The Sea Never Dies Series - FiresFromOurHearts
Link: https://archiveofourown.org/series/715674 Series Summary: Uzushiogakure is more than a ruin. Her people wander and they hide themselves away, refusing to be who they once were. Uzushio sees this and she refuses to let the world stay that way. Uzushiogakure may have fallen, but Uzushio is far from dead.
Meanwhile, Konoha kills off almost all of the Uchiha Clan, leaving two - Sasuke Uchiha and Toru Uchiha. Sasuke's survival was meant to happen. Toru's survival was due to luck, (and something more, something much, much bigger than luck).
The world is not safe or nice or good. It hasn't been such for a while. That's alright though. Toru can make things happen with his own two hands and his words. He can change his world, even if it isn't the entire world. Toru doesn't like the whole world that much anyway. Series Status: Completed; Five main stories, entitled Sea Dreams, Current Strength, Ocean's Own Stories, Tideswept, and then Wayfinders in respective order, and a collection of AUs.   Series Word Count: 651k overall
Ry Reviews:  What happens when Yondaime Uzukage of Uzushio and Uzushio ANBU, Mizushima Toru, is born anew in the body of young Uchiha Toru? It gives Sasuke an older sibling figure who helps him learn how to grieve his loss and gives Sasuke advice into how to move past the tragedy that threatens to consume him. It gives Konoha an Uchiha Clan Head who is proactive in rectifying the education of young ninjas and dedicated in his efforts to make sure that the Uchiha legacy is not a brutal massacre by the Clan Heir.  Sea dreams and Current Strength follows Toru as he struggles to be of Konoha ( a ninja to the village, an older brother,a teammate & a Clan Head) while he still hears Uzushio singing in the back of his head. Toru decides to focus on improving Konoha for Sasuke, promising to come back to the Uzushio at a later time. The last three, Ocean's Own Stories, Tideswept, and then Wayfinders, follows Toru making preparations to come back to Uzushio and Sasuke and Naruto as they grow up to a better konoha. The OC, Toru, is pretty level-headed and emotionally mature. He is the type to plan and put the plan into action. He is also pretty op with fuinjutsu skills surpassing the current generation of shinobis and being quite adept with jutsu. I attributed this to Toru being the Uzukage in his previous life. I don’t dislike OCs who are overpowered; but I want there to have an understanding of their powers and their abilities having consquences/limitations. In The Sea Never Dies, Toru needs to re-learn all the jutsu he knows and he has to build his chakra reserves. The most important limitation of the Oc is that his goals isn’t something he can accomplish on his own. He wants to make an active change in Konoha; he has to have a voice in the Clan Council and his own networks of information. He wants to rebuild Uzushio, he needs to meet remnants of clans from the island.
It has a superb worldbuilding in regards to Uzushio and ANBU, as it is an integral part of our main character. It goes into details why Uzushio was attacked and why no one of its allies lend to help. The pacing is great as it goes into detail of growing up, settling into a ninja, planning to make Konoha a better place and making the decision to come back to Uzushio.  OC has cockroach as summon. Beware if you are uncomfortable with it. Standout Moments *spoiler alert* Toru creating an information network by gaining the trust and organizing street urchins. The information network is so wide that it reaches in all the shinobi villages and daimyou. Toru spearheading the change of the Acadenmy’s curriculum.  Toru managing to fake their own death because a teammate (from ROOT) tried to kill him. Gaining the information of Root by having his cockroach summons follow said teammate. Collecting information from ROOT headquarters. Managing to sneak back into Konoha and give the information to the Sandaime. Be a part of the team that will ambush ROOT HQ.

Some fic recs from my bookmarks
(Max is my favourite character and blind!max is one of my favourite tropes, which is why it's mentioned fairly often here)
light will prevail by mreads22: max-centric, blind!max (the first st fic I read, even before watching the show itself)
Pull Myself Together, You Could Watch It Happen by UniversallyEcho: complete, max-centric, not vol2 compliant (very little plot, but great characterization and one of my all time favourites)
the kids aren't alright by MaryPSue: complete, gen (season 1 au where all the Hawkins born kids realise they have powers, one of the best st fics out there)
We Will Be (Invincible) by HaneleHaralue: SIOC, chrissy&oc, eddie&oc (WAIT before you go away bc this is self-insert, I promise it's really good. There's no romance so far, and the mc isn't obnoxious)
Scientifically Proven by Unproductive_Fangirl: complete, post s4, elumax, blind!max (YES. a complete, elumax-centric fic. It exists!)
if being afraid is a crime, we hang side by side by Claire10: complete, post s4, max&mike, blind!max (watch these two wrecks have four emotional breakdowns in like an hour)

