falling into sonic again..

no i grew up watching those epic sprite animations and sonic final fantasies, sonic paradox even. The games I played were heroes and a few more like unleashed and mega collection and i adored black knights transformation sequence i would play it in the car repeatedly ( i never owned a wii). I watched all the sonic gameplay I could. My favourite characters being sonic and shadow. I, however grew up and believed sonic was not "famous" and was niche, jealous of the only sonic merch being the boys underwear in the superstore :(,

i didnt like boom or even lost world. it wasn't "sonic" to me, so i fell out, come forces and im burned, never touching this franchise again in my mid teens. I looked at how it was doing, would watch dubs and enjoy animations but eh that was it for me.

then.. comes 2023 and the thing that drags me back into this franchise, the thing that fucking pulls me in and keeps me buried... is those same two fucking hedgehogs but this time... their fucking ship. I suppose i can blame the art that took me here in the first place but holy shit. if you told me when i was 5 years old that i would come to adore sonadow and that would be the sole reason for my staying to the sonic franchise and all i would draw would be fucking sonadow, i would think you were fucking stupid and then go on word and make sonic comics of him running and pissing on eggman. no its the fucking fact, that now its come to a point where the dynamic of sonic and shadow genuinely have shifted my entire brain chemistry, they are everything, romantic subtext or not, they have literally shaped my interest for the past half year.

the fucking SYMBOLISM sega hints around them??!! them being stars, fated, destined to meet, mirror images, understanding eachother the most yet causing the most frustration. Sonic, is the one character that can get so, so personal to shadow, challenge him in a way and intrigue him in the most bizzarest of ways he never understands yet finds equal annoyance as much as admiration, sonic is a shift to his core. Shadow also does care quite a bit, just as much as he gets irritated at his presence, i find it funny how in sonic 06, the two characters saving sonic are amy and Fucking SHADOW the hedgehog. (albeit you dont see this alot erm due to segas insistence of making characters.. boring? but anyways)

their TRUST.. in eachother, the sonic x shadow generations descriptions do it so well (esp in jp).

in sa2 when they.. worked together for the first time in space and.. he called him the ultimate life form.. and sonic and shadow.. just in that moment.. were together as one. and oh man..

I could talk about prime but uh my favourite interactions in there are mostly when one of the other was uncouncious or in a state of unawareness (youd be suprised how much this happened). like sonic holding shadow and saving him, he seems to get really, REALLY emotional when it comes to shadow than anybody else.. for some reason... and shadow' reaction when sonic almost died. OWee that was done so well. the way.. he held him.. tight.. when sonic was dying.. oh my gosh. bride style. oahy.. im not too fond on talking about prime since in terms of the "sonic and shadow" dynamic it sort of slaps you in the face but hey I appreciate some sonadow anytime, if that was their actual only canon dyamic i dont think I'd care for it as much but its more of an add on to one of the most insane PASSIONATE.. crazy mutually charged dynamics ive seen in my life... like why are they like that.. can they STOP.. those two.. my brain will explode if we actually like actually like ACTUALLY see them togteher and if its anything like "them" with their subtetly and bizzare unique tensions, i think i will lose my sanity and just not function anymore. good fucking bye if i see a mention towards emerl or the ending of sa2 i will lose my absolute shit and you random person seeing this will see me go through it. my sketchbook would probably be overwhelmed by the amount of incoherent sonadow mess dear lord why..

hhhhh thinking about zevwyll

the older/younger dynamic has always been a favorite of mine, the eromenos and erastus, the dorian and lord henry, the hadrian and antinous. so it obviously permeates my ships.

i also LOVE fairytale dyamics. yuta being partially a self insert but also an obvious rapunzel/cinderella archetype with a knight in shining armor (a city guard in banged up leathers).

With Wyll, I love the dynamic of a folk hero falling in love with the (mythologized) courageous leader of the people he helped save, the parallels between them as exiles from their own home for their proximity to devils. Perhaps even finding solace between one another, where they're both so used to putting themselves aside for the sake of others, finally able to unburden themselves without fear of burdening others.

I especially love that Wyll is essentially a Prince of Baldur's Gate. I realllly love Royal x Knight type of dynamics, ESPECIALLY Prince x Older Knight. The devotion involved with something like that along with the stubbornness and haughtiness of youth compared to the calmer experiences of the mature. The idea of Zevlor being a retired soldier at his side. the potential redemption for both of them!!

Wyll being flashy and dressed to the nines in noble garb when he has to Make Appearances, Zevlor dressed nicely but somewhat more modestly.

