someone who doesn't want to lose his friends so he won't hesitate to go out and find them. While on the other side Yasuyori is someone who is willing to give himself up for the sake of his friends. Both are incredibly stubborn in their ways of life and practice and you damn well know these two should already be dating. Ashigara is one of the few characters that can actively match Yasuyori in strength in a 1 on 1 fight, so whenever Yasuyori is off being stubborn you can guarantee Ashigara is only a few steps behind. The two are what the other needed in a weird way- they're both people who go out of their way for each other and are people who care for each other even if it's not always obvious.

Wakan Tanka and Gunzo- We're here. After so many ships we're finally here. The one ship I can say with confidence that I think should be end game. Honestly I could write a whole essay discussing why I think these two ending up as lovers should be something we should all do, but it would take way too long and I don't think I have to if you've read this far into the list. But for the sake of brevity- They're opposites who attract who are also astonishingly similar, they're really cute together in a lot of their art, and they fit thematically with one another. If this is something that you'd want to hear me talk about I'd love to know because this is probably my favorite ship after all my years with the game.

and that finally, FINALLY wraps up this whole list. if there were any ships I missed I'm sorry, i didn't mean it as an offense to you personally it's just that this list is really long as it is and for a lot of them I had a hard time saying more than one sentence.

You didn’t want to come to this party in the first place. You would have been just fine staying at home, alone on this Friday night, but the pogues thought you needed a night out in public. You were usually the quiet one of the group, stayed to yourself and wasn’t as confident and outgoing as the others. They respected that, usually, but tonight wasn’t one of those nights. 

“You’ve stayed in all week! It’s summer break and we deserve to go to a party.” JJ argues.

“You deserve a crazy night every once and a while.” He says, poking your side, which you immediately swat his hand away. 

“Your definition of a crazy night is much different from mine.”

“Sounds like a great deal, I’m ready to end the night early, so lets leave now.” You smile. 

JJ rolls his eyes, “come on, pretty girl, time to party like the kooks.” He grabs your hand and pulls you into the house and through the crowd. He doesn’t let go of your hand as he talks to a few people on the way toward the drinks. 

Pretty girl was his nickname for you since childhood. You and the pogues practically grew up together, going through middle school and now high school together. You all were great friends, but you were closer to JJ than anyone. 

“Drink up,” He hands you a red solo cup that he just filled up from the punch bowl. 

You take a whiff of the cup and scrunch your nose up, “Oh my god, JJ what the hell is in this?” 

He shrugs, chugging his own, and wincing as the multiple alcohols burn his throat, “Just drink it.” 

You’re hesitant, but you tip the cup up, drinking the liquid. It takes everything you have not to gag on the taste. 

“Good girl.” He smirks, “now here, drink another. Have fun and don’t get into any trouble?” He hands you another cup. 

“You are not leaving me-” 

“I have to go say hey to some of the guys!” He calls back, already disappearing into the crowd. 

Damn it JJ. You groan. He left you standing alone in this large kitchen. You glance down at the cup in your hands before taking a few sips, a buzz coming along. Maybe this would help you to loosen up and be a little more confident. So, you downed that one and poured you another. 

Half an hour later and two more drinks, you’re sitting on the couch with a bunch of kooks, listening to them tell their best sex stories. 

“So, y/n.” One of the kook girls smirks, “Are you a virgin?” 

You flushed with embarrassment at the intimate question, “I mean-” 

“Oh my god,” another perked up, “You and JJ so did it!” 

“No we-” You try to defend. 

“You aren’t the only girl that’s lost her virginity to JJ Maybank.” The girl laughs, “I’m guessing that’s why you’re still friends? Couldn’t push it more than that?” 

“Me and JJ haven’t had sex.” You say. 

“Oh.” She frowns, “Well you want to have sex with him don’t you?” 

Before you could really answer, the alcohol answered for you, “yeah-” Your eyes went wide, “I mean no!” But it was too late. The girls were already giggling and the rumor was ignited. 

“hey everyone, y/n wants to fuck JJ Maybank!” The girl laughs and suddenly the room erupts in laughter. 

“As if he would even touch you!” 

The room suddenly felt very small and very hot. Everyone was pointing and laughing at you. Your breathing increased and you prayed JJ wasn’t in the room to hear this, but knew you could use him to calm you down. 

Tears stung and you jumped up from the couch and pushed your way through the laughing crowd. 

“Hey hey-” JJ grabs your arms, “What’s wrong? Why are you crying?” He’d heard the commotion and headed toward the room when he grabbed you as you were leaving. 

You pulled your arms from him and run out the door without another word. 

“What the hell did you guys say to her?!” JJ stomped to the crowd of kooks, grabbing one of the guys, “huh?! What the fuck did you say?” 