Be My Eyes by givehimthemedicine: complete, post s4, elmax, blind!max (bit of angst and then pure fluff at the end)
And Who Are We At The End Of It All? by Caseys_Crying: post s4, steddie, ronance (lots of stuff ongoing, only about 1/3 done, parents find out)
more recs under the cut:
(it's you and me) won't be unhappy by nnegan13: complete, post s4, not vol2 compliant, lumax
you can't lose me by providing_leverage: complete, s4 au, gen (there should be more 'the parents find out' fics)

there’s blood in my ears (and a fool in the mirror) by fastcardotmp3: complete, pre s4 and post s4, steddie, eddie&max, blind!max (one of those "eddie is not actually dead and needs to find his way back" fics)
The Upside by harpiaharpyja: complete, post s4, hellcheer, eddie&max (one of those "eddie is not actually dead and needs to find his way back" fics)
(Not All) Those Who Wander Are Lost by Kedreeva: complete, post s4, eddie&max (one of those "eddie is not actually dead and needs to find his way back" fics, except it's more about the upside down as its own world)
standing up the dead by heartofwinterfell: complete, post s4, eddie&max (one of those "eddie is not actually dead and needs to find his way back" fics, but mostly max-centric)
The Fruity Four Beat 1983 To Death With A Nail Bat by TheKidReadingInTheCorner: complete, steddie, ronance (unserious time travel shenanigans)
took you for a working boy by pukner: complete, post s4, pre steddie (kinda humourly written)

Ao3/ff things that bug me
• a/b/o, not bc it's weird, im veteran ff reader so I'm used to it, but because when that word is written without slashes it's the same as a slur that refers to aboriginal/indigenous Australians. Sometimes I see it in fic recs or summaries and it catches me off guard everytime T^T
• when I'm trying to find a crossover fic but all the fics have multiple tags of the same fandom, (I.e. both chainsawman manga and chainsawman anime) it makes it so much harder to find crossovers ;-;
• PPL USING THE DEAD DOVE TAG WRONG,, like I feel like ppl have started using this tag for the smallest reasons like 'Oh no character a is kinda toxic in this I need to tag it with dead dove' like stooooppp
• the fact that sioc has been basically replaced by x reader,, like nothing against x readers or short like smut fics or whatever, but if you're writing a slowburn, Canon divergence ff about y/n, its not even the reader anymore??? Like,, just give them a name so I don't have keep getting ripped put of the immersion everytime I see (y/n) or [your name], at least write it in 2nd or 1st person
• this one's kinda petty, but when people tag a fic as slowburn when it's barley even 10k, like how is that a slowburn ??

