Nico and his skeletal butterflies headcanons! (because I say so)

- The butterflies are Persephone’s doing! She gives them to Nico as a prank and now he can’t get rid of them because 1) they won’t go away 2) he doesn’t want to be a dandelion, again.

- Nico just leaves them be. He’s tired of swatting and it’s not like they annoy him too much except for excessive silver dust in his hair and on his clothes that gleamed like glitters in the light.

- Besides, they can find water sources and other natural supplies surprisngly well. Extremely useful in dire situations.

- Unlike normal butterflies, they can fly in the rain because duh?

- They are quite useful for scout because let’s be honest, taking out the colorful appearance and leaving only their bare minimum of the thin exoskeleton, the butterflies are borderline invisible in others’ eyes.

- But they glow in the dark, btw.

- Sensitive to smell of death (and Nico’s). Can touch ghosts/ spirits etc... Can be used to repel them.

- Unfathomably sturdy... you would think it they are easy to crush because of their fragile, thin exoskeleton. But no, it’s freaking hard. They can literally damage people’s eyes with their tiny pointy bodies by flying straight at them. Nico still doesn’t understand.

- Hazel likes them. She thinks they are beautiful. Nico disagrees but he’s nothing if not indulgent towards his sister.

- They can’t have jewelries from Hazel’s cursed gem but surely they can have some fun with the glitter of butterfly scale. Think, the two dancing in the sparkling rain of silver butterflies and their shining dust.

- Hades is quite annoyed at first but shuts up when he is informed of the perpetrator.

- Annabeth always looks at them like she’s dissecting them with her mind. A Demeter cabin asks for one to add to her sample collection (Nico strongly refuses).

- The Aphrodite cabin is obsessed with them. The “Omg where did you get it??” “Oh can you ask Lady Persephone to curse me with some then?” kind.