The girls laughed, “Oh JJ calm down. We were just messing with her.” 

“She just told us the truth.” The other shrugs. 

“Which was what?” He lets go of the guy. 

“She wants you to have sex with her.” The girl smirks and then all of the kooks erupt in laughter once more. 

“As if JJ Maybank would have sex with someone like her!” another girl adds. 

“Fuck all of you.” He spits with anger, “She’s fucking amazing. She’s beautiful and sexy and she’s got a lot more going for her than any of you fucking pricks. I hear another one of you make a joke about her, i’ll beat every one of your asses.” And with that he leaves the room in search of you. 

“Y/n?!” He calls out as he enters the patio. “Y/n!” He calls out again and his eyes scan the beach. He spots someone sitting near the water and heads toward them. 

“y/n?” He asks softly when he hears the sobs. 

“Go away.” You sniffle. 

“They were being assholes, as usual.” He says coming closer, “They love to get under people’s skin.” 

You wipe the tears, “Yeah and this is why I don’t come to these kind of parties.” 

He sighs and takes a seat in the sand next to you, “come on...” He gently nudges you, “You’re too pretty to be crying.” He pulls his long sleeve down his arm and uses it to wipe a tear when you look up at him. 

“Please don’t tell me you heard what was said.” 

The face he makes answers it all. “Yes but-” 

“Great!” You quickly stand, “Fucking fantastic.” 

“y/n, just wait!” He stands to follow you down the beach, grabbing your arm and turning you around to face him. His hands keep their place on both your arms and he leans in to plant a hard kiss on your lips. 

You’re taken back and your eyes are wide as you stand there still as a statue. 

He pulls away, “I’m sorry I shouldn’t..” He lets go of your arms, his eyes now wide. “I shouldn’t have done that.” 

“Then we’ll forget all about it.” You wipe your lips, “It was a pity kiss anyways.” You interpret his apology as regret, like he really didn’t want to kiss you and only felt bad for you. 

“No-damnit it wasn’t!” He groans, “I’ve wanted to do that for years.” He runs a hand over his hair, taking a deep breath, “Y/n i’ve been in love with you for years.” He drops his hands, “I’ve never known how to tell you because we’re different and I didn’t think you deserved someone like me. I’m not someone you should be with.” 

“JJ..” 

“You’re perfect.” He laughs a little, “Perfect, and not someone I deserve to be with. I don’t deserve someone as great as you. I mean you’re funny, caring. and you’re really beautiful. Like really really beautiful. and you deserve someone like.. someone who isn’t me.” 

You didn’t know if it was the alcohol still in your system, but you took the confident leap and stepped forward toward him. Your hand found his neck and you pulled him down to your lips. “I love you too, JJ.”

Told you guys I’d ramble in due time.

I absolutely adore Bravely Default 2. It came at a really bad time cos I can’t waste 70 hours on a jrpg, but well, it’s too late to be concerned about that now. And as is tradition with me obsessing over a new game / show / whatever, you’ll basically find a fullblown review disguised as ramblings right under the cut. Be aware that I’m gonna talk about EVERYTHING, so spoilers are a given. Some maybe even for the previous Bravely Default games.

Just for reference on how long this is gonna be, I made a voice recording while driving to remember all the points I wanna make, and that recording is almost 2 hours long. I did cut it down but still, this is gonna be a lot.

I’ll start off with the things that actually bugged me about the game, since there are only 3 things that really bothered me. First of, I really don’t like that you can name Seth. He has too much personality to be a self insert and player integration is not that big of a part in the game that this decision can be justified. It wouldn’t bother me that much if it didn’t leave a bad mark on the ending. First of all, we were robbed of Gloria desperately shouting for Seth, which makes the impact work less, and it’s just so prevalent that the name can’t be said because you have all the normal sound design going. If they’d just let the credits still play I wouldn’t have batted an eye, but because every other sound comes in it’s so obvious they’re just silently shouting in this scene, which makes it look silly. Like I said, this decision is more a detriment than an addition, and it’s a shame it casts a shadow on an otherwise heartfelt ending.