More KHR recs!
Still not done with ffn yet lol, sorry. I swear I'm giving you the best ones on the list!
Adoption by Memory25
I have to scream about this fic a little bit. SIOC Izumi adopts Kyouya after his grandmother dies. Distant relative and newly emancipated minor herself, if she doesn't take Kyouya, he'll go into the system and have his inheritance stolen from him. Not if Izumi has anything to say about it. So cute with kid!Kyouya. He's already using his animal metaphors, though, lol. Very realistic look at what happens in this kind of situation, but doesn't linger on them. Izumi is such a great mom in this. Some of the shit she's willing to pull for Kyouya is amazing.
Trinisetre, Unleashed by Syrlai
The Mare rings and the Arcobalenco are missing. Changes suddenly happen in the past and the 10th Gen have to fix it. They end up mistaken as runaways and are adopted by the 1st Gen.
Scorched by RenagadeWarrior
Hilarious. This whole fic left me feeling thrilled. Tsuna finds a baby bird in the grill one day. He decides to raise it and .... hmm... I don't think normal birds catch on fire. Tsuna gets a Phoenix as a friend. Nana names her Tsubird and is more involved in Tsuna's life. Tsubird doesn't care who sees her be a Phoenix. She will set herself on fire, teleport herself and sometimes another person away, use her Phoenix song. She also hates anything that hurts Tsuna. She left a peice of trash on the stairs once and Tsuna fell so now she hates litterers and will absolutely savage people for it. Kyoyya was in awe. Crazy adventures ensue. Love the more mythy part of it.
Ayakashi by Kyogre
Tsuna is half youkai and his Gaurdians aren't all human either. Kitsune Nana, rich worldbuilding, immersive. A unique spin on the Curse of the Rainbow Arc.
Contract by Metamorcy
Tsuna/Reborn Earth and Meravigli are connected to one another. A contract can be formed with a Summoner from Earth. Summoner Tsuna hates being forced into the high end Summoning college by his controlling family who destroyed every path he tried to take. One day when he has to visit Meravigli to tey to form a Contract, he meets Reborn, a native of Meravigli. Surprisingly humanoid, Reborn saves his life and is eventually charmed into a friendship. Them they Fake A Contract so Reborn can come and go. Then the other Arcobalenco get involved.
A Fairy-Tale of Two Idiots by Dandelion-san
King Iemitsu has had enough! All of these perverts need to stay away from his son! So he locks Tsuna in an isolated tower. And hires a dragon to gaurd it! Dragon!Reborn/Tsuna sort of crack
Athena by Autore Raita
Alice must have done something real good in her past life. How else could she be a witness of Reborn's disgraceful early years? OC with KHR knowledge grows up with Reborn and "trains" him. Just like Tsuna.
School Days by AwedByAwesomeness
Outsider PoV of the Vongola Gaurdians picking Lambo up from school. So good
I Am by skygem
Warning! Aftermath of Suicide By Main Character!
Set as a poem, it shows all the lives that didn't change for the better because they never met Tsuna. Reflects on the effects of bullying.
Learning for Life by Santoka
Tauna was going to make his high school years better than his middle school years! A new start! Or it was until the police stormed his classroom.
Heat-Haze Days by Metamorcy
Reborn/Tsuna Reborn hates this. He's been stuck looping August 14th for far too long. Nothing he does changes it. Something always kills him. Then someone takes his place. And does that stranger really remember the loops?
You Don't Mess With the Decimo by Anelli di Tempesta
Partial identity reveal fic. Tsuna's class has to get an interview with a high ranking company member of their choice. The class that interviews the highest position wins. Luckily, their classmates mom is pretty high up there. Then she starts insulting her new CEO and his family. Tsuna puts her in her place. Two-shot
Thrown into the Past by skygem
Really good series where the 10th Gen, at various ages popped into the past and was partially raised by them only to return to their own time. The 10th Gen desperately try to find everyone.
I Promise by skygem
I cried so much! Super Hurt/Comfort fic. 18 yr old Giotto's parents just died, leaving 4 yr old Tsuna in his care. But he can't support Tsuna, who was taken into foster care. Then comes the day they can meet again.
Ghostly Interferrence by phoenixtears07
Giotto comes to spend time with his newest descendent. He accidently influences Tsuna's first word. Two shot!
To Make A Carnivore by phoenixtears07
9 yr old Kyouya finds cute 7 yr old Tsuna one day. He decides that he will teach this fluffy little thing a carnivore. It goes... not well. Hilarious. Super cute.
Rapunzel is Secretly an Assassin by miikka-xx
Squalo gets stuck in a magical tower and Xanxus has to break him out. Squalo/Xanxus. Hilarious. Parody-crack
Bail by Zessei
Once again, Tsuna is spending his Saturday bailing Hibari out of jail. One shot
Snapping Point by JapanManiac
Even the most gentle and patient people reach a breaking point eventually. Tsuna's gaurdians and the Varia learn that the hard way. Humor
That is officially all of my ffn list! I hope you'll love these just like I do.
!!!!!

She woke up in a hospital bed under the name HYacinth Doe. Doctor Bruce Banner told her she had been rescued from a HYDRA facility, along with evidence that their scientists had ripped her out of her universe and into theirs, granting her healing powers in the process.
The problem is, the Avengers aren't even *real* in her universe. Banner and all the others look like the actors that portray them, and even though Director Fury is gratified to hear he's just as badass where she comes from, she's not sure the others would feel the same. Her biggest challenge isn't actually being asked to join the Avengers, but figuring out how to hide her crush on her favorite character, Tony Stark. At first, that's not a problem--he doesn't trust her. It's when he doubles down on his theory about her origins that things get tricky.