Zevlor may not be noble but I'm sure he's learned a thing or two as a commander having to make Appearances. Dancing with Wyll. A quiet, secret look across a room full of patriars while they ditch together.

no cause marco & connie are so [clenches fist], there's so much drama there from what we had in their backstories to then the introduction of the destroyers & both of them falling into this toxic destruction of other's making but their love kept them alive long enough to reunite.

my only criticism would be that i wish we had more of them because it really felt like we didn't get much before connie was kidnapped & it made me sad, though the side manga helped to alleviate that.

marco / striker.

the obsession. marco trying so hard to get away from this life but the ghost of striker haunts him until he resurrects in that obsessive love to drag them both down to somewhere marco can never abandon him again. their promise they made as children ended up being a curse & it's so good to see, especially since even after marco's death: striker is still haunted. he'll never escape that man & it's unhinged!

mitch / clementine.

not one of my top ships for clementine but it's definitely up there in the top five because their immediate sardonic, witty banter together definitely endeared me. i think clementine can recognize that surly attitude in him that she definitely had in season 3 & it endears her to him. meanwhile mitch is definitely lowkey fascinated with this all knowing girl that just showed up out of nowhere with a mouth as big as his.

louis / clementine.

my second favourite clementine ship, these two immediately caught my attention when i started playing the 4th season because louis is exactly what clementine needs. someone who can break through that very tough wall she's built & remind her that she's still a kid, as well as someone who regards aj as someone that's the most important thing to her.

canon did them so dirty, why did they do that to my poor boy :((

violet / clementine.

i did really used to like them more but the behaviour of the shippers in two [redacted] servers just absolutely turned me off from the ship. they do have some really cute moments but i do wonder if violet's whole demeanour would end up dragging clementine further into her negative traits rather than someone who will hold her accountable & remind her that she's still a kid at the end of the day. idk.

clementine / minvera.

oh my poor baby scrungles. i loved their dynamic from day one & minverva remains the top wlw ship i have for clementine cause they're just so [clenches fist] fucked up. while other ships serve to remind clementine that she doesn't have to be the way she was for survival anymore, clem / minerva would go the exact opposite way in minerva dragging clementine down into her own trauma because she can't do it alone.

so much good toxicity that i always love to see play out ✨

luca / sherry.

for a background couple, they excel in married energy & i love how nonjudgemental luca is of his wife's profession: in fact he seems to adulate this aspect of who she is & put's her on for show, so everyone knows how amazing his wife is & how much he adores her. get you a man like luca!

loretta / nina.

oh my god no these two would be so cute & i like that they also seem to represent the future of ergastulum, wanting to do better for the good of the people there & that would be something they connect over greatly. also loretta hearing about nina's favourite drink from worick & she ends up buying an entire caseload wheeze.

maverick / svetlana.

not something super on my radar but there's just something so intriguing about these two & how they exist in the dyamics of their "families", how that would interconnect with how they exist within each other.

delico / yang & yang / erica.

putting these two together bc oh the dynamics here are just so !! delico as the replacement for the sister they both lost, that playing into their mutual guilt & tension between each other, they would die for each other & kill for each other but would that extend to what they become if they ever got erica back. how would that dynamic warp & twist with what erica has become, the traumatic psychosexual connections & all three of them just needing to be together. so fascinating.

alex / galahad.

not one of my main ships for either but i can't deny they would be so cute together, especially with galahad's protectiveness over alex & him convincing her to let loose & enjoy herself a little! adorable!

striker / beretta.

the definition of evil soulmates: they'll watch the world burn for each other because even with striker's obsession with marco, he remains at beretta's side. they're two puzzle pieces, a bullet & a gun, a whip & blood splatter. they'll burn the world. they'll survive in each other time & time again because this is just who they are.

The Reynolds Implication: the funhouse Roys! Dee and Dennis and all their shared trauma and loving each other and hating each other and literally being chained together. Barbara grooming her son and making it her mission to destroy her daughter. Frank pimping out his kids to the point that Dee gets pissed off enough to rip his clothes off instead, Pop Pop having no affection for Dee at all but groping her anyway.

Chuck/Jimmy: love can be very close to slavery if you play your cards right. Mabel the book being next to Chuck when he dies. Chuck's soul is sick and he can't stop hurting his brother. Why was I attracted to Walt? Because he was like Chuck. I haven't slept in the same room with a guy since I was twelve. The centre of it all - Chuck. The only one that mattered in the family was Chuck. Howard and Jimmy are both victims of Chuck.

Kim/her mother: Kim would rather kill herself than become her mother and she did both for a while, she knows what's happening with Jimmy and Chuck because she's had it happen before, the way she needs to control, the way she'll never actually force Jimmy into anything, the way in Florida she thinks she doesn't deserve anything better than Red Cloud.

he turns towards Myranda , the iron caps on his boots leaving heavy clangs with each step , and he props one elbow on the rail . " it's all about me because I make it all about me . it's fun , you should try it sometimes . " and mischief blazes in those blue eyes , so very similar to Euron's own good eye .
