apologies if you’ve answered this before or if there’s not really a specific gathered resource, but you seem knowledgeable about such things!— i am interested in learning more about f1 racing, do you have any recommendation for where to find a beginners guide/‘f1 for dummies’/place to begin learning more?

hello!!! i am also rather new to the sport and had to consume massive amounts of content from all over the place and frankly am still learning a lot all the time, so i'm not exactly an expert. what i can share are resources i relied on in my own ✨ descent into madness ✨ though !

so, my incomplete and questionable guide to selling your soul to f1:

it's all about how you like to learn and consume media tbh. i tried to watch a race initially, was confused, regrouped and started exploring. personally i watched all of dts up to the current season and then watched the first few races that i had missed while obsessively trawling twitter to learn more and waiting for my first live race (aka australia this year — massive rip). but it's up to you how you dive in!!

drive to survive

don’t get me wrong, dts has its issues — they invent drama, have some misleading portrayals, like to splice together clips from different race weekends together. it’s definitely more of a creative project than a straight up documentary.

that being said, it also explains a lot of the lore and history behind the sport, teams, and drivers in an entertaining fashion. it’s newcomer friendly so it explains the rules. yes, will buxton gets a lot of heat for stating the obvious, but some of those obvious explanations are helpful for the clueless.

there are also a lot of very cool shots and some good exclusive interviews that they get. sure, you can probably find them clipped on youtube, but may as well just watch dts. the first season is a little slow if you’re like me and want to see charles immediately (worth noting not all teams had agreed to participate s1), but that’s just me.

(plus: it’s entertaining. i live for drama. just take said drama with a grain of salt and assume it’s probably invented or blown out of proportion.)

the tiktok girlies

again: tiktok can be a bit hit or miss. you’ll see a lot of bad takes and pure cringe if you linger too long on f1 tiktok. but i started watching content from a few f1 girlies who seems reliable and had friendly introductory content. they’re generally very nice and happy to answer questions.

after a while i stopped watching them just because i no longer needed the intro information or explanations, but they did help fill in gaps and point out some of the inaccuracies of dts.

f1tv content

i am pretty sure f1tv isn’t available in all countries, but i have always watched races through f1tv. there are a lot of ways to watch races live illicitly if that’s what you prefer, and other countries have sky or other channels they can watch on (USA also has espn), but i prefer f1tv because i’m too lazy to find streams and don’t want to worry about stream issues mid race.

plus: f1tv comes with a whole archive of past seasons and a host of other media content during race weekends (ie, the fia press conferences on thursday, post-quali and post-race). they have a tech talk series that explains some of the technical aspects, do weekend warm-ups each race weekend that gives an update/context, and have been adding more intro content on the platform. there’s an app, which is convenient.

the f1tv stream also allows you to use the channel switcher to choose between your commentary options (f1tv or sky’s commentators), or to see the live timing data, or to see any of the driver onboards. it’s quick and you can switch back and forth easily. (if your computer can handle it — my mac often can’t — you can use multiviewer with your f1tv subscription to set up a bunch of different screens and panels to watch, for example, the main stream and a driver’s onboard. or multiple onboards. or whatever you want basically. personally i usually put the race on my ipad and the onboard on my phone, because that streams perfectly and multiviewer likes to kill my laptop.)

the downfall of f1tv is that they don’t have a smart tv app yet. idk why. it’s very irritating. it also might be a bit expensive to some, but i think it’s worth it.

f1 twitter (hell)

it’s a minefield out there. truly. BUT my next big question, after starting to get into watching races live and watching some old seasons and learning how it works, is how people seemed to always be in the know about paddock gossip. i wanted to know about it as it was happening and see the ~drama~ unfold live and feel like i was part of the season actually occurring.

so: twitter. follow your teams, follow your drivers, the for you tab is actually your friend here because it’ll bring new journalists and f1 commentators into your orbit as you learn who is who. some of the big driver fan pages operate as sources of information and updates with relative stealth if not immediate updating.

at this point i follow enough people (and have infected my algorithm enough) that i tend to see gossip and updates across most of the teams. big news tends to get shared by everyone anyway.

if you prefer tumblr, you can still get A Lot of updates on drama and gossip pretty quickly. there is a bit of a delay between information hitting twitter and information hitting tumblr (partially because none of the official teams or drivers have accounts on tumblr; partially because of the amount of people on f1twt versus f1blr). BUT, a lot of us tumblr girlies liveblog during the races and sessions and bring any crucial content over from twitter to share here, so the info will probably be here eventually/soonish. (following the race tags each weekend will prob give you a lot of the quick updates live.)

Hey hey so, just a friendly plea that when you're a guest at hotels/resorts - please give the workers providing you service due consideration, if nothing else.

Yes, we understand you pay a lot to stay at our resort for your vacation. Yes, we get paid to make your stay as comfortable as we can. But also understand that we're humans as well? We aren't the roombas in your house you can turn on at your command. You aren't the only guest we service; some days are busier than others and often times we're required to prioritize certain rooms over others.