Russian Roulette (FF R | AO3 R | FF SC | AO3 SC) The Dragoness’ Library
By: Vixen Tail (FF | AO3)
Ship: Not Available
Last Updated: 2020-03-12
Summary:
Reloaded: No one ever said an SI gets a place in canon events, or that they would be ideally placed at all. How much would you recall if you had decades to go before anything in a long-forgotten story comes to be? AU, Thief!SI/OC, Pre!Fated Day Arcobaleno, very Pre!Canon
Second Chamber: No one ever said an SI gets a place in canon events, or that they would be ideally placed at all. How much would you recall if you had decades to go before anything in a long-forgotten story comes to be? AU, Thief!SI/OC, Pre!Fated Day Arcobaleno, very Pre!Canon
Opinion: This may be one of my favorite Self Insert fanfictions ever! There’s no current Ship but it will likely be Reborn/Original Character based in the writing. That said the world-building on here both with the Universe as a whole and the Flame Lore is amazingly on point and I think everyone in the KHR Fandom should read it or at least give it a shot.

Fic rec!
The Color of Summer, one of my favorite Naruto SIOCs. Naruto has a twin who isn't as fond of the village as everyone would like him to be. They make friends with the Uchiha early on, but we all know how that's going to go.
It really well written, I love this fic so much. Mind the tags, though.

Double Rec: Dead Tired, by Thalia (Spacebattles username) AKA Schrodinger'sUsername (FFN username), and Tower Defense, by OrcPrincess (Spacebattles username). This is a double Rec because both fics take place in the exact same universe! Or fic-verse, if u will. Ask the authors for further details.
Dead Tired: One very tired agender necromancer named Saturday Morris has come to Gotham City on an errand of sorts from Death Of The Endless herself! Sat can see ghosts/souls and has been tossed into mental hospitals in the past because of this ability. Gotham’s ghostly activity happens to be troubling and Sat needs to fix it. *sarcastic* Yay for Sat. Also, Sat gets the Gotham Insanity Special for their welcoming party, and they get an apartment to live in for their stay. There’s also the graveyard. And The Red Hood/Jason Todd is their roommate. There is a non-magical contract involved in their arrangement. Plus Sat has no future knowledge! And you’ll probably want to room in with poor Sat and Jason just to give them some semblance of warmth and normalcy!
Tower Defense: This OC, a guy named Emery Beryl, was out hiking one night when a meteor hit him and his body was shattered. The AI that was apparently attached to the meteor was able to repair the guy, with the only visible “upgrades” being a black box sticking out of the back of his neck and holes in his wrists. The AI himself wasn’t so lucky; he’s missing most of his data, and he’s pretty sure the biggest chunk is in Metropolis. Also, the other catches of the repairs to Emery’s body are powers like matter conversion, and the piece of the AI that stayed with him - in his head, specifically - being an annoying brat who he sorta adores nonetheless. The AI’s name is Max. Oh, and the two of them got the Metropolis Special as their welcome!

Tower Defense link: forums. spacebattles. com/threads/tower-defense-dc-sioc. 391492/
Oh, perfect!!!  links!!! thank you so much for taking the time to send this in!