Speaking about lost potential, the other thing that really bothers me is the lost potential in certain plot points and character conclusions. I mainly mean Adam and Edna here. Both of them have been built up to be these formidable foes but they just, die. If it was just Adam I’d be fine with it, since you expect Edna to backstab him and be the actual big bad of the story, but I cannot fathom why they dropped Edna this HARD. If not Edna herself, I don’t understand why we don’t get more of a reaction from the Fairies and especially Adelle. I mean, Edna was her sole reason she left for her journey in the first place, then Edna dies and that’s it? No part where she grieves for a second? No concern from the others about Adelle? Mind you, I haven’t finished all the Sidequests, so maybe there actually is one in which this is addressed, but I think even just a Party Chat after Bad End 1 would have been sufficient to show how Adelle suddenly feels about the loss of Edna. It would have made Bad End 2 / The Secret Ending even more impactful, because, yeah, of course, you kinda know Adelle isn’t going to turn her back on fairy kind, but one of the reasons she doesn’t leave is because if Enda didn’t get a happy ending, then she shouldn’t either. It would have been amazing foreshadowing if she showed this sentiment before this scene happened. Other than that, it’s a shame that we know so little about Edna, or rather, how she became “bad”. I get she’s supposed to be corrupted by the Night’s Nexus, but how did it even come to this? It can’t have been a gradual thing, after all, Adelle says Edna was always good natured and then just disappeared one day. Really would have loved seeing more of that plot point.

Ok, last gripe I have, some choices in the soundtrack and sound design. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love the OST, and I will get to that, but damn, whatever Revo used for the lead instrument in Wiswald hurts my ears. It’s a really good track, but I always have to turn down my volume because these high pitched sounds physically hurt. And for sound design. Dude, the Night’s Nexus is the least threatening, nightmare fueled abomination that ever existed. I get that its growl is kinda supposed to be layered with Edna’s or sth, but it, it just sounds silly. If they went the route of just swinging between different voices or began distorting it from phase to phase, it would have been fine. But the choice they made really made an otherwise creepy design just absolutely silly.

Ok, enough jammering, on to the good stuff. Like I said, there’s going to be a lot, so I’ll try to be brief in each aspect.

Gameplay

I honestly like the new battle mechanics more than the old ones. This individual, turn based system feels way more dynamic and it’s easier to strategies in battles. Because nothing made me more angry than setting up for a heal and the enemy suddenly being faster than me and killing my healer. Now it’s easier to plan ahead a bit.

I also found myself experimenting more with the jobs. Not sure what it really is, but none of the party members leaning more towards certain types of jobs and the job leveling being way faster probably helped.

And I know some people get up in arms because the boss sometimes can be a real pain in the ass (looking at you pope dude), I still found it very interesting getting around counters or even using these counters as a benefit. As an example, I made Adelle my main physical fighter and gave her lots of counter abilities to help her profit from being countered by enemies themselves. Now, she can attack enemies, get countered, automatically evade that counter and earn a BP at the same time. Made a lot of boss fights way easier and fun to exploit.

Music

Ok, I will try my best to be really, really brief, because in my recording this part takes up almost 40 minutes. Anyways, Revo might have just become one of my absolute favorite composers ever. I don’t know what kind of magic he used, but I initially wasn’t that impressed with the OST, but every time I listened to it, I just fell in love harder and harder. Before getting into specifics, I wanna highlight the two things that made me love this OST overall. First of all, this soundtrack almost seems like a refinement of BD’s. While losing some of that fairytale vibe, it sounds even more fantasy now. And in contrast to the original, this almost sounds more balanced? Like, BD’s OST felt high energy throughout, BD2’s on the other hand manages to find a good balance between high and low energy pieces. Like, the character themes or battle themes are absolute hype, but the overworld themes are a lot calmer and easier to listen to while exploring. Second big point that makes this soundtrack amazing is that Revo is an absolute god at using emotional progression/storytelling and leitmotifs in his songs. And heck, do I love myself my leitmotifs. You’ve got some obvious ones, like the final battle theme in which all the character themes and other leitmotifs are integrated. Then you got some maybe more subtle once, just like how the overworld themes are just the main theme, just a lot calmer and using the lead instruments of the towns of the areas.

But my absolute favourites gotta be the character themes and the main theme. I love how fitting the themes for the characters are and in general, each of them is such a bop. At first I prefered Elvis’, because I sure am a sucker for jazzy vibes, but over time Adelle’s became my fav. It’s just something about the trumpets, and how the theme almost sounds a bit melancholic and bittersweet, that drew me in. And considering her story, mostly her bad end, that the bittersweet tone really fits.

Then there’s the main theme. Just like BD’s it shouts “triumphant anthem” and it definitely gives you a very familiar vibe, but I’d argue it has even better emotional progression. Heck, the first time I heard the music start up in the reveal trailer, I didn’t have to look at the screen to know this is gonna be a BD game. Also, the credit song version had me weeping at the true end. I’m someone who’s very easily affected by music (if me shouting about soundtracks on this blog wasn’t proof enough) and just hearing that ending song, getting the after credits scene, just for the second credits to start as a freaking duet. Dude, at that point I just started sobbing, I’m not gonna lie. Just this little part showed how much Revo knows how to put emotion in a song and also write it in such a way that he can elicit strong, emotional reactions from you too. 

