It's those "Special Episodes" that some shows insert in the playlist between episodes.
They usually feature members of the cast breaking the fourth wall and addressing the audience with ad-libbed comments or responses to fan questions, answering an unseen interviewer, or partaking in some inane improvised game.
What's not to like ?
Well, it finally occurred to me: it breaks the flow of the drama, by giving us the actors minus their roles, thus breaking the spell so laboriously achieved in aid of the story. Poof, suspension of disbelief gone--blown up-- eradicated.
What a waste.
What would @absolutebl or @heretherebedork say about this ? Am I the only one complaining about this innocuous if distracting fan servicing ?
In their latest special episode, Flourish and Elizabeth discuss Rian Johnson’s Glass Onion, follow-up to the 2019 surprise hit (and Flourish’s absolute all-time never-liked-anything-better favorite film!!!) Knives Out. Topics discussed include the film as a commentary on sequels, the mystery genre versus true crime stories, and how much their perceptions of the film changed—for the better—when they watched it a second time.
Special episodes are only available to Patreon supporters. Pledge $3 a month (or more!) to listen or read a full transcript. 🔎
Would you be open to reading The Host? It's honestly pretty interesting, and I'd love to hear your take on a podcast.
I swear I didn't realize how popular the host was until we started doing this podcast??? we've discussed potentially doing a stand-alone episode about this so never say never! but nothing is in the works right now my dear friend—shannon
yep, we've talked about potentially doing a one-off (or two-off, or something) special episode about The Host! I (G) (animorphs stan who will read anything about a good brain slug) kind of love it, or at least certain aspects of it. and shannon read it fairly recently so she probably has fresh Takes. we'll definitely think about it! —g
Cutie pie is a tragedy. S1 started to be hella boring in the last episodes and these 2 are boring also in this special. Luckily there are the side couples.
major props to christopher eccleston for acting out the lines "i couldn't save your world. i couldn't save any of them" with such subtle and layered emotions while also struggling against mannequin people trying to throw him into a pit of lava (he is very clearly standing on a styrofoam pad lit by LED lights)
Playing through the special episodes for PLvsPW and this is episode 2. I didn't realize that Inspector Chelmey considered himself as Professor Layton's rival until he brought this up. I understand where Inspector Chelmey is coming from but I'm with the professor on this one. Professor Layton's rivals are Don Paolo and Descole as they rival him in his intelligence. Not that Chelmey isn't smart himself but he never came off as a potential rival during the time he was in the original trilogy.
Ruby’s band in the new dw special just casually having a Transfemme lead singer just mmmm….
Yes!
Like sure she’s only a bit part and that kinda sucks but the fact she’s just there casually because RTD has the balls to depict a world where trans people can just exist casually, just…
Yes, yes, yes. More please. It means so much to just SEE people like myself on my favourite show you have no idea. I hope she becomes a regular supporting character.
Hi Fansplaining! I’ve been a patron for a long time, but I’ve never listened to as many special episodes as I wanted to because listening to them on Patreon.com was such a pain. I am kind of embarrassed to report that just yesterday I discovered I could set up the RSS feed for these episodes on my podcast app, and now I am enjoying the Glass Onion episode without having to worry about a website reloading and losing my place! Anyway, just writing in in case there are other patrons who are unaware that this knowledge could be shared with, or in case this could be a helpful plug for your Patreon.
Thank you again, queersintherain!!
(We read this ask on today's episode—"Ask Fansplaining Anything: Part 15"—but we wanted to publish it here as well.)
If you're a current patron, you can absolutely listen to our 28 special episodes via RSS feed. And if you're not a patron yet...28 special episodes await! Just $3/month! With more to come soon! That's https://patreon.com/fansplaining 🥰
*average person gets thrown through 3 windows a year* factoid is actually just a statistical error. average person gets thrown through 0 windows per year. Trafalgar Law, who has been experiencing defenestration since he was 10 years old, is an outlier and should not have been counted