SI-OC Fanfic Recs
So, it’s been a long time coming, but I finally got the time and energy to do this. What better way to start, but with one of my favorite guilty pleasures.
I listed them in the order that I read them.
This is a post in progress, though, so I’ll update it when I have a new one.
Naruto
Déjà vu no Jutsu by Vixen Tail. AO3 // FF.net
Take one dead, thirty year old career soldier, stick in the body of a child during the Second Great Shinobi War. Add a mini-Namikaze Minato, ninjas, chakra, tailed beasts, and shake well. Is it any wonder she thought she was insane?
It’s so good. I love everything about this fanfic. The characters, the world-building, the way emotions and trauma are treated. There are just no words strong enough to explain how much I love this one. I particularly enjoy the fact that the main character doesn’t accept reincarnation as perfectly normal and thinks she’s losing her mind. Also, there is an explanation about what exactly happened for her to be here and that’s awesome.
Clearing Mist by shadownumera. FF.net
I have the worst luck ever. First off, I die. Then I get reborn into the Naruto universe. Yay right? WRONG. Nobody ever said you get to be reborn into Konoha. Which makes finding out where I am in the story line that much harder. I don't know if I can change anything, or if the bloodbath is far behind me. One thing's official though. I'm screwed.
This one is more lighthearted, but still pretty amazing. It also diverges from most SI fanfic by the fact that the main character is reborn in Kiri.
108 Earthly Temptations by Vixen Tail. AO3 // FF.net
A character study into why the older generations of shinobi are harsher and less inclined to compromise. SI/OC Pre-Konoha, Warring States Period, Post-Founding. Currently up to the middle-end of the Second Great Shinobi World War.
I found this one slightly confusing at times, particularly in the beginning. Still a really good read.
The Yondaime's Assistant by DianaMoth. FF.net
When I reincarnated in the world of Naruto, I was lucky enough to live in Konoha but not lucky enough to get all the superpowers you could hope for. I failed my jounin-sensei test and ended up in the Genin Corps. Bye bye jounin rank but, considering it also meant avoiding the battlefield, that's fine with me. Now I just had to get a position allowing me to change History...
I love this one! It’s different from others because we mostly met the main character when she’s already an adult. There’s not long chapters dedicated to how much it sucks to be dead or to be stuck in a baby’s body. It’s refreshing. Also, the author didn’t shy away from Polyamory and it makes me really, really happy.
Guardian Angel of Trouble Twins by DianaMoth. FF.net
Reincarnating as a crow was nicer than you would think... until the Trouble Twins found the summoning scroll for the Karasu. Then they grew on her and she had to save their lives. How annoying. They better gave her lots of almonds or she'll elope with the ninken summoner!
It’s crack, honestly, and I can’t have enough! This one takes a completely different turn from regular SI fanfic and it’s so, so good.
Stamping on Butterflies by kjate95. FF.net
I had a feeling in the back of my mind as if something had changed that day. Had I looked around I would have noticed a shadow lurking in the trees and something change in said persons eyes with interest. I might have regretted revealing so much. But I didn't notice, and so I remained blissfully ignorant.
This one is about the Hyuuga and they are so mess up.
What Doesn't Kill You by Zbluez. FF.net
...Oh wait, it did.
That’s actually a perfect summary for this one and I love it. Also, more moral ambiguity and some sciency aspects that went over my head.
Dragonfly by peccolia. FF.net
Being reborn into the Uchiha clan in the same generation as Itachi promises nothing but a short-lived second life. But, hey—if I'm going to die with certainty, I might as well go out with a bang, right?
It’s not a happy ending and it makes me really sad, but at the same time I wouldn’t have it any other way. Before it goes to that though, it’s completely crackish.
True to Myself by flitterflutterfly. AO3 // FF.net
I never expected to die young, but if I had I would have probably thought something normal like a car accident. I wasn’t given a peaceful death though. Maybe the trauma I went through on that night, the same night as the Uchiha massacre, is the reason I found myself in the Naruto world. I was far from happy about any of it, but I’d always been a determined person and I learned to make the best of the situation.
This one is unfortunately abandoned, but it’s still awesome. I still recommend it, because it's a really good work with a character who didn’t have a peaceful death, some reflexion about identity, how the character deals with trauma...
Someday We'll Leave the Light On by petrichor. AO3
It is not a question of whether or not we pass the genin exam; it is a question of, Who will be on the team?
This one is almost a character study in some aspects. The author is playing with the writing style and it makes for a really flowing reading. Once you start, you just never want to stop, almost like you’re in a hurry and running with the characters.
Hear the Silence by EmptySurface. FF.net
"When did you start to remember?" He asked next, relaxing further in his seat, which Kyo found calming. In which another lease on life is a bit more complicated than Kyo had at first anticipated.
This one is really interesting. The world-building alone is wonderful. All the characters are well fleshed-out and it handles very well the reality of child soldiers, trauma and all those other nasty things that aren’t elaborated in Naruto, but we all know are there.
Katekyō Hitman Reborn!
Russian Roulette by Vixen Tail. AO3 // FF.net
No one ever said an SI gets a place in canon events, or that they would be ideally placed at all. How much would you recall if you had decades to go before anything in a long forgotten story comes to be?
At this point, you can just assume that Vixen Tail is awesome and all her works are worth a read.
Seiryū by petrichor. AO3
Reincarnation is not always a blessing. A butterfly beats its wings, and a hurricane forms halfway around the world. (Or, What would happen if Sawada Tsunayoshi had an older sibling figure to look up to and be tutored by years before a certain Sun Arcobaleno showed up in Namimori?)
The second half of the story is almost entirely in Reborn’s point of view (for now) and it’s a really amazing perspective.
Bolt from the Blue by Umei no Mai FF.net
Xanxus picks up his first Guardian very early; his father rather wishes he hadn't. Things change accordingly.
Umei no Mai is mainly known for her crossover HP-KHR Black Sky, but Bolt from the Blue is definitely my favorite.
Harry Potter
Triumphant, the Dreamer by Shadowblayze. AO3 // FF.net
Heather's not exactly sure how she got here, but if these people thought that they would be able to manipulate her little brother without a her raising hell about it, they were about to be unpleasantly surprised.
There aren’t a lot of SI-OC in the HP fandom. Or at least, I haven’t found a lot of them, but this one is worth everything. And the world-building is truly magical.
Percy Jackson
Eye of the Hurricane by Hanane EL Mokkadem. FF.net
Life as a demigod is short and brutal. Here's to hoping I don't die before I'm at least old enough to get laid.
This one is the first PJO SIOC I read and I still love it.
The Ocean’s Radiance by Madrigal-in-training. FF.net
She had idly daydreamed about being reincarnated into her favorite books before but Hikari Kurosawa, Daughter of Apollo, was never supposed to be a character there, was she?
Madrigal-in-training has really great ideas and I love reading her works. Ocean’s Radiance is one of my favorite. She stays in the PJO’s main universe with the Greek gods, but by making her OC half-Japanese, she also develops her headcanon about Japanese demigods and it’s really interesting. The fic is also humoristic and fluffy while staying serious. Hikari is full of resources and determined to stay alive and it’s just a really good read.
Dreamer by Dante Kreisler. FF.net
Ignoring the rebirth, I had a peaceful life. School, dyslexia, step-family, ADHD, and camp. Even when Percy Jackson entered Camp Half-Blood, nothing particularly exciting came into my life, but of course, I probably jinxed myself.
I loved fic that develops minor characters, or in this case minor gods. Like with Apollo’s gift of prophecies, a child of Hypnos can learn a lot through dreams and it’s wonderful.