It's frustrating for us too when we can't get to everything as fast as we like! - but we're required by brand standards to smile and be polite no matter how stressed or overwhelmed we are. We're trained on how important it is to conduct ourselves properly to appear friendly and accommodating. It'd be nice to receive the same decency in return sometime.

Also, I'm not sure if this is common across most hotels, but for the one I work at, if you call the front desk and request housekeeping service for your room, they will put a ticket in, and the housekeeper it's assigned to will make it their priority to complete at their earliest opportunity. If it was really that much of an issue that you get service, that you have to get entitled and passive-aggressive to the housekeeper - there were ways for you to communicate that to us beforehand! Hell, you could have even just approached me in the hall earlier and asked outright, instead of waiting to make an excuse to get pissed off! I had 15+ turnovers that take priority over the stayover I didn't know you so desperately fucking needed, thank you very much.

Fuck! What if I- Nope. Won't work it's missing the whole middle section. Shit. Fuck. Um, um, um... come on think. This is why we need to get better at time management! Lol, who am I kidding, that's never gonna happen. Okay time to check the drafted pile for apology one shots. Hmm... Which one to pick... ... Heh, forgot I had that. Oh you're- oh wait no not posting you. I have plans for you. Okay gotta find something. I'm sure there's something here with like an arc or something. I just gotta dig around a bit. *one hour later* Okay so I can go with short sex joke that only exists for the tags, or pure crack that's still missing the ending. But that should be fairly easy to write, like maybe an hour or two tops. Hmm tough call... On one hand the sex joke is done, but there's no clear ending. On the other I can make it two parts for extra time, but if I don't write the ending soon then I'll be behind on two things... Hmm... Fuck it, double or nothing!

what's the weirdest / crackest ship you ever rped? alternatively, do you have any fun ship related story?

FIRST of all, this is a fantastic prompt that filled me with so many past memories in RP--thank you so much for sending it in and allowing me to relive some nostalgia!!

When talk of past ships arises, I immediately have to shout out my day one ASH (@analuein & @skillswapping!!) WE've been writing for so long together, and the many natural adventures/bonds shared between our muses have led to some truly unexpected (but truly glorious) ships over the years: her Thorton shipping with my bounty hunter OC, and her Ingo shipping with my Sprout Tower sage OC, just to name a few examples!! I'm so thankful to Ash for being willing to ship with my past random assortment of OCs--even to this day, I still look back on those sprawling threads with a big old grin on my face. So much fun.

(Some other interesting ships that I'm now remembering with other muns of the past: My Barry and a Team Galactic Grunt--gasp, how forbidden!!--and a very short ship sailed between my Ramos and a Bertha--which was more of them just being old and adorable together. Great times. Thank you, past mun, for playing Bertha.)

Lately, I've found that exploring new types of relationships for my muses is super fun for me. I'm a sucker for muses who are just super tight friends who have each other's back no matter what, who can share a comfortable moment of silence together and all that. I adore the enemy dynamics, filled with cat-and-mouse tension, violence, high-stakes situations, and conflict piled on conflict. I've definitely dialed back on writing more romantic stuff as of late, but I do miss it--I think it's just a symptom of me not being as available ooc to discuss those muse dynamics/relationships with people. I've been working on reaching out more though--and always game to write fresh dynamics out with those who are interested, all ideas welcome!!

Oh gee oh boy, well first off good noon everyone, morning, night!

Augh I was planning on posting some doodles cause I’m not done drawing this one ask (that I might have to restart the render cause I’m not proud of it. Dark values don’t pop out enough)

But instead I’ve been feeling Eugh with feelings and confused if what I’m doing is right. But today is a pretty day (cloudy, chance of rain, the sky literally is covered in clouds and it’s breezy)

So I figured it’s not bad if I just separate myself from insta and a bit of tumblr for today at least (well I’ll still be online checking just not much interacting. Getting my brain a rest from working)

So now my mom helped me with my outfit today and I’m planning to draw it cause it rlly do be lookin cool. Asked her if we could go shopping later for some cool earrings and accessories plus techwear/cyber punk outfits cause I wanna be of that aesthetic) and she said yes so I’m rlly excited now

Anyways these are the kinda days I’m talking about. My absolute favorite and I’m glad she remembered. We’re currently going out to eat and I woke up two hours ago and realized “hey follow that workout routine and eat a good breakfast” and I was going to eat leftovers but she said we’re going out and I was considering staying at home and being lazy and stuff (also cause I didn’t have motivation due to FEELINGS.) But then she said “But they sell these really good foods and I think you’ll really like them, besides, it’s pretty outside like how you like it!” And that really warmed my heart cause she remembered and she was right- IT WAS A PRETTY DAY OUT AND I WILL GO OUT- FUCK MY FEELINGS (sad ones) I WANNA EAT HAPPILY