Story

People have been complaining how the story is too boring and kinda disappointing in comparison to the last one, but I just think the games tried to accomplish different things here. Since the BD series is a celebration of old, classic jrpgs, “cliche” storytelling is a given. Though, BD did throw a lot of meta stuff in there too. BD2 in contrast just feels like a direct execution of that initial idea. It feels familiar, it feels comfy and it feels safe. Except for the little things with the endings and then overwriting the Nexus’ “save file”, BD2 doesn’t really get that meta, which is totally fine. It doesn’t try to reinvent or innovate anything, it just wants to be a fantasy story, that might be cliche, but still fun and enjoyable in its own right.

I’d also argue that the pacing is a lot better than the old game, because with BD I sometimes found myself skipping through scenes to get on with the story. Not that this game didn’t have me rushing through stuff as well, but I found it kept my intrigue way better than the original.

Characters

Next to the music, this is the part that I absolutely love the most. While, yes, they did lose a lot of potential with some characters, mostly with the villains, the main cast is just so much fun. I love these 4 dorks so, so much.

I honestly can’t stand how much people compare them to the original cast. Yes, ofc, I’ve been doing my fair share of comparisons too, but calling these four a more boring version of BD’s party physically hurts me. Because except for some initial impressions, the Heroes of Light are completely different from our beloved Warriors of Light.

While yes, Seth and Gloria give off strong Tiz and Agnes vibes at first, they both grow into such different characters that they’re not really comparable. I think this shows with Adelle and Elvis even more. I do understand how people could compare Adelle and Edea, since they’re both the feisty girl type, but I can’t understand how people can see Ringabel and Elvis as the same character type. While those two are the “suave” party members, they act so differently from another. And that’s honestly apparent the first time you meet them. 

Anyways, I love these 4 so much.

We technically don’t know a lot about Seth at all, but they manage to pull so much out of just the fact that he’s a sailor, that it makes him really endearing, really fast.

I was kinda disinterested with Gloria at first, because again, the initial impression was Agnés2.0, but she grew on me a lot. Gloria is way more hard headed and honestly sassy in comparison to Agnés and I absolutely adore it.

Elvis. Elvis, my man. I love this fantasy scottosh wizard so, so much. He’s such a ridiculous character but so endearing at the same time. You got all this dorkiness, with him setting himself on fire as a student, him doing god knows what for a good drink or just laughing danger and prejudice in the face. But then you got his super empathetic and caring side. Mind you, most of his wise moments come from quoting Lady Emma, but still, as much as he’s hopeless with certain social situations, he’s actually still really good at reading the room and playing things smart. He’s a smart and powerful idiot, which makes him a danger to everyone and himself, and I love him for it. (I also can’t believe they called him Lesley I MEAN COME ON)

And then there’s Adelle. I liked her from the start, but I didn’t think she would stick out to me. I think now she’s my favourite character. Not even talking about all the stuff that happens in chapter 3 and onward, because these story threads are awesome in their own right, but there’s just something about her personality that’s interesting and appealing to me. Like I said, I’m not surprised people compare her to Edea, I did too at first, but while Edea walks very close to the line of a Tsundere, I was really surprised that Adelle is, well, not a Tsundere at all. Yeah, of course she’s putting Elvis down a lot, but that stems more from her preventing his ego from going to his head than her being all embarrassed. No, Adelle is actually really well adjusted when it comes to communication. While it’s hilarious that she and Elvis met with her chucking her shoes at him, the two just got along well right from the start. Adelle in general has this really open and helpful personality, but also doesn’t shy away from putting her foot down, even if that sometimes comes out as an embarrassed sputter. She’s also the mother hen of the group. She looks out for the other three and gets concerned about them real fast. 

I dunno, Adelle just really grew on me over the course of this game, and then her kinda being paired with Elvis too, as partners and as partners, makes me like her even more. Because as much as I like their personalities individually, I like their character dynamic even more. I honestly love the relationships between all four of them a lot. You really feel them grow closer as friends and all the little character sidequests just always made me really happy.

Conclusion

You might not believe me, but I really held back there. This could probably have been 3 times its length. As much as I love this game, it’s of course not perfect. It struggles and flails in some parts a lot and it certainly has some aspects that might turn people off. But for me, it was just a very familiar and comfy game that didn’t necessarily deliver anything new, but that told its story in such a way that it still got me excited to keep going. The soundtrack is absolutely amazing and the conclusion of the story actually got me to cry. While not groundbreaking, this game is highly enjoyable and leaves you absolutely satisfied at the end.