For both Silver Queen and Jacksgreyson, can you guys recommend any other really good SIOC fics? Both from Naruto and other fandoms, if any stand out. (Other than Catch Your Breath by Lang Noi, which I have read and thoroughly enjoyed. )
Well, I think there might be some in the recs tag and I’m not great at remembering particular fics but off the top of my head there’s:
Vapors by Electrasev5n (which also has a sequel).
Iryo-nin Kasa (医療忍傘) by Vaengir
Déjà vu no Jutsu  by Vixen Tail
Cold waters  by erimies
There’s a few set in DOS-verse (though mostly focusing on other villages):
Dreaming of Moonflowers  by Monster Cat Music Girl
Dreaming of What Comes Next  by Korora12
As the Sea calls  by MoonRaven95
Trials and Tribulations  by sapper92
Blended Dreams  by Vaengir
The Other One  by Blackcurse11
And there’s a few more recs on the TVtropes page.
-Silver Queen
~
Uh, outside of what SQ’s listed above, I’m quite fond of:
Russian Roulette, also by Vixen Tail, which is a Katekyo Hitman Reborn fic (which actually got recommended to me by @violet-skya)
and
God of the Machine by The Carnivorous Muffin which is a Death Note fic (I recommend other fic by this author as well, but I think this one is my favorite of theirs)

Fan art of Dracule Riskua from @tsumeyuki‘s Tell it to the Marines, a SIOC fic in the One Piece universe. It’s brilliantly written and the characterization is so spot on -- a definite rec if you haven’t read it already.  I couldn’t help but imagine that, for a split second before she ran off in chapter 17, there was a flash of morbid realization about what she had done (and wore an expression closer to a sinking horror). And since it was told from Ace’s POV, he mistook that realization for a feral craze-- and those eyes of her’s really doesn’t help the image.  I can only hope I did her justice.
